as i get older, i'm gaining an increasing appreciation for natural fibers.

the crinkliness of cotton, the itchiness of wool, the stiffness of linen... it feels heartier than synthetics, you know? there's something that feels real about natural fibers that synthetics somehow lack. and i know that wool felts and linen softens and whatever, but i love that progression so much more than the way synthetics (including processed cellulose) go from unnaturally soft to weirdly plasticky.

anyways the point is i love science, and there's value to technology that improves the way we make textiles. but it's frustrating when, rather than making textiles better, science robs them of their longevity in the name of making things cheap.

there is a lot of beauty in imperfect things -- "ugly" things, sometimes -- that last.

Just something about the unspoken tension between you and Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, the way he looks at you with those hooded, lazy trails over your face that doesn’t give anything away except for how long they’re on you.

It’s when he finally creaks the door open to your room in the barracks in the dead of night, his silhouette recognisable in a second as you lay curled up under the covers. You don’t say anything. He doesn’t say anything, but you see his shoulders move like he’s breathing heavier than usual. He walks to your bed like he has all the time in the world- which he does.

You sit up. Blink at him in the dark. He peels your blankets off without a word, his eyes leaving your face only to trail down your body with the same impenetrable, unreadable eyes. It’s unbearable but it had to come to this and you both know it as he shrugs off his shirt, slips his sweats down.

He pushed your tank top just over your tits to suck on them. Nothing had been said yet as you gasp into the thick silence, his perverted mouth licking and sucking with no remorse, filthy sounds accompanying your silent whines as his lips pop, his tongue licking over any flesh it could find. His mouth trails lower and lower, hands flexing on your ribs, tits, thighs, because he needed this. You. Stress relief. And he wanted to find it in your body, just for tonight. Right?

I think 90% of my gripes with how modern anime looks comes down to flat color design/palettes.

Non-cohesive, washed-out color palettes can destroy lineart quality. I see this all the time when comparing an anime's lineart/layout to its colored/post-processed final product and it's heartbreaking. Compare this pre-color vs. final frame from Dungeon Meshi's OP.

So much sharpness and detail and weight gets washed out and flattened by 'meh' color design. I LOVE the flow and thickness and shadows in the fabrics on the left. The white against pastel really brings it out. Check out all the detail in their hair, the highlights in Rin's, the different hues to denote hair color, the blue tint in the clothes' shadows, and how all of that just gets... lost. It works, but it's not particularly good and does a disservice to the line-artist.

I'm using Dungeon Meshi as an example not because it's bad, I'm just especially disappointed because this is Studio Trigger we're talking about. The character animation is fantastic, but the color design is usually much more exciting. We're not seeing Trigger at their full potential, so I'm focusing on them.

Here's a very quick and messy color correct. Not meant to be taken seriously, just to provide comparison to see why colors can feel "washed out." Top is edit, bottom is original.

You can really see how desaturated and "white fluorescent lighting" the original color palettes are.

[Remember: the easiest way to make your colors more lively is to choose a warm or cool tint. From there, you can play around with bringing out complementary colors for a cohesive palette (I warmed Marcille's skintone and hair but made sure to bring out her deep blue clothes). Avoid using too many blend mode layers; hand-picking colors will really help you build your innate color sense and find a color style. Try using saturated colors in unexpected places! If you're coloring a night scene, try using deep blues or greens or magentas. You see these deep colors used all the time in older anime because they couldn't rely on a lightness scale to make colors darker, they had to use darker paints with specific hues. Don't overthink it, simpler is better!]

How about König being frugal and reusing a lot of things or DIY'ing them himself. Things are always too expensive these days and why on earth would he buy a new one when he has one he picked up years ago that works just fine?? C'mon, he made a mask out of a t-shirt, can't convince me that's the only thing he's reused or repurposed.

He's not a gross, disgusting pervert who snorkels with the sludges of humanity in the bottom of the degenerate barrel. [Going to go on the record to say write what you want, that's your choice. But at the same time, it's my choice to say: Genuinely, what the fuck to a LOT of what I've seen in the König tag]

He's also not an UWU shy guy who cries because you took his mask off. Please, his voice lines are so cocky, he's not going to sob and cower because some jackass tried harassing him these days. He's a damn good solider, he's proud of it, he knows it and knows how to use it

Still going to call him baby girl, doesn't make him any less of one, he's just not a wimp with no backbone who crumples into a heap because someone mildly made fun of him. He breaks backs, I'm sure he's kept at least a spine of his own (at least as a souvenir)

Social anxiety doesn't always mean being ridiculously sensitive and the lack of research put into it when it comes to writing König realllllly shows. Proper representation matters and when it's reduced to being a stuttering, co-dependent mess who can barely function on their own and is just overly clinging, it's not cute - it's hurting the narrative around it and further perpetuating untrue and negative stereotypes.

Social anxiety means many different things to many different people and shows itself in so so many ways. No two people experience it or feel it the exact same way, but it's helping NO ONE when you're ignoring blatant characterization of it and how it presents for someone to change it so you can meld them into a stereotypical box

Rant over, I just love König so much (he was my initial draw to this whole fandom) and hate seeing what's done to him in some really, REALLY deplorable extremes
