the vibe for may 25th is savory waffles and blind boxes. for our second day in GR, we went to a board game shop, where we didn't get any board games, but I did get some fun blind boxes. we have: not keroppi, this mushroom, and ham egg "dreaming." why are there six different hamster 🐹 + egg 🥚 combos? Idk. why are they all so cute? also, of course, we hit a record shop. can't help myself.

Records i've actually actively gone out of my way to buy now and first up, this.

So if you know me at all, you know i like Nia Archives and old school jungle especially. Her blend of frantic old 90s ragga breakbeat are loads of fun. And i really just bought this for Baianá which is more Brazilian in sound, but impossible to not start bouncing about to. But then the other tracks come in and as much as So Tell Me and Conveniency both grew on me after a few times hearing them on the radio, they are starting to veer a little towards a bit more of a poppy sound.

And yeah, i get it, she's getting traction under her career, she might be being pushed into a more marketable sound, or she might just be making tunes that she likes for herself and either way, i can dig it. I wouldn't begrudge her for making music that isn't possibly as good as her first EP, just because it's a bit slower, calmer, and less mental. But yeah, wasn't really feeling it as much for the rest of the album.

The last track kicks off a bit but then just ends as it's getting good. Which was a bit disappointing and kind of sums up the whole EP to be honest. Moments of fucking greatness but just a little underwhelming.
