Ryan: Would that break your brain? Would you kind of be like, I spent six well-documented years being so far in the opposition of what actually is true?
Shane: Yeah… but I had a good time.

Chapter Nine
Following your eventful night out, you decided to call in sick not long after Billy had slipped out of your apartment. Sam wasn’t happy at the short notice, but when you told him it was a night off sick or risking puking on his customers he, thankfully, saw the light.
You spent most of the day in bed after eating the breakfast that Billy had made you but, eventually, managed to force yourself to shower and brush your teeth.
The whole ordeal had left you shaken up and the more time you had to think about it, the worse you felt.
Throughout the day, you had moments, flashes, where you almost felt like you could remember pieces of the night before; Billy smiling softly, holding you, stroking your hair, kissing the tip of your nose. Or maybe it had all just been part of some strange dream. Regardless, every time you thought that you half-remembered something, you felt a warmth bloom in your stomach.
Billy had been so kind, so sweet, and it made you think of the tender way he’d kissed you, the way he’d told you that he could be gentle if that was what you wanted. Honestly, after everything that had happened, you weren’t sure what you wanted anymore.
Around midnight, you got a text from Jenna telling you that she was going to be stopping round to see you once she finished her shift. Not asking if she could, telling you that she was. You replied and told her that you were fine, that she didn’t have to, but Jenna didn’t reply.
And when Jenna didn’t reply to a text that always meant she was annoyed about something.
She arrived around two-thirty in the morning, knocking lightly on the door. You opened it for her and stepped aside to let Jenna into your apartment, eyeing the pizza box in her hand.
“You look like shit,” she said as you closed the door behind her.
“I’m fine. I think it’s just food poisoning.”
“Food poisoning? Seriously?” Jenna asked, sounding like she knew it was bullshit. She barely even looked at you as she headed for the kitchen to put the pizza box down. “Are you really gonna stand there and lie to my face like that?”
Your heart skipped several beats, not knowing what Jenna knew or how angry she was at you.
“I don’t -”
“Billy told me what happened.”
“He what?” It was your turn to sound annoyed. “He had no right to -”
“What? Tell me that my best friend was drugged and almost assaulted by some creep?” Jenna snapped. “What the fuck is wrong with you? In what world do I not need to know about something like that?”
“Almost,” you said as if the distinction really meant anything. “It almost happened but it didn’t, so I didn’t think it was worth worrying you.”
“You didn’t think -” Jenna cut herself off with a frustrated sigh. “Have you got any idea how bad it could have been if Billy hadn’t gotten to you in time?”
You fixed her with a stare, your mouth moving before your brain had a chance to catch up. “Yes, Jenna, I know exactly how bad it could have gotten.”
Then came the awful and awkward silence, the unspoken revelation hanging in the air between you. Jenna didn’t say anything which, at any other time, you might have considered a minor miracle but, at that exact moment, her silence made you feel sick.
You turned away from her, shuffling towards the kitchen to put some coffee on. And, fortunately, Jenna didn’t dare ask the obvious question.
“Since when are you and Billy so close, anyway?” You asked, barely containing your anger.
“Why? Jealous?”
The comment was a return to form, a playful bit of banter meant to diffuse the sudden tension. You knew what it was, but you chose to ignore it. You were angry, you felt betrayed by Billy and you hated being put in a position where you had to keep lying to your closest friend.
“Hardly,” you said flatly, keeping your back to her. “You can have him if you want him.”
“I’ll never understand you.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” You asked, finally turning back to face her.
“He saved you from being assaulted at Sam’s, he rescued you after some prick spiked your drink and then he spent all night with you making sure you didn’t choke on your own vomit, and all you do is treat him like shit,” Jenna answered.
“I’m not interested in someone who helps me because he wants to get into my pants. What - am I supposed to treat it like a transaction? He saves me so I at least owe him a blowjob?”
“If you think it’s transactional for Billy, then you need to pay more attention,” she answered back, never being the sort to let you have the last word. “I don’t know what happened between you, but it clearly meant something to him.”
You set your jaw, some part of you desperate to tell her the truth about Billy and about what he’d put you through but you found that you couldn’t. Telling her now would only make things worse. For you and for Billy. And, despite what you’d just told her about only seeing any of Billy’s gestures as transactional, you felt he deserved a little consideration.
Besides that, from what little you could remember, you were sure that you’d seen yet another side to him last night and that morning, and part of you was still so curious about the mysterious man.
Jenna let out a sigh.
“Why did you call him?” She asked.
“What?” It took you a moment to realise that she meant Billy last night. “I - I don’t know. I don’t remember.”
Of course, you could hazard a guess. Thinking back to that night at Sam’s all those weeks ago, to the way Billy had dealt with the drunk who’d grabbed you - yeah, you could imagine wanting him to do that to the prick who spiked your drink.
“Does it really matter?” You asked a few seconds later.
“I don’t know, you tell me,” Jenna shrugged. “You’re telling me you don’t care about him, but you called him instead of your best friend when you needed help. I just want to know what you were thinking.”
“I was probably thinking wow this situation is dangerous, I don’t want to drag my best friend into it.”
“You think that would have stopped me?” She sounded genuinely hurt.
“No, Jenna, I know it wouldn’t have, but I don’t ever want you getting hurt because of me.”
“That’s not your choice to make.”
“Fine,” you answered back, exasperated. “Next time someone spikes my drink, I’ll call you. Happy?”
There was a moment of silence then a snort of laughter erupted from Jenna. The sound and the sheer stupidity for what you just said soon had you laughing too.
“That’s terrible,” Jenna said through her laughter. “Don’t say things like that.”
The pair of you continued to laugh for a moment before your attention returned to the pizza box, the smell of hot cheese permeating your small apartment.
“Are you done being angry with me? Can we eat the pizza now?” You asked.
“We can eat the pizza but I haven’t decided if I’m done being angry with you.”
The pair of you sat at the small table in your kitchen, eating pizza and drinking coffee, while Jenna filled you in on what you’d missed at the bar that night - which, as it turned out, was not an awful lot. She brought Billy up a couple more times, telling you how his crew had been in but, again, Jake was noticeably absent.
An hour and one pizza later, you offered to let Jenna stay the night and both ended up crowded into your bed like you had done countless times before.
Jenna let out a sigh, relaxing and closing her eyes.
“Why does your bed smell like man?” She grumbled.
“Billy,” you muttered, too tired to give her anything more than that.
“He smells nice.”
“Yeah, he does...”
You both ended up giggling again before falling silent.
“I’m sorry I was angry at you,” Jenna said softly. “I just worry about you. You always keep so much to yourself all the time. That’s why I hoped that something was going on with you and Billy, so you could finally have someone you could be completely open with.”
Your heart ached at your friend's words. Over the last year you’d lied, told half-truths and flat out dodged so many questions, but you’d always assumed that you were getting away with it because she never called you out on it. All this time, she’d just been letting you hide behind your bullshit.
“It’s not that I don’t trust you -” you tried to explain.
“It’s fine, I get it,” said before trailing off into a yawn. “All I’m saying is that you’ve got people who want to care about you if you ever decide to let us in.”
You didn’t respond. Instead you shut your eyes tight and feigned sleep.
The next morning you woke up feeling much better and you were glad Jenna didn’t seem interested in carrying on the conversation from the night before. Clearly she’d said all she wanted to say and was leaving it up to you to decide whether or not you wanted to actually listen.
Jenna stayed for a coffee before leaving and seemed glad to hear that you’d be returning to work that night, even though both of you knew that you didn’t really have much of a choice in the matter; while Sam had been nice enough to give you one night off, you were pretty sure he wouldn’t have been happy with two in a row.
As you moved about your apartment, deciding to change your bedding and bundle it up ready to take to the laundromat the next time you went, you had that odd feeling like you were being watched and found yourself looking out of your window, wondering if Billy was out there. You couldn’t see him anywhere but you spent a few minutes staring out, searching for him.
The thought of him watching you should have creeped you out but, instead, you found yourself thinking about how alone you’d feel if you ever stopped feeling like he was out there.
(Maybe Jenna was right, maybe you did need someone else in your life, if only so you weren’t longing staring out the window, wondering if your stalker was watching.)
But, as it turned out, those kinds of thoughts only applied when Billy wasn’t directly in front of you.
He was there, sitting at the bar when you arrived at Sam’s that evening. Before you’d walked in, you’d told yourself that you’d be able to handle it if he happened to turn up, but you weren’t expecting to see him already sitting there, a drink in front of him as he spoke to Jenna.
She smiled at you but the moment his head lifted and he turned your way, you felt nothing but irritation.
What had he been talking to Jenna about? You? What else had he told her that you didn’t want her to know?
While you’d sorted things out with Jenna, you were still upset that Billy had told her; he’d almost managed to win your trust that night, only to then piss it away the next. You weren’t even sure why it annoyed you so much, but it did.
You greeted Jenna on your way to get rid of your coat and purse, but completely ignored Billy until you reemerged from the back room and he dared to speak to you.
“So we’re back to the silent treatment again?” He asked, not seeming to care that Jenna was right beside you.
“Yeah, we are,” you answered back before turning your attention to Jenna. “I’ll sort the bottles for recycling.”
She wasn’t given time to so much as nod before you headed out to the back alley, needing to put some space between you and Billy before you said or did something stupid. But Billy didn’t want to give you space, he didn’t want to be ignored. And, before the back door could fall shut behind you, he was there.
“Are you gonna at least tell me what I did this time?” He asked.
You ignored him, focusing on the crates of empty bottles and starting to sort them into groups. You didn’t even look at him until you felt a hand on your wrist. Then you turned to face him, forcing out a heavy sigh, as you pulled away from his grasp.
“Fine. You want to know why I’m pissed at you, Billy? You told my best friend that I was almost assaulted and that I called you for help instead of her,” you snapped. “You made Jenna worry and you made me look like I can’t even look after myself. All you do - all you’ve done since you first showed up - is make my life harder and I’m sick of it.”
Turning, you got back to work, separating the bottles and throwing them into the correct bins.
You expected Billy to either make some blase response or slink back inside to try again later, but he did neither. He just stood there, seemingly dumbfounded for almost a minute.
“I was worried about you,” he finally said, his voice soft and full of something you didn’t want to put a name to.
You didn’t respond straight away, waiting to see if he’d explain himself, but he didn’t.
“What?” You finally prompted, turning back to him again.
“I was worried,” he repeated, sounding almost irritated at the fact. “I know that doesn’t mean anything to you but - but when I think about what could have happened to you...” there was no missing the visceral flicker of discomfort on his face. “When I think about it, I can’t breathe. I might not mean anything to you, but I think I’ve made it clear enough that you mean something to me.”
As he spoke, you could feel your heart hammering away in your chest. There was anger on his face and in his voice and part of you felt like you deserved it.
“I told Jenna because I didn’t want you to be on your own,” he continued. “I didn’t want to tell her, but I knew you’d be just as pissed if I turned up at your door. I thought you’d at least let Jenna in.”
His words and the thought behind them hit you like a ton of bricks; he’d sent Jenna because he didn’t want you to be alone, he’d been trying to look out for you.
“I don’t want you to worry about me, Billy. I don’t need you to,” you answered back.
“You think I want to? You think I want to feel like this? For things to be like this between us?” He asked, his tone turning sharper still. “I know I’ve fucked up, but you - all you’ve done is treat me like a mistake you want to forget. Worse than that, you act like I don’t even exist, that what I feel isn’t real.”
It was surprising how much his words hurt, how they managed to cut you right down to the bone because, in a way, he was right. He’d done some shitty things, concerning things, but you had basically kicked him out of your bed and started giving him the cold shoulder long before any of that. Instead of just talking to him, telling him that it had been a one night thing, you had tried to avoid him, ignore him.
And he hadn’t deserved it.
At least, not then.
What he deserved now was entirely up for debate, but you had to wonder how much of this would have happened if you’d just taken a minute to actually talk to him and tell him that it couldn’t be more than just one night. And, now, for reasons you didn’t understand, it seemed like you’d genuinely managed to hurt him.
You stayed silent, not sure what to make of any of it.
“Seriously?” He huffed after a minute of staring at you, waiting for you to say something. “You’re just gonna ignore me?”
“That’s not -” you paused, biting back the urge to snap at him, “- I don’t know what you want me to say.”
“How about the truth?”
Your gaze dropped and you let out a sigh.
“No, that’s right, you don’t like being honest, do you?”
“No, Billy, I don’t,” you admitted. “Look, I - I’m sorry. I’m sorry that you were worried, and I’m sorry I called you the other night when -”
“Don’t,” he interrupted. “Don’t you dare apologise for calling me when you needed help.”
“Fine. But that doesn’t change the fact that I can’t give you what you want.”
“You think that’s why I did it? You think I came to rescue you because I thought I’d get something from it?”
You couldn’t tell if he was concerned, irritated, confused, or just disappointed.
“Then why did you?” You dared to ask.
“Because I wouldn’t let... that happen to anyone. But the thought of someone doing that to you, it...” he took a ragged breath. “I know what it’s like to have someone try to take away your control like that.”
Then he gave one of those awkward and uncomfortable shrugs, rolling his shoulder, reminding you of the scar you’d seen there weeks ago. Suddenly the implication of his words left you feeling sick.
“Someone... hurt you...” you spoke the thought aloud, your voice softening.
It didn’t change anything that he’d done to you, just like finding out about his injuries hadn’t excused his behaviour, but it did offer reasons. And, as someone who’d been hurt before, you felt nothing but a welling up of sympathy for him.
Billy shook his head as you looked at him.
“I don’t need your pity,” he said softly.
“It’s not pity, it’s just... I’m sorry.”
He dared to take a step forward, his hand cautiously reaching for your cheek. You didn’t shy away.
“You shouldn’t be sorry. I’m sorry, I keep trying to show you how I feel, and I keep fucking it up.”
You let out a sigh and dared to lean into his touch, again half-remembering tender moments that you weren’t even sure really happened, along with the tender moments that had happened. And, again, you found yourself caught up wondering what your life would be like if he suddenly wasn’t in it anymore.
“I - I wish it was as easy as just giving in to you,” you confessed, your voice betraying your exhaustion.
“Why isn’t it?” He asked and you didn’t respond. “Whatever it is you’re running from, whatever hurt you in your past, it won’t change how I feel about you.”
Your head shook. “It’s just easier like this.”
“I don’t want easy, I want you,” Billy told you.
Your heart ached at his words.
The next thing you knew, he was closing the distance between you, framing your face with his hands, about to kiss you when you felt the rough scrape of bandaging against your cheek.
You pulled back, looking at his hand. Or, rather, the filthy scrap of fabric that was serving as a bandage. It was awkwardly wrapped around his hand and, from looking at it, you couldn’t tell if it had even been clean before he’d put it on. Gripping his wrist, you turned his hand over and felt a strange sense of irritation fill you when you noticed there was blood soaking through.
“What is this?” You asked, hating that you were suddenly concerned.
How did he always manage to do that to you; have you feeling so many different emotions in quick succession? In the space of a five minute conversation you’d gone from anger to shame to sympathy to - whatever it was you’d been feeling only seconds ago. And, then, you went straight back to anger.
This was why you couldn’t be with a guy like Billy. This was why you didn’t date the customers. Whatever he was into, it was dangerous and it was liable to get him killed. And, for all his many faults, you didn’t want anything to happen to him. You didn’t want to open yourself to the thought of actually caring about him, only to lose him.
“It’s nothing,” he told you, leaning in again, wanting the kiss that you’d denied him.
“It’s not nothing,” you said, frustrated by his indifference. “Do you really expect me to just stand here while you paw at me with a bloody hand?”
“I wasn’t -”
You pulled away from him and started to move towards the door.
“Come with me.”
“Why, kitten, are -”
“Now, Billy.”
All you had to do was turn and glare to get him to follow you as you headed back inside. Rather than leading Billy back out towards the bar you showed him into the back room, instructing him to sit at the table while you went to find the first aid kit. He sat in silence, looking like a frightened school boy about to get detention.
It was a small room with a little more than a table, a couple of chairs and a small kitchenette, with nothing of any importance save for the industrial dishwasher for all the bar’s glasses and, for the most part, it was just used as a break room and a place to leave coats.
Moments later you sat opposite him, holding out your hand expectantly until he let you look at his injuries. Slowly, tenderly, you unwrapped his hand, and inhaled sharply at the mess of bloody and broken skin. It looked as if he’d tried to break down a brick wall with his bare hand.
“Jesus, Billy.”
“You should see the other guy,” he offered with a weak smile.
“Did you even clean this?” You asked, ignoring his comment, not wanting to think about what he must have been doing to cause so much damage to his hand. When he didn’t answer, you sighed. “You realise this could get infected, right?”
“I’ve survived worse.”
“Really?” You snapped, unamused. “I’ve seen your scars, Billy. I’m pretty sure none of those injuries were left to fester.”
“It’s not - fuck!”
You cut him off by pressing an alcohol wipe to his split and bleeding knuckles, and set him with an unamused look as he winced and tried to pull his hand from your grasp.
“You were saying?” You joked. His silence would have filled you with a smug satisfaction if it hadn’t been for the way his face seemed to suddenly pale. “Why did you leave it like this?”
“I don’t -” he sighed, flinching again as you dabbed his split skin with the wipe. “- I don’t know. I guess I’m mostly used to pain now and it was easier to just wrap it up and not think about it.”
“You’re an idiot.”
“I don’t think that’s news to either of us, kitten” he said.
It was a joke, but there was something delicate in his tone, something you didn’t want to risk breaking with a laugh. Instead, you focused on his hand, going through five alcohol wipes before you were happy that his wounds were finally clean. You lightly pressed some gauze over his knuckles before bandaging his hand. And, once it was wrapped, you found yourself holding onto him, looking him in the eye for a moment before slowly pulling away.
You got to your feet and Billy did the same.
“Now, can we finish what we started outside?” He asked, his voice soft but still somehow managing to shatter the air of calm you’d managed to cultivate around yourself.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you said, packing away the first aid kit.
He reached out as he closed the distance between you, his good hand finding your shoulder and turning you to face him. Before you could stop to think about what was happening, his lips were on yours and his tongue was licking into your mouth. Your hands rose to fund his chest but, instead of pushing him away you found yourself gripping the fabric of his shirt to pull him closer.
For a few wonderful minutes you managed to lose yourself to him, forgetting your irritation and all the reasons you knew that you couldn’t lead him on. But, when a particularly loud laugh filtered in from the bar, you finally managed to draw back
“Billy -”
“Don’t,” he said softly, practically pleading, not drawing back or giving you any space.
You turned away from him, but Billy refused to take the hint, stepping closer still, until you found yourself braced against the table. One hand gripped your hip while his bandaged hand pressed against your stomach, pulling you back so you could feel the way his cock was already straining in his pants. Your breath caught as he pressed his lips to your neck, trailing warm, wet kisses over your skin.
“I’m not gonna fuck you,” you told him, trying desperately to keep your voice from hitching.
Billy didn’t answer, save for a grumble in the back of his throat.
The hand on your hip moved and you weren’t sure what he was doing until you felt him lift your skirt up at the back. Before you could object, he pressed closer to you, forcing you to bend over the table.
You knew that you could pull away any time you wanted to, but you didn’t. You didn’t move, didn’t try to stop him. Not even when you heard him unzip his pants and felt him guide his cock into your panties, the length of him trailing through your arousal. All you did was squeeze your thighs together when you felt the tip of his cock nudge your entrance.
“I told you -”
“Fine. I won’t fuck you,” he told you.
Biting down on your lip, you barely held back a moan as he moved again, grinding the length of his cock through your folds. Every time he moved, you felt the ridge of his cock rub up against your clit, and your cheeks started to heat as you felt your body start to react to him, your core growing hot and wet for him.
“You’re getting awfully wet for someone who doesn’t want to fuck, kitten,” he muttered, leaning over you so his lips were against your ear.
“Shut up,” you groaned, your back pressing against his chest.
“Is that shut up and stop, or…” he said, stilling for a second.
“It’s just shut up.”
Your fingers splayed as your hands pressed against the table, bracing yourself against his movements as they started up again. After a few moments, his bandaged hand moved up your body, stopping briefly to palm your breast through your tank top before ending up on your throat.
He didn’t squeeze - he didn’t have to, his bandaged hand on your throat was enough to signal that he was in control.
Your thighs squeezed tighter around his cock and you leaned a little more so the length of his cock rubbed against your clit with every move of his hips. It wasn’t long before you were moving with him, pressing back against him, seeking more friction. It felt like your clit was throbbing, desperate for more, for anything and everything he wanted to give you.
You bit down harder on your lip. Trying to hold back the sounds that wanted to escape you, not wanting a whole bar full of people to overhear you. After a few moments, his bandaged hand gave a testing squeeze against your throat, and his hips started to pick up the pace.
His good hand slipped beneath your top, gripping your breast and tugging your stiff nipple between his fingers, while his lips latched to your shoulder, kissing and sucking marks into your skin, branding you, claiming you. And you were letting him. Despite everything telling you that this was a stupid idea, it felt too good to stop.
The hand on your throat squeezed tighter, not enough to choke but enough to make you feel as though you were completely at his mercy, letting out little gasps every time you drew breath. You knew that you shouldn’t be letting it happen, that you shouldn’t want it, but you did
You came moments before he did, trembling so much that you didn’t notice that he was coming in your panties until you heard him let out a grunt. You cringed as he pulled back and you felt wet fabric cling to your skin and cum run down your thighs.
His hand dipped under your skirt, pressing the wet lace against your trembling skin, rubbing his cum into your folds through the soaked fabric.
“You’re disgusting,” you groaned, knocking away his hand and turning back towards him as he finally pulled away.
“You enjoyed it, so what does that make you, kitten?” He asked with that smug grin on his face as he tucked his cock back into his pants.
“Are you gonna enjoy knowing that I’m spending the rest of my shift without panties?” You asked and watched his gaze darken instantly.
“You’re keeping those panties on,” he told you in a certain tone, not finding any humour in your comment.
“Or what?”
“Or at closing time I’m gonna bend you over the bar and spank you so hard you won’t be able to walk home,” he threatened, the controlling and dominant side of Billy quickly taking over. “I’ll be checking at the end of your shift.”
The sudden shift in him had you squirming and taking a step back. And Billy noticed. You watched as he shook his head, trying to force away the part of himself that unsettled you, that scared you.
“Just... just don’t take them off, okay?” He finally said. The words came out awkward and stilted, like the very idea of you removing your panties and going back to work rattled something deep inside of him.
“I can’t just -”
“Okay, listen I don’t want to break up whatever you two are doing but -” Jenna said, her eyes fixed on the ceiling as she pushed open the door as if she didn’t want to see anything she might regret, “- it’s getting real fucking busy out there and I need some help.”
An awkward laugh spilled out of you at the utter ridiculousness of everything that was happening and how, if she’d come looking for you only a minute earlier, she would have caught you in a very compromising position.
“Get your mind out of the gutter,” you said, “I was just bandaging Billy’s hand for him.”
“She’s a pretty decent nurse,” Billy confirmed.
“Well, I don’t need a nurse, I need a bartender,” Jenna said.
That got you moving, ignoring the look that Jenna shot you as Billy left and headed back out to the bar.
“Just bandaging his hand?” She muttered with a sly smile.
You rolled your eyes, trying to ignore the way your wet panties stuck to you as you walked past her. Jenna struggled to bite back a laugh and you felt your cheeks heat.
The bar was getting busy and it was almost enough to take your mind off of everything that had happened. Almost. But, with Billy there, it was impossible.
You caught the smirk on his lips as you walked by, unable to hide your discomfort as the wet fabric clung to you. But with the shame and discomfort came something else, another feeling, something you didn’t want to admit to. Arousal. And, just like that, Billy had you feeling conflicted again, knowing you should be disgusted but finding that you couldn’t.
About forty minutes before last call, Billy’s whole crew started heading for the door, like they suddenly had somewhere to bed despite it being the middle of the night. Before Billy left, he caught you by the arm and turned you towards him.
“Call me when you get home,” he told you. An instruction, not a question.
“Uh-huh, yeah, I’ll be sure to do that,” you answered sarcastically, as you tried to pull away from him.
Billy’s grip tightened, not letting you walk away.
“I mean it,” he said, watching you rolling your eyes. “You can either call me or I can stop by your apartment again.”
The threat was allowed to hang in the air between you. Part of you wanted to act defiant, to tell him no, but you knew well enough that he wasn’t joking and, after everything that had happened, you didn’t want him showing up at your apartment.
“Fine,” you relented.
“And I want proof that you still have those panties on at the end of your shift,” he said, keeping his voice low but firm, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Fine,” you repeated, just wanting him to walk away.
Without warning, he leaned in, pressing his lips to your cheek. Then he was gone.
End Note : I think this chapter speaks for itself 😅. Place your bets on how Billy hurt his hand (as if we don't already know)
As always your comments/likes/reblogs/asks/general screaming is always cherished and appreciated. I hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Nobody to Somebody
Summary: You started in Riley’s newborn army and now you’re moving up to Volterra, Italy.
Warnings: violence, hints of possessiveness, fluff,
Reader: Female Reader
Pairings: Felix, Demetri, Jane, Alec Volturi x Female Reader
Word Count: 3,114
A/n: Might make more parts to this, idk. Also, I know that Alec and Jane are supposed to be really young but I imagine them as older teenagers. Also, Alec and Jane are not mates. The guard are not mated together they just share you, the reader, as a mate. So, no incest.
Masterlist
You were a nobody. Honestly, you had nothing to do with the drama of the supernatural world yet you were still pulled into it. You were innocently driving through Seattle to Mount Vermont when you were killed.
Riley had dragged you out of the motel parking lot and bit you in the neck. The pain is indescribable. You screamed so loud yet nobody came to your aid. When the torment stopped a different pain started. A hunger that could only be satisfied with the blood of humans.
You turned into a completely different person within a span of a couple hours. You were stronger, faster, and deadlier. You were put into a group of others like you. It was a constant battle for survival. Everyone fought for their food. Everyone fought to be higher on the pecking order. Everyone fought you.
You were at the top, just below Riley. You weren’t in charge of anything but you certainly were the strongest. Those with the balls to go up against you found themselves dismembered before they could touch a hair on your head.
You were one of the few that were gifted. You had the ability to control people. You couldn’t control their thoughts. No, you controlled their bodies. You could force anybody to do anything and they couldn’t fight against it. At least you haven’t found someone who could fight against it.
You could make them rip off their own arms, bite off their own tongue, set themselves on fire and burn to death. You could force two or more of them to fight themselves if you so pleased. Your ability to control made you valuable. Riley did everything in his power to keep you.
You loved the power you had over everybody. You loved the pampering Riley gave you. You were arrogant but not quite ambitious yet. You were satisfied with the way things were, for the moment. You didn’t think about the future, you didn’t think about expanding your power. You just lived in the moment.
You were also the only one who met Victoria. She had a special plan for you. She whispered promises of grandeur that you couldn’t deny.
No longer were you the family girl that was content with a normal life. No longer were you the girl who was satisfied with being in the background. No longer were you the girl who wouldn’t harm a fly.
No, now you were the girl who killed anybody who got in the way of what you wanted. You were the girl with power and riches. As far as you were concerned, you were on top of the world. You could take anything you wanted and as the months passed, your ambition grew. You were beginning to want more.
However, you felt obligated to help your creators with their Cullen problem. You vowed to help them. Once they were taken care of you would move on to grander things.
When the time to attack the Cullens came, Victoria kept you by her side. You knew she had a vendetta against someone specifically and you were chomping at the bits to tear someone apart.
“They’re not here,” Victoria growls loudly. You growl as well wanting to join the fight but loyally stayed by her side.
“Where could they be?” You ask her. Victoria huffs racing through the woods. You pursed your lips but quickly followed after her. Riley joined up with the two of your as you made your way into the mountains.
Riley steps into view of the Cullen and human first. You observe them from the cover of the trees. The Cullen stood protectively in front of the human. She shared the same scent that had lead the other newborns into the clearing. Had all of this fighting been over this human?
“Riley... Listen to me. Victoria is just using you to distract me. She knows I’ll kill you. In fact, she’ll be glad she didn’t have to deal with you anymore.”
“Don’t listen, Riley,” Victoria pleads standing on a rock to the side of Riley. You slowly make an appearce behind your creator. The Cullen’s eye moves to you as does the humans. “I told you about their mind tricks.”
“I can read her mind. So, I know what she thinks of you.” He tells Riley.
“He’s lying.” Victoria insists.
“She only created you and this army to avenger her true mate, James.” Your eyes go to Victoria. “That’s the only thing she cares about. Not you.”
“There’s only you. You know that.” Victoria vows him but you can tell that she’s lying. You smirk enjoying the show unraveling before you.
“Think about it. You’re from Forks, you know the area. That’s the only reason she chose you. She doesn’t love you.”
“Riley, don’t let him do this to us. You know I love you.” Victoria promises. You watch Riley curiously. You could sense the doubt in him but then he goes to attack. You flinch and move away when a wolf comes and chomps on Riley. Your eyes scan the area for more wolves not wanting to fall victim to one of them.
“You won’t get a chance like this again!” Your head turns back to the Cullen and Victoria. He continues to taunt her while you turn your focus to the human. You take a few slow steps toward her until her eyes catch yours. Your gaze hardens as you try to control her. Your intrigued when you find her just standing there when she should be choking herself.
You step back into the tree when the human moves with her vampire. You wanted a good fight but you also wanted to observe. Everything made sense now. Victoria wanted revenge for the death of her mate while the vampire tries to protect his. I guess even as a deadly vampire you’re still a romantic. You weren’t quite sure who you wanted to win.
Riley came back into view, you briefly wonder about the wolf. He and Victoria gain the upper hand until the human cuts herself with a rock. Your eyes instantly go black and all you can think about is the blood. Before you know it you’re running for her but her mate grabs you and throws you into the woods.
By the time you return you gain control of yourself. You had been working hard on control when you found out you were stronger and more dangerous with a clear head instead of being controlled by animal instincts.
“Victoria!! Victoria!” Riley screams, breaking your concentration. You felt bad for Riley and took a few steps toward him before you stopped yourself.
Riley and Victoria knew you wanted to branch out on your own but that didn’t mean they would let you go without a fight. You knew how valuable you were to them. Nobody gives up their strongest player.
You didn’t want to be the one to kill him, you still felt the slightest connection to him for turning you. However, while the connection makes you not want to kill him it doesn’t necessarily compel you to save him.
You smirk, stepping back from the scene. You would let the wolf take care of your problem. You hoped that the other vampire would take care of Victoria as well. Then, you’d be free and could do whatever you wanted.
You look away from Riley and back toward Victoria. You were pleased to see her losing the fight. Only when you stopped hearing Riley’s screams and saw Victoria’s head on the ground did you turn to leave the scene.
“Wait!” The Cullen calls after you. You turn your head ever so slightly.
“I have nothing against you and your family. I won’t cause any trouble.” You promise him.
“I know,” He nods, stepping closer but keeping his body between you and his mate. You smirk slightly knowing he could stop you from getting to her if you truly wanted too. “I can help you.”
“You help me?” You tilt your head. “Oh? How so?”
“You want power, you want to be at the top. Have you heard of the Volturi?” He asks.
“No.” You answer, your eyes narrowing.
“They’re vampire royalty. They’ll be at the clearing to assess the damage. You can leave with them, join their coven.” He tells you. You stare at him.
“And what do you get out of this?” You wonder.
“Time.” He says, turning his head toward his human mate.
“I’ll stick around, doesn’t mean I’ll go with them.” You say before leaving them on the mountain. You find the clearing and unsurprisingly see all the newborns dead.
“Wait! Don’t hurt her!” A woman with short hair shouts when you walk out of the forest. You eye the wolves and the Cullens cautiously. “The Volturi will be here shortly.” You slowly nod. Eventually The two from the mountain join you. You watch as a stray newborn almost kills a wolf before the drama seems to end.
The Cullen clan stand together. You notice Bree standing behind them. She had been in the army. She was one of the lower vampires, a vampire that didn’t do much. You’re slightly surprised that she survived.
You don’t have much time to dwell on Bree when something catches your attention. Four distinct yet mouthwatering scents. Scents that tempt you more than any amount of fresh blood. You can just feel your eyes darkening even more.
Four figures in cloaks enter the clearing. The two in the middle wear midnight black ones while the outside two sport charcoal grey robes. They lower their hoods and their ruby red eyes fall on you at the same time.
Your instinct is to move to stand by them, your body even shifts toward them but you’re hesitant. You don’t know how to act. You don’t know what to do. Logic tells you that your scent appeals to them as theirs does to you but you hesitate nonetheless.
Seeing the conflict in your eyes, the furthest from you, the shorter of the two in the grey cloaks, holds his hand out in your direction. There’s a sly yet inviting smirk on his face. Your body reacts before your mind. You rush in front of him, your hand instinctively falling into his gloved one. He yanks you into his chest, his arm snaking around your waist.
Both of your heads fall into each others neck. You both breathe in each others scent but he’s the only one brave enough to place a gentle kiss on your marble skin.
“Impressive,” A melodic voice reaches your ears. You pull from his neck to look at her. He refuse to release you forcing you to shuffle around in his arms.
When you’re settled, his grip tightens forcing you impossibly close. With your back pressed against his chest, you watch the exchange between the Cullens the the cloaked vampires you assume to be the Volturi. Any anxiety that may have been present disappears the longer you’re in his arms.
“I’ve never seen a coven escape an assault of this magnitude intact.”
“We were lucky.”
“I doubt that.”
“It appears we missed an entertaining fight.” Your eyes shift from the blond girl to the one beside her. You wanted to be closer to them but you didn’t want to leave his arms. You didn’t understand and the unknown was frustrating you.
“Shh,” He whispers in your ear as he senses your growing distress. “Just a little longer.” He promises bumping his nose against the side of her head.
“It’s not often we’re rendered unnecessary,” She mentions.
“Had you arrived a half an hour ago you would have fulfilled your purpose.” You glared at him as he spoke to her rudely. Before another work could be exchanged you broke his arm without lifting a finger. He tries to hold in his groan but everyone picks up on it. Naturally, everyone looks to the blond on your side of the field but you just stand there with a satisfied smirk.
“You missed one,” The attention turns to Bree.
“We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender.”
“That wasn’t yours to offer,” She tells him. “Why did you come?” She asks but Bree doesn’t answer. Your eyebrows instantly raise when the newborn falls to the ground screaming. You look to the blond beside you and realize why the all mistook the vampires pain to be her doing instead of you. “Who created you?”
“You don’t need to do that, she’ll tell you anything you want to know.”
“I know,”
“I-I don’t know,” Bree whimpers. “Riley wouldn’t tell us. He said that our thoughts weren’t safe.”
“Her name was Victoria, perhaps you knew her.”
“Edward, had the Volturi had knowledge of Viktoria they would have stopped her. Isn’t that right Jane?”
Jane. A name so simple yet so perfect for the beautiful blond. You found yourself desperate to know more about her. To know more about all of them.
“Of course,” Jane assures them.
“Whatever Bree doesn’t know, Y/n will. She was in the thick of it with Victoria and Riley,” Edward tells them. The cloaks look at you but you keep your hard stare on Edward.
“You wouldn’t be suggesting something about our mate, would you?” The man equipping the midnight black cloak questions Edward, his voice edgier than before. As he spoke, the man holding you tightens his grip even more.
Mate. Of course the logical part of you knew but to say it out loud and to accept that it’s real is something else. You wanted to feel relief that they acknowledge that you’re their mate but you can’t help but to feel tense. They’re weren’t reacting to Bree very well and you had done more damage than she ever has. How would they treat you?
“No, of course not.” The leader of the coven promises before sending Edward a look.
“Felix,” Jane says, turning her head slightly toward the tallest.
“She didn’t know what she was doing!” Jane stops Felix. “We’ll take responsibility for her.”
“Give her a chance”
“The Volturi don’t give second chances,” Jane states causing your body to go tense. The man holding your nuzzles shamelessly into the crook of your neck. You can hear him purring quietly. It helps calm you down but the anxiety in your chest lingers. “Keep that in mind, Caius will be interested to see that she’s still human”
“The date is set.”
“Take care of that Felix. I’d like to take our mate home.” Jane says. Felix glances at her then to you before moving to take care of Bree. You flinch when Bree’s screams abruptly stop.
“It’s alright,” The man holding you whispers. “Come on.” He grabs ahold of your hand and leads you out of the clearing. You follow them, leaving the Cullen’s behind without a second thought. They don’t stop until you reach an airfield where a private jet is waiting for you.
You take a moment to stare at it. You’ve never been on a plane before. You wonder where they’re taking you but you keep your questions to yourself. You figured you could count your lucky stars you didn’t end up like Bree, now isn’t the time to push your luck.
You knew that if you needed too you could destroy all of them but the thought of putting them through any sort of pain is displeasing to you. In fact, you hated the thought of them in pain. You knew you would destroy anybody who harms them. Though, this meant you wouldn’t be able to defend yourself against them should they decide to tear you apart. You’d much rather choose death.
“You’re thinking very hard,” You turn to look at Jane. You hadn’t even realized that the five of you had boarded the plane. “You must have questions for us.”
“Umm... Names would be a nice start,” You say, surprised by how quiet your voice is. The last few months you’ve had to be authoritative and demanding yet now you’re quiet and walking on egg shells.
“Of course,” Jane says giving you a gentle smile, a complete contrast to the girl you had seen in the clearing. She still seems reserved but she’s also more relaxed. “I’m Jane and this is my twin, Alec. That is Demetri and Felix.”
“Y/n,” You introduce yourself.
“You’re still tense,” Demetri notices. He sits beside you and rests his hand on your leg. “What worries you?” You look at him for a moment debating if you should keep your worries to yourself.
“No harm will come to you,” Alec promises. Your eyes turn to him. He notices the subtle relief in your posture. “We would never allow anything to happen to you. You’re safe with us.” Demetri leans over and kisses the side of your head as Felix sits besde you, the twins occupying the seats across from you.
“I thought you didn’t give second chances?”
“You’re special,” Jane tells you. “You’re our mate. Our masters will be forgiving toward you.”
“Masters?”
“How much do you know?” Demetri questions.
“Up until yesterday I thought we burned in the sun,” You tell him. “I don’t know much of anything and I’m sure whatever I do know is most likely wrong.”
“When were you turned?” Felix asks. “We’ve been watching the army for a few months but we never smelt you.”
“Victoria and Riley liked to keep me separate from the others. I’ve only been a vampire maybe 5 months? I was only allowed with the others if they were getting too rowdy and needed to be knocked down a peg or two,” You tell them with your naturally cocky smirk.
“Oh? And what did you do?” Demetri questions.
“I can control people. I can make you do whatever I want,” You tell him.
“So, you could make someone shut up when they talk too much?” Felix smirks sending a look at Demetri.
“Well, yes but I normally just make them bite off their own tongue,” You state. Their eyes return to you and you suddenly get the feeling you spoke out of turn.
“Beautiful and deadly,” Demetri hums rubbing his head against yours as if to scent you. “Perfect,” He growls.
“Completely perfect.” Jane agrees. Your eyes turn to her. “You’ll fit right in, my love.”
“And where are we going?” You ask her.
“Volterra, Italy.” She tells you. “It’s where the Volturi reside and where you will live with us.”
“Sounds fun,” You smirk, holding her gaze feeling completely unintimidated by her despite knowing what she can do.
Volterra, Italy. Sounds like the perfect place to satisfy your ambitions with your mates by your side.

Sebastian was doing a press interview for his new movie. It was his first on television interview. First time being back in the studio for The Late Late Show with James Corden. First time since you and him had gotten together. He was eager to see what James had in store for him.
He was wearing a bright yellow shirt paired with a red leather jacket. His legs were clad with a different pair that he wanted to wear originally because you couldn’t get quite enough of his thighs. Had he worn the other pair, there would’ve been a prominent wet spot on one leg where you rode him to your own satisfaction. The memory made him bite his lip and adjust his pants to try to quell his oncoming boner.
“Good luck out there tonight, lovey. You’re gonna crush it.” Your voicemail warmed Sebastian’s heart. He missed you a lot, but you were currently on your own press junket. Your new album finally came out and your manager had been running you ragged. Sebastian was so proud of everything you’ve accomplished, and he wasn’t afraid to show it.
“Hi, Mr. Stan. You’re needed on deck in five minutes.” He nodded at the assistant producer who stuck her head in his dressing room. Sebastian ran his hands through his hair one more time before deciding enough was enough.
“Well, this is as good as it's gonna get.” He murmured to himself as he walked out of the dressing room. He rolled his shoulders, snuggling into the leather jacket encasing his back. Sebastian took a swig of a water bottle from the table backstage. He still got nervous when doing interviews, always worried that he’s going to say the wrong thing.
“And now I would like to introduce our next guest. You’ve seen him as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the last ten years. He’s played the borderline psychotic Jeff Gillooly in I, Tonya, and the corrupt Sheriff Bodecker from The Devil All The Time. It is my pleasure to introduce the one, the only, Sebastian Stan!”
James stood, clapping as Sebastian made his way to the main set area. He raised his right hand, his left remaining on his stomach. As he approached James, Sebastian switched hands, his left coming up as an offer for James to shake. Afterwards, James held his hand out to the chair beside his desk, waiting for Sebastian to sit down.
“Hi, Sebastian! It’s so good to have you back.” James’ accent broke Sebastian’s name up into three distinct syllables, bringing a smile to Seb’s face.
“It’s good to be back, man.” He grinned big, waiting for James to ask the first question. Once they got into it, the interview went smoothly. Sebastian was able to avoid giving out spoilers for his new project, leaving just enough to the imagination. James was in a fit of laughter after Sebastian had told a crazy story from being on set. James wiped tears away from his lower lashline, calming down just enough to catch his breath.
“Okay, so I want to move onto something else.” Sebastian sobered up quickly, unsure of where James was taking the conversation. “We want all the juicy details about your relationship with Y/N.” Sebastian’s brow raised as he pulled a face at James’ question. He laughed to himself for a minute before answering.
“Ya know, we really have you to thank for that.” Sebastian pointed at James, before bringing that same finger to rub his eye.
“Really?” The man’s voice pitched up, brows hitting his hairline.
“Oh yeah. We were only introduced because of your show.” Sebastian leaned back in his chair, remembering that night with you. The two of you had gone out for drinks, talking for hours at the bar and then even longer in his hotel room. He remembered waking up with you wrapped up in his arms. You didn’t have sex that night, but you definitely did the second night.
And oh god, if that second night wasn’t just as amazing as the first. The face you made whenever you climaxed danced it’s way to the forefront of Sebastian’s mind. Not good, definitely not good. He had to readjust himself in his pants again, crossing his legs to cover up his rather large problem.
“Yeah, we started dating that same week. Kept it quiet though.” Sebastian held his palm out in the air, bouncing it up and down.
“Right, right. And do you want to tell everyone how you did end up revealing that you and Y/N were an item?” Sebastian looked down at his lap, smirking to himself. “Or should we just play the clip?”
A clip played for the studio audience. It was Y/N doing her makeup for the Vogue Beauty Secrets Youtube video. Sebastian waltzed in the background of the shot. It then cuts to Sebastian kissing Y/N on the cheek, brandishing the hickey’s that she had sucked onto his cheek the night before. Mhm, I remember that night too.
Sebastian had surprised Y/N by coming to see her. He wasn’t doing anything and he missed you, so why waste a perfectly good opportunity. He spent the night there completely ravishing you until you begged him to stop. That night he proudly wore your thighs as earmuffs, burying his face in you. He really needed to stop reminiscing during an interview.
“How adorable. Was that planned at all? Or did you just do that because you could?” Sebastian shook his head, his right hand scratching at the stubble decorating his jaw.
“Oh, no. It definitely wasn’t planned. I honestly don’t remember if I knew Y/N was filming that morning, so I’m just glad I put on pants before I left the bedroom.” James laughed at Sebastian’s comment.
“Okay, so I’ve gotta ask your opinion on something though.” Sebastian made a hum of acknowledgement, signalling for James to continue. James leaned back, pulling out a cardstock of your new album. “So, this is Y/N’s new album, it just came out about three or four weeks ago?” The crowd clapped for you, and Sebastian cheered along with them.
“What do ya want my opinion on? If it’s the album, then I gotta tell ya, I loved it. Every single song on there is absolutely amazing.” James nodded, a smirk forming on his lips making Sebastian think he made a mistake.
“So you’re aware of the song Europe?” Sebastian smirked, nodding his head because he knew where this was going. “Would you like to tell us what that’s about?” James laughed as Sebastian stammered, looking for the right words. “I mean, let’s just read some of the lyrics.” James looked at the cards in his hands as Sebastian drifted into his thoughts again.
You had brought him into the studio before finalizing Europe. He remembers watching you twist your hands at your waist and continuously cracking your knuckles. Sebastian was curious because you hadn’t ever been like that when showing him a song before. Every question he had about your anxiety revolving around the song was thrown away when he heard it.
Europe was an ode to Sebastian, all of Sebastian. He couldn’t help pulling you down onto his lap by your waist as he listened. You were the only two in the studio, so the two of you were free to do whatever you wanted. The funny thing about that night was that there was a new track recording.
“Oh shit, Seb.” The dam broke afterwards, peels of laughter leaving your lips without explanation. Your right hand raised to your mouth, attempting (and failing) to quiet your giggles.
“Babe, why the ‘oh shit’?” You held up a finger to your lips, telling him to be quiet and listen. He strained his ears, waiting for his own ‘oh shit’ moment. Then, his own voice filtered into his ears, making him crease his brow in confusion. “What is that?”
“That’s the audio from when I first played you Europe.” Small giggles passed your lips again. “I was going to ask you if I could use, like, a sound byte from it for either the beginning or the end of the song.” Sebastian nodded, slightly amazed that you were so creative with your work. “But, I forgot to turn off the recording.” Sebastian’s eyes locked on your expression, waiting for him to connect the dots. He pulled a face and then,
“Oh shit.” His eyes widened, a huff of laughter escaping. “Wait, so it caught all of it?” Your lips rolled inwards, holding back laughs as you nodded your head. Sebastian raised a brow, his eyes flicking over your face. “Use it.” He had a few new hickeys after that night too, but not after decorating your body with a few of his own.
“Sebastian, I would like you to read a few lines from the song, please.” James handed Sebastian a card, a snort leaving Sebastian’s body involuntarily. He glanced at the cards, know the lyrics by heart already. He took a big breath, reading the lines that James chose. He threw him a look with his eyes, head tilting slightly toward the British man.
“Uh, okay, here we go.” Sebastian laughed to himself, blowing out a breath through clenched lips. He lifted the card again, “You know,” dropping his hand back to his lap while raising his other hand. “You know, she’s gonna make fun of me for this right?” James laughed, looking into the camera as if he was on The Office, then to the audience with a duh look on his face.
“Sebastian. We’re going to make fun of you.” The crowd didn’t hesitate to join in James’ amusement. Sebastian dropped his head into his hands, groaning loudly. “Do you need a little encouragement?” The audience began cheering and clapping for Sebastian.
“Fine, alright, alright.” He shook his head before starting. “Long nights with hickeys earned like a badge of honor. Teasing kisses, twisted sheets, all signs of true seduction.” Sebastian looked up from his hands, expecting James to say something. All James offered, though, was a wave of his hand for Sebastian to continue. “I never have to worry because all my sins are forgiven when I’m with you.” James held his hand up, stopping Sebastian from continuing.
“Okay, let’s dissect that, Mr. Stan.” James propped his elbow on his interview desk, placing his head at an angle in his palm. “What is this song about?” Sebastian’s lips curled inward, stopping himself from laughter.
“James,” Sebastian leaned forward against the arm of the couch. “I thought this was a family show.” The British man quirked a brow, sweeping both hands in front of his body gesturing to the studio.
“This is the Late Late Show, Sebastian.” He turned back to the audience, addressing them and the cameras. “And that is all the time we have tonight! Thank you to Sebastian for coming on the show with me tonight! And thank all of you for tuning in tonight. We’ll see you next time.” The producer beside the camera signaled that the show ended and Sebastian turned back to James.
“It’s a good song.” Sebastian smiled wide afterwards, saying his goodbyes to the crew. He was back in the safety of his dressing room when his phone started ringing.
“Hello?” He knew that it was you from the personally assigned ringtone you picked out when he wasn’t looking.
“The Internet is going to eat you alive.” Sebastian grinned as your peels of laughter trickled in through the speaker of his phone.
“Oh yeah, could you imagine if I told them that it wasn’t just random sounds at the end?” He could just imagine your smirk at his mention of your little addition to Europe.
“We’re gonna have to do that again.” Sebastian paused, waiting for you to explain. “Although I think next time we should do a visual along with the audio. You pickin’ up what I’m putting down Stan?” Sebastian smirked to himself, thinking about being able to watch himself bring you to the brink over and over again, even when you’re not together. His pants got tighter at the idea.
“I think we might have to look into that, Y/L/N.”

Being an Avenger required a lot of skills. Practical, physical and mental. You excelled at most of it, your life and that of your teams depended on it. But you had a tendency to let personal matters get in the way.
You weren't the only one guilty of that. You were pretty sure you could name a time it had happened to everyone on the team at some point.
But you and Wanda were much more liable to let that get in the way than the others. You had both made a couple of bad decisions in the past to protect one another's safety. It was hard to control. Your first instinct would always be to protect your girlfriend, as was hers for you.
That was when things were good between you. Things being bad was a new concept, especially the way it affected a mission.
"Clear on the fourth floor C corridor." Wanda said through the comms. You jaw clenched tightly as you withheld the urge to role your eyes.
"I just confirmed that, Maximoff." You said back. Wanda didn't respond to that, not that you expected her to.
You were both working your way up a building that Hydra agents were supposed to be hiding out in. Wanda took the left side and you took the right, there were times where you met in the middle with no exchange of words.
"Thanks anyway, Wanda." Natasha said in an attempt to ease the obvious tension.
You continued to up the stairs to the next floor and tried not to think about the fight you had had the night before. It was a blur the next day, the reason it all started was unknown to you both. You had both been in a bad mood and things had soon escalated...badly. You had both said hurtful things, things you wished you could take back more than anything. The pair of you had formed a habit of giving each other space before apologising, but you had been forced together on the spontaneous mission that has thrown you both off, even more so by the fight being the worst one you two had ever had in your four years of dating. You had no idea where you stood with Wanda.
When you arrived in the center of the fifth floor you and Wanda rounded opposite corners into the main hallway at the same time. You paused when you saw her, she did too.
You were about to say something to her. Something that wasn't bitter or tense. You had the sudden urge to spill out an apology but she spoke first.
"Clear on the fifth floor corridor A." She didn't spare you a second glance, continuing through the building. You nodded to no one and hastily blinked back the tear that threatened to spill.
Focus on the mission. Focus on the mission. Well you didn't have much luck doing that.
"Going on to the next floor." You said steadily. You hadn't done a proper sweep of the floor, but nothing in the building showed any signs of people being there and you needed to put more distance between yourself and Wanda.
You should have waited for her. You knew that. She knew that. No one protested.
As soon as you were on the second floor you let your guard down and leant against a wall to take a moment to gather your thoughts. That was a mistake. A significant one.
You weren't in the right head space for that mission. That become so much more apparent when you when two bullets hit you.
Whether it was shock, panic, being distracted or a most likely combination of all three, you barely registered the first bullet. You saw who shot it though. One single Hydra agent who made a break for the exit behind you.
Just as you raised your gun to fire the second bullet hit you and sent you falling to the ground. You registered him jumping over your immobile body towards the stairs but before he could put one foot on them red swirls surrounded his body and threw him against the wall, knocking him out cold.
Wanda emerged from the hallway and skidded slightly in panic as she stopped to turn your way. Her eyes widened at the sight of the blood covering your clothes and hands. You were shaking violently while trying to put pressure on the wounds, but you didn't know where exactly they were. You couldn't feel any pain. Just numbness. And that was terrifying.
"You...no, fuck. M-medical assistance- now. Y/n's...been shot." Wanda stammered in panic as she knelt down beside you.
Natasha was giving Wanda instructions but you weren't paying attention to anything except your girlfriend.
"It's...okay." You struggled to say. Your breathing was laboured and speaking was even harder. The distinct taste of blood was in your mouth but you had to ignore that.
"I shouldn't have let you come up here alone." Wanda scolded, tears trailing down her cheeks as she found the two wounds. She ripped some fabric from her shirt into two pieces and held them against your stomach.
"I probably...would have...bitten your head...of if...you tried to." You laughed, instantly regretting it as pain shot through you. The shock was wearing off and the pain was taking its place in the most unmerciful way.
Tears fell from your eyes and your head fell back against the hard ground as you gasped, struggling for air. Wanda moved behind you and placed your head in her lap while she continued to apply pressure.
"I'm sorry." Your voice broke as you spoke. "I'm... so sorry for...last night." Wanda instantly shushed you and shook her head. Her left hand stayed on your stomach and her right combed through your hair to calm you.
"We both said bad things."
"I didn't...mean it...any of it." You tried to lock eyes with Wanda through your tears.
"Neither did I, we'll talk about this when you're better." Wanda promised, nodding her head to assure herself that you would be fine.
But just as she said that it became increasingly difficult to stay conscious. It was as though there was something in the dark calling to you, urging you to let go. It would be so easy. There would be no pain. But Wanda wouldn't be there.
You put your hand weakly over hers, wanting her to be the only thing on your mind incase it was the last. The feel of her skin against your own, her soothing voice and the accent she tried to conceal but you loved, the way she cared for you like no one else ever had. The thought that you may never experience that again made your heart drop.
The shaking was getting worse and you felt so cold.
Go to the dark. Don't go to the dark. So easy. No Wanda...Wanda.
You couldn't help it. You couldn't stop it. It washed our you like a wave. The sounds around you became distant, as though everything was far away. You couldn't make out what Wanda was saying. She sounded desperate. You couldn't see her either. Everything was blurred. Then it was all gone.
*
The recurring beeping from the monitor was the only sound in the room. Wanda had always thought she would find them annoying, but the Sokovian never wanted to hear it stop. Not until you didn't need it anymore. Until she didn't need it.
It had been a week since you were shot. A week since she had seen your bright y/e/c eyes. The doctors were skeptical. Wanda vaguely remembered them talking to her about your injuries, the severity of them and how they would effect you if you woke up. Once you woke up. They said it was a slim chance.
Wanda sat curled up in the chair next to your bed watching you, wondering if it felt peaceful to be in that state. She wore your favourite hoodie and had a blanket from your shared bed over her, it was the only thing that brought her comfort.
"Wake up, y/n." She whispered, as though trying to secretly communicate with you. "Please." She raised her voice slightly, thinking it could make a difference. It didn't.
"Y/n." She leant forward in her chair and took both of your hands in her own. All she had been able to think about was your fight. It had been stupid, so so stupid. You hadn't fixed it, not properly. Wanda needed more than than the brief moments on the mission. She didn't get to apologise. She couldn't let you go before she got to apologise. She had done it over and over to your sleeping form. But it didn't count. She needed you to wake up. To look at her again. To smile. To speak. To go on another date. To share another kiss. To sleep in the same bed...to get married. There was so much left to do. Wanda wasn't prepared for it to be cut short. It wasn't fair.
"Y/n please wake up. I'm so sorry." She pleaded as she gripped your hands like a lifeline. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she pleaded over and over.
"Wake up, dammit!"
*
When your eyes finally flickered open you shut them again instantly. It was bright, far too bright. You gave a soft groan at that and tried to shield your face with your hand but found no energy to do so.
Your throat was dry and scratchy and your eyes were stinging from the exposure to the light.
You became aware of the beeping and glanced at the monitor as you tried to adjust to your surroundings, taking a for moments to remember how and why you were even in a hospital bed.
In the corner of your eye you saw movement on your left. You slowly turned your head in that direction and had your breath caught in your throat at the sight of your sleeping girlfriend. Was she still your girlfriend? Your heart dropped at the possibility that she might not be, but you hastily pushed it to the side and appreciated her company.
You had missed her. You had no idea how long you had been out. You had no memory of what it was like. All you knew was the familiar feeling of coming home deep in your chest.
Wanda's slim hand was resting on the bed next to yours and out of pure instinct you laced your fingers through her own, still unable to get over how perfectly they felt entwined together. Would she pull her hand away when she woke up? Would she shout at you more?
Fortunately you didn't have to wait long to find out. Wanda stirred from her uncomfortable looking position on the chair and blinked a few times before her eyes fell to your hands.
She furrowed her brows in confusion at the sight, not remembering putting them together but one look up told her all she needed to know.
"Y/n." She said as a sigh of relief, sitting up straight and gleaming at you.
"Wanda." You croaked with a weak but genuine smile. She picked up on that and with one flick of her tinted red wrist a small cup of water came floating towards you.
"Thank you." You said gratefully and took the cup with your free hand, wanting to hold Wanda's for as long as you could. You gulped the water down quickly and placed it on the bed side table before looking back at Wanda.
"You scared me." She admitted, concern prominent in her shimmering eyes.
"I'm sorry." She shook her head and was quick to speak.
"No, no more apologies from you. I'm sorry. For everything. I-" You cut her off by placing a finger to her lips with a smile.
"Stop."
"I really am though." You knew that, you could see it.
"I know you are." You said genuinely. "And I am too. I don't even know how it..." You trailed off as you opened and closed your mouth, not knowing what you were even trying to say. Wanda laughed and nodded, you had missed that sound so much.
"Are we...are we okay?" You asked timidly, fearing the response so much you couldn't look her in the eyes, only staring at your entwined hands.
Wanda lifted your chin with one of her fingers, wanting you to look at her as you spoke. Her warm smile greeted you like a treasured friend.
"We are. And I'm going to spend the rest of my life making it up to you."
"Well then that's going to get confusing really quickly because I'll be doing the exact same." You declared. Wanda laughed again and brought your hands up to her lips to place a soft kiss on them. A smile spread easily across your face at the gesture.
"Come here." You muttered as you moved over to the edge of the bed and pulled the duvet back for your girlfriend.
She eagerly accepted the offer and slipped in beside you, instantly wrapping her free arm around you to bring you close while her other still held your hand.
"I love you." She whispered as she kissed your forehead.
"I love you too." You smiled and held onto her loose clothing and...how the hell did you miss that? "Is that my hoodie?"

---
Being in Gryffindor was great. Being a Gryffindor dating a Slytherin, not as great. Being a Gryffindor secretly dating a Slytherin who just so happened to be Draco Malfoy, a little complicated.
You couldn't pinpoint the exact moment you fell in love with Draco, but he chipped away at your armor little by little until he held your heart firmly in his hands.
You could tell that something was different about him around third year, he was less of an entitled prick and actually managed not to bother your housemates much that year. It seemed like he finally managed to get it in his head that he wasn’t any better than the rest of you, despite his pure bloodline.
It was fourth year that you had started actually paying some more attention to him. Your eyes automatically finding him whenever you were in the same room together. He noticed too, sending you discreet smirks that caused a flutter in your stomach. One day in Potions he decided to sit by you instead of his usual seat and you merely raised an eyebrow at him. That was when the note passing began.
Hogsmeade this weekend? He wrote down on a scrap piece of parchment beside his ingredients, pretending to take down notes on what was brewing in his cauldron.
You asking me out on a date, Malfoy? You wrote back, managing to slip it back to him while Snape had his back turned.
Possibly. Was his only reply.
It’s gonna take much more than that for me to say yes.
Neither of you could continue passing this note between yourselves as your attentions turned back to the complicated potions were brewing and Snape had begun making his rounds around the room.
It wasn’t unusual after that for you to find scraps of parchment shoved into your books or between your notes, all containing Draco’s distinct handwriting. The contents of the notes were never the same, sometimes he would tell you about his day, other times he would write down clever little jokes or interesting food combinations for you to try out. Soon, you had found yourself eagerly waiting for these little messages and tidbits of information about the blonde haired boy.
The Astronomy tower is my favorite place in the whole castle. It’s nice to just sit there and be with my thoughts.
The Giant Squid is a girl. Don’t ask how I know.
Next time you’re down in the kitchens, ask the house elves for some vanilla ice cream and a plate of fresh chips.
It wasn’t long before you finally agreed to go on that date to Hogsmeade.
After that, your feelings for Draco bloomed quite quickly. Discrete study sessions in the library lasted long into the night, little gifts would appear in your bag or on your bed when you would have a rough day, subtle touches were shared whenever you had class together. You two were never seen publicly displaying any kind of affection though, which made it seem like you guys weren’t exactly dating.
You were fine with that kind of set up, preferring to keep your love life private and away from prying eyes. It also helped filter out the gossip about you and the questions you knew your friends would ask if they knew. They thought your friendship with Draco was a little off-putting, but chose not to say anything because they saw how he was different from your first few years in Hogwarts.
Fifth year was a little more tricky to deal with since Umbridge was around and stomping around like she owned the place.
Tensions were high as she constantly berated and belittled Harry, calling him a liar and embarrassing him in front of everyone in class. You were friends with him, Ron, and Hermione and of course you knew the truth. It made your blood boil that she thought she could treat him, or any other student for that matter, like that.
Draco, on the other hand, chose to keep quiet and keep out of Umbridge’s way. He didn’t want to get on her bad side, understandably, since his father was so closely involved in the Ministry.
“The more you keep your head down, the better love,” He would say as you complained to him about how awful she could be to Harry during your study sessions at the library, “I know for a fact that she wouldn’t hesitate to make you use that damn quill too if you gave her any reason. I don’t want you going through that.”
For the most part, you listened to his advice.
One day, however, you were just so over everything Umbridge had to say. She had gotten a dig in at Harry and his “lies” one too many times during class and you had just lost it.
“Oh shut up,” You snapped out loud.
Hermione’s head snapped to yours as quickly as you had said it, eyes wide in panic. Even Harry, who was trying his hardest not to retaliate because of his already sore and cut hand, gave you a look that said don’t bother.
“Excuse me?” The toad dressed in pink sent you a sarcastic smile, “What did you just say?”
You felt Hermione grip your arm as if to say please don’t. You shook her off.
“I said, shut up.” You spoke clearly, “You have no right to be ridiculing, and frankly humiliating, someone who is just a student and a minor, especially when you’re in a position of authority.”
The whole room was silent. Usually those who got on Umbridge’s bad side were those who chose not to follow her stupid educational degrees, or who spoke of Voldemort’s return. No one had ever called her out so publicly and straight to her face.
“Detention for the rest of the week, Miss Y/L/N. For speaking out of turn,” Was all Umbridge said.
You rolled your eyes but stayed silent, heart hammering in your chest when the realization of what exactly detention with her meant. A puff of breath escaped your lips and your mind wandered for the rest of the period, none of your friends bothering to ask if you were okay, clearly seeing that you weren’t in the right headspace.
The first few days of detention, you didn’t tell Draco where you were going, just saying that you were busy those nights and couldn’t really spend as much time with him as you liked. He was skeptical, but understood nonetheless. Every night before you two split ways, you going to Umbridge’s office and him heading for the dungeons, he would gently kiss you on the lips and whisper a soft I love you.
Those little reassurances were what helped you power through every sting of the words “I will not speak out of turn” on the back of your hand. As each detention wore on, though, you could feel your strength wavering.
On Friday night, the last night of your detention, you walked into Umbridge’s office and every breath you took shook from nerves. Your hand hadn’t healed from the previous night and it was more than painful. It pulsed as you waited for her to give you the go signal to start writing, and four hours later, it was red and raw. Blood dripped down from the edges of the words that no doubt left a scar and you couldn’t help the tears as they escaped the corners of your eyes.
The moment you stepped through the threshold of her office and into the silent corridor, a sob escaped your lips. You couldn’t bear to go back to Gryffindor tower yet but it was way past curfew and you couldn’t be seen wandering around the corridors. That meant that you found yourself in an empty alcove, trying to contain your tears and murmur quick healing spells on your hand.
You felt like such a baby, letting that foul woman get the better of you, but there was no mistaking the damage she did on you, both physically and mentally.
“Y/N?” You heard someone whisper. You nearly jumped out of your skin, quickly wiping your eyes with your good hand and strategically hiding the other as you saw Draco at the end of the hallway.
“Draco,” You breathed, “What’re you doing out so late?”
“Prefect duties, it’s my turn to patrol tonight,” He said simply, “I could ask you the same thing, are you alright?”
A beat passed as you debated on what your answer should be.
“No, not really.” You replied weakly, knowing that he would see right past any form of lie or distraction you could create, eyes glancing at your bloodied hand.
He was quick to take notice too, “Who hurt you?” He said before rushed forward, gently cradling your injured hand in his.
“You can take a guess,” You muttered as his eyes scanned over the words etched onto the back of your hand.
“Oh darling,” He murmured, making his way into the alcove and gathering you up into his arms, “How did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me?”
You sighed into his chest, “You should’ve heard her! She was going on and on about how malicious and not right in the head she thought Harry was. I couldn’t just sit there and let her talk about him like that. You know that he’s telling the truth, he shouldn’t be singled out and punished for that! I called her out on it and she gave me detention the whole week.”
“What the hell were you thinking?” He asked more harshly than he intended and you felt like a toddler being scolded, “I told you that keeping your head down wouldn’t land you in situations like this.”
You knew he meant well and that he was just thinking of your happiness and safety, but with the rush of emotions running through you tonight, you didn’t want to be treated like a child. All you wanted was to be comforted and you had foolishly thought that Draco could give that to you.
“Oh sod off, Draco,” You huffed, pulling away from him and wincing as you lent on your injured hand, “I didn’t ask for a lecture, I’ve had my fill of that for today I would think.”
Tears had started to form in your eyes again as your frustration grew at your boyfriend. It had been a long night and this was not how you had seen it going when you spotted him down the hallway. You were about to move and make your way back to Gryffindor tower when you felt his hand softly grip your wrist.
“Hey, I’m sorry I snapped.” He said, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you back to his chest, “I just don’t like knowing that you got hurt when it could’ve been avoided.”
“I know,” You mumbled, still slightly put off at the boy whose arms enveloped you and whose scent was already calming you down.
Before you knew it, he was standing and sending you one of his trademark soft smiles that never failed to melt your heart.
“C’mon, you’re staying with me tonight.” He said, taking your uninjured hand in his and tugging slightly to get you to start moving.
“What if Umbridge catches us?” You asked, fear creeping in at the thought of more detentions being doled out to you. The thought of Draco having to go through it too made your stomach churn.
“She won’t.” He said confidently, “And if she does, I’m a prefect and she’s favors Slytherin anyway, I can tell her that I’m escorting you back to your dorm.”
The two of you walked silently hand-in-hand all the way to the slab of wall that indicated the Slytherin dorms. Draco gave you a large jumper to put on once you got to his dorm, as he went about getting ready for bed. The familiar scent of his cologne was enough to help you relax as you sank into the soft mattress and closed your eyes. Soon you felt the bed dip and Draco once again wrapped his arms around your waist.
A contented sigh escaped your lips as he peppered soft kisses along your neck and shoulder.
“I love you,” He mumbled against your shoulder, “You know that right?”
Turning to face him, you sent him a soft smile, “Yeah. I love you too.”
For a while, Draco was content leaning down and pecking your lips every so often. No words were spoken and none were needed as both of you basked in the presence of the other. After a while, your stomach grumbled as you hadn’t had much to eat before your detention with Umbridge. The nerves were too much for you to stomach anything substantial.
Draco shifted away slightly and asked, “Do you want me to go grab you something from the kitchens? I’m sure the house elves would be happy to whip something up for you.”
You only shuffled closer to him, letting his warmth wash over you, “I’m alright, I’d rather be with you anyway.”
He gave out a soft hum and pressed a kiss to your forehead, letting you know that he heard you. It wasn’t long until you drifted off to sleep in his arms.

Shit Talk - JJ Maybank
Request: Hi !! can i please get a boyfriend JJ Maybank x kook!reader, she decides its time for JJ to meet her kook friends knowing that they’ll like him but they ended up liking him a little too much because all they did was flirt & compliment him and they also kept embarrassing reader infront of JJ to make them seem better than her? Basically fake friends trying to steal your gorgeous boyfriend out of jealousy and reader starts to cry because of this and JJ gets angry!! 😭❤️❤️
Outer Banks Masterlist
-
JJ slammed the door on your suv as he got out, eyes already on the large plantation style home you were parked in the horseshoe driveway of. Despite the sunglasses he was wearing he shielded his eyes as he stared at the opposing building. “Can we talk about why you’re forcing me to come to this party if you hate all the people here?”
“Cause they’re my friends from school. Sarah will be there too, I don’t hate Sarah.” You reasoned, grabbing the card for your friend’s birthday and making sure you had everything else on you. Keys tossed to JJ over the hood of the car as you slammed your own door shut. He slipped the lanyard around his neck.
“No, but you constantly bitch about everyone else.”
“It’s cause they’re the worst.” You shrugged. And they were truly the worst people you knew. Like all the mean girls from every teen drama rolled into one ultimate evil entity, these girls were literal demons but you were obligated, through school hierarchy and the desire to not ruin your social standing, to attend social gatherings like birthday parties. And you’d been blowing them off lately to spend all your time with JJ.
“But we’re going?”
“Yes.”
“I’m so confused.” JJ confessed, “you know if you don’t like someone, don’t hang out with them.”
“Says the most likable person I know.” You grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the front door.
“Hey, just cause everyone likes me but that doesn’t mean I hang out with people I don’t like. Except you…but I really needed a new phone so-“
You stopped to turn and smack his arm, a fake gasp leaving your lips as if you were truly offended by his teasing. “JJ! Shut up. You’re such a jerk.”
“And yet you like me.”
“Maybe.” You shrugged, “I’m good at faking it.”
“I’ve seen you with people you don’t like…you’re incapable of fake nice.” He replied.
“Prepare to be amazed.” You leaned up, closing your eyes and pressing your lips to his for a kiss only to be interrupted by the door opening and the distinct squeal of your most hated friend. You pulled away and turned around so fast you practically gave yourself whiplash.
“Oh my god you made it!” Scarlett bounced out of the house, wide smile on her face as crossed the threshold and wrapped you in a tight hug. Despite dry hair and skin that looked like she’d just applied a layer of body shimmer her bikini was slightly damp against your cover-up.
“Hey! So sorry we’re late I was halfway out the door when I saw myself in the bathing suit I was gonna wear and had to change…it was not cute.” You lied, returning the hug. You’d pit stopped first to buy a last-minute card and take money from the atm and then to get coffee. As you had reasoned with JJ, there was no way you were surviving this pool party without caffeine in your system.
“Lies, you look good in everything.” Scarlett insisted though she’d definitely sung a different tune in the past. Her eyes landed on JJ as she stepped back and she smiled, “whose this?”
“Oh, duh, this is my boyfriend JJ, I figured when better to introduce everyone than at Ashley’s party.” You offered, stepping aside so you weren’t blocking him.
“For sure,” She did a once over of him like he was merchandise and JJ only smiled, biting his tongue to stop himself from saying anything you would be pissed at him for. He would save his comments for the sanctity of the car. “Well I’m Scarlett, there’s a lot of people here so if you forget just let me know and I’ll tell you.”
“Awesome.” He replied. Scarlett grabbed his free hand, pulling him away from you and beginning to drag him inside the house as you followed behind. He looked back at you, mouthing an ‘I’m gonna kill you.’
‘Airpods’ You mouthed back, ‘and you love me.”
He shook his head, a grim expression on his face but you knew he was only joking.
-
Despite the entire crowd being contained to the outside pool deck and yard you lost Scarlett and JJ relatively easily. Or, Scarlett lost you so she could spend quality time cozying up to your boyfriend. While you felt bad leaving him to the wolves while you found the drink table and chatted with Sarah, you weren’t too worried about him otherwise. You had heard all about JJ’s past womanizing from a wealth of jealous pogues but you didn’t have any doubt that he was faithful.
He was a great boyfriend, better than any guy you’d dated before. Too good to be subjected to a round table of Scarlett, Ashley, and their friends. So you grabbed yourself a drink and headed over to save him.
“Oh my god and one time-” Scarlett’s voice died off as she saw you getting closer to them and she smiled at you in faux excitement, “oh hey!”
“Hey,” you nodded at her before turning to look at JJ, “hey there you are.”
“We were just getting to know JJ. You know, vet him and all.” Scarlett replied, leaning over her armrest to grab JJ’s arm. He shrugged her off and shifted in his seat.
“Exciting.”
“You wanna sit?” He asked, tilting his head back to look at you, pleading eyes begging you to sit down.
“Oh I don’t think there’s a chair.” Ashley piped up, looking around the table. Four other girls occupied the chairs around them.
“No problem, I’ll make do.” You tapped on the arm of JJ’s chair, smiling at Ashley when he moved the chair so that you could comfortably sit on his lap. He put and arm around your waist to keep you secured and laid a kiss on the side of your neck.
“Oh, good.” Scarlett forced a smile, jaw tense. “Anyway, I was just telling JJ, do you remember that time in 8th grade when we went on that double date to the ice rink on the mainland.”
You paled almost immediately. She was really going to play that game. “Uh…no.”
“Oh my god!” Scarlett turned more toward JJ, wide smile on her face, “First of all, she was so chubby in 8th grade like thank god for hitting the gym and doing those CrossFit classes cause you looked like a potato. Plus she ate like everything! Do you remember that? You had like a hotdog and fries and ice cream and then we were skating and she said she didn’t feel good and she blew chunks all over the guy! Who was it, I can’t remember his name?”
“I have no idea.” You replied.
“Oh my god I totally remember that!” Ashley laughed. “Someone videoed it and put it up on the school’s insta...it was hilarious.”
“Doesn’t really sound it.” JJ said, grip tightening.
“You’re way cuter than he was anyway,” Ashley mentioned, “I think he was like a family friend or something. And you’ve stuck it out too, how long have you guys been dating?”
“Three months.”
“It’s good it’s the summer. You can get out before you have to experience hibernation weight.” Scarlett added and the other girls around the table laughed at the joke. You smiled nervously, trying to look unbothered by what they were saying. You should have known that the moment you sat down the attack would start, Scarlett had her eye on JJ the minute she walked out of the house.
“What?” JJ was not laughing.
“Oh my god, I don’t know what she does but she always gains like…what is it? Like 15 pounds?”
“Yeah.” You nodded.
“Like 15 pounds in the winter.”
“Yeah get her while she’s still cute cause you are way too hot to spend time stuck with someone who bloats up every winter.” Ashley replied.
“I can’t believe I haven’t seen you around, Ashley’s right you’re super hot.”
Suddenly Ashley smiled, reaching across the table to tap the space in front of you and get your attention. “Oh, oh my god do you remember okay, so this one time-“
“Actually, I gotta go. I got work.” JJ said, cutting her off. He bounced his knee to signal for you to get up, “babe,”
“Yeah, of course, I’ll see you guys later.” You stood, trying to remember if JJ had told you that he had a shift today. You couldn’t think but then your mind was swimming with their insults. You were only vaguely aware of JJ grabbing your hand.
“Seriously? You’re ditching in the middle of the party?” Scarlett asked, offended that he was leaving and even more so that he was leaving with you.
“Yeah well,” JJ shrugged, looking over at her, “if I stay any longer I’ll probably punch one of you in the mouth so, not really in the mood to sit around and listen to you bullshit about my girlfriend.”
“We were just joking!” Ashley insisted, “Weren’t we joking?”
“I wasn’t laughing.” JJ replied. He tugged on your hand when you didn’t move, “come on.”
The two of you excited the backyard and made it all the way to your car, JJ slipping in the driver’s side as you sat in the passenger seat, still trying not to have an absolute meltdown in front of him. And in front of the security cameras they would probably check later just to see if they made you cry.
“Thanks…” You muttered, leaning against the window.
“You weren’t kidding, they are the worst.” JJ replied as he backed down the driveway. In the santity of the car he could say what was actually on his mind and it was extensive.
“I know.” You did know, you’d been dealing with it since you were in kindergarten and Scarlett told you that you had fat thighs. “Scarlett’s known me forever so she has years of embarrassing stories.”
JJ nodded. He took one hand off the wheel and reached over to hold your hand. “You know I think you’re beautiful right?”
“Yes.”
“Yes you know and believe me or yes I don’t want to talk about it anymore so I’m agreeing with you?” He asked, glancing over at you.
You bit your lip to stop from smiling, “if you know which one it is, why are you asking?”
“Cause I want it to be the first one?” He said. “Those girls are seriously the worst.”
“Well I hang out with them less now that Kie goes to school with me but I still have to see them sometimes. I can’t avoid it.”
“Yeah I know.”
“Thanks for coming, and for saying you’d punch them in the mouth.” You said, laughing a little as you recalled the horrified look on Ashley’s face when he said that.
“Them and anyone else who talks shit on you.” He replied.

When They Know (You're the One)
(Summary: There's a moment, one distinct moment, when you know you're going to spend the rest of your life with someone. This is the Avengers (plus Loki and Bucky) having those moments.
Reader Insert, inspired by an imagine I have long since lost the link too. Open to writing a part two for the other characters.
Notes: Hey all! This is something I've pretty much sat on for a year, but the convincing of two best friends has pushed me to post it. Basically, it's just a quick bite of little moments with each Avenger, with a reader insert. Yes, it was slightly self indulgent. Hope y'all enjoy.
Read on AO3
Steve
It was how you welcomed him home.
He comes back to your shared floor in the tower after a day of meetings. He was tired, and wanted nothing more than to take a hot shower and wait for you to come back from your training with Wanda. He paused when he heard music softly playing. Glenn Miller’s "Moonlight Serenade" drifted around the corner, pulling Steve into the living room. His guard dropped when he saw you curled up on the couch in one of his sweatshirts, book in hand. Regina, your cat, and Doger, his dog, were laying at your feet.
Steve was always captivated by your beauty, but in this moment, with your attention completely held by the book in your hand, thinking no one is watching you, is when he found you the most stunning. Before he could clear his throat to let you know he was here, you glance up at him. A breathtaking smile broke out across your face as you got up to welcome Steve home. It was in that moment, he knew that he would never let you go.
Tony
It was in your careless beauty after an event. The two of you were in his room, lounging on his bed, after the monthly Avengers Gala that Stark Industries held. Every month, the Avengers and Stark Industries held a fundraising Gala to help different organizations in need. It had been your idea; being the Avengers PR person, you had proposed the idea after seeing the growing interest the public had in seeing the “real life superheroes” more, but still being unsure of the Avengers after New York and Sokovia. The galas let the general public mingle with the elite, all while the Avengers mingled with both. (You had started to notice how much the heroes spent less and less time with the elite and more with the general public (especially Steve and Bucky)).
You were wearing one of Tony’s button ups and a pair of pajama shorts. A champagne bottle rested against your leg as you grabbed for another slice of pizza. Tony laughed at you; you were always hungry after the galas. He reached for a slice too. He glanced up at you as you took a bite, just staring for a moment. Your hair was in an imperfect bun, wet strands falling around your face from where you missed a few pieces after your shower. There was a smudge of black under each eye from leftover makeup. As you wiped some sauce from the side of your mouth, Tony could see where your fingernail polish had started to chip. You noticed his staring. “What, playboy? Do I have something on my face?” He laughed at the nickname. Any other time, he would have sassed back. But the whiskey that had been coursing through his veins finally reached his head. Or maybe it was your beauty. Maybe it was a combination of the two that made him say, “No. I just realized I’m going to marry you someday.” You rolled your eyes at him, laughing. You thought he was joking. But Tony knew the truth, and that’s all that mattered; for now.
Clint
It was how you interacted with his kids, and how you could read him.
He had just come back from a mission. He and Nat had gotten banged around, nothing serious, but he knew his ribs were going to be hurting for a few days. He heard laughter the moment he stepped off the elevator to your shared floor. His smile grew when he saw you and his kids in the process of building a blanket fort, you standing carefully on a leaning chair to get the blanket on a high hook. Lila hid her face behind her hands as you made a show of “almost” falling, before doing a flip and landing perfectly. Little Nathaniel clapped his hands as the three cheered. The four of you took a step back to admire your work. The three kids all come in close to you, Nate hugging your leg. Your hand came down to play with his hair. You all talk quietly about what to add. Clint’s heart clinches at the sight. While his and Laura’s split was mutual, and they still cared for one another, it had been hard, for both them and the kids. To see you interact well with the three people that made up a big portion of his world, and them to do the same with you… Clint really couldn’t ask for more.
He caught the repetitive tapping of your fingers on your leg. “Take your time. Love you.”
Natasha
You learned Russian for her.
Any time she came into the room when it was just you and Bucky, the two of you would stop talking and a red hue would cover your cheeks. It didn’t take a spy to know you were hiding something. At first, Nat had a fleeting thought that you might be cheating on her, but she knew you, and knew Buck, and knew that that wasn’t the case. So she let the secret go for the time being; well, that’s a lie. She actually decided to turn it into a game and see if she could find out what it was that you were keeping from her. But sneaking up on the Winter Soldier proved to be difficult, considering most of her skills she had learned were from him.
She thought she had figured out a way to catch you. She was thinking through her plan while making her coffee that morning when your arms snaked around her waist. She smiled as you rested your head on her shoulder, placing a kiss on the bare skin. “Доброе утро Любовь. Спать хорошо?” you asked.
“конечно, ты был следующим -” Natasha froze as she processed what just happened. She spun in your arms to face you. “That’s what you and Barnes have been doing?”
“Yes. Were you going to say because I was next to you?”
“Yes. Why are you learning Russian?”
You rolled your eyes. “Because of you, silly. Your Russian, are you not? And while most of your Russian adventures are in your past and not really you anymore, they and Russia are still a part of you. I love every part of you and want to know every part of you, so I asked Bucky it he would be willing to--”
Natasha cut off the rest of your explanation by placing a kiss on your lips. If there were tears on her checks, neither of you mentioned it.
(Translation: Доброе утро Любовь. Спать хорошо? - Good morning, love. Sleep well?конечно, ты был следующим. - Of course, you were next -- Done with Google. I'm sorry if they are incorrect. Please let me know if they are so I can fix it.)
Thor
You didn’t treat his brother like a villain.
None of the team was thrilled when Thor announced that Loki would be coming to live with him on Earth. But considering the alternative was for Loki to be executed, Thor convinced them to allow Loki to stay in the tower. But of course there were rules. Loki and Thor accepted these; Loki just wanted to leave the place that never felt like a home to him, and felt even less so now, no matter what his mother did to try and help. Thor was excited to see you once again, to be able to be with you once again, but he worried about how you would react to Loki. You had been badly injured when the Chatiri attacked. Thor loved both you and his brother; he wanted, no, needed you two to get along.
When the time came for Loki to move in, all the Avengers were waiting in the teleportation room. The alarm alerted you to the brothers incoming arrival. You all shielded your eyes as the Bifrost opened. The blinding light cleared, leaving the polar opposite sons of Odin in its place. Everyone stayed still for a moment. You rolled your eyes at all of them before throwing yourself at Thor. He caught you with a laugh, spinning you around.
Loki rolled his eyes. “Maybe I should have chosen execution.”
You sensed the movement of the team tensing and gripping their weapons. Placing a kiss on Thor’s cheek, you walked over to Loki. You knew he recognized you from when he fought against you during the Chatiri invasion; you also knew it wasn’t his fault. Hardly any of the New York Attack was Loki’s fault, directly. Knowing that, you placed your hands over both of the bracelets on his wrist, said a small incantation, and melted them away. You felt and saw Loki’s magic return to him. His eyes were swirling with questions. All you said to him was, “No one, not a single being, deserve to be cut off from something that makes them whole.”
Thor had tears in his eyes. He had been trying to convince others that his brother wasn’t the enemy, and here was the woman that he loved, showing that she believed that too.
Bruce
You loved him despite his inner demon.
Bruce Banner had felt ever since his… accident, that he was very much two different people. You once joked he was a modern day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Tony thought it was hysterical, Bruce not so much). Despite his green friend always being just under Bruce’s skin, you never once feared him. The Hulk and Bruce were one person, and that was something you accepted very early on; Bruce knew he loved you then.
But the moment he knew he would spend forever with you was when you didn’t shy away from his true inner demon. Not the green one, but the one that was very human. The self doubt that he was nothing and only ever became something because of a gamma radiation explosion. The anxiety that he would one day lose control and destroy everything that he held dear. The depression that came from every so-called mistake he thought he had made in his scientific career. The depression that manifests in self isolation so no other mistake could be made, or at least no one was there to be hurt when they were made. He was certain that these monsters would be the ones to push you away from him; they would be the ones that would make you run away screaming.
You never once left his side, though. You calmed the anxiety attacks; you silenced the dark thoughts in his mind. You were his voice in every moment that he needed you. You were his protector, and he would do everything in his power to keep you.
Loki
You saw through the illusion.
Loki moved into the tower not long after everything that happened with the Battle of Sokovia, which was when you joined the team. He was brought to Earth to atone for his sins; Odin thought it poetic to banish his son to the place where he caused destruction.
Besides Bucky (shared trauma in brainwashing and all), you were the first one to accept Loki as he was. A connection flowed easily between you, bonding over books and similar battle styles; you both favored knives and daggers. One night, you two were in the living room of the comunal floor. Loki and you had only been dating for a few months, but your friendship led to a strong bond already. You were reading; Loki had been too, though he was now asleep, head resting in your lap. Your hand stilled in his hair as he started to fidget. Twitching and moaning, you recognized the signs of his nightmares immediately. Your gentle coasting to awake still startled him. A moment on the couch, the next on the floor staring into red eyes surrounded by a blue tinged face. As quickly as it was there, Loki was his blue-eyed, pale skinned self, helping you from the ground.
“Apologies, my love. I do not know what came over me.” He ran his hands through his hair.
You rolled your eyes. “Bullshit. Are you okay?” You reached out for him.
He smiled softly before turning away from you. “Yes, yes, I’m fine, love.”
“Loki, you are not--”
“I said I’m fine, Y/N,” he interrupted. He started to walk away.
“Wha- No, wait.” He didn’t stop. “Loki of Asgard, you stop right now and look at me, damnit!” He stopped, but didn’t turn. “Loki. Please. You can pretend with the team, with your brother even. But don’t lie to me. You’re not fine, not have you been for a long time. Look at me.” While you spoke, you walked closed to him. You reached out to place a hand on the back of his shoulder.
He caught your wrist, half turning to look at you. “You see through the illusions.”
It wasn’t a question. You still answered. “Yes, I do.” You used your captured hand to turn his face to you. “You may be the God of Mischief, but your lies have never worked on me.” You whipped a tear from his cheek.
He’d never admit it to you, but his heart clenched and he was at a momentary loss for words. All he could think to say, as he pulled you into his arms, was, “I know not how I got so fortunate to have you in my life, but I thank whoever it was that allowed it.” You just hugged him tighter.
Bucky
It was how you celebrated his 37th birthday.
Bucky had a doopy smile on his face as he read one of the texts from you; he and Steve were disembarking from one of Stark’s planes. Bucky brought his head up at the sound of laughter. “What, punk?” Bucky shoved Steve’s shoulder.
Steve rolled his eyes. “Nothing. Tell y/n hi from me, jerk.”
Bucky shot back that he would as he headed straight to the garage.
When he did get home, a wonderful aruma tickled his nose while Janet Blair’s “You’d be so Nice to Come Home To” floated to his ears. Dropping his bag by the door, he rounded the island. All of his weariness from the mission vanished once he saw you. Your hair was pinned up and you wore a y/f/c swing dress. He caught the reflection of your makeup; simple, with eyeliner your top lids, just a kiss of it on the lower, massacre gracing your lashes, and a red perfetingly complementing your skin coating your lips. When you faced Bucky, he had to grip the island slightly for support. You looked just like the dames he knew growing up. But unlike all of them, you were his, and you took his breath away.
“Buck! I didn’t hear you come in,” you exclaimed.
He reached out to you; you willingly stepped into his arms. Bucky placed a kiss on your lips, humming as he pulled away. “You look stunning, doll. What’s the occasion?” He started swaying you to the music.
You laughed. “You are, you dork. Or did you forget you turned a whole century while you are on this mission?”
“Ouch, doll. You really know how to make a man feel loved. I’m only 37,” he tried reasoning as he dipped you.
“Is that so? Then why does your birth certificate say you were born in 1917?” Bucky raised an eyebrow at you. “Fine, happy 37th birthday, even though you were born 100 years ago. Do you want some cake? I made this one special.” You began biting the side of your lip.
“Sure, babe. I’d love some.” Bucky gave you once last peck before letting you go.
You went to the cake, cutting two slices. Bucky saw you fidget slightly as you set them pieces down on the island. Not sure as to why you’d be so nervous (you’d made him chocolate cake before, it was his favorite), he picked up his fork and took a big bite. The explosion of flavor in his mouth caused him to pause for a moment before he kept chewing. Unsure if his senses were playing tricks on him, he took another small bite. Nope, that tasted exactly like-- “Is this my mother’s recipe?” Disbelief clouded his voice. You nodded your head. “And her icing?” You nodded again.
“It wasn’t easy to replicate, or even find the recipe, but this birthday is a big deal so I thought--” you were cut off by Bucky pulling you to him and crashing his lips to yours. You could taste the chocolate on his lips.

Pub Food and Southern Delights
Summary: Henry was many things. Deceitful being just another trait, and it is one that you cannot tolerate.
Pairing: Dark Henry Cavill x Black reader
A/N: This is my first attempt at something dark. I’m not going to lie. My intentions for this are pretty heavy. Please, let me know what you think!
Warnings: Character Death, Murder/Suicide. Dubcon (later chapters) and I’m sure some other things. 18+
Chop. Chop. Chop. Your hands mechanically diced the red onions. The strong scent of the root caused your eyes to water and the sight of the oak cutting board to blur. You paused taking a step away to the sink, and wetting a cold paper towel to press against your eyes.
You were stowed away in an unnecessarily large kitchen dicing vegetables for the evening’s dinner. State of the art stainless steel appliances, concrete counters, and ash wood cabinets surrounded you. The combination should have given off a warm and inviting atmosphere, but the gleam and too new look of the appliances left if too sterile and cold. Much like the relationship you found yourself in. Pretty to look at, but lacking in real substance.
You leaned against the sink, the cold press of the metal pushing into your lower back and heaved a sigh. Tears that were initially caused by the onion were blending with tears caused by utter defeat.
How had you been so blind? How could you have let it get to this point?
On and on your mind went around how you allowed yourself to end up in the situation. In the beginning Henry was amazing, an absolute Godsend. He’d been the perfect mixture of gentleman and brute with just the right amount of freak you needed to keep you satisfied.
Henry had swept you off your feet easily. All sweet charm and dazzling smiles. You’d been a goner the first time he’d pushed that pitch-black hair back winked at you.
He was able to provide for you in ways you that you had only read about in romance novels. A powerful CEO, he was as rich as he was handsome, and he loved to lavish you with those riches.
Focus. You mentally chided yourself and pushed away from the sink to return to your task.
Henry maintained a love of pub food. Bangers and mash being one of his favorites. You needed tonight to go off without a hitch, hence you bringing out the big guns by way of one of his favorite meals. The onions started sizzling along with the bangers in the skillet. Your mind drifted reliving instances over the past year and a half that lead you here, particularly the events of three days ago.
#
You could still feel the nervous hope budding in your chest, barely there, but enough to keep you moving. The voice of the GPS announced that you had reached your destination a full five minutes before, yet you remained in your car trying to muster the courage to walk inside.
You had moved to open the door several times, but you could not keep your hand steady enough to grip the latch. It was a miracle you made it there at all. The glass and metal doors of the police station were less than 200 feet from you. Given your location it was not a terribly busy place. Which was exactly what you needed. You had driven an hour to get here. Hoping and praying that it was far enough away that you could get the help you needed to escape.
After a few more minutes of mustering up courage and shaking off the feeling of eyes following you, you finally pulled the handle on the door. It opened farther than it should have considering you had only popped the latch and put no real weight into opening it.
It only took a moment for your mind to register the long fingers curving around the frame, knuckles white in their grip. The rest of him filled your view. First his black loafers shined to perfection, pressed charcoal grey trousers came next as your eyes traveled up the length of him, before his black wool coat came into view, your head whipped up the rest of the way. You barely registered the suit jacket and navy button down exposed beneath his open coat.
Fearful brown eyes clashed with icy blue that were cold with fury.
‘No! No! No! No!’ You mentally chanted, and felt the distinct stinging at the back of your eyes. You scanned the parking lot wondering if you could make a run for it. It was of no use. A sleek black town car was parked behind yours.
Henry must have registered your debate on fleeing and all but growled “Just get in the car.” Your eyes returned to his, and you could not stop the tears from flowing. You were so close, so remarkably close, and it was ripped away from you. Within seconds your shoulders were shaking, and you were sucking in air trying to keep from howling with the loss of your chance at freedom.
You heard Henry release a sigh, and then he said in a softened tone “Come get in the car, darling. We can talk about this at home.”
That car was the last place you wanted to be. That car would take you right back to the lie you were desperately trying to detangle yourself from. Henry leaned into the car, and unfastened your seatbelt before drawing you from the driver seat. Steven, one of the members of his security detail, caught your eye for a moment his gaze was sympathetic, and he gave a barely perceptible nod to Henry before taking your spot in the driver seat. He was complicit, they all were. They knew and would do nothing to help you.
Henry’s hand was on your back, scalding where it touched you. You wanted to worm away from it, but it stayed gentle guiding you to the black sedan. The blacked-out windows of the backside passenger door reflected the sad sight you were. Your eyes were puffy, and your make-up streaked with tear tracks. More urging from Henry had you sliding into the backseat.
#
It was the quiet snapping of the peas in your hands that called your mind back to the present. The smell of the bangers and onion was mixing with the aroma of the biscuits baking in the oven. This was your normal M.O., blending your cultures, and likes together. He loved those biscuits. It was a recipe taught to you by your grandmother. Shown to you with patience in the happy warmth of her kitchen and dulcet tones of her voice. You missed that time. Missed that place. You longed to be home, back in the states surrounded by the safety and protection of your family.
That wasn’t a possibility. You knew that without a shadow of a doubt now.
The food at this point was all but done. You left it warming in the oven while you set the table for two. The six chimes of the grandfather clock from the foyer let you know that Henry would be home in the next fifteen minutes.
You looked down at the porcelain plates, their elegant waving pattern with gold trim. They screamed affluence, privilege, and old money. You wanted to hurl them to the ground, pull the ivory white tablecloth to the ground and send the flatware skidding across the floor.
You must have stood there fantasizing for a long while, because you heard Henry calling your name, and announcing his arrival. He strode into the dining room, and the air immediately charged with tension.
The doorway realistically was wide enough to accommodate two people side by side, but Henry always took up more room than he should. The weightiness of his presence filled the space between you in a suffocating manner.
Four days ago, you would have easily returned the smile that he offered. You could feel the wrongness in your own. The muscles in your face ticked up uneasily when they attempted to remember how to move.
He winced but the smile easily returned to his. Liar. “You look beautiful.” He said and closed the space between you. He was close enough that you could feel the heat from his body warming your face and the smell of his cologne filled your nostrils. Even with the knowledge you had now of who he truly was, you still craved him. Craved this.
You sighed and could not help but lean into him. You felt the familiar pressure of his mouth against the top of your head, and you let your arms wrap around him, squeezing gently. You would allow yourself this small pleasure. His arms wrapped around you in the same way yours had him.
You felt his voice rumble in his chest when the words hit your ears. “We’ll get through this. Now that you know, it will be so much easier between us.” He paused and you could see he debated on if he should say the next words. “Everything I do.” He paused again. “Have done, was to protect you, keep you safe.”
It was the same thing he had said that night you found that all your text messages and emails were being shadowed onto his phone. Seeing that had solidified something you feared was happening throughout the course of your relationship. The nail in the coffin had been him showing up at the police station. That day the wool had been completely and irrevocably stripped from your eyes. The tracker on your car made it clear that his money was put towards more than helping your complete your master’s degree. What scared you the most was the realization of how isolated you were. Time zones away from your family, a long drive from your friends, and without a job you were dependent on Henry. He knew it. He wanted it that way.
“I understand.” You said looking up to meet his eyes, and you did understand. He believed what he said which is why you had to finish this tonight. You patted his chest and said, “Why don’t you get washed up for dinner and I’ll finish setting the table.” He flashed that brilliant smile again and pecked you on the lips.
#
You were going to miss that smile. Henry was very free with it tonight. It had been coming easier since he no longer had to hide the duality of his nature. Yours on the other hand had all but vanished. “It looks delicious.” Henry said and helped push your chair in before sitting himself down. “Are those your grandmother’s biscuits?”
You nodded and motioned to his plate. “Dig in.” And dig in he did. You wondered how many bites it would take before he started to notice something was off.
In three short bites Henry looked up at you and asked, “Did you do something different with the gravy?”
You answered pleasantly “I did. Do you like it?” Your tone held something that should have sounded like a smile but was too icy. “I took something from the garden that I thought might add a little something extra.”
He hadn’t stopped eating while you spoke. He was maybe five or six bites in before a light sheen broke out across his forehead. You watched him and took small bites of your own food. At first it was the shake of his head.
“Is it spicier than normal?” He asked and you looked up to see his cheeks were tinged pink.
“No.” You answered with a subtle shake of your own head. “Shouldn’t be.” Followed by a bite from your own plate.
His only answer after that had been a hum of acceptance. Not a solid two minutes later he started coughing, and you started talking.
“I just want you to know that I understand. I understand that you would never let me go.” Henry’s eyes snapped to your face while he pulled at the tie around his neck desperately searching for reprieve of the coughing fit, he was experiencing.
With a heavy sigh you continued “I just hope you can understand that I could never accept that.” Your head shook no, and your grip tightened on your fork. “This isn’t normal, Henry. It’s not normal to alienate the woman you love from the world and keep her locked away.” Your eyes never moved from his red face. Your eyes saddened hearing him gasp for air and seeing the veins in his neck and forehead protrude as he fought to catch his breath. “This was my only way to be free.” You finished on a whisper, quieting as Henry quieted opposite you at the table.
The plate of food in front of you blurred. The meal really was delicious, you didn’t want anything less for what you anticipated to be your last. You were amazed at your own resolve to carry through with the plan. You set calmly and ate large forkfuls of the bangers making sure to scoop up enough gravy.
You soon followed suit with Henry. Your skin felt flush, your breathing becoming labored followed by the strong urge to cough.

When Leo left Bunker 9 to take a (long overdue) break from his current projects, he didn’t expect to almost trip over someone lying under a tree. He had begun walking to the dining pavilion as usual, when the smell of wild violets engulfed him in a passing breeze. He slowed down a little, taking in the beautiful August morning, and felt his mental to do lists melting away. Time seemed to slow down as he looked up at the sunlight glinting through the trees, his eyes falling on a cloud he decided looked like a giraffe in a suit. The sight made him laugh softly. Gods, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d gone cloud watching. Sun broke through the trees, and he looked down at a bush with little red berries as warm tingles danced over his skin. Light bells rang in the distance, and he looked around for the source. He stopped, eyes falling on a small inchworm.
“Hey little guy,” he said softly, waving to the insect. He smiled to himself again, noticing the large patch of clovers he was passing through, a strong sense of peace settling through him. His eyes instantly began scanning the patch, debating being a little more late to breakfast to see if he could find a four leaf clover, when he tripped over a foot, and narrowly avoided stepping on a few innocent mushrooms growing in the ground. He felt himself get snapped out of the relaxed cloud that had engulfed him moments before. He caught himself, and looked down. Gods, who would nap this deep in the forest? He was about to nudge you awake, when he saw you. He staggered back a step, breath catching in his throat.
You were laying on your side, eyes closed, soft lips parted gently. Mid morning sunlight glinted off your hair and skin, giving off a surreal glowy effect. Your white flowy pajamas had dirt smudged on the hem, one of the straps beginning to slip down your shoulder. The light weight material fell around your legs and spilled onto the ground like sea foam reaching for the shore. A butterfly sat on your head, tranquilly opening and closing its wings. He took a few more steps, careful not to step on the mushrooms that seemed to surround you, but stopped dead in his tracks when he saw your back. Caterpillars had spun silk all over your upper back, connecting to the tree. He felt like he should do something, but before he could begin to think of what, three crows started cawing from the branches of the tree. He walked back over to see if the harsh noise had woken you, but you didn’t seem to move. He let out a sigh of relief a little too soon, as he watched your eyes flutter open.
You took in a deep breath of forest air, and your eyes opened, trying to take in your surroundings. Your head spun with violins and harps and flutes, and your body felt heavy. Sense crept in and you tried to piece together how you’d gotten here. What had happened last night? You struggled with gaps in your memory for a moment, before trying to get up. Your palm slipped on a patch of moss, and you caught yourself on your elbow. In an instant, someone was right beside you, helping you off the ground. He was beautiful; like a beam of light, he seemed to fill you with warmth and life instantly. He smelled like woodsmoke, and his touch was gentle on your arm. You became aware of a very dull, almost soft burn on your upper back, but your attention turned back to the boy as he started talking.
“Are you okay?” his voice was like the crackle of a bonfire.
“Uh,” disorientation was still fogging your mind, “yeah, I think so.” He helped you into a standing position, a hand in yours, the other still on your arm. You felt stiff and sore enough to wonder what you had been doing.
“How did you get out here?” he asked, his tone a distinct blend of amusement and confusion.
“I don’t know… I probably just-” memories flooded back; moonlight caressing your skin, beautiful music you couldn’t quite remember, fireflies guiding your arms and legs as you danced and danced and danced, drunk on the movement. You shook your head, snapping out of the sudden train of thought.
“Um, probably just wandered here by mistake.” you finished the half truth with a laugh, “My apologies,” you continued, “is this your property? I can leave, I didn’t mean to intrude,” He looked at you for another moment before speaking again.
“Oh, no, nothing like that. We usually don’t get a lot of… visitors. I’m-” You felt some kind of rush building up inside, like what a venus flytrap feels as a beetle is about to land.
“I'm y/n," you cut him off suddenly, pulling away, and the feeling immediately began to subside. You waited in near silence for a moment, then chose your words carefully.
"What do you like to be called?"
"Leo…"
You turned a little on your heels, wondering what had come over you as his voice trailed off. He stared behind you for some time, let out a soft oh, then tore his eyes away and back to you.
“There’s someone you should meet,” you agreed, slightly confused, and he began to guide you through the forest. After a few minutes he brought you out to an open field. He left your side for a minute to tell a passerby something about sending someone over, you couldn't be sure, then continued leading you over the grassy expanse. You went past a very old looking building, over a small footbridge, and onto the porch of a house.
“So…” you started, unsure where the sentence was going, “who is it that I’m supposed to meet?” The burning on your back had subsided to a pleasant tingle right by your shoulder blades. A breeze brushed your cheeks, and you could smell strawberries - lots and lots of strawberries. The idea excited you.
“The director of this camp. He should be able to explain -” his eyes hovered just behind you again, “everything.” You wished he would talk more, you loved the lilt of his voice. You wondered what this director would need to clear up, your eyes falling on a scatter of rainbows cast on the floorboards of the porch. You tried to turn to see what was making them, maybe a hummingbird feeder or a light catcher - you’ve always loved stained glass - but when you began to spin on the balls of your feet like you’d done a thousand times before, there was a strange resistance. You spun slower on the wood, and lost momentum. In an effort to catch yourself, your foot caught on the leg of a patio chair, and you knew you wouldn’t be able to stop the fall. The spike of adrenaline made your back burn more, and you braced yourself for impact. An impact that didn’t come.
This didn’t make sense. You should have been falling; you were barely touching the ground. Instead, you were suspended midair. You opened your eyes to your outstretched arms, and glanced down curiously. You were pitched forward, one foot barely making contact with the wooden floor, the other tucked behind it, frozen mid fall. Shifting rainbows and prisms seemed to light up the whole floor now. You became aware of the strange wind rushing around your face and hair, and saw Leo staring behind you again, with that odd, fascinated look on his face. You looked behind you and let out a startled gasp.
Wings.
Big, beautiful, iridescent wings that looked sort of like you had stolen them from a dragonfly fluttered behind you keeping you in place. Your arms fell and you straightened up, feet gently making contact with the ground as your wings slowed to a stop.
“Ah, hello,” came a man's voice from behind you, “I haven’t met someone as special as you in a long time. Please, come inside if you’d like.” He ascended the stairs. You felt like you should have been more surprised to see he had the bottom half of a horse, but it didn’t seem to phase you. Then again, you weren’t one to judge.
“Just one moment,” Chiron said, pulling Leo aside, and once out of earshot, explained the significance of you and your appearance at camp. He took a moment to process this.
“A fairy,” he breathed, mind reeling.
“A changeling from the looks of it. A fairy raised in the human world. They’ll need help navigating this new world, finding out about themself.” Leo nodded, remembering how confusing things were when he was first thrown into a whole other side of his life. He looked through the crack in the door, watching you nibble on a snack cake drizzled in honey. Chiron looked at him watching you, infatuation on his face. He put a hand on Leo’s shoulder.
“They deserve an explanation. Would you like to help with this, er, complicated conversation?” Leo thought back to when you had taken his hand, the way your laugh sounded like bells, the way the corners of your mouth never seemed to drop. The idea of going to the dining pavilion, continuing on with his life as if he’d never met you seemed impossible. He knew in that moment leaving you wasn’t an option.
“Of course.” He answered, more sure in that moment than he had been of anything.

Heyy, I just wanted to say I love your blog🥺 and I was wondering if you can do prompts 52- "I Thought I almost lost you" and 54 "you and me against the world, remember?" For mikey? Mikey x gender neutral reader. Thank you and have an amazing day!!!
Gonna do this tonight and then headcannons i got tommorow because finally things are slowing down and i can take a minute :) hopefully this is good for you guys, sorry it's so short :/
Warnings:Panic attack, blood, being sappy
Every night was usually the same. You'd kiss him bye, give him his snack and send him off on patrol. He'd make some joke about the foot wearing pajamas and be on his merry way with his brothers. Come home at 5:30 a.m. sharp, take a shower and crawl into bed.
It read 6:55 and you were still waiting with your towel and pajamas.
The morning chill ran through the sewers and did not help with taking you off edge. The nervousness that had started in your stomach as a small worry had now grown into a paranoid and fear ridden mess. What made it even worse was when Master Splinter stayed up to wait for the boys and hands wringing as he looked at the first peak of sun shift through the grates over passing tunnels. Multiple times you called Michelangelo but you only got the sound of his cheery voicemail.
"Yo! Im not here at the moment but just leave a message after the sound of the tiny truck backing up!" It never failed to make you laugh but now it was one of the worst things to hear as the images of him of his brothers lying dead in the freezing winter of New York flashed across your mind. Unwillingly taunting you for your uselessness as an aid and how you only provide with them home. With him home.
The clock ticked louder and louder with each second and Master Splinter took to standing at the entrance of the lair listening for his children. You had already prepared the first aid kit and mending station incase but your nerves wouldn't allow you to sit still.
It was 7:15 by the time you heard the familiar groans of the pipes notifying someone's return. But noone shouted victories nor did Mikey call out tricks on his skateboard. Instead the first thing you heard was Leo's voice booming, a leader giving directions.
"Don first thing You need to do is get the station set-up! Raph careful with his side! C'mon Mike you need to stay awake!"
All four brothers rushed in all at once, the quite now broken with Raphael talking to Don mumbling and leo urging his brothers to pick up speed. They had all looked worse for wear but at the first sight of Michelangelo you gasped.
His side was gashed open all the way from where his shell met his back to cutting two inches through his plastron. He was pale and clenching his eyes shut, lip inbetween teeth as Raphael laid him out to be examined. Blood trailed a path leading from the entrance across to the bed, staining the huge area carpet and concrete.
"Mikey?" You had called for him out of instinct and your voice sounded faint, broken into pieces. Somehow around all the squabbling though he opened his eyes and met them with yours and dispte the state he was in he gave a watery smile and his eyes started to look glossy.
"It's okay baby, I'm okay, it isn't bad please don't cry! Don't-" his words are cut off by Donatello shutting the screen around them and even in pain the first thing Michelangelo does is comfort you. The extent his empathic abilities take him is astronomical but despite his words being reassuring His struggle for breath and strained voice crying has you clasping your ears. The world around you looks fuzzy but inside you feel constricted and all you can do is make out the shape of Raph and His father running to catch you as feel yourself fall. Your chest stuttering and heart hammering in your ears as you're moved and held in someones arms, back pressed against someone's chest. A tired but firm voice reaches you beneath your hazardous breaths, guiding you to a calmer state.
"Breath in. Breathe out. Feel my chest y/n, breathe with me. We're one and we feel the air fill our lungs" Your vision is the first to clear and then your body untenses. The palm of your hands have been scratched by your nails and now you can see that Leonardo is on the floor with you, a big hand pressed to your chest and another on your leg as he continues to breathe with you.
Everything is quiter now that you've calmed down and even though you feel your exhaustion take you to sleep you still ask
"What about Mikey?"
------
You bolt upright, sweaty and horrified as you relive the nightmare of Michelangelo's body and voice. The way his eyes reached your's and his form shook, The fear deep inside you that had become true. Everything was dark and quite but you heard the mumble of voices through the pannels and curtains. The distinct sound of Mikey's voice had you scrambling out of your shared bed and rushing into Don's lab. Your adrupt appearence had both younger brothers turn their heads to look at you. Michelangelo was still layed out but what was a horrible gash was now a clean, bandaged side and his face was more relaxed and his body did not shake. Donatello was the first to speak albeit awkwardly.
"He's far more stabilized now and he won't need another change till the next hour or so. I'm gonna head to bed but you guys can talk for a bit" with that he picks up his notebook and phone, already heading off. Mikey, never having took his eyes off of you, speaks
"You okay angelcakes?" Your eyes widen at his question
"Am i okay? Babey you were the one who came in hacked up, i should be asking you the very same thing" he opens his mouth, a joke ready but you cut him off, "I-I mean, what am i supposed to say? I was the one sitting down here waiting for you scared out of my shit and doing nothing. I had no idea what was happening out there and I wasn't there to protect you!" You're face feels flushed and eyes teary, "You could've died, all of you! And I wouldn't have known because I'm sotting my stupid ass down here! Wondering the worst!" You take a deep breath, "I thought I almsot lost you..."
Looking back up to meet his face you realized you're both crying and on instinct you go to wrap your arms around his neck, careful of his side. Michelangelo's face is burried in your neck, already you feel his tears in your hair and shirt. His voice is muffled but you hear him
"I know you feel like you can't do much Y/n but just you being here ready for me is enough. Knowing that even if I'm bloodied up or fighting for life, you staying up to wait on me is enough. This isn't gonna be the last time this happens but it's you and me against the world, remember? That's what we promised eachother. We keep promises now don't we?" You're nodding is answer enough for him as he kisses your ear and pets the back of your head
"I love you babey, okay?" You pull back, face to face with him as you try to pull a smile for him.
''Yeah, I love you too''

—CHAPTER FOUR: decisions
pairing: Obi-Wan Kenobi x reader
previous part | next part | masterlist
a/n: it’s been a long wait for this heartbreak, I know I know, thank y’all for waiting and for being as lovely as ever. I hope you enjoy this angst, I can promise more to follow, as always, and eventually some soft fluff, I promise :)))))
(also, fair warning, I didn’t do a final read through like I normally do, so I apologize for any errors, I just wanted to post it lol)
Drip. Drip. Drip.
His head was swirling with thoughts the same way the ribbons of blood that dripped off his hands swirled into what used to be clean water sitting in the wooden bowl before him. Every time he thought he was getting past it, the brutal and violent images came coursing through his mind again. The memories were tormenting his mind and no matter what he tried, much like the blood on his hands, he couldn’t scrub it away.
At first, he thought it was just his own guilt that was bubbling through him, making him see Cody’s unconscious form laid out on the floor of battle while the fresh faced recruits fended off the invaders. It was his blood which marred Obi-Wan’s hands after all, it was his blood that was impossible to wash away...
But then another round of violent images entered his mind, much less real yet much more painful.
He saw you at the hands of the invaders, he saw your blood covering the walls, he saw you dead in his hands and though he knew it wasn’t real, he couldn't help but be overwhelmed with one strong feeling. The feeling that it was all his fault.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
He knew it wasn’t real. He knew that the invaders were stopped right there on the East Wall, not making it more than two feet past the royal defenses. He knew him and his men were there to stop them before you were under any real threat and he knew that Cody was slated to make a full recovery but...
But it all felt real as it flashed through his mind.
You were dead in his arms and it was all his fault.
Maybe he knew it wasn’t real but maybe it didn’t matter. If it wasn’t real yet, maybe it would be real soon if he wasn’t careful and that was something he couldn’t take his chances with.
The images his mind conjured out of his guilt alone was wrecking him to his core and they weren’t even real, the mere idea that one day it could be was enough to solidify one single thought in his mind.
He had to protect you, no matter the cost.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
The cost...
He knew exactly what the cost would be and it made him sick inside to even consider it. But as he looked out the small window of his bathroom and saw the early light of morning beginning to light the sky, all he could think of was where you had been last night.
You had been here, in his quarters, away from the guards who stood outside your room, away from every measure of protection he had enacted to keep you safe... you were with him and vulnerable while invaders raided the East Wall. He had been too stupid to realize it the moment, too drunk on the taste of your lips, too blinded by the beautiful image of you cast in the shadows of his desk candlelight, but it was all he could see now as he continued to watch Cody’s blood drip off his hands and into the bowl.
That vulnerability was because of him.
The absolute last thing in the galaxy that he wanted to do was to cut off the intimate tie to you that he had barely begun forming, but he needed to keep you safe. No matter how much it hurt him, no matter how much it hurt you... He needed to protect you.
No matter the cost.
With a splash, he plunged his hands into the wooden bowl, furiously scrubbing until his hands were clean and the remaining water was filthy with the blood that no longer coated his hands. And now, instead of the grueling memories of Cody on the ground, blood pouring from the slice across his chest, or the fatal conjured images of you in a similar position, his head was filled strategies and procedures.
He’d have to up your protective detail. It could no longer be just him and the occasional watching eyes of the palace guard, there would need to be someone alongside you at all times. Maybe even more than one someone, maybe even more than two.
There would always have to be guards around your room, you wouldn’t be able to wander alone in the gardens, you wouldn’t be able to slip away anymore--
“General Kenobi?” A careful voice sounded from the other side of his door, accompanying a few knocks that increased in urgency until he made his way to the door.
And once he opened it, he found his young recruit Anakin on the other side. “Yes?”
“The Princess has been asking for you...” he continued, almost out of breath, “repeatedly...”
The time for planning was over. Now he’d have to break the news to you. Stars, his heart was surging with pain in his chest, an overwhelming pain as he offered Anakin a brief nod. “You can tell her that I’ll be up in a moment.”
“No offense, General, but I don’t think she’ll want to wait.”
No. Of course not. Obi-Wan huffed, giving Anakin another nod before moving to grab his sword, strap it to his hip and leave his room.
And stair after stair that he climbed to bring himself to your room, he reminded himself that this was the only way to keep you safe. No matter how much you resented him for it, no matter how much you fought against it... he was doing it to protect you.
Having you alive was better than dead, whether you were alive and hated him or not.
As he nodded to the two guards he had stationed at your door, they quickly knocked and opened the door for him. Once he was through it, they shut it behind him but there was no sight of you in your living area, just the first rays of morning bleeding in through the exquisite curtains that blocked your windows.
He glanced around for you, careful to stay in your entry way, knowing what moving farther in would mean, but he still couldn’t see you anywhere.
“Your highness?” He called out carefully, keeping his hands locked behind his back as he waited anxiously.
And just as he moved to call out again after receiving no response, he was interrupted by the distinct sounds of your eager footsteps bounding out of your bedroom. Within seconds, he spotted you running towards him, and before he had time enough to brace himself for impact, you were colliding with him, knocking him back a few steps as your arms wrapped tight around his neck.
“Your highness...” he tried but you quickly brought your hands to his face and brought his lips to yours. Any words he considered saying were whisked away with the desperate kiss you delivered.
He knew what he needed to do, he repeated it a thousand times over in his head, but as he felt your lips on his, it melted away.
Your touch was too warm, it was too comfortable...
He kissed you back, wrapping his hands delicately around the back of your neck to hold you as close as you were holding him. But as he tasted the distinct flavor of tears on his lips, he snapped back to the all too harsh reality of the moment.
Ever so gently, he reached his hands to yours and slowly pulled them from his face while he hesitantly drew his lips back from yours. As your eyes pried themselves open with the same level of hesitation he exhibited, your face twisted into a quick confusion. “Obi-Wan... what’s wrong?”
He kept his grip on your hands until he had them successfully pulled from him, then he released them, establishing the first bit of distance from you that he needed if he was going to do this properly.
But your concern only grew, “Obi, what is it, what’s wrong?”
“Your highness, nothing is wrong.” He sighed, carefully drawing his stare to meet yours and feeling his heart break the second he saw the tears streaming down your cheeks.
“Something is wrong, what is it, has something changed in Commander Cody’s condition, is he--”
“No, your highness, he will still make a full recovery.”
You confusion continued to grow as you reached out for him, still concerned, only to have him take a step back away from your touch. “Obi, please...”
Summoning all of the respect and professionalism he could muster, he began building the defensive wall he would need if he was to keep you safe. Not one between the two of you and the rest of the world, but one between him and you.
It was the only way.
“The breach tonight, at the East Wall, has illuminated some flaws within our system of protecting you and we’ll be making some changes,” he began easily but the weight of your pained and tear-stricken stare was heavy on his chest, making it harder and harder to breath. Letting out a shuddering breath, he continued, “I’m going to be increasing your protective detail and limiting your exposure--”
“Obi-Wan--”
He couldn’t let you interrupt him. If he didn’t get it all out now, he feared he’d choke on his words and lose them in his throat for good. “It’ll be a team of my best men, they will keep you safe--”
Though, you seemed to have a similar hasty motivation because you cut him off again before he could finish.
“You keep me safe, Obi, you always have.” You took another step forward, the last hopeful venture you could manage because as he stepped back from you, it became the last move you could make towards him. Your heart became all too heavy...
“Things have changed.” He said quickly and evenly for the first time that morning, but as he continued with his plan and your face twisted again, his voice grew rugged again. “It’ll be a constant watch and you’ll be limited in where you can go, specifically, I’d like you to stay within the palace walls at all time--”
“Within the palace walls?” You scoffed, taking a step back from him this time instead of the other way around as everything began to make sense to you. “You want to lock me in the palace? Take away the few freedoms I have, like wandering gardens. Put me under constant watch... Will I be allowed to do anything at all?”
“This is for your protection, your highness--” He quickly attempted to fight but as your anger began to bubble within you, you had no desire to listen to him.
“Have you not kept me safe all this time? Is there something here that I’m missing, Obi-Wan? This doesn’t make any sense, why--”
“Because of tonight!”
As you had argued with him, you had taken steps closer to him, gotten further into his face with your frustration and confusion but the second he snapped back at you, you stuttered where you stood. You knew he would never hurt you, you knew his snap was only out of the same frustration that fueled you, but you still stuttered, taking a half-step back and away from him.
His whole demeanor shifted the second he saw you step away from him, any hint of anger washed away and the broken heart beneath it all began to shine through. “Your highness, please allow me to apologize--”
You waved your hand at that, then wrapped both your arms around your chest, shutting yourself off from him. As if his heart needed further breaking.
“Tonight... you mean when I kissed you?” You asked, carefully lifting your stare to his again. “Or you mean with the incursion... exactly what about tonight changed everything?”
He opened his mouth, feeling a response on his tongue but as he watched the morning sunlight cast shadows over your face the same way the candle light had lit you up last night as he held you in his arms, any response washed away.
So you continued, taking a hesitant step forward. “Obi-Wan, what is it?”
“I’m too close...” he sighed, no longer able to hold your stare. “You slipped from your room to see me as men jumped the palace wall to kill you and I didn’t send you back. You are at your most vulnerable when you’re wandering the gardens alone and yet I let you because I like seeing your smile in the sunlight. I let you slip from the palace protection to see the sunset because I want to see you happy but I can’t do that anymore.”
All you could do was swallow as he spoke, trying to maintain your composure even as you could feel your heart breaking in your chest. You wanted nothing more than to step towards him, to hold him as his voice trembled, and to find the same comfort in him that you wanted to give to him but you were frozen where you stood.
So he continued. “I’m too close, your highness, and, if I want to keep you safe, I can’t be this close.”
Your silence remained, so he spoke again.
“I have to protect you, no matter the cost.”
There was nothing to say, nothing you could do. You could see it in his eyes that it would be impossible to change his mind, and that was the last wound he could deliver. Each and every word he spoke broke you into a thousand pieces, shattering every inch of you...
A few seconds later and the heartbreak was replaced with anger again.
“Get out.”
His stare snapped back to yours as your harsh words hit him square in the chest. “Your highness--” He tried carefully but you weren’t having it.
“Get out.” You repeated, holding your arms tight around yourself and taking a step back from him.
Yet, again he tried your title on his tongue, not sure what he hoped to accomplish as he did, but did it again anyways. “Your highness--”
And again, you repeated yourself, though this time, you opened the door to ensure he didn’t misinterpret your tone. “Get out, General.”
With a nod of his head, he easily complied, slipping past you and out the door. But he barely made it two steps away before he felt a tear of his own slip out of his eye and trail down his cheek. His gloved hand reached up to wipe it away quickly but ultimately, it didn’t matter how many he wiped away, more kept flowing.
And as you pressed your back to the door of your room, after a couple of unsuccessful deep breaths, you found yourself afflicted by the same.
Tear after tear. Tear after tear.
It didn’t make it hurt any less. Even if you both knew, deep down, that maybe it was for the best.

Tired of Being a Fighter - PART ONE
Pairing: Axe Woves x F!Reader (no actual pairing in this first part!)
Word Count: 1.6k
Warnings: Violence, death.
Summary: Bo-Katan has become a woman obsessed with taking back the Dark Saber and will stop at nothing to reclaim it. Things come to a head, violently, one night, and Axe makes the difficult decision to leave her service. Left with no path and no oath to honor, he is unsure of what to do with his life until a fateful trip to Nevarro...
A/N: Did I write this to explain why he was absent in the finale? Maybe. Did I have to desperately try not to write with a bar as a setting?? Also maybe. Enjoy.
This will likely be like a three or four parter 😬
----
The night was cold on Lothal, and the streets were bustling with those returning home from their jobs at the local factories and warehouses. From his rooftop position, Axe could see the building he had been assigned to watch- waiting for their target to enter so that he could signal the other Nite Owls to begin the assault. In the alley below, a figure moved through the shadows and approached the large warehouse door before rapping, loudly, four times in a distinct rhythm.
Axe trained his night vision on the figure- a Rodian, eyes nervous and darting as if he expected to be attacked at any moment. Axe tapped his comm unit on and hailed Bo-Katan.
“Target is here. Looks nervous-”
The door opened with a pneumatic hiss and the Rodian entered a dimly-lit room. Axe could make out at least three figures inside before the door shut and the sound of jetpacks rumbled behind him. Bo-Katan and Koska landed softly on the rooftop, their armored boots surprisingly soft on the concrete.
“Where is he?” Bo-Katan’s voice crackled through her vocoder, impatient and full of venom as usual.
“Inside,” Axe had grown accustomed to her vitriol, “At least three others in there with him.”
There was silence for a moment before Bo-Katan spoke again.
“We’ll blow the door open, take them by surprise. Keep the Rodian alive, but kill the others.”
There was no point in arguing with her, Axe knew that by now. In her quest for Moff Gideon and the Dark Saber he carried, she had become reckless and gripped with an all-consuming rage. Since they had taken down the Imp cruiser on Trask, the missions had become more dangerous; Axe found himself patching wounds and repairing his armor more often than he liked.
But Bo-Katan pushed them harder each time.
Axe knew tonight would be no different. He hardly had time to think of the possibilities as his two companions leapt from the rooftop and jetted down to the alleyway. Axe landed behind them as Koska placed an explosive charge on the door and set the timer for ten seconds. As she hit the igniter, the three of them jogged for cover behind the opposite building. The beeps of the charge grew more rapid and Axe braced himself; there was a half a second’s pause, then the door erupted into pieces with a bang that shook the street.
“MOVE!” Bo-Katan gestured to the door and they moved quickly, drawing their blasters and engaging their thermal visors. Through the smoke, Axe could see four figures huddled near the center of the room, and one on the floor closer to the door. A blaster shot clipped through the smoke, narrowly missing Axe’s helmet, and he dove for cover behind a shipping crate as his companions followed suit. The haze began to clear and Axe glanced down at the figure on the floor- a human, dressed in the clothes of a warehouse worker, emblazoned with the Torrent Industries logo. A civilian.
“Shit-” Axe muttered under his breath before reaching out to grab the civilian by his boot and drag him behind the cover. He was still breathing- likely knocked unconscious by the blast.
“What the hell are you doing?” Bo-Katan screamed from her cover, blaster fire singeing the wall opposite her as their targets continued to fire on them.
“It’s a civilian!” Axe shot back, pausing to lean out from behind the shipping crate and return fire at the figures now visible through the fading smoke. One of the figures let out a yelp and fell to the concrete floor with a thud.
Axe silently prayed that he hadn’t just shot the Rodian.
“I’m moving out-” Bo-Katan moved, crouched, from her cover with Koska in tow. Axe engaged his jetpack and lurched forward, bursting into a jetted sprint. The smoke had cleared and he could see the Rodian now, crouched near a starship turbine.
“I’ve got the target!” Axe lifted from the ground with a leap and tackled the Rodian to the floor as Koska and Bo-Katan engaged the other three. He stood up and drug the target to his feet, producing a pair of stun cuffs and latching them to the trembling Rodian’s wrists. The last assailant fell to the floor with a strangled grunt and Bo-Katan turned her attention to Axe and his captive.
“Please-” the Rodian’s voice was brimming with fear, “Whatever you want-”
The butt of Bo-Katan’s blaster caught him in the jaw and sent him crumpling to the floor with a cry of pain.
“You know why I’m here, aruetii,” her voice was barely more than a whisper, filled with seething hate, "you helped to secure arms for the Empire."
Axe reached down and hauled the Rodian up by his jacket, planting him on his unsteady feet.
"I know you worked with Moff Gideon. And you will tell me where to find him." Bo-Katan moved closer to the trembling quarry as she spoke, her black visor trained, unwavering, on his face.
The Rodian let out a humorless chuckle, "You think I'd betray the Moff? Do you have any idea what he would do to me?"
Bo-Katan took another step forward and unsheathed her vibroblade, moving to hold it under his chin.
"It's nothing compared to what I will do to you," she tilted her helmeted head slightly, as though analyzing him, "have you ever seen a heated vibroblade at work?"
Bo-Katan ignited the blade and the Rodian's eyes flicked to it, nervously, as it began to thrumm and grow hot.
"A skilled Mandalorian could dismember their quarries entirely-" the blade glowed, ember-hot, in her grasp, "without letting them die."
The Rodian began to tremble at her words, and Axe tightened the grip on his jacket in case his legs gave out.
"The beauty of a vibroblade is that it cauterizes the wound as it makes it." Bo-Katan's visor was just inches from the Rodian's face, "So you won't bleed out before I finish."
She turned her visor to Axe, "Woves, hold him down." Axe obeyed without hesitation, moving to pin the Rodian on a nearby workbench.
"Wait-" the Rodian's voice was a strangled cry, tinged with hysterical fear, "I'll tell you!"
A chuckle cracked through Bo-Katan's vocoder and she sheathed the vibroblade. "I knew you would see reason. Now tell me-" she grabbed the Rodian by the front of his jacket and pulled him to his feet, "where is Moff Gideon?"
The Rodian produced a datapad from his jacket pocket and with the press of a button, a holo-projection of the planet became visible. "Here-" he used his fingers to zoom to a set of coordinates on the northernmost sector, "They have a hidden base built into the mountainside. Some kind of weapons lab. Lots of troopers and an AA gun on the roof."
"You made the right choice," Bo-Katan unholstered her blaster as the Rodian's eyes flicked between the three of them.
"I can go now, right?" His voice shook, but held a tinge of hope, "I mean, you got everything you w-"
The blaster shot hit the Rodian's chest point-blank and he dropped to the floor in a heap.
Bo-Katan retrieved the datapad from the floor as the smell of singed flesh filled the room. "We have our location. Let's go-" her words were cut short by a rustling sound from the front of the warehouse. The civilian was on his feet and moving toward them.
Bo-Katan drew her blaster and the civilian raised his hands to show he wasn't hostile. "He's a civilian- wearing a Torrent jumpsuit." Axe put a hand on her blaster, attempting to lower it, but she didn't budge. "I said he's a civilian-, Kryze," Axe raised his voice slightly as the worker froze in place, his arms still raised above his head.
"How do we know he wasn't part of this?" Bo-Katan's voice was steady- cold and calculating.
"I'm just a warehouse worker!" The civilian cried, "I worked late tonight- I had no idea what was happening. When the door blew it knocked me out and-" before Axe could stop her, Bo-Katan fired her blaster, striking the worker in the chest and sending him to the floor with a strangled cry.
"Haar'chak!" Axe cried out before he could stop himself, "He was a civilian! He was surrendering!"
Bo-Katan shrugged and holstered her blaster, "One less loose end."
"No-" Axe moved in front of her, anger burning hot in his chest, "You've gone off the deep end, Kryze. When this first started, I was with you. But you've lost your mind!"
Bo-Katan poked a gloved finger into his chest and shoved him backward, "If you're not with me, you're an enemy to Mandalore, Woves." She spat the last words out like a Voxyn spitting venom, and Axe knew she meant them.
"If this is how you plan to rule Mandalore, I want no part of it." Axe pushed her hand aside and moved closer, so his helmet was mere inches from hers, "And don't you dare try to stop me."
"If you do this, you abandon everything we have worked so hard for! You abandon your duty to your fellow Mandalorians!" Her voice was filled with her usual self-righteous fervor, but Axe had heard enough.
"I abandon nothing, Kryze. But you have abandoned reason, and you will pay for it."
Axe pushed past Koska and Bo-Katan and made his way through the doorway into the cold Lothal night.

heyyyy I'm back from the dead😂 can you write joui4 reacting to their crush being injured during the war?
Welcome back!
Gintama Headcanons:
Katsura Kotarou:
His plan failed.
It was supposed to be a simple one: a small, isolated platoon of fifty Amanto foot soldiers versus his company of two hundred strong. An easy win. In the grand scheme of things, the battle was not worth much anyway. But Katsura wanted to give his weary soldiers a victory, no matter how small, something to raise their depleted morale. He was confident that if anyone could conduct such an elementary operation, it would be him-- The Rampaging Noble, one of the Four Heavenly Kings, master tactician and expert swordsman.
This is the classic tale of hubris, told over and over.
The minute victory was assumed, they were instantly surrounded by enemy ships. There was only a single second of startling silence-- his eyes widened and he was running, futilely roaring out a retreat-- before the ships open-fired a blaze of bombs and bullets.
They ran towards the nearby forest, hoping the thicket would cover them. Around him, the men he had laughed and ate with dropped like flies. Two hundred. One Hundred. Fifty.
You were beside him, close to his heel all this time. You had also trusted his plan whole-heartedly. And it’s until he takes cover behind an oak tree, that he stops and realizes that you aren’t next to him any longer.
I don’t have enough words to describe the pure panic that crashes down Katsura’s spine, settling horribly at his feet as he stumbles back in the direction he was fleeing from. His hair is loose from its tie, whipping his face as he runs, jelly legs leaping over branches and bodies. His plan. His men. His failure. And now you.
After agonizing moments of nothing but death, he spots you lying on the ground, injured but alive, a shout of relief in the form of your name erupting from his mouth. He’s looping his arms firmly underneath your arms, whispering apologies into your sweaty hair as you groan and whimper from the sharp pangs of pain in your legs, dragging you along the dirt, away from the line of fire.
Just a few more feet, he pleads. I’m sorry. Please endure the pain a little while longer. He drags you past the fallen. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
Sakamoto Tatsuma:
Even if you do not see him through the smoke and blood, you can hear him.
He is loud. So absolutely fucking loud that it takes no effort to sort through the sounds of steel against steel, the countless grunts of pain mixed in with shouts of adrenaline and fear, and the other noises of battle, to hear the deafening shrills coming from him.
And sometimes, right in the middle of it all, Sakamoto has the audacity to boom out to you with his carrying voice stupid, stupid jokes that has no place on the battlefield. You find yourself responding though, shouting (practically screaming) back on top of your lungs to tell him to shut the fuck up and focus on the fight, and he’s responding with a sorry, sorry! but do you want to hear another one? and you’re telling him no, but he tells you it anyway because he’s a moron.
It’s a back and forth, a full-on conversation of dumbness, as you both fight for your lives. It’s very odd. And very inappropriate. And you should probably stop before one of you gets really distracted, but
you can’t.
Because if you can’t see him, how do you know if he’s still fighting? How do you know that, if he isn’t spouting out something stupid or managing to breathe out that distinctive chortle, he’s alive and breathing?
And on the opposite side, Sakamoto feels the same. He likes the sound of your voice, even if it’s barely drowned out by the wind and straining to reach his ears. He likes it so much that he doesn’t want it to ever stop. So he keeps on yapping as he blocks and attacks the enemy, keeps on yapping as there are stinging gashes on his face and body, keeps on yapping as his muscles scream and beg him to shut the fuck up. He won’t stop. He definitely won’t stop.
Then there is a lull. A quiet within the chaos. He can’t see you, so he shouts out a joke, hoping, dreading. No response. Another joke. No response. Your name. Your name again. There is no response.
Of course you hear him. He’s loud as hell. As impossible as it is, he’s growing louder and louder too. But there’s something warm and sticky running down your temple and the cold ground against your cheek feels too comfortable and you’re suddenly too tired to open your mouth. Your eyes flutter, glowing bleary, and you wonder if it’s okay to take a little nap...
Something shakes your eardrums so hard that you can’t help to startle, staring up at Sakamoto who looks so fucking terrified, his very blue eyes wide and desperate. He’s got you safely tucked in his arms, your head gingerly supported as he pushes his long legs away from the front lines to the medics.
Even in your severe state, he babbles on and on like he always does, keeping you alive with trembling jokes and stuttered gasps of laughter.
Sakata Gintoki:
During battle, he is no longer the dude with unsanitary booger disposal habits, but the white demon with something to protect. The Shiroyasha, you think in awe, gripping the hilt of your sword hard before bringing it up to fend off an Amanto. You can’t afford to keep your gaze on him.
There really are too many enemies. As soon as you strike one down, three more take their fallen comrade’s place. Your muscles ache and your breath is starting to come in as wheezes as you’re driven back by the flurry of attacks.
Your back hits his. A brief moment of support. Getting tired? He sounds so infuriatingly goading. You reposition your legs, forcing your breaths to match with his, before charging forward. As if!
Despite your words, you’re getting dizzier, the smell and heat of battle clouding your sense as your disobedient arms start to shake, no matter how much you urge them to keep on going. The adrenaline is wearing off fast and Gintoki somehow notices it all the way from where he is, barking out your name with a Oi! What are you doing? There’s no time-out! Focus! You’re trying. You’re really trying. You take a step forward but your foot unluckily slips on the soaked ground, and that’s when the pain hits, crimson blooming along the laceration that bisects your chest, the enemy taking advantage of your moment of weakness. Your cracked lips part to cry out, and Gintoki glances back at the sound just in time to see your sword fall and your knees crumple underneath you.
It’s not like the movies or the books. Time doesn’t stop. It keeps on going. It doesn’t care that you’re on the ground, passed out and bleeding heavily, and that there’s an Amanto in front of you, eyes gleeful as it raises its axe high to deliver the final blow.
Time is moving. He’s too far. He won’t make it. He won’t make it. What the hell is he doing? Wasn’t he here to protect what he held dear? Move. Move. Time is moving and it won’t wait for him. If he can’t make it, then his sword will. His hand hurls his weapon, pitching it forth with all his might. It soars and hits the mark, the Amanto falls down, but his job of keeping you alive, protecting you, isn’t over. You’re still unconscious and vulnerable, and there are still other Amanto eager to finish the job.
Gintoki punches and kicks his way through to get to you, his heart palpitating so harshly in his chest that it hurts far more than his cuts and his bruises and anything before in his goddamn life.
Takasugi Shinsuke:
“Get up,” Takasugi hisses, his face pulled into a pinched snarl and his hand bunching the front of your collar. He tugs hard. A red droplet drips down from his cut cheek onto yours. “Get up.” He says again.
Your body can’t comply with his authority. Your shoulder is badly throbbing, fractured maybe. Your hip is definitely dislocated. All your organs and limbs feel wringed out, like an old wet towel. Your legs-- just thinking about them sends every nerve in your body screaming. Everything hurts. When you try to tell Takasugi this, all that comes out is a dry sob.
His eyes widen a fraction before narrowing. He’s never heard you like this. So broken, miserable, and hurting. Your injuries were far worse than he thought. Fuck. He lets go of your collar in favor of pulling your limp arm over his shoulder, ignoring your heart-wrenching groans of pain. His men are holding back the enemy, but just barely. His left arm is injured. He needs you to get up. It doesn’t matter if it’s painful. It doesn’t matter if you’re sobbing for him to let go, please let go, leave me behind. He’s not going to leave you behind.
He’s never said he was a kind man. He’s going to bully you, mock you, use every dirty trick up his sleeve to get you up, to get you to keep on living. Pain is temporary, but you dying is
Takasugi shifts you closer, carrying most of your weight as he slowly moves the both of you. Every strained gasp you make digs deep into him, but he keeps on going.
If you died, it might just rip this unkind man’s heart into pieces.
Takasugi’s part is the shortest because he is the shortest. But damn, Reader really be going through it huh.

Fandom: Apex Legends
Relationship: Bloodhound/Reader
Warnings: R18+/NSFT, Reader’s pronouns are never stated but calling them a ‘sweet boy’ is used, Reader also has a vulva but verbiage is Cock/dick/hole to describe bits and bobs, Bloodhound’s werewolf strap on makes a comeback as always, knotting, spreader bars, primal play, predator/prey, aaaand knife play.
Words: 2.3k
________________
Bloodhound was a soft lover.
Patient, kind, thoughtful, adoring- they never made you feel second best. They spoiled you in their own little ways, they were playful in their teases and how they could chase you playfully around and mock pin you. Leaving you squealing, smiling, and kicking as they playfully gnashed their teeth as if they planned to bite you.
They made you feel loved and domestic. Even when they went away on long trips to the games. You understood that it was their path, that they had a calling from their gods. That you would see them once the season ended and they could return home without paparazzi tailing them. You always watched their games, rooting for them from home. But otherwise you tended to your little cottage- perhaps old fashioned, but it is what they liked.
Whenever they could come home, they were always pent up. You never asked Bloodhound the obvious question of ‘do you masturbate when you’re away’ but you figured the answer was no. Considering how hungry they always were. It was like clockwork when they were home, if you were up to it of course. They were always polite even if they were breathy and near humping your leg, asking if you wanted it too.
The little things.
~Rest under the cut~
Now it’s been a week since they’d come home. You’re on edge waiting for it. Bloodhound kept teasing you all week knowing you were practically trained to be horny the minute they came home. You try and swallow it down, breathily replying when they ask you what’s wrong, “Nothing, Hound, nothing at all.” And they’d hum coyly, sliding a hand across your neck and press a kiss to your lips that left you wetter than you’d like to admit.
They were doing it on purpose. Sizing you up. Making you needy. It was working, but even then, you could see their patience almost snap sometimes. Especially when the other night they’d straddled your hips, kissing you deep and rough, marking your neck with their teeth and you’d begged. You’d begged prettier than you’d ever begged in your life, trying to press yourself up against them, whimpering, begging for any sort of friction.
“Be patient, my love, and I shall reward you.” They’d said against your lips, their own breath shaking with hushed restraint. You’d about sobbed, near desperately in tears by the time they licked into your mouth again for another taste.
You’d wished they’d break it, just take you- hell, you wished they’d let you at least touch them to quell your hunger. You wanted to taste their slick on your tongue, wanting to bruise their skin with your teeth and hear them whine-
However, you could be patient.
This time.
By the end of the week, you’re practically dripping at the sound of their voice. It’s a little embarrassing when they so much as ask what you’d like for dinner and you’re squishing your thighs together and trying to come up with an answer. You didn’t take yourself as that needy, but you suppose your body is trained, and you’re getting a little desperate.
But, that’s what they wanted.
Finally, you’re rewarded when they come up to you with a proposition.
It’s as if they waited for you to come downstairs. Watching you with hungry eyes the moment you got close. Their red curls were pulled up into a high, messy ponytail with a singular braid framing the right side of their face with a feather braided in at the end. Their outfit consisting of a black lace bralette, a leather jacket with fur lining the collar and cropped at about their navel, tight black leather pants and boots.
It had been alluring, a trap you suppose as you’d gone towards them to eagerly trace your hands along their exposed waist, but they’d hummed at you instead.
They’re backing you into a wall then, and you swallow hard at the action, immediately feeling small despite their petite stature. Their aura is always dominating as your back hits the wall and they spring on you like a predator. A switch blade in their hand making a distinctive ‘shnk’ sound before it’s pointed at your chin, a smirk to their lips as they watch your mouth part to shakily exhale as your eyes flicker to the shiny blade.
“My little lamb,” They coo out, their full lips gathering your attention briefly and watching their split pierced tongue slide over their lips. Shit. “I wish to chase you tonight. You are familiar with my little game, yes?” Their voice is practically a purr as the blade moves to tip your chin up, making you shamefully try to shut your thighs together. As if they could sense the action, their thigh pressed between yours and your lashes flutter.
“Y-yes-” You finally manage to get out. You knew very well. One of their favorite versions of foreplay and something that set your skin and heart alight. You were familiar with the burn in your lungs, how the backwoods you’d routinely run through could seem so big and terrifying in the nights.
“You know my rules and rewards?”
“Yes.” You repeat, feeling the point of their blade trace down your throat and making you swallow hard. It was simple rules, but the rewards were the highest of stakes: If you managed to hide or run from them successfully for an hour, you got whatever you wanted. And if they caught you? Anything they wanted. In the forest.
“Good,” They murmur, drawing their blade from you and making you realize how close their face is to yours. You strain the need to cup their cheek, eyes flickering down to their mouth as it pulled into a wolfish grin, baring their double set of sharp canines. “Now run.”
And you do. You take off out the front door the second they stop caging you, frantic to abuse the head start they’re offering you.
But, you know in the end who would win.
--
By the time you’re caught, you’ve managed to enter a clearing- which was your mistake thinking you could pause to take a breather. They’d managed to tackle you, wrestling your squirming body and at first you manage to escape. You’d cried out in joy like a deer who broke free from a trap, turned right back around to book it, only to have your ankle snagged and you tugged to the ground.
It’s a blur of mouths, teeth, and how deadly their eyes look in the night. You also remember a blade, trying not to squirm as they cut off your clothes or the sounds of the cloth shredding.
Now? Now you’re on all fours, a spreader bar keeping your thighs far apart. They’ve graciously taken off their jacket to fold under your head so your cheek isn’t pressed into the grass and dirt under you, your arms tied behind your back with rope they’d brought with the bar in a bag that is rested off to the side.
You currently have four fingers inside of your hole. Your cock twitches weakly at the feeling of their split tongue licking over it and occasionally trapping it between them. You sob out when you feel the telltale tightening in your abdomen as you cum, drooling slick into their hand and onto their tongue. The sound of Bloodhound moaning makes your cheeks burn as they lick up all you have to offer.
“You always taste so good, my prey.” They growl out behind you, making your hole contract weakly around their fingers. They twist them, hooking them inside of you and spreading them just a bit to test the resistance of you. When Bloodhound’s fingers pull out, you just about cry until they’re shushing you once more.
You’re wet and lubed up, stretched sloppy for whatever they have planned. But you could take a guess as to what it is when you feel the tapered head of their preferred cock choice brushing against your hole. It’s lubed up as well, and you know exactly which one it is. It’s bright red, themed after a werewolf. It’s seven inches long in total with a knot the size of their fist.
You whimper beneath them; Fingers flexing in your bonds as you hear them growl above you.
“Stay still, little lamb.” Bloodhound growls out when you begin to squirm. Their calloused hands roughly grabbing your hips, pulling your ass up to begin pushing inside. The first inch or two isn’t bad, but once it starts to get thicker and thicker, that’s when you begin to whimper. You’re stretched for the occasion, lubed up so there isn’t any pain, but oh the stretch is always such a tight fit.
Your eyes roll into the back of your head when they start moving. Their thrusts are well timed and deep, the knot slapping against you but not penetrating right away. You sob and cry out beneath them, face feeling hot as your senses are surrounded by them. You hear them grunt behind you, tinging on a whine and you know that they way they’ve angled themself has the cock bouncing back against their clit.
You briefly smile at the thought, thinking about how wet they must be all because of you. You wonder faintly if they’d let you eat them out.
Well, if you’re coherent after this.
Bloodhound’s nails press into your hips, yanking you back against them now with an almost frantic need. It takes a few times, your moans spilling out of you in harsh little whines to match their growls, but they fit the knot inside of you. It pops into you, spreading you wide and making your hips jerk, but both the bar and Bloodhound’s grip keep you afloat.
They don’t even do you the courtesy of keeping it inside and reaching around to jerk you off like they normally do. Instead, Bloodhound chuckles lowly, breathless as they pull it right back out of you just to hear you cry out and whine in dismay.
“I may have you however I please, my love,” They remind you with a low growl echoing in their voice. “You are mine to do with as a I wish. Are you not?”
But before you can reply, they pop the knot back into you again, forcing you wide again and making you scream. “Ah, there you are, bráð mitt. Let me hear you.”
Again and again they force the knot into you. Never giving you a break from the constant stretch until you get close. You’ve got tears running down your cheeks, eyes rolling into the back of your head and your mouth forming words but nothing coming out.
And then they wrap a hand around your throat, pulling you up and onto your knees and against their chest. Bloodhound’s hand is loose around your neck, holding you close to their body and making your own body tremble as they fuck into you. Bloodhound’s other hand comes down, finally giving you mercy of jerking off your engorged, little cock. You sob out, your bound hands splaying across their abdomen behind you and feeling the flex of their muscles there with each thrust.
Their split tongue licks up your neck, surely tasting your sweat before they nip at your ear and snarl in your ear, “Cum for me, my sweet boy. Let your god hear you.”
And you do. Just at the same time they must press the syringe of the cum tube because you can feel one final slam into you to knot you, and the feeling of the sticky cum lube filling you. You’re near about frantic when you cum, your cries an echo off each other until their hand around your throat comes to grab your chin and forcing two fingers into your mouth to press down your tongue. It forces your throat open, each cry partially muffled yet still louder than before.
You’re pretty sure you black out.
--
By the time you come back to life, you find yourself clothed and cleaned. You’re in bed, feeling a hand stroking your hair and massaging your scalp down to your nape. You moan softly, shifting your head to roll a bit to the side and finding yourself with your head in their lap.
Bloodhound looks beautiful at this angle. Their hair is let down, their other hand holding a book that they seem invested in. Their round glasses rest on their nose, but they blink twice when they hear your noise, looking down at you and a fond smile spreading across their face. “Are you quite alright, my love? I was not too harsh on you, was I?”
Their hand moves from your hair, stroking over your cheekbone with the backs of their two knuckles. You can’t help but smile at their worry, reaching up to pull their hand to your face so you may kiss their palm. You note how their cheeks flush at the action and count yourself lucky for such a cute partner.
“Nah,” You get out, your voice hoarse even after you clear your throat. “C’mon, Hound, you’ve done much worse than that. Didn’t even cut me.”
“Ah, but I did bruise you.” They tease, tracing a hand down to one of the various bite marks on your neck with fondness. “Though it appears that when you are needy you can take,” They let their hand trace down your frame then, making your breath hitch as it brushes down your stomach, their fingers teasing your waistband with a coy smirk playing on their lips. “,Much more than we thought.”
Your cheeks flush red, groaning as your head falls back against their lap, burying your face into their thigh. “Don’t get me started again, babe, come on!”
“I would never dream of it, my love.”
Liar, you think, as you sneakily grab a pillow and fling it at their face just to hear them burst into laughter as you tackle them.
You could only hope you made good prey.

wounded // scarred // healed
A deep inhale made you giddy with joy. The familiar, sweet scent of this morning’s light drizzle lingered in the air. Although the weather was a bit too humid for your liking, you gratefully savoured the smell that filled your lungs. For some reason, being outside in the aftermath of a downpour always brought you back to that wooden counter of your parents’ restaurant. You used to watch the rain blanket the outside world from the inside as you soaked and drowned yourself in your daydreams. You were a foolish teenager back then, uncertain of the paths you would take and anxious of the future. Getting your heart broken by the one and only Kim Yugyeom was just the icing on the cake.
It was fair to say that a lot had changed since then. In the span of three years, you graduated high school, moved out of that tiny neighbourhood in Namyangju, rented a small studio apartment in Seoul and became a proud Veterinary Science student of Seoul National University.
Yet, you couldn’t help but to admit that while you had progressed into the next chapter of your life, some things will always remain the same. Like how your best friend, Yeeun, never missed out on an opportunity to lecture you over the phone from the comforts of her Busan home. You lifted the device away from your ears to save them from further damage, just as the leash of the cream Pomeranian in your care, Daisy, tugged you forwards, towards a passing bicycle. You urged the dog away from the edge of the sidewalk with a solid ‘No’, which she thankfully obeyed.
“I can’t believe that you’re not doing anything special the week before uni reopens! I mean, hello, we’re going to be spending the next twelve weeks slaving away at our desks, don’t you want to do something fun?” Yeeun shrieked in disbelief. You could imagine her shaking her head at you with that resigned look on her face, the one that signalled she had already given up trying to change your mind.
“Here, girl.” You whispered as softly as you could, trying to grab Daisy’s attention and guide her back to the adoption centre-cum-café, her temporary home. “This is fun and special, Eun. You of all people should know just how special it is to help out these cute furry little babies!”
“More like furry little rascals.” She muttered under her breath. “Come on, Y/N. I get that you’re really passionate about animals and all but just think about it – you’ll be facing these creatures for the rest of your life. You should really try something new once in a while. You know, go drinking or clubbing like a normal uni student. Besides, didn’t you just visit the centre last month for your birthday?”
She was right. You did make the one-hour trip to the adoption café on the morning of your birthday. Ever since that birthday three years ago, you always made it a point to celebrate by being in the presence of a furry companion. Taking care of another living creature, going on walks with them and picking up after them helped you to take your mind off that painful sixteenth birthday when you found out he was leaving. It became your annual ritual.
You cleared your throat, trying to get rid of the small lump triggered by those memories. “Yeah, yeah I did. I… Did I tell you about the dog that I took care of that day?”
Yeeun took a large bite of her favourite takeaway noodles before letting out a muffled “No, what about it?”
“He was… Well, he was a tiny black Pomeranian puppy, not more than four months old. He was cheerful and energetic, couldn’t wait to go on his walk.” You smiled sadly at the thought.
“Yeah…? And?”
“He reminded me so much of Charcoal. You know, the black puppy from your mum’s shelter? I walked Charcoal with him three years ago.”
“Oh, him.” Yeeun grumbled at the mention of Yugyeom.
You ignored the obvious disapproval in her tone. “Yeah, the thing is I really, really, really liked this puppy, and I was even thinking about adopting him for good. I got everything set up in my place, got the pee mats, the dog food, everything, but I came in this morning and he was gone.”
Yeeun hummed over the phone. “I’m sorry, honey. Maybe you and the puppy just weren’t meant to be.” She said, trying her best to comfort you about the adoption that fell through. “Do you still think of him? Kim Yugyeom?” Yeeun asked gently.
You sighed, catching a brief glimpse of your reflection on the windows of a cold noodle restaurant a few doors down from the adoption centre. To this day, you couldn’t enjoy a bowl of naengmyeon without your mind wandering to the boy. “Not often. Honestly, Eun, every time I think I’ve forgotten him, I’ll see something that reminds me of him and he’ll just creep back into my head.”
“You know what they always say, darling. You never really forget your first love.”
You mulled over her words as you rounded the corner towards the adoption centre, Daisy trotting a few paces in front of you. “I wouldn’t call it love, per se, it’s just-”
“Wait, hold that thought,” She interrupted. “I’m sorry honey, the boyfriend is at the door. Do you mind if we continue this later?”
“Yeah, sure, I need to go too.” You stood at the entrance of the centre, reluctant to go in and part ways with Daisy. The dog came to a rest by your feet, huddling close. “Thanks for calling and reminding me of my poor life choices!” You said, full of sarcasm.
“Hey, that’s my duty as your best friend, don’t mention it.” She chuckled. “Oh, and Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Remember what I said. Go live a little, okay? You’ve already wasted too much time on Kim Yugyeom.”
“Yeah, I will.” You mumbled, agreeing with her words. “Go enjoy yourself with the boyfriend. Not too much though, and spare me the details. Talk next time!”
The two of you bid each other farewell and ended the call. Miraculously, talking to Yeeun made your chest a little lighter. Amongst countless other things, she had been there for you during Yugyeom’s abrupt departure and the initial stages of denial. She helped you draft, edit, and re-edit the numerous emails you sent to the boy, the only form of communication between you two for the first six months. She hugged you close and let you sulk on her shoulder when the emails suddenly stopped seven months after he left for Incheon. You were beyond grateful to have her as a voice of reason amongst your irrational thoughts; someone to walk with you hand in hand through the storms of life.
You made a mental note to ask your mother to send Yeeun a parcel of her prized kimchi as part of next month’s delivery. The girl never failed to mention how much she missed your parent’s cooking whenever the two of you talked on the phone.
All of a sudden, a high-pitched bark travelled across the street. You instinctively tightened your hold on Daisy’s leash, wary of the arrival of another canine. Cautiously, you watched as a four-legged, black ball of fur whizzed past the empty street, arriving before you and Daisy in a matter of seconds. As the dog grew closer and closer, recognition flashed across your mind as you noticed the dog’s distinctive white collar, a stark contrast to his coal black fur. The dog you intended to adopt this morning was wagging his tail and panting by your feet, letting out occasional playful barks at Daisy, his former neighbour. You bent down, arm reaching out to get a feel for his oh-so-soft fur–
“Dal!” A male voice, bright and awfully familiar, exclaimed between heavy breaths. “Dal, slow down, big boy! Daddy can’t…” The voice died down a notch, reducing to a whisper as its owner’s feet entered your line of sight. His entire body shaded your crouched figure from the afternoon sunshine that peeked through the clouds. “Catch up.”
A moment of silence ensued as your eyes panned upwards, scanning a pair of long legs covered in ripped jeans, then a yellow plaid shirt that was haphazardly tucked in, right up to the owner’s face. You couldn’t help the sharp gasp leaving your lips.
Standing before you was none other than Kim Yugyeom himself. His features were more defined than ever, his wavy hair a silvery shade of platinum blonde and his ears adorned with a pair of silver hoop earrings. A single stainless-steel drop earring dangled from his earlobe, its bottom decorated with a half-crescent moon and a star. You stood there and stared at the boy you once knew, now a fine young man, just taking him in. You noticed the lack of cuts and scars on his unblemished, fully healed face. You spotted the beauty mark right under his right eye, standing out against his fair skin. You watched, mesmerised, as his lips twitched to form a slightly sheepish grin, while the tips of his ears burned and glowed into a striking shade of cherry red. Yugyeom’s eyes widened in mild surprise, his gaze lingering on your face for a few stretched out seconds before wandering away, then returning back.
Him… It’s him… He’s here, in Seoul? But I thought he was supposed to be in Incheon, with Mark. What is he doing here? And how did he…? Your never-ending stream of thoughts swirled inside your head at an alarming rate, and you felt the onset of a splitting headache crawl up your temples.
“There you are, Y/N.” Yugyeom said finally, releasing a satisfied sigh and an airy laugh. He didn’t seem nearly half as surprised as you felt under these unlikely circumstances. In fact, you thought that the expression he wore on his face morphed into one of relief instead. “After so long, I finally found you.” He bent down to scoop the black puppy into his arms, leaving you utterly stunned. Before your mind could process the meaning behind his words, however, he suggested, “Let’s talk inside,”, gesturing towards the entrance of the adoption café.
You gave him a meek nod, not daring to let out a sound on the off chance that you would stumble over your words and make a fool out of yourself. With the manners of a gentleman, Yugyeom held the door open for you and waited patiently as you ushered an excited Daisy into the café filled with her furry friends. He took confident, quick strides towards the barista standing behind the counter, much like the first time he had walked into your parents’ restaurant. The way he carried himself, with an air of calm coolness, had not changed at all. You followed closely behind, struggling to keep up with his bigger steps.
“Hello, noona.” He greeted the lady, friendly and warm. “Can I please get an Iced Choco and…?” Yugyeom turned to you expectantly.
“Uh…” You started, soft and uncertain. “A peach iced tea, please.”
“No longer a coffee addict, huh?” He teased, unable to contain his toothy smile. Yugyeom retrieved his wallet from his back pocket and held out his card to pay. It was then that you noticed, quite belatedly, the yellow Rilakuma plaster wrapped tightly around his left index finger.
Your mind began to race. You were unbelievably happy that even after three years, he still stuck to the same brand of bandages, but at the same time, fear and anxiety gnawed and scratched against your chest. All this time, was it still happening? You wondered silently. Surely… “What’s… What’s with your,” You gestured vaguely towards his appendages. “Your finger?” You squeaked.
“Ah,” Yugyeom glanced briefly towards the yellow plaster, paying it little to no mind. “Come, sit down first, okay?”
“No,” You replied with a firm tone that you rarely used. You were a little taken aback yourself. “I’ve spent the past three years worried sick about you. Don’t you at least owe me an explanation about your most recent injury?”
Yugyeom sensed your insistence and determination, knowing that there really was no use trying to convince you otherwise. “It’s nothing to worry about, Y/N, trust me, I’ll show-”
“I’ll be the judge of that. Let me see.”
“Look, it’s just a small cut, okay?” You raised an eyebrow at his description. From memory, his definition of a small cut was miles apart from yours. He took a step closer, hoping to persuade you. “Here,” Yugyeom peeled away the sticky fabric with little difficulty, revealing a thin slit that already closed up. “See? It’s tiny. I was cooking the other day and the knife just sort of slipped and nicked my finger. I told you, don’t worry about me.”
Still, you were unwilling to let him off the hook so easily. “Kim Yugyeom? Cooking? Are you sure that’s safe?”
“Perhaps not the safest…” He admitted with an embarrassed rub of his neck, leading you towards an empty table by the windows. “I just really, really missed your mother’s food. Her naengmyeon especially. I’ve tasted every single naengmyeon in Incheon and Seoul and honestly, nothing comes close. I even tried to cook it myself but, well… You can guess how that turned out.”
“What made you think that your naengmyeon could be better than a restaurant’s?” You questioned jokingly, earning yourself a faked wince of pain from Yugyeom as he clutched the right side of his chest, the wrong side.
After that, it was like the words couldn’t stop flowing out of your mouths. He told you about how he caught a glimpse of your adoption papers during his interview for Dalkyum, the black puppy, and recognised your photo. He confessed that he was initially drawn to Dalkyum due to his sheer resemblance to Charcoal, to which you agreed wholeheartedly. He moved to Seoul late last year to study Fine Arts at the Korea National University of Arts, and you revealed that you were studying to become a vet. He explained how half a year after moving to Incheon, Mark had accidentally downloaded a virus onto their shared laptop while gaming, rendering it broken beyond repair. He didn’t write down your email address and thanks to his goldfish memory, he forgot the entire string of letters once Mark found a replacement.
It seemed like the more you talked to Yugyeom, the more you felt the icy shards of pain and sorrow around your heart melt away. Although, that could probably be because he was looking at you with the brightest of expressions, his mouth permanently fixed into a wide, million-watt smile.
“What do you think? Shall we start over?” You asked after a lull in the conversation, taking a sip of the soothing, saccharine liquid.
“No, I’d rather we pick up where we left off, but with a proper introduction.” He extended his arm for you to shake, which you did with a light scoff and an upturn of your lips. “Hello, my name is Kim, Yu, Gyeom. Kim for gold, Yu, which means to have, and Gyeom, as in humble or modest. It’s nice to meet you again, Y/N. You look beautiful today, as always. Did you know that? I can’t stop myself from being drawn to you, but I guess some things never change.”
“I… What…?” You sputtered hopelessly, reigniting the butterflies in your stomach. “Yugyeom, I’m literally in an old t-shirt and baggy shorts.”
“Doesn’t matter to me, Y/N.”
//
“There’s another thing that never changed, which unfortunately was also out of my control.”
“Oh no, what else, Kim?”
“I’m sorry to tell you this so late, Y/N, but sadly, you were and are my first love. And you see, the thing about first loves is that no matter how hard you try, you simply can’t-”
“Forget them.”
“Exactly. Trust me, I tried.”
“Yeah, I tried too, so hard. I guess you weren’t meant to be forgotten. Or I guess we weren’t meant to forget each other.”
“First loves stick with you like a scar that can never be fully healed.”
“Wow, look at you, Kim! I’m impressed, you’ve become so poetic.”
“From now on, I’ll only write poems for you.”
