Participating in the write-a-thon was so much fun, and I can't wait for the August one! Totally not because of the many quotes we got from it not at all (? XD

It was a wonderful experience, even if I am dreading trying to beat the wordcount next month, and even keeping track of who was aiming for funny numbers was fun on its own way! Hopefully we can get ourselves to post what we wrote during it before we reach next month's write-a-thon, but we're certainly happy with the results of it!

Thank you once again so much to the mods who opened this up for us all to participate in and ran it, you all did amazing 💜

(Also I still don't know what that sigmas to grind thing means, and I have both the quote and the context of when it was said written down, Qar will forever be a quotable and hilarious mystery)

July LU Write-a-Thon: 351,092 Words in One Day!

On July 1, we hosted our second monthly LU Write-a-thon (organized by @not-freyja and @hotcheetohatredwastaken and joined by their new mods @noorahqar, @a-manicured-lawn, and @winterfen). The purpose of this event was to write as many productive words—words that furthered yourself, the LU writing community at large, or your own stories—within 24 hours as humanly possible. 

We had a whopping 90+ participants as opposed to our previous 16 - none of us expected such a large turnout, and were suitably unprepared 😅 We’ll definitely be making a lot of changes to accommodate that many people during the next Write-a-Thon, occurring August 1st. Thank you all for your patience!

But, until next month, here’s the awards and titles earned by each participant, as voted upon by the Discord server through an anonymous survey. The mods read through all your hundreds of submissions (thank you guys so much!) and picked either the highest voted title or the funniest custom submission for each person, as we found appropriate. First up is the winner’s circle, then the clubs, and then everybody else in alphabetical order right below this readmore!

The Winner’s Circle (5 Most Wordiest)

20,037 “Writer of All Time” and “Most Likely to Make 1K become 100K” (As can be seen in all its glory in your Aspects AU) @tashacee: You took advantage of Freyja and Cheeto’s beefing about who would be first and snapped up the win right from under their noses. Well played! 

20,011 “Writer of Some of the Time” and “Pen and Paper (Scritch... Scratchy?)” @hotcheetohatredwastaken: Missed the mark by juuust a bit, for the second time in a row. Cheeto, you suck. (:3 –Cheeto) (Qar wrote this, for reference!). Also wrote for most of the marathon on pen and paper!

17,491 “Writer of Last Time” (for winning last month and then failing to defend their title) and “The FourShadow-er of all Time” (for the unholy amount of Chekov’s Guns they leave lying around loaded in their docs) @not-freyja: you are the most autistic about Legend. Nerd.

13,203 “Will Make You Cry” and “Captain of the Twilight Angst Tag on Ao3” @somer-writes: Boosting the Twilight economy, and we’re all happy about it. Also the second-funniest person in the server, with the second-most stars!

13,000 “AU Collector” and “Four Enjoyer” @zarvasace: Whether they're heroes with disabilities, space rangers, or vampires, if Mina wrote it, the boys will be written well.

Clubs

Now while everyone’s accomplishments as individuals were nothing to sneeze at, teamwork does in fact make the dream work. A few lovely people made a couple of equally lovely groups, either by their own choice or as assigned by peer review.

How to make an intro for your blog

Am so autistic abt ✨rainbow text ✨ bro idk whuz up w me,,,,, anyways how r da manifestation girlies tryna manifest a bf :3

First of all, your intro has to be the pinned post on your blog. Idk why but I see a LOT of blogs where the top post on their blog is smth else or the pinned post has NOTHING to do with info abt them. This causes trouble for people viewing your blog.

After you actually MAKE the post, you need 2 ‘establish an aesthetic’; Get dividers, banners, copy and paste emoji/symbols that really speak 2 you/are related 2 u in some way, whether it be 1 of your interests or smth else.

Typically, there’s text at the top of an intro post and it’s smth like “welcome to” and smth like “the [blank] [place]” although this is common for systems/collectives who put the name of their system/collective at the top of the post. If this is confusing, then, basically, imagine it like the top of my intro post saying “Welcome to The Data System” since our system name is The Data System. If you’re plural and wanna add that, it doesn’t have to be system/collective, it could b smth like circus, coven, etc. It’s your choice.

Below that is usually a divider, a gif/pic, then another divider to make it even more ✨aesthetic✨. You don’t have to put I’d say at least add some kind of pic/gif that u like/represents yoy or your blog.

You could add some special text, like a quote from a poet, character, etc. Or you could have a combo of emojis/symbols of stuff you like. It’s not necessary but it IS very eye catching!! You wanna get the viewer immediately interested if they weren’t already!!!!

After that, it’s some variation of a greeting then you saying your name/s, like

“Hello, I’m/I go by [name/s]!”

“Welcome to the [blank place], I go by [name/s]!”, etc.

You get the vibe; just a greeting of some sort then the name/s so viewers know what to call you during interactions.

Of course, you have to add your pronouns after that. You could also add the genders and sexualities you identify w before then the pronouns, like for me it’d be

“I’m a transmasc, genderflux, androsexual, achillean, Aliuspueric [our term; boything], polyamorous gay man and I use he/it/fae/zir/thon/ae/cy”.

Just list your genders then pronouns or just your pronouns. This is important because viewers need to kno how 2 refer to you properly. They should also know if you have any preferences when it comes to neo/pronouns & they should know your queer identity, which could affect your view on certain things.

Other things you identify with should come after, especially if you’re mentally ill/plural/identify as partially/fully non-human, this allows viewers to know more about you.

Then, you can add your interests to show viewers what you’d like 2 talk abt.

Then, of course, arguably, the most important part; the DNI. DNI stands for ‘Do Not Interact’ and is a list of things that show people that if they identify as this, that they shouldn’t interact AT ALL. You could ask specifics, such as telling people that if they’re pro, neu, or anti on something then they shouldn’t interact. You could also add a ‘BYF’; a ‘Be My Friend’ list which essentially lists things like if a viewer is a fan of [X] then they should interact. Also, above the DNI could be a ‘BYI’; a ‘Before You Interact’ list where you can say your stances on specific things.

Then you should add tags if you have any specific tags that’ll be reoccurring. You can look at my tags list for an example but basically, label it as ‘tags’ then show the tags that’ll pop up.

After that, you could either end the post or download a bunch of user boxes and put them there. User boxes are just boxes that say stuff like

“This [label/term] is [X]”

They could show genders & sexualities you identify with, things about you like disorders/medical issues, stances on things, etc.

Read-a-thon Wednesday!!!

I think a lot of people do this, BUT IM GOING TO BE ONE OF THEM.

Every Wednesday or so, I’m going to read non-stop.

But I am sadly still in school so technically not non-stop. BUT YOU GET IT-

Basically, I’m going to choose out 3 books I haven’t read from my TBR, the book I’m currently reading, a random graphic novel, and a manga! I’ll attempt to read them all in one day.

If I decide I have more extra time, I’ll choose fourth book to read as well.

(Also, i have a stack of books i have bought in a tower. I pick out 3 random post notes. If you guys want, i can make videos about it)

Im a fast reader, so I can do this. Right? 😨 RIGHT????

now heres an interesting addition to my quest to find all old pronouns.

so, I bought a book. exciting, right? that book is the second edition of the merriam webster unabridged dictionary, printed from 1934 to 1961. this thing is fucking massive, its 11′ by 8.5′ by 4.5′ and weighs so much. i paid like 40 dollars for it. Anyway, i got this book because of this quote, on the merriam websters dictionary page: 'Thon', short for "that one," appeared in our Unabridged dictionary from 1934-1961. Though the word was dropped for lack of use, other gender-neutral pronouns—'they', 'their', and 'them'—remain.*

This is cool, right? the article includes a picture of the entry, but that isn’t good enough for me, i need the book itself.

so, it came. guess whats missing?

thats right, the word i bought it for. this is super cool, to be honest. as frustrating as it is to still not have a physical copy of this entry, the exclusion of the word from this dictionary is Fascinating. why is it excluded?

i cant tell what year this specific dictionary is from, but i know it isnt an ‘early addition,’ as (apparently) the word Dord was in early editions but edited out of late prints because it was a mistake. Plus, the website says it was in every second edition dictionary from 1934-1961, which was all of them, so I would assume they all have thon, but obviously, they do not.

My only theories are that it is specifically only in the unabridged dictionary, whereas I have the new universal deluxe edition, however, i cant really see this being the case? it is a collection of all of their second edition books, as far as I know? does anyone have any ideas for this missing word?

I follow some of the plot, but then diverge and do my own thing. Got to make it even weirder, right? An eerie, erotic, brooding, bloody, batty, haunting fairytale.
