Aidan

1) Aidan's from a Tartosian artistic and intellectual family. His father is a philosopher and anthropologist and his mother's a painter.

2) Aidan's living on his own since the age 16. And of course, there's a long story behind it I'm not willing to tell :D But I will say that living on his own taught him a lot of things.

3) Aidan plays the guitar! As you already guessed, Arwin adores Aidan playing something for him.

4) Aidan doesn't have a sense of personal space. Nor his, neither others. So if you think he stands too close to you - then he probably does. :D

5) Aidan can't cook, but he tries his best to make a rare and exquisite Tartosian dish for Arwin. Usually it looks weird. And tastes weird. But Arwin pretends he likes it.

Arwin

1) Arwin belongs to a very wealthy family of Del Sol Valley. As the only child and the heir of De Winter's successful mining business Arwin grew up under the constant demand to be the best in everything. And as a result…

2) Arwin run away from home, right from the doorstep to his marriage. Alice and Arwin meant to each other by their families as the perfect match. Needless to say there was no place for true love between them. And btw Alice married other man shortly after Arwin's disappearance. :D

3) Arwin worked as the waiter in the railroad cafe. It was a period of his deepest depression. He was even going to end his life by taking sleeping pills.

4) Arwin also worked as the mansion manager until... the owner of this place (an elegant old lady) fell for him.

5) Arwin can't cook. At all. He'll burn the kitchen if he tries. :D

BIOGRAPHIES

Emet S. Galvus is an old being, remembering a time when mankind lived in caves and travelled for days to hunt and gather food. Having seen the rise and fall of multiple civilizations, he is disillusioned with men, though he still finds some fun these days scheming and toying around with them for his own amusement. After an event in the ancient and middle ages that impacted him deeply, he has a sour taste in his mouth regarding mortals' lifespan. Though he has his own "coven" of vampires he turned and keeps around him, all more dangerous than the last, from his butler to his secretary. Thus came Maxima, his "granddaughter". Not exactly a vampire, but something between what Emet is and the bloodsuckers, she is his only successful attempt at creating something almost equal to him, though she too feeds on blood and finds the prickle of the sun on her skin bothersome. Maxima is a self-confident, keenly intelligent and cunning little girl, who tends to stand in the shadows and stare at you, analytical, learning all she can about you before striking, whether with words or fangs. One would be wise not to underestimate the little girl, for her mind is a well deep enough to never see the bottom of.

i did not make the post complaining about datv plot that i wanted to when i finished the game but one of the bullet points on it was 'where is the reckoning to shake the heavens that flemeth promised? we lost kate mulgrew for this?' which is a bullet point that might make one realize that one's complaints are very niche and specific and thats not what people look for in 10-year-later sequels and you nix the whole post

and then almost two weeks later d*vid g*ider makes a post about flemeth & morrigan & how they were always so fundamental to dragon age [which he begins by calling himself out for older women being his type- i dont want to talk about it] and another about how the scene between morrigan & kieran & flemythal was written and shot for here lies the abyss, morrigan saying she would never be the mother [to kieran] that flemeth was to her 🥺which is STILL the most impactful thing from inquisition

then you see the messy cowardly bullshit fucking story we got in veilguard, the way that mythal's fragment is in there ultimately to absolve this man for killing her, and morrigan is only there as her mouthpiece and the only way to convince this man that he needs to stop is if people tell him 'its okay man' because thats our priority right. making him feel better. fuck the dwarves dreams and the blight and the-

i'm not sure if other people feel this way, but as i progress in veilguard, i notice that the environments, while absolutely gorgeous, feel much less memorable than previous games. as in, i really struggle to get these new regions to stick in my mind. and i wonder if it's because this game, unlike previous games, doesn't let anything linger.

right away, you're made to visit a lot of different places very rapidly and the time you spend in each place is very short, only the length of a mission or two. you're not really given the same freedom to walk around and you're certainly not incentivized to explore with how the little blue mission indicator follows you around like a gps. there's also just far less ambient activity going on, not as many street conversations between npcs or music or sound effects. there's stuff there but it feels empty nonetheless.

One day, a self-proclaimed diesel engineer suddenly appears on Sodor, causing havoc on the railways with a Class 42 diesel engine. This involves destroying tracks, vandalizing sheds, scavenging scrap, and terrorizing trucks. Thomas is the first person to meet this engineer and demands him to stop causing trouble. The engineer laughs at him, saying that “steamies are so out of date that they'll say anything to stay relevant”. He threatens Thomas that if he dared get in his way or tell anyone about him, he’ll have a nice “talk” with “Pinchy”, the menacing claw on his diesel engine. Thomas is terrified, but he knows he can’t let this rogue criminal do as he pleases. The engineer refers to himself as “Diesel 10”.

From then on, Thomas goes through an ongoing cycle trying to prevent Diesel 10 from causing confusion and delay before anyone else notices. While doing so, he is in constant dread of facing Pinchy and doesn't want anyone else to be hurt by Diesel 10. He especially does not want Percy to get involved, since his best friend is finally content with his work life. The last thing Thomas wanted was to accidentally hurt him again. So he tries to keep this dilemma to himself, but it takes a massive toll on him. While Diesel 10 sees this as all fun and games, Thomas becomes more paranoid and stressed out. This causes him to perform poorly at work and everyone starts to suspect that something is wrong with him. Not wanting to let them down, he would tell them not to worry and pretend that everything is fine. But he was starting to feel inferior again, fearing that he would soon be replaced by new hires if he continued to do worse.

All of which I know jack shit about the stories or spoilers. I’ve started Batman Arkham Asylum and I’m in the middle of Half Life 2 Episode 1. So far I’m having a blast

you know, i actually really appreciate the way dragon age: origins does rpg. so many games now just give you a blank page of a character to start with, or in a standard action adventure, you usually play as a more or less fully defined protagonist - but da:o is the kind of happy medium that i wish there was more of. the fact that you can choose from multiple backstories that you then have to play through, and it feels like you're actually making choices and roleplaying even then... it really genuinely adds to the experience as if you're actually roleplaying a character, and aren't just interacting with the options as yourself, or being railroaded entirely by an established characterization.
