“Perirhanterion made of Parian marble. It consists of a small column surrounded by three female figure (korai) and it served as the stand of a basin for ritual purposes… First quarter of the 6th century BCE.”
The perirhanterion is a type of water basin and was used for ritual bathing and would be found in temples. This one is dedicated to Apollo.

Day three of @asksecularwitch's Dabbler's Week (https://www.tumblr.com/asksecularwitch/190317925794/a-dabblers-week) is Ritual Bathing. Finally, this January, after months of only baths, my partner and I had the money to replace our broken shower! This is good for this day of the week as, although i do love boiling myself like a lobster, a shower genuinely makes me feel cleaner. Plus, it felt more appropriate for drawing things out of me and leaving only silence.
I left my watch and phone out of the room – i normally listen to music while showering– and managed to get through the whole washing and getting out parts without speaking. I just used my normal washing gear, and had a very thorough wash, more thorough than usual. There was also some doing of things nine times, trying to suppress/ignore my brain's inbuilt radio, and imagining stirring up black gunk that represented all the energetic and psychological debris I'd picked that would also get washed down the drain. I then did a full body moisturise, while i normally only moisturise my face and hands. So, if nothing else, i am now very clean and soft.
I checked in with the pendulum afterwards about how effective it had been at the non-physical cleansing. Mid, apparently. I don't need to add or replace any soaps/shampoo, but apparently the body pouffe, while very suitable for physical cleaning, is worse than my hands for non-physical cleansing. I suspect i should try pouring water over myself or something, have more of some sort of ritualised aspects

Flintstones headcannon
Just picture it: Fred and Wilma Flintstone having occasion to spend time together at the hot spring pools just outside Bedrock for as much relaxation as some prehistoric sexual ritual. Actually performed inside the hot spring pool, perhaps as one with affirmation to primitive spirits of the life-force.

The Basics of Ritual Bathing
Topaz here, today I would love to talk about the sacred act of ritual bathing before a ritual or performing magick of some sort. Not everybody does it, but for me it is a sacred act of washing away the negativity and purifying yourself to stand in front of the God and Goddess clean and ready for magick and devotion. The act of sacred bathing puts you in a meditative state, aligns your chakras and…

Here’s a linocut print I made on the mikveh of Speyer.
The Mikveh of Speyer, built in 1128, is one of the oldest ritual baths in Europe, nestled within the medieval Jewish quarter of the city. This stunning stone structure featuring Romanesque architecture, preserved so well, offers a glimpse into the spiritual life of medieval Jews. with a 10-meter descent into the ground, was specifically intended to reach natural groundwater. Descending the ancient steps into the cool, still water, one can almost feel the history—the sacred rituals, the quiet prayers for purification. A visit here isn’t just a look at the past, it’s a journey into a tradition still very much alive today. A true treasure of Jewish heritage.

how birgs bathe? what are their hygienic tools (brushes, toothbrushes, skincare, sanitizer analogs, etc) like? do they have different washing systems, like how we have baths vs showers? is there any culture/religion specific forms of bathing/cleaning?
Birgs have a variety of options for hygiene, and almost none of them involve water! Sand or dust baths are the most common choice, some indoor baths even have heated floors to keep them warm on cold nights :) often fragrant herbs are mixed in with the sand to give the bather a pleasant aromas well as to help repel parasites.
Finer powders may be rubbed into the skin without the need of a whole-body bath; sometimes these powders are tinted to enhance color, or contain mica flakes to make the fur literally sparkle. Certain oils for skin and fur health are used by southern cultures, but the Twowi swear by dust alone.

Birgs use brushes of all sorts, dancing in size from handheld to big enough to run your whole body against. Body brushes are typically made of a wood or metal frame and set with stiff plastic fibers. These are especially popular during shedding time, as a birg’s hair is not separate from the cuticle and comes off along with the entire outer layer of skin. It gets itchy!
