LETS TALK ABOUT TEEF

Side note: I’m using design and place ideas from several different continuities for two reasons: I like those versions best, and not all of these bastards are in RiD or Prime.

Other side note: some headcanons were built from reading specific fics, either by roundabout or directly correlated to, and will be credited at the end of the relevant section. Highly recommend them all, tho they are all just straight up porn😅

As it stands, there’s five groups I like to put fang types in (six if you count combined outlier types like Tarn and my Jeep Axle, but we’ll get to that later): Tetrahexan, Velocitronian, Warframe, Rodionite/Dead Ender, and Beast.

These are just where the style is seen most prominently, and most fanged bots from other places fall into one of these categories so it didn’t make much sense to split them any further. If there’s any offshoots you’re curious ab, feel free to ask!

Starting off with the smallest group, we’ve got:

Tetrahexan!

The nearly dead warrior race with a single canon representative gets its own type, why? Bc I gave him and my gal Cross Brace really cool teefers, and I think it separates them very nicely from the rest in more ways than one. Double why?

DOUBLE FANGS. AND SELF-SHARPENING.

Double fangs? Like, a set on top and a set on the bottom?

NO

Four true fangs on top, none on the bottom, made for the sole purpose of ripping through heavy armor with brute force. All four are thick and slightly hooked to better do their job, and so well sunk into a bot’s “gums” that it’s more likely to tear their own helm off than break one.

Thinking comparatively on the self sharpening, the other types of fangs are like needles or swords —needing some kind of outside source to keep them from going dull— but Tetrahexans have their own built-in sharpeners attached to their lower jaw.

Depending on the bot, it can either be a set of false lower canines that sit neatly between the front and the back fangs when the mouth is closed (Cyclonus, his false fangs are decently worn and curved outward a bit), or a set of indents that the teeth rest in like a knife block (Cross Brace, she’s absolutely terrible at not getting her lip stuck between her teeth and the slot). Both sharpen the fangs naturally as the bots open and close their mouths.

Like I said, there’s really only Cyc and CB to use as examples, but it works out bc they have the two different types split between them.

Moving on, we’ve got:

Velocitronian!

Bc I believe the zoom zoom bastards deserve them, as a treat. Also bc KO exists. He will be lending his service to us today alongside my lovely, spindly asshole, Coast.

The main thing that sets Velocitronians apart is they are what we would consider the baseline. They’re your average two on top, two on the bottom set that most would assume when thinking of fangs. Except that they’re really, really fucking sharp, and the rest of their teeth are basically just incisors, making their whole mouth like one of those guillotine paper cutters.

If guillotine cutters were made to chomp through as much thin plating and tubing as fast and clean as physically possible, which they Are Not, but these bastards are!

The fangs themselves are catlike, fitting together like scissors, and about average as far as fragility goes. Their purpose is simple: take as big a chunk off in as little time as possible without sacrificing momentum.

While most speedsters are built to be light, they’re also made to be aerodynamic and even, most importantly. Chomping off even a little too much from a competitor has the chance to give someone an edge, and while it’s technically not a legal move in racing circuits, you’d be hard pressed to find a bot that doesn’t do that shit.

Knock Out, unsurprisingly, is the textbook for Velocitronian fangs, well-maintained, sharp to the touch, and neat; my little whack job Coast, on the other hand, is all the way on the other end of the spectrum: crooked, chipped, and she doesn’t care as long as they’re sharp.

Moving away from city categories, we have a build type instead:

Warframes!

You love ‘em, I love ‘em, they’re great for size differences, and who better to use than THE Warframe, Megatron? Also, Blitzwing is here because this hc is ENTIRELY his fault.

Unlike Tetrahexans and their cannibal rumors (they weren’t), or the measures Dead End Rodions turn to for survival (more on that later), Warframes are actual bot-eaters. Or, at the very least, they’re designed for it.

Paired with a tank system that can break down just about anything and convert it into fuel and frame repair, Warframes have teeth that are built to kickstart the process.

Like molars mixed with sharp gears, Warframe teeth crush without care and interlock neatly for maximum crunch and proper mouth fit. Their teeth sacrifice sharpness, but it doesn’t really matter in the end when even the strongest plates crumple under the highest psi and thickest teeth of any other fang type (teeth tend to make up almost or more than half of a Warframes mouth).

While Megatron was the textbook average for Warframe fangs at the height of the war, years of getting his aft beat ended up warping his helm just enough that they never quite sat right, and after the war he ended up getting the edges flattened down to a less intimidating shape, though they’re no less dangerous.

Blitzwing, on the other hand…

Blitzwings teeth are just weird. The front’s fine, there’s nothing wrong there, but where the molars would be on a normal set, his teeth move. They’re set on a short track that churns them backwards like tank treads, adding to the level of rip-crush-tear he’s capable of.

Shifting back to cities, we’ve got:

Rodionites!

Plus their Dead End counterparts! Bc this is the best example of circumstance changing the fangs use. Drift was obviously first pick for examples, and Sweeper ended up tagging along bc I wanted more lore to give him.

By far, Rodionite fangs are the weakest type one can have. They’re long, thin, and shallow-set in front of the canine position like vampire teeth, more for show than anything. They tend to be so long, in fact, that it’s not uncommon for fangs to need special pockets in or below the lower gum line to properly fit. Due to their removability, they’re seen as highly customizable frame parts, sort of like body jewelry.

The one thing they are useful for, though, is piercing lines.

I’m sure you can see where this is going.

Dead End Rodionites do what they can to survive, and if it means sometimes siphoning energon from the already deceased (or still alive, depends on the bot) to keep going, it’s a price to pay. Other than that, most will either sell their fangs for a quick shanix, or lose them in any number of ways (fights, deterioration, thieves, what have you) over the course of their functioning.

Drift was one that managed to keep his —abnormally long— fangs from the start, and not even he is quite sure how that happened, considering both his history in the Dead End and the frame rebuilds, but he’s appreciative nonetheless. Sweeper, by contrast, quickly replaced his fangs with a shorter pair. He found long, needly teeth more a pain than anything (plus dust kept getting lodged in the resting holes) and changed them out not long into his first job.

Lastly, we’ve got my personal favorite:

Animal Based!

Not only does this encapsulate beastformers, but also whatever the RiD ‘Cons had going on, and will be explained as such by my beastformer and a RiD ‘Con, Richter and Steeljaw.

The main trait of this category is that it’s far more fluid than the others. If their frame is animal-inspired, their teeth will imitate said animal within reason, and with few exceptions (the exceptions are usually bug based). Their purpose is the same, function changing with the animal, and it’s all around a rather simple category to wrap one’s head around.

With Steeljaw, he’s got the standard teeth that a wolf might have and uses them in a similar fashion, they’re just more compact and human-looking to fit better in his mouth. Likewise with Richter, though his Sabertooth fangs are the ones he uses in alt, and stick all the way front to back through his helm instead of ending in the gum (they’re also technically removable, but leave an uncomfortably large nightmare hole through his head).

The unofficial Mixed category is a group of bots that, for one reason or another, ended up with two or more kinds of teeth in their mouths. Representative species are Tarn, bc I wholeheartedly believe that man would reshape his mouth hole to better imitate Megs (his original Velocitronian-type fangs and Warframe everything else, but it was a little shoddily done, so they don’t lock together properly.), and Axle, who…technically kept their —normal-sized— Rodion teeth, just added Warframe teeth to the mix in an attempt to ensure a meal at the cost of their frames nervous system and a few non-life-sustaining bits and bobs, but they’re fine. Probably.

I wish I could say my reasons for spending so much time on this were warranted, or that the length was reasonable, but no, all this shit came from a late night fic binge and my longstanding fascination with teeth and fangs. If you read this entire thing, know I am extremely appreciative ❤️😅

During the war, nearly every mech had some kind of frame modification at some point, either for weapon attachments or just to keep from becoming obsolete. At one point it was standard that bots had excess fuel pouches on their chest, but with the energon shortages from the war not allowing anyone to store excess fuel and the rise of MTO bots not being built with pouches at all, they fell out of style.

All that to say, on the lost light there's a day where Tailgate's running a little hot going too hard with his buddies and pops his chest plates to let his tits breathe and it makes everyone stare. For most mechs it's been forever since they've seen a nice pair of pouches and for others they had never seen any at all. Tailgate doesn't get what the fuss is or why Cyclonus is telling him to put them away, back in his day they were just a regular part of cybertronian anatomy. Swerve has to break it to him (tell him very loudly where everyone can hear) that the mod fell out of use and now the only mechs you ever see with pouches are shareware bots with pretty little pouches to show off to horny customers. Tailgate's huge naturals being a showstopper makes way more sense to him now, he's super embarrassed, but how was he supposed to know?

Tailgate is all bummed out later in his hab and whines to Cyclonus about it. He's not just upset he can't leave his chest playing open when he wants, he's sad he can't even share his excess energon with bots he cares for. Letting bots drink from your excess energon supply was a way to form strong bonds, it was a deeply connecting act that Tailgate can't engage with because he woke up outdated. Cyclonus can only listen to him complain for so long before he takes pity on Tailgate. Cyclonus never had frame upgrades or modifications, so he never got rid of his original pieces.

He pops his plating apart and offers to let Tailgate drink if it really means so much to him. Tailgate lights up at the offer and practically crawls up Cyclonus before the bigger mech just picks him up. Tailgate's mouth port was the perfect shape to fit Cyclonus' nozzle, it was even easier than using a straw for his energon. When he had his fill he would be sure to return the offer to Cyclonus, sharing your energon was a two way street after all. It definitely makes Tailgate feel closer to Cyclonus being held and allowed to nurse off of him.

yes! that's so good. i do love the occasional cygare content we get on here, they're so adorable. I do love to imagine that they're the two old rustbuckets with the oldest tits on the ship... if no one else will let Tailgate let his boobies breathe and help empty them, Cyclonus can help, just to make him stop whining. But really, he likes it. Tailgate is so small in his arms, fits perfectly in his lap, and that intake port has excellent suction.

Of course, after Tailgate has nursed from Cyclonus, it's only right he returns the favour and lets Cyclonus nurse from him. Which takes a little more convincing.

I like Shattered Glass Cyclonus' storyline in Fun Publications but don't think they went hard enough on the reverse characterization. He comes off as regular Cyclonus if he was capable of having a crisis of faith and a healthier sense of humor, but I want this man to be a complete nervous wreck. He can still plow his way through an army but he doesn't have to like it. He'll scream, cry, think about how badly he wants to go home, or all three, the entire time.

left is kinda-sorta his canon colors (apparently based off Hot Rod?), but got rid of the ugly dark gray, right is based off a color edit I did once that I thought was perfect for him.

IDW collection reading update! :^) 📖

Just finished Phase 2 volume 3! This volume included: The MTMTE 2012 Annual + issues 9-13, The RID 2012 Annual + issues 10-11, Signal to Noise and Spotlights: Thundercracker, Bumblebee and Megatron!

My thoughts will be below! ⤵️

MTMTE 2012 Annual:

Started off super wacky with Magnus 😂 Then got really interesting with Crystal City disappearing, The Metrotitan being underneath and the Galactic Council making their appearance! I liked how they tried to recruit Magnus and he said nah and smiled :)

RID 2012 Annual:

Absolutely LOVED the vintage/retro comic pages they did for the story/flashbacks of Nova's group!! Why so evil, but so cool looking?? I'm curious to see what all that with the Metrotitan and Starscream meant! 🤔

MTMTE 9-11:

Absolute banger. Probably one of my favorite stories so far!! I'm sorry but a murder mystery?? on Cybertron? in the past?? with stellar art!?! Sign me up any day.

Also it was great to finally learn more about Senator Shockwave and the rest of the Characters! Like Drift, Chromedome and Whirly! The back and forth with all the banter and the layers of fronts and corruption ahhh *chefs kisses*

Also I thought this ⬆️ was so cute bc it's a fact right out of Prowls characters bio/info sheet/page.

MTMTE 12:

This is the Surprise! Give you a mini heart attack issue lol Bc of my own silliness I was stressed the whole time reading it 😂 but it was really good!! We got to learn a bunch about Rewind. And that him and Chromedome are Conjunx' !! 🥺💞

This was a super fun issue! I'm absolutely loving all this Magnus character time!!

The Holomatter Avatars were pretty funny 😂 Whirl was too adorable and I thought it was really sweet that Magnus chose to look like Verity 🥺 Uncle Magnus misses his kid.

I felt bad for Swerve ;_; also I'm excited to see more from Cyclonus and Tailgate!! This ship is full of liars lol 😂

RID 10-11:

10 was an issue where Orion (previously Optimus) is currently hunting down Jihaxus to get answers for stuff and things. There is quite a bit of time jumping back and forth which always gets me confused 😂 it was interesting tho!

Issues 11 Starscream takes action against his Deceptibros (Just Shockwave, Soundwave and their posse really) and I really look forward to his team up with Prowl, if it goes anywhere from here! Also Arcee killing more people rip Ravage, Frenzy and those other guys 🫡 and a wild Megatron makes a reappearance?!?!

Signal to Noise:

It was a little Lost Light interlude! It was from Rung's perspective. I feel like I haven't seen much from him specifically so it was pretty cool and interesting :> Like everything, I'm curious to see where it goes!

Spotlights:

Thundercrackers was enjoyable! It just reinforced that he was good leaning, or at least not one for senseless violence. I really like him and hope he makes a reappearance! I'm curious what he's up to on earth

Bumblebee's was fine. Him struggling to be the leader and feeling like he has to prove himself, but getting the job done!

Megatron's was a banger. I absolutely love his monologs. What he thinks of his Decepticons and the 'Pep talk' he gave Starscream to get him back to his usual self.

Of all the storylines, MTMTE is still my favorite to read rn. I must admit, Rodimus tho is stressing me out as the leader 😂 I was gonna say my fav characters rn but, there are just too many haha

To explain this, there’s some background context I must first provide.

After the war, the former Decepticon Knock Out had fallen on hard times. He had a shiny new Autobot insignia, but many Autobots still viewed him as an opportunist, who had only changed sides after seeing which way the wind was blowing—something he himself had remarked on multiple occasions. For a time, he had worked as Trypticon’s therapist, but when the new High Council led by the incumbent Cyclonus decided to convert the Titan into a maximum-security prison, Knock Out was surprised to find himself blacklisted from any reputable job.

And so, to his future shame, he found a disreputable one. The mercenary Lockdown was hiring medical experts for a secretive project, and Knock Out had just the right level of experience—thanks to his involvement with Shockwave’s cloning projects. Specifically, Lockdown was looking to clone many of those Decepticons who had fallen during the war for Earth, using Insecticon cloning techniques as the basis of his work. Dreadwing, Soundwave, and Breakdown were all planned to be given new forms, new life… but the ultimate goal of the project was to resurrect Optimus Prime himself. Knock Out should have had his suspicions aroused by this, but he was blinded by the work. In truth Lockdown was a Decepticon working for Cyclonus: their plan was to use this Optimus Prime clone to further legitimize the Council, and bring down the Autobots by the hand of their former leader.

Now, to finally return to your question. During a battle on Earth, Bumblebee and his team managed to destroy the physical form of my sibling, Megatronus. Ordinarily, his spark would have returned to the Realm of the Primes, or the nearest convenient parallel dimension. But instead he found a new, unsparked body—one worthy to hold the spirit of a Prime.

Megatronus' spark flowed into the Optimus Prime clone, infusing it with life as Nemesis Prime. He thanked the creators of his new body by unleashing a storm of destruction, obliterating the secret cloning facility. Knock Out and Lockdown barely escaped, only to find the Council's guards waiting for them.

While they were arrested, Nemesis Prime took command of Lockdown's clone army of Insecticons, and marched out into the wilderness of Cybertron to perpetuate his own dark machinations. In the future, a new generation of heroes will set out on a perilous adventure, in the hopes of ending Nemesis Prime’s evil once and for all… but I believe that’s a story for another time.

During a pivotal battle that, in tfem, the Pack would lose, in the Tartarus au they win (with consequences to both sides) they somehow their way into building a harsh regime on earth, taking the planet over and creating a Decepticon Homeworld like Steeljaw wanted.

He granted (most) of the members of his pack high ranking positions, and Starscream is our air commander as nobody can do it better than he can. The Bee team (plus some additions, such as decepticons who exactly disagree with Steeljaw, iicr?) have become the Genesis Movement, with Bumblebee as the leader. Optimus is MIA iicr. Cyberton doesn't know what to do, they're not sure how to move against the (developing surprisingly quickly for million year robots) new decepticon empire, I'm imagining they were hesitant to restart the war out and out (plus there's still the situation with Cyclonus's team and all, I bet, the council is still. Something alright.)

Some of the familiar ocs and fankid ocs appear in very different ways in this au, especially say Starlight as she's the heir to the throne (and, considering how even in the Good Au that is tfem she's a menace... Her evil genius would develop in interesting directions in this darker atmosphere) there's also a few ocs who aren't familiar until now

And so, the war we've come to recognize changes its faces like a Quintesson, shifting but never truly ending.

Also, there's Goldenbite because Goldenbite is eternal in any au with them in it sgdggdd

None of these are going to be super super canon so bear with me. The Lost Light had made a stop at an organic-safe planet to pick up some supplies for you and explore around a little. However, everyone had to use their holo-forms as the planet was not very welcoming to cybertronians. You just so happen to read a poster of an upcoming party tonight and ask your robabe to help you get ready

MTMTE RODIMUS

Once you tell him about the event, he agrees to help you get ready and even asks if he could join you. I would be lying if I said he thought twice about it, he didn't.

The party is some kind of carnival taking place in the area you landed in, judging by the poster announcing it, it would be quite flashy and colorful. You go for some quick shopping at the local stores and Rodimus hands you anything you'll look good in (you get handed every article of clothing he likes, nothing matches btw)

you wanna try out outfits? He'll support every single one but gives his honest opinion when you ask for it, helping you decide on the final outfit

He helps you do your makeup and although you're the one doing most of the work, he's trying his best. So gentle while applying any makeup, he does not want to stab your eye or scratch you. Tends to get a little impatient but the results were so worth it, if you decide to go with colors that match his paint job he'll have a literal twinkle in his eye and a stupid grin on his face.

"How's that?" He backs away to stand beside you and admire his work. "Primus, you look really stunning."

HE IS YOUR BIGGEST FAN!!

Hyping you up the whole time. on his hands and knees. "Y/N your makeup looks amazing, that color looks so good on you, you're gonna kill it out there" He 100% suggests to roll down a red carpet for your entrance btw

Another one that would adore any type of matching color scheme,. If there's some type of theme for the ball/party he's gonna help you and somehow nail that theme, like, perfectly

Smooths out your clothes, gently adjusts your hair, then gives you a little kiss because wow you're glowing (is that the right word?)

Definitely the type to take you there with linked arms

MTMTE TAILGATE+CYCLONUS

Tailgate wants to go, Cyclonus is automatically going btw. Tailgate wants matching outfits

Tailgate helps you with your hair, Cyclonus with your makeup, and they both help out with your outfit and any accessories.

Tailgate is absolutely gushing over you once you're ready, literally leaping up In the air and twirling!!

Cyclonus using that poetic rizz to call you beautiful, pretty, handsome, a wondrous depiction of existence at its zenith-

yeah you go with matching outfits. At the ball you manage to dance with the both of them, cyc more graceful and tailgate a little clumsy but you all got the hang of it. You all have fun

some extra bit, i think the idea of a ball/party would intrigue the two of them. Cyclonus would greatly admire the elegant part of it while Tailgate would absolutely come up with a bunch of themes and parties they could have on the lost light. Its def an excuse to help you get ready again btw, Cyc is totally discreetly in on it
