Second Place - Regulus One Shot:

I gripped the locket in my hand, staring down at it.

Part of me still didn't know whether or not it was worth it to do this.

But else was I worth?

I knew there was no one who would miss me. I was no one's number one.

James might like me but that's only because he couldn't get Lily. And if she ever showed that she had an inkling of feelings towards him, he would leave me in a second.

Sirius didn't count either. He might be my brother and he might love me a little but he would always choose Remus over me. Hell, he would choose James to because there was no one in the world that loved James the way Sirius did.

I wasn't even Barty or Evan's number one because they were each others. They would never admit it but they were in love and it wasn't with me.

The only person I was close enough for me to think I might be their number one but I knew that even then I wouldn't be their number one. Lily and Evan were more important to them.

So here I was, scrapping for any sort of reason that I shouldn't do this. Some reason that would save my life.

I sat there for another half hour, thinking of every person I had ever talked to, trying to think of a reason that they would care.

But there was no one that did.

So that's when I stood up and headed for my desk, taking out a piece of paper and my quill.

It was time to take advantage of always being in second place.
