Iâm just remembering that rwby chibi had jnpr do a group cosplay with zwei on two separate occasions, which brings to mind that doofenshmirtz meme but also
1. Confirms that jnpr is that friend group/polycule that does group cosplays whenever they get the chance, which frankly does track.
2. They can and will steal their friendâs dog whenever necessary for said group cosplay.
3. All of their group cosplays require a dog for it to work, because first they did scooby doo, and then they did peanuts. So what would their third group cosplay with zwei be? My moneyâs on the wizard of oz.

but she fell in love with an english man | b.b. x reader
summary: Academy friends drag Benedict to a tavern to watch Irish fiddle player!reader perform. He buys her a drink. But who can play a fiddle and drink a pint at the same time?
word count: 1.2k
warnings: suggestive but none
a/n: definitely not inspired by those tiktoks of dirty talk bar maids at ren faires, who said that???
âThey are spectacular,â Rupert Norton declared with an arm slung over Benedictâs shoulder.
The rest of the Royal Academy students hummed in agreement. Already drunk from the party they left minutes ago, a small group of them stumbled down the cobbled streets of Soho. Earlier that night, news broke that a band that visited a few weeks before Benedict enrolled at the Academy had returned to much anticipation. In an instant, pipes were dropped, coats were gathered, and boots were marching to The Intrepid Fox tavern.
âTheyâre from Ireland,â someone said.
âIâve never danced so much in my life,â another added.
âAnd the fiddle player is quite easy on the eyes,â Rupert slurred into Benedictâs ear. âTry and buy her a drink if you can. That usually gets her attention.â
Benedict laughed. âIâm just here to enjoy the music. As should all of you scoundrels.â
Once inside the tavern, a few of the men beelined to the bar to order whiskey shots for the fiddle player despite the empty stage in the corner. Benedict simply took a seat at the bar, observing the growing crowd. The bandâs reputation must have preceded them, as he was soon shoulder to shoulder with the eager fans. But for the next twenty minutes, only chatter filled the room.
âThey always like to keep you waiting,â Rupert grumbled into his ale. âBut itâs worth it, I promise.â
âI donât mind,â Benedict smiled. âItâs good people watch-â
The room erupted into cheering, and he turned toward the stage. Sure enough, two men climbed the small wooden platform. One carried a fiddle, the other a flute. The room roared even louder when you emerged with your fiddle, waving a good-natured hand to the audience. Your smile was wide and disarming. Your gaze was equally piercing. Looking at the gleam in your eyes, Benedict knew just how aware you were of your control over the room. Soon the clapping died down, and every soul waited with bated breath to what you would say.
A scrawny kitchen hand hurried up to you and set a tray of shots down on a small barrel.
âWow,â you breathed. âAll this for little old me?â
Benedict found himself chuckling with everyone. As you threw a shot back, his stomach dropped. You were certainly not like the young ladies of the ton.Â
âThis crowd is mighty impressive, isnât it, boys?â you asked your bandmates as you all started tuning your instruments. âWe appreciate you for coming out. If you donât know us already, the lad on the flute is Johnny. My fellow friend on the fiddle is Patrick. And Iâm Y/N. I have a favor to ask of you all⌠From now until the last of you sorry lot leave this building, I hereby decree this an Irish pub! That means we will be clapping along to the songs, singing if you know the words, and if you are so inclined, I would love to see some dancing tonight.â
Someone in the audience whistled, evoking more cheers.
âLetâs get started, shall we?â you grinned.
The trio launched into Seven Drunken Nights, a popular jig even Benedict knew. Though his classmates were rowdily singing along, he could only stare at you. Johnny and Patrick generally kept to their places on stage, but you swayed across, drawing your bow theatrically compared to Patrickâs controlled movements. He was the main vocalist, but during the wifeâs lines in the song, you sang with the crowd.Â
âAh, youâre drunk, youâre drunk, you silly olâ fool. Still, you cannot see, thatâs a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me!â
Benedict couldnât decide if you were a better fiddle player or singer, you were impeccable at both. But without a doubt, you were the best at simply putting on a show. You encouraged people to dance along as you skipped across the stage. Benedict could only imagine how taxing it was for you. Dancing, singing, and playing an instrument all while not breaking a sweat. He eyed the tray of shots, turned to the nearest bartender, and ordered something more refreshing for you.
As you strung out the last note of Seven Drunken Nights, the same kitchen hand ran the mug of beer up to your tray. You sighed to yourself.
âWhich one of you did this?â you cried out, lifting the mug high.
Heads spun every which way. Benedict froze. Was liquor the only appropriate drink to tip a musician? He wasnât sure, heâd never been to something like this. Awkwardly, he coughed and raised his hand.
Your eyes found him in the sea of faces, and you smirked. âDonât be shy, come here!â
 Rupert clapped Benedict on the back. âDonât screw this up, Bridgerton. She might go home with you tonight.â
Though he had been with many women and dangerously close with a few men, you still intimidated him somehow. Nothing intimate had been on his mind before Rupertâs comment, but now his heart skipped a few beats at just the thought of it. Benedict snaked through the crowd, trying to read the expression on your face. But all you looked was smug, and he wouldnât be surprised if you poured the ale on his head.Â
âFinally,â you breathed as he stood before you. âOne of you buys a lady a real drink!â
He exhaled in relief.
âIâm afraid Iâm quite thirsty though,â you pout, getting down on one knee. The stage was barely a foot off the ground, putting your face directly in front of Benedictâs wide shoulders. âAnd we need to get on with the next song, but I donât have enough hands. Would you help me, good sir?â
Without waiting for his response, you shoved the drink in his hands and looked up to the ceiling. Before Benedict could blink, you were poising your instrument and drawing out a note with your bandmates following suit.
âWeâre lucky I donât sing in this one,â you smile, giving him a pointed look. âGet on with it, now. Iâm parched.â
Never one to argue with a lady, Benedict slowly tilted the rim of the glass to your lips and poured the liquid steadily down your throat. You looked up through your lashes at him, daring him to look away. But he didnât. Only when some of the ale dripped down your chin and onto your bodice did his gaze break yours.
âShould I stop?â he asked.
You shook your head, âNo,â as much as you could with your lips around the glass.
As you neared the last dregs, your head tilted back more and more to get it all. The eroticism of it all was not lost on Benedict, especially as you swallowed the last gulp and moaned audibly. The growing friction in the front of his pants was no help. But once the glass was finished, you rose to your feet and sent him off with a wink. As you spun to the other side of the stage, the hem of your skirt brushed his groin and he mindlessly reached for the fabric. But you were gone. In a trance, Benedict walked backward to his friends at the bar, adjusting himself.Â
âHas she done that before,â he coughed.
âIâve never seen that before,â Rupert crowed. âAnd Iâve seen them perform at least five times since I started at the Academy.â
âYouâve got to talk to her after, Bridgerton,â someone urged.
âCan I come along?â a voice teased.
âYouâre the luckiest bastard on earth right now,â another sighed.
Across the room, you caught him starring and blew him a quick kiss.
âYes,â he murmured. âLuckiest bastard on earth.â

tin hats on. letâs talk about the great war.
first, a general point about the relevant world of remnant spots: qrow narrates all of them. i think this is important to keep in mind when assessing the information provided, because he editorializes constantly, and i do not believe that we are meant to take qrowâs obvious biases at face value. rather, this is a narrative choice to introduce us to this history through a very distorted lens; qrow is ozpinâs man, loyal to the bone before to the revelation of ozpinâs lies, and it is also very likely that he had no formal education prior to his enrollment at beacon academy.
#1: the pre-war kingdoms.
vale sits on the northwestern coast of sanus, sandwiched between âsteep mountainsâ and âwaters too shallow for any real monsters to pop out of.â throughout the kingdomâs history, every attempt to expand the kingdomâs borders past the mountain range has ended in âcolossal failuresââthe most recent of which is mountain glenn, in the post-war period.
however, vale was also engaged in a different expansionist effort in the century preceding the great war: the kingdom was building settlements on âthe small islands and peninsulasâ of the northeastern coast.
to the north of vale lay the kingdom of mantle. qrow does not give a lot of detail regarding the settlement of solitas, just that âat some point, a group of settlers were crazy enough to venture out into the northernmost continent,â but i submit that the founders of mantle came from northern sanus. why?
mantleâs location at the southwestern tip of solitas is geographically closest to the island of vytal, just off the north coast of sanus; had the settlers come from northern anima, they would have more likely landed on the eastern side of the continent.
qrow says this: âthe harsh weather conditions proved to be just as useful as the mountain ranges when it came to keeping the creatures of grimm at bay,â and while anima does have mountain ranges, theyâre not remarked upon in WOR: mistral. it is vale that depends upon âsteep mountainsâ to bulwark its eastern flank against the grimm, and vale that has made repeated, unsuccessful attempts throughout its history to expand its borders beyond those mountains.
it is unclear how long mantle existed as an independent state prior to the great war, but we know that itâs not very old; qrow also states that the century preceding the great was âfilled with so much tensionâ that it might as well be âlumped togetherâ with the great war. meaning almost certainly that there were smaller-scale conflicts throughout the whole period. sometime during that century, vale began to build settlements in northeastern sanus. mantle was settled âat some pointâ by âa crazy group of settlersââand âi guess when youâre that desperate,â qrow opines, âa frozen hunk of rock doesnât seem like such a bad place to call home.â mantle is geographically closest to northeastern sanus. there areâthere have always beenâpeople living outside the kingdoms, who do not want to be part of the kingdoms.
you do the math. or i will: mantle was founded by people displaced from northeastern sanus by valean expansion, probably in the neighborhood of a hundred years prior to the great war.
meanwhile, mistral was conquering anima. notablyâbecause qrow doesnât like mistral, particularlyâthere is less ambiguity on this point than on valeâs settlement of northeast sanus: this expansion was an imperial project. a conquest. mistral was (and based on the language used in the present, still is) an empire, meaning its âterritoriesâ are all conquered people or polities from whom the imperial core extracts resources, whichâboth historically and in the text of this storyâincludes slaves.
so, argus. during the century preceding the great war, mistralâs attention turned to northern anima. according to jaune and ren in 6.7, mistralâs expansion into the region was stymied by the cold until forming an alliance with mantle; qrow describes mantle as an âunlikely friendâ to the empire. the goliath in the room that none of these characters acknowledge (and may not know, given their upbringingsâbandit, orphaned young, & very sheltered) is that the region was probably not uninhabited at the time.
empire. conquest. controlled territories. you cannot have these things without also having conquered people. what stymied mistralâs expansion into the region was likely not the cold per se but the logistical burden the cold imposed upon military action here; invading a cold region with an army in the wintertime is famously not a good idea. and, if mantle was founded by people displaced by valean imperialism⌠well, that explains both qrowâs view of it as an âunlikely friendâ and why mantle would make such an overture of alliance to mistral in the first place; vale and mistral were the great world powers, and for mantleâa small, vulnerable, dust-rich but otherwise resource-poor state with every reason to fear its closer southern neighborâcozying up to mistral would have been just rational politics; hug one great power to insure against invasion by the other.
and then thereâs vacuo.
WOR: vacuo is easily the least factually trustworthy episode in the series to the point that i think it is probably all but worthless in terms of the historical narrative given; itâs worldbuilding the modern day cultural narratives about the conquest of vacuo, not the actual history.
(the CFVY novels, i believe, support this reading: in the present, many city vacuans believe the narrative qrow offers here that the old kingdom of vacuo was a âparadise,â but âcomfort breeds weaknessâ and its people were complacent, soft, helpless to defend themselves from invaders from more hardened kingdoms⌠but the first king of vacuo was a man called malik the sunderer, shadeâs history teacher states that itâs been centuries since vacuo was conquered and the real history has been so obscured and distorted by myth that itâs impossible to know what it was truly like, and desert vacuansâthe nomadic peoples who donât live in the kingdomâhave a starkly different cultural outlook on hardship that is much more in line with the storyâs themes and also reality, valuing community, hospitality, and resilience over âstrength.â)
but there is one kernel of very interesting information in this episode: âafter the great war, a formal government was finally established.â meaning there wasnât a formal vacuan government before the great war.
vacuo was not a state before the great war.
of vacuoâs entry into the great war, qrow says this:
Up to this point, Vacuo had done its best to stay out of the fight. Mantle and Mistral, having both already established a small presence in Vacuo territory years before promised to leave them alone, provided they didn't interfere. Soon, those talks evolved. It went from "Don't side with them" to "Side with us and you'll be safe". Vacuo did not much care for that, and they came to the conclusion that if Vale were to fall, there'd be no one left to stop Mistral and Mantle from conquering them next. So they did what they considered to be the logical thing. They drove Mantle and Mistral out of Vacuo and told Vale they had their backs.
at this point in history, vacuo did not have a government. at this point in history, vacuo was not a state. the kingdom of vacuo had been conquered centuries ago (by âmore developed kingdoms,â qrow saysâby whom?), and according to rumpole (<- an actual authoritative source, given she teaches history at shade!), âfew documented accounts or records remain from that far back.â
the conquest of vacuo predated the conflicts of the prewar century (and probably predate the existence of mantle). this illustration in WOR: vacuo implicates all three of the other kingdomsâblue for mistral, white for mantle, green for vale:
so there is no question that vale participated in the butchering of vacuo; it did. but this illustration is also impressionistic, ahistorical, not a literal representation of how vacuo was conquered.
by the time of the great war, vacuo was a territory occupied by mantle and mistral, but vale does not seem to have had a significant presence there. in the present, vacuans harbor a lot of resentment for mistral and atlas, less for vale. vale is also, by virtue of being located on the same continent, the kingdom best positioned to invade vacuo if it so chose.
(qrow asserts that vacuo was conquered by âmore developedâ kingdoms, but it was also dust-richâthe CFVY novels confirm thisâand there is a clear correlation between technological innovation and access to an abundant source of dust. itâs possible that a scarcity of, say, iron inhibited ancient vacuoâs technological development and put it at a military disadvantage, but generally i think itâs more likely that qrow is regurgitating historical propaganda there.)
the point being: vale conquered the kingdom of vacuo and then either withdrew or lost a war with mistral for control over the territory at some point prior to the great war.
regardless of the finer details, the historicity of qrowâs account regarding vacuoâs entrance into the war seems⌠pretty suspect given that vacuo did not have a government. what sort of âtalksâ do you suppose the mantle-mistrali bloc was having with the non-state actors of vacuo? what kind of âpresenceâ did mistral, the empire that conquered all of anima, actually have in the vacuan territory?
hmm. i wonder.
vacuo âdrove mistral and mantle outâ and threw in their lot with vale; meaning, the vacuan side of this war was really a war of independence. vacuo wasnât âdoing its best to stay out of the fightâ so much as it was under mistrali control until the vacuan people rebelled, then sided with mistralâs enemy.
#2: salem?? ?
ozpinâand qrow by extensionâbelieves that salem ignited the war with a false-flag op in northeastern sanus (âto this day, no one knows who shot firstâ + âsalemâs smart. she works in the shadows, using others to get what she wants, so that when it comes time to place the blame, we can only point at each otherâ). much of the fandom not only takes this at face value but also assumes without⌠really any basis at all that salem was responsible for the âincidentâ in mantle that the mantelian government used to justify a raft of draconian censorship laws.
but⌠authoritarian regimes can and will use any pretext to justify repressive new laws whose real purpose is to punish dissenters and strengthen control over the populace; banning art and all forms of self-expression is not a move that anyone would think with any seriousness would protect people from the grimm. qrow is either being disingenuous in purpose or (more likely) just doesnât know what the fuck heâs talking about because four years at the monster-hunting college is the sum total of his education: âthe people of mantle had come to believe that they would be much safer from the grimm if they could only keep the emotions of the masses in checkâ is the kind of bullshit nonsense you would expect if the guy doesnât know how government works, either the modern-day democratic councils or whatever system prewar mantle had; what is the distinction between âthe peopleâ and âthe masses?â
in. the. unreliable. narrators. show.
mantleâs autocratic government found a pretext to crack down on subversive speech and pumped out a massive body of propaganda to the tune of âweâre just doing what we must for the good of the people :)ââthatâs what happened. thatâs why mistral imposed the same laws on its territories but not in the imperial core, and why mantle didnât have a problem with that âselectiveâ enforcement.
maybe salem sent some grimm to attack mantle, maybe she didnât. maybe there was a public protest that got angry enough to attract grimm. maybe there was a protest that got too rowdy, and whoâs going to openly question the government officials claiming that officers on the scene opened fire into the crowd because a grimm jumped out of the sewers? grimm evaporate when they die. kind of a hard thing to fact check.
and in a similar vein⌠valeâs king rolled out a welcome mat for mistrali colonists who came to colonize valean settlements. it is beyond nonsensical to think that there was no violence involved. colonization is an inescapably and inherently violent process. and remember, the rioting began shortly after mistral imposed draconian censorship laws on its occupied territories, which absolutely would have included parts of eastern vale.
it was inevitable and completely predictable that this situation would explode. might salem have sent someone to fire the first shot? sure? but why would she bother, when the fuse was burning down all on its own?
(and thatâs assuming she even had an interest in provoking a massive war at all, which seems rather unlikely given her apparent disinclination to engage in wanton destruction; see also her consistent choices to limit civilian casualties by pulling out of vale quickly / planning a surgical strike on haven academy / not attacking mantle / not sending grimm into the subways of atlas.)
but. butâ
they did put her in the thumbnail. the point of this is presumably to imply that she did, in fact, do something to influence these events.
specifically.
they put her in the thumbnail superimposed over the leader of the vacuan rebellion, who:
led what must have been a pretty desperate fight against steep odds to drive an industrialized global power out of vacuo,
kept that coalition together after they won and formed an alliance with vale, and
was a faunus.
ozpin is superimposed over the king of vale because he was the king of vale. so: is the choice to position salem in this way similarly non-arbitrary?
looks into the camera like iâm on the office.
salem is a faunus. she identifies herself as such (âyour graceâ is the mode of address for menagerieâs chieftain) and she has been socially understood as a faunus for thousands of years (in a time when faunus were hunted and caged like animals, the stories about the witch who lived in the woods among âbeasts and monstersâ were, uh, probably not referring to wild animals; âbeastsâ was a euphemism for the people the ones telling those stories hunted and caged.)
to this day, ozpin associates the faunus with salem. he suspects blake of being her spy; he similarly singles out velvet after the massacre of lower cairn (and we donât get to see what he actually says, only that velvet is in tears by the end). at haven, leo more or less says âthe council overruled me and my hands are tied,â and ozpin immediately decides to freeze him out and insinuates to the kids that he suspects leo might be a traitor; meanwhile james âtwo votesâ ironwood is closing atlasâ borders, cutting off the global supply of dust, recalling his troops from an allied state, and behaving so erratically that mistral is evidently anticipating a fucking invasion, and ozpin instructs qrow to take the lamp to atlas anyway. lionheart is a faunus; ironwood is human. the tea set ozpin gifted to lionheart is a replica of salemâs tea set. math.
so the fact that salem is superimposed over the faunus leader here does not seem coincidental; the narrative is very consistent in linking salem to the faunus because she is herself a faunus.
in WOR: faunus, qrow describes the appalling treatment of faunus by humans throughout history (first ostracized and hunted down, later enslaved and exploited) before to the great war and states that, after the great war, âthe world was desperate to find compromises that would ensure they'd never see the likes of it again; the faunus were awarded equal rights as citizens of remnant, and as an apology, they were given an entire continent of their own to do with as they pleased. there were some that saw this as fair and just, but many saw it for what it really was: a slap in the face from a nation of sore losers. and so menagerie was born.â
and from the great war:
But whatever the reasoning, everyone bowed to the King of Vale by the time it was over. The Great War had ended. The world was ready to live under the rule of Vale. But the King refused. The leaders of the four Kingdoms met on the island of Vytal, and it was there that they worked together to form a treaty and establish the future of Remnant. Territories were redistributed, slavery was abolished, governments were restructured, and the Warrior King, the last king Vale would ever have, founded the Huntsman Academies and placed his most trusted followers in command of each Kingdom's school.
a few things to unpack here.
first: ozma as the king of vale would have had quite a lot of power to drive the vytal negotiations in the direction he wanted them to go; the other three leaders were given at least a notional say, but these were people who had just seen ozma unleash the horrifying powers of the sword of destruction upon their armies and bowed to him in abject terrorâand thatâs before getting into the possibility that ozma may have used the crown of choice to compel agreement.
second: âterritories were redistributedâ mostly appears to mean that mistral was forced to relinquish control over conquered territories that did not want to be part of mistral; vacuan sovereignty was formally restored (âŚon paper) (shade academy is the de facto government and has been since the war ended, which is worth raising an eyebrow at), parts of western anima were liberated, and⌠menagerie was given to the faunus.
(menagerie had to have been a mistrali colony before the great war ended, otherwise the framing of âa slap in the face from a nation of sore losersâ is nonsensical.)
third: note the implication that awarding the faunus equal rights and giving them an island was a desperate compromise to insure against the perceived threat of a second war. itâs of a piece with ozmaâs attempt to appease mistral and avoid war by âsharingâ eastern vale with mistrali colonists.
the vacuan leaderâhis ally in the warâwas a faunus, but it sounds very much as though ozma saw her kind as adversaries, at least in potentia, whom he made it a point to appease in the hope of avoiding a war. which is irrational on its face but does make sense in conjunction with ozpinâs clear inclination to imagine connections between salem and faunus, however baseless that suspicion might be.
and on that note, qrow also says this: âa lot of settlements were lost during those years, and most were never reclaimed. rations on food and dust were put into effect, development of technology accelerated, humans and faunus who fought alongside one another became closer and every day, mankind grew more and more efficient at destroying itself.â
pay attention to that rhetorical structure.
many settlements were wiped out
food and dust were strictly rationed
technological (military) development boomed
humans and faunus grew closer
mankind grew ever more efficient at destroying itself
one of these is not like the others.
qrowâs framing of these events likely comes from ozpin, whether directly (things ozpin told him) or indirectly (ozpinâs influence as headmaster over beaconâs curriculum). so the inclusion of âhumans and faunus who fought side by side grew closerâ into what is otherwise a list of ways mankind âdestroyed itselfâ is perhaps telling of ozmaâs mindset at the time; which in turn supports the implication that ozma perceived the faunus as a potential threat to appease after the war.
now!
the question is, how was salem involvedâand why?
well. we know that salem is inclined to revolution; she rallied people to rebellion against the brothers millions of years ago, and in her war against the academies in the present, she aligns herself with groups like the white fang. she refers to the global order ozma established through the vytal accords derisively as âyour so-called âfreeâ world.â
and we know that salem herself is a faunus, and thousands of years ago she was present enough in faunus culture that their creation myth is just a refraction of her storyâtransformation into something new by a choice to leap into magical waters.
we know that the faunus did not have rights in any of the four kingdoms before the great war, and mistral in particular is noted for its reliance on (presumably, mainly faunus) slave labor. reading between the lines of qrowâs slanted narration, vacuo was a mistrali territory back then, and in the CFVY novels itâs mentioned that vacuan faunus were regularly enslaved in mistrali-operated mines within that territory.
and we can guess, based on their leader being a faunus, that the vacuan rebels who drove mistral and mantle out of vacuo were predominantly faunus, plus humans willing to follow and fight for the faunus.
in the present, salem preferred sienna khan over adam and dropped adam like a hot potato after he assassinated sienna; she also clearly has no intention to attack menagerie, where the grimm notably do not seem to be a serious problem. salem also implicitly identifies herself as a faunus (âyour graceâ). so there are grounds for thinking that she does consider the faunus to be her people.
vacuoâs part in the great war was a war for independence. salem is both pragmatic and ruthless; she understands that nothing forces people to cooperate quite like the threat of a common enemy; she has the means to turn the tide of any war by the simple expedient of directing her grimm against the side she wants to lose. if she was in communication with the vacuan rebelsâor just had spiesâshe could have coordinated grimm raids to sever supply lines or winnow defending forces in advance of attacks planned by the rebels, tipping the odds in their favor.
she knows ozma. if she was paying attention to the war, she would have known it began with his futile effort to appease mistral by giving away parts of vale; she has to know he sees her in the shadow of every faunus. the vacuan rebelsâmost of them faunus, led by a faunusâsaved his bacon by joining the war he very much seems to have been losing (the frontlines were in vacuo by the end of the war; all of eastern vale was destroyed, and the king of vale and his army made their final stand in vacuo; vale itself was⌠probably under mistrali occupation at the time).
i am sure salem did not want, particularly, to throw ozma a lifeline. but she does care about freedom in the abstractââyour so-called âfreeâ worldââand she may think of the faunus as her people. once the war began, once it became clear that vale was losing⌠well, either vale would fall and mistral would rule the world, which would be undeniably worse for the faunus, or she could grit her teeth and accept helping ozma as a fair price for a shot at liberating the faunus.
and the only thing she would have to do to influence the warâs outcome is use her grimm to disrupt mantelian/mistrali supply lines and specifically target their forces on the battlefield. such attacks wouldnât stand out against the backdrop of regular grimm activityâthere are a lot of grimm in the world beyond her controlâbut a sustained, deliberate campaign of grimm attacks focused on one side would absolutely add up over time to a significant advantage for the other. especially given that the logistical burden of waging war on a foreign continent is already so much higher than defending your home.
if salem could also keep wild grimm off the backs of vacuoâs and valeâs armies to some extent, a la the apparent absence of a grimm problem in menagerie, that advantage would be even sharper.
âŚalthough she probably did not anticipate that ozma would use the sword of destruction to crush everyone who opposed him, or the crown of choice to do⌠whatever it is he did with it. you win some, you lose some.

my words were: reach, gentle, ache, and alarm
reach
The exposed wires of the tin man would shock Ren if he didnât have an immunity to electrocution â a side-effect of his ability â but the tin man has an inhuman reaction time and reaches up with barely-articulated fingers to grab Ren by the neck. When being strangled, itâs also gut-instinct to reach for the hands restricting your breathing. When youâve been trained to be a fucking soldier for all your life, Ren doesnât have any problems taking that dagger â lifted an inch into the air, feet scrapping the concrete floor â and jamming it between the mock-ribs of the tin man. Nickei doesnât bother helping.Â
gentle
âNo need,â Frankenstein says, taking his hand out of Nickeiâs reach and rubbing at the decomposing area. The infection from the Dark Divine has spread to the bone, something it has a more difficult time melting. Frankenstein only sighs upon seeing it, taking his uninjured hand and running it over. Underneath his touch, it regenerates. Not in a perfect, concealed way, unable to see the damage â every single nerve reconnecting, every severed and blackened tendon fusing itself back together with the gentleness of a bomb. Around the regenerating area lies fault lines â areas announcing which skin is new and which skin is old by the sickly green tint around the edges and the different colors of the new skin.Â
ache
Nickei doesnât register the ache in his hands, in his nails, and it is worse â worse than coming back from the dead. He thought that already. Heâd rather be dead. His nose hurts. His cheeks hurt, and there is this buzzing, and he doesnât know â is that in his head, too? Is it? No. It isnât. Protect. He doesnât know what he needs to protect.
alarm
i don't actually have an instance of "alarm" yet ! tho i'm sure that'll change :p

I'm picturing Sprig being drawn to Ren or Doc. He's a kid and they look really cool and in his head that means they'll be the same brand of cool. Action figure personality types.
But then he gets to know them and like, Ren is exactly who you expect him to be but not quite. He is really cool, but that is because he is so talented as a performer om one hand and incredibly chill on the other. He takes everything in stride. He falls and picks himself up. He is an excellent person to learn from, he's just a natural role model. Until he give him anything even remotely resembling power. He is a huge drama queen and will play the tyrant role up to 1000% no questions. Honestly, he'd probably get picked up by the Toads first, leave a very fast impression of mentorship on Sprig, insert himself into the coup and make Sprig doubt everything, then immediately double down on the theatrics when Andrias' True ColorsTM are revealed, rallying troops and leading civilians away from the castle through charisma alone.
And Doc. Doc tries to act tough, tries to utilize his appearance, but he sucks at it. He is supernaturally competent in one specific area but simply cannot manage in any other. You would never expect this from the tin. Sprig has heard stories of Doc losing his arm in a battle with a god. A battle he won. In his mind, Doc is the the persona he tries to persent. Then he spends time with him and. No One takes him seriously. His threats sound bad, but the guy is far too nice to actually do it. He nearly cried when he first met Polly. He did cry when he first saw a snail. He's a teddy bear in a grizzly bears body. But it's not because he's soft that he isn't taken seriously. The hermits love him for being such a softy. It's because he tries to act tough and intimidating when they know he loves too much to go through with it, especially now when they have only one life each. Hi family loves him for him, not who he thinks he should be. Love him not for the monster, but the man.
Idk, Sprig bonding to a hermit on incorrect assumptions but finding his expectations subverted but it was because, even if for the wrong reasons, he picked a nonetheless excellent person.
This. Just... just this. I donât think I could word it better. I still think Stress may be his closest bond for reasons, but this all definitely happens & helps Sprig grow up more than a little.
Though he absolutely doesnât ever get over the whole âDoc beat a godâ, thing.
One thing to note, though: As soon as Ren realizes the coup is an actual coup & not a big game, heâll change sides - probably after False bonks him over the head & calls him a goof. As you say, dude only plays at being a despot, when in actuality heâs quite chill & would hate the idea of an actual malicious dictatorship, no matter who was in charge.

â  sorry  . . .  my mindâs on other things .  â
( for ricky to vaeh and/or dylan to leo )
"Oh yeah", the woman cooed as she held her spinach dip out for him to take a bite out of. Once he did, Vae popped the rest of the cracker with dip into her mouth and slid into his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck. It didn't matter that it was thanksgiving and everyone was around. Boone was outside, deep frying the turkey. Her mother and Darla were smoking at the kitchen table as they snapped green beans. Ren was putting Tori down for a nap. The two of them could share this rare moment. Though everyone knew the two were dating, had been for several weeks now, it was rare for the two to share such PDA in front of the family. A hug here, peck there. Some hand holding, and sitting with his arm around her, sure. But never her sitting on his lap. There was a bit of bravery it took for her to do it seeing as her parents were not privy to much of anything aside from the hug and peck they shared once they arrived at Darla's. Leaning in, Vaeh brought her hand up to cup his face before placing a tender kiss on his lip. "You know you can tell me anything baby", she told him once she'd pulled back. Leaning further into him, her lips this time found his ear before she whispered, "And I can always stay late, wait for everyone to go home or fall asleep, and then we could take your mind off of it in my car again."
***********************************************************************
With those words, Leo felt his heart sink. Peaking over into the living room, the man checked to see just how enraptured Max was in his new Switch. Thankfully it seemed like he couldn't put it down. He would have smirked, chuckled even, made some joke to the woman about how maybe giving it to him was a bad thing and actually rotting his brain. But in this moment, Dylan was his priority. Just like she deserved to be. Taking a few steps toward where she stood tin the kitchen, Leo began. "Dylan, I want to help", he told her in a hushed tone to make sure her son couldn't hear them. Taking a few more steps closer to her, the man stopped just short of her. Close enough for either of them to reach for the other if they wanted to. Far enough away so he wasn't completely in her bubble. "Look, I know it's not that simple but, let me do something. Let me pay for lawyers, Let me take him to the visitations so you don't have to see him. Move in with me. Or fuck, just take my place. I'll pay for it still even, move back in with my dad, or move in here. Fuck, I don't know." Cerulean eyes looked up to find russet ones, Leo felt helpless. Like no matter what he offered, she wouldn't take it, and he'd have to watch her struggle when she didn't need to. "I just want to help, I swear."

Mumkarâs dead and Fioraâs back! Thatâs all well and good for us, but not so much for MeliaâŚ
And these are the nicest robots I have ever seen. I swear to fucking god everyone on Mechonis is practically a saint. That doctor lady who treats Fiora especially stands out. The Tin Man from Wizard of Oz would be right at home here.
Even Egil by villain standards is just⌠too reasonable for me to get mad at. The fact that his own family (Kylo Ren vibes much?) thinks heâs too far gone, and that he has basically the same motive as Shulk pre-Fioraâs return means I canât really hate him.
And I was indeed right about Dickson playing everyone like a harp and Gadolt coming back as a Mechon. Even Alvis of all people appears to be in cahoots with him.
Plus during that mission that killed Shulkâs parents, Dickson just happened to be right there. Awfully convenient isnât it? Almost like you needed Shulk for some grand master plan, if only Mom and Dad didnât stand in your wayâŚ
Iâve also heard Zanza mentioned too many times for him to be just a random giant who gives Shulk new powers. He might be to Bionis what Mayneth is to the Mechons. And if Mayneth is all sweetness and light, Zanza is going to be the opposite.
Oh man the final boss is going to be Zanza hijacking Dicksonâs body isnât it?
Xenoblade 1 thus far be like:
The Monado: Can't damage organic beings but can only damage mechanical beings
Mechons with Faces: Can speak, have red streaming things in their "arms" and "legs", and are immune to the Monado. Always claim that they want to eat the humans for some strange reason that we certainly can't figure out.
Metal Face: Has Mumkar's voice and claws and behaves as though he already knows Shulk and co.
Xord: Stops in his tracks when you asks his name and wonders if "he ever really had one"
Fiora: Dies in the early game but somehow is playable (AND gains exp!), has equipment, and has Heart to Hearts. Is "eaten" by a Mechon shortly after dying.
Dickson: The one time he is playable he doesn't have skill tree link or gain exp, is a guest party member for the rest of the game, has no equipment, and he makes a comment about having to "deceive those kids" en route to the Entia's place
Me:
#xenoblade Chronicles 1#i want dickson dead so bad itâs unreal#this fucker gives me fire emblem villain vibes#he even appears to have the same goal of resurrecting the evil dragon#well⌠evil god in this case#only in FE the villain is on the âbad countryâ side#this time heâs supposedly with the good guys and the âbadâ country is actually NICE#thatâs more clever than FEâs approach tbh

A Completely Objective and Logical Ranking of Every Hetalia Character Song
New character songs are dropping, I have too much time on my hands, letâs go.Â
Also hereâs a Youtube playlist for the ~â¨nostalgiaâ¨~
Bring it on in the tagsÂ
71. Ah Legendary ClassâThe Awesome Me Highway [Prussia]: Absolutely tearing it up on the drums and on the vocal cords alike (I pray for Atsushi Kousaka). Great for the memes.Â
70. Happy Thoughts Museum [???]: This is listed as an official song but I had literally never heard of the title. Then I listened to it and BAM! Smack back to 2013 watching the teasers for the show on Funimation. Not sure Iâd count it as a character song though...
69. (Nice)Â My Song that is written by me for me [Prussia]: Deafened me but I can appreciate the industrial grind.
68. My House is...Quiet. ~With the Trolls~ [Norway]: I have never heard this song, nor can I find any version of it online. By default it goes here and I am so sorry Norge.
67. Make a Wish to Santa⪠[Sealand]: The discordant notes and childish exuberance only serve to make this sound like a demonic plea to Santa to eliminate the singerâs enemies.
66. Heaven and Hell on Earth [Rome]: Rome sounds like heâs been in the corner of a restroom. Extra points for the metal version, minus points for the fact that the beach scene was replayed like 1764 times.
65. Canada Complete Introduction [Canada]: Quiet af until Kumacheerio shows up and blows out your speakers. they did you dirty my darling đ
64. Itâs Easy!!! [America]: I don't think any video of this has ever stayed up for more than 20 seconds. Sounds cool, but like I was listening to 20 different genres at once, someone make him calm down.
63. BĂš ZĂ iyĂŹ the Small Stuff â [China]: I cannot for the life of me find the complete song anywhere, clips have a cool beat though
62. Let's Boil Hot Water⪠[Italy]: Exactly what it says on the tin..though a bit too close to elevator music for my tastes.
61. The Fragrance of Early Summer [Japan]: Very âfrom the booksâ Japan-esque song
60. Peace Sounds NiceâŚ[Baltic Trio]: All well and good until the radio demon shows up
59. WâDâC ~World Dancing~ [America]: How a song can sound like itâs from 4 different decades at once is beyond me
58. Overflowing Passion [BFT]: This is just drunken karaoke and I have 0 clue whatâs going on #iconicforallthewrongreasons
57. RenâRenâRenaissance⪠[Rome+Chibitalia]: Wholesome Grandpa with Grandson content - barring the fact that Italy sounds on the verge of a nervous breakdown and Rome has had too much wine.
56. Roma Antiqua [Rome]: Similar energy to any one of Chinaâs songs - thereâs a part of the song where it sounds like heâs singing in the shower, and I will never not laugh at [CENSORED]
55. Country From Where the Sun Rises, Zipangu [Japan]: Very chill, very Japan, but just meh for me.
54. Moon Over Emei Shan [China]: Good message, okay song.
53. My Friend [England]: What a mind palace you must have Mr. Kirkland
52. With Love, from Iceland [Iceland]: Three words: Heavy. Metal. Puffin.
51. Having Friends is Nice...⍠[Russia]: Russia is the cutest thing ever
50. Mm. [Sweden]: Smooth transition from WWE Smackdown to shopping at IKEA.
49. Why donât you come over? ~Beyond the Northern Lights~ [Iceland]: I donât want to be mean but...this does sound like the second closing theme to an anime whose first closing was much more popular (Ă la Soul Eater)
48. GakuenâFesta [Germany, Italy, Japan]: Sounds like a 60s song of the summer but oh dear their voices do not go together. Hella cute though.
47. Wa! Wa!! World Ondo [Main Cast]: One time I travelled 10 hours in a coach bus with a bunch of teenagers to a city of note in my country, and the only souvenir I bought was the fucking PAINT IT WHITE DVD. Perfectly chaotic, UN ÄÄĂšX~~
46. In the Bluebell Woods [England]: In the album cover for this song heâs holding a guitar but this is not a rock song. Still has ârunning through the hillsâ levels of dramatism though.
45. Poi Poi Poi⪠[Taiwan]: Youâre telling me that Taiwan, someone whose has *ONE LINE* in Beautiful World (which is criminal tbh what kind of representation-) managed to get an eNTIRE CHARACTER SONG???????
44. White Flame [Russia]: Thereâs something to be said for a song that is 3x the length of any Hetalia episode
43. Ich liebe⌠[Germany]: Baking cakes for your friends has never been so wholesome.
42. We Wish you a Merry Christmas [America, China, England, France, Russia]: Nice to see theyâve gotten their shit together since United Nations Sta-hmm.
41. Ah, Worldwide à la mode [France]: Sounds like a Disney Princess song, hard not to picture France frolicking in a field of flowers.
40. Che Bello! ~My House is the Greatest!â~ [Italy]: Would not be out of place in an advertisement for Sea World.
39. May You Smile Today [Japan]: THE feel good song of the summer
38. Letâs Look Behind the Rainbow [Italy]: I will protect you.
37. I'm your HEROâ [America]: âAnyone whoâs sad or sullen will be arrestedâ did NOT age well.
36. Mein Gott! [Prussia]: Alternating headphone effect at the beginning is cool, so is the confidence...the actual singing on the other hand...
35. NihaoâChina [China]: Listen, all of Chinaâs character songs are great, I just canât vibe with this one like some of the others.
34. Pechka ~Light My Heart~ [Russia]: Iâm still having difficulty wrapping my head around the fact that this and Winter were released at the same time.
33. PukapukaâVacation [Germany, Italy, Japan]: Seems just a bit too much like theyâre running on a treadmill thatâs picking up speed and trying to sing at the same time. Peppy.
32. Santa Claus is Coming to Town [Germany, Italy, Japan]: This is unironically the best song sung by this trio; can only vibe with for two months out of the year though.
31. Excuse Me, I Am Sorry [Japan]: Japanâs character traits speedrun. Gives me barbershop quartet vibes for some reason but is catchy as hell.
30. The Story of Snow and Dreams [Russia]: A superhero anime opening in the making
29. Englandâs Evil Demon Summoning Song [England]: Sir that is not how you roast a marshmallow, donât cut yourself on that edge.
28. Moi Moi Sauna⪠[Finland]: Exactly the type of song youâd expect and itâs wonderful
27. United Nations Starâ [America, China, England, France, Russia]: This isnât as much of a song as it is a four minute struggle for everyone to sing without America yelling every 5 seconds...Like a particularly musical episode of Hetalia.
26. Paris is Indeed Splendid [France]: Paris-pa-pa-pa-paris
25. Absolutely Invincible British Gentleman [England]: Poppy, rocky, polka-dotty
24. Vorwärts Marsch! [Germany]: To quote the comment section: âThis sounds like a German version of Iâll Make a Man out of you.â Thereâs some truth to that.
23. Hamburger Street [America]: The product of Americaâs rapper phase. 8/10 because heâs trying so hard and because I can unironically sing along to all of this.
22. Hoi SamâNice Guy [Hong Kong]: A song that would absolutely destroy the ankles of anyone in DDR.
21. I Am German-Made [Germany]: There was once a version that had Germany and Prussia singing at the same time and it sounded positively demonic and Broadway could never
20. La pasión no se detiene ~Unstoppable Passion~ [Spain]: Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping...
19. Fall in Love, Mademoiselle [France]: Sounds like it should be in Mozart Opera Rock, I have kiss kiss falled in love.
18. Embrace the Très Bien Moi [France]: This is the definition of SELF LOVE PEOPLE.Â
17. Carrot and Stick [Belarus&Ukraine]: Absolutely DRIPPING in 2000s power ballad energy. The type of song that plays on repeat in the mind of the widow whose millionaire husband âmysteriously disappearedâ (and the only legit character song ever acknowledged by the anime)
16. C.B.C (Cowboyz Boot Camp) Vol. 1 [America]: AH MAH GAWWDDD
15. Winter [Russia]: Heavy metal fever dream and the perfect song for an angst-ridden teenager
14. Seychelles Here â Vacation Island [Seychelles]: UNđDERđRAđTED SONGđOF đTHE đSUMđMERđ
13. Nah, it will settle itself somehow [Romano]: One day I aspire to reach this level of chill
12. Letâs Enjoy Today [England]: I will never not feel happy when listening to this.
11. Einsamkeit [Germany]: Ludwig manages to air every single one of his worries about not being good enough compared to his friends and always being perceived as mean or uptight when heâs actually just a softie and now my heart hurts. đ
10. Aiyaa Four Thousand Years [China]: A very poignant and beautiful song about the passage of time and the inevitability of its passing; comparable to an ancient ballad complete with explosive crescendos and meaningful lyrics.
9. Bon Bon Bonâ¤ď¸Câest Bon Câest Bon! [France]: Peppy, cheerful, adorable, groundbreaking; has been my alarm tone for six years and Iâve yet to tire of it. 9/10 The moaning interspersed throughout has been an interesting wake-up call.
8. Letâs Enjoy! Letâs Get Excited! Cheers! [Denmark]: This is on par with Everytime we Touch by Cascada in terms of rage potential unlocked (the good kind)
7. Dream Journey [Japan]: Whoeverâs playing the shakuhachi is absolutely KILLING IT. Dramatic, wonderful, great metaphors.
6. Gourmetâs Heart Beginner Level [China]: Absolute banger, Iâm a vegetarian but this would inspire me to eat shumai.
5. Always with you...Nordic Five! [Nordic FIVVVVVEEEE]: Everyone harmonizes beautifully except for Denmark. Extremely catchy, number placement seemed appropriate.Â
4. Pub and GO! [England]: I love this trash man
3. Maji KandouâHong Kong Night [Hong Kong]: If you thought Denmarkâs song was a banger JUST YOU WAIT. I WILL BLOW OUT MY SPEAKERS LISTENING TO LO-HA-SU.
2. Steady Rhythmus [Germany]: THIS SONG IS METAL AF. Seriously, if it can be classified as âhardcoreâ by my father and his group of 50-somethings who have decided to single-handedly gatekeep the metal and hardrock genres, it can do anything.
1. The Delicious Tomato Song đ
[Romano]: Beautiful, absolutely awe-inspiring, poignant, catchy lyrics with an extremely deep meaning that only years of meticulous research and analysis can unlock, Romano I love you.
BONUS: Closing Songs
5. Hatafutte Parade (World Series)Â
4. HetalianâJet (The World Twinkle): The song is good, the dancing is cursedÂ
3. Chikyuu Marugoto Hug Shitainda (WorldâStars)

Uhhh, this whole this as a Din x Reader fic pretty please? đĽş
âI am ALL about that trope where person A traces person Bâs scar that they probably got years before they even met and person A goes - âIâm sorry I wasnât there with you.â And person B kisses the tip of Aâs fingers âYouâre here now.â I go ABSOLUTELY FERAL. I lose my entire damn mind. And then they proceed to kiss each otherâs scars? Hooooly shit I am deceased.â
THANK YOU SO MUCH BOO FOR GIVING ME THE EXCUSE TO WRITE THIS!!! And thank you to the amazing and wonderful @elysiansith (aka Mar) for reading it over for me, we will definitely have to do that more often (btw yâall should go follow Mar because sheâs an AMAZING writer and just posted this beautiful Gingerpilot GOT AU that I reposted, and if you love that then you should go read her other fics)
Anyway... I hope you all enjoy :)

loving hands// din djarin x f!reader
The two of you held one another in the dark, Dinâs hands tracing you just the way you usually would with him. He knew from the second you walked up the ramp that today hadnât been a good day, and quickly pulled you to your shared room.
Slowly he helped you get undressed and after getting rid of his armor he joined you in bed. His hands caressed your body slowly as if he were trying to memorize each and every bump and curve in your body. Every single time his fingers reached a scare, heâd trace it softly before asking you how you got it, and then kissing it softly. He knew the story for each mark on your body, each imperfection that he deemed to be a perfection⌠except for one.
It was a rather long scare that went from your right hip across your back to your left shoulder, with smaller branches breaking out in between. He knew this was one of your first scars, but it was also the only one you wouldnât let him see and even less touch. That wretched scar you had declared long ago would never get the same loving treatment that every other scar on your body received from Din. Only, until today that is.
âItâs okay,â your voice was so soft it was as if you had mouthed the words as you grabbed Dinâs hand and led it to the one place he always avoided.
The second your hand left his, his touch receded. He knew he couldnât hurt you, the physical pain from that scar is no longer there, but the emotional pain was always there, treading under the surface.
You tensed up as Dinâs fingers reached the middle of your back- that was where the scar had hurt the most- and yet soon you felt it drift away as Din whispered to you under his breath, âIâm sorry I wasnât there with you.â
He felt you roll over so that you could rest your forehead against his, before you searched for his hand and kiss the fingertips that had worshipped your body, âYouâre here now.â
The two of you stayed there for who knows how long, time not being an issue when youâre together in the dark. And then Din dropped his head into the crook of your neck where that scar ended, his lips pressing so softly it felt like one of his fleeting touches.
Soon, your lips found one of his scars and you couldnât help pressing your lips to it softly.
âMeshâla,â Din sighed when he realized that once you had started, you werenât going to stop.
He had meant for this to be all about you, but once youâd set your mind on something you werenât going to stop, much like him.
So the two of you continued this slow dance, fingers caressing each sliver of skin they passed over, before pausing and allowing a kiss or two to be placed wherever theyâd stopped. No other sound passed either of your lips as you let the quiet envelop you.
Your fingers and your lips conveyed everything that you needed to say in that moment, and Din understood it all.

You know, bringing Penny back already had the risk of cheapening her death, but NO ONE having an emotional reaction whatsoever and Pietro being like âYeah, I guess she did die lol :Dâ just DESTROYED the weight of her death. Just another reason I felt nothing when she died again.
The lack of reaction to Penny's resurrection will, forever and always, be a black mark on the series for me. I'm not at all surprised that she was brought back given her android status and popularity among the fandom, I can't even fault RT for restoring our original Penny perfectly given the latter (as opposed to getting a "Penny" without her personality and/or memories), but the sheer indifference to her cheating death? Not just that, but treating her return like a joke? Oh haha, silly Penny with her overenthusiastic hugs. I sure missed that bubbly girl back when our enemies manipulated our now murdered friend into killing her and that trauma kick-started the destruction of our school :)
And this trend in the fandom of going, "Just wait"? Penny suffered from it too. Massively. Like we were told to just wait to return to Oscar's mystery shopping trip, or for the reconciliation with Ozpin to start, or, now, for Emerald to undergo an actual redemption arc, the lack of reaction to Penny's return was explained away as shock (and haven't we heard that one before). Ruby will need to grapple with these emotions, it's just that she was so stunned by this turn of events! But, quite obviously, that never happened. Ruby and Penny's relationship fundamentally returned to where it had started, with Penny making comments about how she isn't allowed certain freedoms and Ruby reminding her that she's a real girl despite it all. A death and the trauma of losing a friend? Not a part of their Volume 7-8 dynamic, to the extent that the story throws them a party in the arena where Penny died â and where Yang was framed, and where the Battle of Beacon began â and not a single character has anything to say about that. The meaning that Penny's death carried in Volumes 3-5 was, in short, erased... and then Penny's entire journey of learning that she's always been real is erased too in an effort to kill her off for good. Her human body wasn't included because it was something she strove for (it wasn't), or something the group needed (it wasn't), or because it was a thematic culmination of her journey (quite the opposite), or even because it follows her inspiration (Ironwood's Tin Man would have something to say about that). It exists solely so that Penny could be murdered again, this time for good. The mad scramble to theorize that she's not really dead (again) is telling. Even the most complimentary fans, those who were quite happy with Penny becoming a human and took no issue with her story throughout 7 and 8, recognized that her death was a horrific, meaningless scene that served only to drum up shock value and give Jaune something to angst over.
I'd even go so far as to say her time as the Maiden was meaningless too. Not just in terms of her not actually doing anything with the powers and Winter ending up with them as originally planned â those two points have both been covered extensively â but in regards to the fact that the group didn't react to that either. Our formerly dead friend came back and a short time later is one of the Maidens? Neat! And that's the extent of their emotional investment in Penny's change. Neat, we've got a stronger fighter now. I just answered that ask that referenced Yang and Ren's fight and that's literally Yang's entire thought on the matter: "We have the Maiden." The Maiden is positioned as a useful tool in this war; a checkmark in the "Victories" column when your friend thinks you haven't achieved enough. But doesn't anyone care that the Maiden is Penny? It's particularly strange to me given the six years of fandom discussion surrounding Pyrrha's almost-time as a Maiden too. As someone (quite obviously lol) interested in Ozpin's character, his desire to make Pyrrha the next Fall Maiden is often viewed as one of his worst acts, supposedly taking this poor, defenseless student and manipulating her into accepting a power that will ruin her life. So much of this is conjecture and even more is an erasure of Pyrrha's agency, and the hypocrisy here is on full display when we look to the reaction to Penny's acceptance of the powers instead. No one is worried about how this power is supposedly going to ruin her life. Or drive all her friends away. Or make her a target to be murdered (again) which is precisely what happens. Or turn her into a tool for the evil men around her to abuse â even though Penny is the one who actually has storylines revolving around her agency, from Pietro building her to be Atlas' obedient weapon to Ironwood ordering her back to his side. Yet the characters don't react to this change with any of the horror we might have expected, because these views don't derive solely from fan headcanoning â we've got moments in the text too. Like Jaune convincing himself that Qrow and the others forced Pyrrha into this. Or the knee-jerk reaction to "real" magic and the horrible things it must do to you. Yet Penny walks out of that lab brimming with a foreign magic, something that Ironwood had always planned to pass onto one of this allies, a power that they know has gotten numerous people killed, and our group is just like, "Cool. Penny upgrade." Everything about Penny's Volume 7-8 journey demonstrates a lack of forethought; the authors' inability to connect what they're currently writing to what came before and what will come later. The lack of reaction to her death, the framing plotline going nowhere, a total acceptance of her as the Maiden despite complicated feelings in the past (and we can toss Yang's assumed secret about Raven in here too), the ableist and contradictory message of giving her a human body, dying again just an episode later, doing so in a way that throws Jaune back into the same situation we've seen before... none of it is emotionally fulfilling when set against the rest of RWBY.
And Emerald, as you say, is a crucial part of all that. Emerald is the one who originally orchestrated Penny's murder. We see her love for Cinder pushing her to attack Penny again just hours before she joins the group. Emerald pretends to be Penny in order to get close to Ironwood... and the only thing we get from all this is a quip about how "weird" it feels to do good. Their stories are woven together and the fact that RT doesn't seem to realize that does a huge disservice to them both. The question of, "How does Penny grow after being resurrected post-murder?" and the question of, "What will it take to redeem Emerald?" are irrevocably linked to one another... and yet neither character was given the chance to answer those questions in a fulfilling manner.

A tin-can laugh for the worth of Voe's sterling word.Â
"Is it? How much?"Â
He took one step toward her and threatened another. How a big cat crouched before the pounce; he was Nexu again for a moment. In the next, he could have been Ben. He could have been Ben slanted with his arms folded, one boot curled defiantly in front of the other, japing her as he did in Voe's memories.Â
"Since you'll be coming along," he whirred, "I want you to listen closely to my next words"âwhich may have lacked worth but certainly not meaningâ"I knew my path would lead away from the temple long before I found my 'merry band of outcasts.' When I set out to make my way, the Jedi teachings were all I knew. Not very useful in the age of war. I had to survive. I had to do more than survive. Through the Ren, I learned how to live."
No motility to his scuffed durasteel scaffolding apart from the twitch of his fourth and fifth digits. When he began walking, he was the hazy adumbration of a man approaching the seam in a patchwork of tower blocks.Â
"It's a different life, not lesser," he said, watching the remains of a skyslum shudder in the wind. "We all rejoin 'the Force' at the end. Often sooner than we'd like. The Ren releases us by nature or sentient hands when our time comes. Quickly. Painlessly. That is all. But slaversâ"Â
He hesitated. Something seemed to fizzle in his helmet, and the words jolted forth:
"Are scum. And while you practice nonaggression, I look forward to making them suffer."Â
He started for the alley, picking up where Voe had left off. Â
"Let's go. You can carry on with your insults somewhere out of earshot."Â
Walls had ears on Nar Shaddaa; booby traps, secret settlements, pirates hiding in the walls. Rebel fraternizers. First Order rats. They'd have to move by the rule of smoke and mirrors, as if they weren't moving at all. And if, and only 'if,' they got as far as Wormstew without Voe submitting to the siren call of her umbrage, they'd need to rest, and the helm would have to come off. The gloves, too. Forgoing food a fourth day in the name of preserving what little rations the Knights had left wasn't an option. Gorgs were an option, likely his only option, and he couldn't blow his cover at a food stall.Â
He'd need to carve away at his outer skin until he was in full disguiseâmerely to eat. Otherwise, they'd draw too much attention, a Jedi and a Knight of Ren. A brush of recognition could cost them both dearly. He didnât need the trouble. Such an operation would already take a couple of days between them, even with the aid of his 'band of outcasts,' the blurs of children's nightmares that rushed through the shanty town.

Robot Chicken #37: âDay at the Circusâ | October 29, 2006 â 11:30PM | S02E17
Nothin, and I mean NOTHIN, makes me drag my heels like watching Robot Chicken. I watched this using the method I described before of watching this during my lunch break in my car instead of eating food with life-giving nutrients. I literally drove away from my job and parked a few blocks away because while I mostly don't care what my co-workers think about me, I did not want to be âcaughtâ watching Robot Chicken. The thought of this caused me to imagine myself as a huge ham, being cooked and served up by the small team of managers I deal with, while my co-workers devour me. My inner-monologue is preserved even though Iâm completely cooked, and the entire time Iâm thinking âhey cut it out!â and âI AM SECRETLY GAYâ. I don't know what it means, but I thought it, and that's precious.
First a sketch making fun of some G.I. Joe guy who I guess only does snow stuff. They make fun of him. Do you get the joke? Remember that State sketch where the Justice League mocks Aquaman for only being able to talk to fish? It's like that, I guess. But... well, it's probably exactly as funny as that, and the only reason we like The State is because we associate it with youth. All not realizing that our lives would peak in 1997. Anyway, I didn't laugh at this.
There's a short one where everyone in Wizard of Oz barfs, and they all barf stuff that they are made of (the tin man barfs oil and gears, for example). Both the Strawman AND Dorothy barf straw, which I guess DEFINITELY reads as a joke about Dorothy sucking Strawman's dick? I GUESS? I don't know, I guess it makes enough sense. But it felt like a reach at the time, and I would've preferred that it was just interpreted as a weird anti-joke.
Thing Leaves the Family is about Thing from The Addams Family. I guess this might be my favorite sketch. You can see the punchline coming from a mile away, but this one is about as well-done as Robot Chicken gets.
There's a thing about a Leprechaun being at a bar trying to drink and people realizing they can catch him and get a pot of gold out of the deal. Meanwhile in a Leprechaun lair we see their pots of gold get depleted. One of them fills a pot with leprechaun shit. Actually you know what, this one's alright. The choice to make the shit green is pretty fun.
I also SORTA liked THE MEMORY GAME, a game show where players have to go through a cave filled with fatal booby traps, and the next player needs to simply remember what did the last player in in order to avoid all the traps, so the final winner only wins at the expense of several fatalities. Sold premise. Who was the first guy to do a sketch about a game show that kills it's contestants as punishment? Ernie Kovacs? Yes, actually, it's Ernie Kovacs. I'm pretending to not be sure about this but it's Ernie Kovacs. And I'm certain Terry Gilliam saw that sketch and ripped it off for the beginning of Time Bandits. Man, I love saying stuff I know about TV shows and movies.
Black Stallion sketch where a horse sounds like a black guy and accuses a white boy of racism. Eh!
The last sketch is about Oprah and Dr. Phil as buddy cops who use tactics used on the Oprah Show. That isn't a bad premise but this sketch grated on me. I guess I should give it up a little bit for the creative jokes but boy, I was ready for the episode to be over. My main beef with this show has always been that it seems far too pleased with itself at all times, so even when the jokes are good I still have to watch them be on Robot Chicken, which makes them bad.
And that's this one. It wasn't so bad I guess. Did I laugh? No.
MAIL BAG:
do you think adult swim should have picked up ren & stimpy's adult porno cartoon, and maybe the rest of the spike tv stable while they're at it
I so associate Nick & MTV toons as being a separate thing from Adult Swim that I donât even have the imagination to picture such a thing. Ren & Stimpy on a TURNER-OWNED NETWORK?? Get real!
Also no, that show shouldnât have been picked up by anyone

Time of Realisation
Happy New Year, everyone! May 2021 be everything you ever wanted. Since I just finished writing for part 8 of this series, I wanted to post this one a bit earlier than the usual Fridays as a New Yearâs Treat. So here we go! Part 7 of the âSuccessors of the Futureâ is here.Â
(My Premium Grammarly account disappeared all of the sudden so please excuse any stupid grammatical or spelling errors you might find. Iâve edited this chapter thrice now and it should be ok??)Â
Before we start, we must do our ritual and give thanks to the ever amazing @tri3tri for letting us all expand on her Draconia Family series. Hope youâll have a great year as well, Tri-senpai!Â
-
âTo be honest with you Ren, I donât remember much about Sebek. Just his voice. I still remember how loud his shouts were.âÂ
âEh, donât sweat it too much. Take it as a blessing.âÂ
Renata and Sherrie are in her room. The underwater aesthetic of Octavinelle is so beautiful to take in from the inside. It almost makes Renata wish that sheâs a mermaid. Or a killer whale type of mermaid. Now that is a badass merfolk.Â
Just like Renata, Sherrie was given a room all to herself instead of sharing it with a dorm member due to her gender.Â
And her little sister did not waste time transforming her room just like her old one back at their home. Already her gaming computer has been set up on her study table, cosmetic sets of well-known brands - Nyx, My Pretty Zombie, and Fenty Beauty - are organised neatly on her shelves beside the standard textbooks and stationeries. One of the open drawers beside her cupboard full of her school uniforms as well as her Pastel Goth clothes display tins of green teas and stacks of instant foods.Â
Clearly, Sherrie has made herself right at home in Octavinelle. And less than a week too!Â
Actually, how much luggage did Sherrie brought from their home?Â
After the Entrance Ceremony, Renata waited two days for Sherrie to acclimate herself to Night Raven College, letting her talk to some of her dorm members, get a feel on the teachers before slipping into her bedroom to catch up. It was a mild surprise to see the state of her room after her little sister told her to plant her ass on the bed while she prepared a pot of hot green tea for them.Â
While sheâs busy with the kettle, Renata wasted no time to explain what Ace told her during Winterâs Break when she inquired about Sebek. It was good to know that due to the dense magic in the Country of Thorns, technology is almost non-existent in the land due to magical interference. It also helps that despite being in the First-Year Forever group chat, Sebek barely checks his phone at all. Over time, Ace and the rest of their group forgot that Sebek is even in the group chat!Â
âStill, itâs good to know that Mamaâs friends drifted away from Sebek over the years. Thatâll help us a lot in the long run.â Sherrie commented after Renata wraps up her report. She handed a cup of tea to Renata and lean against her study table, facing the bed where her older sister is cooling her hot tea by channeling ice magic onto her fingertips. âWhat about the student body here? What are they like?âÂ
âEveryone walks around as if they got a twelve-inch dick.â Renataâs sarcasm is as thick as the kelp forest outside of Sherrieâs bedroom window.Â
Sherrie couldnât help but laugh at her deadpan tone; she had to put her cup of tea on the table before it spilled everywhere. âThat bad, huh?â She giggles helplessly, wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes.Â
Renata was about to roll her eyes but stop herself and ponders. Despite their flaws, Hoyle and Rex are good friends. Hell, even Bakari vibes with her. Not quite friendly, but he hasnât yet turned her away when she scurries over to intrude herself in whatever heâs currently doing. That, and she secretly enjoys finding little treats and snacks in her backpack after hanging out with him. âOk, some of them arenât so bad once you can get past their ego. Remind me to introduce Hoyle and Rex to you soon.âÂ
Sherrie raises an eyebrow. âAnd what about that one guy who keeps giving you food?â Â
âYouâll see him around.âÂ
â...Right.â Sherrie eyed her older sister with a knowing look when Renata nonchalantly shrugs. Sheâll get back to that little topic later. âHave you prepare the little surprise for Mama?âÂ
âYup.â Renata affirmed and took a sip of her tea. She lets out a happy, little sigh when warmth travels across her body. âWeâll do it this weekend. Thatâs the only time that theyâre free.âÂ
The two talk a little more until Renata had to leave when curfew looms. The passing Octavinelle students gave her a side-eye for a few seconds but otherwise, no one batted an eye at seeing a Diasomnia student walking about their dorms. The whole school is aware that Renata and Sherrie are siblings by now. Renata wonders if her sister will receive the same cold politeness because of their horns.Â
Meanwhile, as Renata made her way to her own dorm, Sherrie is scrutinising the lock on her door with a frown. The previous used cups and teapot are all washed up and the lights are dim slightly since sheâs planning to hit the bed right after she figures out how to secure her room thoroughly. There are just too many sensitive and important information about their family and plans against their father kept here. She straightens her back and tosses a glance at the computer and tablet lying on the table beside it. Sherrie had made sure to cultivate a habit of not storing the complete set of important materials in a single device - one can never be too careful after all. Especially when thereâs a dorm here dedicate to Technomages. Hmm... perhaps she should befriend one of the students of Ignihyde to help her with the security of her electronic devices?Â
Though thereâs still an issue with the simple lock of her door. Anyone can just force it open with a pick. Sherrie made a mental note to consult with her sister for some sort of spell that can solve this problem.Â
And with that, she quickly changes into a simple loose shirt and a pair of shorts before slipping under the duvet and turns in for the night.Â
Life as a halfling and an Octavinelle student quickly proves to be unlike anything Sherrie has ever experience.Â
Renata offhandedly advises her to shrug it off when her dorm members stare at her horns a little too long; theyâll get used to her soon enough. Sherrie cursed under her breath when her sister left and wondered if she could attend her classes virtually instead, but when she brought that up to her Dorm Leader, the shark merman raised an eyebrow and simply asked her if sheâs an Octavinelle student or Ignihydeâs. Needless to say, Sherrie set on digging any dirt she can find on her Dorm Leader ASAP.Â
Other than the uncomfortable stares and shady Dorm Leader - Sherrie quite enjoys the scarf that comes with her uniform - as well as her dorm leader, tend to keep it to themselves. Underneath the polite offers of tutelage in classes and tours around Mostro Lounge, Sherrie can blatantly pick up the insinuation underneath those favours.Â
A favour for a favour - thatâs how life in Octavinelle works. Information is worth more than Madols and dealings under the table is practically the norm.Â
Sherrie adapts in Night Raven College faster than Renata ever could.Â
Speaking of Madols, Sherrie needed to do something about their financial situations in Twisted Wonderland. Currency exchange is not a thing here so their dollars are practically worthless. Fortunately, Octavinelle expects its dorm members to pull their weights in Mostro Lounge. By the second week sheâs in Night Raven College, her Dorm Leader already distributed the First Yearâs schedule of their shifts around the cafĂŠ. The pay might not be much but itâs a good start.Â
Thereâs got to be a Twisted Wonderland equivalent of Youtube. She made mad revenue as a Youtuber and game streamer back home.Â
Today, Sherrie is working at Mostro Lounge with several other First Year students from other dorms. Customers flooded in during lunchtime and kept her busy manning behind the bar, preparing drinks and desserts.Â
âPresentation my ass...â Sherrie mumbled under her breath as she struggles to beautify the ice-cream sundae. She had to redo the whole thing when one of the staff - her Third Year senior - saw how plain her work was and taught her to make an art out of the dessert.Â
She was in the midst of deciding how many cherries would be enough to make the sundae look prettier when a rich, baritone voice broke her concentration. âHas the ice-cream offend you in some way, MC/S-san?âÂ
Sherrie moves her face away from the towering glass to see a fellow dorm member smiling at her. How curious, his eyes are like hot, molten gold.Â
âNo. I was just adding some finishing touches.â Sherrie reply, her voice remained neutral. She hasnât seen this one around before.Â
Her dorm member continues to smile. It comes across as calculative instead of genuine. Renata wouldâve spat fire at him already. âMy, it looks wonderful. Iâll be sure to inform the customer that his sundae is prepared by your meticulous hand. Iâm sure heâll forgive you for the time he had to wait.âÂ
Sherrie promptly turns around to store back the cherries into the fridge to hide her smirk. This nobody came forward trying to pick a fight with her? This could be fun. âIâm more than happy to receive our customer if he has any complaint with his sundae.âÂ
âIâll be sure to inform him.â He nods once and place the sundae on a tray and left the bar. Sherrie made sure to keep an eye on him after that.Â
Heâs tall, taller than her, and play the perfect part of a waiter with ease. As if he grew up in this sort of environment. The way how he balances two heavy laden trays of food and drinks on his palms while weaving in between tables, greeting the customers with an impeccable smile is telling. This guy mastered the art of customer service for sure.Â
âWhoâs the hotshot?â Sherrie asked her partner as she carefully wipes the clean glasses. Her shift partner - a Second Year manta ray merman, who was kind enough to introduce herself to her without any subtle jeer - glances at Sherrieâs line of sight, and his mouth made a small âoâ.Â
âThatâs Amber Leech. Heâs one of the promising First Year students we got, according to the Vice Dorm Leader. Youâre more of a wild card, though. Dorm Leader still doesnât know what to think of you.âÂ
Sherrie ignores that titbit about herself; she just hums. Didnât Mama mention that she knows a Leech? âHeâs good at handling the customers, Iâll give him that.â Sherrie admits, stacking the last dry glass onto the rack before her attention is capture by a server with a list of orders. Sherrie was too preoccupied with her job to scrutinised Amber any further after that. Â
Later when a Scarabia student relieved her of her shift with a quick exchange of pleasantries, instead of leaving, Sherrie decided to stick around and enjoy some free food in the kitchen. As long as she stayed out of the way, no one really minded her presence.Â
âGood job today, Leech-san. You can join MC/S-san in the kitchen if youâre hungry.âÂ
âThank you very much. Iâll be taking up on your kind offer then.â
Sherrie paused, tilting her head up from her small tub of ice-cream to see none other but Amber Leech step into the kitchen. Their eyes met and his calculative smile greeted her.Â
âIs this seat taken?â He politely asks her, gesturing to the vacant chair opposite her. The round table at the back of the kitchen is a bit small, barely enough to fit more than three people but it was far enough away from the kitchen staff so that they wonât be a bother.Â
âKnock yourself out.âÂ
âVery well then.âÂ
By the time he took out a red bento from the fridge, heat it up and takes a seat near the table, Sherrie has already polished the tub of ice-cream. When Amber noticed the empty tub, he frowns. It was so sudden that Sherrie couldnât help but defensively blurted out, âWhat?âÂ
âIs that all you having for lunch?â Thereâs a disapproving tone in his voice and Sherrie doesnât know what to make of it.Â
âThat? It was a snack. I had my lunch before my shift.âÂ
For some reason, her dorm mate nodded, strangely pleased at her answer before he tucks into his lunch. By the looks of it, his bento is artfully made with a variety of colourful foods.Â
The two said nothing, simply enjoying the clatter of cooking utensils, sizzling fire on the stoves and the cooks hum under their breath. Here in the back of the kitchen, the chatter of customers outside is almost muted.Â
It was peaceful. So peaceful in fact, Amber Leech feels like itâs his sworn duty to shatter it.Â
âI suggest consulting either Aeacus Shroud or the other students in Ignihydeâs Basic Magical Technology group as your solution. Shroud-san is the only First Year student in that group but I heard heâs the most approachable of the lot.âÂ
Sherrieâs heart froze. âWhat?â
Amber took his time to put away his now empty bento, dab the corner of his lip with a folded napkin that was on the table before replying, âFor security of course.âÂ
His answer is vague. Purposely so as he levels a stare at Sherrie.Â
â...How do you know that?â Sherrie all but demanded under her faux, indifferent voice.Â
Amber dared to smile and point his eyes, no word escape his lips.Â
A Unique Magic then. It has to be. Are his similar to Renataâs?Â
Sherrieâs mind races, for once, trying to decipher this strange student beside her.Â
And suddenly, Sherrie realises who this boy really is. The eyes were a give away. Â
âAmber Leech. Jade Leechâs son, I presume?âÂ
-
âMama, Iâm home!â
âWelcome back, sweetie. How was cheer practice today?â
âIt went really well, Mama. We nailed down the new routine without anyone falling off.â Lucien shuts the door close with his feet. Heâs sweaty and still in his cheerleading uniform with a duffel bag sling over his shoulder. Seeing that his Mama is nowhere in the living room, Lucien padded into the kitchen.Â
The house is, unfortunately, a lot quieter now that his sisters are off at Night Raven College. Before Sherrie left, she and he talk about how their Mama would feel lonely now. Even more so when itâs his turn.Â
Lucien assured her that heâll keep an eye on their Mama closely.Â
His friends would playfully tease him that heâs such a Mamaâs boy; constantly texting her of his whereabouts, what she and his sisters want from the convenience stores and Mama always make his favourite desserts more often compare to Renataâs apple pies and Sherrieâs matcha cupcakes.Â
And Lucien has no shame in being spoiled by their Mama.Â
However, when he steps into the kitchen to witness their Mama re-arranging the dishes in the cupboard for the second time this week, itâs time for Mama to be spoiled in return.Â
Lucien canât wait to see her reaction when they spring the surprise tonight.Â
âMama? Do you need some help with the plates?â Lucien asked instead of pointing out the fact that Mama has been restless lately. Without waiting for a reply, Lucien has already dropped his duffel bag to walk around the island counter towards her.Â
âItâs alright, Lucy. Iâm nearly done here anyway.â MC wave Lucienâs waiting hands away as she pushes the last stack of plates into the lower cabinet and got up. She shot him a smile but itâs wobbly. âAre you hungry, sweetheart? We still have some leftover dinner from last night that I can heat up real quick. Hang on, just give Mama a second to take it out - â
âMama, itâs alright. I know. It doesnât feel the same without Ren and Cherry.âÂ
MC froze before she got up and smile sadly. The sight made Lucienâs heart clench painfully. âThe three of you have always been close to me ever since you were born. Your Father was... many things,â MC grimace but she soldiers on. âBut he would never separate your sisters away from me. Iâm not sure what to do with myself now that Ren and Cherry are away...âÂ
Sherrieâs voice suddenly pops in Lucienâs head like how Renata enjoys busting through his door without knocking: âMama needs a distraction. ASAP! Go, go, go!âÂ
Renata interjects after her: âPsst! Try something calming yet engaging. Thatâll do.âÂ
Distraction. Right. Lucien can do that for Mama. At least until the surprise tonight.Â
âWould Mama help me with my origami? I could use some help with filling up my new empty glass jar.â Lucien suggests.Â
MC blink; didnât expect Lucien to suddenly ask for an extra pair of hands with his hobby, but she took it in stride. âUh, sure thing, honey.âÂ
Lucien beams like a blooming sunflower. âIâll go shower first then. Be right back, Mama!âÂ
âDonât run in the house, Lucy!â MC reminded him but lets him went upstairs with a small smile. She needs to get out of this funk. While Lucien is freshening up, might as well finish up her chores for the day.Â
By the time Lucien came back down carrying an empty glass jar and a stack of colourful scented papers and they didnât waste time to clear the dining table of the bowl of fruits and their cups so they could get to it.Â
Lucien is remarkably patient. More so than MC or his older sisters - he made sure to slowly show how to fold the paper into stars to his Mama and when sheâs confused, he would show her some videos online to help her. As the mother and son gradually fill up the glass jar, Lucien talks about anything and everything under the sun. How everyone in his team at school is helping him ease to the role as the captain of the cheerleading squad, how heâs getting a hang on the new subject material taught in Math class and whoâs dating who in his circle of friends.Â
MC hums and would give an appropriate reply in-between Lucienâs story. Typical teenage shenanigans, albeit, a lot tamer than what she went through but sheâll never get tired of listening to her childrenâs school life. Yes, even when Renata and Sherrie tried their best to hide whatever blunder they did at times.Â
It was when Lucien threw a purple star origami into the jar that he suddenly changes the subject. âOh yeah! By the way Mama, Ren and Cherry said that she has a surprise for you tonight!âÂ
âOooh, a surprise? I wonder what your sisters are planning.â MC murmurs a bit absentmindedly, too focus on folding the papers. Her eyebrows scrunch in concentration and she would beam proudly when one star came out perfect before tossing it into the jar with a happy hum.Â
Lucien is relieved. Looks like the distraction works.Â
They had a simple dinner once the glass jar is filled and once the dishes are done, Lucien hurriedly ushers his Mama into the living room. On the sofa, MC watches Lucien draws the rune on the mirror, bemused at the grin on his face.Â
When the rune vanishes, MC opens her mouth to greet her daughters. Her open mouth gapes and she could feel the corner of her eyes are suddenly wet when she saw the people on the other side of the mirror.Â
âOw! Deuce, you idiot! I told you not to shove me with your elbow!âÂ
âWho are you calling an idiot!? And quit hogging the mirror already!â
âIâm not hogging the mirror! Youâre the one who keeps pushing me!âÂ
MC couldnât help it. She laughs, tears now freely running down her cheeks. Lucien quietly excuses himself to fetch a box of tissue for her.Â
Her laugh shuts both Ace and Deuce up. âOh geez, what are you crying for, hah? Itâs just us.â Ace said, supporting a bittersweet smile. At that moment, seeing his best friend releases the tension festering inside of him all these years.Â
âWe miss you, Prefect!â Deuce shouted with a sniffle, his eyes are teary as well. He hurries to wipe off the tears with his knuckle. âMiss you so, so much! Iâm so glad youâre OK!âÂ
âAre you really though?â Ace interject, he doesnât even bother to conceal his blatant check on MCâs body. Looking for any sign of injuries or illness.Â
MC guessed that one of her daughters have told them what happened to her...Â
But she refused to let thoughts regarding Malleus damper her happy mood. Not when she could finally see her best friends again.Â
âIâm ok now. Weâre... weâre ok.â MC honestly reply with a lightened heart.Â
The three of them have grown; each of them has their own children now, at this moment, it feels as if they have been transported back to their teenage years all those years ago.Â
MC realises that sheâs truly no longer alone now.Â
-
And weâve reached the end of this chapter! I hope you guys enjoyed it!! MC finally meet Adeuce once more, even if itâs just through a mirror. With the three of them together again, thereâs nothing they canât do.Â
Here are some titbits about Amber Leechâs background:
1. His Unique Magic is called âWitness of the Pastâ
2. His Mum is a beautiful mer Sea Lamprey (if you donât know what a Sea Lamprey looks like, uh, prepare yourself before you google search them.)Â
Speaking of Unique Magic, Iâve compiled a list of all the kids with their UMs already. Havenât decided yet when Iâll post it, but Iâm thinking of posting the names as a sort of teaser? Meh, weâll see how that goes.Â

Happy birthday Ruby!
Our most adorable shooting star is up! Ruby was born on October 31st (kept from CRWBY canon)! She came into the world just a pink little thing, and she stole everyoneâs hearts with just one look. Her family loves her so much and so do we!

Ficlet under the cut!
âHappy birthday Ruby!ââ Different voices all cry out in unison as Ruby stands there with her eyes big and wide.
âYou guys shouldnât have!ââ She says awkwardly - causing Yang tomorrow her eyes and smirk in her direction. Â
âJaune spilled the beans, didnât he?ââ
Ruby scoffs loudly, âWhaaat? How could you possibly assume that our good, kind-natured friend Jaune--ââ
âYou donât have to defend me, Ruby. Itâs pretty obvious,ââ Jaune says while scratching the back of his head with an embarrassed smile. Weiss rolls her eyes as she walks over, taking Rubyâs arm and leading her in the other direction.
âYou can count yourself out of the next surprise party,ââ Weiss says with a pointed look back at Jaune. Ruby giggles before turning around to better keep up with her friend. They begin to approach a round table not that far from them - causing Ruby to let out a giant gasp.
The table is decorated with many different trays of sweets and baked goods - carefully placed in order of colour and type. Ruby turns back towards her friends.
âYou didnât have to do all of this!ââ she says with a big smile on her face as her eyes well up with tears.
Nora giggles, "Ren spent the last two nights making sure every cupcake was perfect, didn't ya buddy?"
Nora finishes the question with a poke to Renâs ribcage and a smile. Ren looks down at her with a puzzled look on their face, "You only turn 15 once - I don't see why I should hold back." Yang shakes her head as she leans on their shoulder with a smirk.
âWe arenât making fun of ya bud! No need to be self-conscious about the amount you made.
âAnyways,â Yang adds with an even bigger smirk, âNoraâs bottomless pit she calls a stomach will probably eat half of this in like an hour.â
Ruby giggles as she takes a single cupcake and, without an ounce of hesitation, bites into it. The sweetness burst to life in her mouth, causing them to hum in appreciation. âOh! This is so good Ren, maybe the best thing Iâve ever eaten!ââ She exclaims as she quickly devours the rest of her sweet.
Yang whistles, âThatâs a bold statement - considering we grew up around the self-proclaimed 'Best Cook in all of Remnant' - Uncle Clover.ââ
Ruby blinks for a few seconds before she laughs in response. âListen, both are on the same level as the other - actually this reminds me of my 13th birthday,ââ Ruby says happily as she finds herself becoming more distant and lost in thought.
~~~
"Uncle Qrowwww!" Ruby shouts as she jumps onto his arms; he catches and holds her up with ease. "I can't believe I get to spend my birthday with both you and Uncle Clover!" Her eyes sparkle as her legs dangle back and forth mid-air.
"How was the ferry ride from Patch? Hope it wasn't too scary to travel on your own." Qrow questions with a head tilt which only causes Ruby to scoff in response.
"You're talking to a future huntress here, Uncle Qrow - a little boat ride wasn't gonna scare me," Ruby says with a big smirk on her face before she continues "Besides I barely ever get to see you guys these days and no way was I going to spend my birthday alone!"
Qrow chuckles as he affectionately ruffles their hair. "Oz decided to let me have a free weekend. Coincidentally, Mr. Tin Man  felt the same for Clover," he smiles as she jumps back down to the ground.
"Tin man?"
Before Qrow could respond to her inquiry - the front door swings open and another voice is heard. "So, our favourite lil' whirlwind is here already?" Clover says with a smirk as he leans on the doorframe. Ruby lets out a squeal as she zips across the front lawn and practically leaps into her uncle's chest, knocking the man back a couple of feet.
"Uncle Clover, it's been so long!" Ruby cries out as they hug him tightly and Clover smiles warmly down at her. As she drops back down and takes a step back, she can barely contain her excitement, frantically patting her legs. Clover takes a few seconds to recover from the intensity of Ruby's hug, then looks down at her with a proud smile.
"I swear you've grown an inch or two since I last saw ya!" He exclaims with a short gasp - inspecting them closely.
Ruby giggles, "It's actually just my new boots," she explains as she shows them off proudly which causes Clover to whistle into admiration. Ruby pauses for a moment and gestures for their uncle to come closer, the other doing just that, as they stretch up to his ear in a stealthy fashion.
"But if anyone else asks - I finally had my growth spurt." Ruby whispers.
Clover takes a second to process that before he snorts and stands back up, "Your secret is safe with me munchkin." He finishes with a wink and ruffles their hair. Â Ruby let's out a playful grunt as she frantically goes to fix her hair back to the way she liked it just as Qrow approaches from behind them.
"I'm gonna pop these bags up to your room, squirt, and then I hafta check on your birthday surprise," Qrow explains as he easily picks up and carries in her assortment of different backpacks and cases. "Why dontcha join your uncle in the kitchen?" He suggests with a smirk towards Clover - who beams brightly in return. Ruby nods enthusiastically and takes hold of Clover's arm.
"Yesss come on Uncle Clover, time's a wastin!" They cry out as they tug Clover in the direction of the kitchen which has her uncle laughing warmly; allowing for his nibling to drag him in the direction she wanted to go.
"We'll see you soon babe - shoot me a text when everything's ready!" Â Clover shouts back towards Qrow and the other nods in agreement.
As the duo separated themselves from Qrow - they enter into the kitchen. The whole room was rather neatly kept - totally unlike Rubyâs kitchen at home, which often fell victim to plates and dishes piling up, especially if it was just Ruby and her dad.
On the table in the middle, there was a variety of different baking utensils and ingredients - all neatly sorted and ready to be used. Ruby gasps loudly as they sprint into the room, admiring her surroundings with great excitement.
Clover trails in not far behind the other and chuckles softly, "I was going to have the cake and everything else ready for you, but I remembered how much you love to bake, so I waited to make the cupcakes." Â He tells them while watching the young kid take in the sight before them with big eyes.
"Always! Just because it's my birthday doesn't mean I don't want to make badass cupcakes-" Ruby stops herself when she realises what she let slip past her mouth and clears her throat. "Doesn't mean we can't make awesome cupcakes," they correct themself with an innocent smile. Clover rolls his eyes playfully, choosing to ignore that in favour of wanting Ruby to enjoy her birthday.
"Anyways! We should get started - would you like to do the honours?" Clover says as he passes her the bowl of butter and Ruby nods in a dramatic fashion. As she dumps its contents into the mixing bowl before her, her uncle pours some casting sugar in before presenting Ruby with the whisk.
"Use it wisely, young one." Clover says.
Ruby gasps while taking it carefully and nodding, "I won't let you down good sir." She tries to keep up the serious demeanor but she couldn't contain the giggles that were building up deep down. As they begin to whisk the ingredients together, Ruby starts to ponder on a few things.
She was excited beyond belief about spending her birthday with her uncles - it was a rare sight when both of them could attend. But⌠there were small things that were nagging at Ruby and refusing to let go. Their sudden quietness immediately catches her uncle's attention, who then turns to face her.
âSomething on your mind?â Clover asks in a gentle tone - completely surprising Ruby who lets out a tiny yelp. It didn't take her long to recover from that sudden question as Ruby looks down at the mix and sighs.
âI'm happy to be here with both you and uncle Qrow but⌠It's my first birthday without Yang.â Ruby speaks very quietly as she slows to a halt and their hair falls onto her face - hiding her true expression. Clover watches with soft eyes as he lowers himself down to her level.
"I know how hard it must be with Yang being on that school trip and your dad being busy," Clover starts in a gentle tone while pushing Ruby's fringe back once more, "but trust me when I say you're going to have a great birthday with the most awesome surprise." Â He gives her a big smile as the words seem to do the job of cheering her up. Ruby's expression lights back up and they wipe their eyes
"Thank you Uncle Clover," she says with a lopsided smile. Clover laughs as he kisses her forehead and stands back up - the pair returning to their tasks.
"So uncle Clover - a birthday surprise huh?" She asks with a sly smile.
Clover glances down for a moment before chuckling to himself, "You got that right." He doesnât elaborate further, simply gesturing for her to stop the whisking for a moment. As he adds a small tablespoon of vanilla extract, while Ruby's curiosity reaches an all time high.
"I wonder what it could be - maybe a mega awesome present-"
Clover laughs, "Ruby I know you have long figured out I'm the weak link when it comes to surprises," he says with a side glance down towards the kid.
Ruby giggles. "Yeah I found out when you accidentally told Yang that dad was considering the motorcycle license-"
Clover hushes them with a small laugh, "Which your dad never ever lets me live down."
"But I promised your uncle I wouldn't breathe a word of it - so will a simple reassurance that you will love it suffice?" Clover asks.
Despite the desire to know brewing deep down within Ruby - she understood this was something super important to keep a secret. With a sigh, she finishes her whisking and nods in agreement. Clover pats her on the head
"Not much longer now," he says while taking the bowl away.
"Now remember - 15 minutes in the oven or you'll burn them!" Ruby calls as Clover goes to fill the pre-prepared cupcake pan with the batter.
Clover scoffs,"You're talking to the 'Best Baker in all of Remnant' here Ruby. I ain't about to let these cupcakes burn on my watch!"
After the batch has been fully cooked and decorated, Clover's scroll finally dings on the counter loudly. Ruby's head perks up.
"Is that Qrow telling us everything is ready?!" They ask while frantically patting the table.
Clover laughs, "Let's see." He walks over and picks the device up. After being silent for a few seconds, the man looks back up and smiles. "We have to head out back."
Ruby follows behind her uncle enthusiastically - as he leads them down the hallway.
Excitement was thrumming all throughout Ruby's body as they got closer and closer to their destination. About a dozen different scenarios were rattling around in their head at once - but they just couldn't come to a solid conclusion. Was it a new cape? Maybe they're getting a super cool motorcycle too?! Clover stops before the backdoor and turns to Ruby.
"Close your eyes buddy," he tells her with a big smile. Ruby did exactly as she was told and soon after did they feel Clover gently take their arm and begin to lead her forward.
Ruby could feel the cool breeze of the outside world as they were continued to be led by her uncle - the shuffling of feet could be heard too. After a few seconds, Clover orders her to stop and she does just that.
"Can I open my eyes now?!" They exclaim, growing more impatient by the second.
Clover laughs, "You can now."Ruby's eyes flutter open. After taking a moment to adjust to the sudden sunlight - Ruby focuses her gaze right ahead of her, letting out a huge gasp at the sight before their eyes.
"Happy birthday Ruby!"
Different voices yell in unison, coming noth only from her Uncle Qrow, but also from her dad and sister, standing next to Qrow with huge matching grins. Ruby begins to bounce on the spot before jetting across the grassy garden.
"Oh my gosh!" They yell, tackling all their family in one swift motion, everyone being knocked to the ground by the force of it. Everyone laughs wildly as Yang and Tai embrace Ruby.
"You said you guys couldn't make it!" They say with tears in her eyes and Yang swiftly wipes them away, a soft smile on her face.
"You didn't think I'd miss your big birthday bash, did ya sib?"
Tai nods, "I decided to get off work early and Yang finished up her Huntsfolk Observation Trip quicker than expected." The trio finally stand back up and Tai his head tilts in Qrow's direction before continuing.
"Qrow managed to pull some strings to make sure we were all here," he says with a smirk.
Yang scoffs, "I had to make sure these old timers were doing your birthday right." She gives both Tai and Qrow a smug grin. Tai playfully jabs his daughter in the ribs and Yang snorts in response.
Ruby's face lit up - not sure how to react. Tai's face softens for a moment as he turns back around to pick up an item he dropped when they fell, picking up a small book with a pink bow neatly placed on top of it.
"I wanted you to have this. We all spent the last week getting all the pictures printed and organized." He explains in a quiet tone while placing the book into Ruby's hands.
Ruby stares at it, seeing the words 'Ruby's Birthday' printed on the top stirred emotions deep down. Everyone crowds around them with supportive looks which encourages Ruby to open the book, letting the pages fall open somewhere around the halfway point.
As Ruby looks down at the page, she could see Yang holding their baby self with the help of Tai, her older sisterâs eyes wide with wonder.
"Yang insisted that she held you the moment she laid eyes on you," Qrow chuckles fondly.
Yang gives a quick snicker in response, "I just knew how awesome my baby sibling was the moment I saw them," she says while ruffling Ruby's hair and the other pushes her off with a smile.
"What is it with all this hair ruffling today?!" Ruby asks with giggles sprinkled in between words.
As they flip backwards to the previous page, they see two pages of Qrow and Clover holding them as a baby as well.
"Clover of course, had to make a luck pun," Qrow says with a smirk in his husband's direction and the other stuck his tongue out playfully.
"So nothing much has changed between now and then?" Ruby points out which causes everyone else to laugh alongside them. Ruby turns the page further back towards the front of the book, seeing a picture of Tai.
"I remember when your mother went into labour - I quickly ran back into our room to specifically get that shirt," Tai explains with a short laugh, pointing at the red â#1 Dadâ shirt in the picture.
Clover scoffs, "You were planning that gag ever since Summer became pregnant too."
Tai waves him off âIâm the embarrassing father - I have an image to maintain!ââ He laughs and Ruby snorts in response  - looking up at her dad with happy eyes. After a moment, Rubyâs attention once again falls back to the book before them - as they flip to the first page of the book and Ruby finds herself growing silent.
Tai looks down at them with sad eyes as he places his hand on her shoulder "She wasn't scared at all when she was pregnant with you - I was more frightened than her." That comment has Ruby look up to her dad with a sad smile as she let him continue.
"She did everything in her power to make sure you were brought into the world safely and surrounded by love," he explains as everyone around them watched on in a wistful way "Your mom loved you so much Ruby. Every moment she spent with you was everything she could've hoped for."
That was what brought on the tears - as Yang and Ruby both found themselves starting to cry. Everyone  then closed in for a group hug. Nobody moved for a few moments, just choosing to instead enjoy each other's presence in total serenity.
"One last thing," Yang says with a smile as she pulls back and taking out a small camera. "Every year me and Ruby take a picture together for their birthday," she explains as she gestures for everyone to squeeze together "And this is the first time we've all been together in a long long time."
Yang places the camera on the nearby picnic table and sets a timer "Everyone says cheese!" She cries out while rushing over just in time as everyone screams out that word excitedly. The camera clicks with a flash and everyone starts to giggle. Qrow gives Ruby a quick pat on the head.
"Now let's dig into some birthday cake, shall we?" He suggests and Ruby gasps loudly.
"Birthday person gets the first slice!" She exclaims as she zips over in a burst of petals.
~~~
âThatâs such a sweet story Ruby,ââ Pyrrha says with a warm smile on her face and placing her hands on top of heart in a fond manner. âWould you like to take a picture with all of us?ââ
That question easily catches Rubyâs attention as her eyes go wide, âOh my gosh yes! Iâd love nothing more,ââ they say while jumping on the spot and clasping her hands together. âItâll show off our awesome costumes too. I dont have one good birthday photo in Halloween costumes, and Iâve almost always had a Halloween birthday.ââ
Weiss raises an eyebrow âRuby, you were born on Halloween, every year is a Halloween birthday." Yang hushes Weiss with a playful push.
âYou can survive one night without making a sassy remark Ice Queen,ââ she teases which obviously irritates the other but after a moment, Weiss takes in a deep breath and seemingly composes herself.
âDoes anyone have a camera then?ââ Weiss asks.
Everyone looks around at each other before shrugging and Nora groans, âWhereâs Velvet when ya need her.â . Blakeâs head perks up as she takes out her scroll and gestures to it.
âItâs not as traditional, but I think your scroll could work.ââ She says with a small smile.
Yangâs face lights up âOnce again - Blake is here with the big brain,ââ she says with a wink which in turn causes Blakeâs cheeks to flush red and she looks down at the floor with a tiny smile. Ruby takes out her device and beams brightly.
"Everybody squeeze in - Iâm pretty short,ââ she says loudly and everyone begins to crowd in around them, all trying their best to get in level with the camera. With a bit of effort, Ruby manages to hold the scroll as high she possibly could and she gives a big smile.
âEveryone say cheese!ââ She yells and everyone screams that word at the same time.
A flash on the scroll lights up the room before Ruby lowers it down - inspecting the picture that was taken. As they look at the photo, tears begin to well up in their eyes and she sniffles lightly.
Yang glances down with a fond look on her face and pats Ruby lightly on the head, âAll good Rubes?ââ Ruby wipes her eyes and nods frantically.
âItâs everything I couldâve hoped for.ââ

RWBY VOLUME 8 EPISODE 12 SPECULATION!!!
ALRIGHT BOYS AND GIRLS!!! Itâs Another Week........And Another Speculation Post For RWBY Volume 8!!!! đđđ We Got Only 3 More Episodes To Go Until The End Of The Volume And Tensions Are Rising!! I Was A Bit On A Roll From Last Weeks Post, So Letâs See How I Do For This Week đ! So letâs see what Iâll get RIGHT and what Iâll inevitably get WRONG!!!
-(Unlikely Alliances) Ok so last episode gave us a bit of a cliffhanger when we last saw Qrow and Robyn, when they prepared to fight whoever it was in the opening elevator. Much like most of you I also agree that it is Winter and Marrow that is inside the elevator.
Now with these 4 together I would like to speculate that they will team up and face Ironwood and the three remaining Ace-Ops in a 4 vs 4 fight, but instead I would like to choose another route. As much as I have stated in the past few weeks that I think Qrow must fight Ironwood, Robynâs words of concern about fighting the general has given me thoughts on what they should actually do to undermine Ironwood.
With Winter and Marrow possibly defecting and teaming up with the âbird duoâ, I would like to speculate that these 4 will go after the source of Ironwoods power and control.....the Atlas Military. Much like how Ironwood has been spreading his control and might of the military through live video feeds, Winter will do the same and broadcast a live feed of herself, Robyn, Marrow and Qrow to plead out to all of the military to go against Ironwoods orders of destroying mantle.
There will be some obvious backlash from the military with Qrow on the screen as he is charged with the murder of Clover, but Robyn would wash any doubts of Qrows innocence by using her semblance on him and show everyone that he actually didnât kill Clover.
-(An Unconsidered Risk) As we last saw Ruby and the gang they were formulating a plan on how to get Penny to the vault. I definitely know Iâm gonna get this speculation wrong, but hereâs my attempt on what may actually happen.
Ironwood and the Ace-Ops will be awaiting at the entrance of the academy for Penny to arrive alone. From the distance Penny is seen walking towards the academy, with an escort of Yang, Blake and Ren, much to the surprise of the Ace-Ops who assumed Yang and Ren were dead. Not taking any chances, the general orders the group to stop and asks where the others are. Blake will say that they are down in mantle tending to the refugees, while Yang states that both Jaune and Oscar unfortunately died in the explosion earlier. The two groups throw some jabs at each other about their current circumstances until Ironwood orders that Penny moves forward to him, and that the rest not move another inch until they are safely inside the academy. Yang, Blake and Ren comply with the orders and let Penny walk towards the general, and in that moment Renâs semblance kicks as he seeâs Ironwoods emotions.
As the general is greeted by the lone maiden, he acknowledges Pennyâs commitment to protecting Mantle and apologizes that things had come to be this way. With no emotion Penny remarks back to the general that she must âopen the vaultâ and becomes silent. Startled by her lack of emotion, the general comes to the conclusion that Wattâs virus is still in effect. Without hesitating the general allows Penny to walk into the academy as he follows behind her. Before doing so he orders the Ace-Ops to tail after Yang, Blake and Ren down to Mantle, as he believes that they may still be up to something. The three follows their orders and pursues after the kids, as the general escorts Penny down to the vault. Unbeknownst to him however is that the âPennyâ that is with him is actually Oscar in disguise, thanks to Emerald who is secretly walking along beside them.
As Oscar and Emerald walk with Ironwood inside the academy, Ruby, Weiss, Penny, Jaune And Nora will fly underneath to Atlasâs base and enter through the entrance to the vault created by Oscar after he was shot by the general. The hope is that if they can take the staff out of the vault and bring it down to Mantle, they can threaten the safety of the staff by ensuring that if mantle is destroyed, then the staff will possibly be destroyed along with it.
-(A Tin Manâs Paranoia) Knowing they have a small window of time to take the staff out of the vault, Oscar will ask Emerald to create illusions to play into Ironwoodâs paranoia, so that they can help stall for more time. This will work for at least a few minutes until the strain overcomes Emerald and she releases her semblance. Finally free from her tricks, the general will reach for his gun and shoot Emerald, who is luckily saved by Oscar pushing her away. Knowing he has been tricked the general alerts his forces to set the bomb up to detonation, as he rushes toward the vault alone.
-(The Staff Of Creation) With a little bit of trouble from keeping the virus taking over Penny, Rubyâs group guides Penny to the vault and lets her open it. Much like when the Spring vault was open to reveal a different plane of existence, the winter vault reveals a large cavern covered in large crystals from wall to wall, and at the center was the staff of creation. Ruby and Penny walk inside and both grab the staff and walks right back out. Unfortunately they are welcomed by Ironwood, who is pointing his black gun towards our heroes.
Weiss, Jaune and Nora ready themselves to fight the general but Ironwood threatens that if they do anything Mantle is destroyed. The general and kids bicker between one another of the generals handling of their current circumstances until Ironwood gets fed up and asks them one more time to hand over the staff, as he orders his army to begin preparing to drop the bomb onto mantle. Unfortunately for the general the response he hears back is instead Winter giving out her speech to the Atlas Miltary to turn against Ironwood orders and cease all actions against mantle.
Down in mantle as Winterâs speech is being broadcasted, the Ace-Ops come face to face with Yangâs group as they begin to prepare for battle. As Harriet ignores Winterâs broadcast and begins to charge towards the kids, Elm and Vine stops and pins her down to ground as they too choose to go against the generals orders. The rest of the Atlas military soon follow along to Winters speech and cease all their orders given by the general.
-(Last Stand) Frustrated that he is close to defeat, Ironwood makes one final stand and rushes toward Ruby and Penny to grab the staff. Weiss, Jaune and Nora blocks his path and manages to land a few blows to the general, but is quickly overwhelmed by the experienced huntsmen as he takes them out one by one. With no one in his way he rushes toward Penny and the staff but is blocked off by Ruby, fighting to protect her friend. She manages to hold him off to the point that he becomes weakened, but he unfortunately gets the upperhand and pins her down. As he prepares to shoot Ruby he is quickly blasted by Pennyâs lasers and is pushed back with his aura completely broken. The virus begins to take effect on Penny again as Ruby, with her aura broken as well, rushes to pennyâs aid. Near his boiling point Ironwood points his gun toward an unaware Ruby and shoots, but the bullet is blocked by Qrow and his Harbinger.
-(Letting Go Of Grief) Delighted to see her uncle, Ruby thanks Qrow for saving them. Qrow smiles back at her and then focuses on the man right in front of him. Ironwood scoffs at the appearance of the lone huntsmen and begins to shoot multiple bullets toward him. Qrow walks slowly towards the general as he blocks each bullet with his sword. The general eventually runs out of bullets as he comes face to face with Qrow. Beaten and exhausted the general throws one last left punch but itâs blocked by Qrow, catching Ironwoods fist in his hand. The two glare at each other for one small moment until Qrow releases Ironwoods hand and embraces the general with a hug. The general is startled by this sudden gesture from his adversary and is followed by Qrow telling James that âthis is enoughâ. Overcoming with emotions Ironwood silently weeps, as he admits defeat and collapse to his knees, with Qrow still holding on to him.
-(One Curtain Falls, Another Rises) Winter descends down into the vault and lays her eyes upon the sight of her former leader on the ground with Qrow, and her sister with her friends. After a quick hug with her sister, Winter informs everyone that sheâll order the military to aid in the complete evacuation of Atlas and Mantle. With mostly everyone delighted by the news Winter makes a quick call to the team handling the bomb and orders them to cancel its detonation sequence. Unfortunately she is responded back by Cinder on the other side of call. The episode ends with Cinder claiming that she has taken possession of the bomb down in mantle and threatenes that she will use it unless Ruby Rose delivers the staff to her.....alone.
Pheeeeeeeeew this was a long one to write but Iâm glad I was able to finish it đ
. Well as always I canât wait to see what happens in tomorrowâs episode and hope to see you guys on the other side đ.
Till then....see you in the AfterMath......BUH-BYE!!!

Biting Dust - Ch.3
Life ainât too easy for a woman, âspecially not a woman on the run like you. With a bounty on your head and gunpowder in your nose, youâve grown adjusted to a life of solitude away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. That is, until you meet one particular man whoâs got a face youâd only ever seen in your dreams â or on wanted posters. And when he offers you a proposition that sounds too good to be true, well. You donât think your life will ever be the same againâŚ
Outlaw!Kylo Ren x Reader

                         -------------------------
You wake up with the sun, with the earth. The sky blazes in a pink and purple blanket of clouds, cacti juttinâ up proudly from the ground, a black silhouette against the pale light of morninâ. The birds are your first call, the alarm mother nature herself has set for you, the one which youâve obeyed every day for as long as you can remember. Thereâs too many of them, the chirps, all of them in an off-beat harmony that goes on echoinâ over the gorge.
The water is your second alarm, the soft rush of the river as it twists and turns âround the bend a thousand feet below. The sound of it alone has you sighinâ with relief, knowinâ youâve made it to water. Water wasnât too easy to come by out in the desert, but the chicken scratch on that map had done you good, had led you straight to where you needed to be.
The sound of footsteps approachinâ is your third alarm â and this alarm was one felt deep in your gut. Sittinâ upright real fuckinâ fast and holdinâ the gun steady in the direction of the sound, you blink away the sleep sand from your eyes and level a glare so mean it coulda killed the sonofabitch stranger on the spot.
But then you open your eyes a little further, and you focus on just who the sonofabitch is, and you sigh.
Oh right, you canât help but think with a groan. Kylo Ren.
He looks well rested, if a little scruffy. Scruffy, you think with a scowl, how the hell does he look so sleep mussed and yet still handsome? That wasnât right, not one damn bit.
The events of the day prior come slamminâ through you all at one, and you toss the gun down lightly as you fall back onto the bundle of sacks that youâve called your pillow, stretchinâ your limbs way high up over your head. Kylo is chipper, a morninâ person it would seem, and heâs standinâ over you blockinâ out the sun from your eyes like a gentleman.
âMorninâ Angel.â He greets you, offerinâ you a hand. âSleep tight?â
You regard the hand, regard him.
The fact that you woke up at all is a surprisinâ one â a damn surprisinâ one. Youâdâve thought, well, you were almost certain he woulda left you stranded, if he left you alive at all. But there he was, his hand outstretched, and you take it, allowinâ him to help haul you up onto your feet.
âYou didnât kill me.â You say instead of a proper greeting, and Kylo rolls his eyes.
âWell that would go directly against the proclamation I gave to offer my protection, now wouldnât it?â He replies sarcastically, puffinâ on that same cigarette he had worked on last night.
You try not to think about how good it looks between his crooked teeth.
âThose were just words.â You shrug, avertinâ your gaze and regardinâ the horses. Agnes and Sam seemed to be chumming up real nicely, the both of them grazing side by side on the few desert plants that managed to grow near the gorge. âI didnât think youâd actually meant âem.â
âIf thereâs one thing you should know âbout me, itâs that I say what I mean and I mean what I say.â Kylo is serious in a way that makes you raise a brow, and he continues, âToo many tragedies get born from mis-communicatinâ, donât you think?â Â
âI wouldnât know.â You lie, not feelinâ like divulging anything about yourself to this man, not yet. You donât know him, donât trust him, how could you?
Yes he didnât go killinâ you when he had the chance but what if that meant he was savinâ it up to kill you later? What if --
âAre you hungry?â Kylo interrupts your train of thought before you can spiral down into a paranoid place. It was just strange, so damn strange, the way he regards you so calmly. Even up in the tree he had spoken to you like heâd known you your whole lives.
You were sure youâd never met him, a face like his wasnât one folks seldom came across, and one even less likely to forget.
Dusting off the beautiful Hopi blanket and folding it neatly, you think the question over. Really, your stomach was still pretty full from the meals youâd enjoyed at the hotel, and you knew that the earlier in the day you started eatinâ, the hungrier youâd be later on. It was a tough life, and on your own youâd gone too many days without food at all in your belly, so the thought of givinâ any of it up now didnât sit too right with you.
âIâve got some dried fruit and nuts in the knapsack,â You say anyway, because really energy was good and you would need it to deal with him, this man. Kylo nods once and makes to rifle through the knapsack, and you donât know what comes over you but you offer, âWeâll split it.â
Kylo looks at you with an expression you canât quite place. He looks caught off-guard by that, by the offer. And maybe he was, food beinâ so scarce out here in the desert the way it was, particularly for a couplâa outcasts like yourselves. You try not to think about those two dollars you gave up the day before.
You wonder if Kyloâs got any money, what might be in his knapsacks he rides around with.
âI boiled us come coffee.â He blinks, and you blink too â well, you think, thereâs one thing he carries on him.
The fire from last night mustâa smoldered out while the both of yâall were asleep, because thereâs fresh brush smokinâ up into the morning sky when you turn to take in the sight of the tin coffee pot bubblinâ away. As a matter of fact, Kylo moves over there now with the fruit and nuts in his hand, fixes a cup while itâs nice and fresh and so it donât get scorched. Youâll have to drink from the same cup, you realize, because you donât have one. The only thing youâve got are the canteens for water, and you canât go pourinâ coffee into that.
âHow long have you been awake?â You ask, gratefully accepting a big handful of nuts and some dried apricots.
âBefore the sun, wanted to get the coffee started, and needed to go lookinâ for some salve, for this here burn.â Kylo tilts his head to the side and exposes the nasty red gash that winds itself âround his throat. He grumbles and scowls, âHurts like a bitch it does.â
You toss back a big swig of the coffee and crunch down on a couple pecans before you pull one of the bags over and begin openinâ up the different pockets and pouches, lookinâ for the jar of ointment you know is there.
âCâmere.â You wave him over when you do find it.
It ainât a big jar or nothinâ like that, but itâs still good, smells just fine. If anythinâ was gonna soothe that burn it would be this. You had purchased it from a medicine man some months back as a precaution, and though you know youâd have to use the whole thing on him eventually, it beat lettinâ the ointment spoil and wastinâ the money.
Kylo sits close to you, real close. Too close, the way he was yesterday, in your personal space. Youâre wary of him, but he sits real still, eyeing the ointment. Itâs now that you actually take time to look at what heâs wearinâ, as you push his clothes out of the way.
Heâs got a long coat somewhere, you remember seeinâ it hanginâ around his body up in the tree. Heâd been hidinâ a smartly fitted pair of brown corduroy trousers and heeled boots, a white button down with billowing sleeves, and a dark red waistcoat underneath it. There was a gold chain peekinâ out of one of the waistcoat pockets, and youâre pretty sure itâs a watch.
You wonder if heâs got someoneâs picture in it.
Somehow, this close to you, heâs enormous. Absolutely the biggest man youâve ever seen, his hands alone are longer than your face, you can tell just by the way he runs his fingers through his long dark hair.
He sits still, real still, and closes his eyes. Ever so gently, you scoop up a little bit of the salve and hold your breath as it makes contact with his neck. Kylo doesnât wince, doesnât do anything as you smear the ointment against his angry skin, and you have to admit, youâre impressed. Even if this were another exaggerated display of toughness, youâre impressed.
You make sure to cover every bit of the rope burn, mostly because you donât want it to get infected. Itâll likely scar, but Kyloâs got bigger and badder scars to concern himself with, you doubt that this one will bother him much. And if it does, well, too fuckinâ bad, at least he ainât dead.
âThank you.â Kylo says softly, his voice deep in the quiet of the morning. Heâs so close, too close, as you close the little jar and put it back in your knapsack for when you know youâll have to reapply it for him. Kylo watches as you do so, bringinâ his cigarette back up to his lips and humming, âYouâve got magic in that bag or somethinâ?â
âNot magic, just a lifetime of shit.â You say, and for the first time that you let him see, you smile at him.
Kyloâs still too close, and he doesnât go movinâ away once the bag is closed and you pluck the cup of coffee from his hands, bring it up to your lips and take a sip of the bitter brown brew.
âI reckon weâre goinâ down to that there river, ainât we?â Kylo nods in the direction of the bend, and you smack your lips, the coffee coating the roof of your mouth.
âYouâd be reckoninâ right. It wonât take long, maybe only an hour on account of havinâ to be real careful the horses donât slip, and then we can move along the river.â That was the plan anyway.
Yesterday youâd been privy to a nice long soak, and it had done your muscles wonders, but you had a bundle of bloodied clothinâ you needed to get washed and get washed ASAP. You were still in the blue dress, and you knew youâd feel much more comfortable in your ridinâ clothes, except the ridinâ clothes were stained through with dried blood right about this time.
That was going to be a bitch to get out, you think as you sip your coffee, but you try to remain optimistic about it. Really it only mattered if the blue dress stayed nice, that was the only one townsfolk were liable to see.
âWhere are we headed, when we follow the river?â Kylo takes the cup of coffee back and pulls a deep swig out of it.
âIâm going to Colorado.â You make a point of emphasizing, and he only frowns with something like concern.
âCentral City or Victor?â He chews on his lip, his good eye a little too bright, a little too interested.
âIâve heard nice things about Victor. I think there might be a good chance of gold there.â You shrug with one shoulder, feigning interest.
Whatever Kylo might be after, whatever he might want, you donât want him to know that you want this more, more desperately than anything anyone could ever want.
âSo itâs gold that youâre after.â He muses, and you snap your head to glare at him.
âItâs freedom Iâm after.â Youâre real quick to correct him, not wantinâ you to think that youâre just some greedy person wantinâ to get their hands on every last penny they can. You knew people like that â had known â and you never wanted to be anything like them. Itâs just that, âFreedom donât come cheap, and goldâs the best place to start with something like that.â
Kylo looks down into his coffee for a long while, contemplatinâ what youâve just said. You wish you could see inside his head, wish you could hear what he was thinkinâ. Was he the same? Was he itching for a plot of peace and quiet and calm?
Where had he been headed, when youâd found him?
âI can take you there, to Victor. Iâve been before, so I know the way. Shortcuts through the canyons and everything, I swear.â Kylo pinches out the cigarette and sticks it back in his pocket, clears his throat a little. âIâm good for it, youâll see. Besides, itâs less conspicuous to go travelinâ in pairs than for a woman to go ridinâ into town alone, âspecially a rough town like Victor.â
âI can handle myself just fine, thank you.â Unless yesterday, youâre not quite so venomous with the way you respond. In fact, you find yourself in a rather teasinâ playful kinda mood now that the caffeine is perkinâ up your system. âI seem to recall between the two of us, I was the one cuttinâ you down.â
Maybe Kyloâs in a playful mood too, because that almost gets a smile out of him.
âFair enough. But seeing as youâre stuck with me for the foreseeable future anyway, might as well take advantage of my good sense of direction.â He points out, and you have to ask:
âWhatâs in it for you?â
Kylo hesitates on that for a little while. He looks over to the rising sun, now well into the sky. Itâs no longer purples and pinks, but the pale blue youâve grown so used to seeinâ hanging over your head. Birds fly high above you, their wings spready wide.
You wish you could fly.
âMy gangâs waitinâ for me there. We got separated few weeks back, and thatâs always been the meet-up spot. Iâm hopinâ that, if theyâre alive, theyâre there and waitinâ. Iâd like to at the very least get there to find out.â Kylo says finally.
âThose would be the Knights of Ren.â You muse, still not really believing him. Youâll call him Kylo and you wonât kill him for it, but youâre not convinced, not really.
âThat they would.â Still he sticks true to his story, and something changes in his voice with the way he talks about him, âTheyâre the closest thing to family a guy like me could ever get, and if Iâm beinâ honest with you Angel, Iâd very much like to get home to them.â
You sigh and get up, brush off the sand from the skirt of your dress and offer him a hand.
He looks at it, looks at you, then back at it, and with a hopeful glimmer in his eye, he takes it.
                         -------------------------
The journey down the canyon is done in silence, mostly outta concentration. Neither of you want to distract the horses as they make their way down the perilously narrow pathways carved out of the canyon by millions of years of rivers flowinâ through these parts, so you stay quiet.
Itâs nice, the quiet, gives you time to appreciate the beauty of it all. Youâre surprised Kylo manages to shut up for two seconds, with how chatty he seems to be. You canât go blaminâ him too bad though you suppose, if heâs been on the run as long as you have, if heâs been alone as long as you have, a fresh face to talk to was probably the most welcome thing Kylo couldâve asked for.
Eventually, you do get to the bottom of the gorge, and Agnes and Sam both make a beeline to the riverâs edge. You and Kylo have to yank on the reigns and get them to slow down, theyâre too excited and it would be really shit to have all your bags soaked.
An hour or two after breakfast you find yourselves face to face with Horseshoe Bend, the lush vegetation that grows right along the bank. The water is a rich blue, and the land around it is a deep green, and you donât think youâve ever seen something this magical, so refreshing after eons of red and orange dirt.
The first plan is to fill the canteens, which you do right away. You fill them all up until there ainât no air left, and then you fill âem up some more. Then, you decide, you have to wash the blood outta your clothes.
Kylo watches you do that right on the bank, doesnât say a word. He doesnât ask any questions, and for that youâre grateful. You wouldnât have the answers to go givinâ him. He leaves you to your own devices as a matter of fact, walks away from where youâre kneeled over the steady stream of water to go tend to Sam.
Something comes over you, and idea, a notion poppinâ into your head.
You begin to strip down to nothinâ, not a stitch of clothing on you, and you tiptoe into the river.
Itâs a risk, of course.
But itâs also a challenge.
He wants you to trust him. Trustinâ means vulnerability, and you canât think of nothinâ more vulnerable than this. If he wants you to open yourself up to him, well shit. Heâs gonna have to open himself up to you too. So there you are, naked in the river. The water is cold against your skin, the current whooshing between your legs. Every now and again a fish bumps into your shin, and you suck in a small breath of surprise as it passes you to continue its journey down the river.
Your back is to Kylo, givinâ him time to make a decision â join you or not. You havenât decided yet what youâll do if he joins you, but you hold your breath and wait.
A few moments and some rustling later, you hear the light splashing of Kylo stepping in too, and your pulse pounds. Youâre not quite right next to one another or nothinâ, but definitely close enough that he should be able to hear you when you chew your lip, the inside of your cheek, and ask,
âAre you lookinâ?â
You donât know what answer you want him to give.
âNo.â Kylo says, says it hesitantly. He doesnât say it like itâs a complete sentence, like thereâs more he wants to tumble out of his mouth, but nothing comes.
âDo you want to?â You whisper, turning to face him.
You smile briefly, because heâs turned away from you too.
Only for a moment though, before heâs glancing over his shoulder and lookinâ at you, really lookinâ at you.
Exposed, is how you feel, in a word. Your shoulders are squared and your chin is raised in defiance, your tits out above the water. Itâs almost a dare, seeing how long itâll take him to glance down, to break the staring contest youâve found yourselves in.
He breaks first, you find with a small thrill, as you watch him look at you, take in the sight of your body. His isâŚa marvel. Incredible, really. Heâs so wide? Impossibly broad, the kind of shoulders you could sit on with no problem. And he was wide all the way down, stomach not tapering down to trim hips â no, this man was sold through and through.
Solid, and covered in scars. He shows them off proudly, the same way you show yourself. Itâs a challenge, a dare, a plea. You donât know what youâre askinâ for, but itâs a plea nonetheless. Hesitantly, he takes a step towards you. Heâs askinâ for permission in this silent way, a hand outstretched. You bite the inside of your cheek and take a step towards him.
This dance continues, one step after the other, the both of yâall coming to meet in the middle.
Itâs the water, you reckon. The cooling river washing away your sins, your crimes. It took the blood out of your clothes, will it rinse the very same from your hands?
Suddenly, somehow, heâs too close again.
This time, for some reason, you donât mind.
You tilt your head the barest bit, and whatever youâre askinâ for, he seems to be answerinâ, by resting his forehead against your own. He hunches down and curls himself around you to fit, to make up the distance from beinâ so much taller than you, and he lets out a contemplative sigh.
Silently, you stare into each otherâs eyes. This close, you focus on the mangled and marred one heâs got, the scar that goes with it. It starts from his browbone and carries all the way down to his shoulder. How did a man go about gettinâ something like that, you wonder. Heâs sure to have a story for it, somethinâ like that, somethinâ as big as that always had a story.
âI like the way your leather smellsâŚwhen youâve been ridinâ all day.â He says abruptly, doesnât break his gaze from yours, lookinâ from your left eye to your right with the only one heâs got left.
You blink rapidly, unsure what to do with that information. Unsure what to do with him.
Unsure what to do with yourself.
âWhatâs it smell like?â Your ribcage expands when you take a deep breath, a steady breath.
âLike sweat, the earth.â He replies hungrily, his eye darkening with what you know has to be lust, âIt smells warm, like itâs still alive. It smells like you.â
âAnd what do I smell like?â You stare him down, making him sweat even there in the cool of the river. Itâs fulfilling, seeing him sweat under your gaze.
âI â I donât know.â He admits, voice faltering.
âDo you want to find out?â You whisper, eyes wide, terrified.
When was the last time you did this sort of thing with someone? You canât remember, not as far back as your memory goes â and it goes pretty damn far. Youâve never done this, not with another person, not in broad daylight. And what would you do, if he said no? If he thought you a cheap loose woman now, if he â
âPlease.â He whimpers, and oh.
Oh.
He was the kind of man youâd been dreaminâ about, wasnât he? The kind who needed a firm hand, who wanted to be put in his place. Made sense, it did, if this was really Kylo Ren, surely no one would dare try out of fear of beinâ shot. Well, heâs not got his pistol on him, and your hands are already smoothinâ up his chest, already dragginâ up to his shoulders, around his neck, fingers weavinâ into the hair at the base of his skull.
Giving and encouraging little nudge, Kylo ducks his head down and shoves it into the crook of your throat, already taking in deep gulpfuls of breaths, smelling you. He must like it, must like the way you smell, because in seconds you can feel his cock filling out hard and thick, pressing against your stomach. Itâs huge, and that shouldnât surprise you given the rest of him, but it still does.
Without so much as a second thought, you let one of your hands wrap around it, and Kylo immediately moans.
âYour cockâs hard for it?â You lick your lips, curious, wanting to see where this takes you, where the two of you will go.
âYes.â He replies straight away, and something about that trips your brain up. He likes answering your questions, he likes doing what you say, he likes when youâre pleased with his answers. You can tell by the way his cock gets harder harder harder, and you give it a squeeze.
âFor me or the leather?â You whisper, mouth run real dry. You shake your head and speak low in his ear, makinâ goosebumps shudder through his flesh with a groan when you say, âYou can take care of it, if youâd like. Ifân you need to.â
Releasing his dick, Kylo groans at the loss. His hand replaces yours, and he begins a slow stroke. His face is still tucked into your neck, and heâs still breathing hard, breathing you in. You canât see much because of the way heâs shoved himself against you, you canât see past the wall of muscle that is his shoulders and back, but you can feel it.
His hand speedinâ up, twistinâ the muscles in his arm twitching and spasming as he grunts softly, groans. Your ego swells at the thought that all of this is because of you â before your mind catches up and scolds you for the thought. You were probably just a body to him, to Kylo. Just another pair of tits, a naked woman for him to feast his eyes on.
âCan I kiss you?â He asks, voice wobbly with how heâs workinâ at his dick, jerkinâ himself off.
âNo.â You shake your head, your mood souring just the tiniest bit. Him wanting to kiss you helps soothe your thoughts, so you keep your tone light, âBut you can taste me. Come on cowboy, taste me.â
It was the right thing to do, to say, because the moment your words leave your lips, Kyloâs tongue is pressinâ against your pulse. He moans outright, his hips bucking up into his fist, shoulders curlinâ in on themselves so they can press him closer to you. Your arm curls around his waist, friction against your nipples as he shudders and shakes against you, laves his tongue and licking up the sweat thatâs started to collect.
Your pussy throbs, so turned on by him, too turned on â but you wonât let him watch you do that, not today. Youâve won this battle, this test, this challenge for trust, he will win another day. Youâll find some secret time to touch yourself, to slide your fingers between the folds of your cunt and rub at your clit and come around your fingers like you spend so many nights doing; although this time, youâre sure youâll be doinâ it to the memory of him,
âAngel, oh â ughn, thatâs good.â He moans, voice gravelly and deep, the back of his throat clickinâ with want. Your name, your name sounds divine cominâ outta his mouth, and you want to hate how much you love it, how it makes the pit of your stomach flutter.
Ainât nobody ever said your name that way before, not like this.
âIâve got you.â You soothe him much like you used to soothe the childrâno, you shake your head, not the time, not the place. Kyloâs whining and crying, you can feel the wetness against your neck as he licks your throat, sucks on it, worries it between his teeth as he tastes you.
He comes before he can give any warning, aside from the way his body tenses up all of a sudden.
âMmm, ah, ah,â He shudders as he spills over his hand, his fingers blockinâ it so it donât go arcinâ up onto you. You appreciate that, the consideration, even though you wouldnât have minded one bit. Youâre in the river after all, and the river washes everything away. He winces and sighs and groans out a little, âFuck.â
âHm?â You donât step away from him yet, you donât go nowhere. You stay close, right there, too close.
âProbably shouldnâtâve done that in the water weâre supposed to drink.â Kylo grumbles, slightly slurring his words.
Something about that makes you want to laugh, and you only rub his shoulder. He looks up at you with that big brown eye, the other one milky white, the reflection of the universe, everything and nothing inside of it all the same.
âIâve already filled the canteens, but the current will take it.â You say like itâs no problem, because it ainât no problem, not really. You donât know what to do next.
What comes next, in times like these? You donât have the know-how, not really, you donât know what to say. So you simply grab a bar of soap thatâs been resting on a rock that justs outta the river, and wade deeper into the water, tossinâ over your shoulder, âNext time aim somewhere else.â
                         -------------------------
Later, much later, when your clothes have dried and youâve changed into clean outfits, the both of yâall walk a great long distance against the riverâs bank. Sam and Agnes must be thrilled, you think, to be out of the immediate blaze of the sun, the cliffs of the gorge sheltering yâall as you keep close to the river.
Kylo doesnât say much, but he does walk beside you and not in front of you, and heâs earned a shred more respect from you for that.
âWhat were you doinâ, stealing the sheriffâs horse?â You ask, the question havinâ been on your mind all day.
For the first time, he doesnât react well to your questions, stops straight in his tracks with a murderous scowl, and for a second, you think he really could be Kylo Ren.
âI didnât go stealinâ no fuckinâ horse!â He fumes, hands wavinâ all wild like as he talks, as he explains, âSam had gotten herself all interested in the town and wandered off in the middle of the night. I had to walk eight miles followinâ her fuckinâ prints in the sand only to find her integrated into the town. When I tried to explain that she was mine, they didnât believe me and strung me up.â
Thereâs a lot of questions there that you could ask, but the one that blurts out before you have a chance at a real thought it,
âYou tracked her prints for eight miles?â
You stop walking too, impressed. You hate to admit that youâre impressed. You were so used to runninâ, so used to avoid beinâ caught that you never really learned how to chase.
âItâs easy when there ainât no wind.â Kylo doesnât move, regards you carefully as he explains, âNothinâ to blow âem away.â
âWhat about when there is wind?â You demand, not sure why youâre suddenly so interested. Maybe youâre jealous, is that what this is? Jealousy? Maybe heâll teach you, you think, maybe heâll show you.
You think about your wanted posters, how yours is only 25,000 and his is 100,000. You wonder what else he might be inclined to show you.
 âIâm real good at that sort of thing, my uncle taught me. Tracking, trapping, hunting, herding, you know.â Kylo says, âWhen it comes time for dinner tonight, Iâll show you.â
                         -------------------------
He hunts a cottontail, for dinner.
Youâve never been able to catch a cottontail, you think, as it roasts slowly on a spicket over the fire that you and Kylo built once youâve settled in for the night. Youâre a long way away from Horseshoe Bend now, but you havenât left the closeness behind. Further along the river you and Kylo have set up camp for the evening, and this time, you donât worry too much about him guttinâ you in your sleep.
You still worry about it oâcourse, but. Not too much.
âShit.â You sigh as your teeth rip into the meat when he hands you your portion, and Kyloâs chest puffs with pride.
âAt the rate weâre goinâ, weâll be headinâ into a small town tomorrow.â He replies quietly, biting into the rabbit he serves himself, âSmaller than the last one, by a lot. I think they got maybe three public buildinâs, the rest all houses and farm. Weâll need a cover story, because thereâs gonna be questions.â
âYou wanna be my brother or my cousin?â You hum, and Kylo looks at you funny.
âIâm too old to be your brother.â Kyloâs quick to respond and he says that too harshly, a sour subject that you didnât know. Well how were you supposed to know, you think, trying not to get angry with him for snapping at you.
âHow old are you?â You wonder, because really, you know so little about him, you know so little about anyone in the world, you realize.
âToo old to be your brother.â Kylo whispers, and you nod in resignation. There was enough sharing today, you think, enough testing the waters as it were.
âCousin it is then.â You finish the last few bites of the small rabbit and begin to settle down atop your pillow made from the knapsacks and satchels, fishing out your favorite blanket and tugging it around your arms, âWeâll figure the rest out in the morning, Iâm tired.â
Itâs quiet, for a while.
Nothing but the sound of the river, and the fire that separates you and Kylo, a wall between you. You listen as he rustles and shifts around on the hard ground, no pillow and no blanket again. He puts his hat over his face as a cover against the light from the flames, you watch discreetly from the corner of your eye.
âItâll be cold again tonight.â Kylo whispers.
Come sleep next to me.
âGoodnight, Ren.â You reply.
I canât. Not yet.
 Not yet.
