So Reddit has a new shitty UI

And I don't mean the old new UI that the people who use old.reddit like to complain about. I mean, a proper, new, twitterfied, shitty UI.

I haven't heard anyone talking about it, which might mean it's being slowrolled out, but it's possible I just missed the announcement and discourse. Or saw it and forgot. It's funny actually: I saw the logo and rebranding on a graphic design blog the day before it went live, but missed the UI redesign entirely.

Here it is:

I've boxed out the subreddits that would narrow down my location, but otherwise this is what it is. Oh, and I suppose the "recent" widget would be open by default as well. The thing about that is, if you drop into any sub, the name goes in the recent list. You drop into a weird sub you don't want people in your house knowing about? Well, you better go visit 4 other subs. There's no way to permanently keep the drawer closed or turn it off.

Below that, you can see all my subreddits and learn a great deal about my interests. It was certainly enlightening for me, having them all thrust into the light of day like that. I had a visceral reaction of disgust seeing some of the old subs I don't really follow anymore. A locus of old interests that seemed important at the time, but trite now. And of course, visiting them puts the sub name in the recents list. Right where you don't want to see it.

The feed defaults to "cards" mode, and seems to revert itself occasionally if you turn it back to "classic". Gone are the days of skimming the post headlines to find the content you want, the endless boredomscroll is here instead, just like every other site. This might be the worst part of it.

You'll also notice the recent posts feed on the right has a few subreddits I don't subscribe to in it. This used to be where you could easily access posts you had visited earlier to check the comments again. Now it exclusively has posts I have not clicked on, meaning it's likely driven by an algorithm trying to determine what I want to look at. Spoilers: I don't want to look at any of those posts, and I'm genuinely embarrassed r/SipsTea is up there. Again, there's no way to turn this off.

The feed itself seems more algorithm sorted than it used to as well. Sorting by best no longer delivers the top post from all your subs, but shuffles around posts at random, weighting subreddits you visit more more heavily. If you click forward and want to come back to a post you saw before, good luck finding it.

I... look, I know we were supposed to jump ship from Reddit. I tried, but some of the communities I'm a part of have been irreplaceable. It's been hard to let go. And yet, I feel like I'm being punished for trying to continue to be a part of them.

I really really hate it.

HIII here's the schedule of this week! Sorry for being late but i had some problems, and now i will return to work! So this week we'll continue Portal 2 Gameplay, Viewfinder AND i will work in making the Cover arts for my future animatics about Epic the Musical :3! so hear me out. Adore N, love that twink, but his fit sucks, so heres some alts.

i get that it was probably meant to help him stay more covert and not obviously team plasma but he kinda sucks at hiding that anyway and i think its plausible and also funnier if he doesnt realize his outfit is weird.

Anyway so the left outfit would be for the first games and the right one is for bw2. bw is mostly just team plasma vibes with color references to the dragons and stuff since at that point everything he knows is shaped by ghetsis. Then in bw2 he rounds out as a person so i added the gray to show him adding more nuance to his worldview and gave him back his mathy geometric motifs to show his interests outside of what ghetsis wanted him to be.

did this picture of windsock in his own overpowered angel form, heavily based off sunset shimmers daydream shimmer form. did this as a part of caliborns joke redemption arc where he gets defeated by all alive kids and trolls, is knocked down to the floor of their battlefield and after getting all the nasty smoke and dirt off his body apologizes to john, crying hysterically. oh god oh man

Another alternate InterNon Flag? You betcha. This one was inspired by this comment I saw regarding my flag design while browsing Reddit:

Like... okay, a bit rude but not wrong. I've been wanting to redesign the InterNon flag for better visibility for a while tbh. I wasn't 100% happy with my first redesign (unfortunately that one has already gotten very popular...) Anyway, I decided to take this stranger's advice. Combined the two tones that are similar and flipped the circle over. I think it looks nice! Though maybe a little empty?

So, just for some extra pizzazz and fun I did another another alternate InterNon flag. This time with this cool InterNon symbol by @isobug!

I like the added flow that having something else in the middle with also inverted colors adds. But what do you all think? Do you guys think this is a step up from the previous redesign(s)? Are there any other changes you'd like me to try?

Cryonax has a lot of potential

A quick unfinished sketch I did of a potential Cryonax Redesign. I tried to keep some of his yeti like aspects, but I wanted to add more ice, make him look spookier, and embrace the weirder aspects of his design. if we're going to give the Elemental Prince of Evil Ice tentacles, let's go more Eldritch with it! You want to know what's cold, space! He extinguishes starts in cannon apparently, let's roll with it. Make him the devourer of stars, that which lurks in the emptiness in the sky, the yawning cold at the bottom of every glacier. He has the potential to be so cool!

I'll probably finish up the sketch soon, but I just wanted to get my thoughts out first.

Reddit became unusable yesterday, which resulted in me sitting down and reading an entire book in one sitting
