I just wanted to drop a line and say I read your tags on my post about Max and Billy and you're so correct. Like, so unbelievably correct. I personally never found Billy to be That Bad (I know he is) but it's like...he felt like a brother with issues. I have one of those!! Anyway, it's the same for me if people decide to write Neil as dying and Billy cries about it. He's going to have conflicted feelings about his abuser dying, that's part of being a person!!

YEAH. like. i'm here for the 'Neil should die so Billy can be happy' posts. but also, it's like? that shit is complicated! the thing with abuse is that Neil wasn't constantly a monster, he was Billy's dad too and that's why Billy cries when Neil leaves the room after their confrontation. There's still love there, as fucked up as that sounds, Neil's his dad, he's someone Billy was meant to have the utmost trust in, except Neil's abuse is a betrayal of that.

And there's also the kind of rage that leads Billy to beating another boy unconscious because he's thinking of Neil.

Neil is Billy's monster and his dad and that's complicated as shit. It makes how Billy died that much more heartbreaking - Billy finally stood up to the monster! He saved a helpless child! From THE MONSTER. He couldn't do it for himself, but he could for a little girl.

ANYWAYS, like, I think if Neil died, Billy's reaction would be all over the place. He'd cry. He'd be happy. He'd fucking beat the shit out of tree with his bare hands (i think of sup*rnatural where Dean's dad dies and Dean beats the shit out of his car and I could easily see Billy doing this to his camaro). He'd be a mess. It would not be a clean cut reaction. He'd be all over the goddamn place. He hates Neil, but he loves him and that's why he still has it in himself to be disappointed and cry and go on a rampage when Neil hurts him because when Neil isn't a monster, he's his dad, but being his dad doesn't erase when Neil's a monster, it just makes it that much worse.
