*falls through the ceiling* hi sorry if this has been asked before but as you are someone who Gets It, and i am a tired classics + theater double major who gets too insane about characters. i am so curious. have you played hades 2 early access yet and what do you think of odysseus’s characterization in it?

This is going to sound a bit incomprehensible sorry I am very sleepy

But hmmm I'm. I'm kinda 50/50 on it? It's a very interesting route to take, because their characterization of Odysseus is a man very influenced by the past. He constantly references his history, he brings up men he used to fight with in the war, he still jumps at Doom, he still hears the sirens' song. (Which. Is so interesting to me. Because I love the idea that you never get the song out of your head. I just dislike the particular conversation it was in, but I digress) He admires and tends (?) to Melinoë's garden. He meets at the taverna and tells tall tales. He's very human! I really like that about him.

I just,, kind of dislike where they went specifically with his relationship with Penelope and Telemachus? To have broken up off screen, because Penelope found out about his affairs? Honestly also kind of does Penelope a little dirty too, I doubt she would be ignorant if that were the case. Hades 2 is very much about homecoming, which is probably why it's so saturated with references to the odyssey. Odysseus cited his own family when he tells Melinoë to keep hers in mind in order to urge herself forward. But in another conversation, the only thing he can say about Penelope is that they were cordial? It just feels wrong haha.

Though part of me wants to think it's a sort of way to deflect, if that makes sense? The way he speaks is so winding, it almost feels like a shield. I'm not gonna assume until I get the full game I think, but this might just be wishful thinking on my part.

(also the "weaknesses for goddesses" sure is a way to put it! Wow! But again. Shield perchance, or even just because he doesn't have any other way to describe it)

Epic’s Hermes def fits the certain archetype of characters I go insane for. The characters that are charismatic, silly, and mischievous and you instantly gravitate toward them but under the surface they’re actually really powerful and you do NOT wanna fuck around and find out what happens if you piss them off. It’s the BEST kind of character imo and I’ve realized that way too many of my favorite characters fit this mold… It also helps that his songs and the animatics people make to them are absolute masterpieces.

Hermes basically comes and goes to Circe's island randomly at the beginning of the story (they have like a friends with benefits thingy going on). This line happens when he catches Circe scolding a pig and decides to tease her.

A Circe and Shiloh mood board.

4 headcanons I have for them.

After the events of the compound, Shiloh really struggled being stuck on light duty. Circe created small things for her to do, small obstacle courses that wouldn't push her body.

Circe finally met Shiloh's mom and really understood why the two did not get along. Also, why does Shiloh sometimes has a mini heart attack when Circe walks in out of the blue. They look very similar.

Werewolf Shiloh had been shot with wolfsbane from the hermit outside of town. Amelia recognized the giant bear, as Circe called her. Circe was able to assist and calm Shiloh down enough to not murder the hermit.

Shiloh rarely opens up about her emotions. Circe has seen every version of Shiloh before anyone else. The front porch nights with tea and a blanket were some of the most eye-opening for both of them.

2 plot ideas.

Apocalypse Verse - Supply run. Shiloh finds horses for them to use and take with them. Let the girls have some fun. Shiloh really wants to stay at the farm where they found the horses.

Supernatural Verse - Meeting their first creature using the highway to get through the town. Shiloh most likely called Circe in a panic of seeing it in the middle of town.

1 drabble.

Every time they said, 'It's easy work', it was never easy work. The two women figured, quick in, quick out. They were just looking for supplies, after all. It was an old motel, two floors, maybe 12 rooms altogether.

The raider was unexpected. He wasn't insanely tall or muscular. He just got the jump on them. Shiloh had the wind knocked from her lungs from the kick as she tried to get up. Circe was working on keeping his hands off her. Shiloh pushed herself back up. His attention turned towards her, giving Circe enough of a window to slam her fist into his face. Shiloh kicked him in the stomach. Circe, almost right afterward, slammed her elbow into his back.

Both women had the same idea of sweeping his legs out from under him. Which would be a very entertaining conversation later. They both took a leg out. He fell, and Circe finished him off with a gunshot to his head.

Both women standing there, just breathing for a second. "Question," Shiloh looked to Circe. "When have you ever seen a raider by themselves?"
