Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Spread the self-love ❤
ONLY FIVE oh no LMAO To be honest I really love rereading my own stuff (it’s tailored to all my hyper-specific interests, after all! 🤣), so just picking 5 is hard, but I’ll try.
Redux Hero (FF7, Zack & Sephiroth, M) for sure! It’s a rewrite of the first fic I ever published online, and this time I finished it lmao FF7 has been such a big part of my life, so getting to be super indulgent with my headcanons in a big adventure story with my all-time favorite characters was such a joy to write. Plus I ended up with absolutely wonderful people hyping me up while I was working on it! And it helped me with processing some of my own personal shit. I could write a whole other book about how happy writing this one made me lol
Poster Boy (FF7, Zack/Seph or Zack & Seph, G) - This was my first Seph & Zack fic where I really felt like they matched my headcanon versions of them, to the point that if I’m having a bit of trouble with new fics, I like to reread this one to kinda get back into the right mindset. Like a voice actor having a key phrase to get into character, I guess lol Plus it’s just short and cute, so it’s a nice, quick, pick me up if I’m having a rough time writing.
What Lies Beyond the Lily of the Valley (FF7, Zack & Seph, T) - this one is close to my heart, since it acts as somewhat of an homage to the old FF7 fics I used to read as a kid Namely, “Lily Valley” by LuckyLadybug. That fic (and a lot of her other fics tbh!) really inspired a huge, huge love of Sephiroth and Zack just going on missions together. No big catastrophic, world-ending threat; just the job. Being friends. Uncovering horrible secrets and organizations that aren't Shinra. Or, as is the case with my fic, the two of them uncovering a whole undiscovered realm that, by the end of, they want absolutely nothing to do with LOL I had so much fun with the fae shenanigans.
FFS, I Believe in You (Breath of the Wild, Sidlink, T) - MY FIRST FINISHED FANFIC LOL and also just the goofiest thing from start to finish (minus the Angst, there is definitely also Angst). I feel like this one really helped me learn how to make notes and actually construct a whole multichapter. It also forced me to learn how to write in iambic pentameter, which. Is that useful? Idk. Is it funny to me personally? Extremely so, yes. I didn’t really participate much in fandom before this fic, so it also ended up being an amazing opportunity to meet some incredible people, and coaxed me out of my lurker shell a bit lol (Also I don’t think I’ll ever beat this one in kudos, with any other story, which is just gonna make me laugh forever because SHAKESPEAREAN LIZALFOS??? THAT’S the most popular one I’ve written?? Understandable, I wouldn’t have it any other way LMAO)
Out of My Head (Venom (Marvel Comics), SymbiOT3, M) - I really let loose with this one and ended up using a lot of writing techniques that I still use in my writing today. Most especially, not feeling guilty about shorter chapters lol It’s at the top of my list for revisiting if I can ever get my brain to fixate on Venom again, because dammit I had two other arcs planned aaaaaaaaAAAAA— hopefully someday. RH did get a rewrite after uh, 9 years, after all;;;;;;;
This was fun, thank you Holly!!
(also meant to add: my favorite thing about All the fics I've written to date is all the awesome friends I've made through them 💖 it's so cool to me how writing silly stories about my blorbos has helped me meet some of my favorite people ever)
#ask#my fic#rip to all my unfinished witcher fics lmfao#honorable mentions go to Lasting Impressions for FF7#and Depends On Your Definition for Venom (movie 'verse)#the first because meet uglies are so funny to me#the second because it was just EXTREMELY wacky and fun to write about obscure and poorly named Spider-Man villains lmfao

1, 7, 14, 18, 26, 37, 55 and 76 (this one specifically about rh) for that fanfic ask post
1 Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?
Multi-chaptered. It's very rare for me to do one-shots, but I wanna look more into them because they're a lot simpler to make. I just really like the progression in multi-chaptered fics. 1000noches is kind of both, as its has "chapters" but it's an extremely short and simple story.
7 How do you choose which POV to write from?
It depends on the scene, which character needs to be developed more, and which character does most of the action or undergoes the biggest development.
For example, picture a scene where Alice tells Bob a secret she's been hiding. If you want to focus the scene on Alice opening up, you write from her POV. If you want to focus on Bob's reaction and how he feels about the secret, you write from his POV. I also recommend Alice's POV if the reader already knows about that secret, in which case we'll probably find Alice more relatable since we know the same information as she does. If we don't know the secret either, we're more likely to feel like Bob.
As another example, if a character has to "learn a lesson" in a scene, and we are meant to experience that lesson too, we should be on the POV of the character who goes through that lesson.
Or at least that's how I feel. I also personally avoid writing from the villain's POV for *too long* unless they're meant to be sympathetic - I often handle their scenes from their henchmen's POV. If they're "irredeemably evil", too much immersion into their POV might make them feel like they need positive development - or is this just a me thing? Oh, unless the villain is comedic and cartoony like Bowser. Then go ham.
14 how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?how do you write emotional scenes?
Oh, ho ho. Yeah? Yeah. Yeah I do. I kind of try to imagine how I would feel, then code it through the character's own personality and background. And sometimes I've noticed my eyes getting wet. But I've recently become the kind of person who cries at movies sometimes. I think at times I almost cried during the fucking Mario movie. When Mario and Luigi reunite. Them feels...
And... yeah. I get sort of inspired by my own experience but I morph everything so it doesn't become the story of my own life. I try to not to indirectly reference real people or real events I've gone through. A good example is Bruno's silent panic attack in chapter 4 due to his bad grades. It was inspired by one time I realized I had to repeat a whole year and cried my heart out at the high school bathroom. Writing that scene felt incredibly cathartic, and it weirdly helped me find some closure after some complicated years.
Something I've noticed about emotional scenes is that they usually need buildup. In order for us to care about a character, we need to through a journey with them, get to know them. Emotional resolutions become more poignant when there's some story building up to it. In book 1 it's gradually hinted at that Briana is not yet okay, and though I feel I should tweak some of the buildup, when it all breaks down in chapter 9, it breaks hard because it's been bubbling up for six or seven chapters. Maintaining a certain degree of relatability, without hammering the point home over and over again, is key, or else we won't connect with the emotion and the scene will either feel hollow or cheesy.
18 Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?
Honestly... before. I'm such an avid pre-planner with my stories, that I usually have a draft of the whole plot, a title, a theme and a bunch of characters before I even start actually writing.
I don't really know how I come up with them. I usually try to think "is there a theme running through the story?", "what kind of feel do I want it to have?", "can I sum it up in two or three words?"
I usually try to make my titles: memorable, concise, descriptive, distinct, searchable (!) and honest.
Oddly enough, my only regret with Someday as a title is... how common it is as a word. When I search "yume nikki someday", sometimes I get lots of "oh I'd love to play Yume Nikki someday but i don't have the time right now" and stuff. Since thing happened infamously with Digimon Adventure's 2020 adaptation, called... Digimon Adventure:. Yes, with a colon. And you don't pronounce it. You're supposed to just say "Digimon Adventure" out loud. The colon also doesn't show up in some places, such as a hashtags, so when you search the adaptation online, you find the original from 1999. Terrible choice.
By "honest" I mean, make sure the title actually has something to do with the story or theme. SO many books have the word "devil" in the title to make them more intriguing and marketable but they're just random thrillers or something. For me, two to three words is the key, even better if they can be hashtag'd. Make it relevant to the story or themes, make it pronounceable!!! A lot of people keep calling Digimon Extend "Digimon Extended" for some reason. Really, keep it simple, people don't have good memory. (?)
26 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
1000noches (La noche de las mil noches), for real. I wrote it in a month, one chapter per day (each chapter was about a page long), then I illustrated it, one drawing per day, I posted once a day, I ATE Shinanne's Digimon 02 meta at a breakneck pace and literally changed my entire perception of Daisuke while I wrote it. It was made in a frenzy and it's my most successful fanfic yet. But then again, it's short, simple, and it features popular characters.
37 How do you choose where to end a chapter?
Well, I usually try to center each chapter around a theme. My biggest two examples are Extend and Regulus Harbor. In most of their chapters, the theme is either a confrontation or a lore revelation, or an introduction, or characters coming to terms with something. I like it when you can call a chapter "the one where X happens" in just one sentence.
But I don't think I'm that great at deciding what should go in each chapter... I often just add scenes in order until I reach 15-20 pages because it's the chapter length I like, but this is very arbitrary. Sometimes I have to move scenes to the next chapter because of this... often these haphazard chapters are the ones without a main confrontation going on.
In Digimon, setting up a chapter flow is easy. You introduce some concepts, have a bad guy of the week show up, fight, advance the plot in some way, then point towards the next step.
In Regulus Harbor, I've noticed I usually do it roughly by going through one day chronologically. Which means that chapters often begin with Itsuki or Danny (more or less diurnal charas), and end with Lydia, Fermi, Gakkoros or Jokesta (nocturnal charas). I also like to have an introductory scene and an outro/cliffhanger scene that shows where the plot is headed next.
55 Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones?
I absolutely adored writing Goupemon and Blightmon, the villains, back in Digimon Extend. And also Sketchmon, the comic relief. In Regulus Harbor, I love writing Gakkoros and Jokesta, the main uh... antagonistic force? And also comic relief kind of. But I also love writing Danny because he means a lot to me, he's one of my oldest OCs. And of course, my boy Itsuki. I think Jokesta is my fave to write. That has been amplified by my readers' reactions to my comedy scenes... apparently I'm good at writing random comedic characters!? Says a lot, huh. I wonder how I learned that. (Please watch Nichijou.) Usually my favorite characters to write are my audience's favorite characters. Can you guys tell I'm having a great time or...?
76 Did you have any ideas that didn’t make the final cut of [Fanfic Name]?
I know this one's for RH but I'll do it for Extend too. I had this mini-arc at the beginning of season 3 where Monmon and her three uh... former family members...? would be sent to different universes along with the protagonists. I don't remember why I wanted to do it. I also cancelled a lot of stuff season 2 was supposed to have - more Armor evolutions, more time for Iván to shine in his "evil self" (?) but halfway through I realized it was getting stale so I cut all filler and went straight to the endgame before Goupemon's return. Oh and also Goupemon was going to be semi-redeemed - Pandemmon was going to be the final boss. There was also going to be a meeting with the 02 cast full of mistranslation moments.
As for Regulus Harbor, it was originally going to have 14 Reached, and Lydia didn't exist until very late in "production". Before I came up with Fermi, she was supposed to have an unrequited crush on Danny, which is why she acts so weird around him in chapter 1, and why Fermi isn't there yet. I retconned this as Lydia just being really giddy about finding a new Reached with potential and not having to rely only on the children.
Regulus Harbor actually has... tons of scrapped ideas behind, mostly leftovers from when it was a... Spyro fanfic idea? Mixed with an AU with a small Digimon cameo? The original idea was a fangame-type story based on Spyro: A Hero's Tail with 14 player characters with different elemental powers. The 14+2 element symbols are here. You may recognize these symbols as they were used for a map in my game, 311. This was [REDACTED] believe I came up with it so long ago. The scrapped elemental powers are Rock (merged into Earth), Space, Qi (merged into Life), and Crystal (will appear not as an element but something else :3).
The AU thing had a cameo from Devimon... who absorbed the power of all Dark Gems in the world (this is a Spyro concept, there were 40 in the game + 150 in my story +10 more in the AU) AND this was the original idea for Gakkoros!!! YEAH. He would eventually become something like "the incarnation of darkness itself", called Darkuro back then. Again, YEAH. It was 2007... Also, a character based on Ophanimon, called Lishiro (later Ilendora) would try to purify him, and I kept changing Darkuro's redeemability. Deciding on a final veredict took me years, and so far I'm really happy with the result.
Ishmael was going to be a human, powerless incarnation of Gakkoros, trying to get his power back. RH was going to take place in New York in real life, only with humans, all of them coming from different places in the world. The cursed mirror idea is actually very old, from ~2010 probably.
Itsuki's inclusion in the story was extremely late, not decided until 2018-2019. An old OC named Nano, the oldest character of ALL of them, created around 2005, was going to be there instead. Nano's personality was divided into Panuk and Itsuki. Interestingly, you can see a door representing him in Someday's Meta-Nexus. All of the Meta-Nexus doors represent OCs from different stories in different universes, most of which I didn't write at all. Panuk's door is actually repurposed from Víctor's, from Digimon Extend. I've actually been thinking of replacing one of the doors with a new one for Víctor or Joaquín, since it was for a Homestuck OC... and I'm so over that phase :')
There are more unused ideas but I still have them around my head just in case I do use them.
Also, if you've read a11 of this, uh, yeah! Thanks! And you're welcome. ???

Chapter 9: Shadow Boxing
Diyoza observed the array of drinks at the bar for a moment before ordering a whiskey and putting down a wad of cash beside it. At Shaw’s confused look, she smirked. “For the bet.”
“Speaking of the bet, where’s Bellamy?” Lincoln glanced around. “Isn’t he supposed to be hosting this thing?”
“I don’t know,” Jasper’s brow furrowed as he tried to recall. “Actually, I haven’t seen him in hours. He helped set everything up and then he told us he was running an errand and as far as I know he hasn’t been back since. He didn’t say anything to you?”
Both Octavia and Lincoln shook their heads, and Diyoza threw back her finger of whiskey before she said, “Nope.”
“Weird,” Jasper pondered as he poured her another.
“Speaking of Bellamy, is it true he’s bringing his wife to this thing?” Shaw asked.
Diyoza choked on her drink.
Lincoln patted her on the back while she coughed and Octavia looked like she was trying to hide a smile behind her daughter’s head. “Uh, yeah, she’ll be around here somewhere.”

Mr. Gallagher and Me
Jim x Reader
Playlist Chapter 9 Masterlists
Chapter 10
Y/n and Jim have their first prenatal appointment, which dregs up some unpleasant feelings for one. Warnings- mentions of medical tests
Early December “Feeling okay?” Jim probed quietly as they sat in the private clinic’s waiting room, holding her hand with one of his, while soothingly rubbing the other up and down the top of her back. There were two other couples in the waiting room, along with a woman who’d come on her own, Y/n wasn’t really paying any mind to them though, she was much to focused on trying to quiet her own nerves, bundled in her stomach and worsening the discomfort of morning sickness- she hated that it was called that, especially since she’d been up almost all night.
“Yeah,” she smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder, “I’m just nervous…..and excited,” she really was, it was the first time that they’d see their baby and hear the heartbeat and Y/n was desperately hoping that everything would go well, “I just want them to be okay, you know?”
“I know,” Jim kissed the top of her head before resting his cheek there,”But its gonna go well, I know it is.”
Glancing at him, Y/n smiled tightly, nodding, and just then, a young nurse emerged from the hallway off to the side calling Y/n’s last name. As they stood, Jim offered her hand, still clasped in his, an affectionate squeeze as they followed the nurse.
Before they met the doctor, the young nurse quickly helped them fill out medical history forms for both of them, asking more questions that Y/n could have probably thought of on her own. Afterwards, she asked a couple more that would help the doctor determine the conception and due dates before leaving the room just as a woman in a white coat thrown over her scrubs walked in.
Polite introductions were traded before Dr. Shaw got seated at the desk, quickly looking over what the nurse had written down on the forms, “Okay,” she flipped through the pages and Y/n felt herself relax a little when Jim reached for her hand again, “So Ms. Y/l/n, I see this is your first pregnancy, congratulations. Your first too, Mr. Gallagher?”
“No,” Jim answered quickly, his own nerves shining through in his tone, “I actually have two teenagers,” he smiled tightly,
Dr. Shaw chuckled, teasing lightly, “You must have thought you were done huh?”
“I did,” he admitted truthfully, “But I’m glad I’m here with her,” he quickly kissed Y/n’s hair, the gesture meant to reassure her that he was still okay with them having a baby.
“So I see you told Nurse Brennan that this wasn’t a planned pregnancy, which is fine,” she reassured, “But that just means I’ll be doing a few extra tests. They’re nothing to worry about, but being thorough is a huge part of good prenatal care.”
Y/n swallowed thickly, glancing at Jim for reassurance before nodding, “Okay. What kind of tests?”
“Great question. So first we’re gonna do a regular check up, then we’ll do a blood draw so we can test for things like anemia, your immunity levels and your Rh status. After that you’ll have to pee in a cup,” she huffed a chuckle when Y/n cringed, and blushed, a little unnerved by the fact that Jim had to hear that. Noting her reaction, the doctor smiled, “If you’re gonna have a baby with him he’s gonna have to hear these things.”
“Its fine,” Jim brought his lips close to her ear, “This stuff is routine, you don’t have to be embarrassed.”
“Right,” Y/n nodded nervously.
“Right,” Dr. Shaw repeated, flashing her a matronly smile, “I’ll administer a pregnancy test and then we’ll send the urine and blood to the lab, you should get those results in about two or three days. Oh, and we’re also going to be doing a pap smear- like I said, nothing to worry about, we’re just being thorough, and then we'll get to everyone’s favorite part, the ultrasound.”
After the routine check up, the pregnancy test to confirm that she was expecting, the urine collection and the blood draw, Dr. Shaw had asked Jim to leave the room for the pap smear. It had taken as long as it usually would, and was painless albeit a little uncomfortable. When it was over though, Jim had been allowed back in as the technician set up the ultrasound machine. “Ready?” She met his pools of blue expectantly, just as he laced his rough fingers with her soft ones.
“Yeah,” he smiled breathlessly, reaching out with his free hand to caress her temple, “I can’t wait to see that little us.”
“Me too,” Y/n beamed, bringing her free hand to her stomach, “I can’t believe there’s a person in here,” she giggled softly, “Half you, half me. The best parts of us.”
“The best,” Jim repeated, tone low and he briefly bent his head to capture her lips in a saccharine endearment.
“Hate to interrupt you love birds, but it's time for the scan,” Dr. Shaw interjected, turning on the monitor and fitting her hands into a pair of gloves, “So I don’t think I said this earlier,” she sat on a tall, swivel chair, adjusting her posture as she spoke, “But from here on out, there are gonna be some appointments that are more important than others, which means you don’t necessarily have to be here for all, dad,” she glanced at Jim, “But its obviously a personal choice.”
“Oh, I’m gonna be here for all of ‘em,” Jim chuckled, “I don’t want to miss a thing.” When he said it, Y/n felt her cheeks split; despite his former stance of not wanting more children, Jim had quickly and easily slipped into the expectant father role, always eager to help where he could, adamant on keeping tabs on her symptoms and now promising that he was going to be there for every single appointment.
The doctor nodded, maintaining her smile as she continued getting everything ready for the ultrasound, “So, Y/n, when I put the gel on you, it's gonna be a little cold, but I promise you its not as bad as they make it seem on TV, it's actually just a little uncomfortable but it's worth it because you’re getting to see your baby for the first time.”
As Dr. Shaw got the bottle of blue gel opened, Y/n adjusted the hem of the pale blue paper gown that one of the nurses had given her. She’d gotten back into her leggings after the pap smear, and so after she'd gotten the paper gown up, Jim helped her fold the waistband of her leggings down to expose her unassuming stomach-she hadn’t started showing yet, but jeans had become extremely uncomfortable recently, making anything with some stretch her best friends.
When Dr. Shaw squirted a generous amount of the chilly substance a couple inches below her belly button, Y/n gasped sharply but didn't react any more than that. Next, the middle aged doctor cleaned off the transducer just as the machine came to life with a hum.
"Alright, so here we go," Dr. Shaw announced brightly, pressing the device to Y/n's stomach and as an image appeared on the screen, both she and Jim shifted her gaze there. Besides the sound of the doctor’s hand guiding the transducer around being translated to the screen and speakers, there was nothing at first, and immediately, Y/n had started holding her breath while Jim still seemed brightly expectant.
After a few minutes of nothing, Dr. Shaw furrowed her brows, shifting the device around again as she simultaneously tapping a few buttons on the keyboard and pulse controls. "Is everything okay?" Jim reassuringly squeezed Y/n's hand, his free one falling to her shoulder to repeat the soothing gesture there, and when their eyes met, she finally saw her worry reflected in them.
"Uh, yeah," the doctor chuckled nervously, "This machine is pretty new and even though its set up perfectly we still have toy with the adjustments sometimes. I'm sure we'll find your- there we go!" She declared triumphantly when finally, the sound of a steady heartbeat interrupted the tension.
"Oh, thank God," Y/n heard Jim rasp below his breath, just as Y/n shed a couple tears of relief. "Do you hear that?" He grinned as he pecked her forehead dotingly.
"I do," Y/n nodded tearily, and once more, they both looked to the monitor, where a tiny form had appeared, looking more like a kidney bean than it did a person, "Is that our baby?"
"It is! Good eye, mama," Dr. Shaw praised excitedly, "This is your little one," she used her finger to draw a circle around the little bean shaped person, "Its a little too soon to pick out any defining features and the sex, but development's looking pretty good. And I’m gonna say you’re about nine weeks in."
Y/n simply nodded and much too eager to raise off the exam table a bit and get a clearer look of their little one, she completely missed Jim's sharp breath at Dr. Shaw's estimation. Enamored by the little, grainy image on the screen, it took Y/n a full five minutes before she even started returning her attention to the doctor,“So my due date…..?”
“Well, based on when you told me your last period was, and the size of the fetus right now, we’d be looking at the first week of October for your conception window and a July twelfth due date. But,” Dr. Shaw emphasized pointedly, “Due dates are just estimations, your baby will decide when they’re ready,” she smiled warmly, “And if you ask me, first babies usually spend a little extra time cooking,” she winked.
Y/n laughed softly, the sound turning awkward upon realizing that Jim had completely zoned out, “You okay babe?” She squeezed his hand to get his attention, and when Jim looked at her with wide eyes and raised brows, she frowned a little, “I asked if you were okay,” she explained.
“Oh, yeah, no,” he shook his head dismissively, “I’m good, just got a little lost in thought.”
As a gnawing feeling of dread plumed in her stomach, Y/n attempted to push it away, easily accepting that he’d just been a little distracted. “Okay,” she shook off the matter and smiled tightly. After Dr. Shaw organized to have two prints of the ultrasound done as well as had them sent to both their phones, she handed Y/n a paper towel to clean the gel off her stomach, and while she did that, Jim collected her blouse off the nearby chair, opening it up and offering it to her after she’d come down from the exam table.
Before she headed to the bathroom, Y/n offered Jim a cautionary, backwards glance, sucking in a breath when he didn’t return it. It was like a flip had been switched; he’d suddenly become distant and she couldn’t fathom why. From the minute Dr. Shaw had told them that she was nine weeks along and given them the approximate conception date, he’d completely pulled away- not physically, because he’d still offered his hand to help her down from the exam table and when she’d finished changing, he was holding her handbag and coat, waiting for her, but he was much quieter than usual. He hadn’t asked Dr. Shaw asked any questions, barely paid attention when she started to explain that even if it was early, they should start thinking about what the birth plan would look like and then had blindly agreed when Y/n had said that they’d call to make their next appointment.
As they’d left the small, private clinic, Y/n had tried to stir up a conversation once or twice while they were in the car, driving back to his apartment but Jim hadn’t been very responsive, offering at most, one liner responses and at the barest minimum, hums of acknowledgment, By the time they’d gotten to his building, Y/n was beginning to worry that he really was having second thoughts about her and the baby, or worse yet, had started questioning the conception date, which was unbelievable considering he was the only person she’d been with since she’d been living in Ireland. Y/n simply couldn’t figure out what was going on in his head.
As they entered the apartment though. Jim dropping his keys in a bowl by the door and Y/n shrugging off her jacket, she found that she was much too tired to keep thinking about it. Stifling a yawn, she shook her head in a fruitless attempt to shake off the fatigue. “How am I already exhausted and it's only noon?” Y/n groaned as she entered the kitchen and grabbing a glass to fill it up with water.
Much to her surprise, and relief, Jim chuckled as he came to stand beside her, affectionately rubbing his hand up and down the small of her back, “Because you were up all night and you’re growing an entire person,” when Y/n hummed as she washed the glass and turned it down on the counter, Jim added, “How are you feeling after last night, still nauseous?”
“A little, but I’m a big girl,” she reassured, leaning her hip against the counter as she turned, “Are you sure you’re okay?” She searched his eyes as her arms went around his neck, trying to find a reason for his distance in them.
“I’m fine,” he stressed with a halfhearted smile, “Why don’t you go lay down for a while, try to take a nap?” Jim pecked her forehead, his hands still soothingly roaming her back.
“I think I’ll do that,” she smiled softly, leaning into his chest as she stood on her toes before bringing her lips to his, “Come to bed with me?” Y/n pouted upon breaking their kiss, “You were up with me,” she enticed, tips of her fingers curling in the ends of his hair.
“Maybe I’ll join you later,” he kissed her quickly, “I’ve got papers to grade.”
Y/n furrowed her brows, her smile drooping to a frown, which Jim attempted to right by gently grazing his thumb along the corner of her lips. “Okay,” she relented after a moment, and when they released each other, she slowly started towards the bedroom, frowning when Jim slipped his hands into his pockets as he turned away, heading toward the dining table, probably lapsing into thought once more.
It was late evening when Y/n finally trudged out of Jim’s bedroom, dressed in the loose, comfortable shorts and tank top that she’d changed into before crawling under covers for what was supposed to be a short nap. The sun was setting, and as she entered the living room, she noted the way the burnt orange hue signaling the heels of dusk painted the room, casting the most gorgeous, long shadows on the hardwood floor and making the beige walls seem darker. Jim hadn’t turned on the overhead light, but when Y/n found him sitting near the window at the dining table, he’d had the tall, sleek, standing lamp behind him to illuminate his work area.
“You went out?” Y/n probed innocently as she padded closer, glimpsing his coat on the sofa and a bag from a nearby convenience store that hadn’t been there earlier on the kitchen counter, with his keys next to it.
“Uh,” Jim glanced upwards and his glasses slid down the bridge of his nose a little. Y/n smiled faintly at the sight of him like that; she always thought he looked cute while he worked, though, cute was not a word he was particularly fond of, at least when she was using it describe him. "Yeah, went for a walk to clear my head, ended up picking up some ginger ale in case you started feeling sick again.”
Y/n hummed at the gesture, and deciding that the reason he’d been distant wasn’t borne from anger, she closed the space between them. As she drew nearer, Jim pushed his laptop away and offered his hand, wordlessly inviting her to sit in his lap. “Clear your head?” She pressed softly, draping one arm over his shoulder while picking at his sweater with her free hand. “Ready to talk about what’s bothering you now?”
Jim groaned quietly as he slipped his hand under the hem of her tank top, grazing his knuckles along her spine, “I guess,” he mumbled and with a sigh, he continued, “Its just…..when Dr. Shaw said that you were nine weeks along, and that we’d conceived early October, I started doing the math in my head and then I realized that you’d already been pregnant when I told you I didn’t want any more kids. And when that whole mess with Yvonne happened,” he frowned deeply and Y/n did too. She hadn’t even thought of that, far less realized that it had been bothering him. Jim’s hand formerly laid in her lap, gravitated to her stomach and he continued somberly, “I just keep thinking about how hard it must have been when you found out, how scared you must have been. Then I flipped out on you, everything I did was awful,” he shook his head and suddenly, he slipped his arms around her, hugging Y/n and she readily returned his embrace, “I’m so sorry,” he spoke quietly, words cast into her neck.
“Its okay,” Y/n kissed his head and threaded her lithe fingers through his hair in an affectionate, reassuring gesture.
“Its not,” Jim countered, “What if the first thing our baby knows about me is that I said I didn’t want them, then I hurt their mother and then yelled at her when she tried to protect them?”
Y/n brought her hands to his face, her thumbs tracing circles on his cheekbones, “Jim,” she cooed, touching their noses, “The first thing that they know about you is how much you love me, and now them,” a faint smile tugged at her lips and Y/n had to stifle her giggle when she added, “Besides, I don’t think they have ears yet.”
“I’m being serious here, Y/n,” Jim bemoaned, arms around her going tighter.
Apologetically, she swiped a chaste kiss off his lips, “Right, I’m sorry,” she kissed him again, slower that time, “Look, we both made mistakes, maybe......that thing with Yvonne could have been avoided, and you reacted badly, but I should have told you I was pregnant when I found out instead of coming up with ways to lie about. But those were mistakes and now we have the rest of our lives to be better for them. You have…thirty one weeks and then so many years to be the best father that you can be for them.”
He hugged her again, and once more Y/n melted into Jim’s warm embrace, “I just want them to love me,” he resigned with a sigh.
“They will, they do,” she corrected hastily, cupping his face firmly and pulling away to meet his eyes, “You don’t have to be perfect, or never make mistakes for this baby to love you or think you’re an amazing dad, you already are.”
“Thank you,” he whispered, bringing his lips to hers once more in a slow, honeyed kiss, "And you're going to be a wonderful mother," he murmured against her lips.
"You really think?" Y/n questioned hopefully, caressing the back of Jim's neck.
He hummed against her lips, "I know," he reaffirmed. They stayed like for a little while, in the secure bubble of his apartment, trading sweet, lingering pecks and innocent, loving touches. Despite the weight of an uncertain future resting heavy on her shoulders, and possibly his too, Y/n still let herself enjoy the private moment, the first of many as expectant parents and the one of the last few as just a couple.

LOOKING FOR A PROOFREADER
Hi-yo! For the first time this year I pulled myself together and have finally managed to write something for RH week! All thanks to @illbebuyingallofthoseflowers for letting me vent a lot (sorry) and Venom 2 which apparently gave me quite a motivation boost. I have something planned for every day, have 1 completely finished work of two chapters, and 3+ WIPs in the making, with more to come. If anyone would be interested and have some free time on their hands and a need for RH content, I would be really happy to have someone look one or more of them over, fix some mistakes and give some feedback! :D It’ll be the first works of written fiction I’ll ever make publicly available, so it’s quite a step for me that I would like someone to hold my tiny little hand through. (I’ll still be posting them either way tho - so if you just want to read them, no worries!) Also, just to add, there’s a risk I might not have time to finish all of it in time, since I have school and work on the side to juggle with as well. Just a heads up. Amount of works can therefore be anywhere between 2 and 9, and word count in total for all works will be anywhere between like... 15k and 40k. If you only want/have time to read a specific amount, don’t hesitate to write anyway :) I don’t mind if the proof reading won’t happen until after the works have been published when RH week starts in 22 days. If someone volunteers to do it, anytime is fine by me. Definitely no need to stress if you see this post and want to do it, but don’t currently have the time or energy! ~! I prefer to have it be a mutual within the fandom that checks it/some/all of them out, so they have the ability of telling me if my characterization needs some adjusting lol
#proof reading#rinharuweek#rinharu#long post#(sorry. i talk too much)#shark writes#also if i got any artists mutuals who wants to participate in rh week but have no clue what to draw and wants some inspiration -#you are MORE than welcome to read one of my fics or ideas and use it for inspiration or collaboration-ish!! :D#that would be absolutely incredible#the idea that my works or future works could inspire someone else... absolute unreal lol#you don't have to proof-read or anything if that's the case btw

this post, coming to you from the grave...
just kidding. I'm alive and well. just had a lot of personal things to struggle through. but I'm working on getting my life together so I can get a writing schedule set up. here is a question thingy to clog up your dashboard in the mean time.
1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
~ maybe like 3.5. I find typos and errors a lot when I read through stuff for the millionth time
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
~ mostly to get things out of my mind so that they don’t live in there rent free and drive me crazy.
3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?
~ well, it used to be that I wrote in 2nd person POV and no one liked it. But I have since altered that mindset. So now I need some new stuff for everyone to give me that feedback so I can improve.
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
~ mostly, fellow fanfic writers inspire me. But from strictly like a “wow their writing makes me want to be like that, but better” I would have to say its going to be the modern poetry that I read. A lot of r.m drake, Amanda Lovelace, occasionally rh sin.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
~ if only. Because it was my first fic and it was my own story.
6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?
~ the idea of the story. I can play it all out in my head, no problem.
7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?
~ the writing part. And occasionally, like right now, the motivation to write part.
8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?
~ Blake is the easiest to write for me, but I enjoy writing Weiss and Yang as well. I’m fond of Winter and Pyrrha sometimes.
9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?
~ Ruby. But I think that’s just because I don’t have any kind of emotional connection to her. Out of the four RWBY girls, she’s my number four.
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
~ fiction.
11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?
~ when it comes to fanfic, monochrome forever and always. Not fanfic, its going to be poetry that is inspired by my somewhat boring life.
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
~ I have a multi chapter fic in the works, which is why I haven’t posted much. And I like to get everything complete before posting. But I’m struggling to find motivation to do the actual writing.
13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
~ RWBY and it will prolly be the only one I would write for.
14. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
~ RWBY.
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
~ oh look, RWBY again.
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
~ friends to lovers is obvious. But I always like the cold, grouchy, lonely ones that come together.
17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.
~ something nonconsensual. Or incest. That’s just yuck.
18. Wildest fic you’ve ever written?
~ I don’t know if it counts as fic, but it’s not public and I don’t think it ever will be. And its kinda smutty.
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
~ AU all day and night.
20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?
~ the shippy stuff. Forever and always.
21. Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)
~ monochrome.
22. Do you listen to anything while you write?
~ sometimes if I’m stuck, I listen to please be naked by the 1975. That song has deep seated emotional attachments for me.
23. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas?
~ for the short stuff like one shots, I need prompts or something. For the multi chapter stuff I usually develop my ideas independently.
24. One-shots or multi-chaptered works?
~ one shots for the in between multi chapter works. I say this ironically because I’m not doing well at either right now.
25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!
~ not really, because my actual life is the spin off of my fic. It includes a cross country desertion of my entire life. Riveting stuff.
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
~ right now? Just words.
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
~ I’ve gotten too many lovely ones to pick a single one out.
28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?
~ its part of my regular job to take feedback and criticism, so that helps with writing. I have an objective brain.
29. Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?
~ I think just writing the first one was outside of my comfort zone. Turned out alright, since I’ve written a few more.
30. Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?
~ why not both?
31. Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!
~ my brain isn’t creative enough for OC and the time required to develop them.
32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
~ feeling love with nothing felt in return.
33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?
~ I’m slacking on my writing a lot, and I had a lot of real life things blocking my writing brain. But I’m working on it.
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
~ I just spent over an hour reading through things I’ve written and couldn’t pick a single one.
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
~ this year is gonna be the year I get my writing life together. I’ve worked through a lot of the personal things that prevented me from dedicating time to writing. So I promise monos content for 2021.

“What matters is that Batman needs you,” oh great, they were back to this.
“I don’t give a rat’s ass about what Batman does or does not need, kid.”
“Please, Jason, he needs Robin. He’s getting more dangerous and violent. I’ve had to call 9-1-1 fifteen different times in the last week because otherwise the person Batman had been fighting would have died. He can’t do this without you, without someone.”
Jason leaned forward. “Look, kid, if you want to get into those uncomfortable scales panties, be my guest, but I’m not going within twenty feet of Batman, and you wouldn’t either if you knew what we best for you.”
