Good morning, I'm writing to you on behalf of my client, who has asked for an item of inexorbnate price, having told me that "money is of no object". Please send me your finest, most expensive item for the satisfaction of my client. Yours truly, Anonymous

Item: this vintage Artificial Prince. He is very polite and fulfills princely duties efficiently. Some would say he needs cleaning and restoring, but true connoisseurs of artificial people maintain that the chips and smudges add character and vintage charm.

⚖️ Subtle Tyr Worship 🛡️
Try to take your promises more seriously; do your best to fulfill them
Own a weapon - be it self-defense or just one you admire
Take a walk/hike in nature; try to challenge yourself with doing a more difficult route (within reason; look after your well-being)
Have a candle that reminds you of him (no altar needed)
Wear jewelry that reminds you of him
Keep a picture of him in your wallet
Take a walk alongside a stream
Support causes you believe in; homeless shelters, humanitarian organizations, etc.
Volunteer at a homeless or animal shelter
Practice compassion towards others and yourself
Engage in random acts of kindness; holding the door for someone, offering to help someone carry something, giving to a family in need, etc.
Have a stuffed animal of any creatures you associate with justice, fairness, or courage; have a wolf stuffed animal
Keep imagery of spears/weapons, shields, scales, Viking warriors, promises/others, or self-sacrifice (specifically for the greater good) around
Practice patience and restraint, especially with people who bother/annoy you; you can also practice this towards yourself
Find healthy outlets for your emotions; martial arts, building, crafting, drawing, writing, etc.
Learn about emotional regulation; practice emotional regulation
Try to consider all perspectives in a situation; try to understand things from another's point of view; try not to immediately cast judgement
Practice not engaging in needless gossip; such things can end up being extremely harmful to all parties later on
Learn about healthy conflict resolution skills; try to implement these in your next conflict
Practice becoming more comfortable with the idea of conflict; it is only natural that we sometimes will disagree with people - that is not always a bad thing
Go outside of your comfort zone; challenge yourself by doing things/taking risks that intimidate you (to a reasonable degree)
Do someone else's chores or a task that is tough for them; offer to shovel snow for someone or do some yard work for them
Challenge yourself with some hard work; do something with your hands
Assert your boundaries; discover what your personal boundaries are; not all boundaries need be spoken
Let someone know when they've done something that bothers you; this is a kindness to both of you - a chance for them to learn
Tend to a garden - something that takes hard work or brings you peace
Feed neighborhood cats, dogs, birds, etc.
Donate supplies to homeless or animal shelters; hygiene kits are great for homeless, animal food and treats for animal
Focus on building a foundation of personal strength; know yourself inside and out; don't buy into the dumb things people may say, you know yourself better than others
Listen to your gut; work on trusting yourself
Exercise; get some movement throughout the day
Make something for someone else; make a gift yourself; a drawing/painting, a wood carving, a knitted blanket, a handmade candle, etc.
Check in with your loved ones more often, even just a quick "Hey, how are you" or "I love you"
Bake or cook something for your neighbors; hand them out; cookies, pastries, biscuits, etc.
Restore a vintage item; clean a toy or.important item from your childhood; take good care of your family heirlooms
Engage in family traditions or create your own c:
Get more comfortable with compromises; in disagreements, try to suggest them
If it's not something you're practiced at, learn to agree to disagree; we don't always have to prove our points, and that's ok
After a difficult day, take a warm bath/shower
Try your hand at a new skill or hobby
Support someone through a difficult time; support yourself through a difficult time
Know your limits when helping others; you need not sacrifice yourself for everyone you meet
Treat yourself with the same love and kindness that you treat others with
Make a list of your personal strengths; try to recognize them when they show up - maybe do this on a weekly, bi-weelky, or monthly basis
Surprise a loved one you live with by hanging up affirmational post it notes somewhere they'll see it; you can also do this for yourself
Get more comfortable with the idea that we don't get along with everyone; it's ok if someone doesn't like you
-
This is my list of discreet ways to worship Tyr. I hope someone finds this helpful. I'll likely add more in the future. Take care, everyone! 🧡

sbk members species + respawn hcs
Viking -- "human." he's unsure how he respawns, and unknowingly this is because it's tied to something/someone that would really prefer to avoid detection.
Fix -- lumian. they just have innate respawn in some universes, wild right? it's fine, don't worry about it.
Fool -- was human at some point, probably, but is a little bit too god-touched to classify as that now. his god is actively trying to keep him alive.
Milkman -- nobody knows, but he's immortal by default of getting himself kicked out of every single afterlife in existence.
Kittrix -- sculky and might be an insect of some type (credit goes to @mallowbees for the latter). whenever she dies, a new Kittrix crawls out of the ground at her spawnpoint like a warden with her memory fully intact.
Trog -- don't ask. as for respawn, though, even if they hadn't done dark magic about that ages ago to make sure they'd never die, they effectively made the Skyblock world.
Ruby -- "human" as well. The Bearer Of The Curse. it's unclear as to if this curse is just immortality or if it's something else as well. some people who've stood near the point where zhe respawns have heard ticking clock noises...
Vintage -- human-adjacent, but a shapeshifter sometimes randomly have pointy ears or a unicorn horn or mantis mandibles or what have you. someone in her recent family history was probably fair folk. whatever afterlife she keeps getting sent to, they're suckers and are easily sweet-talked into letting her come back to life for free.
Leon -- just sort of a general anthro penguin situation (with maybe a little bit of endermite in there too). has too much chorus fruit in his system still and taking damage -- especially void damage -- will cause him to teleport, often several times at once. he usually drops all his stuff when this happens before ending up teleporting back home.
Josh -- a really fun guy. regrows. like a fungits. he's a mushroom.
Avid -- human, then ex-human (and largely made up of corpseplants), then a monkey. his boss won't let him die. whether this is a work benefit or a horrible drawback is entirely unclear.
Doovid -- was legitimately human prior to turning into a monkey. whenever he dies, time freezes, he sees an Instability detected. Player restored and game paused popup message out of the corner of his eyes, and then he resets back to where he woke up that morning with no stuff.
Kale -- pigy (potentially an alien, credit to @moxijunk for that one). has normal respawn, but goes full Gmod ragdoll when he dies before eventually fading and respawning. can't actually take Void deaths as he will loop back to the top of the skybox until he hits something solid, at which point he and his items vaporize on impact.
M1g -- lumian-enderdragon hybrid (credit to @autisticlalna for the former and @moxijunk for the latter). lumians do in fact have respawn in some universes; M1g specifically is here on assignment so he's been given respawn in order to blend in and maintain cover.
Marmalade -- human, still, something she's a little bit grumpy about because she thinks becoming a nonhuman would be pretty cool. whenever she dies the Void picks her up and oh so gently sets her back down at her spawnpoint with a pat on the head.
Teaish -- dryad, or at the very least a plant person. her fortune specifically said she was going to have a nice day and permadying would really ruin that :(
Anathra -- questionably human (he can see through the fourth wall, but also, he seems totally human otherwise). lags out heavily until he eventually restabilizes, erratically teleporting around and resetting his position several times in sort of a combination of Leon and Doovid's respawn styles. drops all his stuff during this process. (credit to @rubycowashere for this one)
Acorn -- tanuki (this seems to be a general consensus, idk who to credit) and also maybe fae (credit to @mallowbees). transforms into a leaf, and then a leaf on top of the Spruce island transforms into her. can't carry her inventory with her when doing this, though. (credit to @rubycowashere for this one as well)
Elffe -- some sort of Netherborn, although his exact species is unknown. regrows when he dies (it's very fleshy and a little bit gross).
Artemis -- human, but slightly to the left. weird portal-based respawn that will often evaporate her items while she's traveling. (credit to @fallow-foot for these)

I didn't want to really call it "Halloween" inside the game since that's sort of based in real-world belief systems that don't exist in Snacko. After all, Snacko has their own beliefs and deities already well established in the lore…so I figured it deserved its own version of "Halloween". Keeping the idea the same where it's helping souls move past purgatory, Lunarfall is just the more, um, Snacko version of it.
I had a lot of fun writing the banter between the characters for these new quests, including the quest descriptions. As time goes on and more Guild quests get added, the Guild leaders or reps also end up getting more of their own personality that makes them easier to write more interesting descriptions for.
So, I hope if quests and reading are your thing, you enjoy the work I've put into the narrative aspect of this update!
Tumblr media
Ah, and, I was going to do Pumpkin Soup at first, but then I realized it looked exactly like Carrot Soup… So I made hobakjuk instead. It's a type of pumpkin soup thickened with rice flour and rice balls. Honestly, working on this update just made me really want to eat pumpkin pie. Maybe I can get my hands on some soon.
Tumblr media
The Ornate Fence is set up in a way that in the future, we can make it dyeable. We're still working on our next major update with the build mode upgrades, so for everyone who really enjoys getting creative, please look forward to it! 🙇
Thank you very much for reading! Happy Lunarfall!

TTTE Headcanons: Engines’ TV Habits
This is pretty goofy, but I’m thinking about what sorts of TV the engines might watch if they had a TV or a streaming device in their sheds. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far!
—————————————
Henry loves nature shows, of course. In addition, after his fireman lamented his spilt hot cocoa, he wanted to understand why humans care so much about food. This led him to cooking shows, which he found very relaxing. He likes to watch raw, disparate ingredients become something beautiful and complete.
Edward goes for mysteries — lighter, cozier shows like Midsomer Murders, Rosemary & Thyme, and Murder, She Wrote. He’s also a fan of Granada Studios’ 1984 Sherlock Holmes. It tickles the same part of him that enjoys ghost stories, giving him a slight thrill alongside a pleasing mind-teaser.
Gordon watches the news every morning and evening. He likes to feel up-to-date on important events, expounding on them to his colleagues. Any program about opera and orchestral performances also appeals to him. There’s some snobbery involved, but he does enjoy hearing and learning about musical genres.
James likes game and talent shows, often shouting answers and opinions at the TV. He’s so attuned to these shows’ editing that he’ll guess a season winner, set up a betting pool, and rake in all the favors after the finale with a smug grin. (Gordon and Henry only keep placing bets because they want to show him up someday.)
All three big engines indulge in the guilty pleasure of soap operas. They think nobody else knows about this. Pip and Emma “obliviously” intrude on their watch parties to make them squirm.
Thomas and Percy watch ghost hunting shows together. They scoff at the idea of ghosts, accuse each other of being ‘fraidy-cats, and huddle close in fear as an episode progresses. They also watch late-night airings of schlocky films with Toby, whose sly commentary cracks them all up.
On his own, Thomas watches motorsport broadcasts. Bertie hooked him on it not long after they started racing each other. He’s a fan of some F1 drivers and their cars, often comparing notes with Bertie in serious (and sometimes heated) discussions.
Percy has a soft spot for period dramas. He’ll laugh at historical inaccuracies, get invested in all the characters, and ponder common tropes. He’s not afraid to ask about the servants who have to endure the wealthy protagonists’ dramatics.
Toby doesn’t watch much TV outside of what he sees with Thomas and Percy. However, he and Henrietta are partial to some late-night talk shows. If the show’s interviewing someone they’re interested in, or if they think the host is funny, they’ll give an episode a try.
Duck adores How It’s Made. It’s very satisfying for him to watch a bunch of moving parts at work, slotting pieces into their rightful places to assemble something. Other nights, he watches travel shows. They explore locations all around the world, scratching his itch to see what’s beyond his horizon.
Donald watches stand-up comedy specials, going for a good laugh at the end of the day to decompress. Ever since Duck “gifted” him Dilly, he also watches nature programs and shows about training/caring for pets. (He and Dilly are working on some tricks.)
Oliver picks sci-fi shows, with Star Trek and Doctor Who as his favorites. He’s drawn in by the pulpy adventures, moral dilemmas, and complex protagonists. It all makes him feel better about himself: you can mess up on an astronomical scale, but still be capable of good things. You don’t have to be a perfect hero to be a good person.
Douglas enjoys shows about antiques and vintage items — things in the vein of Antique Roadshow, or American Pickers. He’s a sucker for knickknacks that meant something to someone, for all the stories behind each one, and for their loving restorations.
Bill and Ben think fitness shows are hysterical. They’re forever amused by the odd ways the instructors contort their bodies. But they also scheme for their crews to watch these shows, hoping they’ll participate and stay healthy for years to come.
Daisy’ll watch any program about fashion or body art (tattoos, piercings, etc). Being so attentive to her swerves, she’s curious about the ways that humans adorn themselves. She’ll sometimes take inspiration from what she sees, but she’ll always argue that fashion is an art form, pointing to these shows for examples.
——————————————
What are your guys’ thoughts/headcanons? I’d love to hear them!

Some of you may remember me mentioning my quest to get black cherry soda and several shipments ending in tragic bottle breakage. I have been seriously craving this soda for nearly a month now.
I contacted Boylan and accused them of shoddy shipping.
Tumblr media
They very politely informed me it was not their shoddy shipping store on Amazon.
Tumblr media
After some additional Amazon analysis, I felt foolish about my inaccurate accusations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They informed me there were no local distributors of Boylan brand bottled black cherry beverages. They said they had no control over Amazon shipments and recommended I order directly from them. That would make this already pretty pricey pop about $15 more expensive after shipping and tax.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had nearly given up.
After the $220 pizza and the $250 battery replacement and an almost assured account overdraw in my future, I'd have to wait at least until next month to satisfy my soda craving.
But when I went to my local Schnucks grocery store last night I decided to check the soda aisle to see if there were any alternatives.
My first find was Schnucks' own generic brand black cherry soda.
Tumblr media
I have to say, that is a cute label for a generic store brand product.
After some research, I discovered this is a rebrand of a classic Vess soda. I like Vess soda! They make a wonderful cream soda concoction that my grandma used to buy whenever I would visit on the weekends. And I specifically told my mom never to buy cream soda for home because then it wouldn't be special when I had it at my grandma's house.
Sadly, I was unaware it was Vess-in-disguise and I was not trusting of a generic store-branded soda. Sometimes these low-cost rebranded items can be good, but it is always a crapshoot. I mean, their generic peas are 70 cents cheaper than Green Giant, but they are also mushy as heck. So based on my previous peas experience, there was a good chance it would taste more like black cherry cough syrup than soda.
I didn't know it was Vess, okay?
REMEMBER THE PEAS, PLEASE!
I fell into a soda research rabbit hole. Vess was acquired by a company called Cott Beverages in 1994. And Cott was then acquired by a company called Refresco in 2018. And Refresco partnered with Coca-Cola and is now their main manufacturer in the United States.
So I guess it is actually a Refresco Cott Vess Schnucks brand black cherry soda in partnership with Coca-Cola.
Capitalism is fucking weird, dude.
So the possible cough syrup RefresCoVesScnhucks was in my cart. I was considering taking the risk.
But then I noticed... the Fitz's section.
Tumblr media
A locally owned and operated boutique soda bottler.
*heavenly music*
And do you know who owns Fitz's?
Mr. Alfred J. Fitz! (I don't actually know his first name or middle initial.)
Who founded Fitz's in 1947 as a drive-in restaurant based around his popular secret root beer recipe.
That's right. Fitz's was not enveloped by an incestuous line of conglomerates successively eating each other.
And because of that, they went out of business in 1976. The soda biz is rough if you don't have a multinational manufacturing and distribution network.
But then Fitz's was revived in 1993 by two plucky entrepreneurs who were determined to rebuild the brand using the original secret root beer recipe from Mr. Alfred J. Fitz.
Small business wins the day!
And then they sold out to The Westgate Group in late 1999.
Which then sold it again to Clayton Capital Partners in 2003.
Will capitalism please stop fucking with soda?
But then one of those plucky entrepreneurs thought the brand was being damaged by soulless investment firms and bought back Fitz's. He restored it to glory and I'm sure he will never sell it again*. He is intent on maintaining the Fitz's tradition and image as a beloved St. Louis small business that culturally enriches our famed Delmar Loop with vintage soda bottling techniques customers can watch when they visit the Fitz's restaurant. Neat!
Tumblr media
*Unless RefresCoVesScnhucks offers him a bunch of money.
I can't believe I forgot about Fitz's. I used their root beer as a subject for one of my favorite product photos.
Tumblr media
To make a long story as long as humanly possible my god why are you even still reading this...
...wouldn't you know it, Fitz's makes black cherry soda!
Tumblr media
It is delicious.
Craving accomplished.

What was the most difficult deal, or chain of deals, you have had to close? I am familiar with many merchants who needed to get a piece of equipment for a client, but to do so needed to acquire and sell an other item, to acquire and sell another item, etc, etc, to eventually get access to the item the client wanted in the first place.
- COMGEN Melissa Hazen
@is-the-battlemech-cool-or-not
I was once tasked with aquiring a CLNT-1-2R for a rare Mech collector on Hesperus. As only twenty of these machines were ever made, and none recorded survived to the current day, it proved a substantial challenge. I bartered a rare vintage of Canopian Brandy to Clan Sea Fox's Lorekeeper to see if any had made the trip with General Kerensky's Exodus, which they had, though all known surviving examples of that prototype had ended up with Clan Snow Raven, but all had eventually been upgraded to the Clint IIC, which had subsequently been sold to Clan Blood Spirit.
I had thought that would be the end of my search if not for a chance encounter with a member of Wolf's Dragoons in a bar on Solaris VII. I was there providing spare parts to a gladiator stable. The Dragoon told me that he claimed genetic heritage from Clan Blood Spirit, his great grandfather having been one of the original freeborn volunteers for the unit. I immediately consulted the Loremaster again, costing yet another cask pf brandy, and discovered that there were three members of Clan Blood Spirit who had joined the dragoons.
My good luck continued as I found that one MechWarrior Calhoun, known in the Inner Sphere as Calhoun Pelt, had brought along with him his personal Battlemech, a Clint IIC, which he downgraded back to Inner Sphere level technology to fit with the mission. More searching through historical records and bribes later and a military historian on Luthien found evidence that Calhoun and his 'Mech were lost on Misery in 3028, felled in a duel against Chu-i Watanabe Ichiro, then fallen beneath the ice when the Dragoons collapsed it with charges.
There followed an expedition at no small expense to me along with the purchase of a salvage submersible and a pair of cargo VTOLs. After a month of searching we recovered Calhoun's 'Mech, along with several others, and found something astonishing. The Clint's serial numbers matched that of one of the priginal prototypes, the sixth off the line at the Adoran Industries plant on Bell.
After another month of in transit restoration, made even more expensive by the Clint's notoriously hard to source parts, it was delivered to the client in pristine condition. In exchange I secured a hefty payment more than covering the expenses of the venture, substantial though they were, and a trade deal for the Clan in the client's lucrative toy 'Mech manufacturing business, allowing the Tiburon Khanate to become the sole distributor of Matchbox 'Mechs to the Federated Suns.

Welcome Home Neighbor~ ✨ You and your friends enjoy passing the time exploring old and abandoned places and selling the leftovers for spare cash, but what would happen if things don't go according to plan?
Chapter 1/?
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You did not like this adventure one bit.
“Oh come on Y/N! What’re ya? Chicken?!”
Your friends Badgered you relentlessly as you all approached the tattered and run-down building. The once brightly coloured sign is now barely legible reading “Playfellow Workshops” In bold letters.
“I don't know guys... This building looks old anyways, I doubt there's anything in there worth taking”
Your eyes scan the shattered windows and brightly coloured “No Trespassing” sign, You don't know how you always get into these situations with your friends. It seemed whenever you were around it was always,
“Hey, I know a good spot to go to!”... or... “C'mon! We can use the money for a new Game!”
Nevertheless, your friends would never try to put you in danger... Right?
Yeah, nope they definitely would if it meant you guys could afford the new Nintendo game.
“C'mon, what if there's some vintage film in there? Think of all the possibilities Y/N!”
One of your friends shouted as he pushed you toward the entrance of the building. Your shoes made an imprint into the gravel driveway as you tried to stop yourself from going any closer.
You did not like the look of this place, the energy was off and bad vibes were lingering all around the already busted open wired gate.
However as you looked behind your shoulder, you knew from the looks on all of your friend's faces you weren't getting yourself out of this one.
So, with a heavy sigh, you marched forward past the tattered gates and steeled yourself for what you might find.
As you approached the giant red doors of the Studio, you remembered most places when they are shut down have the door bolted shut from the inside for this exact reason!
A small grin sneaked its way onto your face as you put one hand out and turned your head, ready to tell your friends there was no way to enter the building.
Of course, the door had to open flawlessly with a small push. Your small grin disappeared as fast as your friends had, with them nowhere to be found in your sight. They did that a lot though so you pushed forward into the studio.
First and foremost this place was big. It must have had many productions and props for it to be filled to the extent it was.
Boxes and cobwebs littered the concrete floor, a thick layer of dust coated the walls and plaques hung on the walls, the only light source being the dim light provided through the shattered windows.
You wouldn't get far without a flashlight though, as you searched your pockets for your phone your eyes found themselves scanning the walls for a light switch. Your efforts for a light switch proving to be for naught as you finally found your phone and clicked on the light.
Papers littered the floor, some covered with sketches of what you could only assume to be characters, and some with writing and... Was that a contract??
This place seemed to be in a devastating mess, even the concrete flooring felt unstable as you took steps farther into the Studio.
One thing caught your eye regardless, making you trek deeper and deeper to get a better glimpse. It was hard to tell by the dim light coming from your phone, but it seemed to be a Set used for the Characters to interact with.
A bright red house sat in the center of the room, its mechanical eyes shut with rust covering the surface. If the required items were remaining to get it to work, you knew by now there was no hope of restoring it.
You moved on to a farther corner of the warehouse, your curiosity seeming to reach its peak as you saw a door leading to an office. You rolled up your sleeve to wipe the dust from the door, it read
“Directors Office.”
Well… If there were any profitable things to be found you guess they would be in there, reaching for the door handle, it jiggled in your grip. Locked. Of course it was.
Dropping down onto one knee, you began to search your pockets to see if you had anything that would help with breaking into the office. Not very keen on returning to your friends empty-handed.
All you could find though was a wadded-up Five, a broken pin from your school backpack, and a soda tab…
…You considered yourself a very organized person.
Rising to your feet once more, holding the broken pin in your hand you began to try to finagle it into the lock, and by some miracle it... Worked?
You weren't one to doubt your talents but this just felt wrong, the lock should not have opened the door as quickly as it did.
The thought left your mind as you pushed forward, you didn’t want to be in here longer than necessary.
To your dismay, all that you could find were more animation and puppeteering sketches, they looked very intricate and old, with detailing on how to hold the strings for a puppet named Wally Darling and such.
From what you could gather from the scattered documents, this studio used to run a show titled Welcome Home, where the main Puppet named Wally would go and have adventures with his friends.
You ‘wished your adventures didn't always lead to trespassing’ you thought as your eyes landed on a rather cute piece of art containing Wally and his friends.
The designs were cute and simple, it was no wonder the show had its successes, one thought still lingered, why did this place shut down?
You understood the concept of bankruptcy, it was a common theme in your economics class, but this didn't make any sense.
The papers on the desk nonetheless clearly stated a bankruptcy claim, and a lawsuit file, with highlighted words stating there were OSHA violations, and rumours of puppeteers being harmed on the job.
It felt as if your mind was being run in circles the more you examined the papers on the desk,
Until you heard footsteps.
Your breath is caught in your throat. The footsteps sounded like they were coming from the front of the building, recognized by the sounds of glass being stepped on. Of course they had to be coming from the only known entrance to this place.
Your brain quickly jumpstarted back into functioning as adrenaline coursed through your veins. Clicking off your flashlight you picked up what papers you could recognize, At least you wouldn't be empty-handed. Making quick work of them and folding them into your jacket pocket.
Your hair stood up on its neck as the steps rapidly approached. You had that cold feeling running up and down your spine as you scanned the room for any sign of escape.
Other than the main office door of course there was no other way to flee. Your muddied shoes provided you with quieter footsteps as you crept towards the door.
The broken windows allow for minimal light to produce shadows of boxes and various rusted equipment.
One thing remained prominent in your mind, however,
Where were the footsteps coming from?
There was no shadow in the front of the building, yet those menacing footsteps kept crescendoing in your direction.
You had no time to worry about this, you needed to escape, and from the looks of it, this may be your only chance to do so. With a final deep breath, you shot from your previous place of hiding and took off in the direction of the doors.
The dim sunlight from the windows allowed you to avoid various boxes and obstacles in your path, You were not expecting however to feel the eyes of a predator on your back.
You tried your best to ignore it, but your breath proceed to become more laboured and panicked. Feeling as if you were a mouse caught in a glue trap. Your feet feel as heavy as concrete bricks as they hit the floor, where are you even running?
You couldn't tell. You tripped on what seemed to be your own feet, the world spinning around you, and you felt sick. What was going on? You felt panic proceed to grip your very soul as you felt the weak structure crack under your body.
This was not how this was supposed to go.
You wished you just stayed home. You could have minded your business and scrolled on the internet, but no. You had to be nosy and go exploring.
Your breaths became crazed and your eyes glued themselves onto the gray concrete. Not daring to look behind or beside you, in fear of making eye contact with what had frozen you with fear.
None of that seemed to matter anymore as the spinning feeling took hold of your brain. You could feel a migraine begin to pierce your eyes making your head throb.
Before you passed out,
you could have sworn the concrete was not this soft.

Thebe Estate, Tartosa
I'm a huge Felixandre fan, if you haven't seen his phenomenal work, you are missing out. I think most everyone who builds in Sims 4 knows his fantastic works and his architectural is by far top tier. With the release of his Estate set, I thought the Thebe Estate in Tartosa could use a little makeover.
My inspo was to keep the overall layout of the build. I love that it already has the feel of an established estate, I just wanted to give it a bit more, "Old Money' vibe. I set out to not only find items that kept a modern furnishing, but my IRL love of thrifting and antiquing had me wanting to find pieces that felt like they might be heirloom, or restored finds.
Redecorating is probably one of my favorite parts of the gameplay and has been since I first discovered the Sims 1 in the early 2000s. I hope you guys love it.

How can I have a world that improves technology but also doesn't remove obsolete technology? Obviously not all obsolete technology, ones too dangerous, doesn't have enough safety features etc, why of course they can go. Let's first start with things like computers. Clearly older things no longer run on newer computers, but it erases things that were made on old types. I want a society that actually preserves those old things and still has new things made with the old technology. If it's a car, well, obviously poor safety features do have to be gone, but any technology that can be kept stays - I suppose you can say retro but definitely trying to follow the old technology as much as possible.
Licorice: You can have this world by making it like the world you’re living in right now. Human beings have a tendency to get very attached to their old technology and invest a great deal of time and effort keeping it in working order, as vintage car rallies can attest. Of course, if you want to drive your vintage car on a public road you have to make sure it meets emissions requirements, is fitted with seat-belts, and fulfils all the other safety regulations.
Technology very rarely gets removed, it’s simply superseded by something that does the same job better - but “better” is a subjective concept. It depends on what any given individual is looking for in their tech. For example, whenever I have to replace an appliance in my home I try to find a second-hand item that pre-dates ‘smart’ technology. They are easier and cheaper to repair, last longer, and have fewer things that can go wrong with them.
Nowadays we have tablets and photoshop but people still make art using brushes, charcoal, paint and canvas. We have Google docs but people still write their novels by hand. We have electric cars but people still drive horse-drawn buggies as a hobby, and also as a competitive sport. In fact the only field in which I imagine obsolete tech really does completely disappear is in STEM, but even then there are probably hobbyists who lovingly maintain and use these old tools.
In short, people hanging on to and lovingly using their old tech is just a normal thing that people do.
Tex: People keep around objectively dangerous technologies all the time as novelty or historical items (see: all the mercury in things, or radioactive materials), and will create entire hobbies around developing patches across technological eras (see: phonographs with USB ports, old video games in emulators on your computer) as a niche skill set. At that point it becomes history, and people work to preserve it for a variety of reasons. As Licorice said, the world you’re looking for is the world you’re already living in. What sort of technologies were you having in mind? There’s a fair chance some hobby groups are out there preserving, restoring, and using exactly that.
Feral: In addition to what Licorice and Tex have already said, I recommend that you look into planned obsolescence and understand that it is not actually necessary for a lot of slightly-less-than-new technologies to no longer be usable the way we often see with Smart devices. It’s a purposefully built in and added feature that could easily be left out.

When the Twins (and maybe a bit moreso Wolf than Adonis just because of the bigger age difference with Bess) first come to the cottage to visit and they see all of these vintage/retro/antique items instead of being hit over the head with all the latest, trendiest, high-tech things like one might expect in a house full of young women, and see how so well cared for and obviously treasured and admired these items are, do you think it touches something inside them? Do you think they think to themselves, "This girl is definitely the one"? Because it just seems like that would be even more of a window into the girls' souls.
I think id definitely hits them as a surprise. A very pleasant surprise, and a relief.
Like you said, I think it may hit a little harder for Wolf, as their age gap is a little larger and Bess is indisputably a young woman while Connie is in this murkier area between 'young woman' and 'old lady' depending on who you ask.
Still, the definitely notice that the apartment is filled with vintage antiques, but also, that everything is cared for. They also can't help but notice that there are some pieces that have been lovingly refinished to restore and preserve their beauty. These items also aren't reluctantly serving as furniture or decor until they can get something else. They'd not hidden or crowded with junk to hide them. Everything is displayed, and looks beautiful and cozy.
I think it convinces them of the girls' merit, and definitely touches them.
These aren't ladies that are putting them on. They're not in this for a laugh, or to get a bag. They really built a life and home in London, and they did it with a house of beloved antiques, trinkets, quilts, handmade pieces and more.
W: It's admittedly been a while since I've been in a lady's residence, but I recall their flats being different. They usually weren't so...decorated.
A: With antiques, you mean.
W: Frankly, yes. These ladies have put a lot of time and work into their cottage. It's ... nice to see, actually.
A: It feels like a home, not the back storage area of a tech store. No cords everywhere. No clutter. (Chuckles) They even had landline phones.
W: YES! Bloody landlines! And an AM/FM radio. Bess even said they were saving for a Victrola. It's ... actually quite wonderful. I don't have to worry about feigning excitement about the newest 'whatever' to come out.
A: I agree. I think it speak to their tastes and priorities quite well.
W: Then again, we ARE biased.
A: I think they're well aware. I just don't think they mind.

After seeing my wife in the wild and am now currently watching Bride of Chucky, I am here to send a LONG overdue ask of Tiffany Valentine thoughts ^^
I think you said you haven't seen the actual movie yet? If so, I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible.
First thing that popped into my head; Tiffany's S/O reacting to her pet tarantula. She expected them to be scared, as that's the norm with spiders. But if her S/O did still try to engage with Charlotte, or even hold her, Tiff will be pleasantly surprised and so happy that to have someone who sees the beauty in spiders ^^
Simialry, imagine seeing her with her doll collection. Tiffany has to have been collecting doll parts before Chucky. She has a soft spot for vintage items and is also into restoration. Imagine sitting next to her, watching her sew up a dolls torn dress or matching the proper limbs to a toy... Imagine seeing the longing look in her eyes when she finds a baby doll and hearing her confess how she's always wanted to be a mother 🥺🥺🥺
Being right there alongside Tiffany while she's collecting newspaper clippings of Chucky; his death, the literal paper trail leading her to Andy, and eventually finding Chucky. If you didn't know about her past with him, this is probably the time that Tiff tells you the truth. You're her best friend/crush, and she wants to trust you. But if you do know, then... You're probably against the idea. Chuck is an asshole 😅 but you want your best friend to be happy too. Even if it means having to watch the woman you love fall back into a bastards arms.
We have plenty of reader pining after Tiffany while she's still in love with Chucky. How about the other way around? Imagine talking to Tiffany about this cute guy you met, failing to notice how distracted she looks. Imagine you introducing your boyfriend to her, and this time you can tell there's something wrong in the way she almost ignores him. Imagine that, years later, she's right there with you shopping for a wedding dress (assuming she didn't kill the loser-), and by now she's trying to accept the fact that you're in love with this guy. As a romantic herself, she gets it... But she wishes that she hadn't been so hung up on Chucky for so long that she lost you.
Kinda related, but... Imagine that, with her experience with love, you go to Tiffany for boy advice. How to get the right guy to look your way. How to cope with heartbreak... How to properly kiss?
Imagine Tiffany introducing you to her mother! (Let's say she's still alive XD) And she's basically like Jim's mum when she meets his S/O; tell Tiffany that she needs to marry you before Chucky scares you away.
Imagine having a similar situation with Doll!Tiffany that Chicky does with some of his victims; somehow you come into possession of this strange doll, and mysterious things start occurring. Granted, Tiffany won't really kill someone like Chucky (unless she has a reason to), but odd things do still happen around your house. It feels like your new doll is alive somehow, and you can't help but treat her as such; confiding in her your troubles, taking extra special care of her, etc. And Tiffany with her bleeding heart can't help but get attached to you.
Thats all I got so far. I hope you enjoy these! ^^
Ooh, we are doing opposite vibes tonight XDD I just watched Cinderella 2015 and now I'm onto Beauty and The Beast 2017 XD
BUT I LOVE THESE SO MUCH!!!
Tumblr media
Those first view Imagines with Tiff and her sweet S/O who loves Charlotte and the dolls males me think of a Princess-Like S/O!! Like, a really really lovely soft gentle pretty-in-pink, kind-to-a-fault S/O. Imagine Tiff with this person!! The clashing of the aesthetics!! Tiff doing her gentle powdery make-up and the adorable pink S/O doing her dramatic goth make-up. Tiff protecting this innocent person with bloody viciousness. Tiff kissing that girl with blood in her mouth and that girl winces but she kisses her back because she loves her!! Tiff and the sweet flowery S/O baking together and decorating cupcakes together! 🧁
And- Reader snarking at Chucky once Tiff's got him back VS Tiff snarking at reader's fiance. I need it XD 💜💜💜
Also imagine reader finally catching on to Tiffany's feelings for her Too-Late, once she's engaged!! Imagine them fighting!! 'Why couldn't you want me then?? Why did you have to do this to me n o w???' 'Baby doll I'm not gonna stop you! I just want you to be happy, ya know that!' 'This isn't fair!' 'Honey, life's not fair.'
Tiffany secretly comforting reader like a girlfriend when thats exactly what she cant be now vibes.
Omg XDD You know I immediately imagined Tiffany as yet another Bickerman XD (Bickerman Twins+Little Sister AU?? Sorry I have a problem XD ) Because I can TOTALLY IMAGINE Delores saying a lot of those things that Tiff says her mother told her XD
Omggggggg. Now I'm imaging buying this Tiff doll and suddenly you keep coming home to freshly baked cookies 🍪 or cupcakes 🧁 XDD

When Two Worlds Collide Series
Chp1 || Chp2 || Chp3 || Chp4 || Chp5 || Chp6 || Chp7 || Chp8
Pairing: Joel Miller x F!Reader x Arthur Morgan
Chapter One: The Hidden Antique
WC: 4.9k
Warnings: 18+ Content. Minors DNI. Friends to Lovers. Flirting. Little bit of fluff. Eventual Smut. Arthur doesn’t make an appearance in this chapter. A little background and build up in the story first.
AN: Ok, my loves. This is pretty much an introduction and a lead up to what happened (in relation to the kinktober crossover fic). Starts off with Joel, then Arthur will eventually make an appearance. I’ve broken up the story because posting large works can be a little difficult on tumblr (it crashes terribly lol). I hope you enjoy the first chapter though. Thank you!

You’ve often wondered about the evolution of a yard sale; like where did the idea originate from and who came up with it? Or why does it feel so exciting to sift through second hand goods, looking to buy something that catches your eye? Perhaps it’s because you can sometimes come across antiques hidden amongst the cluttered pile, and finding something that’s not only expensive, but lavish, decorative and useful too, is very exciting indeed.
These questions spring to mind this afternoon when passing through a neighbourhood adjacent to yours. You were in the process of driving home after a long day at work, but stopped the car with a sudden burst of joy when seeing a yard sale sign. They always said one man’s trash is another man's treasure, and while you’re not a man, you do believe in that saying and felt it was worthwhile to take a look through the household goods laid out across the front lawn.
Of course, it looked messy and disorganized with the chairs, tables and even the sidewalk bestrewn with clutter, but you have a little experience with locating the valuables amongst the household junk. You have a keen eye for these things, and it paid off really well too because not even thirty minutes after you stopped the car, you managed to bag unopened box of fairy lights to place around your home somewhere, several scented candles to use for those nights you’d love to take a relaxing bath, a summer dress with the price still attached which is perfectly timed since the summer season is here and many new books to read as well.
But the most valuable item that you bagged today is the mirror. A hidden gem, you might call it, as the mirror was buried behind an attics worth of trash. It’s body length in size, oval shaped and sturdy, embellished with finely hand carved details in the wooden frame and it would fit perfectly in the corner of your bedroom. Even the stand it came with was worth a pretty penny. The whole piece is a vintage antique and highly valuable.
Having said that however, you didn’t want to hustle the man selling the item and told him that it was worth more than the asking price, but he already knew. Josh Sinclair — the seller — reassured you that the price was right for him. He just wanted to get rid of the damn thing as it had been collecting dust in his grandpa’s attic for years, and the reason he drove the price down is because it’s plastered with a heavy layer of soot and black paint.
According to Josh, his grandpa tried to burn the mirror years ago, but failed with the attempt and just painted it over instead. Frankly, you wouldn’t have taken any interest in buying the thing if you didn’t know how to clean it up and bring it back to a good condition. It’s not something you’re planning to sell once you restore it. You want to keep it in your home.
Though, you still didn’t feel comfortable with the asking price and debated a little more with the man, and in the end, you both settled on forty bucks and now it's yours. You paid for your other items then took them to your car before opening the trunk and folding the back seats down. After a struggle and muttering a string of curses under your breath, you dusted your hands off and turned to look at Josh, still feeling guilty for how little he was taking. The mirror is worth thousands.
Reaching into your pocket and pulling out another thirty dollars, you presented it to the man for all of his help. “Here, take this — please.” You persisted and quickly explained. “This mirror was worth so much more in its prime. I feel bad taking it off your hands for only forty dollars and you did all the heavy lifting anyways.” You smiled, hoping it would seal the deal and to your relief, the man didn’t refuse your offer and accepted the extra cash.
“Thank you, Y/N… Thank you.” He replied gratefully, holding your eye contact for a moment as he nodded with appreciation. You returned the nod and began walking around the car to the driver's door. He opened it for you and waited till you were sitting inside comfortably before shutting it. After you had turned the key in the ignition, you opened the window and looked up at the man with another smile as he said goodbye. “It was nice meeting you. Come back anytime you see me having another yard sale, ya hear?”
“I sure will. Thanks, Josh.” You beamed. When he stepped back and gave you ample room to drive away without the worry of squashing his feet with the tires, you looked in the rear-view mirror and watched his figure gradually get smaller while driving down the street. You think about how his face and personality will always stick in your memory. He has bright ginger hair, pale freckled skin, a large birthmark over his right eye and he was so kind, sweet and patient with you too.
You’ll never forget your interaction with Josh because it was nothing but a pleasure and you’ll certainly be coming back again when he next hosts a yard sale. Maybe next time, you could even invite Joel Miller to tag along with you. He sure likes a yard sale just as much as you do. In fact, it was only a few weeks ago that Joel dragged you to the flea market near town to buy some decorative items for his house as he was in desperate need of your ‘expert opinion’. But to be quite honest, you don’t think the man really needed your opinion at all. He had that covered all by himself. You just think he just wanted your company for the day, and you didn’t mind at all because he’s become someone that you enjoy spending time with. And of course, he is really handsome too.
Joel is your neighbour. He lives next door to you and often spends most of his free time sprucing up his home interior after only just moving into the neighbourhood two months ago. He has a brother named Tommy, a chunky brown Labrador named Rex and a fluffy white Persian cat named Felix. The man's house is warm, welcoming and chaotic, especially with the exciting activities that Rex and Felix get up to. You often watch them from your back porch playing in the yard. They’re so cute together, but you miss them dearly as they’ve been staying at Tommy’s house for the last week.
While Joel has been busying himself with the home décor ever since he moved in, he’s recently taken it upon himself to put his skills to use and just fully renovate instead. His daily work and passion is carpentry after all, which means his house is currently looking a little worse for wear with the scaffolding poles set up, the bags of cement along his front porch and the large yellow industrial dumpster placed on his front lawn. The place is simply too messy and dangerous for Rex and Felix to be around. They can’t even play in the backyard anymore as it’s covered with even more waste that needs to be discarded.
For the longest time, you have thought about getting a dog for yourself and yearned to have that connection that Joel has with Felix and Rex. You love to watch him interact with the little guys. They’re more like his babies rather than pets and sometimes he just sits out back and plays the guitar for them while you eavesdrop from next door. Sometimes he even sings for them, albeit it’s very quiet and only a few words here or there, but the notion of singing to his little fur babies is most adorable.
Clearing your mind as you pull into your street, you look upon the eyesore that is Joel’s home and laugh sweetly when seeing the man scratching the back of his head as he stood on his front lawn. He looked a little frustrated and confused while overlooking some building plans with his buddies, as if he were trying to figure out what the next best step was. But that focus and concern etched on his face was distracting to say the least as you try to drive without staring at him too much. It’s dangerous to gaze upon him like this while behind the wheel.
You snap out of your ogling and focus on the road, keeping Joel and his buddies in your line of sight as you drive carefully. The house may look like an eyesore right now, but you know that once it’s all said and done, it’s going to look perfect. Joel and his brother do most of the work themselves, but some of their work friends pitch in to help whenever and wherever they can. It’s really rather generous and thoughtful of them. You adore that he has friends like that, and secretly hope their generosity extends to his neighbour with the big heavy mirror in the backseat of her car.
Parking your car up in the driveway and hopping out, you walk around the back and open the trunk. “Hey.” You waved to Joel as he looked in your direction. He said something to his friends before making his way over, no doubt telling them he’d just be stepping away for a moment. They all smirked and whispered amongst themselves, watching the man like a hawk as if he were approaching his crush, and the mere thought of you being his crush made your cheeks burn.
“Hey, doll.” Joel greeted you in that thick southern drawl as he approached. “You need some help with the groceries—wait… What’s all this?” He cuts himself off to ask, his tone sounding slightly offended. “Did yer go back to the flea market without me, girl?”
“No, Joel. I would never.” You barked out a laugh and shook your head at the man. “There was a yard sale in the Sunlight Grove neighbourhood. I stopped the car and bought a few things. Look –” you pointed a finger. “–I even bagged this really cool antique mirror.”
“Oh yeah, that is cool.” He agreed, then furrowed his brows a little upon noticing the thick soot and black paint on the mirror. “You can fix that, right?”
“I hope so.”
Reaching for the cardboard box filled with your candles, books and fairy lights, Joel reaches for your summer dress and pulls the straps around his neck, laying the clothing over his chest before turning to his friends with a loud whistle. “Hey pretty boys… Come help me with this thing will yer.” He asked, oh so politely. You and his friends laugh at him plenty, your smile growing bigger and wider over his sense of humour before he turned back to face you and winked. “This dress works a charm. I can see why you bought it, darlin’.”
“That's actually not why I bought it, but thanks Joel.” You giggled and shook your head at him again. Turning away and heading towards your porch steps, you quickly mount the stairs and open the front door then place the cardboard box of goodies to one side momentarily as you help the guys out however you can. Joel didn’t even lift a finger. He just left his buddies to do all the heavy lifting while leading them into your house. He was even swaying your dress around flirtatiously which earned himself a couple catcalls and wolf whistles.
“Getting real comfortable wearing that, aren’t you?” You pointed out and teased, to which he returned the playfulness confidently, “Oh yeah. M-hm. Why? You think it looks pretty on me?”
“Oh yes. It’s very pretty, Joel.” You nod seriously without any trace of a lie in your tone. It actually did look good on him. The pattern and colours paired so well with that dark brown head of hair of his and that deep summer tan on his skin. You often spend every morning reminding him to put sun cream on before heading out to work, sometimes even texting him on your breaks and reminding him to add another layer. He needs that protection, but boy does he look good with a nice golden tan.
“Hey um...” You snap out of your mindless gazing once again. “Do you have any WD-40 in your garage? It will help with removing the paint and soot off the mirror.”
“Yeah, sure. I got a couple cans you can take.”
After the mirror was gently placed in your lounge, you grabbed an old sheet and placed it underneath before heading outside with Joel and the guys. You walked towards his garage and thanked him for letting you take a can of WD-40 as well as borrowing a scraper and some industrial cleaning wipes too. “I wanna get started on the mirror right away, but I’ll come back later and bring a couple beers for you and your friends.”
“Will yer be wearing that pretty dress when you come back to see me with those beers?” He grinned and gathered a sarcastic round of applause from his friends as they all mocked him jokingly. “That’s some next level flirting right there, Joel.” One of his friends said, his words making you stifle a laugh, yet hearing him confirm that Joel was in fact flirting with you made you smile a flattered kind of smile.
As they continued to laugh and jeer at him, you rolled your eyes at their remarks and replied loud enough for them to hear. “Yeah, sure. I’ll wear the dress just for you, Joel.” You throw him a little wink before turning to walk away, the sight of his smile making your stomach flutter and your heart skip a beat. He looked so shy in that moment when his friends honed in on him, as if they were revealing some big secret about how he feels about you. It’s no secret that something is slowly forming between you and the man, but it’s still too soon to assume that it’s more than just friends.
You like Joel’s company. He likes yours. And that’s all there is to it for now.
Upon entering your house and releasing the breath you didn’t realize you were holding, you made your way into the lounge and got to work right away with restoring the mirror. You have a few tips and tricks up your sleeve when it comes to restoration, and WD-40 is just another trick you’ve learned to use along the way. It works wonders for a lot of things around the house too. You used up the last of your own supply the other week when cleaning your bathroom mirror and shower doors, lifting the stained fog straight off the glass.
With a little music playing from your stereo, you took your time removing all the dirt and grime from the mirror bit by bit with gentle scrapes and wipes. It was actually really rather relaxing and enjoyable. You lost track of time as the hours rolled by quickly, and before you knew it, the cicadas and crickets had alarmed you that it was night time outside. You didn’t even notice the sun going down. You were so invested and focused on the mirror instead. It looked a hell of a lot better though. You’ve made a big dent in the progress and can actually see yourself in the reflection now. All that’s left to do is remove the soot and paint from the crevices in the wood.
Reminding yourself of those beers you promised Joel and his friends, you exited the lounge and made your way into the kitchen, then retrieved a four pack of cold Budweiser's from the fridge before heading toward the front door. That summer dress was left hanging on the coat hooks along the wall, and the half-hearted you made to Joel crossed your mind as you contemplated whether or not you should actually wear it for him.
After a moment thinking about it, you set the beers down on the cabinet and reached for the dress, deciding to fulfil all of your promises. Even if you weren’t being serious earlier, you concluded that there really wasn’t any harm in wearing the piece of clothing for him. Besides, you wanted to see how it looked and felt on your body anyways.
You were just in the middle of taking off your sweater when there was a knock at the door, the sound so sudden and startling that it made you gasp and jump on the spot. “Who is it?” You called out.
“It’s just me, doll." Joel answered reassuringly from the other side. You quickly pull your sweater back over your head and hold the dress behind the door as you open it, greeting him with a surprised look on your face. “Hey. I was just about to come outside with those beers when you knocked. It gave me a fight.” You laughed bashfully, noticing the way his eyes dropped to look at your clothes.
“Sorry ‘bout that, darlin’. I came to tell you that me and the guys are going out for dinner. You wanna come with us? They keep badgering me to check out that new diner in town so I thought we could go out instead.” He explained, but his words went right over your head. You didn’t even hear him at first. You were too caught up on the fact he looked at your clothes, checking to see if you’re wearing that dress for him, and the way he looked a little disappointed that you weren’t was saddening. If he had just knocked on your door a few minutes later, then he would have seen that you were wearing it for him.
“Um.. It’s okay, Joel. Don’t worry about it,” you stammered. “I’ll keep the beers for some other time instead. Have fun with the guys…” you pause midway through your sentence with the sudden realization that he actually offered you to go out with him and his friends. You didn’t hear him, and it’s too late now to fix your mistake. He already began nodding with acceptance of your answer, and there was yet another disappointed look in his eyes. “... Y'all stay safe out there too,” you quickly add, finishing your sentence.
“We will.” He nods, then holds your eye contact for a few moments while shuffling on his feet awkwardly. You could see that he was hesitant on deciding whether or not he should lean in and kiss your cheek goodbye, so you took a step forward and prompted him to. He finished closing the gap, and you watched as he closed his eyes when leaning in to plant a chaste kiss on your cheek. His lips were soft and plump, pressed against your skin so gently before he stopped back. It was bliss, and you yearned to feel it again.
“I’ll see yer sometime tomorrow, darlin’." He said with a deep smile that displayed his relief and joy. You know that he saw you holding the dress when he leaned in to kiss you. And you can see with your own eyes that it made him feel less rejected and more optimistic that something was still there between you and him.
“See you tomorrow." You muttered and threw a goodbye wave to his friends waiting for him in the car. They all waved back and quietly said their goodbyes too before one of them opened the back door for Joel to hop in.
You probably should have closed your front door and got back to what you were doing at that point, but you didn’t. You instead waited for him to look at you through the backseat window, and you’re glad that you waited too because when Joel’s eyes met yours, he blew you a kiss and still wore that same joyous smile.
It was as if he could hardly wait to see you tomorrow.

Later that night while laying in bed, the entire house shrouded in darkness and complete silence, you open your eyes the moment after you hear a noise echoing through the walls. It sounded like metal clanging against metal, and it was so faint and barely noticeable at first that you wondered if one of your neighbours were watching something on their TV so loud that you could hear it from here.
You didn’t roll over and close your eyes right away and instead chose to focus on those noises to pinpoint their location. You know Joel is home and laying in bed right now because you were awake at the time when he came back from dinner with his friends. They were so quiet and respectful of how late at night it was, not wanting to disturb your sleeping neighbours.
As that metal clanging noise subsides and is replaced with several men hooting and yelling as they ride horseback, you assumed that someone couldn’t hear the old western movie they were watching and finally rolled over to ignore it. Although you could hear the movie and all of the sound effects, you didn’t mind all that much as you’re used to something playing during the night anyway. Sometimes you even play some music on your phone and turn the volume down low just to have that background noise while you sleep.
Now that you're facing the direction of your window however, you narrow your eyes with focus and just make out the waving beam of light coming through the blinds. It was Joel signalling you. He occasionally does that whenever he sends you a text and you don’t reply, but since your phone was under your pillow, you slip your hand underneath to retrieve it and read his text.
‘Darlin’, you’ve left your TV playing downstairs. I can see your living room lit up with light,’ he wrote and you quickly text him back, replying: ‘Joel, I shut everything off before I came to bed. Are you sure it’s my TV?’
You look at your window again and focus on the gaps between your blinds, noticing that he had climbed out of his bed now to look through his window and check. ‘Yeah, sweetheart,’ you received a text from him, then another one shortly after. ‘It’s definitely your TV. I can hear that it’s a western movie too. I didn’t know you like that sort of stuff :).’
Overlooking how happy that little smiling emoticon made you feel, you couldn’t shift the anxiety in your stomach and decided to just go downstairs and check. Maybe you forgot to turn your TV off after all and you’re worrying over nothing. You quickly shoot another text to Joel before climbing out of bed, ‘Yeah. I like that sort of stuff :). I’m gonna head down and shut it off though. It’s really late and I don't want any complaints from the neighbours, lol.’
Exiting your room with that worry still gnawing away at your gut, you grabbed your metal baseball bat just for precaution and started making your way downstairs. You definitely remember turning everything off and you’re finding difficulty in rationalizing how your TV is even on right now, but as it turs out, Joel was right all along. There was a western movie playing in your living room. You could hear the movie as you walked down the stairs and see the bright flashes of light flicking across your walls.
With another text from Joel chiming through, you look down at your phone and read what the man wrote. ‘What does 'lol' mean?' He asked, and it made you giggle before he quickly sent another text. 'Maybe we could watch a movie together sometime? I’ll bring the snacks and even cook dinner for you.’ His offer made you smile as you think about what it would look like to cosy up on the sofa together.
You entertained the thought for all of two seconds before lifting your head to look at your TV in the living, and seeing that it was shut off instantly brought that panicked feeling back to your stomach by tenfold.
You stood still, frozen in place with fear as you realized where the source of those sounds and bright flashes of light were coming from — behind you in the mirror. It was displaying a series of images and producing sound, and it’s physically impossible that it could even do that, yet you could see those images in the reflection of the black TV screen and hear the sounds over your shoulder. There was a group of men riding horseback yelling as they shot at the sky. It looked so surreal. You couldn’t believe what your eyes were witnessing and your hands began to tremble so violently that you dropped the baseball bat to the floor below.
A flood of text messages came through your phone from Joel, no doubt asking what that clattering noise was or asking if everything is okay. You don’t know for sure. You couldn’t even look away from the TV screen to look at your phone right now. You were too afraid to take your eyes off what you were seeing in the reflection. There was a man lying against a rock around the edge of a campsite, a dark cowboy hat on his head pulled down as he slept peacefully before the next image took over and was replaced by a large oak tree on a hill.
You eventually gathered enough courage to turn around and take a proper look at the mirror. It’s as if you were looking into a TV, the sight unbelievable as it was only hours ago that you saw your own reflection, not what you’re seeing now. There’s no possible explanation as to how it's possible, and despite how afraid you are, there is also a sense of curiosity to know more as well. You continue to watch and drink in the displayed images, watching them cycle through like a slideshow.
The first image was of workers hammering giant nails into an unfinished train track, hence the noise you heard earlier of metal clanging against metal. And the next image was a wide shot of a small town and the land surrounding it, a place that looked to be over one hundred years old. You’re almost certain you saw a big wooden sign over a building that said ‘Saloon’.
But before you could see the next image, your attention was torn towards your front door with Joel pounding his fist against it urgently. “Y/N, open up,” his voice demanded through the wood, “Is everything okay in there, doll? I heard a commotion and I’m worried. C’mon, I need yer to answer me.”
You could hear that concern in his tone and watched as he twisted the handle with force, damn near ready to break the thing before his knuckles began rapping at the door again much louder now. “I’m coming.” You called out shakily.
Walking towards the door and unlocking it, you stepped back as he pushed his way inside and reached out to hold your arm. “What’s wrong, girl? Did someone break in?” He questioned instantly and pulled you close, almost moving you behind him actually, as if he were shielding you from whatever spooked you inside the house. You looked like you had just seen a ghost, and your state of shock worried the man, so it’s no surprise he’s acting so protective right now.
“No — no one broke in." You managed to utter, then pointed a finger in the living room as you fully stepped behind him now and held onto his bicep. “It’s that mirror. Something’s wrong with it.” He looks at you with furrowed brows, as if he couldn’t believe you were so alarmed over a mirror, but his expression softens when he realizes that you’re being genuinely serious. You looked like a deer in the headlights.
Joel decides to take a look by peeping his head inside your living room and sees for himself that the source of light and noise isn’t coming from your TV like he expected. He turned back to look at you with a mildly confused expression and reached past you to shut your front door. “I ain’t ever seen a mirror play a movie like that before.” He said with bewilderment, then stepped into the living room with you to investigate. As he takes a closer look though, he now fully understands why you were so alarmed in the first place and asked: “How the fuck is it doing that?”
“How the hell should I know?” You retort, your voice laced with as much concern as his. Moving towards the mirror together cautiously, you stick to the man’s back like glue and remain close as he scans the object with his eyes and searches for answers.
“I can’t see anything that can explain it,” he mutters cluelessly, “There’s not even a little projector at the top, speakers or a power button to explain how this is possible.” You nod in agreement with him and feel a whole hell of a lot safer that he’s seeing what you are seeing. It was reassuring and validating your reactions that he, too, found it so bizarre and inexplicable. You couldn’t find a rational explanation, and neither could he.
However, curiosity got the better of Joel as he reached out to touch the mirror. It didn’t feel right and you had a horrible feeling in your gut, but before you could even think about stopping him or voicing your concerns, he was sucked inside with so much force that he yanked you in there with him.
You screamed and yelled while falling into a seemingly endless void of darkness. It was no longer than two seconds really, but it felt like an eternity before finally breaching the other side and landing on tall blade of grass with a soft thump. You were beneath a tree... a large oak tree.
And it was the very same oak tree you had seen earlier.

For the Ashford Twins! (cause' they deserve a ask) from this ask game
🌙- Does this oc have any unusual hobbies?
🌱- Does this oc have any pets? Do they have any pets they want?
Ahhh yes one for my girls!
🌙 - *I wouldn't necessarily constitute these as odd hobbies, but I digress*
Beth: If out on a recon, she will find old paintings and bring them back to try and restore them to original condition. Both she and Eva were taught how to paint by Helena when they were young, and it's what helped Beth feel closer to her mother after her death.
Eva: She collects old vintage items, such as pokemon cards or old clothing, although they're rare due to almost everything being destroyed in the ODIN strikes, so she takes what she can get.
🌱 - Does Riley count?
All jokes aside, the Ashford family had three pets; two German shepherds and a Siamese cat. When the ODIN strikes happened, Henry had taken the twins out to a movie that day, they weren't able to get back to the house in time when it was destroyed, so...yeah 😔
