Oh, I have a truly unpopular opinion I was thinking of just this morning! I'm so sorry to break your echo chamber with my most controversial take, but I quite enjoy Grawp. Big fan of the "he's a monster but he's my brother and it's up to me to look out for him" trope in general and it's especially funny when it's known monster lover/risk minimizer Hagrid.
Really, Hagrid's whole family is just *chef's kiss*. I want to put his father in a lab and study him. Very curious about his mother too.
hahah Leo
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
Grawp is the worst, I do however admit it could have added an interesting angle to Hagrid reconciling with his giant heritage. But I am a dyed in the wool Grawp hater, I'm afraid.
I have spent an ungodly amount of times thinking about the mechanics of Hagrid's conception NGL.

Alright I'll be that person. This entirely ignores the fact that Yang absolutely did NOTHING while Ruby yelled at Weiss and makes it look like she only cares about Blake.
Yang a absolutely made it worse because in Ruby's eyes it was basically Yang showing who she valued more right after she's been suffering the entire time in silence while the bees have been flirting the entire volume too wrapped up in each other to notice almost anything else.
From Ruby's pov it's just more of the same.
As the older sibling you can only do the Yang wants to redirect things if she'd done it for Weiss too but she doesn't.
I do not believe for one second this was an older sister thing. Just Yang making a bad choice.
As someone who is both an older sister and raised their younger sibling, let me tell you why this scene was so good
Tumblr media
It would be so easy to misinterpret Yang’s protectiveness over Blake here, but that’s not what’s happening. We’ve always seen Ruby as happy-go-lucky, follow-your-heart and do-the-right-thing, and it’s easy to forget that Yang raised Ruby, and the implied subtext there is that it *wasn’t* always sunshine and rainbows.
Yes, Yang is protective over her newfound relationship. Yes, she’ll maybe feel a little wounded that her sister is lashing out. But what we see here is Yang shifting ever so subtly into mother-mode. Yang knows this isn’t about Blake, or her and Blake’s relationship, she’s stepping in front of Blake to protect her before Ruby can say or do something she regrets. In essence, protecting both of them and trying to control the situation from escalating. Yang is stepping in front because she can take it, she’s GIVING her someone to yell at, because god knows she’s probably had to, at some point, take some lip in the past while the others have only ever known her as a strong, positive leader. She doesn’t shout at Ruby, she’s calm, lets her get it out and just looks sternly with a simple “Hey!” as in, ‘hey, that’s enough now’.
Yang has expressed concern, and is concerned, but this is 100% Yang shifting into parent mode. This is brilliant because earlier in the episode and even last episode we’ve seen examples of Yang’s ‘concerned big sister’ side which is soft and supportive. There’s no malice in Yang’s expression, and it’s difficult to catch it because we haven’t had the best representations of ‘good mothers’ in the show, especially not ones that have had to chastise their kids at some point, but you can bet your ass that this is Yang’s parental mode stepping in to bring calm and stability to a chaotic situation. And that doesn’t always present as ‘let’s hug this out’, sometimes it’s stern, tough love and recognising that the younger one isn’t in the space to receive comfort, so the best you can do for them is diffuse the situation and be an authoritative voice of reason because she recognises her sister’s fragile mental state.
This is without going into how amazing Ruby’s portrayal was. Going after your sister’s new relationship is RAW, and personal, but it’s also what siblings do - they lash out sometimes when they’re under stress. The way Ruby says ‘we’re sOoOo happy for you by the way good for you’ - just SMACKS of younger sibling cutting loose and saying something they don’t mean, which makes Yang’s response all the more realistic for me. She recognises the tone, the almost-petulance and steps in before it can go any further.
It’s so subtle, but it SPOKE to me so massive kudos to Miles Luna and the animators for this. And god bless the clowns that use it as some sort of Anti-Bees discourse - the nuance is entirely lost on you.

Always an experience watching the leftism leave FNAF fans when someone mentions that Scott Cawthon financially backed fascist politicians.
The switch from posting hardline leftist tweets about boycotts and signal boosts and critical takedowns of politicians and celebrities to ‘ohhh, well. everyone makes mistakes. who can blame him, listen he. he donated money to gay charities too. that makes it ok! a millionaire in his forties is allowed to have political beliefs. does it even matter? just let it go!’ is whiplash inducing. The antivaxxer celebrities have got to go, but this one horror dev who quietly handed wads of cash to antivax lawmakers? He’s chill, he can stay.
The charity thing is so funny too because suddenly utilitarian positive-negative point counting is the way to go. Maybe an abacus would help calculate the net good of donating to the Trevor Project minus donating thousands of dollars to Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. -10 points if I push a kid in a lake but +11 points if I help an old lady across the street, so I’m chill. You can’t judge me. Hey, maybe. Just don’t push a kid in the lake period. How fucking low is the bar when we’re excusing maxing out the possible dollar amount of donations to Mitch fucking McConnell. That should be like. Default you’re a bad person.

...at least that's the link order that made most sense to me
[Image ID:
Clownillustrations' Welcome Home fanart. Wally Darling is drawn at an angle slightly from below, lacking his mouth, and the eyes wide open and bright white looking the viewer. In front of him, along his height through the middle of his face, a long stripe made of the blurry Welcome Home website screenshots, glowing. Behind him is a vinyl record with a plain red label.
The background is littered with text, a wall of repeating "Let me in." from top to bottom to the left of the image, Wally's dialogue behind him, and the text on the foreground, slightly corrupted, says "I will help you understand neighbor I will find a way soon"
End ID]

When people call the Jedi Order baby stealers, I always wonder if they watched the episode series where Palpatine, the big bad Sith Lord, has Cad Bane break into the Jedi Temple to steal a holocron that contains a record of recently born Force-sensitive children and then use it to go kidnap those kids. And he successfully kidnaps two of them before the Jedi catch up at the third planet, where the mom is surprised that the Jedi, Cad in disguise, is back so soon for her child, as she was told that it would be some months to a year before the Jedi came to get her kid. Which shoots the whole baby stealing argument in the foot. The actual baby stealer is told that the people he is impersonating weren’t coming back as early as he was, and it’s only because Cad is exceptionally skilled at his job that he is able to convince the mom to give up her child. It can also be reasonably assumed that the Jedi act the same way in regards to every parent who has a Force-sensitive child, which make the only baby stealers in the galaxy the Sith, the bad guys, and anyone they employ to help them, who would also be bad guys.

Maybe it's just me but I did not have any strong emotions about Orym saying that the Wildmother was not "his god". My thoughts during that were just "well ya of course." I didn't see it as a moment where he showed a change of heart. I wasn't surprised or caught off guard. Nothing about it seemed new.

My favorite shen jiu fun fact is that he gave a faulty cultivation manual to a bouncing baby boy binghe so that when binghe used it he would erupt and burst like a flesh balloon. And then had a little sulk moment in a cave being mad it didn't work. Like what the fuck. The most character of all time.

always thinking about Jyn choosing to die with Cassian despite not being critically injured instead of like… trying to find a way to survive. after like a few days of knowing him? their codependency is insane. idk what they'd be like if they actually had the chance to know and love each other, but I just know they wouldn't wanna live without each other
