Dr. Jumble Cube Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Doohickey
Tumblr media Tumblr media
original poll for context, if you're lost
this is the Jumble Cube, available on the Jumble Dream website. i'd just like to take a second and preface this post with a disclaimer; i was not paid to promote, endorse, or review this product. i did this entirely of my own accord because i thought it would be funny to have this fucking thing in my house. with that out of the way, here we go.
so! here's this fucking thing. when i saw that poll by @superbellsubways yesterday i knew i had to take one for the autistic team and investigate this fucking thing. how could it not tempt me? the obnoxious fidget spinner, the incessant promotion of this Thing towards Autism Moms, the fact that it's held together by roughly 17 screws and a prayer. when i first saw it on my screen, i recoiled- that's how i knew it was true love. i was immediately swept up in the sort of fervor only acquired by lovecraft protagonists and suburban mothers on the edge of a divorce on black friday. i needed it. so i got it. and a day later, it's in my arms!
guys. this thing is fucking Massive. it is unreasonably big. i took a ruler to it- from the hourglass spinner to the end of the doorstop, it's 6.5 inches (17 centimeters). for anyone wondering, my fidget cube is roughly 1.5 inches (~4 centimeters).
the wooden cube itself already huge at 2.25 inches (6 centimeters), but every single goddamn attachment screwed and/or glued on makes it INCREDIBLY unwieldy. if you wanted to put this fucker in a box it would take up 210 cubic inches of space (3441 CUBIC CENTIMETERS....). not even remotely practical for subtle stimming in public if you're anything above 5 years old/want to hold other shit in your bag.
ok let's get into the actual attachments now
side 1: hourglass spinner
Tumblr media
at first i thought this was going to be the most nothingburger side until i discovered the meta of having the spinner on the ground and using the doorstop to spin around the whole cube. which does elevate it in my tierlist. it's also the side that protrudes the least, allowing this unfortunate contraption at least one side to rest on. however the color scheme of this side does remind me of an egg in a sausage mcmuffin- pathetic sickly yellow contrasted with an off-white that looks like it belongs on a 20-year-old urinal. it's hard to move all the beads into one side or another because of the way the hourglass is cut out of the wood. the sound is great though. better than i expected!
side 2: yellow nut-&-bolt
Tumblr media
big fan of this guy. the nut IS removable from the bolt, but it's very large and such a florescent yellow-orange that you'd have difficulty actually losing it. plus, if you put a little effort in, you can "lock" the nut at the base of the bolt. the threading is surprisingly clean, and you can spin the nut up and down the bolt in a satisfying way. this side DOES protrude a lot but it's far from the worst offender in that category. pleasantly surprised by this one.
side 3: wheel and light switch
Tumblr media
this side is pretty good! it doesn't protrude outward like the other sides do (which is very nice). i like this one a lot.
the wheel is reminiscent of rollers on a file cabinet or wheels on the bottom of a desk. i love those rollers and i've always wanted to mess with them after finishing assembling the furniture they belong to. so i feel weirdly validated by this part. you can grab the cube by the water tap and roll it on the desk with the wheel !!! very fun. however the wheel itself doesn't spin for very long. if you're looking for something that spins for a while, try the fidget spinner or the hourglass.
the light switch is VERY satisfying. a nice amount of pressure is needed to push it down, and it makes a very satisfying click when pushed. my only nitpick is that i wish the actual button was bigger, but that's honestly a minor complaint.
side 4: lock and key(s)
Tumblr media
this side was one my friends and i discussed while i was waiting for the cube to arrive. one of them was concerned that this side would be Obnoxiously loud and that the keys (connected to the cube by a chain and yet another screw) would get in the way of other activities. the solution i had come up with was moving the keys (or at least one of them) to my actual keyring and using that to fidget. that's what i did the second this thing arrived!
the key that's still on the cube itself is a lot quieter without its louder partner, and using my actual keys in conjunction with the cube to stim is very very fun. (side note- you can also stim by pushing the key through the keyring to your heart's content.) turning the key makes a good click and extends a little bar, and turning it back makes the same click and retracts it. it's a good 180 degree turn, which is fun short-term but (if you're using the key chained to the cube) is a good way to give yourself carpal tunnel. use restraint!
side 5: water tap
Tumblr media
sadly i was disappointed by this side. this tap lacks any of the actual weight or force needed to turn a water tap (the best part of turning one). it seems to be made out of plastic instead of metal (which, like, fair. there's already a lot of metal on this). the unit as a whole turns, instead of just the head. sometimes when you're turning the tap it resists against the wood in a manner reminiscent of nails on a chalkboard or scraping your fork against a nice plate. which is a huge sensory no-no for a lot of autistics i know. the tap is at least good to use as a grip for when you're stimming with other sides.
side 6: fidget-spinner-door-stop-thing
Tumblr media
this fucking monstrosity is the reason i bought this thing. the extremely unorthodox combination of fidget spinner and DOORSTOP was very compelling to me.
the doorstop did not arrive attached to the cube, so i had to screw it on myself. which wasn't that bad. you could use that as a way to stim if you really wanted to.
as mentioned earlier, laying the cube on its hourglass side and using the doorstop to spin the cube is extremely top-tier. if you get it up to a high enough speed and then stop it the fidget spinner will keep spinning.
the fidget spinner is remarkably well-balanced despite my fears to the contrary. fair word of warning- if you're holding the cube in one hand and then spinning the spinner, you can feel the vibrations of the spin throughout the entire cube. there is not a single portion immune to that sensation (but it's more muted in certain segments, like the water tap). if you like that- yay! if you don't- avoid spinning it.
the doorstop is very springy and allows me to play with it without getting yelled out by my parents. if you put the stopper part on your palm and circle it around like it's a joystick it is a very good sensation. this is fulfilling a childhood dream for me. the force behind the doorstop shakes the ENTIRE cube. do with this what you will.
this is, of course, the most protruding side. as fun as this side is, i cannot let that go unmentioned. this thing is egregiously tall. fun. but tall.
overall opinion
i was honestly surprised that this thing is as good as it is. the unusual combination of items put me off at first, but the items themselves as amazing choices for a stim toy. there's a lot of things on here that i didn't recognize as childhood stims until i got this. while some of them i'd prefer as their own standalone keychain or something (lock and key, light switch), having them all in one for like $17 is a pretty sweet deal.
i like this. a lot. it's very fun. it's a monstrosity. i think i will be annoying my friends with it over voice calls. but, like, don't buy this expecting a new every-day carry. this is its own beast.
final tierlist
Tumblr media
if you (for whatever reason) want to check this out for yourself, here's the tier list i made so you can rank everything how you'd like to.
thank you for reading!

Oh! I actually have pictures of some cause I posted about them a while ago, let me find them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These aren't all of my favorites, and I've got at least one that I want to get, but it's several that have stuck around for me.
The zebra one is a marble maze, except it's small enough to fit comfortably in one hand and I can just rotate the marble around and around and around in it. For me that sort of repetitive circular movement is calming. I made this one myself so if you can't sew idk where you could get one.
The blue thing is an Ono roller. Again I enjoy the repetitive motion, and it rolls so nice and smoothly. It's also a nice solid weight, but that makes it a bit trickier to carry in my pocket. It's metal and seems to stay cool to the touch very well, which I like. It's a little large for my hands so I'm considering getting a smaller version that they have.
The last one is just an elastic beaded bracelet. I like the beads for rolling back and forth between my fingers. It's easy to keep around because I just wear it and I get a lot fewer curious looks when I fidget with it at work because it's more normalized to fidget with jewelry. I also like to kind of fold it in half and play with the elastic-ness of it.
Tumblr media
I have a small round pop it like this that has been my most common fidget lately. I like to set it down and like repetitively push the bubbles down in a pattern. I don't know why it feels good, but it does. I actually don't like that it makes noise but it's mostly quiet enough that it's not a problem. If I need it to be silent I will sometimes hold it and pop a single bubble back and forth while holding it between two fingers so I get the popping feeling without the sound
Tumblr media
I also have a couple basic fidget spinners that I go back to a lot. I do a number of different things with these depending on my mood. I enjoy holding it in the middle with my fingertips and then setting it spinning because I like the feel of the momentum and the sensation if I wiggle it while it's spinning. Sometimes I'll hold at the end of two of the arms (there's rotating bits there too) and just sort of rotate it back and forth. Sometimes I'll set it down and just spin it because I enjoy the noise and watching it spin is a good visual stim for me.
I didn't think I'd like fidget spinners but someone left one at my job one time and I got delayed while putting it in the lost and found and realized I was fidgeting with it a bunch and it felt nice, so if you haven't tried a particular fidget just because it's currently a popular "toy*, I do suggest giving it a try just to see.
Tumblr media
I almost forgot one of my absolute favorites! I couldn't find a picture of them online and they're at work right now, but these tactile shells are what led me to find them. It's a pair of small plastic balls that are covered in little spikes, kinda like the green or the purple sensory shells in the pic. There's something about the sensation being sharp but not so sharp that it actually cuts that I really like. Sometimes it's the only thing that really feels like it cuts through my brain fog, and other times it feels kinda like it's giving the tension a physical channel to escape through.*Highly* recommend hard spiky plastic (but not sharp enough to cut! We're going for stims and good sensory, not harm).
can y’all show me your favorite sensory/fidget toys?? they can be anything
it would be great too if y’all could say what you like about them too/what they help you with sensory wise, I want to buy some sensory/fidget toys I’ll actually use/like

Pet Paradise Beaded Animals - Part One
Previous Post: Pet Paradise Bead Kit
I’ve made the first five animals from the bead kit, and I thought I’d take the time to talk about the making of each. I noticed that the instructions don’t say how much cord to use per animal, so I’ve mentioned that below.
I used the beads that came with kit but my own cord, as the holes in these beads are wider than most pony beads, and the box image shows a thicker cord in use, not the narrow rattail that came with the kit. I thought the beads would sit better on thicker cord. The beads are not quite uniform, so they don’t always fit flush in each row, giving the creatures a clumsy look. I plan to remake some of these with my own beads for this reason.
The instructions do not say how to properly tie off the animals when finished. With the gecko, you can knot at the base of the tail, but for the other creatures, I learnt that you’re better off to take one end of the cord, thread it through the second row of beads from the bottom, and then take that end and the end from the bottom row and knot them together. Using a sewing needle makes it easier to run the cord through the second row of beads.
Gecko: 1 metre of cord works easily. This isn’t any different from the standard tutorial. My kit didn’t have the metallic green beads on the box front, so I used metallic gold. I hope I picked the right replacement colour, as my beads have two colours not shown on the box and are missing one.
Frog: I’d use no less than 1.25 metres of cord. I made this identically to the box image save for the last row, where I threaded the cord through all the beads instead of just some of them. I think this looks neater. The legs with one bead skipped are a little awkward, and I’m honestly not sure this is a necessary step. This isn’t too much different to the gecko in thread patterns. After the frog and gecko, there are eight green beads left over.
Penguin: 1 metre of cord works well. This is the easiest animal here, as you’re beading simple rows without additional limbs, so I’d recommend doing this one for the first non-pattern creature. I made no changes to the pattern.
Ladybird: 90 cm of cord is enough, as this is quite a small design. I had to change the pattern because the one on the box has rows that go from five beads to seven beads, and adding two extra beads per row made the beads bunch up horribly. (I’ve seen this on other patterns as well; I don’t like it.) I only go up or down one bead per new row on my version, which lessens the bunching and looks much nicer to me. Please note that this ladybird is much smaller than the pattern I linked on the first post.
Bunny: 1.25 metres of cord at minimum, but you may wish to go up to 1.5 if you want a lot of play in the cord for the final knot. I struggled to tie mine. My only change to the pattern was to swap a white bead for a pink bead for the feet, as the structure of the feet is almost identical to the ears, and I wanted them to look a little more distinct.
So far, I’ve had enough beads in all colours save for the one missing colour. The penguin was easiest to make, but I like the frog the best. The wider animals are really good for rolling flat between palms.
(If proper tutorials for any animal here are wanted, let me know and I can add it to the eventual to do list.)

The first photo shows a frog made from green and yellow pony beads strung on green cord, a bunny made from pink and white pony beads strung on pink cord, a penguin made from white and black pony beads strung on black cord, a gecko made from green and gold and yellow beads strung on rainbow cord, and a red and black ladybird/bug strung on red cord. Second photo is a close-up shot of the pink and white bead rabbit with the ends untied, showing one loose cord end threaded through a silver needle and threaded back through the second last of beads.]

💡: What are your favorite stims?
Okay I have too many stim toys to list them all here but generally I love ones that are kinda small and easy to just fidget with in one hand, like those infinity rings or those roller beads fidgets. I also love playing with slime but I'm super picky about the texture. Flapping and shaking my hands, snapping my fingers, rocking, bouncing my leg are also all body stims I do without even noticing half the time. Also I love cutting up certain fruits and vegetables (strawberries, dragonfruit, zucchini are so good).
When it comes to gifs/videos specifically, my favourite visual stims are slimes (especially glittery ones), food/cooking, and piping/cake decorating. My favourite video/audio stims are cutting/crushing anything that sounds crunchy (clay cracking and soap crushing is really good).

Bon Voyage ✈️ Disneyland with Jeon Jungkook
Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff with Jungkook x Reader (Y/N)
Warnings: Rollercoasters and cute stuff. Probably the fluffiest thing I’ve written to date.
Summary: You’re both at Disneyland Paris for fun and frolics.
Reference: There for you by Martin Garrix and Troye Sivan
Word count: 389 words
Request: A special request for Disneyland JK with Mickey Mouse ears (of course he would) from @Ilikealotofmusic - Enjoy
A/N: This is probably the Fluffiest thing I’ve ever written. I’m slightly disgusted with myself but you know, there’s no way in hell this didn’t deserve to be fluffy.
- - -
It’s been a long day already and it’s not even time for the parade yet. Queuing to get into the park super early and ever since running through fake cobbled streets to get to rides in time. Your veins are full of sugar, Disney songs and love as he grips your hand tight, your fingers interlinked as he’s pulling you through crowds of families between roller coasters. He glances back every so often to throw you the cheesiest grin. Jungkook’s fully in his element here, looking like he belongs amongst the Disney crew.
You’re running from Main Street USA towards Tomorrowland, heading straight for Space Mountain. Time is running out on your queue jump ticket so you’re darting and weaving, creating a path through the crowds as you arrive just in time to skip the hoards of people.
Water bottles in hand, you join your space in the shortened line, catching your breath. Gguk is laughing at you panting away, yet he’s out of breath himself. A smirk spreading across his face as he pours water down his throat quenching his thirst. Beads of sweat rolling down the curves on his neck, tastefully. You fluster but luckily your rosy cheeks hide your blush. ‘Cut it out. Save that for later,’ you tell yourself, ‘This is a family place’.
As your turn arrives, you sit in your seat fidgeting to get comfortable as the harnesses drop. You’re a little nervous as the staff do their checks before the ride sets off. The rocket-shaped car turns the corner, the track inclining in what looks like the inside of a canon, glimpses of the park to your left and right. The ride’s holding you in suspense before the g-force kicks in. Time seems to standstill. Like it’s taking forever for the ride to ‘take off’. You close your eyes, your nerves getting the best of you. You hold the handles with a white-knuckled grip.
In the anticipation, you feel fingers intertwining with yours. Gguk knows you love coasters, but it’s the suspense that sets your nerves on edge. You open your eyes, looking right at him. Mickey Mouse ears and all, his grin so big that he can barely see. You burst into laughter at the sight before you just as the ride releases, sending you both screaming around the track.
Like what you’re reading? Head over to the Bon Voyage Masterlist.

Pet Paradise Bead Kit - Chemist Warehouse, $6.50 AUD.
No online listing is available.
This is currently on half-price sale; the full price is $12.99 AUD. If you’re after a kit to get you started on making animal-themed bead fidgets, I think this is a pretty decent way to begin--with one big proviso.
If you buy this, don’t throw out the box. Or do what I did, which was to cut off the front panel (easier to store) and then recycle the rest. Don’t throw out the box, because if you do, you won’t be able to make the animal fidgets.
Despite the back of the box saying “easy to follow instructions”, the instruction sheet only tells you how to thread a single row of beads. If you’ve made any of these before, it’s not so difficult to look at the images on the box and copy them, but if you haven’t, you’d be lost. If you do what I tend to do and open the kit, recycle the box and then go to make the bead fidgets some time later, you’d be beyond lost with no image references. The instructions aren’t easy to follow and there are no real, specific instructions for copying the animals on the front, rendering them useless.
I’ve previously posted tutorials for the beaded gecko and the beaded ladybird. There are also more tutorials on this reblogged post, which have options for butterflies. I would make these first, using those tutorials, just to get the feel of how to thread the beads together. Only then would I copy the other animals from the front of the box.
I have to say that I do like that the kit comes with a storage box. Everything fits within it and it makes it easy to store the beads. It also comes with a good array of colours, and the metallic beads are gorgeous. For the sale price, it isn’t a bad way to start, since you get everything you need but scissors and instructions.
I plan on making the animals in this kit, so I can later discuss things like if they provided the right amount of beads and how easy the animals are to make from copying the box image.
I do like this kit, but I was expecting to get clear instructions on how to make the different animals--it’s most of the reason I bought it, as I have plenty of beads already. If you have no beading experience, it is still a good way to get started, but the lack of instructions provided is absurd.

Second photo shows a small five-space aqua storage case. A large section is filled with black beads and white and black rattail cord; three smaller sections are filled with red, blue, pink, orange, yellow, green, white, tan and brown beads; a fourth smaller section is filled with metallic beads, split rings and lanyard clasps.
