i fear we must talk about how jensen ackles chose to play dean winchester again in "tracker." spoilers for anyone who cares about tracker?

he literally plays the older brother of a trio of siblings whose father was a paranoid homesteader who dragged his entire family into the woods and taught them how to shoot guns and skin animals and track people. he was a neglectful and incidentally abusive father who the oldest son (played by jensen ackles) is accused of killing (perhaps to protect his younger siblings perhaps to free himself of a paranoid mission-driven man) during an "accident" when the father falls off a cliff.

(it is later revealed that another person might have killed their father, related directly to their mother and perhaps making a deal with said mother...literally come ON.)

and then afterwards dedicated his life to a militaristic secrecy and nomadism in his chevy impala and a loaded relationship with his siblings (particularly his younger brother, the middle sibling) and an intense desire to "have an escape plan" where he lives in domesticity as a business owner.

i would say "free this man" but i think the call is coming from inside the house.

It's dangerous to get attached to a ship before the work is even out, but I have to admit to having been into Lucanis/Neve since the reveal trailer and just swiftly growing deeply fond of the idea over time.

What I've seen of them both, especially as characters with stories in Tevinter Nights, I feel like they'd be cute! A cynical mage private detective and a tormented mage killer assassin is just so fun. And I think their temperaments and all the rest would work well together. Yeah yeah, I should be more cautious because the game isn't even out, but like... them as a concept so far is fun and cute.

Yamato Rei from The Sight Unseen

i made some little picrew things of Rei from The Sight Unseen...i had to look through like 4 dozen picrews until i found one that came CLOSE to capturing her and it's still not perfect but the eyeball background worked really well and it makes me happy <3

Story Summary:

Turns out half her customers are demons and her lying ass has been predicting the future with uncanny accuracy for years. Anyone watching Sight Unseen?

Is anyone watching Sight Unseen? It has some great subtext potential.

Tess (Dolly Lewis) is a cop who has to leave her job when she loses her vision, but can't resist trying to solve her last case with the help of Sunny (Agam Darshi), a New York based shut-in that she is paired with as her eyes by an assistance app.

Sunny lives in a large, airy apartment and is usually eating, drinking or sorting her closet out while Tess illegally enters shady premsies to try and solve her crime. Apparently it's Sunny-er in NYC than it is in Toronto - some visual punning going on here.

Tess does give a slight Emily Prentiss vibe and she's got that woman alone, no talking about feelings vibe that we expect from TV cops.

You can see the possibilities in this - there's the whole odd couple, need to work together thing. Sunny is present for all sorts of personal and difficult moments for Tess, meanwhile Sunny's agoraphobia obviously stems from past violence that Tess doesn't yet know about. And they will have to save each other. Episode two and they're already sharing sad backstory.

Sexuality-wise Tess has a male ex-work partner hanging around and we see her have a one night stand with a guy in the first episode. Sunny has an estranged husband, seemingly because of her agoraphobia. I can work with both these for subtext, which is just as well because three episodes in I don't think we are going to get anything intentionally queer from this show.

I know one of the writers has used her struggles with vision loss to inform the story. I'm presuming the actor playing the main character can see, but Mia, a assistance worker tasked with helping a reluctant Tess adjust to her new disability, is played by Alice Christina-Corrigan who is visually impaired.

Someone else watch this and tell me what you think!

I've seen this refrain go around tumblr a lot: "Capitalism has got people treating artists and entertainers as though they should hop on their bicycles like a chained bear, the moment the audience cracks its whip." "Artists do not owe an audience anything." This is true and fair. Treating artists like art-producing machines and demanding they crank out art at a schedule amenable to you, only containing content or themes that you want, is unfair and unreasonable and dehumanizing.

However, capitalism has also got creators treating their (potential) audience like they are obligated to buy their thing as soon as or even before it comes out. In this same reblog chain, the bloggers are shaming people for not buying books at a rate that the authors would prefer. They frame it as a moral imperative to buy books before the series is finished, because the author requires it. I have also seen this regarding pre-orders: exhortations to pre-order books, especially debuts, or else you are ruining an author's career and don't care about marginalized artists. Framing not doing so as "refusing" to, as if you are required to and spitefully denying your obligation. That's also not a fair or reasonable way to treat people.

Authors are not beholden to their audience, but neither are they guaranteed one. Buying books is not the pinnacle of activism, and there is no moral failing to not purchasing a given thing.

Anyway as ever the problem is the death of mass market paperbacks, publishers demanding authors be their own marketers, and capitalism. Not other randos with a limited entertainment budget and their own reading preferences.
