The Banana Republic
In 1977 the Republicans in Congress forced then president Jimmy Carter to sell his families peanut farm because they feared that some entity would use it to funnel money to the president. Well, not really, but it was a justifiable concern. Carter, did the right thing and sold it because he didn't want to give even the appearance of impropriety. The country had just come off of the Nixon scandals and Ford's unsolicited pardon to "heal" the country.
In 2016, a new president decided differently. Instead of divesting in his businesses or at least putting them in a blind trust where he wouldn't have undo influence on their profits, Trump decided to hand off his businesses to his sons, but did not take himself out of the loop. In fact, it is more than speculated that a few foreign nations and local oligarchs paid Trump, his businesses, or his hotels large amounts of money to "influence" him. There were halted investigations that proved that foreign nations paid Trump in various ways to get what they wanted.
This is the sort of thing that goes on in corrupt nations, and sadly, America is just as corrupt as any Eastern European nation during the reign of Communist Russia. Tomorrow, Trump is getting back into office, but this time he isn't just content to get millions of dollars from foreign nations through his hotels, or tax funded trips to Saudi Arabia or Davos. Nope, now he has a new con, and a much better way to hide the vast amounts of money nations like China or Russia will be willing to pay him just to get what they want.
Cryptocurrency is a godsend for someone like Trump. Anyone from anywhere can buy into it, but it doesn't really exist. It's like money for nothing. Except it isn't going to be nothing. We aren't going to be able to monitor who buys this illusionary currency put out by Donald Trump, and it is absolutely guaranteed that someone in Trump's orbit is going to suggest to all those entities who have business in America exactly what they have to do to get what they want. It's just modern day bribery in the Banana Republic of America.
President's often got out of office with major debts they had to repay. That didn't happen to Trump last time, and it's absolutely guaranteed that it isn't going to happen this time. The man doesn't know anything about running the country, but he sure knows how to pull off a con, often badly. A lot of very bad things are going to happen to this country. After all, a man who's only concern is how much money he can make, doesn't have the countries interests at heart.

“A representative democracy, where the right of election is well secured and regulated & the exercise of the legislative, executive and judiciary authorities, is vested in select persons, chosen really and not nominally by the people, will in my opinion be most likely to be happy, regular and durable.” --ALEXANDER HAMILTON, in a letter to New Jersey Governor Morris, 1777
This article* by George Thomas, a professor at Claremont McKenna College, provides a rebuttal to the MAGA Republicans who claim that the U.S. "is a republic, not a democracy," as if the two were mutually exclusive, and as if that were an excuse for minority party rule and/or the establishment of an autocracy. Below are some excerpts:
Dependent on a minority of the population to hold national power, Republicans such as Senator Mike Lee of Utah have taken to reminding the public that “we’re not a democracy.” It is quaint that so many Republicans, embracing a president* who routinely tramples constitutional norms, have suddenly found their voice in pointing out that, formally, the country is a republic. There is some truth to this insistence. But it is mostly disingenuous. The Constitution was meant to foster a complex form of majority rule, not enable minority rule. The founding generation was deeply skeptical of what it called “pure” democracy and defended the American experiment as “wholly republican.” To take this as a rejection of democracy misses how the idea of government by the people, including both a democracy and a republic, was understood when the Constitution was drafted and ratified. It misses, too, how we understand the idea of democracy today. When founding thinkers such as James Madison spoke of democracy, they were usually referring to direct democracy, what Madison frequently labeled “pure” democracy. Madison made the distinction between a republic and a direct democracy exquisitely clear in “Federalist No. 14”: “In a democracy, the people meet and exercise the government in person; in a republic, they assemble and administer it by their representatives and agents. A democracy, consequently, will be confined to a small spot. A republic may be extended over a large region.” Both a democracy and a republic were 'popular' forms of government: Each drew its legitimacy from the people and depended on rule by the people. The crucial difference was that a republic relied on representation, while in a “pure” democracy, the people represented themselves. [color/ emphasis added]
I strongly encourage people to read the entire article. The link above is from the Internet Archive and is accessible to all.

"The empire is only partially based on nazi germany, it's actually primarily based off the united sta-"
NO!! IT ISN'T!!
George Lucas has been very clear! The empire is very explicitly based off of the nazis thematically, aesthetically, politically and in methodology!
There is only one-ONE!-instance of Lucas comparing the empire to the US, and it's when he compares the fight between the Rebels and the empire to Vietnam against the US, but he wasn't talking about the politics of the two or making some kind a commentary on the US! Lucas was talking about the numerical and technological disparity between Vietnam/the Rebels and the empire/US, he wasn't saying the US is the empire!
The major US analogy in SW is the late Republic of the prequels, with the political corruption and out of control capitalism and the power of corporations over government, but its ultimately still an exaggeration and Lucas makes a point of saying (through the Jedi and Senators like Padme/Bail) that the Republic is still worth saving, it can be good, and it's end is ultimately a tragedy and loss for the galaxy
Honestly this whole stupid "empire is the US" thing is just childish "US bad" mindset, contrarianism, and tankie "the US is uniquely evil and source of evil" nonsense all mixed together and applied to SW in an attempt at coming off as enlightened

Republic of Venice 🫡
I’ve been super into the Medieval European history recently and Venice is pretty awesome.
Venice was also originally a glorified self insert for me when I was a fetus in 2012 so I decided to save her from that fate lol. Original version under the cut. Beware.

I have been following the Russian-Ukrainian conflict from the beginning. When Ukrainians began attacking Russian civilians and civilian infrastructure with Western weapons, the Western media and leaders said- "There is nothing wrong in attacking citizens; the citizens must know that their government's forced occupation of Ukraine can lead to such attacks. War can come to their doorsteps, they must revolt against Putin." However, the same hypocritical West has been declaring every attack on Israel by Palestinian resistance groups as a terrorist attack.
