[ID: An animated gif of Jonathan Sims of the Magnus Archives. He has brown scarred skin, and short grey hair and a moustache. He's wearing a brown hoodie with cream colored sleeves and pull strings. Jon happily pulls the hood over his head and flips the little cat ears on top of it upright, one at a time, saying meow each time. The background is pink with pink paw prints dotting it. The short animation loops over. \End ID]

So...
@georgiacooked and I are working on an audio drama together, a queer/trans gothic horror road trip, inspired by Dracula and the Magnus Archives, told over found footage and collected evidence as our main characters deal with the true aftermath of what happened to the Crew of Light in Transylvania over a hundred years ago.
It's a story that will span over three series, roughly 7 episodes per series - at 30-35 mins long per episode.
We want to ask you guys, the wonderful people of Tumblr, what sort of rewards you would be looking for to help fund our audio drama as we want to make sure our cast and crew are paid fairly. Current Reward Ideas include (in order of expense): A pin / merch related to the story Postcards of certain scenes Shooting Scripts (Transcripts will be made available) Named after a character A small cameo Associate Producer Credit
Firstly, would this interest you? Secondly, what sort of rewards do YOU want to see? Any feedback or support would be amazing!

transhumanity
bigotry. racism. eugenics. human rights. disability. genius. diversity.
we live in a world where most people are suffering.
either because of who/what they are or because of what their environment is like.
people want to change both of these things -- humanity and the environment. understandably.
the issue has never been diversity itself. the issue has been within the human heart, mind, and soul.
the human condition is one of our own making.
i can rattle off all of my strengths and weaknesses. things i like and dislike about myself. i could tell you my life story -- one which is filled with mundane and paranormal horrors. but one which is also filled with mundane and supernatural beauty. within and outside of me.
there are things we all wish to change. about ourselves and about our world.
the issue comes from forcing other people to submit to our ideas.
the issue comes from misunderstanding ourselves and others.
the issue comes from not being honest or communicating well. sometimes not even genuinely attempting to.
the world is amazing. the world is horrible. it is filled with great goodness and evil.
most of that evil comes from humanity.
i know humanity is capable of so much more than this. i know this because i know myself. i know this because i know the heart and soul of people like i know my own.
i know you're tired. i know you're angry. i know you're sad. i know you don't want to deal with any of this.
i also know you want more than this. i know you have dreams and desires you've yet to live out. ones you're afraid you'll never get to experience. i know you have so much more life you could live if the world and people were different.
i know you believe in magic. i know you want a better world - for yourself and your loved ones (whether they be animal, plant, fungi, or man). i know you want to know what's actually going on.
i know you're ready for a new world.

Hey. Shout out to all the aro/ace/demi fanfic writers. Y’all are fkn carrying. Your characters have complicated interpersonal relationships that aren’t merely defined by their romantic or platonic labels. You get it.

I'm still not well so this isn't going to be articulate, but I wanted to say something anyway.
In the wake of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (amongst other titles) being purged from streaming I've seen countless posts saying "This is terrible, we need to stop this practice -- they might purge a good show next!" and yeah, for sure a lot of titles being impacted by streaming purges/lack of physical media/a decline in archiving right now aren't going to be remembered for changing the world.
However, I think it is vital that we fight to preserve these titles for their own sake not just because "What if next time it's something we actually like?!" There is value is preserving things widely regarded as "bad" not just because I have firm beliefs about the absurdity of taste, but because who gives a shit if something is deemed "good?" Actual human people put their time and energy into realising these artistic visions. Even if the results are arguably not "good" or "popular", should the efforts of these artists be lost to the sands of time? No, no they fucking shouldn't.
I share a lot of art on this blog from titles very few people consider culturally important or valuabe. However, I don't look at the things I collect & share like that. Even some of the most objectively absurd titles I own are still pieces of art that were developed, published, and consumed by humans in the real world. Whether they've turned out to be broadly memorable or not is irrelevant because they existed and that in itself makes them worthy of preservation so that others can choose to familiarise themselves with them long after the original creative team is gone.
So yes, we should all be trying to preserve the media that's important to us and not let corporations try to stamp out every trace of a financial (though not necessarily artistic) misstep. However, it shouldn't take the threat of something we, personally, like being taken away to stir us into giving a shit.
Even the demise of less admired works should concern us and make us start to burn copies of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies because it might not mean anything to you or I right now, but to some kid in 20 years it could be a seminal experience that leads them to follow their dreams. Or it could become a cult classic that people reflect on at watch parties years in the future. Or it could continue to be a footnote in the history of television that nobody really cares about.
Ultimately I don't think it matters what level of value we arbitrarily assign to media now or in the future, we should be trying to preserve as much of it as possible so that generations from now people can enjoy the option of engaging with these titles should they so wish.

No nonfiction book has ever quite so profoundly laser-targeted me with grief as Remigiusz Ryziński's Foucault in Warsaw. Phenomenal and absolutely devastating book.
If you are interested in 20th century queer culture and history, I can't possibly recommend it enough. But beware.

Artist Jackie Kirk with the subjects of her one-woman show, The Face of AIDS, that showed at the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco in 1991.
Virtually unknown at the time, she was among the first to artistically address the AIDS crisis, specifically in the Bay Area.
“What made the series unique is that Kirk painted a self-portrait after each time she painted a dying AIDS victim. They hung side by side in the gallery to reflect what she felt while staring into the eyes of a dying man.”
“Perhaps some people may approach this show with fear,” she wrote in her artist’s statement for the historic show. “They may think it is about death. It is not. I am painting courage and strength. It is, above all, about life.”
Jackie painted and created prolifically throughout her life; she passed away on June 25, 2021. (credit) (credit)

Happy Pride specifially to the incredibly sweet older gay man who started chatting with me at the history pavilion, saying it was so good to see a young person interested in studying our history and then started telling me stories for a good half hour about the queer scene in the Twin Cities in the 70s and a dear friend of his who died from AIDs who he sewed a memorial quilt square for 😭
