I love when fanfic authors are freakishly unhinged. "Yes, hello, I am here to write a heart wrenching story about relationships and mortality. My medium is Ducktales (2017)"

by far the funniest thing about reading fanfiction as a political professional is that I can always tell exactly who has and hasn't been to a fundraiser or gala based on how they write them

Stalker commenter anon here 😭, thank you Skelly and everyone for your nice words. I recently started writing fic myself and I think I know what everyone meant now.
I'm going to keep commenting on every chapter even if it's something small because I NEED the author to know that I'm screaming about their fic
Won't stop me from feeling awkward about it tho 😭 because yes I went through all of your works in less than 2 days and commented on everything
DO IT SCARED DO IT FILLED WITH CRINGE BUT JUST DO IT!!!!
SO PROUD OF YOU FOR COMMENTING!!!!

Thank you for all of your hard work to encourage readers to comment, including myself!
I'm primarily a writer, but your enthusiasm means that the other day I went back to a fic I'd already finished to leave my thoughts on it.
FUCKING EXCELLENT THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!!!

do you have any suggestions for when you want to read some fanfiction but like, don't know EXACTLY what you want to read? like you don't know what tags specifically just kinda Vibes.
Do you know what fandom at least? Go to the broadest tag you’re okay with (or maybe exclude a few that are always “hard no”s for you) and start reading summaries. Open every tab that might interest you, even if it’s not your usual type. Pick a few, if you like them- keep reading, try searching their specific tags for similar or see what the author has written or bookmarked on their profile. Dig a little. :)

the whole "ao3 and tumblr are our parents thing" is especially great considering the "you've already left kudos here." we are the petulant children who want more than one cookie and ao3 is saying no.

What tag would I use for someone care taking nonconsentually?
Noncon, caretaking, nonconsensual caretaking
Or something like that

(sorry if these kinda of asks aren't welcome here feel free to ignore it if it isn't buttttt)
PSA: PLEASE DO NOT MENTION OTHER SHIPS ON A FIC THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE THAT SHIP IN THE SLIGHTEST
I once wrote a found family fic with character a and character b. Character a and b do eventually meet character c, but a+b met much earlier and had a kinda parent and child slash siblings dynamic. I wrote about them. Character a was still a child in this fic.
Someone commented something making a connection from something in my fic to character a x character c. Didn't even make sense in the context.
Just. Please don't do that. If you wanna make that connection, do so away from my fic. It made me uncomfortable, as I do not ship them.
^^

best advice i ever got as a writer was to pick a hobby that i hated more than writing and stick with it. i’m a runner now and it’s miserable and i Hate It and writing is so lovely in comparison. bonus: i’m in excellent shape and running gives you a lot of time to think about writing. i’ve solved a lot of plot complications while running.
This is such funny advice. Writing is so excruciating, you gotta take up Self Torture so that writing feels like a fun little break 😭

if you say “but aros can still date!” about your aromantic blorbo, I need you to mean it. you can’t make the ship just boring old romance.
your blorbo is still aromantic, so how would that color their relationships? how would that affect their daily life? do they struggle with feeling “greedy” because they can’t love their partner back the way their partner loves them? do they have a hard time with an allo partner because on a fundamental level they don’t quite understand what romance is like, even if they’re experiencing it? on the positive side; what societal boundaries of romance do they cast aside or embrace? how do they navigate a romantic relationship differently than their peers? if it’s an aro4aro partnership, how is it unique? how much does being aro define their relationship vs. just their own personal quirks? is that even a line that can be drawn?
an aro relationship is different from an allo one. I promise, it’s so much more fun to explore what that means and the consequences of that than just “oh aros can date so they’re dating in the same way any allos would”.

If you see someone with a really bad fandom take, I’m begging you to open your emails and write a strongly worded missive to your local government official about something bad happening in your community or country.
If you’re in Canada you could email a rep about concerns about Elon musk interfering in our next federal election.
If you’re in the US the list is endless.
If you’re in the UK you could email about trans health care.
If you’re in Australia, what about dental care in Medicare?
If you’re in Europe, look into some EU initiatives of particular concern. Perhaps something to do with nature and biodiversity? Idk
Just today I emailed my local mla about coal mining in the Rocky Mountains and tomorrow I’m going to pick something else and do it again
