Introducing everyone to my Alastor headcannon!

He's a deer right? And what are deer well-known for? Yes, yes, staring un-waveringly into your soul in the middle of a country road in the twilight hours.

But what else are they known for?

As soon as something happens, they are GONE. They run so fast and with such wild-abandon to just get the fuck out of wherever they are they they go hurtling through the brush never to be seen again.

This brings my to my head cannon - Alastor is easily skittish, he is just fortunate that his deer-caught-in-headlights instinct takes over long enough for him to grapple with his fear and restrain the part of himself that wants to flee, so instead he just stares unwavering and intimidatingly with that cocky grin until he has enough composure to begin talking again.

Now, sometimes, sometimes his instincts are too strong. And sometimes, he cannot stay composed, especially after a particularly bad fright, like bumping into Nifty or Angel Dust stalking the corridors of the hotel silently at night. What happens then? Alastor freezes for mere seconds, and then goes hurtling as fast as he can in whatever direction his feet decide to take him.

Sometimes, much to his dismay, his feet decide to propel him into the nearest wall before he even realises where he is heading.

This has led to many encounters where Alastor appears to bolt head-first into a wall for no other explanation than he felt like it, and he leaves Angel Dust as confused as ever as he bounces back from the impact, shocked from his deer-like-terror, and begins a conversation as normal, ignoring the new antler shaped hole in the wall he had just careened into.

No one dares question him about this odd behaviour, and the residents of the hotel have just had to accept that they often see the sole's of his shoes as he sprints full-pelt away from them at the drop of a hat.

"Is he always like this?" The probie — Hayden — asks, brows furrowed underneath his helmet as his gaze flicks between his fellow firefighters and their Captain — Captain Deluca, smirking as he speaks into the radio strapped to his chest.

"Thanks for the assist there, dollface," their Captain says, flirts, to the dispatcher on the other end of the radio. He's smirking, looking all smug about it, but Hayden can't quite tell if it's mean spirited or not yet.

When his friends from the Academy heard he got assigned to Captain Sal Deluca from the 122 — they winced. He's got a reputation of being a bit of an asshole, apparently, who scares the shit out of all the probies. High turnover rate. When he got to the actual station, however, the other firefighters said he really wasn't that bad. He just pushes them because he knows that they can do better. Some people just can't handle his leadership style — weak people — someone joked. Hayden can't tell if it's a style meant for him yet, but he's being put through his paces at least. And isn't that what being a probie is all about?

This however, in front of him, doesn't match up to the Captain Deluca in his head. The Captain Deluca he's been told about.

"Assist?" The very male voice of their dispatcher crackles though the radio, smile in their voice evident. "You'd be lost without me, and you know it."

It's like they don't even care that everyone can hear them.

"He didn't use to be," one of their paramedics — nicknamed Barbie, on account of her being a tall blonde — says with a casual shrug. "But he is now, and only with Josh."

"Josh?"

"The dispatcher," Barbie nods, looking over at their Captain, flirting through the radio waves. "We know him by name now."

Hayden — admittedly — hasn't been on very many calls yet, but on all the other's he's only heard Cap refer to them as dispatch. Maybe thanking them by name at the end, once they've rescued their person and done their job. But today, it's been 'what've you got for me Josh' and 'how's our caller doing, Josh' and 'give me good news Sunshine'.

"Cap's always been a bit of a charming asshole," the other paramedic — Riley — chimes in, where he's starting to pack their gear back into the ambulance. Thankfully, they didn't end up needing most of it. "Good at getting people to calm down and listen to him, y'know?"

"But the flirting," Barbie parrots back, smarmy smile on her face as she flips her long blonde hair over her shoulder. Hayden kind of gets the nickname a lot more now. "Is an 'only in the past few months' sort of thing. A new development, shall we say."

It's so weird, to hear these two paramedics, these two seasoned professionals — openly gossip about their boss flirting at work. Their fucking boss, who's stern and tough and pushes Hayden because he knows he's got the skill so why isn't he fucking using it. A real man's man, all bulky muscles and a sharp jaw. Talking to the others about basketball and how he's been helping a friend of his restore an old hotrod. Who can command a scene like nothing else, and then, right at the end, when everything is wrapped up and everyone's safe — flirt with the man on the other end of the radio like no one else can hear them.

Hayden's gaze flicks back over to his Captain, the macho asshole, smiling and laughing as Josh the dispatcher threatens to send all the interesting calls to the 118.

"Oh sweetheart, you wouldn't fucking dare," Sal retorts, slowing walking back to the truck and the ambulance Hayden is leaning on. His heart speeds up — traitorously — as his Captain approaches him not doing anything to help them wrap up the scene. But it turns out he needn't have bothered. "As if they don't get all of the wack shit already."

Sal nods at the three of them — Hayden, Barbie, and Riley — and continues on to the truck proper. They can all hear Josh huff a laugh down the line.

"Am I losing my mind?" Hayden says, brows continuing to furrow, an incredulous smile starting to creep onto his face.

"Best get used to it probie," Riley laughs, clapping him on the shoulder. "We've been placing bets on when they'll actually start dating."

Weird nightmare

I came up with this idea for a short comic while I was trying to sleep. I was thinking of putting the idea into my radioapple comic, but then I remembered that Alastor is already in love with Lucifer.

Context for the comic:

After the battle between Alastor and Adam, Lucifer finds out that Al gotten hurt. Lucifer heals Alastor (forcefully) and told Alastor to rest. Despite Alastor’s hesitation, he eventually falls asleep. Alastor has this weird dream/vision where Lucifer is talking to Alastor, and says “Are you even listening to me!?” There’s a little pause and then Lucifer says “Alastor, I’m going to make you fall in love with me” and Alastor checks if he heard that right by saying “Pardon?” Lucifer smirks before Alastor wakes up from his dream. Alastor thinks, what a weird nightmare that was… (Alastor rarely has dreams, and even if he does, he thinks it’s nightmares)

Also, there’s a note Lucifer left for Al, saying “Fixed ur cane -L”

And Lucifer also gave Alastor a glass of water.

lately I've been thinking about an Angel Dust x Husk x Alastor x Vox AU, but in a very complicated and relatively healthy and half romantic half queerplatonic way. this would be a world where Vox never joined the other Vees (bc I just don't think it would easily work otherwise). so like Angel and Husk are like definitely officially dating, Angel and Vox are bffs with benefits (they'd be like ride-or-die besties that make out when they're drunk lol), Vox and Alastor are in a queerplatonic relationship, and Alastor has kind of just inserted himself as a platonic thirdwheel into the huskerdust relationship bc he's nosy and controlling (and he genuinely cares about both of them but he hasn't figured that out yet)

like just imagine Vox and Angel Dust dancing together at a club (Angel is dancing so beautifully and sexily, Vox is dancing like a tipsy white suburban dad), while Alastor and Husk are just sitting at the bar watching over Angel and Vox (they're either watching in companionable silence, or watching while bitching about different annoying people they had to interact with that day)

I wanted to show alastors shadow as not actually obeying the laws of light and physics so i did intentionally put it in the light rather than where shadows actually are in the piece

originally i was going to put a fond look on the shadows face to reflect that al cares for niffty like his kid but couldnt get it right so i abandoned that idea

ok this is a late night ramble bc remembering eli was on radio when he went to see daniel was soooo 💕💕💕 ALSO IVE NEVER DONE HC SO SORRY IF THIS WASNT THAT GOOD 😫

ok ok so for his show

i think he would definitely cater it to prop himself up. id imagine a call in situation to confess sins or ask for forgiveness, he definitely wants to maintain that power and worship of him that he gets from the church. for the other portion in order to get attention and more followers when not being forgiving he would definitely be moral lessons about relooking at how you conduct yourself with god in mind and living a sin free life.

He drinks a lot of tea, chamomile is on STAND BY. we all know how much he loves to talk and he can't disappoint the listeners if his voice isn't up to par.

He needs an assistant. i feel similarly to how he chastised his father for being a pushover and dumb in his eyes he would definitely go overboard if he had callers since radio is much more broad.

Even though nobody can see him he NEEDSSS to be dressed up. if hes not dressed well he cant do it. he cant do the show. hes extra like that.

He def reads the bible audiobook style at night. idk where im getting this from i just imagine it being cozy.

Eli wouldn't pick up a radio voice he thinks his is fine enough and he probably finds it graining and hates it lol

Solo. we all know this. he cant have anyone else take away his divine messages. if he did have guests they would probably get whatever he wanted to say wrong anyways.

The kettle would never be off. you always have to have a drink ready BUT it can never be too hot he expects perfection and you to know how he likes it.

Despite him needing constant attention for everything to be in order he would not want you anywhere near the equipment/mic since it would distract him. definitely sit on the other side of the room. also he definitely thinks its HIS space, like being in front of the church, nobody else is allowed to invade it.

Paperwork, i imagine write ins being popular and he couldn't be bothered to read any if it. youd sort out the ones that seemed interesting enough for him. (he would do all planning and scheduling though hes very orderly.)

Despite being a diva and high maintenance i think he would be appreciative that youd do everything well for him and that you managed to keep up with his demands. after the show chats i think.

Horrorcon UK

Ok, so a little rather late for an Audio Drama Sunday post, but I wanted to share what an epic weekend we had at Horrorcon UK in Sheffield 11-12th May.

Myself, Daivd Ault and James Cleveland (all from The NoSleep Podcast) were there promoting "Horror in Audio Fiction", trying to get more people to discover audio drama and fiction through podcasts, and not assuming all podcasts were two blokes talking about stuff into a mic.

Having worked on over a 100 shows between us, (with a lot of horror), it became a game of "Tell us what kind of horror you like, and we'll recommend a show for you to listen to".

From the big anthology shows like NoSleep, and the very British and queer Shadows at the the Door, we kept finding more shows to talk about and add to an ever-growing flow chart.
