Do think it's very crunchy that WWX only defends his new flavor of the month in the ancestral hall. Not himself. Not WN, to whom JC did arguably have a life debt and for whom WWX did dump JC. Not any of these old things; just the shiny new hot powerful protective dude that he doesn't have any meaningful preexisting bond with and that he's been falling for since returning and running away from his previous life.

Just the perfect, serene blank slate of novelty (and the guilty undercurrent of once again feeling something that isn't socially acceptable and won't be welcome).

I understand why some people get annoyed by focusing on a small thing mentioned about a character

but at the same time if we only know like five things about someone why wouldn't you??

like Colin's only mentioned as having a camera in COS because it was always just for plot convenience but you can pry him having one for the whole series out of my cold dead fingers because it's one of the few defining things we have about him and anytime I've ever seen him written without one he just feels wrong and like that is not my boy

Lavender only mentions rabbits once when talking about her pet binky dying but again that is now a part of her she will now never not have bunny rabbit associations to me

Percy is not in the little known about him category as much but I feel the same way about him liking Divination too yeah it's mentioned once and in a way you could technically argue against but nope he will always like divination to me now because of it

Sure!!

Those four are a special group of monkies commonly known as the guardians

They watch over and govern the grove (which is the area where all my funny monkies live)

They’re immortal! And pretty powerful- they’re responsible for making each and every monkey in the grove, but that’s about all they do- they don’t raise the life they create they just leave it to the community in the grove to handle that

There used to be five guardians! Now there’s only four (Scarab, Shimmer, Sun and Silk)

As a whole the group tend to have this unreasonably high standard of perfection- characters like Quinn, Atlas and Bea are often ostracised and outcast for their “imperfections” whereas characters like Capuchin are praised heavily practically Just For Existing (until he died lol)

I’d say out of the four of them Scarab is the nicest, but he’s still. Not fantastic. He does his best-! But he doesn’t stand up to the others nearly as much as he should and he lets them get away with a lot

Also! As a fun fact- all these guys started off as adopts that I couldn’t sell, I ended up keeping the designs and here we are

hi im ranting (positively! this game kills me but in a good way) about breath of the wild again

i know it's controversial but i love the way the story of the game is told. because you start the game in the middle, perhaps near the end, of the story. the game is entirely through link's perspective and he wakes up knowing and remembering nothing. in turn, the player starts off knowing nothing. the past is revealed as the story goes along, and the player learns about the past and about the land as link does. there are little tidbits about hyrule and about the calamity scattered across the land. an old woman in hateno village tells you of an age of desolation that she grew up in. the travellers you see on the road are younger people because they're described by older characters as more bold, whereas the older characters grew up being told to never leave the village, it's too dangerous outside (compare this even to tears of the kingdom, where travellers are more common because the land has been safer. even older characters have left their home to travel elsewhere (not including the lurelin villagers)). battlefields are still strewn with old rusty weapons and deactivated guardians that no one but monsters will go near. myths and legends about the princess and hero have been passed down, to the point where their legitmacy is questioned and everyone has a different opinion on them.

it's environmental storytelling. it's things like seeing drawings and a bow in zelda's study and seeing a child reading a storybook with a hero that wears a blue tunic similar to link's. it's the stories that the villagers share about old myths that turn out to be true. it's the ruins scattered across the land, long since overtaken by monster camps but still unmistakably being houses that people once lived in. it's the utter lack of civilization anywhere remotely near the castle and the feeling of dread in the ruins of the town that surrounds it. it's a kingdom entrenched in its past, with no ability to move away from it until the calamity is finally defeated.

After two-ish months of not writing, getting back to it this morning, no matter how small, felt wonderful. Hopefully this means I'm slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things and I'll start posting writing again in a month or two. I'm not going to force anything and I'm trying very hard to rewire my brain so that I don't feel guilty when I don't write. And focus on the positives, like the fact I wrote at all.
