In India, children under 16 returning to school this month at the start of the school year will no longer be taught about evolution, the periodic table of elements or sources of energy.
The news that evolution would be cut from the curriculum for students aged 15–16 was widely reported last month, when thousands of people signed a petition in protest. But official guidance has revealed that a chapter on the periodic table will be cut, too, along with other foundational topics such as sources of energy and environmental sustainability. Younger learners will no longer be taught certain pollution- and climate-related topics, and there are cuts to biology, chemistry, geography, mathematics and physics subjects for older school students.
Overall, the changes affect some 134 million 11–18-year-olds in India’s schools. The extent of what has changed became clearer last month when the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) — the public body that develops the Indian school curriculum and textbooks — released textbooks for the new academic year that started in May.
Researchers, including those who study science education, are shocked. “Anybody who’s trying to teach biology without dealing with evolution is not teaching biology as we currently understand it,” says Jonathan Osborne, a science-education researcher at Stanford University in California. “It’s that fundamental to biology.” The periodic table explains how life’s building blocks combine to generate substances with vastly different properties, he adds, and “is one of the great intellectual achievements of chemists”.
Mythili Ramchand, a science-teacher trainer at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, India, says that “everything related to water, air pollution, resource management has been removed. “I don’t see how conservation of water, and air [pollution], is not relevant for us. It’s all the more so currently,” she adds. A chapter on different sources of energy — from fossil fuels to renewables — has also been removed. “That’s a bit strange, quite honestly, given the relevance in today’s world,” says Osborne.
More than 4,500 scientists, teachers and science communicators have signed an appeal organized by Breakthrough Science Society, a campaign group based in Kolkata, India, to reinstate the axed content on evolution.
NCERT has not responded to the appeal. And although it relied on expert committees to oversee the changes, it has not yet engaged with parents and teachers to explain its rationale for making them. NCERT also did not reply to Nature’s request for comment.
Chapters closed
A chapter on the periodic table of elements has been removed from the syllabus for class-10 students, who are typically 15–16 years old. Whole chapters on sources of energy and the sustainable management of natural resources have also been removed.
A small section on Michael Faraday’s contributions to the understanding of electricity and magnetism in the nineteenth century has also been stripped from the class-10 syllabus. In non-science content, chapters on democracy and diversity; political parties; and challenges to democracy have been scrapped. And a chapter on the industrial revolution has been removed for older students.
In explaining its changes, NCERT states on its website that it considered whether content overlapped with similar content covered elsewhere, the difficulty of the content, and whether the content was irrelevant. It also aims to provide opportunities for experiential learning and creativity.
NCERT announced the cuts last year, saying that they would ease pressures on students studying online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amitabh Joshi, an evolutionary biologist at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in Bengaluru, India, says that science teachers and researchers expected that the content would be reinstated once students returned to classrooms. Instead, the NCERT shocked everyone by printing textbooks for the new academic year with a statement that the changes will remain for the next two academic years, in line with India’s revised education policy approved by government in July 2020.
“The idea [behind the new policy] is that you make students ask questions,” says Anindita Bhadra, an evolutionary biologist at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Kolkata. But she says that removing fundamental concepts is likely to stifle curiosity, rather than encourage it. “The way this is being done, by saying ‘drop content and teach less’”, she says, “that’s not the way you do it”.
Evolution axed
Science educators are particularly concerned about the removal of evolution. A chapter on diversity in living organisms and one called ‘Why do we fall ill’ has been removed from the syllabus for class-9 students, who are typically 14–15 years old. Darwin’s contributions to evolution, how fossils form and human evolution have all been removed from the chapter on heredity and evolution for class-10 pupils. That chapter is now called just ‘Heredity’. Evolution, says Joshi, is essential to understanding human diversity and “our place in the world”.
In India, class 10 is the last year in which science is taught to every student. Only students who elect to study biology in the final two years of education (before university) will learn about the topic.
Joshi says that the curriculum revision process has lacked transparency. But in the case of evolution, “more religious groups in India are beginning to take anti-evolution stances”, he says. Some members of the public also think that evolution lacks relevance outside academic institutions.
Aditya Mukherjee, a historian at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Dehli, says that changes to the curriculum are being driven by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a mass-membership volunteer organization that has close ties to India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party. The RSS feels that Hinduism is under threat from India’s other religions and cultures.
“There is a movement away from rational thinking, against the enlightenment and Western ideas” in India, adds Sucheta Mahajan, a historian at Jawaharlal Nehru University who collaborates with Mukherjee on studies of RSS influence on school texts. Evolution conflicts with creation stories, adds Mukherjee. History is the main target, but “science is one of the victims”, she adds.
==
Well, at least it'll put them on par with the anti-science and biology-denial of US classrooms. China no longer has anything to worry about.

Interview: Everything Everything’s Jonathan Higgs on AI, Education, & New LP ‘Mountainhead’
by Eric Schuster
Tumblr media
Atwood Magazine: Each album you all release has a unique style and theme. I read that Mountainhead draws from an allegory regarding “an alternate society whose existence is dedicated to endlessly growing a mountain by digging deeper at its foot — all in pursuit of a mythical mirror that sits atop its peak while avoiding a massive golden snake that lives in the pit below.” What are some of your favorite sci-fi films or novels?
Jonathan Higgs: Definitely Predator. Definitely Terminator. I like any sort of sci-fi slasher genre like that, like Alien where there’s people being picked off by a monster. It’s not very close to what I’ve written though, for this album. Yeah, I think I was looking for something that was simple enough to say in one sentence, but that could have a huge amount of different meanings if you wanted it to. I guess it would be something like, I don’t even know. It’s way too simple for a film. I think it would have to develop a hell of a lot more, but I think in terms of music, it’s sort of enough to hang everything off without it getting too complex and too bogged down with these rules of the world. It was more like, no, there’s just this big one, big idea and everything is sort of under the shadow of that rather than getting too conceptual kind of puts me off if particularly if albums get too wrapped up in detail and all that stuff. It’s fine for films or novels, it’s essential. But I think when you are making something like an album, it needs to be, the songs need to live without that knowledge. They need to be able to be good by themselves
That’s why it has such a simple setup, because I think anything, I think you can go a bit further, but I want you to keep it really monolithic and simple.
You tackle some big issues in Mountainhead, like the unsustainability of unlimited growth and income inequality and Raw Data Feel tackled the problems associated with AI. Do you see AI helping or exacerbating these issues?
Jonathan Higgs: I think it’ll help a little bit. I don’t see why it would make things worse. It’ll probably be some big tech advances that it’ll help speed up things like sustainability is the big one that everyone’s trying to do, so I don’t see how that could make things worse, but it does, of course, rely on some kind of thing. They keep mining for chips, right? I can’t remember. But there is quite a big environmental impact of making the brains of AI and obviously we’ve seen with crypto what sort of length people will go to improve their computing power and how much energy that uses, et cetera, et cetera. But no, I think it’s probably going to help bring about some of the stuff that we need to happen a bit more quickly, like renewable, wherever that may be. Some kind of advancement will probably occur thanks to ai, but it’s not just a one solution type thing. It’s more like it just looks through the options much more quickly. That’s kind of how I feel about it.
You all are very academic and methodical in your approach to writing music and creating art. Do you have any artists that you are currently listening to that are also pushing the boundaries of music?
Jonathan Higgs: I’m more in touch with what some visual people are doing. There’s this guy called Umami who makes these amazing short videos and he’s made this big long series of them and he does do music in it as well, but it’s primarily like an animation project, and I follow a lot of 3D horror guys. I mean, that’s not music either, really. And I guess musically, oh man, this year has been thin on the ground. It’s only a month in, it’s only a few weeks in. I don’t know. I’m not really tuned into anything new at the moment. I guess it’s because I’m working on other projects, I’m just trying to clear my head of musical stuff at the moment, so I can’t suggest anything.
Your website Edexhell mocked the exam quality that you were issued in school, what do you think of the current state of education?
Jonathan Higgs: I have no idea, is the truth. I don’t have any connection to people of that age. Well, my brother’s kids I guess are teenagers, but it’s Scotland and things tend to be better up there anyway. I don’t actually know. Actually, just about an hour ago I read a report saying that girls are doing better than boys at every age from primary up to uni. And that made me ponder for a moment. I dunno if that’s a problem with education, but there’s definitely something going on there, which is pretty odd. But also my mom, she’s retired now, but she was a teacher and teachers used to get it in the neck so much when I was growing up that I kind of made a soft promise to myself never to diss the education. Well, teachers in particular, I think it’s generally the same as it was. I don’t know, is the truth. I’m not involved.
Did you all see the movie Everything Everything and if so what did you think? How do you feel that they co-opted your name?
Jonathan Higgs: No, we didn’t see it. We were not very pleased with that, to be honest. It meant that 99% of Google searches for us just end up with that. Nothing against the film, but it can fuck off.
What job do you think you would have if you were not a musician?
Jonathan Higgs: I’d be in movies. I think I’d be making them, not in them. I’d be somewhere along the creative line, hopefully directing, but who knows? I could happily do that now. I do that now. I’ve directed, most of our music videos have been by me, so yeah, I enjoy that hugely.
Do you have any favorite directors?
Jonathan Higgs: Yeah, well, there’s a lot of good ones at the moment, aren’t there? I really liked Robert Eggers. I thought The Northman was brilliant. I know it was a bit silly, but I absolutely loved it. I just saw Poor Things. I thought that was pretty good. I think it’s actually a pretty great time for film at the moment. This year’s last year’s Oscar bait sort of, well, not Oscar bait, but just the things that are about to get awards in about a month and lots of really great stuff. I thought Anatomy of a Fall was amazing. I’ll always watch whatever Ridley s Scott’s up to. Yeah, I prefer, I get more excited, not prefer, but I get more excited about movies than albums recently just because I’m not, I feel like I’m so in bed with music that it’s a bit like work sometimes and movies is a bit more like I can be a fan rather than somebody who’s involved.
You mentioned that the mirror at the top of Mountainhead represents the fact that even if “you’ve got it all, what have you really got?” What is your favorite material item that you own and why?
Jonathan Higgs: Oh, my PC, no question. I’ve had a PC since I was in middle school, and then there was a long period where I didn’t have one and then I got one again and I was like, fuck, why did I have that period in my life without one? It’s the best tool a human has ever created, easily outside of the stick. It’s brilliant. I absolutely love it for creating. The power I have as one person now compared to when I was a kid on a computer is just extraordinary. The things I can make, the level of quality that you can make now the consumer can make is astounding.
This album deals with what it means to be a “human,” which is something that has been explored for centuries but has gotten harder to define as technology has infiltrated our everyday lives. What do you think are the best ways to connect with other people?
Jonathan Higgs: Sitting round a fire, the oldest one, it’s always being the best one, but if you can’t do that, then face-to-Face Place with breathable air is probably the next best thing. And obviously you can’t always do that, but doing what we’re doing now is okay.
A lot of songwriters seem to slow down as their careers progress, but you all are as prolific as ever, perhaps even more so now. Where do you find the creative energy (and literal energy) to keep creating such thought-provoking and high-intensity albums?
Jonathan Higgs: Well, I don’t have kids, so I’ve got all the energy I ever had, and a lot of my job is sitting down, so to be honest, I could use up more of my energy. In fact, a lot of my songs are about the fact that I don’t use my energy, don’t use my body. So I’ve never had a problem with that. We don’t really get, well, I don’t really get drained of juice because I don’t think making an album is very difficult. Really. We’ve done it seven times and making another one doesn’t sound difficult either. Making a good album is quite hard though.
You said it's not very physical, but that music video for Cold Reactor, you guys are out there in the cold and that looked pretty physical.
Jonathan Higgs: Well, that was a big day. We actually made five music videos that day.
Oh my god.
Jonathan Higgs: Yeah, we did all the whole album’s worth in one day, and there was a big storm that was coming into the Slate Mine, where we were. So that had a bit of a hard limit on it in terms of when we could be there. We were about to die, so that made it kind of fun.
Manchester is a modestly sized city in comparison to many other major cities in the world, yet some of the biggest and best bands of the last half-century have formed there. What do you think it is about Manchester that makes it such a hot-spot for artists?
Jonathan Higgs: It rains all the time. There’s lots and lots of venues that are good, and I think there’s good unis, so there’s good students starting bands, but there’s also this culture of music that’s already, what, forty years old, and I think people go there with the intention of being involved in music, whereas you wouldn’t get that in a lot of cities. I mean, I’m one of those people. I’m not really from Manchester, and I went there to start a band. I knew that was a place where bands could exist. It’s not like a fantastical idea that you might start a band, whereas there’s plenty of places you can go and no one will join your band. Manchester’s always been good for that. I think it self perpetuates really. Now we’ve got this culture and we’ve got this history. Then it generates more good bands.
You all have accomplished a ton in your Manchester is a modestly sized city in comparison to many other major cities in the world, yet some of the biggest and best bands of the last half-century have formed there. What do you think it is about Manchester that makes it such a hot-spot for artists?
Jonathan Higgins: It rains all the time. There’s lots and lots of venues that are good, and I think there’s good unis, so there’s good students starting bands, but there’s also this culture of music that’s already, what, forty years old, and I think people go there with the intention of being involved in music, whereas you wouldn’t get that in a lot of cities. I think it self perpetuates really. Now we’ve got this culture and we’ve got this history. Then it generates more good bands.
You all have accomplished a ton in your tenure as a group. Is there anything you still hope to accomplish in your musical career?
Jonathan Higgs: Career? Oh yeah, definitely. We want a number one album. We want to headline Glastonbury Asbury, all the things that a band could ever want. I feel like we’ve achieved 1% of it, 8% of it. So yeah, you name it. I’d love to have a whole new chapter of the band.

I was just on the welcome home site and I need to get this out
So just like with Coraline and DHMIS, symbolism is a HUGE deal when it comes to WH. For example; Wally's little pose ⬇️
Tumblr media
means "As Above, So Below" which has been paraphrased from its original English translation; "That which is above is like to that which is below, and which is below is like to that which is above." (It's a quote from the Emerald Tablet in case anyone is interested) You might recognise the quote from the movie of the same name, or the pose from Jack's picture at the end of The Shining.
Basically, it means that the two planes of existence present within the WH ARG correspond with each other.
Other common symbolisms include:
Apples - beauty, sweetness and the hope for prosperity, strength, growth, death, immortality, temptation, knowledge, rebirth.
"In Celtic tradition, apples were buried at Samhain as food for those souls who are waiting to be reborn." - Some dodgy website so take it with a grain of salt.
Not to mention how apples were also associated with the Underworld in Greek mythology.
Butterflies - Transformation, growth, renewal, rebirth, bravery, hope, positive change, freedom. ("Black butterflies are associated with sickness in many Native American cultures")
"Celtic mythology regards butterflies as a symbol of the soul. There's an old Irish saying that goes "Butterflies are souls of the dead waiting to pass through Purgatory." They're thought to be able to cross into other realms and also represent transformation, creation, and rebirth." - The exact same website.
Feathers - I'm getting lazy
Spirals - Spiritual development and our identity with the universe. Came from the idea of a "stairway" to heaven. In the occult system and esoterica, the single spiral is representative of the way to the higher level of consciousness. It represents the pattern of growth and the utilizer of nature’s life-inducing, life-protecting, and life-supporting energy. (aka my favourite symbol ever)
Hearts - The heart icon becomes a major symbol for medieval heraldry, where it is used to signify sincerity and clarity. In art and chivalric literature, the heart is increasingly seen as synonymous to the Holy Grail. In fact, early decks of playing cards even use the Grail instead of the heart symbol as an icon. The heart symbol is assiociated with religious and spiritual symbolism as well as the profane and sexual, or even with evil.
Have you ever heard the phrase "Home is where the heart is"?
Stars - Positivity, happiness, renewal, and in the context of certain industries they symbolize excellence, professionalism, quality, and imagination.
Eyes - Good or evil. Focus, truth, clarity, light, vision, prophecy, awareness, observation. The spiritual eyes is a reflection of the cosmic energy entering the body and sustaining it.
Circles - Totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, god.
That's the gist of it
Also I made this list a while ago and I really don't feel like going in and altering everything
so I'm not going to. Sorry.

🌲 What is Deforestation? 🌲
🌍 Welcome to Clean Earth Fun Facts! 🌍
Welcome back to Clean Earth Fun Facts, where we share the most fun and enlightening facts about our beautiful planet and how we can all contribute to keeping it clean and green! Today, we're diving into a crucial topic that affects us all: deforestation.
🌲 What is Deforestation? 🌲
Deforestation refers to the large-scale removal of forests, often to make way for agriculture, urban development, or logging. This process has significant impacts on the environment, biodiversity, and climate.
📉 The Impact of Deforestation 📉
Loss of Biodiversity: Forests are home to 80% of terrestrial animals and plants. When forests are cut down, countless species lose their habitat, leading to a decline in biodiversity.
Climate Change: Trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and release oxygen. Deforestation increases CO2 levels in the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and climate change.
Soil Erosion: Without tree roots to anchor the soil, erosion can occur, leading to loss of fertile land and increased sediment in rivers.
Disruption of Water Cycles: Trees play a crucial role in the water cycle, helping to maintain the balance of water in the atmosphere. Deforestation can disrupt this balance, affecting rainfall patterns and water availability.
🌱 Solutions to Combat Deforestation 🌱
Reforestation and Afforestation: Planting trees in deforested areas and creating new forests can help restore ecosystems and absorb CO2.
Sustainable Forestry: Using sustainable logging practices and supporting certified sustainable wood products can help reduce the impact on forests.
Conservation Efforts: Protecting existing forests through the establishment of protected areas and wildlife reserves is vital for preserving biodiversity.
Education and Awareness: Educating communities about the importance of forests and how they can help protect them is crucial for long-term conservation.
🌿 Fun Fact 🌿
Did you know that forests cover about 31% of the Earth's land area? They play a vital role in sustaining life on our planet by providing oxygen, storing carbon, and supporting countless species.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gay Sunshine was a gay liberation tabloid based in Berkeley, CA, that eventually evolved into a gay literary magazine under its editor Winston Leyland. This issue, from March 1971, predates the change and instead reports on events impacting queer communities of the time, such as prison reform, war, and new community resources. Transcripts of the reports are below the read more.
The Browne Popular Culture Library (BPCL), founded in 1969, is the most comprehensive archive of its kind in the United States.  Our focus and mission is to acquire and preserve research materials on American Popular Culture (post 1876) for curricular and research use. Visit our website at https://www.bgsu.edu/library/pcl.html.
Free Gay Prisoners
NEW YORK – Gay people demonstrated February 27 at the Tombs (the notorious city prison in lower Manhattan) in support of all Lesbians, transvestites and Gay males held in the nations (sic) jails. Gays were particularly outraged by the murder of Raymond Lavon Moore, a Black Gay male, in the Tombs last fall (Gay Sunshine #5) and in response are organizing a Gay Community Prisoner Defense Committee to provide bail for the many Gay people who would otherwise rot in jail. One of the demands will be that Richard Harris, a Black Gay male who witnessed the guards murdering Moore be released. The Young Lords raised his bail, but the city revoked it. WE MUST EXPOSE THE PRISONS FOR THE SNAKEPITS THEY ARE.
Raid!
MINNEAPOLIS – A new Gay club opened and was raided all in one night. “The Club” at 916 Hennepin was the first Gay place raided in the Twin Cities in years. At 2 AM police began to filter in and at 2:45 the tactical squad ordered everybody out. A few resisted and the pigs busted the owner and an employee. Apparently the straight owners of a couple of other bars were uneasy about the opening of this relatively low profit club by Gay people. GLF people believe the straight bar owners will try to close down the new club if it develops any relationship with Gay Liberation. – From MPLS FREE newsletter
sf REPORT
The shots at the Stud last December, while not heard round the world were at least heard by enough brothers to attempt to reactivate the San Francisco GLF. This renewed SF/GLF was successful in sponsoring a benefit that raised over $700 for the defence (sic) of Chuck Christman, victim of the Stud incident, and for the establishment of a Gay Defense Front.
SF/GLF meets every Sunday at 8PM in the Project One Building at 10th and Howard. First there is a general rap. Then the brothers present form several small groups for more rapping, finally meeting as a whole for a summary of what each group has discussed.
The object is to develop the cores of strength, people who know and trust each other enough to work together for a goal. This goal could be anything from direct action, street theater, a commune, or gay job alternatives.
San Francisco has been described as a city where we gays have it too good. It takes a real crisis to get us off our asses. GLF could prevent these crises, or it could die on the vine again. GLF also attracts a lot of trashing and returns it in kind. I’ve been told a GLF meeting is a waste of time, usually by people who have only gone once or twice.
GLF in San Francisco will only be as effective as the people who turn out time and time again want it to be. I hope that you will come and help us.
Out of Laos
BERKELEY – Gay women and men along with a lot of others, were in the streets several days in a row protesting the U.S. invasion of Laos and widened war in Indo-China. One Berkeley cop was beaten, his club and pistol snatched away, an Atomic Energy Commission car turned over and set on tire, and an AEC truck and a few windows smashed. Pigs busted only a few people. The war goes on. Is it to be a 30 year war, or perhaps a 100 years war? Smash the State, sisters and brothers.
Mardi Gras Busts
NEW ORLEANS – February was Mardi Gras time and the city cops and military police called in to control civilians were just busting everybody, says Rev. David Solomon, a coordinator of N.O. GLF. One Gay male was busted and beaten four separate times in the station house. GLF worked as part of the Mardi Gras coalition to provide housing, medical care, legal aid, etc. to people visiting N.O. during the Mardi Gras.
N.O. GLF is only about four months old, but had been planning some kind of action during the Mardi Gras, but decided to let the idea die as it became clear they couldn’t adequately house and care for people to might be attracted to such an event.
100 people picketed city hall for four days protesting police entrapment, including 13 people in a single week. Solomon says the ten-year reign of District Attorney Jim Garrison has been especially oppressive for Gay people.
WOMEN’S CENTER
San Francisco – A Women’s Center is getting together on the third floor of the Project One Building at 10th and Howard in S.F. A speakers bureau, child care center, films, publications and information are available throughout the center. On the first Monday and second Tuesday of each month there is an orientation meeting for women interested in a small group. Mass meetings are every other Monday. Gay Womens (sic) Liberation meets at 7:30 on Fridays. S.F. GLF (mostly males) meets at 8 pnm Sundays at Fort Help, on the first floor of the same building.
D.O.B.
Gay sisters in the Daughters of Bilitis (a national lesbian organization) have opened a new loft center at 141 Prince Street. The loft will provide space for DOB’s regular Monday meetings as well as room to host bimonthly women’s dances. The sisters have built an office classroom space, a library and kitchen facilities; they’ve done all the work but the plumbing themselves.
The Daughters of Bilitis is over 15 years old. Their function is three-fold: to provide an atmosphere of support for sisters still one-half in the closet, to make a comfortable social environment for gay sisters, and to do publicity and support in the struggle for civil rights for homosexuals. Until recently, their image has been of older, more respectable women, but their oppression as lesbians has made them strong and their politics are increasingly radical.
Officers of the organization are in the office almost everyday. The group maintains a library of gay literature, and welcomes all women, gay or not, to come to talk to them about lesbianism.
Common Woman
THE COMMON WOMAN is a new feminist paper in the Bay Area, published by the Common Woman collective, 1126 Addison St, Berkeley 94702. 415-841-9615. 10 cents a copy, $1.25 for six months. The Common Woman will perhaps take up some of the emptiness after the demise of IT AIN’T ME BABE.
PLUS One PICKET
WASHINGTON, D.C. – GLF picketed the Plus One bar charging it discriminated against Blacks, women, transvestites and unconventionally dressed people. In other words, like a lot of so-called “Gay Bars” they don’t want you if you’re not white, middle class, and straight looking. The manager claimed he wasn’t aware of any discrimination, but he did admit that the bar wanted to maintain its butch, Ivy League image. Picketing continued with questionable results.

5 Megatrends Impacting Power Transformation Globally
Tumblr media
In a period of rapid technological development and growing sustainability concerns, the global power industry confronts a significant evolution. Traditional power systems are being modified by several megatrends that promote creativity, effectiveness, and long-term viability.
Here, we’ll look at five major megatrends that are affecting the global transformation of power
1. Transition in global economic power
Global economic dominance is evolving, with emerging economies gaining prominence. Despite their remarkable economic development, nations like China, India, and Brazil are experiencing a rise in energy consumption. The power industry will be greatly affected by this shift in economic power. To meet the expanding energy needs of these burgeoning economies, new power infrastructure, transmission networks, and sustainable energy sources must be developed.
2. Population dynamics
The demographic shift is an important megatrend that has a major effect on the power transition. Due to population growth, urbanization, and changing demographics, there is a growing need for power, particularly in developed nations. Countries with established economies and aging populations require continuous electricity for essential services like healthcare. To deal with these developments, the power industry must invest in efficient, environmentally friendly energy generation and distribution systems.
3. Rapid Urbanization
Urbanization is altering the global power industry. Megacities’ expansion has resulted in an upsurge in the amount of energy required by the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. The creation of smart cities must be given top priority by the electricity sector to meet these objectives. This entails constructing efficient power networks, utilizing renewable energy sources, and deploying innovative technology for optimal power generation and delivery.
4. Technological advancement
Technology is revolutionizing production, transmission, and consumption in the power sector. Blockchain, Internet of Things, big data, and AI innovations optimize power systems for dependability and efficiency. Consumers are empowered by decentralized generation, grid automation, and smart energy management. These developments lead to lower expenses and greater authority in the changing electricity landscape.
5. Climate Change/Resource Scarcity
The evolution of the electricity sector is being fueled by climate change and resource scarcity. To minimize greenhouse gas emissions, emphasis is put on renewable energy sources. Enhancing energy efficiency, studying energy storage, and alternate fuels are also prioritized. These initiatives are meant to encourage sustainability and alleviate the consequences of climate change.
Conclusion
Lastly, the five megatrends highlighted have a substantial worldwide impact on power transition. Adapting to these megatrends is critical for the power industry to meet growing energy demands, promote economic growth, and resolve the environmental challenges of the twenty-first century.

Tumblr media
The report further includes the Market Summary, Industry Outlook, Impact Analysis, Porter's Five Forces Analysis, Market Maturity Analysis, Industry Components, Regulatory Framework, Key Market Strategies, Drivers, Challenges, Opportunities, Analyst Perspective, Competitive Landscape, Research Methodology & Scope, Global Market Size, Forecasts & Analysis (2023-2028).
Triton's report suggests that the global market for floating power plant is set to advance with a CAGR of 10.74% during the forecast period from 2023 to 2028.
Request Free Sample Report:
Floating power plants are innovative power generation units on floating platforms on water bodies. They serve as primary or backup power sources for specified facilities, utilizing renewable energy sources (solar, wind, etc.) and non-renewable (diesel, natural gas, etc.). These plants offer the advantage of mobility, making them ideal for temporary power generation to tackle local energy shortages.
The increasing popularity of offshore wind projects is due to several market factors, such as the growing demand for clean and sustainable energy sources and advances in offshore wind technology. Also, supportive government policies and the urgent need to combat climate change by reducing carbon emissions further elevate the demand for floating power plants.
Furthermore, the popularity of floating power plants based on IC offers opportunities to the floating power plant market. These innovative power generation systems offer flexibility, scalability, and rapid deployment, catering to remote areas and serving as backup solutions in grid instability situations.
However, challenges like technical complexities, high costs associated with logistics and accessibility, and a shortage of skilled workers for solar panel installation limit the floating power plant market's expansion.
Over the forecast period, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to register the fastest growth. A growing population and increasing industrialization fuel growth prospects. The region is home to a rapidly growing population, which in turn drives the need for expanded power generation capacity. Furthermore, Asia-Pacific is experiencing significant economic growth, with many countries emerging as major global players. This economic expansion is accompanied by a surge in industrial activities and the establishment of new manufacturing units, creating a heightened demand for electricity to support these sectors. Floating power plants present a viable solution to meet this demand, especially in areas with limited land availability.
Floating Power Plant AS, Upsolar Group Co Ltd, SeaTwirl AB, Caterpillar Inc, Mitsubishi Corporation, Wartsila Corporation, Siemens AG, MAN Energy Solutions SE, Kyocera Corporation, and Vikram Solar Limited are prominent companies in the floating power plant market.
Due to its complexity, the floating power plant market poses a moderate threat of new entrants. Capital-intensive development and deployment, along with the need for specialized expertise, act as barriers. Additionally, a skilled workforce in offshore engineering and renewable energy is crucial. Nevertheless, government policies supporting renewable energy adoption, such as feed-in tariffs, subsidies, and favorable regulations, are vital in attracting new players by mitigating financial risks and offering long-term incentives.

What is your opinion of Deep Green Resistance?
I think DGR adequately points out what is wrong and failing about our current society and economy. And they say we should engage in underground guerrilla tactics to sabotage these failing institutions. They do not adequately explain why these institutions are failing. And they do not explain how we should structure society after tearing civilization down.
They say we should live in a way where we're all in-touch with nature. That's a nice sentiment. But that means 1,000 different things to 1,000 different people.
Being in nature, loving nature, and feeling "green" is not enough. That's not a real plan for society.
The biggest red flag is that they state they reject technological solutions. They're anti-city and anti-density. They claim cities and density are the problem. They say we need to abolish cities in order to get back to nature. That's an ideology that the fields of ecology and Earth science do not support at all. And it's an ideology that isn't supported by indigenous leaders, either. We actually need to stop settler populations from disrupting key ecosystems. Most of us need to get out of nature and pack into efficient cities. And that's a bitter pill for anti-city environmental groups to swallow.
Successfully abolishing suburbs and transitioning away from fossil fuels will require massive urban infrastructure and housing development projects. Anti-city environmental activism actually stands firmly in the way of this process.
Oh god damn it. I just found an even redder flag. Are you ready?
This is from their FAQs page:
Renewable energy technologies are better than fossil fuels in the same sense that a single bullet wound is “better” than two bullet wounds. Both are grievous injuries. Do you want to shoot the planet once or twice? The only way out of a double bind is to smash it: to refuse both choices and craft a completely different path. We support neither fossil fuels or renewable tech. Even this bullet analogy isn’t completely accurate, since renewable technologies, in some cases, have a worse environmental impact than fossil fuels.
Was this written by a radical feminist? Or an anti-wind astroturf movement funded by the fossil fuel industry? Because they sound exactly the same to me 😂
Ugh. What a mess.
DGR is an environmental group revolving around a charismatic leader. They talk good talk about peace and love and harmony. But DGR as an organization isn't on friendly terms with other ecological movements. They state broadly that all other mainstream environmental movements are invalid. They claim to be revolutionary. But they do not reference writing from the leading revolutionary thinkers of our time. There's no Kate Raworth, Robin Wall Kimmerer, JK Steinberger, Jason Hickel, Timothee Parrique. There's no mention of larger climate resistance groups like Extinction Rebellion, Fridays For Future, or the Sunrise Movement. I don't see the words "degrowth" or "steady state" anywhere on their website. It's strange. It's like they haven't read anything outside of their Fem Kaczynski echo chamber in 10 years.
But I'm not condemning them altogether. They're passionate about the natural world and they want to save it. They're just going about it in a very counterproductive way that happens to benefit the fossil fuel industry. Maybe someday they'll come out of their bubble and participate in larger discussions and strategies.
