Gentle reminder, first drafts are for putting it all on the page and out of your head. First drafts are for telling. Later drafts are for showing. So keep writing that first draft. You've got this.

Episode 7 is locked. The Video is ready for Youtube. The EP07 clips have been chosen. We have officially finished creating Season One!
We are both so excited to share this final episode with you.
Two things you should know:
One: This episode is the shortest of the season, running 36 mins long.
Two: it’s one long scene, presented in real time without breaks.

Listening to the edits for EP07 this week and i am so emotional.
We've done it, we've made Season One. The first part of the story we wanted to tell is basically complete.
This was such a mammoth undertaking and part of me doubted we'd get this far, that this was just a pipe dream, but here we are.
Feeling ready for a little cry (in a good way)

It actually meant so much to me to see the original Mina/Jonathan dynamic honoured in Nosferatu (2024). The way they loved each other so much, did everything for the other, clung to each other in the face of the Count's individual assaults upon them...I'm so used to seeing adaptations take this actually really great couple and tossing them into a blender for the sake of propping up the Count's character and his *not book accurate* relationship with Mina. I was so worried going into this movie I'd been hyping up since the beginning that it would fall into the same trap, and it soothed my fears immediately. The only straight couple ever in my eyes <3

Welp, there goes my notifications. Thanks for sharing all - it's very important now more than ever to support storytelling that isn't the terrible wizard woman and raises and supports queer and trans voices. I can see lots of reccs in the tags and that's amazing!!
If you want to support new audio drama, I highly recommend checking out the below links:
Firstly there's The End is the comprehensive directory for completed audio fiction shows.
There's also the @audiodrama Audio Drama Directory: https://audiodrama.directory/ which includes a lot of shows not yet complete.
In both places you can search tags for what you're looking for!
Otherwise, there are lots of discords (Like The Podcast Book Club @podcast-bookclub you can join to find fans of audio drama who will recommend their favourites and do listening parties together) and there's also r/audiodrama reddit which is also having creators sharing new work and you can see people asking for reccomendations!
I will also add you can also find out about my own podcast, The Holmwood Foundation here: @theholmwoodfoundation which has a trans femme lead and a variety of queer and trans voices throughout the season.
Hi hi, as that wizard show now is getting an audio book series, just a reminder that there are so many people in the queer space making audio drama for free that’s amazing so please go support those, instead of the terrible wizard woman who’s literally funding to make trans people’s lives worse.

We’re so grateful that @podcast-bookclub picked us for the editors choice for their next bookclub!
When people talk about Last Dance they relate us to an eclectic mix of wonderfully different AD’s, so we might be for you if you like:
@thesiltverses, Tumanbay, Malevolent and @kingmakerpod just to name a few.
If you haven’t heard of Last Dance already, we’re a full cast dark fantasy audio drama that’s inspired by Celtic mythology and alchemy, with a magic system based on humourism.
It’s rich, complex story that follows a battlefield scavenger as he finds himself thrust into the heart of a devastating war, features a wonderful Northern Irish cast, and we even got The Walking Dead’s David Morrissey for an episode!
If you’re interested and want a fantastic group of people to listen along with, it looks like the bookclub will be running every Saturday. Podcast book club is just a fantastic place in general too, and a great community where you can discover loads of amazing audio fiction.

Over the past few days there's been a renewed conversation about diversity in the audiodrama space. I've had great friends and fellow creators sharing their thoughts on the matter and wanted to chime in with my own opinions.
There is a great disparity in the amount of listens that are received by shows that are written by white men. That's not a hot take or me trying to bash anyone, that's just the truth. People gravitate towards what they've known and liked before and because so many of the bigger podcasts were made by white men, this cycle continues. I know many many wonderful non white femme and nonbinary creators in this space and I also know that their numbers are far lower than any Big Show in this space. And I also love the Big Shows- they're what started me on this path to begin with- but it's a noticeable disparity especially when you're 1) not white and 2) not a man. That's not even beginning to touch on the disparity around genre. As a community, audiodrama listeners tend towards horror. Again, this isn't a bad thing, it's just something that can clearly be seen in the space. White men writing horror is at the top of the iceberg, with white people in other genres following, and then non-white people in horror following after that by and large.
I am a non-white non-male person who is writing non-horror. To say that my numbers are low would be an understatement.
As a person of color, I already have to work twice as hard to get the same recognition as a white person in my same position. Adding in the fact that I am posting outside of the popular genre in the space and I'm fighting an uphill battle. I have no regrets about doing what I'm doing- I love my shows with all my heart and I'm so proud of the work that me and my wonderful casts have done! But when discussions about representation in the audiodrama space come up, it's always something that sparks a lot of feelings in me. There are wonderful shows out there that are created by non-cis-male POC that also fall out of the realm of horror and they get very little traction. All of the non-horror shows that I've seen succeed have been written and headed by white people- and these are shows I genuinely love and support, but it's hard not to notice that disparity especially when you're such a small fish in this pond we call audiodramas.
There are so many amazing shows out there if you just open your hearts to them. Listen to shows by marginalized people, engage with them, let people know if you liked them. There is no feeling greater as a creator than having someone say something nice about your show. And listen outside of your usual genre. Expand what you listen to so more people are heard in this space and feel inspired to create even if it isn't falling in line with what is popular in the space. Let people know- publicly and unabashedly- that there is space here for those who are doing something different and for those who are telling stories that aren't white. Change starts small, but it still starts somewhere and it can start with you if you let it
