they're the most egregious twinks on the internet but they have genuinely not ever looked more like an average gay couple than here

you should not be mocking disabled fans for rightfully being wary of how some of you hc and depict viktor as some helpless fragile stupid barefooted tradwife who's only job is to have babies

I wanted to doodle a celebration illustration for Lunar Boy making it to NPR's Books We Love 2024 curated list!! Out of about 350 books, only 20 of the books are comics and graphic novels- I can't believe our little moon boy made it in!

Since tit is gone now, I'm gonna reminisce. First of all my mother LOVED the entire show. There was stuff she didn't understand but found funny anyways. Dip&Pip did an AMAZING job catering to non-fans. I know that sentiment is literally said over and over and over but idc. On a similar note my mom is queer(this is the label she chooses for herself) and she was sooooo OVERJOYED seeing such a large community that is not only full of lgbtq+ but also celebrates the lgbtq+ in its whole. Okay I'm done being sentimental now.

What is your interpretation of the breakfast scene in Queer? I am still grappling with my emotions about it. Why is Eugene so violent? And why is Lee saying all of that after? I’m very curious about your insight.
it's literally one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie i love it SO much and i think it says so much about the characters because it's the one time they clash without a deescalation. normally lee backs down or gene laughs it off but this time they meet and collide and sort of hiss at each other like alleycats because neither of them are even brave enough to have a proper fight.
gene is so violent because of what i think is like. a buildup of all the parts of lee that (for lack of a better word) he can't stand? like he 100% is starting to feel a lack of the independence he craves because he and lee are spending most of their time together and becoming increasingly more affectionate with each other. #1 notable thing about this is that in the scene directly before (which i take to be the afternoon or i guess a couple of days max before that morning) there's this whole exchange where gene is visibly enjoying their sex and being plainly affectionate with lee and admitting aloud that he enjoys the sexual aspects of their relationship which is like. the one thing someone in his position shouldn't do. it's absolutely intentionally a one step forward, three steps back thing for gene because he's like. well i've let lee know that i like him. now i have to let him know i Really Don't. and i love that about him soooo much.
lee here is the MOST special to me though because he's presenting his conflicting urges in this undiluted way that's wrapped up in a sort of performance so as to obfuscate the fact that he's being himself. i think "aren't you taking unfair advantage?" could be my favorite lee line because it's just so. this line is coming from the guy who for the entire movie's runtime has been like "please let me take advantage of you please let me isolate you i want to be the only person in your life i want to control you i want to use every advantage i have over you against you" and all of the sudden he's like "aren't you taking advantage of me? the sweet and innocent baby?" and like. the modicum of truth in his routine i think is that this is Actually how he sees himself. it could be manipulative and it might be if it was someone else but it's just not because lee actually believes he's childlike in this way and there's some level of awareness in him that his performative masculinity is just a performance. bringing up the bout of junk sickness is a sensitive thing for both of them too because it's this moment of weakness from lee and moment of tenderness from gene which is like. another thing they both crave but are both really afraid of.
it's really awesome ultimately because this might be the most direct they get with each other but they're still just completely speaking past each other and just laying out their desires but not understanding each other at all and not really finding any sympathy for each other either. it's as close as they get to spitting their hearts up at the same time and leaving them beating on the floor tbh. and god i love it when they fight.

While the intermedia of GelBoys is VERY referential to Skam, it took me a hot second to figure out what film the tone (sound, pacing, and visuals other than the appliqué motifs) of the actual series reminded me of—until I saw Chian’s “I <3 Paris” shirt. Then it hit me. It’s the first teenage section of the under-seen French queer coming-of-age gem Girlhood by Celine Sciamma (also writer/director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire).

The intimate sights and sounds of city-life from a local point-of-view with distant shots sans dialogue, the tangled queer friendships, the pop songs and synth scoring, the casual city grime right beside bright synthetic colors. Girlhood and GelBoys are not narratively similar, but I’m saying they speak the same cinematic language.

seeing everything about the secret lives of mormon wives is so weird to me because
1. I didn’t grow up in Utah so some of the more cultural vs. doctrinal societal norms weren’t really prevalent
2. I have very chill parents who love the religion but also know that the church institution itself is fallible and religion/practice are personal above all else
so it feels almost alien??? Like I grew up in the church, and even though I’m pagan now I still enjoy going to church with family when I’m in town and I feel up to it. I have ties there. I love a lot of the people in the ward I grew up in.
it feels like this show is talking about something I’m barely even familiar with. Idk. It’s also frustrating because I really want someone from outside of the church to take us seriously enough to do an actual deep dive into the cosmology/culture/structure and general history of the church without affirming or outright condemning all of it. There’s so much nuance in people’s relationships with church and it makes me kinda sad that we never get that.
idk I maybe need to start incorporating some Mormon characters with actual nuance into writing projects ‘cause… I’m sad sometimes lol
(also if I have to explain one more time to someone that an institution can be bad/have serious flaws without being a cult I’m going to lose it. SOME BRANCHES OF THE CHURCH FIT THE BITE MODEL. SOME DO NOT. STOP USING CULT AS A BUZZWORD. I grew up with people saying Mormonism was a cult. I also know someone who was raised in an actual cult, and trust me, the cultish-ness of lds religious practice is based on a wide variety of factors and where you live. I personally think it’s pretty rude to just tell someone you barely know that they’re in a cult with no research or sensitivity around it.)

and while im still on this i really do have to say phannies are the kindest most friendly people i have ever been around. i have never been at a venue with so many people and felt so safe. everyone treated the bracelets i gave them like precious jewels. i saw so many people making friends with people near them. I MADE FRIENDS WHICH IS SO SO HARD FOR ME. i hope dan and phil are proud of the community they have curated because i truly think this is a place like no other. i love you all so much and i hope we meet again <3
