imagine the whiplash of seeing percy and annabeth being affectionate with each other around camp after watching them beat around the bush for four years. you see annabeth working on her blueprints or some shit. and percy walks over to her from the nearby field. you're fully prepared to see them skirt around their feelings like usual. and then get taken aback when annabeth flirts with him like she enjoys watching the tide in his eyes change color. so captivated by the sea she'd willingly drown in. and percy just smiles and blushes, and stares at her with love in his eyes, not even daring to hide it. he kisses her on the mouth afterward like it's as easy as breathing and says something about meeting by the lake after the campfire. and you just have to reevaluate your outlook on life over the next few weeks.

Watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron again as an adult is so great because not only do you appreciate the nostalgia and joy of it, the stunning 2D animation mixed with early 3D techonology and well written tight story with a main character that never speaks.

But also you appreciate that the plot relies on horses, despite not being typical talking horses in cartoons, being extremely intelligent to the point that they are aware of their captivity and exploitation. And it involves a hyper intelligent horse dismantling (or, at the very least significantly delaying) American colonialism's expansion into the west.

This horse also very likely killed many colonialists when they were either launched at high speeds from his back, kicked in the head or blown up in a train explosion.

Good for him.

i don't know WHAT to feel about some of the opinions on the chalice of the gods and the wrath of the triple goddess that i've seen on here, but personally, i absolutely LOVE our new books. why? because ANNABETH CHASE.

iin the earlier books, annabeth didn't have the chance to goof off at ALL. she was head counsellor of the athena cabin at TWELVE years old, she'd gone through unspeakable trauma, the people she loved were dying around her, and on top of all THAT, she was EXPECTED to hold herself together, because she was THE daughter of athena. the one that had to have all the plans.

which is why, in the chalice of the gods, i'm just so happy that she finally found her happy place.

because now, she has PLANS, this time not for others, but for HERSELF. plans for what SHE wants to do with HER future. she's at a great school doing something she's incredibly passionate about, she FINALLY has her boyfriend all to herself, and she's completely free of any worry that some sneaky goddess will swipe him away from her again, because the worst is OVER now.

now, we can watch annabeth blossom in the arms of FREEDOM from such responsibility, and SEE her goof around to her heart's content: dueting on 'shallow' with percy, hosting her very FIRST halloween party, sneaking into percy's bedroom just for the FUN of it, and just generally being the sweet goof she never got to be as a kid.

because annabeth chase is NOT boring and she is NOT a killjoy, and people need to STOP portraying her as such because she is the sweetest and most AMAZING character in the whole series.

Louis lives on a tiny island off the coast of England and runs a sailboat touring company. When Niall is sidelined for the summer after his knee surgery, Louis needs a temporary new partner. Who better to fill that role than Harry, recently returned to the island after five years away? Louis is pretty sure there are plenty of better options. They don't get along until they do. Harry is bent over a thick book when Louis crawls into the tent. “Some light reading before bed?” he asks, his voice light. Harry looks up. “Hmm? Oh, uh, I guess.” He holds up the book to show the cover: a guide to the plants and animals of the area. Louis owns several himself, but doesn’t recognize this one – perhaps a new edition? “Trying to learn something I don’t know?” he says. He means to say it teasingly, but it comes out almost sharp, and Harry stills. Guilt settles in Louis’ stomach, replacing the knot of insecurity and competitiveness that had sparked there moments earlier. “I don’t know about that,” Harry says. “I just find it interesting. And I figure this is a good time to learn as much as I can. I’ve learned a lot from you these past weeks.”
