“the Yang-Mills equations are nonlinear, therefore there is little hope of finding a closed-form solution.” Such a statement seems plausible. Linear differential equations with constant coefficients are the only differential equations for which a general solution is given in closed form. As often occurs in life, however, the exceptions to the rule are sometimes more interesting than the rules themselves. Let us digress from quantum physics to the motion of water, where British shipbuilder John Scott Russell noticed a solitary wave in a canal in August 1834. Neither Airy nor Stokes accepted this observation, yet in 1895 Korteweg and de Vries found an equation for a wave travelling in shallow water in one direction: u̇ + 6•u•uₓ + uₓₓₓ = 0. The KdV equation is easily solved by restricting from two independent space-time dimensions (x,t) to a single dimension x−λt — a frame matching the speed λ of a travelling wave.

Oscars tonight,
Tumblr media
but while the awards are preparing to be handed out, who are the red carpet fashion winners?
Spoiler Alert: Disappointingly, not Colman Domingo who has been killing all awards season. This is too moderate for me.
He still looks tremendous, though.

It's Eugene Lee Yang of NIMONA!

One Episode, Three Families - The Newsreader’s Greed And Fear (S02E03) 💖
.
.
From the most recent posts of mine, I think it’s been very obvious that I’ve been in a major Greed And Fear mood lately, and I have been more than honouring this latest fixation! Something that has really stood out to me is how this episode highlights three families with daughters, and how there is a stark contrast between them all. The families in question are the Carrolls, the Walters and the Kims, and they all feature at some point or another.
Tumblr media
The Carrolls are an exuberant, confident and very warm and loving household, in which Carla and Gerry are bringing up their little girl Alison. At the Carrolls, everyone is aware of who one another is, and they are so beautifully unconventional in many ways, but they are so embracing of each other’s quirks and there is so much open communication going on. You can just tell that they would be instilling this in Alison, and that she would always be loved and supported, free to be whoever she wants and needs to be!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Kims are more conventional, but incredibly hard working and they are a tight family unit. Soon-Hee and Byung Ho are very traditional parents who want their daughters Noelene and Jen to work hard and be good people. They sometimes worry about what their family back in Korea would think of the lives their daughters lead, but they ultimately want whatever makes their girls happy. They recognise that they won’t always understand their daughters’ modern lives, but they don’t stop them from achieving their dreams, and there will always be a meal and company for the girls to come home to.
Tumblr media
As for the Walters, Evelyn and Geoff are all for keeping up appearances, and want their family to seem like the model family for all to see. As we see with their daughter Kay and her character journey, they don’t realise how much pressure this strive for perfection and model image has put on all three of them, and they sadly don’t tend to communicate these frustrations until someone has hit crisis point, like Kay’s overdose, or Geoff’s heart attack. But no matter what happens, they ultimately stick together, because in the end, they are all that they have.
Which of the three families would you love to be a part of?

Movies watched in 2023
Nimona (2023, USA)
Directors: Nick Bruno & Troy Quane
Writers: Robert L. Baird & Lloyd Taylor (based on the graphic novel by ND Stevenson)
Mini-review:
This was so f**king good. What a groundbreaking, creative, original and incredibly fun movie. It's honestly mindblowing how much world building and character development the film manages to pack in just 90 minutes. And gosh, Nimona and Bal are (anti)heroes for the ages, there's no doubt about that. As for the animation, I have to say I've never seen a movie that looks quite like this. I love that most animation studios have begun to push their boundaries after the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, cause thanks to that we're getting absolutely stunning movies. Also, on top of the amazing animation and characters, the movie delivers a powerful message that feels painfully timely in this day and age. Seriously, I will never stop thanking Annapurna and Netflix for saving this from oblivion when Disney decided to cancel the project (most likely over its wonderful gay content). I really hope Nimona reaches the audience that needs it the most, and I'm so so so glad it finally made it to our screens, cause it's definitely worth the wait.

Okay so I was scouring jojowiki.com as usual and it says there that Diego's dinosaur form is based on an outdated record of a Utahraptor, and I don't know anything about them but I have a slight suspicion they were found in Utah.
I dunno just thought it was funny how to the point the name is. "it's a raptor in Utah, let's call it Utahraptor"
You blame Jim Kirkland over on his twitter for naming them that.
But yeah, "[Place name]saurus [place name]ensis" is a meme in the paleocommunity for a reason. (The word "ensis" meaning "from [place name]".) Image souce: Adam-Loves-Dinosaurs.
Tumblr media
I think Utahraptor is probably the most famous one. When another large dromeosaur was found in Dakota, DePalma felt it natural to smash the usual dromeosaur suffix of "raptor" with the prefix of [Place name] to name Dakotaraptor.
A dinosaur not many realise was intended to be named after a place is Mamenchisaurus. (Source: Cervente on Tumblr)
Tumblr media
It was discovered in (yes I'm using Wikipedia's text) Mǎmíngxī (马鸣溪 'horse-neighing brook') by Yang Zhongjian (楊鍾健), grandfather of Chinese Palaeontology. However, Yang wasn't from the area and mistook the intonation for the locale name. So he ended up calling it (馬門溪龍屬), from Mǎménxī (马门溪 'horse-gate brook').
That's probably the most fun one I can think of, but the others are like...
Koreacertops. Aegyptosaurus. Argentinosaurus. Patagotitan (Patagonia). Chilesaurus (Chile, but apparently it sounds like "dick" in latin countries?) Edmontosaurus (Canadian province, Edmonton). Albertosaurus (Candadian province Alberta, named after Princess Louise Carolina Alberta... named after Prince Albert). Gondwanasuchus (A crocodile actually, that was found in São Paulo, you know where, which USED to be part of the supercontinent Gondwana). Adamantisaurus is named from the same formation the croc was found, Adamantina.
Probably the most common kind of argument on the internet regarding dinosaurs at the moment is names and... IMO, it's not worth it unless it's REALLY bad or a bit mishandled, like Kuru kulla or Mamenchisaurus. But then, that's what the ICZN (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature) is usually for.
Anyway, Thanos is the worst dinosaur name in current use. Grapes, I need your Brazilian Portuguese expertise to write a strongly worded letter to Rafael Delcourt and Fabiano Vidoi Iori on good naming conventions. Obrigado Uva!
