At the core of my visual project lies this sentiment articulated by José Esteban Muñoz in "Cruising Utopia". Guided by Muñoz's call to envision alternative futures, my exploration delves into the realms of queer and feminist futurisms, with a dedicated focus on gender and sexuality. Through a dynamic interplay of images, symbols, and narratives, I aim to transcend the limitations of the present moment, inviting viewers to dream alongside me and participate in the construction of liberated futures. I will also sprinkle in futurist abject art to explore the limits of the body (thus, exploring ways of being). By weaving together the threads of speculative fiction, contemporary art, and theoretical insights, my project serves as a catalyst for reimagining the intersections of gender and sexuality, challenging normative frameworks, and inviting the audience to join in the collective endeavour of envisioning and actualizing transformative worlds.

Through exploration of spaces, representations of selves, and utopias, I wish to share not only intellectual contemplation but also an emotive response that propels us towards the creation of genuinely new and better pleasures, alternative ways of being.

i'm kind of late to this but i just finished reading the scholomance trilogy by naomi novik and i feel like it is such an underrated urban fantasy?? taking the chosen one trope and turning it on its head with a fmc who has been prophesied to bring death and destruction, who is imbued with terrible power, but cannot even properly use said power to solve any of her obstacles because it would obliterate them and her soul. it takes a tired trope and the idea of an 'overpowered mary sue' and throws it back in your face by showing how all the power and destiny in the world is useless against a system filled with corruption that has burdened you with an easy way out (evil/destructive magic) that you can't take so now you have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to do simple, constructive spells instead of flicking your wrist and being done with it.

We recently hired an older woman truck driver and today she complimented my hair and asked me, "So are you family, or like an ally?" and I answered, "Oh, family 😊" and she got such a happy look and started talking about how glad it made her to have a new job somewhere where people could be openly queer and that she'd never worked somewhere with as high of a percentage of non-cishet people and how good it felt. It was just a really lovely little interaction.

The way people on this website like confidently assert their superiority over "TikTok teens" (concept I have complained about at length) bc "they wouldn't survive in the NINETIES when everyone said FAG and DYKE".
