Mubinna reviews a book: The Tennant of Wildfell hall

(Spoilers for this book)

Welcome to what I originally made this blog for: random book reviews! On today's agenda we have Anne Bronte's first and last novel "The Tennant of Wildfell Hall."

Published in 1848, this title was at the very beginning of Queen Victoria's reign and is very much at home with a more realistic view on Victorian England. Nothing like more "morbid" titles within that era such as Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (1814) or Dracula, Bram Stoker (1897.) Despite the less fantasical characters displayed, I think "The Tennant of Wildfell Hall" Wonderfully examines the gothic theming of a monsterous nature, big empty areas, and the isolation of the "good" perfectly. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who is just learning about the gothic, but I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a more realistic but still drama filled perspective on Victorian England with the added bonus that this book gives insight to various important factors to Bronte's life (I'm mainly rambling about class, and morality here.)

It's certainly a slow paced book. I can not state that enough, honestly. It's not my personal preference of book. However, I can definitely see why a victorian audience would've liked this book. As stated earlier, this book is filled to the brim with drama, especially for its intended audience. However, the general story is something that would intruige a modern reader, I believe!

I found that the main interesting points of the book were the more character driven plot points, i.e., any of Helen's major life events. Arthur sr's gradual decline and the constantly expanding relationships happening around Helen. However, it often was a long read to get there, and I was often counting the pages I read until I deemed it interesting. The range was about 50-100 pages if you're wondering.

My final thoughts? I read this book for my literature course, and honestly? I don't like it. HOWEVER! I do understand why it's a vital Bronte story, and it does provide a good insight into the more realistic side of Victorian Britain regardless of how sensational the story is.

2/10 for modern reading.

8/10 for Victorian reading.

(Oh! Little note at the end here. I got the Chiltren classic version of this book. It's so cute! I gotta see if I can find more.)

Guilty Pleasure (707 x Reader)

Author’s Note: This is sort of a slight AU. A “what if” where Seven met his MC during his time abroad in college. Someone that managed to make a big enough impact that moving on was harder than it should have been. I know this might be slightly OOC, but I did try my best to keep things believable ^^; I mostly just really wanted something with a foreigner/Western MC, and when I learned that Seven went to college in America, I thought it’d be an interesting way of implementing that. I’ve been working on this for a couple weeks now and while I’m not completely satisfied with how it turned out, I do still think it’s a neat enough idea, so I’ll go ahead and share it. (I also do apologize for the length;; I don’t know how it ended up this long, haha… Leave it to Saeyoung to make me write probably my longest oneshot to date)

Guilty Pleasure - Epilogue

Author’s Note: This is a short continuation of my slight AU which I think I’m going to call the…”College Friends AU” (to be distinguished from the usual College AUs where everyone is jammed into one school for the heck of it lolol). I didn’t plan on writing more since I usually just peddle oneshots, but this whole blog is just an exercise in actually creating something when I get vivid mental pictures instead of just ruminating on it til it dies. Anyways so long story short here’s a short epilogue. At least it finally gave me a chance to write the dynamic with Vandy.
