Gloria Oladipo at The Guardian:
Donald Trump’s second presidential administration shut down a national database that tracked misconduct by federal police, a resource that policing reform advocates hailed as essential to prevent officers with misconduct records from being able to move undetected between agencies. The National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD), which stored police records documenting misconduct, is now unavailable, the Washington Post first reported. The US justice department also confirmed the database’s elimination in a statement issued online. “User agencies can no longer query or add data to the NLEAD,” the statement read. “The US Department of Justice is decommissioning the NLEAD in accordance with federal standards.”
A weblink that hosted the database is no longer active. The police misconduct database, the first of its kind, was not publicly available. Law enforcement agencies could use the NLEAD to check if an officer applying for a law enforcement position had committed misconduct, such as excessive force. Several experts celebrated the NLEAD when Joe Biden first created it by an executive order issued in 2023, the third year of his presidency. [...] But Trump has since rescinded Biden’s executive order as part of an ongoing effort to slash federal agencies down. Trump himself initially proposed the database after the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020, months before Biden defeated him in the presidential election that November.
Trump Administration shuts down the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD), a vital tool that knowns about police misconduct.

Evidence shows that better training doesn't lead to better officers. It is a persistent myth and narrative that prevents real, necessary reform when it comes to policing and public safety.

Police are now arresting online teachers and musicians who made songs supporting the students protests. It's so absurd that no one has the freedom of speech to support what's right anymore.

We are witnessing a state-created moral panic backlash against calls to defund the police that rivals anything we talk about in similar terms and will have similarly dire consequences for the population. https://www.curbed.com/2023/06/atlanta-cop-city-design-architecture-tactical-village.html

This really sums up how fucked up things are.
The largest police union in the United States publicly endorsed Donald Trump despite his 30+ count conviction. Kamala Harris was a former prosecutor.
They supported a felon over a prosecutor because the felon is a white man, and the prosecutor is a Black woman.
Yesterday, Trump pardoned 1500 January 6th insurrectionists who bludgeoned and stabbed Capitol police. Several officers died from those injuries.
Today, that union distance themselves because of that pardon. It sets a bad precedent to release a thousand people who took pleasure in beating, kicking, stabbing, and killing police.
I've been involved in the Black Lives Matter movement since 2014. White folks accused us of doing that shit. Beating cops & burning cities to the ground.
We. Could. Never.
We didn't storm the Capitol with a hit list to kill politicians. We only asked for police to be held accountable for killing us extrajudiciously.
