Wow, as I didn't know unexpectedly, my cousin who lives in the same area as me in Chicago messaged me and shared a photo to me via DM on Instagram that she saw Ben Schwartz (the voice of Sonic in the movies) on the stadium scoreboard video screen at the United Center while watching a Bulls game there.

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.

I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.

One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.

The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?

The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”

I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.

It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.

Oh yes, he'd be a fan (phan?) of the Phantom of the Opera. He would not exactly consider it high art, but I think he would feel a certain connection to any work that offers a sympathetic look at an ugly, rejected, self-proclaimed genius goth with severe social issues and a tendency for violent outbursts.

He would not talk about it because "really enjoys an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical" is not part of the image of sophistication and starched-collar class he wants to portray, but... he would sing the songs. In private. (So he thinks.)

How the last episode went and why this show is gonna destroy me. It's watching Joke go from so brave and trying so hard to so crushed he can't even stay when all he wants is to be at that dining table with Jack... but he can't keep coming to a dining table that doesn't care about him. He can't eat in the shadow of other people's dreams any more. He can't do that to himself again.

It's how Joke finds himself failing everyone he loves and stops trying again, pulling back, giving in to the same hopelessness he knew before but this time even deeper, deeper because his father was never proud of him but for a split second he thought Jack might be.
