The heroes of this podcast are actively running from their fate, from the myths and stories attached to their names. They are trebucheted into a world of royalty, knights, monsters, enchanted forests and magic. But the thing about our heroes is they are irredeemable nerds and even while trying to escape the narratives laid out for them, they:

Get excited about the prospect of historical reenactment clothes/costumes

Enjoy being able to exercise their nerd-knowledge in this new world (e.g., Perry and how the iron in the electric fence repels the Fair Folk)

Talk about how the mythical names they were either given or chose are still special to them.

But there's more.

On my fourth listen, it really stuck me how much this podcast is about defying the path laid out for you, especially when it comes to who you love.

It's also about the complicated beauty of families of choice, the communities of love and support we build with people who we don't share blood with.

And lastly (but certainly not leastly) it's about the power of names, what it means to take, keep or let go of them.

Might have to go back and give it a fifth listen.

I can't even begin to describe how stunning this series is—the editing, the cinematography, the CHEMSITRY, the acting— Gelboys is now the best-aired coming of age BL ever!

I think I'm going insane.

Since I hate-love triangles, I am unlikely to binge watch a serie like that in my spare time, but this one is the only exception! I get so bored when I watch Love Triangles, but this series just made me like it.

The setting is breathtaking, and I'm totally immersed in everything they do. I've never seen a Thai bl like this before, so it's great to see something so refreshing.

I alsooo adore the maximalist elements included in this series, not to mention the nailsss??!!

I'm GAGGEDD. their rooms??!!

The editing, ugh! Sign me tf up ✍️🔥🔥 I think this is my favorite Thai BL, and I suggest everyone to watch this series.

Shout outs to Billie Joe Armstrong

Growing up in a place big on don't ask, don't tell was isolating and lonely (as designed, I'm sure).

Seeing a mainstream artist perform draped in a pride flag was one of the first times I realized that it was ok to just be openly me and that I wasn't nearly as alone as I thought. It was huge for younger me.

"Maybe I'm the faggot, America" being one of the first times I saw someone take that word and embrace it was huge for younger me.

Seeing him still doing his thing makes me happy.

Guys I'm losing my mind because I've stumbled upon some sort of gay conspiracy in my older sister's life via fandom???? And she's being really normal about it and I don't think she realized what she told me????

So I've started watching 9-1-1 right, and this is great because my older sister, who I'll refer to as A, is super obsessed with the show so we have something to infodump about together. It's my first time watching it but she's on her first rewatch of the show. We're all on Tumblr. I don't need to explain to y'all that Buddie is gay af and also Buck and Christopher's dynamic is super wholesome.

So I was in the living room the other day and I told A "every day Buck isn't part of the Diaz family I get more upset." And A looked at me all scared like she was afraid to tell me and and said "Dot the first time I watched it... I didn't see Buddie." I proceeded to be like wtf and give all these "what about XYZ???" examples of Buddie and she said "I get that now, but the thing is I didn't look at the subtext and I thought they were just best friends until I was talking to J about it and J literally sat me down and said 'no honey, Buck and Eddie are best friends like you and I are best friends' and then I got it." And I was like "okay well as long as you understand it now." And we moved on, had dinner, watched a different show, went to bed, whatever.

^This was me the next morning thinking about the conversation again

So here's the thing. J is my older sister's she/they pansexual best friend from college. But they're just friends. At least I thought???? I know my older sister is bi and she's made it very clear, mostly while drunk, to her husband and me and my sister that if for whatever reason her husband T died (God forbid, he's a wonderful guy and they're very happy) she would only ever date women/feminine people after him. A has known J and T the same amount of time because they all lived in the same hallway in the same dorm during their freshman year of college, and A and T started dating pretty soon after meeting and J had a boyfriend at a time. So I can't think of a time when A and J could have been together. Because I know A didn't realize she was bi until she and T were engaged like 3 years after they met (and also they both met and befriended J). But also I know A and J have slept in the same bed together multiple times during their friendship and they've both joked multiple times about having a threesome but they won't do it because T isn't comfortable with it (or at least that's what I've been told).

I just... A what do you mean that you finally understood that Buddie was a gay ship because J told you that "Buck and Eddie are best friends like you and I are best friends"?????

Greetings from Gorom refugee camp, South Sudan. We are in a war zone, and our lives are at risk not only from the violent homophobia of the community, and fellow refugee residents, but from gunfire and bombs. This is an appeal to all who are supportive of our LGBTQ community at the camp for help in moving our resettlement to countries which do not criminalise gay people. Please help us in any way you can: by financial support as we lack food and the basics to live with a minimum of hygiene and comfort, and also by lobbying your lawmakers so that they can press for action to be taken to speed up our leaving this very dangerous country. Personal story I want to send into the void:

I went to visit friends in my small conservative hometown for the holidays and whilst in the local Barns and Nobel (the centerpiece of our dying mall) a person told me: “I like your sweater!”

I said: “thanks! I like your hat!” I had seen it was a beanie with a pin on it, though I could not make out the pin.

The person said: thanks! And somehow managed to incorporate a very smooth limp wrist (💅) into the gesture and we went back to browsing happily

My sweater I should note, is the ugliest, most oversized, thrifted knitted thing ever- garish purple and green on dark blue. I like it for a lot of reasons but tonight especially so for causing this interaction

I was later shifting through the D&D books and chatting with my friend about the campaign I’m running when the person from before comes up excitedly to mention that they too have run the same campaign (Curse of Strahd)!

We struck it off talking about home brew elements and different story arcs as one tends to do; I think they might’ve been flirting and I’m a little dense to see it

It didn’t go anywhere but they introduced themselves as Rebecca (if I heard right)

And Rebecca, if you see this- thanks; you made my night, it was really nice to see other queer nerds out here

Does anyone want to read a short story about a trans kid at the age where you don't have a word for what you are yet, or really a full idea of what you are, but you know what you want to be so you cling to it and the people around you that represent it?

Because I wrote something like that! It's called Cowboys (or Good Men, but we won't get into that whole story), and it's about a kid named Kit who wants nothing more than to be a cowboy like 'her' uncle Pau! It's a small slice of life/coming of age story that showcases the unconditional love of a family's two misfits, alongside subtly highlighting a less talked about stage of growing up transgender in the south.
