well I just finished Queen Unseen (I recommend) and am under the impression that the crew got into more wild stuff than the band did 💀
A somewhat nice story though was Ratty describing how in Japan sometimes they’d put live baby eels in the drinks (?????) and the bodyguards would bite the heads off the eels before eating them (?!?!?!????!!?!) and Brian was so horrified by that, that he would free his eels into the ornamental fountains and rivers and stuff 😭

Had a lovely experience yesterday in Milan at the press opening for Peter "Ratty" Hince's exhibition "Queen Unseen" 🥰 it's the same exhibition I visited last April in Turin and that's been touring around Italy, together with a beautiful collection of Queen memorabilia owned by Niccolò Chimenti. The same pics are in Ratty's book "Queen Uncovered" that came out last year.
Tumblr media
What can I say, Ratty is so lovely and clearly passionate about his life and what it gave to him, at some point a journalist asked him "do you have any regrets?" And he replied "No, I think I've been lucky. And if I think about it more, I feel even more lucky!" 🥺💕
He could really talk all day about his memories and how much he loved being with Queen, and it was super sweet to see his huge effort to talk in Italian! All his respect and love for the band filled the exhibition, I could totally understand how eager he was to recall the story behind every photo and it was incredibly moving 💕💖💜💕💜💖💕 I've always loved his photos, but hearing him talking about the bond he felt with Queen and especially with John and Freddie was very special. Someone might think he's just profiting off Queen, but what I felt was that he truly just wants to share his own experience with this extraordinary band and what his passion for photography gave him. He is a great photographer, and the bond with Queen made his photos even more special imho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He contributed to Chimenti's collection by giving him an ashtray Freddie took from the hotel in Sanremo and a microphone used by Freddie in Knebworth '86.

^ Also I almost screamed at this photo of John that is NOT in the book ahhhHHH
Here's me with Ratty, and his signature in my book 🥰 (he wrote Rachael but it's ok hahaha)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly I'm awfully shy and among all the journalists dragging him around and asking him questions I couldn't really ask him anything, someone was even getting pissed that I was explaining him about the drawing I made and gave him 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ But it's ok, I managed to give it to him and I hope he liked it 🥰

Yesterday was my birthday and I brought my chaotic self at the Queen Unseen exhibition here in Rome, Italy for some Queenies-celebration.
There are no words to describe the feeling of being "surrounded" by these beautiful souls: it's always the best way to celebrate when it's about Queen!
How to describe this set of photos? Curly. Rebellious strands. Smiles. Admiration. Love.
I love you : everything is still the same🤍

I’m trying to have a coherent thought here about Ruby and Neo parallels. I’m getting on my tinfoil hat here bare with me.
In Roman Holiday Neo doesn’t really have motives aside from wanting someone to understand her. She finds that in Roman who is the first person to acknowledge her abilities and treat her like an actual genuine friend. Her only goal in the Fall of Beacon was to stay with Roman. So much of her identity was tied to him because she was able to comfortably be herself around him.
We already know that Ruby’s identity is also tied to someone important to her, her mom. That doesn’t need much explaining. I think in order for either of them to move forward they would need to let go of the metaphorical ghosts they’re chasing which is easier said than done and I’m not entirely sure that Neo would be able to as spiteful as she is.
Basically what I’m saying is Ruby VS Neo but add in some Ego Death.

Mawd, wanna ask something after I read the latest chapter of The Art of Queen's Sacrifice: since there's some degradation in it, and there was some in The Hunt as well, I remember that you had written/visualized OC wife from The Hunt as Rei. That being said, would/will Rei be comfortable on the receiving end of some degradation in bed with Kurama too, in the future? Is/was she familiar with degradation/praise kink from prior relationships? Just some thoughts, I'm curious to know what you think 👀👀 Also thank you for the good food with the Art of Queen's Sacrifice, I'm not even a Doffy degenerate but that was sooooo good.
That is a gooooood question...gonna use proper grammar for this one, boys.
We're on the cusp of discovering more of Rei's history in The Sight Unseen that will help contextualize my answer here, but Rei is comfortable with degradation only once the terms of it have been mutually negotiated and agreed upon. She has hard limits about things her partners can or cannot say to/about her in a sexual context, and she likely would not be open to that kind of play with a partner she doesn't trust. She has absolutely been burned by past partners who have crossed the line and truly hurt her with words she did not approve (so yes, she has experience with this kink, but some of her experiences were absolutely horrible). Thus, this kink is one she will only indulge in with someone she truly trusts to safeguard her emotional wellbeing.
The couple in The Hunt (which in my headcanon is a version (perhaps a slightly AU one) of Kurama and Rei) are depicted as having been married for a while. They share great trust, have negotiated sexual boundaries, and know each other well enough to mind those limits with barely a thought. Thus, most of the degrading language in The Hunt falls into the kind of things Rei would be comfortable with. And I think that tells us she could repeat that kind of play with Kurama in The Sight Unseen under the right conditions and once trust has been built sufficiently.
What wouldn't Rei be comfortable with? An obvious one is her hair. She would not be open to ANY degrading language about her appearance, specifically as it relates to her alopecia. That's her biggest source of insecurity, and partners she trust know full well how off-limits any meanspirited remarks about it are to her. Anything that pricks at those insecurities or makes her feel like she's about to be abandoned would not appeal to her; degrading language the lets her know she's pleasing her partner, or that her behavior is bringing them pleasure, is ideal. (There are some examples of this in The Hunt that I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to post on Tumblr, haha!)
And on that note, praise? Oh baby, I think Rei absolutely has a bit of a praise kink; she's suffered a lot of rejection throughout her life, and feeling desired/desirable appeals to her greatly. Praising language definitely appeals to that part of her needs. I also think she enjoys praising people in bed (she's a switch at heart, and she enjoys service topping when occasion calls), so it goes both ways with her.
Rei and Kurama are still building trust in The Sight Unseen, though, so I don't think they're yet at the point where they can indulge in degrading language with complete emotional safety/assurance. They'll need to start with praise and build a rapport before swapping over. But watching that character growth will be a lot of fun, I'm sure!
Thanks so much for the ask, anon, and thank you for reading The Art of Queen Sacrifice! I'm honored you gave it a chance despite Doffy not being on your Boink Bingo Card™, and I hope you enjoy the final chapter (as well as the next chapters of The Sight Unseen)!

Previously unseen photo of John Deacon in 1986 (shooting A Kind of Magic) taken by Peter "Ratty" Hince, from his photo exhibition currently in Turin.
Sadly I couldn't take better photos, it was in a rather difficult position and there's no catalog of the exhibition to make proper scans. Part of the 2nd photo is blurred because there was the reflection of a person's face.
I fell in love with this photo, you can say many things about Ratty but he is indeed a talented photographer and I've always admired his understanding and respect of John, which I think is visible in this exact shot. There's something pensive and silent in it that truly struck me.
If you want to repost or share please acknowledge Peter Hince as the photographer.

So I wondered for a little while pre-S4 if Ezran’s consistent “hide and seek” game playing / possible truth telling or childhood motif would come back in a significant way going forward. This is because outside of this, basically every reference to a game goes back to the Key of Aaravos (S1 / S2) with one mention to Aaravos (2x08) prior to S4, which then makes it overt. So, I thought, why not re-examine Ezran’s possible place in the game?
There’s the obvious more overt layer of the hide and seek Ezran being the Truth Teller, as mentioned, in terms of him discovering lost or unknown pieces of information, or revealing them, consistently. He’s the one who finds the egg and explores the tunnels under the castle, solving the puzzle (which ended up being an intentional piece of foreshadowing for Kpp’Ar like five years down the line). He reveals that he has the ability to talk to animals, sees through the spider-y moon illusions, etc. It’s one of his most prominent plot beats in S1 and we see inklings of it return in S4 as he is primarily responsible (presumably) for Callum’s secret birthday party, and indeed the puzzle / seeking / finding mentioned primarily by him to Zubeia. He’s the one who wants to tell Amaya the truth in 1x04. He’s the one who finds the way to opening up Rex Igneous’ heart, and the one who reveals Avizandum’s death. He’s the one who finds and reveals the Truth, just like his ancestor before him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ Side note: if you are interested in this as a concept / want a bigger & broader elaboration, I’d recommend my meta detailing Ezran as the series’ Witness / Thematic Embodiment of Justice here. ]
It’s for this reason I think he’ll play a very key role in helping to locate the prison itself, with Callum possibly bringing other information into the fold (like how the prison was constructed, perhaps). It also makes sense to split the role of the Orphan Queen, so to speak, between the brothers. Ezran carries the blood line, but Callum is of her royal line as well, story wise. Ezran has the truth; Callum has the cube and whatever it holds.
That said: I am definitely giggling and kicking my feet that S4 was and presumably S5 is going to be to be the world’s biggest game of hide and seek with the highest stakes possible.

Have u seen the clips of Bertie in the documentary called The Queen Unseen? They are so funny! It really shows the fun side of him 🥹
Thanks for your message! Yesss, such a wonderful documentary - there are loads of beautiful and tender clips with Bertie, and of course with the whole family! The music is perfect, and to hear the late Queen narrating over the images is really emotional, too.
Some of the gifs on my blog have come from that documentary! I can’t resist making them when there are so many cute moments 🥹
