I have yet to see anyone talk about the funniest possible outcome to this situation: Neither Prudence nor Philippa are pregnant and their symptoms are due to the weird potion they drank

I have always been a firm subscriber to the Penelope is the daughter that reminded Portia the most of her younger self and season 3 just confirmed it for me.

You see how society has jaded Portia. Someone who knew she wouldn’t be fortunate enough to marry for love, but could at least marry for security. But that security ended up being a gambling addict husband and she was not even allowed the partial security of being mother to the heir after three attempts of trying.

You then see the side effects of an emotionally unavailable mother and an absentee father directly in how the two sisters treat Penelope throughout S1, S2 , and the first part of S3. Thinking that their ill treatment of Penelope will gain them favor with Portia. Then subsequently the world being flipped upside down when Penelope becomes Portias favorite. Having Prudence trying to emulate Portia in every sense (her hair and gowns this season were so Portia coded) and her being the one really going through it was brilliant. Phillipas treatment of Penelope always felt very pack mentality to me, like she is off in her own little world but also she wasn’t going to be at the bottom of the pecking order.

To me this is why Portias reaction to the Lady Whistledown reveal was so satisfying. I know people wanted an angrier reaction from Portia, and I think there was a layer of that. But to me Portia’s shocked reaction makes more sense because I don’t think she’s ever viewed her treatmant of Penelope as wrong. She was simply trying to reel in Penelope’s expectations on life before life reeled them in on her, like what it did to Portia.
