netflix is incredibly annoying.
(in this I will talk mostly about dead boy detectives since it's the one I have watched, but I acknowledge Kaos, Lockwood and co. and all the others. tag more in the reblogs!!)
like a lot of people, I clicked on dbd and like a FUCK TON of people, I adored it. and like AN ASS TON of people, I started crying when I realised it got cancelled.
now, there are a few things about this show that ticked me off when I looked into it. one, it's a show about dead guys and it was not released in October. Two, it is very inherently queer and was not released during pride month. the problem- it was released when the audience wasn't introduced to it in a proper way.
next, it was in the Top 10 list for a while, but then fell off. I think (!!) that the reason is because honestly, sometimes I get so mad that my favorite show is cancelled that I'd give up on everything too. also, there are people saying that netflix did not market this show well. I cant find anything about that since I don't have any other social media app, but if you have data pls post it here.
next, the main problem. SHIT DOES NOT GET FAMOUS WITH ONE SEASON!!
take schitts creak. from this article (which was also an inspiration for this post) I saw that it did not get much traction until the third season. THIRD. SEASON.
I think it's basic common fucking sense, but let's explain it to @netflix
imagine you get a taste of an amazing ice cream. it's beautiful. it hits all your taste buds in the best way. you gobble it up. then you find out that the ice cream is discontinued. the company that made it is fighting tk make more, but the head honchos at marketing don't care. they said that it didn't have a bit enough audience, not enough people ate it. After some research, you realise that the ice cream was released for a week. in an ice cream truck that was notorious to partner with the head honchos and routinely did this.
don't you think that that is a little FUCKING DUMB!?
the crew and cast and everything about dbd is beautiful. captivating. the season ended on SUCH a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wanting more, like ice cream. but that joy hoes un-heeded.
I genuinely don't know how to tell people that maybe, perhaps, things take time to work. relationships. a project.
A MOTHERFUCKING SHOW.
in short, I hate @netflix . they are hungry capitalist pigs who do not realise how much shows mean.
bring back binge-worthy television that does not get cancelled when the head honchos want it to.
@netflix @netflix @netflix @netflix @netflix
(p.s- check out the linked article! it's very informative and very well written!)

It feels actually insane to be alive and also involved in fandom right now. The world we live in is getting infinitely shittier with the looming threat of even more terrible things on the horizon, but you'd never know it in the fandom world because there is SO MUCH to look forward to.
Your favorite shows have begun filming the new season! Your favorite character has a very good chance of being revealed as queer! Your favorite fanon couple actually has a good shot at being canon endgame! Long-standing mysteries may finally get answered! Bonus material has been filmed and may be released!
My one fear is that the real world getting shittier could bleed into the fandom space and prevent our joys, leading to cancellations and rewrites and removal from streaming, effectively undoing all the progress we've seen.
Still, I remain hopeful that we can keep this momentum. There is a window of opportunity right now for stories that couldn't be told in the past, and we must continue to uplift them!
Also, we all need to commit to physical media and bootlegging copjes where they don't exist. We need to preserve our shows when they air, lest they become lost media under future oppressive regimes.

I think one of my favorite genre of queer characters is the one were they weren’t intended to be queer when they were created but the acting, subtext etc, made the writers explore the character’s sexuality and we organically see them coming to terms with themself. It makes the viewer recontextualize every previous scene with the character and is also a great example of how transformative a show can be within itself. Korra and Asami, Mac (maybe the best example there is), Todd Chavez… I’d even include Tom

OMAR RUDBERG: ON HIS OWN TERMS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omar Rudberg just made a post on Instagram confirming his queerness for what appears to be the first time expanding on his sexuality in more depth than before while expressing his gratitude for Young Royals and all that it’s meant to him. (EDIT: Unclear if Omar would use “queer” to describe himself currently, so I’ll go with “unlabeled” unless he states otherwise.)
It’s such a graceful and eloquent post, it’s clear that he’s had time to consider every word.
Even better, he’s twenty-five, well experienced in life, and by all appearances, he’s chosen to share this side of himself from a place of comfort and confidence.
And as soon as I finished reading, I thought, This is what every person should have: agency.
Whether it’s one’s sexuality or gender or identity or self-expression, everyone deserves to have the dignity of choosing when and how they share these aspects of themselves with the world.
I only know Omar through Young Royals and his posts on Instagram, but he’s always seemed very self-possessed and compassionate. I remember when Kit Connor was relentlessly harassed into coming out at eighteen, Omar and Edvin were vocally supportive of him and the nonsense he was put through.
I’m glad Omar could do this on his own terms. He seems lovely, and with his wealth of talent and drive, he’s sure to be the focal point in a thousand ways on a thousand stages.

I remain very tired of the people who want queer media to be sanitized. Like we deserve a full spectrum of queer media. From asexual to allosexual representation. We deserve slow burn and fast burn. We deserve no heat to high heat. There should be a full compliment of the sexual spectrum.
The amount of people who lose their minds when queer people are actually sexual, and specifically in situations where they’re not in a committed relationship as hyper-sexualization. Especially when that content is made by queer people for queer people.
Like, if it’s not for you. It’s not for you. But if grown adults are making queer media and consent to be in it, by queer creators…but also don’t go trying to harass actors and writers and directors out of the closet either for gods sake.
I just… *sigh*
The amount of sanitizing of the queer community that has been done and continues to be done in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic and in the bid for our human rights to be acknowledged through assimilation. I am so tired.

A lesser known component of the Gay Agenda that I personally impose on other people is that I need all queer and questioning folks to at least watch the first episode of heartstopper.
Cishet folks would obviously benefit too but I feel like for them to get the full experience, they need to be supervised, and I don’t always have time for that.

TV Review: Fantasmas ★★★★
In the delectably queer (in every sense of the word) new HBO comedy series Fantasmas, creator-writer-director-star Julio Torres (Los Espooskys, Problemista) plays a thirty-something creative named Julio Torres. He lives in a heightened, only-ever-so-slightly surreal version of New York City with his trusty robot assistant Bibo (voiced by Joe Rumrill), an aspiring actor eyeing human roles. Early…

Heya everyone! I’ve been a busy bean working on my final thesis on queer representation in current media and am currently collecting data and feel like if I don't ask my dear readers for their opinions - then who? This survey takes like 5 minutes and I would greatly appreciate your participation!

I cannot explain emphatically enough how much The Warp Effect is now my favorite Thai series of all time.
Yes, this:
Tumblr media
Like, I mean, there’re my favorite Thai BL series and my favorite Thai BL couples.
The Warp Effect has everything I’ve ever asked for AND MORE!!!
Mollie, a magnificent nonbinary deity who is 1) essential to the plot, 2) multifaceted, and 3) in love with with an acerbic lesbian named Nim, the perpetual architect of her own problems!!! There is direct discussion of fatphobia as well!
Tumblr media
Army, an absolute gay catastrophe whose entire personality is eschewing impulse control and being generally too adorable and tenacious to stay upset with. He’s my son. The man he’s tormenting is Joe, whose entire arc will have you screaming.
Tumblr media
See-Ew, whose fetish isn’t treated with anything but maturity and empathy and the understanding that sometimes fetishes aren’t sexual, they’re about intimacy and trust!!! I CANNOT EXPRESS MY JOY ABOUT SEX BEING RESPECTED SO PROFOUNDLY AND PORTRAYED SO CONSIDERATELY.
Tumblr media
Liu, an absolute sweetheart who is entirely capable of standing her ground! There’s a whole sexual harassment in the workplace bit!! LOOK AT HER CONFRONT HER BOSS ABOUT BAD TOUCHING!!!
Tumblr media
An absolute goddess!!! Named Kat!!! Who doesn’t!!! Want to be!!! In a relationship!!! And isn’t demonized by the story!!! For enjoying!!! Casual!!! Sex!!! KAT!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
Rose and Jedi!!! A cis dude and trans woman who have arguably the healthiest long-term relationship IN THE ENTIRE SHOW!!!
Tumblr media
And Alex and Jean!!!! Our heroes!!!!!! Who are so absolutely wonderful and lovely!!!!!!!!!! Alex is the goodest of himbos without whom this story wouldn’t be nearly as heartwarming, and Jean is the informed, courageous ally of everyone threatened by the system they live under. She champions all of her friends and any rights she believes are being infringed. Queer ally! Pro-choice! Dispenser of tampons! SHE IS EVERYTHING TO ME.
Tumblr media
Like holy shit, this series has absolutely everything I’ve ever wanted IN TWELVE EPISODES.
Nonbinary person, trans person, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, sex positivity, entire segments of the show dedicated to sex education, casual sex, coparenting, abortion, vehement emphasis on open-mindedness, combating fatphobia, challenging homophobes and transphobes, CELEBRATING SEX WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY WARNING PEOPLE AGAINST THE MISUSE AND DANGERS OF IT.
That’s literally just off the top of my head. This series is so well-written, well-acted, and well-directed, I can’t put into words how much it’s the queerest thing I’ve ever seen, bar none. In any country. Ever.
And that’s why it’s my favorite series and Jojo is the director of my soul.
Enjoy!
