December 24th, 1970
Number 12 Grimmauld Place, North West of London, hidden from the eyes of muggles. The Black family took pride in the fact that they were hosting the Yule Eve dinner party. They were Pureblood royalty after all.
The house was decorated in festive decorations for the upcoming Yule celebrations custom of the sacred 28 society. The food alone could surely feed an entire orphanage.
A young Regulus, at a mere nine years old yet dressed far better than most adults. The scratchy material of his dress robes had been bothering him from the moment his mother had forced him into them. His black locs were combed back with magical gel to ensure he remained perfect for the night.
Clasped his small hand, you ran along with him. The frills from your pink dress made it difficult to much. It overwhelmed your body. You thought you looked like a large ball of cotton candy. Which your mother had scolded you for even thinking such a thing.
Trails of pristine white ribbons once worn in your hair now lay tossed on the freshly polished floors of the manor. Your house elf had been ordered by your mother to ‘tame’ your hair earlier that night. Hours of work had been in vain as your locs had bounced back only moments ago. Sliver jewerly adorned your neck sparkling in the candle lit hallway.
Kreacher had turned a blind eye to your ‘escape’ from the dinner. Neither of your mothers had noticed your absence yet. Something which both Regulus and you were beyond grateful for. Merlin knows what your punishment would be for daring to participate in such childish behaviour. For, being a pureblood meant you never were a child. You were simply an investment.
Regulus was the spare, the second choice, a precautionary measure that his parents had taken should Sirius prove to not be eligible. You, on the other hand, were born a girl. Which meant you were to be married off the moment you were of legal age. Although you had heard the stories of girls who had been forced to marry long before that. Your potential husband would be most likely related to you in some way.
Your mother would often gossip about how the Black Family ‘kept things in the family’ in reference to how cousins married each other frequently. However, truth be told, all pureblood were related in some way or other. Pureblood had been facing excitation for centuries. In order to keep their lines ‘pure’ they needed to dip their toes into the pool of incest. The sacred 28 all crossed over if you were to look close enough. Which is why you thought your mother to be a hypocrite.
Regulus pulled you into a nock in the attic. Whilst you were still in a fit of giggles.
“My lady.” Regulus pretended to bow, taking an old feathered hat on and then off his head.
“Why thank you, kind sir.” You responded through a set of giggles. Giving him a curtse in return, just as your mother had taught you.
Regulus took your hand and guided you to sit down with him on the floor, placing his suit jacket down to avoid you getting your dress dirty. You picked up the ends of your dress to try make it easier on you to sit down. A proof sound was heard the second you touched the floor. As you quite literally fell on your ass from the sheer size of the dress. Your mother was a beautiful woman but her style was eccentric to say the least. She had dressed your sister and brother in a similar fashion, both of who were being good children and still in the dining hall.
“Will you consider promising me something, Y/N?” The boy’s language was far better than most adults you knew. Pureblood society doing of course. You were both already fluent in Latin and Greek while Regulus knew French as well. It being his family’s main language after all.
“Whatever do you mean, Reggie?” You asked in the same tone. Frowning your small brows in confusion.
“Would it be to much to ask, if you could promise to be mine forever.” His statement confused you at first causing him to explain further. “We both know our mothers will marry us off one of these days, but please choose me, your friend first.”
“As long as you promise to choose me always and forever.” You smiled back at him.
“Best friends before lovers?” Regulus asked you unsure of himself.
“I would rather have live a life with no love, than live one without you as my friend.” You took ahold of his hand gently.
“I do not wish to condemn you to a love of loneliness, Y/N.” He dropped his hand from yours, fearing he was asking you too much with your friendship.
“Reggie, with you by my side, I could never be lonely.” That had earned you a smile from him, a one larger than you had ever seen before.
Present time
Regulus Arcturus Black would never be your lover. No, your bond proceeded that of romantic expectations. Your bond would always be platonic, but it would be the deepest bond you would ever have. For your souls wore bind together in no way a lover could understand. Even if it was a childish desire to ask for your loyalty forever. To chose him over everyone else in the world. You knew, that in truth, there was only one person he had asked you to never choose over him. His brother. Which is exactly what you had done. The one thing he had begged of you all those years ago, you had done without hesitation. Breaking his trust doesn’t even cover the cost your newfound relationship had taken to your oldest one.
He was not angry nor was he upset with you. Regulus felt hurt, betrayed even. In all his life, he had lived with the expectation that he would always be second best. Only this past summer had his parents began to pay attention to him after Sirius had left home. Officially disowning their eldest, made Regulus their heir. He was only valued once Sirius was gone. For once in his life, people had began to look at him instead. It had been a long time coming, since the moment Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor. The light slowly began to shift to the younger brother. Yet, never completely, not until now. Within the span of a few weeks he had become the star of the family. A fact which had only served to make him bitter because he knew the care of his family was conditional. For they had hardly offered him a look before he was proved to be their last hope of salvation.
The worse part was Sirius believed Regulus was the first choice. When in fact he had never been someone’s first choice in anything. That is excluding you. Regulus had always been your first choice. It was something which he had come to held dearly in the span of his fifteen years of life.
Despite being a few months younger than Sirius, and almost a whole year older than Regulus. You had chosen to be his friend. As children, your mother urged you to make connection with Sirius, but you never did. Regulus was who you chose to spend your time with. Up until Hogwarts neither one of you had any real friends besides each other. Barty did not run in the same circles as the two of you before Hogwarts. The rosier twins didn’t form a friendship with you until Regulus’s first year at Hogwarts which had been their first too.
He had only asked one thing of you, and you could not give him that. You now understood his anger. Yet you still felt defensive as you were in a vulnerable state.
“You do not get to held a childish promise over my head!” You yelled, your voice reaching across the common room.
“It is not about the promise, Y/N.” Regulus stated with lips pulled into a thin unreadable expression.
“Then what is it about, Regulus?” Anger severed through your throat as you spoke.
“Rage does not consume me for the mere fact of your entanglement in a romantic relationship. As one of your closest friends, I comprehend that it is beyond my jurisdiction to dictate the auspices under which you choose to allocate your precious hours. Yet, I implored solely that you not date my own brother.” Regulus paced around the room, his hand running through hair multiple times before he turned to face you directly.
“For it is your preference that leans towards him, and no longer me. He is accustomed to being selected first and foremost in all things. I am not. Barty, Evan, Pandora and you were mine; untill you chose me over me. The one thing you promised, swore, you would never do.” Regulus voice no longer held anger, it was filled with hurt. He pointed a a finger towards your chest to further his point. Breathless as he spoke.
“Reg…” You moved towards him but he flinched away from your touch. “My relationship with him does not change the friendship I have with you.”
“Liar.”
“You say that, yet you continue to be with him. To chose him.” Regulus walked away from you but you followed without hesitation.
“You are being over dramatic.”
“Am I, so am I to just discard the only person who truly understands me. In order to allow you to satisfy your desires.” Regulus used the boot of his shoe to kick the table lightly.
“You do not mean that.” Tears were beginning to form in your eyes.
“What other choice have you given me?” Regulus breathed out barely forming words.
“I never intended to lose you, Reg.”
“Oh, well then everything is sorted. Is it not. Far be it that I have feelings and reactions to your actions.”
“Please, stop, I beg of you.” Your voice was pleading with him now.
“Would you do one decency?”
“Anything.”
“Tell me why did it have to be him.” You heard the crack in his voice as he spoke. Arms at his side and legs planted on the floor.
You squeezed your eyes shut at his question. Knowing whatever your answer would only serve to hurt him further.
“I fell for him. I tried not to. Believe me I did, but I cannot ignore my feelings anymore. Please forgive me.”
“Forgiveness does not come easy, Y/N.” Regulus eyes roared with anger, but you knew there still lay hurt behind them. “But I don’t want to lose you.”
“Does that mean…” The steps you took towards him were careful and precise to not spook him with your actions.
“I would could never live without your friendship. It pains me so, but I know I have to forgive you, but do not ask me to forgive him.”
Tears pooled in your eyes as the words left his cold lips. Before another moment could pass, you wrapped your arms around his torso. To your surprise he accepted your affection. He had never been one to allow affectionate gestures, it simply was not his way of expressing himself. Yet, in the rare moments when he allowed himself to let another in, his warmth would be unlimited.
“Can I assume I have my best friend back?” Your voice was muffled by Regulus’ green Qudditch jersey.
He pulled away from the hug but kept physical contact with you by placing both of his hands on your sides.
“You never lost me.”
Sounds of students began to fill the common room as they returned from the pitch and great hall. Undoubtedly complaining and/or talking about the lack of victory Slytherin had acquired in today’s events.
“One last thing, Y/N.” Regulus spoke in a hushed tone to avoid being interrupted or ease dropped on.
“Anything.”
“If my brother hurts you, there’s not a place in the world he’d be able to hide from me. Blood may be thicker than water, but my loyalty for you will always outweigh my loyalty for him. Never doubt that for a moment.”
“I appreciate it, but that’s not necessarily-“
“Believe me when I say, negotiation is not an option here. You will lose this argument.” Regulus’s dark eyes were completely serious and his face showed no signs of amusement.
“Is your plan to treat me like a child of divorce?”
“Mmm, we’ll work on the arrangements later.” Regulus smiled at you, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“You know you will always be my best friend, right?” You asked taking his hand in yours.
“Don’t tell Barty that, he might kill me.” Regulus leaned into you.
“Well we would’t want that, now would we.”
The life of a pureblood had taught you many things. None of which had seamed to prove helpful in any way shape or form for your current situation.
While you might have seamed to patch things up with Regulus for the most part. Although you still were treading in dangerous waters. At least you could sleep soundly knowing he was willing to come around to the idea. In time, of course.
Yet, you still faced another dilemma; your relationship. Secrets were being kept from you, that was obvious enough, but what the secret was remained a mystery to you.
It didn’t help that Sirius and Remus seamed to have no intention of letting you in on it anytime soon. Taking into consideration how much history the two had, you continued to feel out of place in your own relationship, and feared for how much long you could take it.
For the past three days, you had to be condemned to visiting your oh so loving family. Torture did not even begin to cover it. Though you knew there were pureblood children in worst situations. The Blacks were a prime example. Leading you to appreciate your dysfunctional family because at least they had never used an unforgivable curse on you. To say the bar was low would be an understatement.
So as you walked through the castle walls having returned from your trip. Your mind began to wonder. However, your moment of peace was short lived as you passed the Hospital Wing.
You couldn’t see much but you could see Sirius who was walking towards the door. Through a series of lies, excuses and distractions, the boys had managed to occlude you from Remus’s condition. Yet, your weekend away just so happened to be a full moon. A particularly horrific one in fact. No chance were they going to be able to hide it from you now.
Sirius’s sliver eyes were accompanied by purple eye bags from staying up all night with Remus. Hair fell in disarray and tangles were visible in his usual elegant locs. He appeared gaunt, almost as if the life had been drained out of him.
Upon seeing you, a serge of panic ripped through his entire being.
“Oh Salvar.” You rushed towards him in panic searching his face for signs of injury. It only worked to make him feel more guilty than he already was.
“S’m nothin’.” Tiredness and worry were evident in his voice.
“Sirius, do not take me for a fool.”
“I’m not, honestly, just-“ Whilst barely finding the energy to form words, you interrupted him with rage already approaching.
“What’ll be this time, huh?” Hands fell from his face leaving a cold chill. You crossed your arms in front of your chest, you were beyond rage, you were done.
“It’s not like that, baby.” His voice begged for sympathy but you refused to show the effort he had on you.
“Where’s Remus?”
Sirius’s eyes widen at the thought of you seeing Remus in his current state. You stepped forward to enter the hospital wing causing him to plant himself in front of you. Using his height to block your view. Your flight or fight activated. Making use of the large space of the room you tricked him by making him believe you were headed one way and then pushed past him in the other.
As soon as you had escaped his gasp, Sirius ran after you in panic. However, with our tired he was, he didn’t have the strength to carry through.
Remus lay curled up on the hospital bed. Bandages surrounded his body in multiple places. Most seamed clean but others had large red stains from blood. Bruises and cuts decorated his body like Christmas lights. The beautiful brown eyes that you had come to cherish so dearly had taken on a dull hue. With dark circles surround them and bloodshot eyes. His hair stuck up in all different directions filled with dirt and a sneer of blood.
A whine escaped the thin werewolf when he turned on his side to see who had entered. His eyes struggled to focus for a few moments to depict your figure, but when he did, he swore he felt just like he did before people knew about his secret. Ashamed, scared, horrified all mixed into self loathing.
“Remus?” You managed to choke out through the tears that had began to form in your eyes upon seeing him.
“Hey, dovie.”

Hello, I've been following you for some time and I love your posts and analyzes about Severus, I regularly update your blog hoping for more and I always wanted to send you something, but I never had the opportunity.
But recently I saw a video on TikTok, which I didn't pay much attention to, but I saw the comments and one of them talked about how if Harry was a woman and looked like Lily, Severus would be a pedophile and that that gave people the creeps. And I, personally, find this statement very funny, because as far as I remember, Snape never had inappropriate contact with any Hogwarts student, or with anyone, in fact. But people intentionally forget that the only person who had the opening to do this was Peter Pettigrew. Ron himself said that they slept together and, probably, Peter saw the boys, literal children, changing their clothes, but, obviously, it would be Snape who was the child predator.
Sorry if it wasn't very understandable, English isn't my first language and I'm using Google to help.
Hi! Thank you. I'm glad you like my rants and sometimes nonense lol
About your pint... Well, this is a very old story. If I had a penny for every time I’ve read someone spouting this nonsense, I wouldn’t be rich, but I’d have enough for a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant. It’s so absurd that I don’t even think it’s worth refuting, but just to clarify a few things:
Severus resents Harry for two main reasons, and neither of them has to do with being in love with Lily. It’s not something as childish as “uh, my crush married someone else.” No, there are several layers to it.
The first and most obvious is that, unfortunately, Harry is the spitting image of his father, who, unfortunately, was a jerk who spent his school years torturing people—specifically, and with great enthusiasm: Severus Snape. James spent seven years hunting him down and attacking him for sport, backed by his loyal ally Sirius Black and supported by his lackeys, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. While the latter two might not have physically assaulted Severus, they were there as enablers and complicit bystanders. Four against one, at the end of the day.
Severus never had the chance to heal from that abuse because, at 21, he was forced to return to the very place that had been hell for him. He had to teach students who were likely old enough to have witnessed some of those humiliations during his time as a student. A victim cannot heal in the place where they were consistently harmed.
Then Harry comes along, looking like an exact replica of James, and every time Severus sees him, it triggers him immensely. When he looks at Harry, he doesn’t see Lily’s son, nor does he see a child—he sees his abuser. And we all know Harry isn’t to blame for any of this, but the thing is, we can’t expect someone who isn’t acting rationally to be rational. Especially when we’re talking about someone who desperately needs therapy and probably medication, neither of which he’s ever had access to.
Then there’s another factor—a deeply emotional one—which is that Harry’s very existence is a painful reminder of Severus’s own role in Lily’s death. The fact that this kid is there, an orphan, is a constant reminder that Severus overheard a prophecy, reported it to Voldemort, and that Voldemort then chose to kill the most important person in Severus’s life because of it. It’s a perpetual mix of anger and guilt.
Looking at Harry forces Severus to relive his past as a victim, his most humiliating moments, as well as the terrible decisions he made because of them and their devastating consequences. This doesn’t excuse his behavior, but it does explain it quite well.
What I’m trying to say is that the reasons behind how he treats Harry are deeply tied to trauma. If Harry were a girl and resembled Lily, Severus would still feel deeply triggered every time he saw her. The only difference would be that instead of seeing James in her, he’d see Lily. I think, rather than anger, it would fill him with depression and guilt to such a degree that, instead of antagonizing her, he’d try to avoid her as much as possible. He wouldn’t want to get within ten miles of her because seeing her face would constantly remind him of the person he failed and indirectly condemned.
At no point do I imagine anything even remotely sexual crossing his mind. Especially when you consider that Severus never once confessed his feelings to Lily or behaved inappropriately toward her. I do think he’d act “softer,” but not because of her appearance specifically—more because Severus is always gentler toward women. I mentioned this in another post, but his more cordial relationships are almost always with female characters, and when he’s cruel, it’s typically far worse with men than with women.
People who lack even the most basic comprehension or analytical skills… Honestly, if they’re going to hate on him, the least they could do is come up with more convincing arguments. Sometimes it’s just exhausting to explain why their theories don’t make any sense.

In defence of Remus Lupin
On behalf of James Potter who is unable to come to his aid on account of being dead.
I don’t for a second believe James would blame Remus for not checking in on Harry.
Firstly, Sirius proves in the way he questions Harry in POA that he believes Harry to be reasonably happy with his aunt and uncle (which is odd given Sirius sees him run away but nevermind). Why would Remus think any differently? He will have believed Harry to be well taken care of. Remus also trusted Dumbledore like nobody else. If Dumbledore believed Harry to be taken care of, why would Remus doubt it?
Remus should still have checked you say, and yes, had he been healthy, I’m sure James would have agreed.
Which brings me to secondly. Throughout the series we see how little Remus values himself. He doesn’t truly seem to believe it worthwhile to fight to keep his position as DADA teacher, when Harry and his class does. Remus believes that his wife and unborn child would be better off without him. And I’m sure he believed Harry to be better off without him too.
I’m sick of people not understanding how real this feeling of people being better off without him feels like to Remus. He’s shunned all his life for what he is. Even the more progressive people don’t want their children or loved ones around werewolves (as proven by Molly in OOTP at St. Mungo’s). Tonks becomes a target to the woman who does eventually kill her because she married Remus. (There’s a real question whether Tonks could have survived the battle of Hogwarts if Bella hadn’t been so set on murdering her). Would running away have helped Tonks or Teddy? No, but that’s missing the point. Remus believes it would. And Remus would have believed Harry was better off without him.
I can’t possibly know what James would have felt but from what we see of James and Sirius’ friendship with Remus, I think they knew better than anyone how inferior Remus felt, how dangerous and contaminated he believed himself to be.
This assertion is not completely unfounded because so did everyone else. As much as I hate the HBP scene when the whole room talks Remus into marrying Tonks, and as much as JKR does an awful job at selling their story as anything other than a doomed, random and forced relationship - the idea is meant to be that they are both in love with each other. The idea is meant to be that the other adults aren’t pressuring Remus into doing something he doesn’t want to do. It’s meant to be them knowing how much Remus will not date or marry the person he loves because he does not consider himself worthy of it. It should have been a scene that was one more data point on how much Remus’ condition affected his self-worth and life choices. A scene in which in the absence of Sirius and James and Dumbledore, the other people in Remus’ life step up to remind him he’s good enough!
In my view it fails to deliver this completely (and it’s a real tragedy as JKR finally takes time to elaborate on just how affected Remus is by his condition), but ignoring the execution for a second - if Minerva, Molly, Arthur and Tonks could see how much Remus would never believe himself good enough, then James and Sirius would know it a thousand times more.
Of course the confident fanon version is a different story. He should have and would have checked up on Harry. But hating canon Remus for not checking up on Harry shows a lack of empathy in my view. Rewriting the story so that Remus was forbidden to see Harry takes away from the tragedy that is Remus’ life: this idea that he believed the world would be better without him - when so many people know it would be infinitely worse.

YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT
Sírius Black X fem!reader
Summary: Lily and James get married. And in the middle of their waltz, Y/n has a great choreography idea for when she gets married. And of course Sirius wouldn't fail to make a wish later.
Words: 2.4K+
Warnings: Nothing that alarming. Just drunk Remus and couple's sweetness.
Author: English is not my first language, I apologize for any errors there may be throughout the story. Second, I'm addicted to writing imagines based on my wishes. Today, Y/n (I) want to dance You're the one that I want at my wedding🥹
MASTERLIST
The long-awaited wedding of Lily Evans and James Potter had arrived. The biggest day of their lives.
They were both so excited for that day that they almost couldn't sleep close to the date. Rumor has it that James has been waiting for this day since his first year at Hogwarts, when he first laid eyes on the redhead.
The day was cool, but not cold. It was perfect for a country wedding. As Lily expected.
Lily and James had made a reservation at a farm hotel in the Muggle community. Where Lily always went when she was little. They rented the space for the wedding, the party and the rooms for some of their most special guests. Which was the case with Remus, Marlene, Sirius and Y/n.
Especially for these. Since they would be the couple's godparents and bridesmaids.
Y/n was in her shared room with Sirius getting ready and putting the finishing touches on her hair before heading to the ceremony.
Y/n had gotten ready with her fiancee. Lily made a point of doing this with Y/n, as the woman had been the redhead's best friend since their first year at Hogwarts.
Of course, Y/n can't refuse this beautiful request.
However, now after they were tidy, Y/n went back to the room and Lily went to take some photos.
Sirius was in the bathroom still finishing fixing his tie and Y/n was sitting on the bed putting on her heels.
"Baby, is it ending there? There are 40 minutes left before the ceremony starts and Lily wants the groomsmen there, in 10 minutes" Y/n says, soon standing up and looking once again in the mirror to fix her dress.
As the wedding was in the countryside, Lily chose a color palette that highlighted everyone who would be at the altar with her and James.
And each groomsman couple had a color. If the bridesmaid's dress was red/blue or another color, the best man's tie would be the same.
However, as Y/n and Sirius would not be godparents to the same person. They were different colors.
Lily said she had a fight because she wanted Y/n and Sirius as her godparents and James as well. And the only solution they had was to separate the couple and each have one. Which resulted in Sirius and Marlene being James' godparents. And Y/n and Remus are Lily's godparents.
"I am going!" Sirius exclaims as he exits the bathroom, still trying to tie his tie. "What a pain!! I spent my entire adolescence doing this and now I'm blank" he says and Y/n quickly looks at her boyfriend.
She lets out a smile as she approaches.
"Help me-- OH MY GOD. YOU LOOK DIVINE!!" Sirius' eyes widen when he sees his girlfriend wearing a navy blue silk dress.
It had a low back and straps, and on the right leg there was a not very large slit.
Y/n smiles shyly. Even hearing these types of compliments for more than six years.
"You look divine too, darling" Y/n approaches him and places a kiss. Sirius soon gets excited and delves deeper.
Y/n moves away and places her hands on her boyfriend's chest.
"Okay, as much as it hurts to say this. Enough!!" She laughs and Sirius smiles. "We have to fix your tie and marry Prongs and Lils"
Sirius just nods and Y/n fixes his dark green tie.
As he would be Marlene's date at the wedding, he had to buy the same color tie as his friend. Even though he hated it, because he said he was in Slytherin.
Marlene and Y/n almost hit him the day they went to buy it. Because he looked like a child having a bad time in the middle of the store.
After they both finished getting ready, they left the room they were staying in and walked around the place where the ceremony would take place.
"There are a lot of people here already, how many minutes left?" Sirius whispered to his girlfriend as they walked to where they would be positioned before entering the ceremony.
"I think there's half an hour left, or less" Y/n says quietly too, while looking around behind Remus or seeing someone she knows from school.
"Hello, good afternoon. Are you the groomsmen of the bride or groom. Right?" The officiant asks and Sirius and Y/n look at her at the same time.
"Hi, Yes!" Y/n smiles kindly.
"Okay. Are you godparents to the same person?"
"Oh! no. I'm the bride's godmother and the groom's Siri" Y/n explains.
"Okay. So Sir...what's your name?"
"Sirius Black. But you can just call him Sirius. I prefer it" he says and the officiant agrees.
"This way"
"Bye, my dear. I'll wait for you at the altar" Sirius places a kiss on Y/n's forehead.
Y/n laugh.
"Okay dear. But I'm not the bride, so you can wait for me at the altar" she smiles.
"But it will be someday" he winks and Y/n smiles, rolling her eyes.
She gets lost in her world looking at all the decorations, until she is awakened by Remus and Marlene arriving together.
"Hi, Y/n" Marlene says and she turns around. "Have you seen where Sirius is?"
Y/n smiles when she sees her friend. More precisely, your second best friend.
"Hi Marls. He's up front" Y/n informs and the shows him discreetly with his finger.
"I thought he would be late."
Y/n smile.
"That's not the case with me. Either you're late or you're left behind"
"It's good that you started dating him. Sirius was always late"
Y/n and Marlene laugh at Remus' comment.
"I remember. I almost had a fit when we were still just friends and I had school work to do with him. I was always late for the library" Y/n laughs along with the two.
"I'm going to go there, before Lily comes and kicks me there." Marlene says before leaving. "By the way, you look beautiful in that dress" Marlene looks her up and down. "Sirius is lucky"
Y/n widens her eyes and laughs. "Thanks"
"What the hell. I'll tell your girlfriend, Marls."
"Nothing" Marlene makes a gesture with her hand. "She said that day that we all went to try on the dresses together."
Remus and Y/n laugh.
"Bye Marls, see you soon." Y/n nods. "BY THE WAY, YOU CAN PINCH SIRIUS IF HE DOESN'T BEHAVE OR WANT TO TAKE OFF HIS TIE" Y/n says louder, when Marlene was already close to her friend's boyfriend.
"IT CAN LEAVE!!" Marlene smiles and makes a piece of jewelry with her finger.
"heyy," Sirius protested.
It doesn't take long, the ceremony begins. James enters, then the groomsmen and then the bride.
She was beautiful. The chosen dress fit Lily perfectly, as if it were made especially for her.
The ceremony wasn't that long, but it gave some people time to shed some emotional tears. Which was the case with Y/n and Marlene.
Which made Sirius look at his girlfriend with even more love. He couldn't wait any longer to live this moment with Y/n. It was everything he had ever dreamed of, ever since he asked her to be his girlfriend in his fifth year at Hogwarts. Under a flowering cherry tree in front of the lake.
As soon as the ceremony was over, the bride and groom asked everyone to go directly to the reserved room.
After they had the reception, they opened the dance floor, dancing to a slow and beautiful song to the sound of Abba.
"Look how beautiful" Y/n says, already at the table reserved for all the groomsmen.
Sirius, who had an arm around his girlfriend's waist, looks at her passionately and agrees.
"Yes, it's very beautiful" he says, still looking at her.
"But you know what..." she turns to her boyfriend, still saying quietly. So as not to disturb the moment. "I wouldn't choose to dance to a slow song to open the dance floor"
"No?"
"No! I would choose something more lively"
"y/n!!" Sirius laughs.
"I'm serious... I know it's their wedding. But in mine--OUR" she pauses and looks at Sirius. He smiles from ear to ear. "...I would want to dance some crazy choreography made by us"
"Like those choreographies we did at communal parties?" Sirius smiles.
"That!!"
Sirius laughs.
"I don't know, some song like You're the one that I want..." Y/n says, and then realizes what she said. "AND THAT!!" She says loudly turning to Sirius, making some look at them, especially James and Lily who laugh. But Y/n doesn't even notice. "We can do a choreography for You're the one that I want. What do you think?" She says quietly again and then turns to see Lily and James finish the waltz.
"I would love!!" Sirius says smiling and then kisses Y/n's neck. Leaving a little bite before walking away.
"Aah" she complains, but smiles.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Hours had passed and the party was still going on. Most had already left, but the people from Lily and James' school days were still there and didn't intend to leave anytime soon.
They were enjoying themselves so much that they even got poor Remus drunk.
Y/n, who was sitting with Lily around a table, laughs when she watches James, Sirius and drunk Remus dancing.
"Poor Moony, look what they did to him" Lily comments, holding back a laugh.
Y/n laughs.
"My stomach hurts from laughing so much."
After the song ended and another one started that didn't catch Sirius' attention. He returns from the dance floor and approaches Y/n and Lily.
"What did you do to poor Moony?" Y/n asks and Sirius looks back and laughs seeing Remus.
"We didn't do anything. He went crazy alone"
The two women laugh.
"What a gift"
Sirius smiles and sits next to Y/n.
Y/n didn't notice, but he was a little distressed. He snapped his fingers and banged his finger on the table.
Lily looked at him and whispered quietly to him, while Y/n was talking loudly to James who was on the dance floor with Remus, Frank and Peter.
"Are you well?" Lily asks.
"More or less..." Sirius says and then discreetly opens the blase and shows a small velvet box.
Lily widens her eyes and puts her hand over her mouth discreetly.
"Marriage?" He moves his lips and shows it on his dress, in case he didn't understand.
Sirius shakes his head and smiles.
Lily looks emotional and tries not to express too much. Until Y/n turns around.
She looks at Sirius and smiles without showing her teeth, before taking another sip of her drink.
"I danced so much that I ran out of breath. Do you want to take a walk with me outside?" Sirius asks and looks at Y/n.
She shakes her head and asks for a minute with her finger, to finish drinking the liquid that was in her glass.
"I'm done. Let's go!" she says excitedly and Sirius laughs.
He stands up and extends his hand to Y/n. She takes it and smiles at Lily, who was sitting across from her.
"We'll be right back, Lils. Keep an eye on Moony" she says and Lily laughs.
"Leave it" she smiles and then looks away at Sirius, as Y/n bent down to button her heels again. "Good luck" Lily says excitedly and makes a jewel with her hand.
Sirius just blinks and smiles.
After Y/n put on her shoes, they left the room and went for a walk around the field that was lighting up with cute lights.
Some ceremonialists were still at the ceremony site, arranging and removing some chairs that were still there.
"Did you see how radiant James and Lily are after today?! I'm so happy for them." Y/n says, holding hands with her boyfriend, as they walked to a pergola that was in the center of a lit lake with some flowers scattered around.
"Oh, I didn't know about this place" Y/n says looking at everything, while walking on the bridge that connects to the pergola. "I thought it would be cool for Lily to decorate here, even though we couldn't see it from the hall or the ceremony location" She says, arriving at the place and looking at the water of the lake, which was dark because of account of the night.
"Actually...I asked for the decoration here" Sirius says and then Y/n turns and looks at him.
"Why?" She says suspiciously.
"I came to make a request" he kneels down and removes the black box from his suit and Y/n's eyes widen. "Since the day I laid eyes on you at Hogwarts, I've fantasized about you for a lifetime. And all the moments I've spent by your side, since the day we became friends, hookups and boyfriends, have been the best. And today , when we became engaged, it couldn't be any different. Y/n, you are my point of light in the midst of so much confusion that I went through, you are my support, my heart, my love, my life and my future wife. n Y/s, will you marry me and dance? You're the one that I want at our wedding??" Sirius asks and opens the box revealing a beautiful pair of silver rings.
Y/n laughs at the last sentence and wipes away her tears.
"How can I say no to you?? Of course I accept marrying you, and especially dancing You're the one that I want with you" Y/n laughs with a few tears falling.
Sirius smiles and then puts the ring on Y/n's finger.
"I love you so much, my heart" he stands up and kisses his bride passionately.
"I love you infinitely, my life" Y/n responds and then touches her forehead to his.
"SHE ACCEPTED?" They hear James' muffled voice in the woods.
They look back and can see James, Lily, Peter, Frank, Alice and Marlene who was holding Remus by the shoulder so he wouldn't fall into the lake.
"Yes, she accepted guys!!" Sirius shouts, still hugging Y/n on his side.
"What's going on?? Who accepted who?" They hear Remus' questioning drawl and they all laugh.
"We better go, we have to get our Moony back" Y/n says and Sirius throws his head back laughing.
Author: I always forget to let you know, but I'm always open to requests. Just go to my question box and ask!!!

Well, it's me. Again! And, this time, I come with a very controversial thing. I want to speculate a little bit about James Potter. And, well, the only canon thing that can be somehow developed about him is the theme of change and growing up. And, to be honest, I really don't like this character. I think it has to do with the fact that James is actually very empty and a bit shallow? We hear so much about him, he is praised as a hero (deservedly so), then we see what a piece of shit he really was when he was younger, and… that's it. There are a lot of words about how he changed from Sirius (who apparently set up a shrine to him in his mother's room) and Remus, but nothing else. The reader is not given a glimpse of what kind of husband he was (a lousy one, Lily cried after meeting Petunia and Vernon, lol), what kind of father. I mean, we don't even have letters from him. He didn't write to Sirius? Or Peter? (Was Peter so insignificant to him that he didn't even deserve a letter?:D) Or did he communicate with Sirius through the mirror, like he was his secret lover, haha. And that's what, well, upsets me a little? We SEE Lily: the way she talks, the way she acts, through memories. There's her letter to Sirius, it's not much, but it shows her as a person. With James, despite seemingly an abundance of information about him, it's never like that. I mean, in a good way? Where he's not a bully-loser-coward who attacks a poor half-blood with his 3 idiot friends? And the whole thing about him growing up? Changing? I've thought about that a lot, and it always been surprised by how his fans talk about it.
Like, in their world, he's not just an ordinary schoolboy, he's the favorite of all the teachers, he's the favorite of Dumbledore, the headmaster, who always turned a blind eye to his atrocities at school. He's a nobleman, he's rich, he's married to a beautiful woman who bore him a son, an heir. He's a Gryffindor, the most beloved house at Hogwarts, the students from there enjoy great trust from society. He's AT THE TOP of their hierarchy, at the very top. He doesn't have to work, doesn't have to study further, because they don't have a higher education, he doesn't have to communicate with other people, earn their trust, because most of their small community adores him (Severus and all those kids who were bullied by him are clearly in the minority).
Growing up is admitting that you were wrong. It's looking at your actions from a different perspective. To face people who disagree with you, people who won't love you for who you are or for being in Gryffindor when you were 11. People who won't see you as an equal, and you have to prove your worth to them. It's shameful, it's painful, because change is unpleasant and very difficult. It takes effort. But it ALWAYS needs a push. Something that throws you off track. Changes your outlook on life.
For Severus, it's Lily's life being threatened and his mission to protect Harry. For Sirius, it's James' death, Peter's betrayal, and Azkaban (the hunger, the cold, the illness, the dementors, the madness - all of it left its mark on him).
When there's a trigger, there has to be a desire. You have to want to change, to be better, to repair the damage you've already done. And when I think about James, I think about how in his life (without Voldemort and the prophecy) he would never have had the push and desire to change. Because he is okay with himself. In canon, it is clear that James was loved by his parents, they spoiled him. He has 2 loyal friends who never question his actions. Even Peter dies because he is unable to kill Harry because of James. Lily? Lily is okay with his cruelty, his lack of empathy, she is just like him. She loves him, he is her husband, the father of her child - she was young, but clearly not stupid when she married him. She understood him and was okay with who he was.
I mean, if James can change, why can't Lucius? Lucius, unlike James, has been friends with Severus (a poor half-blood with no title) for many years, he accepted him into Slytherin in his first year, Narcissa trusts Severus with the safety of her son and asks him for help because Lucius made her feel that Severus can be trusted. But his friendship with Severus does not change anything, Narcissa's love does not change Lucius, and even the birth of a child, his son, does not change anything. He remains himself. The same goes for Vernon. No one in canon questions James's decisions and actions, no one equal in strength (or even superior to him, like Dumbledore) opposes him. No one would tell him that he was wrong, that he acted disgustingly when he swelled the boy's head or when he took off Snape's trousers. No one argues with him, does not scold him seriously. If there is no opposition, then there is no impetus for development. If there is no push that knocks the life out of you, there is no desire to change.
Not to mention that the Harry Potter world is a greenhouse where pureblood wizards never have to deal with the realities of the real world. It is a world of rich people who are not familiar with hard work or low-paying jobs. They do not have to work like Snape, Lupin or Weasley to feed themselves.
The only thing that can give James development is changes in his life that he cannot prevent. What if Sirius stops being his dog (impossible) and starts dating Snape? (possible). Conflicts, quarrels, he will be furious, terrified, especially if they are still young. He will have to be patient, polite, be a good, supportive friend to Sirius, because he loves him. And cope with Severus's constant presence in his life, with the jealousy that he will experience, but will not be able to splash out, because Sirius knows him and does not allow it.
What if Harry gets sorted into Slytherin? (my favorite plot). Will he be disappointed? Will he love Harry as much as he would if he was sorted into Gryffindor? How will he deal with Harry being sorted into the bad house? The first Potter in Slytherin? What will his relationship with Lily be like then?
What if they have to live in Cokeworth for a while, where the common workers are not as kind to an upstart nobleman as the wizards and witches are? What if James even has to (OH MY GOD) work to support his family? In a factory, a mine, as a loader, a builder, whatever, because in the muggle world he has to have a college degree to get a decent job. (and yes, he can hex people to just hire him, but let's not make him an even bigger asshole than he already is). He will have to talk to different people, learn about their life experiences, their problems, their struggles. He will learn not to judge people by first impressions, to be polite, to be understanding and empathetic.
In short, for James Potter to have any development and changes, he needs to be outside the wizarding world where he has privileges.
And I say this as someone whose first (and favorite) Harry Potter fanfic to read was a James/Severus fanfic, where James got some amazing and very believable character development. And if you've never read "Revenge Is All The Sweeter" by Twilight to Midnight, you should, because James shines in it!

coming on here to quickly rant abt remadora. Okk yess I know ‘another wolfstar shipper shitting on remadora’ here me out okay!!! Just for a sec!! I read the Harry Potter books for the first time back in 2017 and remadora was my shit. Remus was my second favourite male character and tonks was my second fave female character. (Harry and cho were my first faves — yes I self inserted into Harry and had the biggest crush on cho — yes I cried when they broke up — shut up we all had our embarrassing phases!!)
Anyways back to remadora, I just thought they were so cute together, even tho it felt a little random. But one thing that I remember that really pissed me off was the ship name. I never understood why it was ‘remadora’ and not ‘ronks’. Tonks hated being called Dora!! I remember ranting abt this on my Wattpad acc (yes I know SHHHH) when I was reviewing all the Hp ships.
I don’t ship it anymore (obviously lol) and looking back, I think my issue with the ship name is lowkey symbolic for my key problem with remadora — it basically removes everything that made her interesting in the first place and reduced her to just Another Woman Character in the series. When she got with Remus, she became more mellow, more feminine, more complacent — which are fine traits btw — but that’s not tonks!! Now as I’m older, and re-reading the series, I see a lot of subtext for a gender non-conforming and possibly genderqueer person forced into a heterosexual relationship simply becoz jo didn’t want ppl thinking Remus was gay and coz she had this weird thing abt all ‘good’ women being mothers.
Which brings me to tonk’s pregnancy — I wouldn’t mind a storyline for tonks having a child — I just hate how jkr had to fit it into this whole nuclear family model and get her and Remus to get married. I feel like a more compelling, or at least consistent characterisation would have tonks having a one night stand with Remus after they were both mourning their cousin/uncle/lover’s death. Shit happens sometimes. And it would be interesting to see Tonks and Remus grapple with this and what it means for their child.
Another head cannon I saw on tik tok was that Tonks had a threesome with Fleur and Bill and since polyamory wasn’t socially acceptable she asked Remus to be the stand in legal father — and ofc Remus would say yes coz he’s Remus!! This hc sounded wild to me at first but they all gave me queer vibes and it just makes me happy so now this is the headcanon I stick with lol.
Anyways not every woman has to have a husband and 2-3 kids to be a good person jkr!! Families are complex! Women are complex! And Tonks deserves better imo.
P.s. if you ship remadora that’s completely okay!! This is just my opinion!! I’ve seen remadora shippers who don’t water down tonk’s character/subtextual queerness — I just hate how jkr depicted the ship in canon.
#anti remadora#wolfstar#remus lupin#nymphadora tonks#tonks#marauders hcs#marauders#marauders era#this is without mentioning the thirteenth year age gap between them#usually when it’s two consenting adults I don’t mind#but tonks is a fresh and eager graduate#and remus has survived a fucking war which has aged him more#not saying it’s predatory#it’s not at all#!!!#the gap just may unintentionally create a power imbalance within their relationship#ronks#tagging this to see if anyone actually uses this ship name

The Valor Families Name Meanings
I feel like we as readers don't talk about how cool the Valors are, they're the oldest and first ruling family or the North. Not to mention Wolfric ascended the throne without any violence simply because his wife asked him too. Not to mention have mythical powers and being apart of many Northern Legends. So here's a little Valor application.
Wolfric Valor- A German name in origin meaning "Wolf Power or Wolf Ruler." Wolfric is an imposing man, one of the most gifted fighters the North had ever seen and the first to reunite the fighting clans. Wolfric often disregarded the opinions of his family, which in turn led to terrible consequences for the family. He claimed his youngest child Aurora was "A silly girl who knew nothing of love," because she did not want to marry Vengeance Slaughterwood. He also ignored his wife's worries that betrothing Vengeance and Aurora was a bad idea, in return his son Castor and Lyric Merrywood died. However he cares deeply for his family and made sure they were protected once they awoke from their sleep, he also made quick work in taking back the throne from the Acadians.
Honora Valor- A name Latin in origin meaning "Honor or Women of Honor," often giving to babies as a sign of cherishment. Honora is a great health and one of the Greatest rulers of the North, Evangeline herself said that Honor carried herself proudly, and looked like she belonged on a battlefield more than a ballroom. She is a Wise woman and knew that the choice her husband made regarding Aurora betrothal was a poor one. She cares deeply for her children going as far as bringing Castor back from the dead. Evangeline says that Honora is an excellent Hugger.
Vesper Valor- A name Latin in origin meaning "Evening Star or Evening Prayer," Vesper is the Roman meaning of "Hesperus" which is Planet Venus during Sunset. Vesper has an ability to see into the future and provide prophecies but cannot fully understand what they mean.
Tempest Valor- Orgining from early Gaul languages meaning, "Stormy or Turbulent," Tempest is the twin brother of Romulus, both brothers are said to be the creators of the Valory Arches along with incredible inventors. It is my belief that Tempest and Romulus built Castor's helm to keep him from feeding.
Romulus Valor- Latin in origin, meaning "Child of Rome," in myth and historical beliefs Romulus was the first King of Rome, and was raised by the she-wolf Lupa, in myth he was the twin of Remus. Romulus is the twin brother of Tempest Valor, both are renowned inventors in the North. It is my belief that Romulus and Tempest built the Helm so Castor could no longer feed.
Dane Valor- English and Hebrew in origin, Dane means, "From Denmark," in English but in The Torah and Hebrew tradition means, "God is my judge." The Danes were an ethnic group that were Northen Germanic but inhabited much of Scandinavia. Dane Valor is a shapeshifter, he commonly took the form of a dragon and no other shifting forms were mentioned. In many forms of Dane history their versions of dragons were said to be long and serpent-like along with being incredibly venomous. Dane is shown to be a brute in the series, and Evangeline is confused on why Lala liked him.
Lysander Valor- A Greek name meaning, "Liberator." Lysander is said to have the power of "Memories," the full length or direct skill of these powers was never explained. He was never mentioned much throughout the series but seemed to have a close relationship with his brother Dane; the two of them together seemed to be fond of tormenting Jacks.
Castor Valor- A name Greek in origin, "Beaver," Castor in the Mythos was the twin brother of Pollux, both brothers making up the Gemini constellation. In the books Young Castor is never mentioned to have a direct power, but was described as being extremely Noble and Clever. Before he was killed he had a vast network of spies and assassins that worked for him; many of these now being his Vampire Clan. Castor is the twin brother of Aurora Valor but the two seemed to have a rough relationship as Castor thought her annoying.
Aurora Valor- Latin for the word "Dawn," in myth the Goddess Aurora announced the Dawn each day. The Tears of the Goddess Aurora were said to be the morning dew that fell to Earth. Aurora Valor is described as being the Most Beautiful girl in the Magnificent North, she was very aware of this fact. While her family believed that she pissed no powers Aurora taught herself Witchcraft, she cursed Jacks out of jealousy. Aurora is the Twin sister of Castor Valor and the youngest sibling in the Valor Family. Aurora believes that her father, Wolfric, likes her sister Vesper more since she wasn't forced into a betrothal to Vengeance Slaughterwood.

The Lupin Family: a story (and headcanons)
The Lupins were a family of three: Lyall, Hope and Remus. They lived on a small farm in the town of Mold, Wales. Their house was small and simple, but incredibly warm and cozy. They were happy. Now let's start where their story starts: When Lyall met Hope...
He always saw her at the public library in a small town in Wales, she practically lived there, always with a history book in hand. He never did have the courage to talk to her, until that night. He was on that city for a mission, and it was to catch that vicious boggart, Hope had took the trail through the woods that night, after leaving her boring office job. She always had a very fertile imagination, so the boggart quickly took shape, and she started screaming, Lyall went running to her aid. He helped her and asked her out on a date. They fell in love rather quickly, the kind of love that felt like two were teenagers again, even though they were both into their thirties. They married quickly, within a year they were both married and moving together to Mold, their son Remus was born shortly after.
Hope Howell was a short skinny muggle woman, she had brown slightly curly hair, dark eyes and a kind smile. Her voice was sweet but spikey and she had a thick welsh accent. She mostly wore flowery dresses, in blue and greenish tones, she wore lots of braids and almost never let her hair down. She loved wearing the tichel to do her gardening, it was when she felt closest to God. She was a very kind mother and teacher, a great listener, even though she looked short and weak, she gave the strongest most suffocating amazing hugs
Lyall was very tall and skinny, like Remus, he had long fingers and a bony hand, he kept his brown hair short and beard visible, trimmed and organised. He had to look respectable, he had to keep appearences. He usually only wore earth tones and was almost all the time wearing the same brown suit and light washed jeans. He smoked a pipe but almost never drank. He was an atheist, like most pureblood wizards. they were really great parents, they didn't have much, not many people surrounding them, but they managed to give their son the best childhood a child could want.
They were literally SO FULL OF LOVE you could feel it in the way they looked at each other and that child was their whole lives. Their lives were basically all around Remus, Lyall loved taking him on walks and teaching him about animals, Hope always read him books, and before bed, the both of them read something for their son to sleep, that's why he started reading at a very young age. No matter how long they were married, they still remained completely in love and passion.
Lyall loved giving his wife theatrical kisses in front of Remus because he looked like a tomato whenever they showed affection in front of him.
Every Sunday night, after Remus went to sleep (or just up to his room) Lyall put out the radio on his favourite station, where they played the most romantic slow songs and he and his wife danced cheek to cheek in the living room until they got tired.
They also had a dog, a chocolate labrador named Luther, and Remus when he was little played w him like a pony, mounting in his back and running around the farm.
Their house was incredibly full of books, there was a book in every corner, everywhere you looked. the house had cranky stairs and always signaled when someone was going up or down, only Remus knew how to use them silently. Lyall was a great cook so he always made their dinner. hope had a huge green thumb and she took care of all the plants on their farm (her favorites were the flowers. They grew all sorts of vegetables on the farm and raised a few chickens but they mostly didn't eat meat. Hope was in charge of the plants in the house and Lyall of the animals, they raised chickens (for eggs), some ducks, they had a cow for the milk, and their dog, of course. hope always left some fruit outside and seeds to feed passing birds.
When Remus got bitten, just before he turned five, Lyall did everything in his power to change his mind about werewolves, he tried to distance himself from the wizarding world and only work as a farmer, working with magic when it came to treatment for Remus. They didn't have much money, but still, Lyall spent it all on research. In the beginning, he searched for a cure, a way to heal his innocent little boy, but when Remus was almost 9, he just looked for palliatives, medicine, and just the best way to take care of him. Lyall felt extremely guilty for what happened to his child, he was in a shocked state the first two days and distanced himself from his family because he didn't know what to do, he felt he had doomed and ruined his baby's life forever, but he shook it off pretty quickly, and spent every minute since, trying to make it up for what he felt he caused. But don't think that Hope and Lyall's marriage wasn't shaken by all of that, they fought a lot when Lyall spent all their money, when he couldn't look his son in the eyes, but they never even once thought of separating. They decided that even if nobody could love their child by being who he was, they would be the ones to, werewolf and all, they loved all of him. That's why they were actually okay when Remus started dating Sirius because they saw that Sirius loved their boy the way he deserved, loving all of him.
Hope wasn't very close to her family, they were either dead or lived in Cardiff, and they didn't visit often because they did jot approve of her life with no ambitions. Lyall’s family was almost entirely dead, saving for his lesbian sister (closeted) and his mother (who died when remus was 4)
After Remus started Hogwarts Hope decided to dedicate more of herself to studying and her career, so she started some research for University, so she could work full-time as a historian and researcher. Lyall worked most of his life in the magical creatures department. Still, after everything with Remus, he decided to leave the magical world and started working full-time as a farmer, selling their produce in the city. After Hope's passing, he returned to working in the Ministry of Magic. (I am not getting into details bc I don't want this to be sad.)
Lyall played the acoustic guitar, and some nights when he wasn't too tired, everyone stayed in the kitchen to listen to it. Hope knew how to play the piano and she was an awesome singer. Remus loved it when everyone was happy at home, he loved the summer days when he woke up and went to get the eggs, listened to music in the living room, watched his mother reading, waited for his father to get home from work, then they all stayed in the kitchen. Lyall pulled out the guitar and Hope sang. These were the best, and they happened almost every summer night
The Lupins adored music, they listened to the Beatles, Billie Holiday, nico, the Beach Boys, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, and anything jazz or blues (then, when Remus was a teen, he slowly convinced them to start loving rock)
The house was full of trinkets and had random things everywhere, they were somewhat accumulators because everything had a meaning or a memory to it Hope loved making jams and compote from the fruits she grew and she always sent one to Remus, she was also an amazing baker.
In the summers, Remus went to help them to sell the produce in the city, and that was when he made some friends, but honestly, he didn't really want any friends, he had his books, his parents and music, and to him, that was more than enough. It was a bit surprising that he actually made friends at Hogwarts, but his parents were delighted to hear so, even if they were a bit scared at first. They always wanted Remus to bring his friends to the farm and they were just such cool parents!
They befriended the Potters when their sons were 12 and visited basically throughout the whole summer.
They were the most supportive loving parents, they were sweet and caring. Hope showed love through food and quality time, Lyall was a man of few words but showed love through actions, he always moved mountains to make them happy.
I made them a Pinterest board because I ran out of space for photos, you can access it here

hard day
Today wasn't the best therapy session, and sometimes I feel like Lily, for every one step forward, I feel like I take ten back. anyway. just hard days and hard diagnoses and treatments.
----
Things weren't easy, the challenges were definitely bigger than what James had been promised when he married Lily.
He hoped their fights were because he had left something out of place or because she had a terrible habit of leaving lights on and closet doors open.
He definitely wasn't expecting that they would fight over this.
''You treat me like I'm a child!'' Lily yelled angrily back at him, and James took a deep breath thinking that she was just still digesting the news and that this was just another sudden change of mood caused by the turbulent day she had had. She didn't hate him and didn't want to leave him, Lily was just mad and wanting to explode with the first one who walked in front of her — and unfortunately, it was him.
''I'm just saying, it would be a lot easier if—''
''You don't know.'' Lily spoke so enraged, her cheeks were the color of her hair, as if she were fifteen again and they were fighting in the middle of the classroom because he made some joke that she didn't like. She didn't even remotely resemble the twenty-year-old woman he'd married.
''But I'm trying hard to know at least one percent, to help you!'' He almost shouted, throwing his hands up like a madman and closing his eyes to try to remember the words Remus had said to him; ''tone of voice matters a lot in conversation.'' ''Lils, I just want to help you, and I understand that you're angry and sad, it's totally your right, but let me help you at least, tell me what you want me to do or say if you just need me to hold you and be silent by your side, but say something. Let me get closer. Let me show you that there is a solution.”
''There is no solution, James, that's what I'm trying to tell you, I want you to understand that–''
''Don't repeat that I have a broken wife, or whatever the fuck you were going to say.'' James took a deep breath, almost losing his temper. ''We'll get through this together, I'll help you, and we'll be in this side by side as we've always been, what will be different now?’’
''What if during treatment I change? And if…''
"I will love you, whether you're skinny, fat, pink, white, green, blue, with or without hair, tall or short, just a walking head or full body... I will always love you," James said, knowing exactly what she meant. ''I didn't marry you for what you look like, I married you because I love who you are, the whole of you, and you're not just a body, Lily. It's not the weight on the scale or a mental or eating disorder.'' He sighed. ''Let me help you.''
''I don't want to feel like I'm a burden on someone's life, and every time we think I'm getting better it feels like I take ten steps backwards,'' She cried, standing on the step of the stairs wiping her face and sniffling, clearly getting more nervous and starting to let out the feelings she was just swallowing and pretending didn't exist. ''I feel like I'm a walking failure.'' Lily then collapsed, and James only had time to pull her into his arms in a tight hug, allowing her to pour out all her pain there.
There was nothing he could say, he knew, words at that point would be thrown to the wind, so he just stood there. With her.

hi! I just absolutely love how your mind works and I was wondering what you think Snape would grow up to be if he and Lily didn't break off, or if he had some sort of healthy support system? thanks!
Hey lovely - shit... I'm late. B^)
If he and Lily didn't break off... hm... Lets say everything was the same - he even called her Mudblood - but after a fight she accepted his apology and he made an effort to distance himself from the other Slytherins, and she recognized this strong attempt to better himself like she recognized James.
He wouldn't have been a Death Eater - and if he didn't go down that route, I think he would have been a healer/medical potioneer. What sort of jobs always need more hands, but requires people of skill - and will be in even higher demand during a war...? Hospital work. She was good at potions too. Her connection to Severus would have made her a more difficult pick for the OotP straight out of school (even if Severus was considered safe - he was still very recently a Slytherin surrounded by DE children - he could have connections...) So I see little reason for her to go down the spellcaster/auror route. Especially when healing is helping people.
I think they would have stayed inseparable, in the same career. Lily was popular - and yet for 5 years she only hung out with Sev. They were a duo. They were dedicated. When she moved on from Sev she just went to James/Sirius/Remus/Peter - and didn't seem to keep close contact with anyone else. Lily is kind of a private woman. She keeps close allies regardless of how many people like her.
Would they have married and/or had kids...? Eh. Maybe. Maybe they just weren't into that. But if they did... I don't think it would have happened during war. Severus is too careful. A child when they work so hard? When they are so young? When she is a muggleborn - in this war?? He doesn't even LIKE kids. He would be unsure about being a father. Hell - he doesn't know what good parents even look like.
That might put strain on the relationship as they get older, if she WANTS a kid... but its never 'the right time' for Severus.
But yeah - basically I think they would actually work out decently. They were pretty tight friends, and whether or not you think Snape was romantic or platonic - he was dedicated either way.
Regarding James and the boys... Imagine if James was still pining for her. He's in the OotP and intentionally gets hurt on missions so he goes to hospital to flirt with his pretty Potioneer~ Insufferable. But he could brag a little about the work the Order does... and it would have some allure to Lily, who is cooped up in the hospital all the time, overworked and often brewing the same things...
Without Harry - the only baby that would fit the prophecy would be Neville. We don't know much, but it was likely the Longbottoms had just about the same protections as the Potters did. Who was their secret keeper...? Without knowing who they were close to... probably Dumbledore. Which poses an issue for Voldemort.
The war would go on for longer, more and more Order members would be picked off, Neville would grow up heavily sheltered - but with his parents... and with HEAVY child-soldier messiah vibes. More desperate. Perhaps Lily does actually accept an invitation to help the Order - something Severus isn't sure about, because he has a better idea of what she as a muggleborn is facing. He isn't as pro-active as her. He has a comfortable spot where he is being useful. But she knows something has to be done, sooner or later, to end this war...
I gotta stop because I'll accidentally write a fic lol

Our Dirty Blood. Remus Lupin/Muggle Riddle Character
Bell Riddle inherits her grandparents house during the summer of 1994. One night after a usual day, she finds two strange men in her home with a horrific baby creature that the men call My Lord. It turns out this Lord needs her blood for some kind of ritual that will bring him back to life. How will she handle the truth that her long-lost uncle is an evil wizard? How will she handle it when she finds herself in a magic school under the protection of the Order of the Pheonix? How will she handle falling in love with a werewolf who has taken it upon himself to protect her?
Chapter 1: The Old House
The Riddle House stood tall and proud on the August night. As usual, the house was dim and hardly lit. The dark past of the house seemed to be a constant reminder to Bell Riddle.
Bell was the current owner of the large house, having inherited it from her father, whose name was Christopher Riddle, who had recently moved away. Her father’s parents, Tom Riddle and Cecilia Riddle, were killed only a few weeks after he was born. Along with his paternal grandparents, they all died in the very house Bell now occupied. Bell's father was found the next day unharmed in his cot, sleeping as if it were any other day, as if his family had not been killed. The cause of their deaths was always a mystery, but the police put it down to heart failure. Her father had ended up being taken in by a family friend and was raised with all the love a child needs. When he was around eighteen, he decided to visit The Riddle House, as he owned it after his parents’ deaths.
The house had basically remained untouched for those eighteen years, and when Bell's father went, he ended up finding multiple letters addressed to his father from a woman called Merope. In the letter, this Merope woman was begging Tom Riddle to take her back after she had found out that she was pregnant. The letters continued throughout Merope’s pregnancy when they stopped, and the final letter was from an orphanage called Wool’s Orphanage explaining that Merope had died while in childbirth and that her son was with them. Her father had spent years after finding the letters hunting down his long-lost older brother but to no avail. The Wool’s Orphanage had explained that the young boy had gone to go to a boarding school for gifting children when he was eleven. Bells Father went to nearly every boarding school in the country but could not find any traces of his brother. Eventually he gave up trying and moved to Edinburgh to pursue a career as a doctor. It was at his first job that he met Bell's mother, Nancy, and the two eventually married and had Bell in 1970.
In 1994, Bell's parents decided to move to Canada for a fresh start, while Bell chose to stay in England to start her new job as an English teacher. The job she got was in the same town as her father’s old house, so he suggested she stay there. Her father assured her that the caretaker, Frank, would look after her, and he did. He had helped her settle in her first week. Even though some parts of the house gave her the creeps, it started to grow on her. That was until one night after having dinner with Frank she was cleaning the plates by the window when a light was switched on from her house. There should not have been anyone in there.
“Frank, come look at this.’’ Bell said as she gestured for Frank to come over from the kettle.
When Frank approached, he frowned with an expression that could only be described as angry. Bell sensed that people trying to break into the big scary house was something that Frank had to deal with on a regular basis. A shiver ran down Bells spine at the thought of that.
“Damn kids, stay here; I will sort them out.'' Frank grumbled as he made his way to the front door. His old age was making him limp, and he seemed tired. Bell felt a heavy feeling of guilt at having an old man fight her battles.
“No, I will go. You can phone the police,’’ Bell had just started saying, but Frank had already closed the door on his way out. Bell watched from the window as Frank dragged himself up the hill to the house that Bell was still struggling to call home. She let out a worried puff of air as Frank entered the front entrance to the house. As the heavy door closed shut behind him, Bell made her to the phone to call for help. She didn’t want to get some silly kids in trouble, but she had to make sure that she and Frank were safe. Just as the ringing on the phone started, there was a bright green light that came from inside her house. It was quick and bright in Bell's eyes, and it made her drop the phone, causing the phone to break and the call to disconnect. Her first thought was that they had set off a bloody fire in her house. Her second thought was that if whoever was up there had hurt Frank, she was going to go mental.
Deciding not to be a coward, she made her way up the hill. The house was completely silent and dead again, completely still. Making sure the front door opened silently, she snuck her way in and shut the door behind her.
If she could get to her own phone, then she could call for help there. Still mindful not to make any sound, she made her way up the stairs to the living room that had the phone. Halfway up, she heard the voice of men she definitely did not know. The voices were too muffled to make out what they were saying, but their tones did not sound friendly at all. Freezing for a second, Bell took her moment to decide her next steps. She stared ahead at the portrait of her grandfather, who stared back at her with cold eyes. She took a small step back and cursed when the squeak of the floor echoed in the wide hall. The muffled voices stopped, and Bell was about to make a run for it when they started talking again. Her heartbeat quickened as she noticed that Frank had yet to show up.
Making the decision, she made her way further up the stairs until she could see the top of the floor, and her heart sank. At the top of the stairs just outside the living room, Frank lay on his back completely still. His eyes were open, but there was no light in them as they looked back at Bell. His chest was motionless. He was dead. His body left, disregarded by his killers, who shut the door of the livingroom. Abandoning Frank to the cold and dark hallway.

sirius black meta, aka sirius and regulus have invaded my brain again
putting this under a read more because its long and i dont want to subject my mutuals to it too much. also this is more like characterization meta than like actual book meta please dont hate me
ive been thinking about sirius' relationship with regulus and their parents involvement. now, im not of the belief that orion and walburga were physically abusive, at least not in any unique way that other pureblood families have been shown in canon (see: the longbottoms). they were definitely no dursley family, because that isnt something i can see sirius ommitting when talking to harry. if they could connect with each other due to shared abuse, i think sirius would do anything he could to help harry out.
i can see the black parents being controlling and manipulative, however. i personally see their obsession with pureblood purity as cult-like, using fear to get their sons on board with their beliefs. a kind of rhetoric like "muggleborns and muggles are trying to breed out all the purebloods. soon there won't be any of us left! we have to prolong the purity!" i can see them putting a lot of pressure on sirius as the heir to the family to get into slytherin and marry a pureblood witch. but i can also see them giving sirius a lot of leeway as a child, kind of giving him whatever he wants. especially walburga, as she may have had a lower hierarchal status in the house as a mother (and the only woman in the house) and her eldest son being the heir of the household. sirius has been known pre-azkaban to being haughty and a bully. i can see him as a young child as a dudley or draco role; things he wants just come to him, he has a higher social status than his younger brother, and he's being told all these things about pureblood supremacy and house of black supremacy.
from my reading, it doesn't seem like young-sirius understands that any of his actions have consequences until the werewolf prank he pulls on snape in 1976 (please fact check the dates but i think i got it). despite being sorted into gryffindor and (i assume) making friends with various half-bloods and muggleborns, his attitude stays the same, just shifts towards the slytherins because of the house rivalry. he still feels that sense of superiority and power, and i dont think its a coincidence that snape, a slytherin half-blood, was james and sirius' primary bullying victim. snape checks off all the boxes that sirius was told to hate as a child and as an eleven year old and got sorted into gryffindor.
sirius getting sorted into gryffindor was a point of contention in the family. his parents probably thought "well thats a shame. but there are still purebloods in gryffindor, he can still make connections and eventually marry a pureblood witch". i think sirius makes friends with james first, if not on the train then once he's sorted. the potters are a pureblood family, even if their name sounds very muggle, this he knows. he knows what his parents expect from him, so he gravitates towards james like his family may have wanted. but james is not a pureblood supremacist; im sure it was a sore spot in his family that they were stricken from the sacred 28 list due to rumors of "tainted blood" and james doesn't like the dark arts, associated with pureblood wizards, very much anyway. james was, however, just as pampered as sirius was and had developed just as much of a cruel streak. so i imagine his parents were giving him tentative thumbs up in approval when they learned he was friends with james potter.
but then he became friends with peter pettigrew and remus lupin. we dont really know how they all became friends, only that they were very close in later years. but those friendships really are what changed sirius' beliefs, as well as becoming aware of lilly evans. i mean, james, a pureblood, was infatuated with a muggleborn and he didnt seem very worried about the sanctity of pureblood lineage. so maybe all this is kind of bullshit, sirius thinks. maybe his parents are kind of freaks and the real world is a lot more chill with muggleborns and muggles. maybe his family is the outlier.
this is where i see the conflict coming in. sirius comes home from hogwarts, has all these questions that can no longer be answered in simple "because we're better" answers. but now they've raised him to be arrogant, so he thinks he's entitled to proper answers and to see his parents wrong. walburga stops being so gentle with him. he is being a failed heir, and that reflects badly onto her as a failed mother. (i still dont think they physically hurt sirius on the regular, even after he started rebelling)
regulus is caught in the crossfire, but i think he kinds of fades away until he goes to hogwarts and gets in slytherin. cue: his parents now comparing sirius to regulus. for regulus this is like the world has been upside down; for all his life sirius was the role model to look up to, and now his parents were using him as an example as what sirius ought to do? i imagine it messed up their family dynamics more than they already were. sirius builds resentment toward his younger brother and (gently, brotherly) bullies him at home when he can get the chance. due to the house rivalry, due to their parents, due to a whole number of things, sirius and regulus' relationship (which i imagine was quite close pre-hogwarts) starts to deteriorate.
at some point, when sirius is sixteen, he can no longer deal with the pressure. he cant deal with his parents expectations, with their bigotry, he cant do it anymore. so he, essentially, emancipates himself. i dont think his parents necessarily disowned him (i mean, he still inherited the house. they didn't pass it down to regulus when sirius left, meaning lots of things but mostly that sirius was still the heir). he ran away to the potters and by then the damage was done. his family was split forever.
he still saw regulus at hogwarts. i cant imagine they were very nice to each other. and i do think sirius leaving made a deep impression on regulus that eventually led to his decision to join the death eaters. i dont blame sirius for it, i agree that leaving was the best option for him, but it did have its consequences.
#sirius black#hp meta#sirius black meta#sirius meta#harry potter#thank you hp lexicon for always being there for me#maybe i'll do a similar post on regulus. ive already kind of done that though#this is how i think i'll write sirius from now on

The women in HP are so underrated and under loved it's a crime. I HATE how so many women with actual character in the books get overshadowed in favor of abusive, vindictive men who were canonically terrible people.
Narcissa? Fooled Voldemort in the forbidden forest and made a deal with a possible spy to keep her son alive, (and also fooling/defying Voldemort there too.)
Andromeda? Defies Her extremely murderous family by leaving and marrying a muggleborn. She hides Harry Potter in HER HOME and raises a child on her own after the Battle of Hogwarts. Fights in a war twice.
Bellatrix? Revered and feared witch who will not hesitate to kill you. Absolutely sadistic and we actually do see a character arc with her, however small.
Nymphadora? Auror, extremely powerful, fought in the order of the Phoenix, and married Remus despite him being a werewolf, ignoring literally all the social impressions/implications of that. Then she goes and fights in the battle of Hogwarts after just having a baby to be with her husband.
Lily? A muggle born witch who defied Voldemort three times and died for her son despite Voldemort being willing to spare her life. The absolute (and only) love of James's life, one of the best potioneers according to Slughorn. Assumed to have been recruited by death eaters according to Hagrid. How powerful must she have been for them to allow her, a muggleborn into their ranks?
Hermione? Literally the smartest witch of her age, constantly top of her class, ruthless and user of "cool logic" what most just turn to magic. Neither Ron or Harry would be alive without her. Literally trapped a woman in a glass jar and blackmailed her for an entire year.
Ginny? "Anything is possible if you've got enough nerve," was possessed by Voldemort and lived, fought at the battle of Hogwarts at 16 and dueled BELLATRIX LESTRANGE. Also dueled death eaters at the DofM at fifteen. She stole the sword of Gryffindor and defied the carrows for an entire year at risk to her life.
But do we hear about them? No. Instead we get to glorify the likes of freaking Regulus Black, Barty Crouch, and Draco Malfoy, all canonical racists and classists who joined Voldemort because they AGREED with him. Nine of them were forced. Regulus literally had newspaper clippings of Voldemort, Malfoy wished death on Hermione and other muggleborns more than once. Regulus literally tortured Neville's parents into insanity.
And then the fandom has the gall to ship characters with people who would (and did) HATE THEM. People would rather ship the mcs with their abusers and enemies who are male rather than the good, fearless, complex, and morally good female characters and that's awful.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk, sorry it was so long but that one post you reblogged about women of HP being overshadowed by terrible men reminded me of my anger about this subject. (And jegulus can go die in a hole.)
Anon, I'm loving the energy you're bringing to my inbox :D
This whole issue is what spurred me to start up the @ladiesofhpfest. I felt frustrated with the way male characters in the series get more attention than female ones. It's true that male characters get more page time because of the (misogynist) world JKR created.* Characters like Regulus, Barty Crouch Jr, Evan Rosier, Theodore Nott, etc. get a lot of development compared to minor female characters. Some minor female characters have gotten more development and attention, like Dorcas, Marlene, Pandora, Daphne, and so on, though nowhere near the level or popularity as some of the minor male characters.
I've heard before that the reason some people like the male characters and their stories is due to better development in canon. Essentially "X female character has a shitty story so I'm not interested, I'm only interested in characters with interesting stories." Tonks is a fabulous example of this. Her story arc from OotP to HBP and DH can come off as disheartening. She's introduced as this BAMF Auror, gets moody and depressed, and then "just" becomes a wife and mother.** Yet I find Tonks's story, while not fleshed out, to be super interesting. I was unsatisfied with the details we got in canon, so I've written Tonks out in a million ways. If we can provide whole backstories to characters named once - like Evan Rosier - why not beef up what we have with characters like Tonks?
Despite all this, I do understand why some male characters get more stories and redemption arcs. Think about Severus Snape for a minute. He gets a canonical redemption arc. He's also a massive dick and described repeatedly in unflattering terms. How come there isn't more uwu-baby-poor little meow meow Snape out there?
Because we have overwhelming evidence of him being a dick in the series. We have that with Draco too, but because he's "hot" he gets more attention. If Snape had been handsome he'd be a more popular character, I'm sure of it. Hotness somehow makes people better, like Regulus, or presumably Evan Rosier. What if Evan Rosier, canonically, looked like he was hit in the face with a hot shovel? Would we still be interested? Probably not.
I'd be remiss if I didn't add an important point. Fandom isn't activism or a moral measuring stick. As frustrating and annoying as I find some ships, fanon characterization, and fandom behaviors, it's all pretend. It's fictional fun. Fandom is a hobby for most of us, an outlet for our creativity and feelings.
It IS important, in my view, to point out the problems in canon and fanon, however, because these problems are symptomatic of a larger worldview. Misogyny is deeply ingrained in our world, which leads to violence against all those who identify as women (and in many cases, those who identify as nonbinary). I do think it's worth examining how we write and what we create to uncover the biases we're presenting. I'm not perfect at it. No one is. Fandom is fun and a part of the world we live in that will reflect the values and biases inside our psyches. The biases themselves do not make us morally good or bad; everyone was raised with biases or blind spots that can take lifetimes to undo, if ever. Write what you want, explore what you want, and perhaps do some self-reflection along the way to see what's happening underneath the words.
At the end of the day, sometimes you just want to see two hot blorbos kissing, and cool! Do that! Get your blorbos kissing! Fandom isn't activism, do what you want!
Simultaneously, fandom is a community effort that involves a lot of diverse people, and what we create and share with others can have a real-life impact on others' day to day, or mold their views. Fandom is a part of many of our daily, lived experiences, which means there can be some real-world implications. Think back to the hubbub over the (upcoming?) Harry Potter TV series; the way we talk about it absolutely impacts the way our trans neighbors might feel about their place in the fandom. Thus while I do want to say that fandom isn't activism, fandom is still real life in many ways. It's not ALL our lives, and we shouldn't be morally judging people on slices of online engagement we get, tempting as it may be.
For those like me who write and create for more than pure entertainment (I often ask "what is it that I want to say about the human experience with this piece?"), I do think it's important to reflect on what I'm presenting and why. Not everyone has to do this, though it's helpful in many ways to do so - this is classic metacognition, studying the way we think. It can only help us to think about our own thinking processes. No one is perfect at it, naturally, but it doesn't mean we can't try.
And, when you're feeling down about a fandom issue that frustrates you, help it spur you into action.
*I don't think she intentionally made it misogynist, but her views certainly colored the world she built. Think of how the antagonist women are described as manly, ugly, or heavy-set, like Millicent Bulstrode, Dolores Umbridge, Marge Dursley, Rita Skeeter, etc. These are biases that color the whole world. Barty Crouch Jr doesn't get the same treatment. Nor does Draco Malfoy. Severus Snape is the only one who comes close but he gets a redemption arc.
**This is another way we see JKR's misogyny playing out. The good girls get to be wives and mothers, with a couple exceptions. Women like Dolores, Marge, and Rita have no partners or children that we know of. Women like Minerva and Pomona are given noble teaching professions in lieu of family. Good girls get rewarded with families and noble careers, bad girls don't. JKR being a TERF should come as no surprise, given the way she writes women in such stark terms between the ones who get traditional femininity as a reward and masculine features as a punishment or indictment of their moral value. :(
***One more note re: anon's message. Regulus didn't torture the Longbottoms; he was dead by then.

⸻ 𝐚𝐮 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 ﹕ ( a universe where nepharia’s mother never died in childbirth & raised her instead of her father. in this verse, neph is never sold into slavery, and she never sells her soul to a devil, so she’s strictly a rogue instead of a warlock. i write her in her mid to late twenties in this verse, and she is chaotic neutral instead of chaotic evil. this gives me an easier way to explore nepharia’s softer side. )
belphi is her mother’s name, a wild and rebellious young tiefling woman who ran away from home in her late teens to escape her overbearing family that arranged for her to marry into wealth. belphi didn’t want love without passion and emotion, she didn’t want it for money. she ended up falling in love with an older tiefling man named remus, a man she met at a rough tavern. a man who was just as rebellious and free - spirited as belphi. at the time, belphi was wearing rose - tinted glasses and couldn’t see all of the red flags. their love was chaotic and intense for years, they argued as passionately as they loved. they even got married, but he quickly became abusive, and never stopped drinking ⸻ the drinking only became worse, and in turn so did the abuse. one night after a really explosive and violent argument, belphi left when she was struck in the face by remus. it wasn’t the first time, but it was the first time she actually left. she wasn’t sure where to go, or what to do, remus really made sure that he was the only person of significance in her life. she found herself at a tavern, to drink and distract herself from how miserable she felt. that is the night that an incubus disguised as a tiefling very easily wooed belphi with his devilish charms.
belphi awoke the next morning in an empty bed at an inn, no trace of the devil from the night before. against her better judgement, but with nowhere else to go, she found herself going back to remus, who toxically love bombed her thinking that she actually really left him for good the night before. it didn’t take long for the morning sickness to begin, and she realized she was pregnant. remus actually started to try a little bit harder to better himself, for his child coming into the world.
on the day their daughter, nepharia graylock, was born, remus’ tune started to change. belphi and remus are both crimson toned tieflings, vibrant and red. nepharia, well, she came out gray and pale, nearly colorless. remus suspected that nepharia wasn’t his almost immediately, and though belphi tried to deny it, deep down, she knew it too. she looked just like that pale gray tiefling at the tavern. the abuse picked up where it left off, after that. and with a child to care for now, belphi knew she had to leave for good this time. she didn’t want to raise neph around him.
life was hard for them, a single, mortal mother raising her cambion offspring ( unbeknownst to belphi at the time ), and nepharia was a wild child. belphi, nor any of nepharia’s teachers, could get her to behave in school, she was always being disruptive and chaotic. nepharia was kicked out of so many schools that belphi eventually had to homeschool, which didn’t go any smoother considering belphi had to work two jobs to keep a roof over their head and was always too exhausted to be a school teacher on top of everything ⸻ but she did the best she could. nepharia adored her mother, and belphi adored her daughter, but belphi didn’t realize just how strenuous raising her was about to become, until puberty hit.
things started happening to nepharia that concerned belphi, things would sometimes move on their own, glass would shatter randomly, candles would burn out on their own with no draft or wind ⸻ and it all seemed to happen whenever nepharia was upset or overwhelmed. sometimes the way she talked about how she felt about the boys she had crushes on, seemed abnormal. the way she described the feeling like some kind of intense drug, but nothing yet that raised any true suspicion of something being really wrong.
nepharia was a social butterfly as a young teenager, even being schooled mostly at home. she had no trouble venturing out around town and making friends, she has always been so naturally charismatic. it came with the nature of what she was. and gods, was she boy crazy. unaware of the fact that she’s a literal sex demon, she just assumed everyone felt as good as her when they were around someone they liked, who liked them back. nepharia got her first real boyfriend when she was 16, a boy she snuck into the house late one night while her mother was sleeping. it quickly moved passed kissing, and nepharia was completely consumed by an intense desire to consume, completely losing herself in the rush of the high. before she knew it, the boy beneath her had stopped moving, stopping making any sound at all ⸻ she had unknowingly drained him of his entire soul, his entire life, and she was feeling the intensity of the raw power of it for the very first time. it was the best feeling she’s ever felt, but it was short - lived.
it didn’t take her long after that to realize he was dead, and in her soul - drunk hysteria, she changes forms for the first time. her eyes change, and she sprouts large, leather - skinned wings from her shoulder blades. she goes to her mother immediately, frantic and erratic, her already traumatized emotions heightened from the soul she just accidentally consumed. it takes one took at nepharia for everything to finally click within her mother’s brain ⸻ she had sex with an incubus that night. belphi was in over her head with this one, a dead boy in her daughter’s bed, and her daughter revealed to be a cambion all in the same night. nepharia and her mother had a conversation that night, about what she is, and was assured by her mother that they would learn how to deal with this together, and that she wouldn’t abandon her or turn her away no matter how hard things might get. belphi hid that boy’s body, told nepharia she would take care of it and nothing else, told nepharia not to worry. they sold almost everything they had and uprooted their lives and moved shortly after.
the next few years were tough for nepharia, between the ages of 16 - 23. belphi did everything she could to treat nepharia with respect and love, she didn’t want to lock up her daughter so she wouldn’t go out and accidentally kill people, she knew that wouldn’t help anything. she knew that nepharia was a social creature, and isolating her would only make her more volatile. so the two of them always had open and honest dialogue with one another about anything and everything. there wasn’t anything that nepharia felt like she couldn’t tell her mother. however, nepharia felt very insecure about the devil part of herself, and often wished she could have just been a normal girl. her mother drilled it into her head that it was very important to hide within the form of a tiefling, and not to shift forms in front of others. belphi just wanted her daughter to be safe, and didn’t mean to make those insecurities nepharia had about herself so much worse.
nepharia knew she was dangerous, but she just couldn’t seem to stay away from those cute boys. she tried to be good, she tried to let herself go slower, stick to just kissing, maybe other activities. but that lust would always build, that desire would grow stronger as the kisses and touches deepened, and nepharia would lose herself to that hunger. she would go on to accidentally kill four more lovers in different locations, putting her mother through absolute hell with all of the disposing of bodies and using money they didn’t have to uproot and move all over again. it finally came to nepharia’s attention that her mother was wearing thin, and she’s been pushed to great limits trying to protect and love her. she realized she needed to do better, not just for herself but for her mom. the social butterfly eventually cut herself off from the world, isolating herself more and more so that she wouldn’t be tempted by another cute face and charming smile.
nepharia eventually only left the house to rob rich men blind, learning that she can use her devilish charms and charisma to her advantage. keeping a job was hard for the cambion, she could never follow the structure and etiquette of a normal job, just like with schooling. plus, having a job where she saw the same people every day made it way too easy to accidentally become close to someone again. still, she wanted to help her mom out in any way she could, feeling like a burden on her mother most of the time, even though her mother never intentionally made nepharia feel that way.
right before the events of the game, nepharia is around 25 in this verse and has abstained from sexual activity completely, not even so much as letting herself get close enough to kiss a man in two years. she is incredibly lonely and depressed, she craves love and closeness but is terrified of killing again. she’s also been a pretty sheltered devil spawn for most of her life, and she desperately craves adventure, but has been too afraid to stray too far from her mother because her mother is her only friend anymore, the only person she has to offer guidance and support and without that, nepharia is afraid of what she might do. she was out near baldur’s gate, marking well - dressed men to try and steal from, when she’s abducted by the nautiloid. i will probably just write her like a tav in this verse for the events of the game. she would hide the fact that she’s a devil from the party, and pretend to be a just tiefling. she still doesn’t have very great control of her cambion abilities, so it’s very possible she could accidentally out herself or even the tadpole connection reveals what she really is to the party.
#au verse : softer monster.#i did not mean for this to be a novel but here we are#gonna link this post in my pinned post lol
