In a previous post, you've mentioned how you've headcanoned that Donovan likes children in general but just not his own. Do you have any headcanons as to why he doesn't like his own children? If so, what are they?

I actually don’t lol. I find Donovan to be very confusing and hard to hc about because he’s supposed to be a terrible person but it’s not clearly explained why.

The best bc I can come up with is that he never really wanted to have kids, but Melinda did and she had fertility issues in the past so he really could stop her from doing it twice.

The other would be that he liked Demetrius but disliked Damian for a specific unknown reason (bouncing b/w he’s a bit too ethnic looking, he’s convinced he isn’t his son, cause Mel a lot of stress during her pregnancy, someone tried to kill him when his mom was preggers idk) but Demetrius was very defensive of his brother and it made his dad feel betrayed so he hates him too

Could this imply that Jonathan was afraid that him being with Mina at home, even Mr Hawkin's death, are all an illusion? Despite pinching himself like back in May, or touching Mina, or tasting the food, or talking to clients...?

Any and everything could be a sign to Jonathan that he is either mad or dreaming.

Castle Dracula and its monsters were all madness. Perhaps a long nightmare. The nuns scraped him off a train station floor, sick and babbling. Cured him well enough. He must Stay Sane for Mina. He must be a good and healing husband for Mina or else he will be put away with all the other lunatics. He is awake. He is 'better' now.

This, the present in England, is the true madness. His mind broke under Dracula's heel and this is all just the fantasy he's constructed for himself to hide in while the Brides feed on and toy with him. He doesn't want to wake up if so. Doesn't want sanity back if the price is losing this sweet illusion of Mina in his arms and home under his feet. Please, don't make him wake up.

The fact that he can't lock onto what Did Happen and What Is Happening with any real certainty is its own layer of torture.

Regardless of which way he leaned prior to Van Helsing's confirmation, I bet it's also why his sleep gives him so much trouble. The dreams have him back in the castle and in the vampires' teeth. When he wakes, he is with Mina, safely away in England...

...as I'm sure so many of his daydreams went while he was actually trapped in the castle.

No wonder he was a wreck.

how is dream SUPPOSED to win?? i mean, technically, (from what i know!) in canon, Nightmare has like 999 lives, teamed with Killer, and can only be harmed by dream himself.

Dream has 1 life, and teamed with Swap. (99.8% sure this is true)

Listen ok. I love Swap. but.. up against someone with an lv of 19 or more, im not quite sure theyre "equals" in the end?

not to mention, hes still got his own AU?? he has his own things to do???

i dont know, its just a thought. i've always seen so much about dream and nightmare fighting and whatnot right. it always seemed like there was a crazy power imbalance??
