The fact that people never considered how INCREDIBLY PROBLEMATIC it is that Severus is constantly discriminated against in the saga because of his physical appearance, yet now they’re suddenly up in arms about how INCREDIBLY PROBLEMATIC it is to discriminate against someone’s appearance when that discrimination might have racial connotations, says a lot about the moral double standards in this fandom and how terribly blind and conveniently indifferent it has been until now.

Likewise, the fact that the abuse and relentless bullying he suffered was dismissed by so many people—until now, when it could be perceived through the lens of a Black character, meaning that his bullies will be exposed for what they truly are: a bunch of rich, cishet, abusive, classist brats—is also quite interesting. Maybe the issue isn’t race, but rather that many have been quite comfortable with their hypocritical stance on abuse and victim-blaming up until now, when it can be visually condemned without a shadow of a doubt.
