Shout outs to Billie Joe Armstrong

Growing up in a place big on don't ask, don't tell was isolating and lonely (as designed, I'm sure).

Seeing a mainstream artist perform draped in a pride flag was one of the first times I realized that it was ok to just be openly me and that I wasn't nearly as alone as I thought. It was huge for younger me.

"Maybe I'm the faggot, America" being one of the first times I saw someone take that word and embrace it was huge for younger me.

Seeing him still doing his thing makes me happy.

Personal story I want to send into the void:

I went to visit friends in my small conservative hometown for the holidays and whilst in the local Barns and Nobel (the centerpiece of our dying mall) a person told me: “I like your sweater!”

I said: “thanks! I like your hat!” I had seen it was a beanie with a pin on it, though I could not make out the pin.

The person said: thanks! And somehow managed to incorporate a very smooth limp wrist (💅) into the gesture and we went back to browsing happily

My sweater I should note, is the ugliest, most oversized, thrifted knitted thing ever- garish purple and green on dark blue. I like it for a lot of reasons but tonight especially so for causing this interaction

I was later shifting through the D&D books and chatting with my friend about the campaign I’m running when the person from before comes up excitedly to mention that they too have run the same campaign (Curse of Strahd)!

We struck it off talking about home brew elements and different story arcs as one tends to do; I think they might’ve been flirting and I’m a little dense to see it

It didn’t go anywhere but they introduced themselves as Rebecca (if I heard right)

And Rebecca, if you see this- thanks; you made my night, it was really nice to see other queer nerds out here

Does anyone want to read a short story about a trans kid at the age where you don't have a word for what you are yet, or really a full idea of what you are, but you know what you want to be so you cling to it and the people around you that represent it?

Because I wrote something like that! It's called Cowboys (or Good Men, but we won't get into that whole story), and it's about a kid named Kit who wants nothing more than to be a cowboy like 'her' uncle Pau! It's a small slice of life/coming of age story that showcases the unconditional love of a family's two misfits, alongside subtly highlighting a less talked about stage of growing up transgender in the south.

update!!

I started writing a story about a loveless aromantic aplatonic allosexual nonbinary person. They met a guy named Bayely his nickname is Bark. they meet in a collage biology class and they don't fall in love or get into any type of relationship. They after a few months of being friends he develops sexual feelings for the main charter. and they become friends with benefits but the benefits are sex and cuddles. he has never cuddled anyone besides family because all of his romantic partners have just wanted him for his body. their story focusses on their abnormal friendship but its not a queer platonic relationship. eventually the main charter wants a kid and has the awkward conversation of asking Bark to help them explaining that he does not have to have a father role in the kids life if he does not want to. he says yes after a month of thinking it over he says he wants a more uncle like role in this kids life. after a year of sometimes helping out with this kid he wants a more fatherly role in this kids life. a few months later he moves in with the main charter to take care of the one year old. Bark and the main character have separate rooms they are pretty much friends with befits roommates who are raising a kid together. I have not written all of the story yet I only started writing it today I have 692 words so far. I got the idea for this story while daydreaming about what I want. I might call the main charter Soe (pronounced like the word so) as a shortened version of the charters birth name Sophia. Might post somewhere if anyone wants to read it when its finished comment or like this post if this sounds interesting to you

I am slowly adding all my ocs and there lore to this blog.

Introducing the Shepherd siblings! Morgan, Riley, and Oliver. They're Australian, have a sibling punk band, and they're all some flavor of queer and trans.

Morgan (green hair) is agender with a femme-leaning presentation, and loves all things goth, Halloween,and witchy. They're the lead singer of the band and play the base. They've always wished to be a real witch with real powers (which does happen in their character arc), and they're currently working on their masters in geology. They love crystals and cool rock formations.

Riley (long white hair) is a trans nonbinary demigirl that loves writing, video games, and works in retail. Out of the three they're the only one not satisfied in life, struggling with depression and self confidence due to the pressure put on them by their parents as the only "male" in the family. They love writing stories, drawing, and animating, and they wish someday to become a video game developer. They are the drummer of their sibling band.

Oliver the youngest of the three, a pansexual trans man that fully embodies the spirit of punk and left-wing anarchy. He is super smart with physics, mechanics, and machines, and works as a car mechanic at a unionized workplace. He is the guitarist of the band.

All three siblings cut contact with their conservative parents, although Morgan, the oldest, reaches out to them on extremely rare occasions and only out of absolute necessity.

They all moved to the U.S. in the same city to get as far away from their parents as possible. Morgan (or Oliver, undecided) is Alex's roommate and best friend. Riley lives with Oliver/Morgan so that they can financially and emotionally support her.

Alex, the Shepherd siblings, and a few others I haven't inroduced yet all become the main "cast" of the story, where in a once-in-a-million incident, they all gain unique abilities and travel the world as vigilantes-- I guess superheroes, you could say-- trying to make the world a better place, a little at a time.

This audiodrama has been such a dream to create. Like Carter's tapes do for Lucas, MOONBURN has given me so much hope and inspiration.
