So I watched RC9GN and I kept thinking about how Spider-Man coded he was
I’ve thought about this a lot so here’s some pieces of lore I’ve come up with:
There were other spider ninjas but every time they die,(whether it be from natural causes or injuries) the ninjanomicon disappears
The ninjanomicon disappears for years while it searches for a new city protector
It has a bookmark that has a spider on the end. When it finds a new protector, the spider comes to life and bites the unsuspecting stranger. It then crawls back to the book and becomes inanimate again. Then, the ninjanomicon magically appears for the soon to be hero
Howard finds out he’s the spiderninja in a way similar to the show. He says he knows Randy’s secret(talking about something completely different), Randy misinterprets it, and then reveals himself
Howard then becomes Randy’s “guy in the chair”

basically the first episode
Nomicon: Just stay calm. You already have everything you need to beat it.
Randy: The power to believe in myself?
Nomicon: No, a sword! Stab it!

So with enough mental imaging for what a year? Two years now? I finally made a scene from Ninth Grade Samurai draft chapter of Monster Dump which in my fic is chapter nine!
I was especially proud of myself with this for in line work with pencil because how good Rei was looking, I was having a bit of trouble with the hands and the mask but I'm so proud how it turned out in the end!
This was actually my first time drawing a Japanese face arciture without a base and I'm so proud of it especially the expression too even if I was using an anime girl for reference
Rei's hair flying like that along with Randy's jacket is to reference the sudden turn to press their backs against the other

Ohohoho yes, I most certainly do remember~ Been reading around and apparently eating paper can leave you feeling full? Well then I wonder what some fucking old, dusty (prolly with some mold) paper would do. Also he ate almost the whole thing, fuck it. He might have to handle this for a while I don’t think he knows he did that tho XD mystery tummy ache~

ok so the way i draw imo looks pretty reminiscent of wild grinders, and looking at these drawing guides, I wasn't super wrong but theres also a bunch of things id never do lmao. like my straight lines need curves the clothes need to be baggy always girl but ehem that being said, some of the wrong drawings look like they drew them using the line tool without sketching them first which can lead to some pretty strange things lol, especially the one of emo cries hands with like 4 fingers on one hand and the other being a cube like ive totally made that before by accident lmao and they thought i wouldnt see they used the god damn square tool on those perfectly rectangular fingers.
anyway sorry for the long ask but got any particularly poorly drawn/animated scenes?
In reference to this
My intention for the post was mostly to compare the art styles AND animation. It really was not faithful to Tracy's original style. (And I forgot to erase the 'wrong' red text from the screenshot). We all have our preferences in art styles, and obviously Tracy's style appeals to me the most.
Mostly because every 'good western-animated cartoon' is some hybrid of Pixar/Steven Universe/SVTFOE's smooth and rounded style. Blocky, straight lines is avoided in animation for a lot of good reasons. But if done correctly, it's unique and captivating (in my opinion). One of my ideal examples to use is Motorcity as reference to the the edgy animation style.
Tumblr media
Other western animated series (I can remember form the top of my head) that use straight edgy lines and still look good include
Three Delivery
Tumblr media
Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja
Tumblr media
Would include PSG as well, but it's not actually a western cartoon.
Anyways, Tracy Tubera's art style is my favorite type of edgy-lined illustration due to the lack of it in most cartoon animation.
There's nothing wrong about baggy and wrinkled clothes, or curved lines in art. However, the [unknown artist/animator] from my last post wasn't able to capture the dynamic energy of Tracy's non-animated illustration. Basically the illustration didn't translate accurately into the animation.
As for the poorly-animated scenes request, it's not really my place to do that because I don't make GIFs. And if you've watched Wild Grinders, then you're kinda aware that most of it is already poorly animated in Adobe Flash. My job here is to find the decent animations, not the poorly-animated parts.
I can still find poorly-drawn parts, but finding scenes is kinda easy.
But yeah the [unknown artist] really was the 'break or make' of the TV animation.

Media OCs + Their Lists !
I realized I can also use this blog to catalogue my ocs that interact with canon characters in media! Their tags will be "oc: name" and "[first letter of name] [platonic/romantic/familial/etc] : [canon character's name]" this is a little long so continued under the cut!
> THE OWL HOUSE >> Louis [Grimwalker, he/him, 17, no magic, aroace] >> (you can find his non-toh profile here) FAMILIAL - Emperor Belos - Hunter (kind of.) - Zina (OC) PLATONIC -Luz & Co -The Collector -Steve >> Zina [Witch, she/her, 16, wild magic, lesbian] >> (you can find her non-toh profile here) FAMILIAL -Louis (OC) PLATONIC -Luz & Co >RANDY CUNNINGHAM NINTH GRADE NINJA >> DJ >> (you can find his toyhouse profile here) FAMILIAL -Randy PLATONIC -Howard -McFist (more rivalry-oriented) -Viceroy (more friend- oriented) that's all for now! thank you for reading! if you like my characters you can always find them in their own stories & outside of media on my art blog or my toyhouse !

I know this is likely made for goofs, but while I could just shill for RC9GN here, I think it's better to instead point out that both of these shows borrow a lot from older stuff.
Tumblr media
The first and most obvious influence on both of these shows is Spider-Man. Red-clad superheroes swinging about cities can be traced back to the webslinger. It's a lot easier to see with Ladybug than the Ninja, but the Ninja's scarf somewhat evokes that image and Randy is basically a slacker version of Peter Parker, quips and all. Ladybug also quips, but it's more obvious with Randy. Basically, you could say these two are what happens when you split Spidey down the middle in personality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That said, in terms of influence, Randy Cunningham is baked with references to old karate and kung-fu films. Karate Kid and Way of the Dragon are especially notable influences you could trace this show to. The martial arts craze of the 80s pretty much made the way for plenty of cartoons in the 2000s and early 2010s. If you're wondering why the town is called Norrisville and why Burce is such a common phrase in this show, look at Way of the Dragon. Early in production, the town was even originally called Macchio Falls. Of course, other Disney cartoons like Jake Long could be seen as possible precursors to Randy, but I'm just throwing out some old stuff. Speaking of old stuff...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two major influences you could easily trace Miraculous to are Sailor Moon and Kamen Rider. @crimson-ace-reviews may be able to point out the similarities better than I could, but even a casual like me could see where the influences could come from with these two. While tokusatsu didn't start with Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider did start what was known as the Henshin Boom where many shows about transforming heroes became massively popular. While you could easily just say Miraculous just borrowed the bug aesthetic from Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider was also among one of the big tokusatsu shows to codify the "monster of the week" premise that not only Miraculous would follow, but also RC9GN and Sailor Moon before it. That said, Sailor Moon could also be just influential if not moreso to Miraculous than Kamen Rider is, giving us a significant focus on the life of the heroine while also showing them kick ass.
Overall, while you could easily debate about how whether or not Miraculous took from RC9GN (Both shows did start production around the same time, mind you), we should always remember that everything borrows a part from something else.
Anyways, uh, please watch Randy Cunningham Ninth Grade Ninja? I'd also tell you to watch Miraculous, but the latest season had made it incredibly difficult to recommend. Still, maybe watch the first two or three seasons of that show before pretending that Seasons 4 and 5 don't exist. That's probably the best way to do that.
Oh, and watch Kamen Rider and Sailor Moon. Those shows deserve to be seen at least once. If you want to know where to start with those, again, talk to @crimson-ace-reviews.
not to talk my shit on main or anything but Miraculous Ladybug totally robbed its entire formula and episode structure from Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja and nobody talks about it.
