The Royal Cult

Demons believe the source of their power to be from the Three-Legged Crow, so they worship It, though not all demons are religious devoted to the demonic bird.

However, the Three-Legged Crow’s not the only god the demons serve. Demon Kings who have passed away and have been deified are also worshipped by their successors and the nobles.

Deified Demon Kings are considered to have reach the pinnacle of “demonic virtues” and are role models for their successors.

Below is the process of the deification of a deceased Demon King. Take notice that that the process only begins after the said Demon King has passed away, so that during the evaluation, the demons can assured of his “demonic virtues”. As people would mock the deification if a Demon King is deified during his life but then he fails to live up to his divinity or messes up badly.

After a Demon King passes away, the Royal Butler will be tasked with gathering all the documents, works, words & deeds of the late King and submit them all to the House of Lords.

Once the House of Lords receive all the documents, works, words & deeds related to the late King, the Secretary of the House of Lords will write a summary of the late King’s reign, based on all the submitted papers.

At the funeral, the summary will be read out-loud for all to hear. After which, the summary will be put inside the coffin, to be buried with the late King.

After the funeral, the House of Lords will scrutinize every bit of documents related to the late King, to see if he deserves to be deified. This step is very important and the House of Lords doesn’t want any mistake to be made as everyone’s reputation will be damage if they don’t do this step carefully.

Aside from the grieving Royal Family, those who are close with the late King, including the Avatars and the Royal Butler, will be brought to the House of Lords to testify the late King’s virtue. All secrets have to be made known to the august House of Lords.

After collecting the testimonies, the House of Lords will enter debate session.

After the debate session, the House of Lords will vote on the deification case. The case is passed if it is supported by two-thirds of the House of Lords. If necessary, the House of Lords can repeat step 6 & 7, but only 3 debate sessions and 3 voting sessions maximum allowed.

If the case is passed, the House of Lords will submit it to the new King. The case can’t go forward without the new King’s approval.

If the new King approves the deification case, it’s transferred to the ministers of the Three-Legged Crow God, who will choose the day to officially proclaim the late King a god to all demons.

My name is Suli.

It's not my actual name, but it's the name I'm comfortable with to put on the internet. So you can just call me Suli on this blog, even if you do actually know me ;)

I do absolutely love Avatar and I love the connection it has, but it's not based off of it.

Where am I from?

I'm from the Netherlands. I was born and raised Dutch and I'm proud of it! (gekoloniseerd)

So, since I'm Dutch, I feel like I have to mention that the Dutch people seem to be known for their fondness of swearing and cursing.

And I do feel like I also have to mention that I'm no exception.

What languages do I speak?

My first language is Dutch! I'm completely fluent and it's the language I speak on a daily basis.

My second language is English. I was not raised speaking English and I started taking English classes in school when I was about 12 years old. I consider myself pretty fluent in the language, but naturally I still make some mistakes as it is not my first language.

And after that I've had five years of German classes when I was in school, but I can't say I speak the language very well. I do understand it moderately though, but just don't ask me to translate it haha.

What are my pronouns/preferences?

I was born as a female and I identify as a female, so my pronouns are she/her.

I'm straight, and not part of the LGBTQ+ community, but I love and support everyone to be who they are and I will not accept any form of racism or discrimination on my blog! People who comment negatively on those matters will be reported and blocked immediately. No hate on this blog, just love!

What type of content can be expected?

On this blog I will post just random stuff related to the fandoms I'm in.

I actually love to write and I've been writing stories since I was 10 years old, but I've never actually published them anywhere. And if I do write, it will only be in Dutch. I master the English language very well, but not well enough to actually write stories I will be satisfied with.

So, if people would like me to write anything for the things I listed above, I will surely try, but it has to be okay if it's only written in Dutch :)

On Deity and Divinity

To borrow a question my parents thought I might have the capacity to answer by age 5: What is God?

If we are to imagine an incomprehensible life force, let us suppose there are two essential types: institutional, from the top down; and endemic, from the ground up. For the sake of convenience, here I will reduce the entire spectrum, from saintly to supernatural, to "gods."

The institutional gods reign over particular regions by supernatural might and by their dynastic virility; following groups like the Dorians and Ionians to settle/dominate someone else's world, as the situation presents. These deities, having slash-and-burned their way across the Untamed Wild, then set about reproducing their own reality on top of the ashes.

The endemic gods are, by their nature, less easily defined. When the Romans brought interpretatio romano to Britannia, they left behind scores of altars to various genii loci, local gods. Many represented natural phenomena -- Coventina, clean water springing from the soil; Grannos and Sulis, the hot springs -- but the most common veneration was to the spirit of the crossroads, to language and its oaths. Every local Mercury was not not-warlike, but had the capacity to start with an olive branch* before resorting to the club.

I must pause here to trouble my easy distinction between what is institutional and endemic. In the face of all of this, I cannot say that I believe in any of these deities; but neither can I allow myself the easy out of repudiating them. For those who believe, they exist as the pinnacle of culture: the divinity, for what can be changed; the deity, for that which can only be accepted.

But even while we accept The Deity and His Power -- render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's -- may we yet retain our divinity under duress.

Unsurprisingly I was listening to a Tokusatsu-themed Kaito song. It's a goofy parody of a Super Sentai/Power Rangers opening theme, basically "what if the power rangers only used cheap tactics to win." Also it has Miku :3!

Currently Watching: One Piece

I mean we all know how One Piece is, right? Can't worry about what to watch with 900 episodes of One Piece on my to-do list! It's really good, too, good enough that I'd actually recommend that you watch it despite the unreasonable number of episodes. Also it fills the void Fairy Tail left in my heart as a teenagerc while also being at least a dozen times better than Fairy Tail.

Currently Reading: The Rise of Kyoshi

I mean I'm an ATLA fan so I figured I'd read this before the new movies roll out. It's shockingly gritty compared to what you'd be used to if you only watched ATLA, and I've been pleasantly surprised to enjoy characters other than just Kyoshi herself. Check these out if you liked Avatar: The Last Airbender!

Current Obsession: (Somewhat Regrettably) WWE

*Sigh* I blame Super Eyepatch Wolf's recent video about Roman Reigns (seriously watch it, you will not regret it) for getting me invested in the absolutely insane and just flat-out goofy performance art that is pro wrestling. Learning about the intricacies of pro wrestling as a performance art has given me a really unique appreciation for it, and I'm also a huge fan of seeing muscular women, just generally (ily Rhea Ripley 💖💖💖). I really love finding new ways to appreciate different forms of art and there's no art quite like pro wrestling, goofy as it may be~

Last song listened to: Be my Everything (English Version). It’s a solo song from one of the members of a K-pop group named Purple Kiss, and it’s fantastic! Great vocals, even though I do prefer the other song from the single more.

Currently Watching: Nashville (2013) and the new season of The Dragon Prince. I only have one episode of Nashville left and it’s the finale, so that’s pretty sad. I’m three episodes into season 5 of Dragon Prince and really liking it! I’m glad the animation has improved since the beginning.

Currently Reading: Nothing now. I just finished Dear Mothman by Robin Gow and loved it though! It is written for young teens, but it’s a really great queer narrative and is written through some very nice free verse poetry.

Current Obession: It’s mainly Skyrim (liked it so much I made a Tumblr blog for it, after all), but since I talk a lot about that, I’ll also mention Hollow Knight. I’m playing it right now and it’s very hard, but very good! I like how little handholding it does.

I don’t think The Rock needs any introduction. Realistically, I don’t believe the Netflix series could afford to have him, even as a cameo, but it’d be crazy not to include him in any dream cast. Maybe hire his “cousin”, Joe Anoa’i (Roman Reigns), instead?

The story takes place after Lesson 20.

Synopsis

You returned to the Human Realm after 1-year of exchange program in the Devildom. There, you received a summon from the Pope.

PART I

“Electricity bill, water bill, ads, ads, ads, Bitcoin ads…”

As you skimmed through all the things in your mail box, you noticed a strange envelope with red sealing wax. On the red sealing wax, you could see an old man fishing, the old man had a hallow on the top of his head. On top of the image, engraved ”GREGORIVS.XVII. PONT. MAX”.

As a devout Catholic, you knew the old man fishing featured on the wax. He’s St. Peter, who was a fisherman by trade, and also the first Pope of the Catholic Church. The image of St. Peter the Fisherman is the symbol used exclusively by the Pope.

With trembling hands, partly from excitement partly from fear, you opened the envelope. Right at the top of the letter, you saw the coat of arms of the reigning Pope, Gregory XVII. On the top half, there were two Hearts - the Hearts of Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary on blue background. On the bottom half, there was a small coat of arms. A mural crown with 8 towers for the crest, an azure cross in silver field for the blazon, a rampant lion on the right side of the viewer, and a bull on the left side. It’s the coat of arms of Marseille, where Pope Gregory XVII used to be Bishop and his hometown before he was elected Pope.

You read the letter.

Dear MC,

The Church doesn’t approve the exchange program with the Devildom in which you took part for the last year. Upon learning that you are a Catholic, His Holiness, Pope Gregory the Seventeenth, wishes to meet you at the Vatican.

Please answer the summon of the Holy Father as soon as possible.

“I’m doomed.” You put the letter down as you looked at your pact mark with Lucifer on your right hand.

On one hand, you just wanted to run away, maybe to Devildom, the Demon Brothers and Diavolo would surely let you stay. But on the other hand, what would happen if you ran away. Maybe the Pope would take this as an act of guilty conscience and disobedience, he would issue disciplinary actions, including excommunication. No, you can’t stand that, you love the Faith, the Church, you consider the Pope as your spiritual father, like any good Catholic would. In the end, you wrote a reply back to the Cardinals and went to the post office to have it sent.

More than a week later, you received a reply saying ”The Holy Father will be waiting for you.” along with entry permits to Vatican and Italy. The Holy See would also pay for all your travel expenses. At least, your wallet wouldn’t be thinner from expensive plane tickets.

Meanwhile, in the Devildom,

Asmodeus, the Avatar of Lust, was partying hard at The Fall, one of Devildom’s most renown clubs.

“Hey, did you hear the news?” a demon of Envy whispered to his friend, a demon of Lust.

“What news?”

“Geez, you’re always so slow. Apparently, the Avatars’ pet was summoned by that geezer in Rome.”

“They’re gonna run away?”

“No, of course not. As a Catholic, they’re not gonna run away. I heard they already boarded a plane to Italy, obedience and such.”

“Do you guys have any interesting thing to tell me?”

“Gaah!!! Lord Asmodeus!!!”

“Sorry for making you startled with my beauty. Now tell me what you heard about MC.”

i think tiber septim is the only ‘contemporary’ emperor who was considered deified (especially to That extent) but this is an older practice in imperial cyrodiil historically used to legitimize various dynasties, with most historical deified emperors being officially re-contextualized as saints (though they have numerous cults, which are considered varying degrees of heretical and acceptable)

the septim family is partly deified (which is technically what ‘imperial cult’ refers to) but not like, the irl counterpart of the roman imperial cult where it got to the point that the entire royal family and their dog was deified upon death. theyre considered by the imperial cult to be sort of ‘demigods’ by virtue of their deified ‘ancestor’ talos and by their supposed dragonborn/dragonblood status, but any state sanctioned worship of the royal family is considered an extension of talos and/or akatosh worship.

i imagine uriel septim vii and martin septim were both attemptedly canonized as saints, both of which may have been controversial moves due to uriel septims unpopularity in his late reign, and the dubiousness of martin septim’s Existence (much less his connection to the appearance of an avatar of akatosh). so both of these saints end up quickly folded into pre-existing talos, akatosh, sometimes alessia worship (especially under the mede dynasty) and further rendered obscure with the decline and banning of talos worship.
