The sad part is that I can actually see Napoleon doing some of these things, but something dies inside of me when I look at these.

The perspective is off the lineart is blurry because of editing it’s a mess. And I still want to include two more marshals (at least)

Napoleon defeated in Austerlitz by a drunk driver

So there was a roundabout they built on the historical battlefield of Austerlitz with a Napoleon statue.

And it didn’t survive a collision with a drunk driver. RIP wooden Napoleon. Was It you, Wellington?

For what actual reasons did Napoleon reinstate slavery?

Many.

1. Racism was at play. Napoleon didn’t own slaves. That doesn’t mean that he thought Blacks should hold the same status as Whites did in society. General Dumas was a general under his army and was Black but he wasn’t treated well by Napoleon.

2. Money. Napoleon needed funds to run his army. The colonies were required to send money back to France. Plantation owners were in need of workers, and hey, they liked the slavery set up just fine, and told Napoleon that they couldn’t sent the money if they didn’t have workers. I have also read that slavery was still being practiced before Napoleon officialized it again.

Mostly I’d say it was money and power that lead him to bring it back. Politics and power is all head and no heart.

I will also point out that Napoleon was friendly with the Black slaves on St. Helena, especially a man named Toby. He did remark on their treatment or mistreatment as it were. I believe he even said he regretted that he did reinstate slavery.

Does that absolve him? No. But like all things in history, it’s complicated to have a simple answer.

On Saint Helena, napoleon one time almost sank into quicksand of all things (it was an adult problem napoleon should have been aware of I guess)

He was helped out and cracked a joke about how if he had sunk, people would say he disappeared back to hell

But actually. That would’ve been the funniest ending to Napoleon’s story, especially if no one in his retinue knew/shared what happened to him.

Napoleon is sent to an island in the middle of nowhere, supposedly inescapable, and one day just…disappears. Nobody knows what happened to him.

The conspiracy theories would keep podcasters in money to this day. Did Napoleon actually escape and live in anonymity? Did his captors quietly assassinate him? Alien abduction, one man rapture, the discourse would rage

And meanwhile a middle aged man just stumbled into quicksand. We’d never know.

I wonder how it would’ve affected his legend…
