Monty Python's Spamalot - Kennedy Center May 18, 2023 - Medium Observation Video | Matinée
Cast: James Monroe Iglehart (King Arthur), Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer (The Lady of the Lake), Matthew Saldivar (Patsy/Guard 2), Rob McClure (The Historian/Prince Herbert), Jimmy Smagula (Sir Bedevere/Dennis's Mother/Concorde), Alex Brightman (Sir Lancelot/The French Taunter/Knight of Ni/Tim the Enchanter), Nik Walker (Sir Galahad/The Black Knight/Prince Herbert's Father), Michael Urie (Sir Robin/Guard 1/Brother Maynard), Michael Fatica (Ensemble), Kaylee Olson (Ensemble), Ryan Kasprzak (Ensemble), Phillip Attmore (Ensemble), Daniel Beeman (Ensemble), Maria Briggs (Ensemble), Eloise Kropp (Ensemble), Daniel May (Ensemble), Shina Ann Morris (Ensemble), Kristin Piro (Ensemble)
Notes: Nice video of this hilarious show. Filmed from the orchestra. Lots of wideshots, which can lead to some washout at times. Beautiful zooms however on the cast (Alex Brightman fancam at times but it never takes away from the video!). Overall a great video of this Hilarious and perfect production.
NFT Date: December 1, 2023

Video is $20
Hadestown - First US National Tour May 20, 2023 - Medium Observation Video | Matinée
Cast: Colin LeMoine (u/s Orpheus), Hannah Whitley (Eurydice), Matthew Patrick Quinn (Hades), Nyla Watson (u/s Persephone), Nathan Lee Graham (Hermes), Belén Moyano (Fate 1), Cecilia Trippiedi (u/s Fate 2), Dominique Kempf (Fate 3), Racquel Williams (Worker), Jemal Lee Harris (Worker), KC Dela Cruz (s/w Worker), Ian Coulter-Buford (s/w Worker)
Notes: Fantastic video of Colin's Orpheus Debut! there is a small head obstruction in the far left bottom that obstructs nothing but Hermes legs at times. This was a very unique and stressful show for the cast as they were down a worker and had everyone in the company on in the show. the show started almost 25 minutes late as they had to rehearse and change choreo. The lights hit in wait for me and the choreo change is quite fun to see and it's unique!
NFT Date: December 1, 2023

Video is $20
Beetlejuice - First US National Tour February 19, 2023 - Medium Observation Video | Matinée
Cast: Justin Collette (Beetlejuice), Isabella Esler (Lydia Deetz), Britney Coleman (Barbara Maitland), Will Burton (Adam Maitland), Jesse Sharp (Charles Deetz), Kate Marilley (Delia Deetz), Danielle Marie Gonzalez (Miss Argentina), Abe Goldfarb (Otho), Brian Vaughn (Maxie Dean), Karmine Alers (Maxine Dean/Juno), Jackera Davis (Girl Scout), Matthew Michael Janisse (s/w Ensemble), Ryan Breslin (s/w Ensemble)
Notes: Big head obstruction on the left side of the screen where the crib, and Charles room is. it's worked around fine, but it's there and can be very distracting at times. besides that it's a great 4k video and it's a unique one, because they had asl and captions so the cast had to stick on script, which led to some fun choreo improv!

OC Most likely to tag!
I was tagged by @paeliae-occasionally @tildeathiwillwrite and @willtheweaver (thanks) and it looked fun, so I’m doing it. I’ll shall answer with the cast of the Grove of Kings and Killers.
Rules: answer with which of your OCs would be the most likely to do the statement, then give new statements for the next person.
Most likely to arrive ridiculously early
Francis? He cares about stuff like that. Other than that, Courlin, only if it’s for a Guild thing, because she absolutely does not care about anything outside of the Guild.
2. Most likely to be in a relationship for less than a week
Rosanna.
3. Most likely to secretly be really good at music, but just not tell anyone
I’m not sure, but Francis or Victor might. Some of Courlin’s siblings play musical instruments, but that’s not a secret. For how much I enjoy music, especially playing it, I don’t really have any characters that play music.
4. Most likely to embarrass their friends in public
Isla (Francis’ little sister). She loves to tell embarrassing stories about her friends to other friends and/or strangers.
5. Most likely to get drunk/hungover
Rosanna, especially after the thing with Edgar, even though getting drunk is what got her into that problem in the first place. She canonically does this quite often.
6. Most likely to get kicked out of summer camp
Either Courlin, for being generally unpleasant to the other kids/bringing a weapon(s), or Francis (shocking, I know), whose parents would be politically asked to take him home and have him tested, because he kept trying to organize the counselors’ stuff and didn’t want to do the potentially messy activities.
7. Most likely to Spontaneously adopt a child
Francis does this. Technically him and courlin since they end up living together, but he would be the one to bring the child home. Conversation would go like this:
Francis: Courlin, I’m home! And I have a surprise for you!
Courlin: Francis that is a literal child what is it doing in our house.
Francis: “She,” not “it”, actually. And she said she was an orphan and didn’t have parents or a home! And I thought, well, we have a home, and we could be her parents.
Courlin, in absolute disbelief: Francis, you can’t just bring a random child into our house! She could be lying and you’d be arrested for kidnapping. And we are not - not - becoming parents. I’m kicking her out. Take her back.
*kid ends up staying*
8. Most likely to have the loudest sneeze
Vincent. He’s like if you took a jock, made him nice to be around, and put him in fantasy, so it only makes sense he would sneeze loudly.
9. Most likely to be taken the least seriously
Probably Collete (Vincent’s sister), because she’s the youngest.
10. Most likely to faint
I think Rosanna because Courlin would never do something so weak and the boys just wouldn’t. Actually Francis probably would.
11. Most likely to enjoy art
Rosanna because of her upper class raising, but I could see some of the younger trio (Victor, Isla, and Collette), really getting into art.
12. Most likely to hate sports
Well, Courlin likes physical activity but dislikes sports, Rosanna likes sports but dislikes physical activity, and Francis dislikes them both.
Tagging: @theverumproject @litany-writes @lordfenric-writes @the-golden-comet and @elsie-writes have fun
Which of your characters is most likely to:
Get arrested on false charges
Get caught robbing a candy store
Sing in the shower

Two show Wednesday
"Two show Tuesday" sounds better, but the travel plans didn't work out that way.
I saw a play and a musical. Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors and Spamalot. Mild spoilers under the cut (mostly for Spamalot).
Dracula was in an off Broadway production in a theater of ~250 seats. It was nice to be in such an intimate theater; even though we were fourth row the stage was so much closer because there was no pit. I loved the set design! They did a lot with a little. The show was a tight 90 minutes so there was no lag time or dragging out the plot. Out of the five actors, four of them played multiple roles, sometimes in the same scene!
Because the show was short and a comedy, I'd call it Dracula-lite or Cliffs Notes Dracula lol. There were changes to some backstories and genderswapping, and Dracula had a change of heart at the end. There were puppets, a bat on a stick, lots of black lace well-cut men, and every actor did an absolutely bangup job with the comedy.
instagram
Before it was a stage show, it was a radio drama -- oops, podcast. The podcast starred a ton of stars: Christopher Sieber, John Stamos, Annaleigh Ashford, Laura Benanti, Alex Brightman, James Monroe Iglehart, Richard Kind, Rob McClure, Ashley Park, Alan Tudyk, Kathy Fitzgerald, Jeff Kready, and Orville Mendoza.
Listen to it here: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Broadway Podcast Network.
Second show was Spamalot! I was excited to see the differences between the Kennedy Center and Broadway.
The sets were slightly different: bigger, flashier, with an expensive looking forest. If you know, you know, lol. Some lines were changed but nothing drastic. God was Steve Martin, which is apropos. It was Leslie Kritzer's first night back after being sick; she made reference to that and her improv game is top notch.
Ethan Slater was great. The person I went with said they could hear his Spongebob voice when he sang as Prince Herbert but I didn't hear that (I laugh too hard at those scenes because they're my favorite). The person sitting to my other side had never seen the show or knew much about Monty Python (apparently) and he was INTO IT. I loved that he enjoyed it so much and some of it took him by surprise.
I really enjoyed Taran Killan. He made Sir Lancelot his own versus aping was Alex Brightman did and it worked. His French Taunter also got huge laughs because he dragged some of it out to an awkward amount of time but got the audience into it, which brought it back around to funny again. You know Justin Collette's outrageously long scream when Lydia heads into the Netherworld? Increase that time by about two minutes and that's what Killan did during one specific part of the scene. His costume for "His Name is Lancelot" was also different with many more bedazzled flames, lol
Good quick trip with good shows!
ps: We stopped at a random cafe before Spamalot and David Josefsburg was there! I tagged him on my IG and he dmed me back, lol

Join us as we celebrate the films that we love starting with Movies That Make You Want to HUG the Weekend! The List, in no particular order:
Tenet In Her Shoes John Wick Chicago It's Complicated Train to Busan Honorable Mention: Call Me By Your Name, I Am Legend
Tenet, 2020 From the opening scene, Tenet is an electrifying blend of heart-pounding action and mind-bending science fiction. Director Christopher Nolan delivers a captivating and visually stunning film. The Protagonist, portrayed by John David Washington, is a complex figure who moves through the film asking the same questions we have as viewers. The cast is fantastic, and there's this one unforgettable scene towards the end where The Protagonist has a revelatory, emotionally charged moment with Neil, Robert Pattinson's character, that leaves you heartbroken. I love this movie and will watch it again and again! -Alana
In Her Shoes, 2005 Often overlooked in the flurry of rom-coms released in the early aughts, director Curtis Hanson’s In Her Shoes exists as one of the most endearing films of the genre. In this 2005 gem, the film’s leads, Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz, and Shirley MacLaine, each deliver performances that are beautifully nuanced in telling the story of two estranged sisters finding their way back to each other, and themselves, after reconnecting with their estranged grandmother. Yes, this is a story about love - the unexpected ways we might find it, learning to permit ourselves to experience it, how it profoundly changes us, and what we are willing to do to rebuild it after it’s been broken - but this film is about so much more than that. In Her Shoes pulls the curtain back on how grief and mental illness change our relationships in ways that can reverberate through generations and how we might be able to pick up the pieces and build something beautiful for ourselves. This movie fundamentally changed me when I first watched it. I love watching movies exploring the depths of sisterhood, both loving and complicated, and this one just means so much to me. -Victoria John Wick, 2014 Keanu Reeves, a fan favorite, is dynamite in the John Wick series. The movies are action-packed, well-acted, and feature a simple yet intriguing storyline. Whenever I'm in the mood for an exciting film with snappy dialogue and an interesting cast, I always turn to a John Wick film. Among the series, the original John Wick is my go-to because what's more exhilarating than a grieving hitman seeking vengeance for his puppy and his car? I mean, if "you've effed with the wrong one" was a person, it'd be John Wick. I'm here for it! -Alana Chicago, 2002 Based on the 1926 play and 1975 stage musical of the same name, 2002’s Chicago is a soaring accomplishment from director Rob Marshall. This musical crime dramedy tells the spellbinding tale of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, both inmates on Murderess’ Row at Cook County Jail, as they chase celebrity and notoriety while awaiting trial. What is at once a tour-de-force of its own merit is also an enchanting homage to its source material, this film is one I simply cannot get enough of. The performances from Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, and Queen Latifah are electrifying and completely mesmerizing, each wholly embodying their lauded characters. Aside from the spectacular acting each delivers in this film, the musical performances are simply out of this world, with credit to the original music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb respectively, of course, but the production comes to life in a whole new way on the big screen. I watch this film a few times a year and highly recommend keeping the soundtrack in your rotation. -Victoria It’s Complicated, 2009 Oscar-nominated writer and director Nancy Meyers followed up a legendary four-film run (The Parent Trap, What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, and The Holiday) with 2009’s rom-com It’s Complicated. Starring Meryl Streep, with charming supporting performances from Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, this film follows a 10-years divorced baker as she navigates life as an empty-nester and discovers what might be next for her - which appears to include an affair with her now-married ex-husband (Baldwin) and a blossoming romance with the architect remodeling her home (Martin). This film explores the complications of divorce and moving on, while highlighting the joys and pits of rediscovering yourself, especially in your golden years. While this film was met with mixed reviews from critics, there is an undeniable sense of the Nancy Meyers charm that makes it the cozy and beloved film it is to me. Like any Meyers film, the set design is a character and story to discover in itself and perhaps one of my favorite elements of this movie - it’s an aesthetic feast! I have loved this movie for years and it’s one of those movies that pulls on your heartstrings, tickles your funny bone, and makes you feel hopeful for the future by the final scene. -Victoria
Train to Busan, 2016 Train to Busan is an electrifying and almost unmatched zombie film. Like any good movie, it has emotional depth. Your investment in the characters and their survival catapults you from scene to scene. Yeon Sang-ho’s directorial choices build the tension and suspense required for the film’s propulsion, but he also incorporates space for you to catch your breath. And with this plot, you'll need it. Gong Yoo and Ma Dong-seok are a great pair, using their ingenuity and sheer power to fight their way through zombie hoards. Whenever I'm looking for something exciting to watch, this film never fails to deliver. -Alana

Rammstein's Countdown to Halloween Honorable Mentions Part 2: The Spooking
These were some other worthy films that were watched over this spooky season that I highly recommend
Starting With....
The Exorcist (1973, dir. William Friedkin)
A truly haunting experience, filled with dream like images, cold exterior and intriguing story.
Candyman (1992, dir. Bernard Rose)
Another beautiful film filled with excellent shot and honestly probably one of the most romantic horror films I've ever seen.
The Boy (2016, dir. William Brent Bell)
An interesting spin on the haunted doll trope. One of my favourites.
Saw II (2005, dir. Darren Lynn Bousman)
An excellent fallow up to Saw (2004), compelling storyline complete with amazing talents of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith. Also, it wouldn't be right not to watch this year with the newest addition (Saw X) being released.
Freddy Vs. Jason (2003, dir. Ronny Yu)
Every Halloween season it is traditional for horror geeks to come together and witness the battle that changed the course of horrorstery (horror history).
Hereditary (2018, dir. Ari Aster)
Toni Collette was robbed. That's all I have to say.
The Hills Have Eyes (1977, dir. Wes Craven)
Always an adventure to watch this one and good Autumn camp out in the woods film to watch (maybe in a car RV or something) plus 70s Wes Craven movies rock.
Funny Games (1997, dir. Micheal Hankeke)
A great arthouse like horror that honestly spins the genre on its heads: I'm talking 4th wall breaks and much much more! It's like you're watching make your choice game play or T. V show very interesting movie, personally one of my favourites.
American Psycho (2000, dir. Marry Harron)
Another film that makes you think and an excellent social commentary on violence, conformity, corporate greed and more.
Night of the Living Dead (1968, dir. George A. Romero)
Another iconic film that is traditional to watch every horror season, so ahead of its time.
Well, I hope you guys enjoy this countdown as much I I did. I definitely plan on doing more things like this an honestly next Halloween might do anoth Rammstein's Countdown, try and switch it up. Not sure what I'll try to do exactly but I'll figure it out.
You guys might be seeing some more film blogs and essay postings soon...eyes peeled👀
Happy Halloween!

aemond seems to be the eldest son of the four hightowers kids always gives me a good laugh like... wtf was that casting choice? and I'm not criticizing ewan, he stands out from everyone there, I would easily believe that the fight for the throne is between him and rhaenyra 😂
I think it’s the same anon for some of the ask I got so I’ll answer them all together 😂😂
Aemond acts pretty childish so it’s easy for me to believe he’s younger than Aegon even if he’s taller. Aegon is also childish but in a different kind of way. I don’t know how to explain it but yeah he seems younger. The only problem with that casting is when you compare it to Harry Collett. But with Baela and Rhaena it’s believable Aemond’s a couple years older and a couple younger than Aegon.
Yes I see the Cregan vision!! He’s my old version of Robb lmfao im basically just gonna pretend like he’s grown up Robb since I was robbed of seeing any battle scenes in GOT
And yes Aegon will be rotten and gross looking from the burns the makeup is gonna look crazy

What I like about it: The Amazon Prime series is a pretty solid adaptation of Naomi Alderman's book. As the series went on, I realize that I am also remembering the events of the book right before they play out--which, I have to say, added quite a bit of suspense during some episodes.
The casting directors, Carmen Cuba and Nina Gold, really nailed--well--the casting. Halle Bush was especially astounding as Allie Montgomery-Taylor. Although I think they dropped the Taylor for the series. Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary was also exceptional, as were Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana and Ana Ularu as Zoia.
Not to say the others weren't as good. But, in my opinion, these four really went above and beyond expectations. Especially for the characters they portrayed.
I also love Daniela Vega as Sister Maria. I don't remember her being a transwoman in the book. If she was, then I apologize to Naomi Alderman. If she wasn't, then I salute the team behind the show. This was a great addition to the narrative. And, for me, it strengthens Allie's relationship with Sister Maria.
And speaking of things that were not in the book; I liked that they made Mayor Cleary more than just a politician. Like, sure, she had daughters in the book. But making her still married and giving us time with her family allowed us to understand her better.
They really gave Toni Collette some good material.
I also really like that the guy being manipulated by UrbanDox is no longer Jocelyn's boyfriend like it was in the book. (Jocelyn is Mayor Cleary's daughter. Played by Auli'i Cravalho.)
What I didn't like: Dr. Rob Lopez. Especially after the fifth episode. It's like a switch was flipped and John Leguizamo was playing a different character from the one he was portraying in the first four episodes. And the thing is, you can see John Leguizamo struggling to understand why his character is suddenly so different from the one he was playing before.
They do bring him back to who he was by the finale. But, by then, his character has been assassinated.
I have issues with the pacing. Especially with the second, fourth, and fifth episode. It's like we're running through plot points that need to happen, but the timeline doesn't make sense. None of the storylines were connecting with each other. I had to take breaks from the show after those three episodes to reassess where the characters were in their lives, why they were acting the way they were acting--
I had to do a lot of connecting the dots and sweeping-under-the-rug just so I could continue with the show.
And now we come to my biggest gripe: the finale.
I hate the way they finale ended.
Specifically: I hate how they ended it for Mayor Cleary.
Allie and Roxy (Ria Zmitrowicz) got pretty clean arcs, I feel like. Tatiana and Zoia would've had clean arcs too, had Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh) not ended his storyline with theirs. And then there's Mayor Cleary.
I know what happens in the book. They could've picked a better stopping point for her since they were already changing stuff up for the show. Instead we get... what the show gave us.
It's a powerful scene, yes. It would have been more powerful had it happened at the end of episode eight. They could've moved some of her plot threads up. There was one episode where we didn't see her at all but the next time she showed up, it didn't feel like any time has passed since her last appearance. And so we end her story with a scene where a major event happens, and it's left hanging.
And not in a cliffhanger kind of way.
Her story is like someone decided to bake a cake. They prepared the ingredients, pre-heated the oven, mixed the ingredients, poured the mix into a cake pan...and just chose never to put the pan inside the oven.
It is so frustrating.
And it messes up an otherwise great finale.
It messes up an otherwise amazing season.
