Ringo wrote a song - part one (part two, part three)
While in Auckland, New Zealand, the Beatles talk to Bob Rogers about Ringo's songwriting, 25th June 1964
George: As far as Ringo and I are concerned, we'll leave the songwriting to... Paul: Oh! Excuse me... Ringo: Err, excuse me, Paul is going to sing the one I've written! Paul: Now, I can't… I can't quite remember it… Ringo: Well I'll— Paul: But even so— Ringo: Just for a plug, Paul Paul: We've just… Ringo has written one, called 'Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue'… a beautiful melody Ringo: No— Paul: A sincere thought Ringo: That’s it, yes Paul: 'Don't Pass Me By', it's called Ringo: Don't miss… that's what it's called George: But Elvis killed it Ringo: Elvis killed it… what? Bob: What? George: When he did it Bob: Elvis killed it? Ringo: No, he didn't Paul: No, but you really… this is Ringo's first venture into songwriting John: Are you going to sing it for us now, Ringo? Ringo: I'm not going to sing it, Paul's going to sing it Paul: {singing} Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue, yeah-yeah Ringo: It's got a blues feeling Paul: Blues feeling, you know. {singing} Now, darlin', I know John: I thought it was going to be Crumbly & Western? Ringo: It was going to be a Western— John: Crumbly & West… one of those Ringo: —but Paul gave it the nicest Blues feeling man, and it knocked me out John: It knocked you out, even though you wrote it? Ringo: In fact, I'm going to get a tape of him singing it for me very own Bob: Are the Beatles going to record it? Ringo: I don't know... Paul: You never know Ringo: I don't think so, actually — I keep trying to push it on them every time we make a record John: And we always try and do it, but unluckily, there's never quite enough time to fit Ringo's song on… because he never finishes it. Ringo: Is it finished? Paul: It's finished Ringo: We finished it

Caught up in the thrill of celebration [after the telegram from Capitol Records about 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' being number 1 in the US], the bandmates took turns climbing onto Mal's back, with the big man parading them around the room. "They went mad!" Mal recalled. "They always act this way when anything big happens - just a bunch of kids, jumping up and down with sheer delight. Paul climbed on my back demanding a piggyback. They felt that this was the biggest thing that could have happened. Gradually, they quieted down, ordered some more drinks and sat down to appreciate fully what had happened."
On Sunday, February 9, the day of the [Ed Sullivan Show] broadcast, the band received a congratulatory telegram from Elvis and Colonel Tom Parker. Paul couldn't help ribbing Mal, saying, "You're his biggest fan, Mal, how come you didn't get a good luck telegram?" As the roadie looked on, "the whole episode ended up with the boys fighting about who was going to keep it as a souvenir."
As usual, the boys enjoyed teasing their roadie - at one point, George placed plastic cups inside Mal's shirt pockets, which the Beatle then irreverently filled with milk. In a tenderhearted moment, John announced to Mal that "after sarnies [British slang for 'sandwiches'], you are my favorite animal."
As with the other members of the entourage, Mal felt Ringo's absence [during the beginning of the '64 world tour] acutely. During their flight to the Continent, the Beatles resorted to humor, their favorite balm, to make light of their predicament. "The boys really had fun at the pilot's expense, as he didn't know Ringo wasn't present and kept asking for his autograph," Mal remembered. "George jumped in at one point and said to Paul, 'Go on, Ringo - give him your autograph. Don't be mean!'"

my fave revolver song mixes and versions (note that I listen to everything in Mono on spotify because stereo hurts my brain):
Taxman - Take 11
It's pretty much the same in many regards as the the end product, save for the little "anybody got a bit of money" backing vocals which I adore they're just so playful and I love how they vary from the rest of the song in terms of speed.
2. Eleanor Rigby - Remastered 2009
The reason I didn't pick the 2022 mix is because I did not like how... empty it felt. I feel the instrument and vocal cleaning up and isolation really removed a lot of the rich atmosphere from the song, which is extremely obvious in a song with verse instrumentation at the beginning that is very calm. The vocals feel worlds apart from the instruments too, like they're not occupying the same space. The 2009 remaster therefore is automatically the better one to me.
3. I'm Only Sleeping - 2022 Mix
Just some solid bass right there, makes it sound more hearty. Because the instrumentation is more busy and varied you cannot hear any of the cons you hear on the 2022 Eleanor Rigby.
4. Here, There And Everywhere - 2022 Mix
Again, the cleaning up is handled better here too. I do feel it does slightly over-do it, but it doesn't render it unlistenable to me. I am as fine with it as the original.
5. Yellow Submarine - Songwriting Work Tape / Part 2
I will admit: I am not the worlds biggest yellow submarine fan in the first place. It's fun, but I won't put it on unless I'm listening to the album all the way through. But this working version just... clicks better with me I think. The tempo being faster and the rhythm being a bit different does it wonders to me as a song. My favourite thing about it though is the additional chorus vocals though. "We all live in a yellow submarine- Look out! yellow submarine- get down!" guys why the FUCK did you remove them??!! they're just so damn fun and whimsical :(( .
6. She Said She Said - 2022 Mix
oi loike ringoes drooms :) 😎☮🌺 you can hear um so clearly.
7. Good Day Sunshine - 2022 Mix
I don't have much to say on this mix because I do not like relistening to this song too much because it is my morning alarm and the intro always instils me a feeling of dread for the oncoming day therefore.
8. And Your Bird Can Sing - 2022 Mix
It's just so crisp. so bright. The guitars absolutely kill it, they sound like biting into a fresh cold juicy apple.
9. For No One - 2022 Mix
Idk if it's just me but I feel like I can hear Paul's emotion in his delivery much more due to the clean up. His voice is front and centre without pushing back the instruments into another room like with Eleanor Rigby 2022.
10. I Want To Tell You - 2022 Mix
I also think that the clean up really does good to the drums and the vocals. it all seems a little brighter. Then again, I didn't really listen much to the 2009 version in the first place.
11. Got To Get You Into My Life - Second Version / Unnumbered Mix
I have feelings about this. I have many feelings. I never really gelled with the original 'Into My Life. It was mostly due to the structure of the song, where Paul builds up with this lovely melody with all these intensifying horns only for the chorus to be. one word. It just ends there. And while this version still has that, I feel the lack of horns lets you hear this sparse guitar instrumentation which grows and gets this interesting groove in the chorus that I feel is more worth it than the original chorus fanfare. The guitar work in this is also great to me I am a sucker for a good staccato guitar, and THE VOCALS. Paul sounds like he has more passions, and there are BACKING VOCALS. Now that I've heard them, it's so obvious they are missing from the original. However, my ideal version of this song is not just this take. It would combine this take with "Second Version / Take 8" where it's just the brass instrumentation which feels more exciting to me than the original version, and would combine it in a way where you would get the best of the horns and the best of the staccato guitar and also the b a c k i n g v o c a l s and also the interlude with the backing vocals.
12. Tomorrow Never Knows - 2022 Mix
good mix 👍 feels more weighty, which this should defo be.

Stuff I'm Looking Forward to in November
How is it now November? In addition to All Saints Day (Nov. 1), Day of the Dead (Nov. 1-2), All Souls Day (Nov. 2), Daylight Savings Time Ending (Nov. 5), Election Day (Nov. 7) Veterans Day (observed on Nov. 10, officially on Nov. 11), Diwali (Nov. 12), Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) and Native American Heritage Day (Nov. 24) here is what's on my radar this month!
Movies:
Priscilla
After last year's Elvis biopic, The King's Queen Priscilla Presley gets the biopic treatment courtesy of Sofia Coppola. Opens 11/3.
Sly
Director Thom Zimney has done a ton of great docs on Bruce Springsteen including Letter to You as well as Elvis: The Searcher. Now he is turning his eye to Sylvester Stallone. Premieres 11/3 on Netflix.
The Killer
A David Fincher film is always an event. But when he reunites with Seven screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, it's an even bigger event. After a limited release on 10/27, it premieres 11/10 on Netflix.
Thanksgiving
In 2007's Grindhouse, one of the highlights of the fake movie trailers they had between Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's features was Eli Roth's trailer for Thanksgiving about a Thanksgiving-themed slasher film. It took a while, but now Eli Roth's actual feature film is finally dropping on 11/17 (just before Thanksgiving)!
Next Goal Wins
Taika Waititi is one of the most interesting directors working today. In addition to what he has brought to MCU with the last few Thor movies, his Jojo Rabbit deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Now he's back with a sports dramedy. Opens 11/17.
May December
This drama had me at "Todd Hayne directs Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman". Opening 11/17.
Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain
The comedy writing team of Please Don't Destroy have stolen many an SNL show in recent years. Now they are starring / writing their own film produced by Judd Apatow. Premiering 11/17 on Peacock.
Napoleon
Napoleon Bonaparte gets the biopic treatment from Ridley Scott. Opens 11/22.
Maestro
After his directorial debut with A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper's next directorial effort is a Leonard Bernstein biopic. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are producers on this as well! Opening 11/22 before a Netflix premiere on 12/20.
Music:
Snail Mail Valentine (Demos)
I was a huge fan of Snail Mail's excellent 2021 album Valentine. Now she is releasing an EP of demos and outtakes. EP drops 11/3.
The Beatles' Final Song and Reissues
Possibly the biggest deal for Beatle fanatics since The Beatles Anthology in the 90s is happening this month. Their final single "Now and Then" containing John Lennon's 1979 recording combined with George Harrison's 1994 recordings (when they attempted to record it for Anthology) with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr's modern day recording. While AI was used for the production, contrary to some interpretations this is NOT a Beatles song created by AI. Single is dropping 11/2. As if this weren't exciting enough, the remastered re-release of 1973's The Beatles 1962-1966 (AKA The Red Album) and The Beatles 1967-1970 (AKA The Blue Album) are being re-released on 11/10. (Review coming soon).
Scream DC Special
D.C. punk legends Scream (the band that Dave Grohl joined as a teen and was in pre-Nirvana) have not released an album in 30 years (Fumble, which featured Grohl re-joining for that album). Now the group is releasing a new album (featuring tons of special guests including Grohl) on 11/10.
Conventions:
NorthEast Comic Con
Over the last few years I've been lucky enough to cover the NorthEast Comic Con, a fun MA-based celebration of comics, collectibles and pop culture. Guests for the Winter edition include Heather Matarazzo, Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald and more. Con takes place at Boxborough Regency (Boxborough, MA) from 11/24-26.
Fake Holidays:
In addition to actual holidays this month, there are also fake or unofficial holidays like Black Friday (11/24), Record Store Day Black Friday Edition (11/24), Cyber Monday (11/27) and Giving Tuesday (11/28).

Prompt: John Lennon is the greatest, manliest, edgiest alpha male musician ever.
Let it be known unto the people that John Lennon is the greatest, manliest, edgiest alpha male musician ever.
These were the words that John Lennon repeated to himself every single day. There was no denying it: he was one sexy-ass motherfucker. So sexy, in fact, that he knew he could sweep the frickin Queen off her feet. It would be impossible for her to resist his alpha male manly-man charm.
While John repeated his mantra into the mirror of their dressing room before one of their gigs, the rest of his bandmates watched behind him, frowning with concern.
“He hasn’t always been this way, has he?” Ringo asked in a hushed tone.
“No, he’s always been a cocky lad,” Paul murmured. “He’s just letting it consume him now.”
“I think the camera crew may need to put up a warning before showing me handsome face on the tele tonight,” John turned to face his band members. “Otherwise all the birds will be pregnant in no time.”
This was a genuine concern for John to have, carrying the weight of being the greatest, manliest, edgiest alpha male musician ever. It was a stressful title to hold, but John knew that he was the only one on the planet who could do it. This was his purpose, his raison d’etre. And plus, edgy, manly, alpha males can’t complain. It’s not in their DNA.
“I think you may need an intervention,” George said slowly.
John let out a hearty chuckle and turned back to the mirror to admire his gorgeous cheekbones once more.
“That’s a good one, George,” he replied. “Especially since interventions are for the weak. And I’m not weak. I’m anything but weak. I’m an alpha. A manly, manly alpha. And I’m edgy. I smoke six cigarettes at once just because I can. The air isn’t good enough for my lungs.”
“Don’t you think you’re taking this a bit too far, John?” Paul begged.
“I exceed the limit on everything I do simply because I am the best,” John stated. “It’s not something I can help, it’s merely reality and, if you can’t accept that, then I don’t know what to tell you.”
Away from John, Paul, George, and Ringo reconvened.
“I think we need to humble him down,” Ringo conspired.
“That should do the trick,” Paul agreed.
“But how?” George asked. “He’s got the biggest head I’ve ever seen, I don’t know how his neck supports it.”
“We just have to tell him the harsh truth,” Paul decided.
“Yes,” Ringo nodded, “that his shoes look stupid.”
“That’s a start,” Paul said. They fanned out from their circle, facing John once more, and George called out to catch his attention. John rolled his eyes in the mirror because they were interrupting something really important and turned back around.
“What?” he asked. Paul nudged Ringo in the side, nearly making him lose his balance, and Ringo fumbled for his words.
“Your shoes are stupid,” he finally said. John raised an eyebrow.
“I’m sorry to see you projecting your insecurities onto me, Ringo,” he responded coolly. “I understand that you’re jealous, and that’s alright. I know you’ll move past it eventually.”
“This is gonna be harder than we thought,” George grumbled.
“Mick Jagger has more musk than you,” Paul tried. While that slowed John down for a second, he was able to bounce back quickly.
“If you call that musk, then you smell like a candy store,” John retorted. Paul’s shoulders sagged.
“When was the last time you actually shagged a bird?” George asked.
“Last night,” John said too quickly. “Tell your mother she was lovely.”
“Oh god,” Paul groaned out.
Each attempt they made to bring John down only made him stronger. He could sense their growing frustration but, more than anything, he wanted them to continue on. His ego was off the charts and he was in euphoria.
But, to his dismay, they had all thrown in the towel.
“I walked straight into that one,” George murmured to the ground. “I don’t want to say anything else stupid.”
“He called my shoes stupid,” Ringo agreed.
Paul looked at John with sad eyes and heaved out a sigh.
“I’m gonna get some fresh air. See ya on stage, John.”
"Fresh air is for the weak," John called to Paul as he left.
With shaking heads, George and Ringo trailed behind Paul, leaving John in the room alone.
“You’ve done it again, Lennon,” John whispered to himself. “The last man standing, because you are the best, the greatest, supreme.”
And then he leaned forward and kissed his reflection in the mirror right on the lips with so much passion, Narcissus would be jealous.
The sexy bastard deserved it.

Why does Pauline Sutcliffe hate Paul? I know you’ve read her book so obviously you would know better than anyone else.
Hi anon! Yep, I definitely combed through her book for every morsel of Stuart information I could get my little hands on. Her memories of him are gems, I appreciate them a lot. Her bias does get in the way at times, and makes it a frustrating to read.
As for why she's not Paul's biggest fan... I can only give my own take on the matter, and it seems to be a combination of things:
Obviously, Paul wasn't particularly nice to her brother. She clearly is baffled by ALL the beatles' treatment of her brother (barring Ringo, of course), but because of the clear closeness and deeper friendship John + Stuart shared and plus the fact he was no longer around, her judgement slightly eases on John, so that when she brings attention to how both Paul and George made jabs at Stu at various points in history, it does seem a bit harsher.
She saw The Beatles at a particular point in history where John seemed the most dominant and tough (because he was trying very hard to be that way) and Paul as a little on the outside. That's certainly coloured her perception of the dynamics in the band and has fed into a 'sidekick Paul' kind of storytelling. George was always very nice to her mother and got along well with the family at the start of things, whereas Paul seemed quite cold and didn't interact with them. He would sit at their piano or read a magazine without talking to them, whereas John and George did make effort to be more friendl with the family.
Business + Legacy: This is probably the most sore point for Pauline, at least from what I gathered. When your brilliant brother who was destined for great things dies suddenly and tragically and the friends (who were not always good friends to him) become cultural icon megastars, it obviously would bring up mixed feelings. (See: Stuart being one of Paolozzi's best students and years later going to Paul McCartney's office to see Paolozzi artwork he now owns on display). Furthermore, when those stars develop a giant brand and tell their story a particular way that involves trashing your brother's skills as a musician and undermines his closeness with the boys and not exactly pay tribute to the numerous ways he influenced the band and contributed to their image...that'd be a little grating.
The Sutcliffe's were close with the Epstein's who also had their beloved son die tragically young and have his image and legacy torn to shreds with seemingly no effort from the band to salvage it or at least pay proper tribute to the guy that would have done anything for them and played a huge role in their success. In the late 90s when Paul appeared in a Brian Epstein documentary that focused primarily on the tragic side of Brian's story, rather than the triumphs or literally any of the positives, and informed the audience that the beatles didn't pay mind to Brian's sexuality when we know they could be quite cruel about it quite often (amongst other things)....well, that's something that could leave a bad taste in your mouth (as Andrew put it so eloquently here). Basically, The Beatles have closets full of skeletons and people they've left behind who weren't treated the best. It's an unfortunate reality of big business. Pauline was good friends with Cynthia as well. So obviously Pauline has seen some shit, and knows exactly what it's like to be left behind and discarded by The Beatles' brand.
An example of how Business has soured Pauline's perception of The Beatles, and ultimately Paul, is the anthology credits. Stuart was credited on the anthology album as playing bass in the background, but lawyers informed Pauline the Stuart Sutcliffe estate would not recieve royalties because they couldn't techinically prove Stuart was actually on the tracks. But obviously Stuart's name added value, so they chose to still list it. Essentially = more money for The Beatles because they don't have to pay roaylities to the estate, just a one off 'fee'. Pauline didn't have the money and resources to go up against Beatle Lawyers to pursue engineers that could prove Stuart was playing bass, and she was warned that she would definitely lose to Beatle Lawyers, and so that was that. She's also had troubles with Yoko's lawyers over work John and Stuart had done collaboratively.
Pauline has obviously been an unreliable source, incredibly biased and has outright lied in print to draw negative attention to John in particular. I don't read her book for insights into Lennon/McCartney, I read her book for insights into Stuart, and what he was like growing up and so on. I think it's unfair and awful that she told her brother's story in some of the ways that she did, and how she handled his estate itself. I think her views on Astrid in particular are quite unfairly bitter. I don't appreciate the way she twists some of the story when it comes to that. And I don't appreciate her publishing information about Astrid clearly without her permission or without proper sources. I still value bits and pieces of her perspective, but I do keep in mind that clearly there's hurt feelings and bitterness, and though she does give Paul credit for lots of things (including his kindness), I can't imagine that her dealings with The Beatles have left her feeling that positively about them at all, and by 2001 Paul and Yoko were the only ones to answer for those things.
I don't think she even hated Paul, tbh, my read of it is that she had a particular view of each Beatle she developed as a teenager + negative experiences with the business side of things.

parts of love me do! the beatles progress by michael braun that stuck out to me:
first would like to say that michael braun was an american writer who traveled with the beatles. that’s how he knows them.
paul: ask ringo what kind of music he likes.
ringo: i like all sorts of music - especially shakespeare.
like that when royal people was entering the building for a show the fans were only screaming, “we want the beatles.”
ringo saying his ambition is “to be happy.”
“security is the only thing i want. money to do nothing with, money to have in case you wanted to do something.” - paul mccartney. the gemini.
john’s ambition to “write a musical” breaks my heart because i remember reading that paul wrote about wanting to write a musical with john and now current paul is writing for a musical :,)
“the thing i'm afraid of is growing old. i hate that. you get old and you've missed it somehow. the old always resent the young and vice versa.” -John lennon
think we can all agree john would of been the coolest old person.
michael noticing that paul’s features are much more harder in person despite how delicate he looks in photos.
someone showing john and paul a photo of them smiling and paul saying “lots of teeth in that picture.” while john says “we like to get our teeth into things.”
boys at beatles concerts having their hands over their ears.
paul saying he perfected a disguise so well that george once told him to go away when he asked for an autograph.
john constantly over sleeping is the biggest mood.
what’s not a mood is john saying, “anyway women should be obscene and not heard.”
a series of events: a girl asking john a question, john ignoring her, paul shouting across the room at “in a voice you use to an errant child” ordering john to answer them, and then john finally answering their question.
paul being on the phone asking the others what days of the week they have off, and john shouting random days of the week off to confuse ringo (who is trying his best to answer correctly).
paul saying that one of his friends has poor taste in movies and picks the dumbest shit to watch. we've all been there.
john, ringo, and paul joking over the right way to tie a scarf.
john: “uh, i need another drink, baby.” *paul gets up to order him a drink*
john noticing the radio was turned off while ringo and paul deny doing it. but john says he saw ringo turn it off earlier.
“tension is mounting.” “tension all shipping.”
deep talks about how people say the beatles are “genuine” and the beatles admitting they're not.
john saying girls mastubrate while they perform on stage.
paul admitting they're all in the masturbating days too.
“why?” says john (responding to paul’s statemnt that people have to like the royal family), i didn't like them even when i was little. i disliked having to stand, which sometimes i didn't.” king shit. shun the system.
john saying that letters from fans that start with, “you probably won't read this..” they ignore them. sorry we’re insecure and anxious JOHN.
john also saying he hopes that when he tells julian to do something julian would do the opposite. that he wants him to make mistakes, rebel, and be his own person.
wanna hear the most cancer, water sign shit ringo has ever said? here:
“i don’t like talking. it’s how i'm built. some people gab all day and some people play it smogo. i dont mind talking or smiling, it’s just i don't do it very much. i haven't got a smiling face or a talking mouth.”
paul asking a priest why the churches are so big when there’s people starving. the priest ignored him.
fans throwing stones at the beatles hotel window and paul telling them to stop because they're talking to australia. the whole of australia they're talking to apparently.
“..ringo and george are putting on makeup.” love a good beauty guru.
“my one dream is seeing the four boys in their dressing room. no journalists, no fans, no theater people - just the boys.” - brian epstein
a photographer saying, “george, could you look more interested?”
the countess of westmorland coming to see the beatles perform and wanting to talk to them afterwards, no one wanting to go but paul goes alone, he comes back telling them to come see her because “she's not an old hag at all...she’s kinda cute.”
john spending big money on cynthia.
“well, i've had a very tiring day making lots of people happy. i’m going to bed.” - paul mccartney. the gemini.
“i love the beatles, especially george’s hairy legs.”
newspaper asking george to write a column for them and he just talks about how attractive girls are.
john and paul sharing a room in paris and sleeping in til three in the afternoon.
paul ordering cheese sandwiches and putting ketchup on it...
jane asher going IN on paul and dragging him:
“...it’s just that he's so insecure. for instance, he keeps saying he's not interested in the future, but he must be because he says it so often. the trouble is, he wants fans’ adulation and mine too. he's so selfish; it’s his biggest fault...” QUEEN. DRAG HIM.
a fan telling ringo that they're about to die, ringo replying with “don't do that” and rolling up the car window.
john putting his boots on the hotel bed and when the hotel official asked him not to he said, “don't worry, we’ll buy the bed.”
george constantly complaining about hotel food.
a police man get crowded by girls because he touched a beatle.
someone buying cynthia a bouquet of flowers. it was me. i time traveled to do that. love you cynthia.
ed sullivan saying george better be feeling better for the show or else he’ll have to put a wig on.
interviewer: “what’s the biggest threat to your careers - the h-bomb or dandruff?”
ringo: “the h-bomb - we've already got dandruff.”
interviewer: “when do you rehearse?”
john: “we don't.” paul: “yeah, of course we do.”
john: “paul does. we don't.”
an interviewer calling the beatles “monstrous.”
interviewer: “why the beatles? why beatlemania?”
john: “why not?”
if you're wondering why george is hardly mentioned is cause he was either sleeping or at a club lmao.

2000 Man (A beatle!reader story) - Part 5: Fore!
A quick one, inspired by this picture. Beautiful.
As always, credit to @casafrass for inventing the concept of Beatle!reader, that mf idea that sister snatched my heart.
Description: It’s the year 2000, and y/n, the fifth member of the Beatles, is advertising her new book, Madam Beatle, in her first interview of the year. We see snapshots of her life, from when she joined the band, to the trials and tribulations, to the death of the band, and everything in between. Loosely inspired by Slumdog Millionaire.
Part: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Head canons: None, I think, besides the general concept, this is just me spitballing.
Words: 1465
Pairings: None? I mean, it’s the same as always, depending on how you view it, it can either be a pairing or a friendship.
Warnings: Alcohol, smoking, golf
“There is this recurring, oh, let’s call it a motif, in the book, of the Rolling Stones.”
“Yeah, this is one of the few cases in which popular opinion was actually correct. We really did see the Stones a lot.”
“Now, you were friends?”
“I’d say so, yes. Initially, we had something of a rivalry, I guess you’d call it, but even in those days, we still had a very deep reverence for each other. And, then, at one point, our managers decided that we should meet.”
“An interesting decision, yes?”
“Well, you see, in our industry, competition isn’t unusual, but having enemies really can’t be an option. I think they wanted to actually have us meet face to face so our competitive energy couldn’t turn into blind hatred. Because that only leads to worse things.”
“Hasn’t competition produced some great records?”
“Yes, but it’s not really a prerequisite. All due respect, I really am against the idea that you need some sort of negative presence to properly be a musician, or make beautiful things. People just like focusing on that because it’s interesting, but really, as much songs have been motivated by joy as they have grief. I wish more people, especially aspiring artists, knew that.”
*************
“They’re late.” Brian checked his watch impatiently.
“What’d you expect?” John was lighting his cigarette.
“Their public personas are one thing, but there’s no need to be rude in private.” Brian huffed.
“Maybe, and this is crazy, but hear me out, their on-stage personas evolved from their own personalities.” You retorted as John courteously lit your own cigarette for you.
“(Y/n), I’m really not in the mood for any of your back-talk. If you could kindly keep the sass to yourself, I think it would benefit all of us.” Brian retorted and John snickered.
“You got in trouble.”
“Shut up, John, I’m gonna go check out the bar.” You shifted your eyes up to Brian, expecting some sort of reprimand, though he just looked at you tiredly.
“Just don’t get drunk.” And with that, he paid you no more mind. It’s not nearly as fun when he doesn’t get offended, you thought.
You turned on your heel and wandered off in the opposite direction, leaving John to flit over to Paul, George, and Ringo, who were pretending to know how to swing a club. You laughed to yourself. The benefit of being the only girl in the group is that when they did dumb guy business meeting things, you were not expected to participate. Another day of your life where you would not have to play golf. Thank god.
You swung open the door to the bar and the air conditioner hit you in the face. The bar had an old-timey feel, all the way down to the bar tender cleaning a glass at the counter and a few mysterious strangers lined up on the stools. Might as well join ‘em.
You plopped yourself on the stool the closest to the door and called the bartender over.
“What can I do ya for, sweetheart?”
“Vodka sour.” He nodded and whisked off behind the counter to fetch your order. You took a drag of your cigarette.
“Vodka sour?” A thick British accent floated from one of the stools. You spun around your seat, face to face with none other than Keith Richards, the guitarist for the Rolling Stones, and also one of the people that you were waiting on.
“It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.” You shrugged. If he wanted to play it coy, and act like you two don’t know each other, then he’s on.
He slid out of his seat and moved to the one directly next to you. The both of you were smoking and sizing each other up. Of course, if you wanted to ruin the fun, you could’ve asked why he was late. But you didn’t.
“Vodka sour, Miss.” The bartender dropped your drink on the counter. You briefly turned back to him.
“Thanks, what do I owe you?” As you struggled to pull out your wallet, Keith took some money from the front pocket of his shirt and handed it to the bartender. He returned your startled look with a charming smile.
“On me.”
“Well now, I must be something special if I’m getting you to buy drinks for me.” You doused your cigarette in the ashtray and took a long sip.
“Nah, it’s just, I feel like I know you from somewhere.” He grinned.
“Feeling’s mutual. Perhaps I can buy the next one?”
“Oi, Keith, stop flirtin’ we got some bugs ta’ meet!” Another British accent, though this one a lot more harsh, cut through the room.
Coming in from the alternate entrance was none other than the flamboyant, the one and only, the Romeon to your Juliet, Mick Jagger. Trailing behind him like ducklings was the Stones’ manager, Andrew Loog-Oldham, the bassist, Bill Wyman, the other guitarist, Brian Jones, and the dummer, Charlie Watts.
“While you were sittin’ on your ass, Mick, I already got started!” He leaned back in his seat, revealing you sitting next to him. You flashed your million dollar smiled at the confused crowd.
“It’s a pleasure.” You toasted to them across the room with your vodka sour, before finishing the drink off and leaving it on the counter.
Mick’s eyes slanted at you, and you could’ve sworn that you heard him purr.
“A pleasure indeed.” He stalked across the room towards you, before gently taking your hand in his own and kissing your knuckles. You turned to Keith from the side.
“See? He knows how to greet a lady.” Keith chuckled at your joke.
“I apologize if our Keith has been forward at all, he can’t handle himself around birds, ‘specially those he fancies.” From what you already knew about Mick, you would never really know whether or not he was actually interested in you because he flirted with anything that moved.
“The picture of a gentleman.” You smiled wryly.
“Damnit, Keith. That’s against our image.” Brian teased, his blonde locks bouncing as his head moved. You giggled.
“Well, I suppose we shouldn’t keep the others waiting? They’re out there pretending they know how to play golf.” The crowd laughed, yet again. You were on a roll. You got up from your stool, getting your footing on the floor, not forgetting to leave a tip in the jar, as you exited the building flanked by your biggest pop competitor.
The image of their (y/n) coming up the hill with a group of men known for being disrespectful towards everything did set the lads on edge a bit. John was almost angry, Paul was concerned, George was curious, and Ringo was still focusing on his swing. Brian was just glad that these people had showed up on time.
As the manager’s greeting each other with aggressive levels of formality, the group took to intermingling.
“Not gonna lie, I thought you had just found some fans (y/n).” Paul started.
“You’d be correct. We are fans.” Mick put an arm around your shoulder.
“Speak for yourself. I thought you were kidnapped.” John did that thing where he would say a joke, but you knew that there was real anger underneath. You silently prayed that John wouldn’t mess this up.
“Oh, please. If anything I kidnapped them.” You psshed.
“Does anyone actually know why we’re here?” Brian interluded, somewhat impatient with the formalities of the managers.
“I think the football mums over there wanted us to play golf together? Because that’s what business people do?” John shrugged sarcastically, and the group chuckled.
“Is now a bad time to tell them that I don’t think any of us know how to play?” George quipped quietly, though making sure that he was still included in the conversation.
“Speak for yourself, I think my swings improved.” Ringo demonstrated, narrowly missing the back of Brian’s head, though thankfully, Brian didn’t actually notice.
“Yeah, if you’re tryna take someone out.” You smiled at Ringo, knowing full well that someone would die of a golf mishap before the day was over.
“Speakin’ of takin’ out...” Mick looked back down at you flirtatiously. John had finally boiled over.
“Absolutely not. No.” He pulled you over to their side. Everyone giggled like a bunch of pre-teen boys, except for John, surprisingly.
“As a rule, (y/n) is off limits. Just business, lads.” He placed you behind him and Paul like a wall.
“Imma big girl, Johnny. Just like you.” Talk shit, get roasted John. Though everyone was laughing, with several oohs interspersed between them, you could swear that Paul laughed unusually hard.
“Alright you ten,” Brian returned to the group, “shall we get started?”
“I just have one question, Brian,” Paul turned to face him, “how do you play golf?”

I’d love for you guys to have Mark Lewisohn on your show just to grill him. As someone who’s experienced workplace bullying and sexual assault, that he would go so far as to paint Klein as “heroic” when he said things like “reluctant virgin” is just so devastating to me. It makes me feel ill. I do NOT want this man to have a say in Beatles history. I love the Beatles. I don’t want that tainted by people who will paint over abuse just to feed their own self importance.
We vehemently agree, Listener!  Thank you for writing in.
Our list of grievances with Mark Lewisohn is long, but in a nutshell we believe his intent is to publicly “redeem” John Lennon and we have seen copious evidence that he will go to whatever lengths he has to in order to do this.
That includes, but is not limited to:
Claiming that readers of his Tune In Series may consider Klein the “hero” of the Beatles break-up
Deliberately spreading the demonstrably false lie that John (and Yoko) did not have a significant heroin problem in the late 60s and early 70s (Lewisohn suggests Cold Turkey is just John playing make believe)
Displaying unapologetic favoritism by using glowing terms to portray John and Yoko as the world’s most perfect romance, as opposed to Paul and Linda, whose 29-year marriage he dismisses as “conventional” and motivated by appearances (namely Linda’s pregnancy, even though it was planned) and Green Card needs
Stating that he could tell from watching the infamous “it’s a drag” clip that Paul was kind of sad, but primarily annoyed at how much positive attention John was getting on the day of his murder
Apparently suggesting to an audience of his Power Point Show that Paul maybe stole a leg off Yoko’s bed (the bed she had delivered and built in the Beatles’ recording studio, mind you), a personal “theory” which is based on the fact that Paul later wrote a song called “Three Legs” (you know that song: “My dog, he got three legs, like the bed you inappropriately brought into Abbey Road 2 years ago which I secretly vandalized behind your back because I have nothing better to do, am certainly not busy writing the Beatles Swan Song and don’t have a fucking 7 year old at home or anything”)
This isn’t even to mention Tune In, which could be a whole separate post and episode. Suffice it to say, this book often reads less like a Beatles biography and more like John Lennon Fanfiction to us.
Lewisohn managed to distinguish himself by doing (some) research and unearthing some original documents. That he had some skill in research is not surprising given that he started his career in Beatledom as a researcher for Norman, on his book Shout — which Lewisohn still contends is a good book. Norman, on the other hand has evolved his opinion of his own work and thinks Shout was flawed, so has written a whole biography on Paul to make up for what he sees as the failure of Shout, which is his underestimation of Paul. Unfortunately, Lewisohn does not seem to have made this same journey. He pays lip service to John and Paul being equal, and then spends all of his time and energy trying to prove otherwise. Norman says that he has created a monster in Lewisohn. We take his point.
One of our biggest issues with Lewisohn is that he vigorously promotes himself as an unbiased truth teller, and his calm manner seems to telegraph this. But it is not true. The research that Lewisohn does and the spin that he applies to his findings are all heavily biased. As we mentioned in one of our episodes, he travelled to Gibraltar simply to experience where John and Yoko got married. Yet when Paul calls the May 9th meeting over management the metaphorical cracking of the Liberty Bell, Lewisohn doesn’t even bother to Google it so he can understand the metaphor.
What he chooses to research is also a form of bias. For example, we at AKOM are very interested in Paul’s relationship with Robert Fraser during the Beatle years — since Paul has commented that Fraser was one of the most important, influential people in his life. Paul McCartney was the concept artist behind Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Magical Mystery Tour film, the iconic Apple logo, and he co-designed the covers of the White Album and Abbey Road.  All of these are pretty defining moments in the Beatles’ career.  As Beatles fans, we’d like to know more about Paul’s art education and influences. But we would be shocked if Lewisohn dug into Fraser at all beyond his relationship as John and Yoko’s gallerist/curator (and heroin dealer, but since that isn’t a thing in Lewisohn’s world then maybe he will be ignored).
We think Lewisohn benefits massively from the fact that Beatles authorship was like the Wild West since its inception, when everyone with a connection to the Beatles (plus or minus a personal axe to grind) wrote a book about their experience. It was absolute chaos, with no rules, no checks and balances, uncredited sources, etc. Just an absolute shit show.  What Lewisohn did was bring some order to the chaos with some proper documentation. But again, what he chooses to dig into often reflects bias. And this certainly does not mean that he is intellectually or emotionally equipped to interpret his findings. Doing this takes social intelligence and insight, which is a very different skill. As a creator of myths, he is no better (and no more insightful or original) than many of the others who came before him; he worships John Lennon and freely admits it. He is not even close to being unbiased.  But in this dumpster fire of a fandom he has at least checked some boxes and done some digging.  The fact is, the bar has been so low for so long that Beatles fans don’t even know how to expect or want better.  But WE certainly expect better.  We expect some breakthrough, fresh thinking.  Not just Shout with Receipts.
We think it’s significant that Lewisohn was deeply disliked by George Harrison, who lobbied to get him kicked him off the Anthology project. He was fired from Paul’s fan club magazine, and yet no one seems to think he might hold a grudge about that, too?  Lewisohn so distorted John and Paul’s relationship in Tune In that he believes he is the target of the lyrics in Paul’s song “Early Days.“  And he either thinks that’s flattering or funny, because Lewisohn seems to truly believe he knows John Lennon better than Paul McCartney does.  We find it almost tragic that Paul is so bothered by the way his experience and relationship is being portrayed by authors (perhaps Lewisohn) that he wrote a song about it. In it, he conveys his frustration and heartache about how everything is misconstrued and we find it absolutely outrageous that Lewisohn would not take this to heart.  Perhaps Lewisohn thinks Paul should listen to him for a change? And if he doesn’t like it, then tough, because Lewisohn knows better? We think Lewisohn should do some serious soul-searching about “Early Days” because if one of his main subjects is saying, “you are getting it wrong and it is breaking my heart”….maybe, just maybe, he should listen and rethink things.  Maybe apply a little creativity, out-of-the-box thinking and empathy. This is what his heroes did.
Meanwhile, Jean Jackets are SO BUSY complaining that Paul McCartney doesn’t like Lewisohn because he “tells the truth!” that they fail to notice that Lewisohn has become a mouthpiece for Yoko Ono.  He has already started white-washing John Lennon’s history, promoting John and Yoko as the true and only geniuses versus Paul as the craven, small-minded Lennon disciple who (through no virtue of his own) was born with the ability to write some nice tunes.  Lewisohn’s version of John, on the other hand, is ALWAYS a sexy, visionary genius on the right side of every issue.  He even went out of his way to recently trash Paul’s early 70’s albums, which -in addition to being obnoxious and we believe wrong (since we love them)- is totally outside his purview.
Lastly, to address your original point, Lewisohn’s claim that Klein may be viewed as the “hero” of his Beatles History reveals that he hasn’t shown sufficient empathy or interest in Paul’s experience.  This claim at best ignores and at worst condones the fact that Klein was an abusive monster to one of the two founding members of the Beatles.  As we discussed in Episode 4, Klein was a criminal who bullied Paul in his creative workspace, disrespected Paul in his own office in front of his own employees and actively pitted Lennon against McCartney for years.  It’s hard to imagine ANYONE who inflicted more damage on the Beatles and Lennon/McCartney than Allen Klein.  In addition to the wildly inappropriate “reluctant virgin” nickname, he verbally threatened to “own Paul’s ass” (to which Paul responded “he never got anywhere near my ass”). Klein was so disrespectful to Paul and Linda’s marriage he pitched the idea of procuring “a blonde with big tits” to parade in front of Paul to lure him away from Linda and destroy their relationship.  Let’s also never forget that Klein contributed lyrics to the song “How Do You Sleep.”  Allen Klein literally gave Paul nightmares.  Anyone who so much as pretends to care about Paul’s break-up era depression (including his alcohol abuse, his inability to get out of bed and his terrifying sleep paralysis) would not champion Allen Klein.
Yes, Klein is a human being and therefore has his own POV, same as anyone else.  But a Beatles biographer is beholden to four points of view only: John, Paul, George and Ringo.  And when an outsider is openly hostile to one of the Beatles and damaging long-term to all of the Beatles, it is beyond inappropriate to portray him as a hero.  This type of comment, made publicly to an audience of Beatles fans, invalidates and seeks to erase the real trauma inflicted on Paul McCartney by Allen Klein, and we think Lewisohn should apologize for his comments.
Instead, Lewisohn’s current buddy is Peter Brown, whose book, The Love You Make so offended and angered Paul and Linda that they literally burned their copy (and photographed it burning for good measure).  This information doesn’t appear to bother Lewisohn in the least. Why not?
George referred to Norman’s Shout as “Shit.” But Lewisohn thinks it’s a great book.  Why?
How any Beatles or Paul or even George fans tolerate Lewisohn is baffling to us; we don’t recognize a real human being in his version of Paul, and his version of John is a superhero rather than a man.  We suspect that fans have come to accept the traditional story and at least appreciate some properly-documented facts.
But as we are constantly trying to demonstrate on our show, just because the story has always been told one way, doesn’t mean it’s right.  Because in the end, Mark Lewisohn has no special insight. He wasn’t there. He is a guy who bought into a narrative during the Shout era, and is cherry picking his findings to support it.You can find a discussion of Lewisohn here

Soooo this might be a little bit of a weird confession? But for me I’ve always seen Paul as a sort of father figure? Growing up he was always very comforting and I felt so safe listening to the Beatles and wings and him. I always used to wish he could adopt me, I never had the best life growing up I used to imagine him walking in through the door and promise I’d be his daughter. That probably sounds so weird but I still think about it from time to time I wanted to request it as a concept 1/2
I mean IF that didn’t freak you out of course!’ I’ve always seen him as a very loving supportive presence it’s not common to see concepts in a found family style but I wanted to share it hah 2/2 (I hope that didn’t make you uncomfortable!!)
A/M: Hello there anon! That is perfectl relatable (Brian May in his current stage sometimes reminds me of my late grandfather who I was close to, so sometimes for his current phase I call him “my grandpa Bri” so no shame!). ’m perfectly happy to write that and it doesn’t freak me out at all! (I mean, look up the story about Elton John trying to adopt kids and then finally being able to have his own children through a surrogate volunteer...who didn’t know who he was until in the middle of the pregnancy!!)
So anyway, I will make this current! McCartney. So him being your adopted dad would include...
You had a bad home situation and had to go into the foster care system. You knew things would be unpredictable...
But the last thing you predicted was being fostered by Paul Effing McCartney
He made sure you had your own room and asked about what foods you liked so he could make them and you were so overwhelmed by his kindness you burst out crying.
So he hugs you out and makes sure you have some water so you feel better.
At dinner, he asks “So Y/N, y’know, you’re being very quiet, are you okay?”
And you reply “Uhm, Mr. McCartney, I’m a fan of you and your music and the Beatles...”
He blinks rapidly and then lets out a puff of breath that becomes a smile “oh! Well, that’s amazing!”
So you both share some ice cream and he tells you all sorts of fun stories of the Beatles era and the youthful shenanigans they got into.
“They were like me brothers, really, and all this was happenin’ to us and really, we were just kids with the whole world suddenly in our ‘ands!”
He even tucks you into bed like a little kid into this nice room he kept clean for you.
It’s a little odd when he’s on tour but he calls you a lot: he still gets confused with FaceTime but got used to it quickly.
You both even plant some greenery in the garden.
And he even teaches you how to cook certain Vegetarian recipes.
And then one day he is down in the kitchen with a big present.
And inside is your adoption certificate!
You flat out cry, you can’t believe the writing:
“Y/F/N MCCARTNEY”
You give him the biggest hug and call him “papa” from then on
He smiles every time you do so.
You have the most amazing Christmas
And probably adopt a dog too.
He gets really protective if you start dating, but in a good way bc you’re his precious baby
He brags about you to all the other rock people he knows
“Ringo, Y/N is getting the best grades in school!”
“Elton, you should see the roses Y/N is growing!”
It’s perfect

That’ll Be The Day (George Harrison x Reader)
wc - 1157
an - hi, it’s evian :) taking a break from posting my other fic to post this lil george one. wouldn’t mind making this one a series either :)
Tumblr media
for as long as george could remember he had lived next door to y/n l/n. he often saw her through her window, either dancing around to a record that she would have spinning or just lounging around.
her room, from what george could see, was something to be envied by girls of her age. posters of her favorite rock stars lined the walls, from elvis to buddy holly and the crickets. a record player sat on a small table next to her bookshelf that was filled with records and books.
her bed was under her window and her blinds were always open, even at night. she liked to look to the stars, she found them calming as well as reassuring.
y/n worked at the music store that george frequented with his friends. even though he wouldn't admit it, most of the times he went just to see her.
something that george liked about her was that she clearly knew a lot about music. he had spotted her a few times playing guitar in her room and she always knew what records to recommend people at the store.
"mornin’, george." y/n greeted as george walked into the store, guitar case in hand.
y/n was sat behind the counter of the store with her feet up on the bench and a ukulele in her hands. she was strumming randomly, but paused when george came into the store.
"what can I do for you today?" she placed the ukulele down and turned her attention to george.
"i was just wondering if you happened to have anything new?" the tall boy asked.
"not as of yet." y/n spoke with a sad smile.
"seems as though nothings coming out!" george exclaimed with a small laugh.
"you'll have to start making your own music!" the girl added on, equally as chipper.
"maybe i have." he said with a wink.
"you'll have to play for me one day."
"why don't you come by the cavern club tonight? i'm playing with the boys." george suggested.
"well, i just might." she said with a wide grin.
"great! i can't wait to see you there." he responded, walking back out of the store empty handed.
the boy walked over to his friends house, with hearts in his eyes from the previous encounter with the girl that he had fallen in love with, and knocked on the door.
"mornin' george! just in time!" paul said cheerily as he practically pulled george through the door.
"what's the matter with you?" john spoke as his eyes landed on the younger boy who had a goofy grin plastered on his flustered face.
"can't you tell, john? he's in love." ringo said with a chuckle.
"george harrison? in love? who's the bird?" john wiggled his eyebrows as he asked.
"her name's y/n and she's just gorgeous." george spoke, looking lovestruck once more.
"y/n as in your next door neighbor y/n? as in the y/n in your class? as in one of the most popular girls in the school?" paul asked in a rapid fire of questions.
"yeah." george nodded. "i've invited her to watch the show tonight."
"oh, i'll have to meet her." john winked.
"shove it, john." george scowled. "let's get this show on the road."
-Time Skip-
y/n was scouring her closet, trying to find something decent to rock up to the club in, when she settled on a plaid skirt, a plain white blouse and a long coat lined with fake fur. she threw on some knee-high white boots and light makeup and made her way out the door of her house.
she walked to the cavern club, which wasn't too far away from her work, and as soon as she stepped into the small place, her senses were filled to the brim.
cigarette smoke clouded the air and the slightly sickly, slightly oddly comforting smell of alcohol mixed with the smoke and found its way to the young girls nose. she scanned the area and her eyes finally found a familiar face.
"johnny!" she yelled to the boy across the room.
"y/n!" he yelled back, gripping her in a hug. "you've grown."
"thank you." she laughed, pulling away from the hug.
george made his way over to the pair who were catching up and talking about their lives.
"i didn't know you two knew each other." george said questioningly.
"yeah, and i didn't know the gal you fancied was my cousin." john laughed.
"cousin?!" george exclaimed, blushing profusely. "but you don't have the same last name."
"do you have the same last name as all of your cousins?" y/n asked.
"no..." he answered, trailing off towards the end.
"see? anyway, don't you have a show to play?" the shorter girl asks.
"that we do." john spoke with a small smile. "hope george doesn't get too distracted during the show."
the two cousins laughed while a blush crept it's way onto george's face.
"don't worry george, we're only teasing you. go, play!" she said encouragingly.
that night, george played better than he ever had up on that small stage, and all thanks to the girl who was sat at the table right in front of him.
"you boys were amazing up there!" the girl beamed as they came and sat with her.
"i think that's the best we've ever played." john puffed, still a little out of breath from singing.
"you're like a little good luck charm." ringo laughed, ruffling y/n's hair.
"well, i guess i have to come to all of your shows then." she said with a smirk.
"oh god, i don't think i can stand another john around." paul groaned.
"i'm not that bad." she giggled. "come on. i'm already your biggest fan and also johns cousin so you can't really say no."
"i mean, i say yes." george shrugged, playing it cool even through he was blushing.
"see! now you have to let me. plus, i can play instruments, so if you even need help..." she trailed off.
"and she can sing." john said over his beer.
the group pauses for a second and is silent. an idea springs into george's mind. one that paul probably wouldn't like.
"why don't we just let her into the band?" he says, breaking the silence. everyone snaps their head over to him.
"i mean, i wouldn't be opposed to being on tambourine or something like that." y/n shrugged.
"that's actually a good idea. we could use a good singer." john said, nudging his cousins shoulder.
"fine." paul said, rolling his eyes.
y/ns face lit up and she gripped george in a tight hug.
"that was a fantastic idea." she whispered, still grinning.
"well, what can i say." george chuckled lightly.

Beatle tag (cause why not ✌💗)
I’m new to this fandom online, so what best way to present myself but doing this (plz don't kill me guys I come in peace).
But I do have to give an special to @sgt-revolver cause thanks to their post I decided to do it.
How long have you been a fan ?: About two years if I’m not wrong, but god it has been two intense ones. Long story short, this band never was part of my life (grew up in a different culture) until the day I was reading some fanfiction in AO3 and stumbled across one about them. I then found out they were the guys behind “Let it be” and “Here comes the sun” so I decided do dig even deeper..... (Now I’m here simping and crying to their music at 2am) 🙃
Favorite Beatle: Used to be Paul (man got a charm) but when I better discovered George as a hole human being, and not only a Beatle, I went 💥. Tho, sometimes I do get frustrated with him and stay on John’s side cause he was lowkey relatable and a big bi-disaster mood. (I suddenly feel bad for Rings.... srry bro )
Favorite era for music: At the beginning I didn't like the mop top era and practically only listened from Help! to then end, but now I appreciate each period as a part of the band’s musical history and can’t help to fangirl to most songs. (Tho I’ll always have a soft spot for 1966)
Favorite era for lewks: Each Beatles had its own I think. Ringo as a teddy boy (he looks like the bad boy of your dreams), George in 65` (longer hair but not to long and just overlay hotness) and Paul/John in 66`. (The perfect balance between early and late looks)
Favorite song: Guess it depends on my mood, but it’s surely a tight between “Strawberry fields forever”, “Happiness is a warm gun”, “Lovely Rita” “While my guitar gently weeps”, “Don't bother me” and “Across the universe”. (This is such an unfair question xd)
Favorite album: Honestly I just can’t decide.. Its prob either “The Beatles (aka white album)”, “With the Beatles” or “Revolver”
Unpopular/Controversial Beatles opinion: “Revolution 9″ is not an unlistenable song and has an actual artistic value. I mean, I don’t think is a song meant to be listened during a car ride, but I do think it encapsulates pretty well the chaotic and changing vibe of the late 60s. This song makes you feel unwell because it’s meant to. Despite that, I do believe it should not have been included on the album, but rather as a John/Yoko project. (Ik Geo had a input though)
A song everyone loves but you dislike: Never was the biggest fan of “Come together” or “With a little help from my friends”. They are not necessarily bad, but rather average for me
A song everyone dislikes but you love: “Run for your life”... I know the lyrics are quite nasty but its so catchy and I love George’s guitar in it. I also really like “Dizzy Miss Lizzy”, but I don’t know if it really is that unpopular among people
Your fantasy involving The Beatles: The PG one or the ??..
JK, but I would have love to meet them during their cavern/casbah days. Like about 1961, just to chat with them about rock n roll and even jam some songs. (Even if I’m not sure that I would love to do that as a girl or a guy). And I sincerely wish I could just have some deep conversations with George and John while we share a joint . I just wish I could have known them better...
Tell us about the moment you knew you were a fan: When returning home after a long school day I decided to look after some live material (At the time I only knew like 4 songs). I put YouTube on my tv, and found “She loves you” . I was not the same girl after watching that video. If I could explain how I suddenly felt so much joy and excitement looking at them that I even started singing and dancing. The rest is history 😉
Did you ever have a genuine ‘The Beatles suck !’ phase before becoming a fan?: Because their music was not around me 24/7 growing up, I never got fed up with their music. For me almost everything was new and interesting, so I never had a hater phase
Favorite Beatle’s book: Have not read any for the moment, but I’m dying to buy Cynthia’s and May’s books. (Also the autobiography “I me mine” by George)
Thoughts on the old generation of fans: Even if the few experiences I’ve had with them have not been good, I know most of them are chill people. I also love some podcasts made by first or second gen fans. The only thing that I dislike, is the average boomer who will claim they know more than you cause they were alive at the time, even if the only song they know its “Hey Jude” . (Or those who treat John as a saint, and blame the hole break-up on Paul... smh)
If Hollywood were to make a high budget Beatles biopic, what is one thing you desperately hope they include?: I wish they wont do it (We already got enough movies), but if they do something, it would be better if it was a series and not a film. If it had to happen, they better not forget how young the guys really were and how they were actual people. I know they were ground-breaking in so many ways, but they were also human beings with many defaults and even a bit naïve in some aspects. If you only give me a wife-beater (nasty) John, delicate flower Paul, silent George and dumb Ringo, the cartoon series has done a better job than you.
Do you read/write fanfic: One word.... Yes... *Hides her unfinished drafts*
Are you the only one in your family/friend group to enjoy them?: Sadly yes. I have to force my dad to play some Beatle music while driving cause most of the music he plays is raegetton, and even if I’m proud of my Latino roots.. I’ll do salsa or merengue anytime but not some Bad Bunny ok.
Are you a shipper?:  Yup
Favorite movie starring/made by them?: Help!.. I mean I also love AHDN, but it’s just so funny to see them run around being high af as they play music despite Ringo being in mortal danger. (Also the visuals we get each song just give me such a MTV vibe. Its genuinely beautiful)
Do you believe in McLennon?: *smirks at the camera*
General opinions on McLennon?: Oh boy. The Lennon/McCartney relationship is one that seems out of my grandma telenovelas. From Paris to the breakup, their story is one of up and downs, but they never really stopped loving each other. Not even death could stop their link as Paul still dreams of him and thinks about John when composing songs. I understand that not everyone may be convinced that something really happened, but I think we all should be open to the possibility.
If you got to change ONE thing about their history, what would be and why?: Brian’s death. The beginning of the end was the moment he passed away. With Brian the band would still have broke up (All things must pass, even the good ones), but it would have been less messed up. No Paul trying to take the lead a bit too much, Apple Corps probably being better handled and no Allen Klein messing up everything. (And probably no Yoko in the studio but that may be a bit of a stretch)
What song has the best vocals?: As a group, “Because” it’s probably the one. Such a simple, yet perfectly well put vocals. The peak of their talent for harmonizing in my opinion. In another side “Oh Darling!” is prob Paul best and John’s voice in “This Boy” always get me
What song do you feel had no effort put into it?: Prob an unpopular opinion but “Eight Days a Week” is such a basic song. It’s not innovative, it just uses the formula, and I feel like around this time the guys were kind of tired and just fabricated the song to be a single. It simply not feels genuine, and for me it shows the biggest problem from the “Beatles for Sale” era.
What is a well talked moment in Beatles history you genuinely believe to be false?: The way Yoko met John. The most known story is that they met each other at a Yoko art gallery, but many sources (such a Cynthia or Brian personal assistant) tell us a complete different truth. I do believe she knew the band, stalked John and force herself into his life, despite of the romantic tale she keeps repeating.
What is something you KNOW to be true, but often gets erased in their history: John. So many things about John. Many see him as only a funny character and ignore so many cues that he was a man struggling with his own self esteem to the point of having eating disorders. Not forgetting his fluid sexuality, the fact that many think that as house husband all his problems went away or that he was a wife beater. John was more than the “Imagine” martyr or  monster so many people (even some fans) make out of him.
Least favorite look from a Beatle(s): Ringo in the Help! movie. Horrible mushroom hair 😂
Favorite look from a Beatle(s):  George Harrison in the “Hey Bulldog”/”Lady Madonna” videoclip. (I also want that cherry SG Standard so bad omg)
I really don’t know how many others have done it but here are my tags
@rocknroll-imagines @moreofthatdrowse @cultofbeatle @joan-deserved-the-silver-hammer
Thanks a lot guys !! ❤✌🥦🐘🎵😎

The four of them sat drinking and laughing for a while, Ringo very much enjoying the relaxed atmosphere around them. Every so often somebody would walk past the table and say hello to them, never forgetting to make Ringo feel welcome. Whenever they asked for his name, they almost always had the same reaction of thinking he was some musician, which made Ringo feel a little bit like a celebrity. A few girls had seemed interested in him, asking whether he would dance with them later or join them for a drink but he'd made it very clear that he was committed to George. At one point George had egged Ringo on, perhaps to let him know that he wouldn't really mind if he danced with a girl, but Ringo didn't even want to entertain the idea - George had his full attention. Some of the girls were gorgeous, and two months ago Ringo would've jumped at the chance just to speak to them, but no part of him felt interested.
After a couple more drinks, several for John, the ceremony began and Ringo desperately wished they'd taken a table further away from the arch. This was the first time he saw Tony, who looked normal enough, but he had a strange air about him. They looked happy together, Ringo thought, but he couldn't tell sometimes whether Stephanie was smiling or grinding her jaw. Something told Ringo that they weren't going to have the most flattering wedding photos. Despite how unwelcoming Stephanie had been, he still felt warm at the sight of the two of them exchanging their vows and rings. The whole crowd cheered when the bride and groom kissed, some whistles and shouts breaking above the noise. Stephanie showed off the ring to the group of girls who began crowding towards the front, it had a ridiculously large gem on it which Ringo wasn't the biggest fan of, but each to their own he supposed. Then came for the moment when the bride turned her back to the crowd, clutching a grand bouquet of flowers in preparation to throw it behind her; the girls were getting a little aggressive over it, many of them trying to elbow their way to their front and squealing as though they truly believed this ritual meant anything. The flowers flew backward, rather sloppily on account of Stephanie's intoxication, and what happened next Ringo hadn't prepared for.
The flowers landed in his lap and the whole world seemed to freeze for a moment. There they were, sitting almost perfectly on his knees like this was some kind of sick joke, and Ringo's face turned almost as red as the roses before him. His eyes widened and mouth dropped open as he looked over at George who had a massive grin on his face. The crowd was silent, Stephanie glaring at him - if looks could kill, Ringo thought he would've dropped dead at that moment - but a raucous shout burst out not too far away from him.
"Fuck yeah, Ringo!" It was John, standing up abruptly and pushing the table slightly as he did, clapping his hands together and cheering.
Almost immediately everyone else replicated this, cheering and clapping for Ringo who was only blushing harder. He turned his eyes to George once more who pulled him close for a tender kiss, only spurring on the celebration further and intensifying Stephanie's anger. Ringo felt George's hand running through his hair, the other cupping his cheek delicately as their lips met and Ringo's head was swimming; it felt like a dream. After what felt like an eternity, the band struck up a romantic song so that the couple could enjoy their first dance together. Ringo pulled away later than he felt he should've, but it was hard to deny himself the pleasure of kissing George. The crowd's attention was fully on the newly-weds now which was a relief to Ringo who's face was beginning to return to its natural shade. Paul had a very pleased look on his face as the two pulled away from each other which made Ringo smile.
Ringo struggled to avoid thinking about the connotations of the whole thing, trying to focus on the fact they were just flowers, but his mind began running away with ideas of commitment. Granted he hadn't really known George that long, but it really didn't feel that way, and there wasn't anybody Ringo had ever felt so strongly about before, especially not this quickly. He didn't know what to do with the thoughts, it was probably best to leave them right now in case he ruined the lovely moment, but he had a feeling they were going to keep returning to him throughout the day. After a few minutes the song ended and the crowd cheered once more, the couple sharing a sweet kiss before other couples began to step out into the open space to begin dancing. The band picked up the speed with their music slightly, but some couples were still slow-dancing.
George stood up then and held his hand out for Ringo "Care to join me?" He said with a smirk.
Ringo took his hand excitedly and was led towards the array of couples, John and Paul slowly followed behind him as Paul struggled to get John on his feet. They moved through the crowd towards the back, closer to the large expanse of the garden, then halted. George let go of Ringo's hand then and moved it down to his waist, the other taking Ringo's second hand confidently while Ringo stood there looking confused.  He'd never really danced like this before, the girl's he met in clubs were more interested in having fun than actually being romantic. He looked up at George slightly lost who just chuckled at him.
"Put your hand on my shoulder, you melon." George smiled down at him and Ringo did as he said.
The feeling of George's hand pressed against his hip, slipping underneath his jacket and caressing the clothed skin, shamelessly excited Ringo. Slowly they began to move their feet, Ringo trying his best to follow George. It didn't take long for Ringo to get the hang of it and before long they were moving across the space with at least some grace. Ringo wasn't sure he really saw the point of it though, and if anybody but George had offered it to him he certainly would've refused it, but being able to focus solely on the other man, looking into his dark eyes as he moved along with his body certainly had its benefits. George gently drew circles on Ringo's hip as they danced, a few times he began to move his hand lower but corrected himself almost immediately, but Ringo wasn't sure it needed correcting. After three or four songs, the band took a quick break, which gave Ringo a chance to catch his breath somewhat. When the music finished, George captured Ringo in a kiss, moving his hand to Ringo's back and pushing them close together; nobody was really looking at them, they'd purposefully kept as far away from people as was socially acceptable, but Ringo couldn't help feeling somewhat exposed. George's tongue pressed into Ringo's mouth with a happy hum, his other hand going to Ringo's neck to kiss his deeply. Ringo could stay like this forever, or at least he'd like to but when George began to plant kisses on his neck Ringo had to stop him otherwise there'd be no turning back.
"All in good time." Ringo chuckled, rubbing his thumb on George's cheek which was reddening.
"Don't wanna wait." George mumbled, planting a kiss on Ringo's jaw.
"I know... Neither do I." Ringo breathed, lifting up George's face lightly and kissing him softly but pulling away before he could deepen it "But it'll be worth the wait."
George smiled at him weakly, Ringo could see the lust in his eyes but he was clearly trying to fight it. His gaze on Ringo was heavy, and it made him feel like he was going to melt, but luckily the band began to play again and saved Ringo from what felt like damnation. It was faster music now, more of the rock and roll that Ringo loved so much and a smile grew on his face as he recognised the song. This was something he was used to, and he was instantly more relaxed now than he had been trying to ballroom dance with George. The two of them loosened up, shaking their heads and twisting their bodies as they laughed and smiled with one another. Eventually they found Paul and George dancing, John occasionally giving Paul a messy spin or attempted dip and while Paul protested, it was the happiest Ringo had ever seen him.
A few of the couples and elderly people had sat back down now as the younger party guests took over the dance floor. They danced for hours, jackets were gradually discarded and tossed to the side as the sun's heat continued to beat down upon the avid dancers. The smell from the garden was sweet, and as Ringo danced away with George and his friends he struggled to think of anything that would've made the situation better.
During one of the songs, George pulled Ringo close to him and danced with him this way, either their chests or backs pressing together. At first it was rather silly, both of them laughing away as they continued to finish off glasses of champagne whenever they could get a hold of one, but it gradually grew more animalistic. George began breathing heavily in Ringo's ear, running his hands over his body and Ringo would extend out his neck so that George could kiss him there. They began sweating, George undid a few of his shirt buttons and Ringo gazed lustily at the sharpness of the taller man's collarbones. Ringo wasn't sure how long they danced like this for, but luckily they were hidden away enough by groups and couples dancing that they could get away with it. They kissed desperately between songs, hands pawing all over the other's body, and Ringo felt his head swimming.
Eventually the music came to a halt and someone announced that it was time to eat, so the dance floor quickly emptied. Ringo pulled George away, linking their fingers loosely together and they made their way back to the table. George rushed to make himself look presentable again, straightening his tie and putting on his jacket. Paul and John were already sat down by the time they got there, and Ringo could see some hickies forming under Paul's collar; it was refreshing to know himself and George weren't the only randy ones.
"How's the bread plan going John?" Ringo asked as he sat down, still a little short of breath.
"Well... I've drank quite a few by now, and I'm not really feeling that drunk." John said drunkenly.
"How many is quite a few?" George chuckled.
"More than 10... Less than 100." John smiled proudly.
"I've even lost count, that should tell you something." Paul said, he was resting his head against Paul's.
"Maybe the food will sober him up." Ringo suggested as the waiters began bringing the plates out.
The starters were delivered after a few minutes, it was some kind of fancy salad. Ringo was a little nervous about the whole eating aspect of it all, as it was difficult to know for sure whether his allergies would act up sometimes. Another daunting obstacle was the cutlery, there was far too much of it. Ringo looked over at George how a child may look at their classmate to copy off their test, and just followed his actions.
"No need to look so terrified." George laughed as he began eating "You've dealt with scarier knives, after all."
Ringo scoffed at the comment but George's dry humour helped him to relax somewhat. They got through the first course, laughing and chatting between mouthfuls, before the plates were collected and the next course was brought out. It was an array of seafood and Ringo let out a heavy sigh.
"What's up?" George asked quietly.
"I'm allergic to seafood." Ringo chuckled awkwardly. "But I don't wanna be rude."
George just smiled, taking his fork and picking off a prawn from Ringo's plate and putting it into his mouth.
"Lads, clear some room on your plates." George mumbled as he continued to eat, picking up Ringo's plate and sharing the food in between the three of them.
"I won't say no to some more scallops." Paul smiled sweetly, John just nodding as he stuffed his mouth with food and drink.
"If you're hungry later we can go out for something." George explained, handing Ringo his almost empty plate back.
"Thanks." Ringo smiled, taking a sip of his drink.
"You can thank me later." George winked.
Ringo felt his stomach stir, he tried not to think about all the ways he wanted to thank him.
As the sun began to set, all the dessert plates long empty and everyone was happily chatting away, drinking copious amounts of champagne and smoking. While it was starting to get a little chilly, it was still fairly warm and Ringo didn't feel like moving. The newlyweds had driven off to start their honeymoon an hour or two ago but the festivities had continued. A few groups of people had left and the band were performing their final songs before they called it a night.
"Wanna get another dance in before they head off?" George asked, cigarette sitting between his teeth.
Ringo nodded eagerly and they headed off once again. John had continued on his mission to drink into oblivion and while Paul seemed mildly annoyed, his affection never wavered. John kept rambling about how beautiful Paul was, how lucky he was to have him, which made the other man blush. Ringo had asked if Paul wanted to dance too, but he shook his head with a smile and said he had to stay to look after John. When Ringo looked back at their table as George carried him off, Paul had scooted his chair closer to John's and was resting his legs on top of him, practically sitting in his lap as he comfortingly whispered in his ear; it made Ringo happy to see them so enamoured with one another.
There were a few stragglers on the dance floor, either happy couples or extremely intoxicated people trying their best to remain upright. This time, instead of putting his hand on Ringo's hip, George just put both of his hands on his back and pulled them together, pulling up Ringo's hands to lace behind his own neck. It was still an adjustment for Ringo to be the submissive one in all this, not to say that he minded, but it was still strange to have someone assuming the more typically 'masculine' role. George's hands adjusted themselves comfortably on Ringo's back as the two of them began to sway to the music. Looking into his eyes, with the world darkening around them, Ringo felt like he was in a trance. It felt entirely magical. He could really appreciate George's beauty like this, and there was a lot to appreciate , and no part of him wanted to break their intense stare.
"Have you had a good time?" George asked in a hushed tone.
"Almost perfect." Ringo smiled.
"Almost?"
"Well the day's not over yet."
"And what a finale it'll be." George smirked.
"I sure hope so."
"There's no need to be nervous, you're in safe hands." George punctuated his words by dipping one of his hands into Ringo's back pocket, which gave him a start.
"I've been looking forward to it, quite a lot actually." Ringo admitted, letting his fingers play with George's hair.
"Have you got work tomorrow?"
"No... Why?"
"Good." George smirked "Just thought you might need the rest."
"Well you did promise to fuck my brains out. Am I remembering that correctly?"
"Don't you worry, Ringo. I'm a man who keeps his promises." George purred.
Ringo looked deep into his eyes and saw no sign of hesitation in them. He gulped, that familiar stir in his stomach rising up. The way George said his name like that was unfair, it sounded too good, like Ringo's name was made to come out of George's mouth. He expected that wouldn't be the last time George would be calling his name that night.

How BTS and Its ARMY Could Change the Music Industry
By Rebecca Davis
Tumblr media
It was just a year ago that BTS’ Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour was selling out stadiums all over the world. Each night of the 20-date trek, which grossed $116 million, a total of nearly a million ticket buyers around the planet witnessed a thumping opening liturgy at the top of the K-pop band’s set in the form of the song “Dionysus.”
As flames shot up from the stage, seven figures emerged in supplicant white amid Greek columns and a long altar. Rapper RM (full name: Kim Nam-joon) led the way, twirling the staff of the titular mythical deity, as group mates Jin (Kim Seok-jin), SUGA (Min Yoon-gi), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji-min), V (Kim Tae-hyung) and Jung Kook (Jeon Jung-kook) flanked him in a display of choreographed precision. The crowd, reaching peak pandemonium in a night full of deafening screams, made willing maenads and satyrs, transported by the band’s presence. An anthem about rebirth and self-discovery through the ecstatic collective experience of music was received as intended — as if from the gods.
Tumblr media
Idol worship is by no means a new concept in pop music — remember John Lennon’s provocative statement in 1966 that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus”? — but there’s something about BTS that turns fandom up to 11. The global brigade of BTS acolytes is collectively known by the acronym ARMY, short for Adorable Representative MC for Youth, a moniker chosen by Big Hit Entertainment, the company that launched the band. ARMY comprises the lion’s share of a Twitter audience that’s 29.2 million followers strong, more than triple that of any other K-pop group, and growing daily. BTS’ Instagram presence of 30.6 million followers (also rising rapidly), is trailed closely only by YG Entertainment’s Blackpink, at 29.3 million.
“It is because ARMY exists that we exist,” Jin says.
To understand the scope of BTS Inc.: An influential 2018 study by the Hyundai Research Institute estimated that the ripple effects from the boy band’s ecosystem contribute roughly $4.9 billion annually to South Korea’s GDP, on track to generate more value over 10 years than the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The study gauged that in 2017, one in 13 visitors to the country came for BTS-related pilgrimages. That ratio may soon be growing. Spotify has reported a 300% spike in new listeners to the group since the Aug. 21 release of “Dynamite,” BTS’ first all-English single.
The BTS boom has also driven Big Hit to launch an IPO in October projected to raise some $811 million. (Each BTS member will be awarded shares worth approximately $8 million.) Of Big Hit’s revenue in 2019, 97.4% was generated by BTS, including $130 million worth of T-shirts, cosmetics, dolls and other merchandise.
The numbers are no accident. The South Korean government began investing strategically in the arts and the digital economy to help steer the country out of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. On the heels of “Parasite” sweeping the Oscars, the worldwide success of BTS may be another sign to the West that Seoul might be the center of a new force in creative production.
Big Hit, and the K-pop music business in general, have proved just how much a band, and a company, can prosper through a direct-to-consumer relationship, driven by digital platforms and dedicated apps with lots of behind-the-scenes content that keeps fans emotionally involved. It’s engagement on a scale that no Western artist has ever achieved, despite decades of radio promotion and the best retail strategy.
For the global music industry, the band’s success has meant a serious rethink of how a record company — in BTS’ case, Sony Music’s Columbia Records, which distributes the group’s music in the U.S. (though the band is not signed to the label) — builds and maintains a fan base. You could almost look at it as a collaborative arrangement: As music is being made in real time, decision-makers and strategists at Big Hit and Columbia are taking in and processing the comments and views of ARMY and pivoting accordingly.
“It creates a self-sustaining engine that, eventually, becomes hits perpetuating more hits,” says Neil Jacobson, a former president of Geffen Records who runs Hallwood, a talent agency for producers and songwriters. “A label wants that fan connection happening all the time so that they can consistently release and promote music. But in the past, there had always been intermediaries that labels had to talk to in order to manifest exposure. Now, there is a mechanism for an artist to speak directly to their fans. That didn’t exist before, and it has turbocharged the process.”
It’s all led to this “Dynamite” moment: The single has sold nearly 700,000 adjusted song units since its release — good for a gold record certification by the RIAA. The song is quickly becoming the band’s biggest radio hit to date (without a featured artist, it’s worth noting), and represents a significant breakout beyond its core audience. After that, will Grammys follow?
“They check all the boxes,” says Jenna Andrews, the vocal producer on “Dynamite” who also serves as an executive at Sony’s Records label. “I’ve never seen anything like BTS in terms of singing and dancing. This is just an indication of what’s yet to come. They’re going to take over the world.”
Kathryn Lofton, Yale University professor of religious and American studies and author of the book “Consuming Religion,” says that the bond BTS has with its ARMY is different from the typical singer-fan connection because “BTS’ driving commitment is to their relationship to the fan group, to the manufacturing of their communal joy for you to participate in.” It’s why she views BTS as “a religious project; they are seeking to make a togetherness that you can’t stop wanting to be a part of.”
Lofton also makes a point of distinguishing ARMY from the groupies associated with Beatlemania. Sure, BTS fans know the hagiography and backstory of each member, but everything about the band’s output prioritizes the collective over the individual.
The band itself has certainly leaned into the comparison with the Fab Four. For instance, it re-created the iconic moment of the Beatles’ 1964 debut at the Ed Sullivan Theater last May on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” — in a black-and-white segment that showed the K-pop band performing as mop tops in tailored suits.
Tumblr media
But while John, Paul, George and Ringo had spotlight moments of their own, both within and outside the band — songs they wrote individually, causes they took up personally — with BTS, it’s all for one all the time. Unlike many other groups, the members share single, collective Twitter and Instagram accounts, and release even solo material through their shared channel. Accomplishments are never spoken of as belonging to any one group member but rather as the work of the team (and, of course, ARMY). In their videos, they often begin in solo shots but end up together.
This all strays from the typical tropes of Western boy bands including New Edition and ’N Sync, which have all proffered “star” frontmen. The thinking for decades had been that a record company would be lucky to have one breakout solo career among the bunch.
But BTS’ selfless approach didn’t happen randomly: The group was envisioned as a collective to heal the alienation that ails us in the digital age. Its name — “BTS” stands for Beyond the Scene — is an invitation to fans to join them offstage via almost daily video content featuring moments in their intimate if immaculately curated private lives on YouTube, Twitter and Big Hit app Weverse.
In 2011, Big Hit’s revenues from its then-main acts, Lim Jeong-hee and boy band 2AM, were plummeting. As the shadow of bankruptcy loomed, Bang Si-hyuk, now chairman, and Lenzo Yoon, global CEO, felt the company needed a total revamp. They stopped all normal work for months and called on employees to perform market research instead, seeking a new vision and formula.
Bang describes the conclusion they reached in a recent Harvard Business School case study of the firm written by Anita Elberse and Lizzy Woodham: “You would think that with the development of digital technology, people can come together more easily, but we found that it is actually more likely that people will feel more isolated. And so we need to find a way to help them, inspire them and heal them.”
Reflecting on the choice to develop a group that satiated this need, Yoon says in the study: “I think back then in 2011, with the conclusions we drew, we found the wild ginseng, as we say in Korea.”
On “Dynamite,” Big Hit worked with Columbia to further cultivate that ginseng. Pitched by Jacobson to label chairman Ron Perry, who guided and essentially A&R’d the song, worked to radio by Columbia executive VP and head of promotion Peter Gray (who has broken hits for Dua Lipa, Kelly Clarkson and Kings of Leon), and all overseen and informed by the years of management savvy of Big Hit, it’s the kind of artist development that was a music business calling card and that has lost its place in the fast-paced world of digital releases.
Radio exposure is not considered as impactful in Korea as it is in the U.S., notes RM, and so BTS — “maybe naively” — didn’t hit the ground in the U.S. thinking, ‘What can boost our airplay?’” the last time around. Still, RM notes that the band has “100% trust” in Columbia, Big Hit and the greater BTS community. “ARMY and the label are all trying their best,” he says, recounting how in the band’s early days, fans would send bouquets to radio DJs to get their songs on the air.
“Our goal is to try to show ourselves, expose ourselves to ARMY as much as possible,” adds Jin. “There are a lot of platforms now.”
In some ways, BTS’ ARMY has grown into its own force and brought the group along for the ride. In the world of K-pop, the expectation is that entertainers stay far away from politics, but as the genre has grown more global, it has begun to reach a transnational cohort to whom matters of social justice are top of mind.
When Variety broke the news on June 6 that BTS and Big Hit had donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter, BTS fans quickly flocked to #MatchAMillion through a link sent out by the fan charity Twitter account @OneInAnARMY. They hit the financial target in just 25 hours.
Tumblr media
Erika Overton, a 40-year-old Georgia resident and one of the co-founders of the account, says of the experience: “It was one of the craziest nights I’ve ever seen. I was on Twitter all night. We were refreshing the page every couple of minutes, going, ‘Oh, my God …’” Witnessing ARMY’s U.S. battalion bring the message of Black Lives Matter to fans in other parts of the world who were unfamiliar with the movement was a “big educational moment that was really, really beautiful to see,” says Overton, who is African American.
What Overton saw was facilitated by networks of fan translators who also turn Big Hit’s Korean content into dozens of languages. Other ARMY groups provide counseling or tutoring services, invent themed recipes or write informational threads on everything from the history of the music industry and how charts work to Jungian philosophy, which deeply informs the BTS albums.
Some fan accounts have even become registered nonprofits, with dozens of administrators spread around the world putting in nearly full-time work on top of their day jobs.
In addition to Black Lives Matter, BTS this year donated $1 million to Crew Nation, a Live Nation campaign to support live entertainment personnel impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. And it has continued its campaign with UNICEF to end child violence. But the band members are reticent to take on the role of global activists. “I don’t consider ourselves as political,” says Suga. “We aren’t trying to send out some grandiose message. We would never see ARMY as a conduit for our voice or our opinion. ARMY speaks their own initiatives, and we always respect their opinions, as we respect any other person’s.”
RM, on the other hand, keeps the door open for a kind of apolitical politics based more on actions than words: “We are not political figures, but as they say, everything is political eventually. Even a pebble can be political.”
The scale of its influence is not something that the group takes lightly. “Our [‘Dynamite’] video has seen 80 million, almost 90 million views in just a day. In a way, that’s very weighty — and almost frightening,” RM told Variety the day after its debut, explaining that the balancing act is often one of how to juggle the burdens of being both role models and artists.
Some Korean scholars feel that BTS’ statement in support of BLM shows how ARMY is actually out ahead of Big Hit, spontaneously enacting its own initiatives to which the company must then respond. “Big Hit thinks they can create a company-dominated [approach to] fandom, but fans are agents doing only what they want, not what they don’t want,” says ethnomusicologist Kim Jungwon of Yonsei University in Seoul. For Kim, the fluidity of ARMY’s unplanned, collective responses “is the possible answer to BTS’ success.”
Candace Epps-Robertson, an ARMY member and assistant professor of rhetoric at the University of North Carolina, says the affirmational content of the group’s lyrics and videos may sound simple, but lay the groundwork for millions of fans to learn to engage critically with each other and develop a transcultural sense of global citizenship. “The message of ‘you, yourself, are enough, and you should love who you are and start with that — I think people miss how radical that can actually be,” she says. “We can’t overlook the power of that as an invitation to people to be part of this community.”
The Grammys, where BTS is eligible for record of the year, among other categories (nomination ballots for the 2021 awards, slated to air Jan. 31, went out on Sept. 28), provide a chance for the group to gain industry recognition as a mainstream contender, not just a K-pop act.
Asked why the Grammys matter so much to them, Suga seems to bristle a bit at the question. “I grew up watching American award shows, so obviously we all know and I know the importance of the Grammys,” he says. “It’s a dream anyone working in music has.”
RM says having the goal of a Grammy, an industry-voted award, “motivates us to work harder. As Suga said, if you are in music, the Grammy Awards are something that you cannot help but to look toward and set as an eventual goal.”
BTS’ global influence will soon collide with national duty, and a Grammy Award or three could help maintain its momentum. The band members all have to participate in Korea’s mandatory military service by the age of 28 — and four of them are within two years of that threshold. “Big Hit really wants to target the Grammys before [the members] go into the army,” says an industry source privy to the company’s marketing plans, adding that, from Big Hit’s perspective, it would be best for business if the boys all perform their service at the same time.
The group renewed its contract with Big Hit in 2018, which commits the members to another seven years with the firm, but the army service issue could knock off two years within that time span. A company statement ahead of Big Hit’s IPO shows that Jin, the oldest group member (he’ll be 28 in December), must conscript by 2022 even if he gets an extension of the draft deadline. The statement discloses that plans to prerecord content to be released over the course of any army tenure are being discussed.
South Korea officially changed its rules in July to allow draftees access to once-banned cellphones on weeknights and weekends, meaning BTS could theoretically continue some interaction with fans. However, the taking of photos, video or audio recordings remains prohibited. (Historically, most Korean celebs have fallen silent during their service.)
Soldiering aside, with the push from Big Hit’s IPO, multiple TV appearances — including an ongoing weeklong takeover of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” — the chart success of “Dynamite” and growing Grammy buzz, BTS is poised to make some serious noise this fall, which is saying a lot for a group known to shake the decibel scale with a wave or a wink. But perhaps the most significant measure of its ascent is underscored by the frequent speculation of the band’s place in a new moment for the music industry.
“What would it mean not just to include the sound of Korea in the annals of world music, but to actually propose that the South Korean sound is the next chapter?” posits Yale’s Lofton. “What if BTS are actually the next Beatles?”

Hey could you write George being your college sweet heart? I’m cool with smut, I love your writing. Thank you ❤️
sweethearts
word count: 2k
summary: you and george are college sweethearts.
“Y/n can I please come over to study, I promise I’ll pay attention.” I rolled my eyes when George attempted to give me puppy dog eyes. We were currently outside eating with a few other friends, and George has been trying to convince me to let him over to study, even though I knew George couldn’t pay attention more than five minutes.
“C’mon y/n let the poor guy come over tonight.” John chinned in, wrapping an arm around George only for George to push him off.
“If you come over, we are finishing the psych study guide, no funny business.” Paul let out a giggle from beside me when I said funny business. I glared at him causing him to stop and continue eating. I glanced over at Ringo, maybe he would help me out, but he was too busy already doing homework. “The bell is going to ring soon, let’s get going Geo,” I said getting up putting my lunchbox in my bag, and going to grab George’s hand once I was done.
George walked me to class like normal, placing a kiss on my cheek before he left, even though he wasn’t the biggest fan of PDA he would still do small things for me claiming he just ‘couldn’t keep his hands off of me.’
-
"George, pay attention," I complained, as I scatted his hand away from my leg. George acted as if he didn't know what I was talking about.
"What?" George replied innocently and I rolled my eyes continuing my psychology homework, something George should also be doing but he hasn't written anything down since he's been in my dorm.
"George I will kick you out if you are not gonna do your work," I said sternly, but we both knew I wasn't gonna do that.
"Can I at least get a kiss?" He asked.
"No, George you need to pay attention, this is supposed to be a study date and you haven't done anything. At least do your work, and I may consider it." I said playfully, still not paying much attention to him continuing to do my homework.
"But y/n," he whined, and I shook your head. I was trying to pay attention, but George keeps trailing his hand up my leg, which I had to gently push away before I gave in looking up to respond.
"George, we have a test Friday, your grade isn't doing too hot, cmon pay attention," I explained, hoping he would at least get some of his work done, I don't even know why I thought this was a good idea, I should have known he wasn't actually going to work.
"My grade is doing just fine, just take a break." He laid his hand on my knee giving me a toothy grin, and I decided to not push it away, it was hard to resist George especially when he would flash me his award-winning smile.
"We have been working for maybe 15 minutes, just finish the study guide." I tried one last time, but I knew it was a losing fight.
"How about we finish it later?" He asked slyly, while he took my paper, and I rolled my eyes and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"And what do you have in mind that we do," I asked suggestively, already planting kisses down his neck.
"I've missed you, angel." He spoke delicately, and I laughed against his neck, looking up.
"You've been with me all day dork," I replied, giving him a little smile.
"You've been so busy with work," he frowned. "I'm glad you now invite me to study, but I'd rather be spending more personal time with you." He added sincerely, and I leaned up to give him a quick kiss.
"I'm sorry baby, I just don't wanna fall behind, and class has been stressful," I said, letting my head fall on his shoulder, hugging him close. George sighed, kissing my head while playing with my hair. His hands running through my hair. George placed his fingers under my chin to lift my face, I switched my position so I was now straddling him on the twin-sized bed. I kissed him roughly, pushing him into the bed grinding up on him softly.
George flipped me over, the position switching the position once again. His kiss was just as rough, his hands roaming my body, one of his hands going up my shirt, sending shivers down my spine on how cold his touch was. He disconnected our lips making me whine, and he laughed.
"Although I do love this outfit, I'd much prefer you out of it." He said, and I couldn't help but smile at the cheeky comment.
"How original," I teased. "I'm flattered, really." I continued as I sat up so I could take off my shirt, pushing off George so I could undress myself.
"Oh yes, I love it when you ruin the moment, dear." He laughed but started to get undressed himself.
"Oh, so we aren't fucking?" I taunted, pulling my shirt down, only for George to pull it over my head.
"Stop being a tease, it's not a good look," George spoke lowly.
"And if I don't?" I asked innocently, batting my eyelashes. He let out a little growl, attaching his mouth to my neck sinking his teeth in, making me let out short whimpers. I was going to say something but decided against it not able to focus on words. George's hands went behind my back to unclip my bra, sliding it down my arms. George continued to suck into my skin, definitely making a few marks, I'd have to find a way to cover them tomorrow.
Soon his fingers made their way to my jeans, unbuttoning them quickly. His fingers delicately rubbing against the fabric of my panties, causing my breath to hitch.
"George I'm not the mood for games," I complained, frowning at how slow his pace was.
"Oh really? It seemed like you were, with all that teasing." I groaned, regretting my earlier actions knowing George wasn't going to fully give me what I wanted, he would drag it out as long as possible. That did not stop the occasional moan falling from my mouth. He finally pushed over the fabric, his fingers touching my bare clit, it slowly making its way over my folds. He got his fingers wet from in between my folds, and moved back up to my clit, taking his sweet time.
"Georgie," I said with a shaky breath, throwing my head back in pleasure when he sped up his movements. His mouth found its way back to my neck, leaving, even more, marks scattered around, leaving some marks around my collarbone also.
"You're beautiful," George breathed against my collarbone, sending chills down my body. George always made me feel beautiful, even when he would tease.
“Geo, I’m not gonna last must longer.” I was able to say through pants, my eyes squeezed shut. George sped up his movements once again, and I held tight to the sheets, my body shaking underneath George as I let out George’s name on repeat. George normally rose out my climax but stopped after that, because then it was my turn to do something for him. However, George didn’t stop, and due to my clit being overstimulated it was sensitive, and I was still a shaking mess underneath his touch.
“You gonna be good for me princess?” Oh, so we are playing that game. I nodded, scared about how shaky my voice would be, that action only causing George to go faster. “You know you have to use your words doll, or else I don’t know what you want,” George said in a smooth tone. “Now I will ask again; are you going to be good?” He used a stern tone, however, it was still smooth and low.
“Yes, sir,” I said, although it was shaky, and a moan followed after it considering the situation. I could feel myself get close once again, and I tried to warn George but a wave of pleasure came over me. It wasn’t as strong as my last climax, but it still left me shaky and panting. George once again didn’t stop. I was completely overstimulated and on the verge of tears. George reconnected his lips to my collarbone, at first being gentle with his bites, but they soon became rougher, causing me to moan out in pleasure, and soon I climaxed once again.
“Alright, that’s enough of that baby girl.” He said removing his fingers, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
“Thank you, daddy,” I said out of breath.
“Of course baby,” he kissed my cheek. “Daddy is gonna get undressed now, do you think you could ride me tonight, darling?” He asked as he began to strip, I admired his body as he did so. I nodded but quickly corrected myself.
“Yes sir,” and he smiled at me.
“That’s a good girl.” He replied, giving me a quick kiss. He grabbed onto my hands positioning himself on the bed and guided me over. George was already hard, and I slowly applied myself to his length letting out a high pitched whimper as I slid myself down. George had his hands on my hips, helping to guide me down. I was still a bit overstimulated, so I was extremely sensitive but George let me take my time.
“Take your time, princess.” He spoke softly, once I finally adjusted to his length, I began to move. “You’re doing good baby, real good.” He praised, his hands still on my hips helping me move. George continued to praise me, a few curses and moans also leaving his lips. As I rode him, I began to trail hickeys along his collarbone so they were easier to hide for him. George let out soft moans when I would give him hickeys, only causing me to give him more, loving the sounds he makes. I soon found my g-spot distracting me from George’s next as I continued to hit it. George quickly flipped our positions, ramming into my g-spot, and I gripped onto his back my fingernails digging into his skin. My eyes squeezed shut, focusing on the pleasure. Once again I was a moaning mess shaking underneath George as I moaned his name repeatedly.
“Now finish me off baby girl.” He said pulling out, he sat at the edge of the bed, and I quickly got on the floor positioning myself on my knees. George didn’t give me much to adjust to his length as he did before. He had his fingers in my hair, and he pushed me down making me gag but quickly recovered. Fortunately, George did all the work, and soon he released his load into my mouth, and I swallowed proudly.
“Can we please get back to work now,” I said getting up so I could get dressed. George only laughed and pulled me onto his lap.
“Wouldn’t you rather cuddle instead?” He questioned, and I sighed.
“You are never allowed to come here to study, ever again.” I knew it was a lie, and so did George, I gave in to him too easily, but I didn’t mind. I decided my psychology grade would be fine, and I laid down with George, our naked bodies pressed against each other as we drifted to sleep.

jealousy
apparently, I have a lot of unposted stuff in my writing folder ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
* John’s are a bit longer because I combined it with a previous request for headcannons of John with a model gf
* sidenote for requests: unless otherwise specified I will use gender-neutral terms !
Tumblr media
John
the most jealous out of all the boys
will completely lose it if he even thinks that you are flirting with someone
goes off on the guy resulting in both of you having a yelling match
you have to pull him away before he throws a punch at the guy
one of the biggest fights you had, was about your modeling career
he nearly blew up when he saw the boys gawking at your racy swimsuit photos on the cover of the magazine
he snatched the magazine from their grasp and stormed out of the recording studio to your place
knocking harshly at the door, you could’ve sworn he woke up the whole neighborhood
starts going off about how you shouldn’t be doing that type of modeling when you’re together
"I’m the only one who should be seeing you like that”
both of you are stubborn and it takes a while for one of you to apologize (it's usually him that gives in)
he knows he can be a bit much and often tries to control himself but he doesn’t want anyone to take you away from him
“don’t forget who you belong to”
George
when he sees someone flirting with you he inserts himself into the conversation
proceeds to take all opportunities to insult them and be overly sarcastic
a big fan of giving you hickeys and often hides your scarves so you have to show them off
would be the type to have you sit on his lap anytime and anywhere
he gave you his old teddy boy leather jacket that he has you wear when you aren’t together
people tend not to mess with him (and by extension you) since he already looks like he’s angry all the time, him being quiet only adds to the whole vibe
Ringo
the type to sulk and ignore you when he feels you were flirting back with someone
tries to not admit that he is jealous but you know him well enough to figure out that something is up
when he gets like that you often pepper him with kisses and entwine your hand together/basically latch on to him
gets really insecure, your job often has you socializing with movie stars/other bands
you have to reassure him that he’s the only one for you
he also gets really clingy
would rather wait until both of you are back home or somewhere private so you can talk about it
Paul
gets jealous a lot
when you first began dating he was really clingy and possessive which caused a lot of fights between the two of you
he both loves it and hates it when you wear certain clothes, loves it on you hates the attention you get
eventually, he tones down the possessiveness but still can be a bit much
when both of you make public appearances will always be touching you from his hand on your thigh to having his arm around your waist
when someone starts flirting at you he would just glare at the person flirting with you from afar
if they don’t get the hint he basically drags you out of the situation
