This episode was good but still hard to watch. One because Teresa was acting not like herself but also because the side couple got a baby before the main couple and it really rubbed me the wrong way but I'm just glad Jeresa in the end is happy and together. I feel like the baby convo could have maybe happened with just Kelly Anne and Teresa to sorta reinforce what ever sort of friendship they have left. Pote is always the one advising and saying what Teresa should and shouldn't do with her relationships while his carelessness led to an unplanned pregnancy with a former traitor...
>>>>Don't mind KOTE but I came and stayed for JERESA

NGNL continues to be quite cute but 8 eps in I am getting bored - basically it’s reminding me why I don’t tend to do romcom dramas.
All the exceptions I can think of descend into melo/angst at some point - think My Girl, DGCH, Last Scandal, FTLY, City Hall or Secretary Kim among others. When I think of My Girl, what comes to mind is Lee Dong Wook weeping on his knees, begging to be allowed to keep Yu Ran; when I think of DGCH, I think of FL having to break ML’s heart to protect him from jail, when I think of Last Scandal, I think of ML’s desperation to keep FL safe, when I think of FTLY I think of Jang Hyuk recording that message believing he’s dying, the tough cynical ML of City Hall begging to save FL, and of course Sec Kim has that child abuse storyline. Even HCCC has a ML who was actively suicidal at one point.
Basically - I am just not romcom person at all. It’s a genre x viewer mismatch. The only romcoms I love are at best a romcom x melo hybrids. I like funny novels a la PG Wodehouse but in a show format it’s no go. It has to have angst and stakes for me to get into it.
(An example from China is Joy of Life - in my Top 5 shows from anywhere and incredibly funny. But it’s also incredibly dark and heartbreaking and the scenes I think of when I think of all my favorites are the intense tragic ones like Fan Xian after TZJ’s death or Fan Xian’s conversation with the elderly poet or watching the censor be flogged to death as a lesson to him or Fan Xian confessing to Wan’er he’s responsible for the death of her brother or telling his sister he’s terrified of the emperor father or all the times he’s incandescently angry over injustice. The funny is great and very clever but it’s not why I love it.)
I think for me the issue with romcoms as a genre (I mean pure romcoms not the hybrids I do like) is the issue of stakes. By definition, romcom has close to no stakes - those are safe fluffy worlds and the biggest issue is whether X and Y will end up together (and X and Y are not usually so messed up that not getting the other would break them permanently like MLs of something like Flower of Evil, City Hunter or My Beautiful Bride.) When the biggest issue is whether these two decently adjusted people will hook up or they won’t and eventually end up with someone else fairly compatible, it’s hard for me to get invested. There are basically no stakes.
And I need stakes.
About the only exception to the stakes requirement is if something is an intense character study so regardless of stakes I am fascinated watching the deconstruction of this particular human (think old school jdramas, Worlds Within or really anything by NHK.) But by romcoms are by their very nature not intense character studies.
They are the very definition of “it’s not you it’s me” in terms of genre.

when a drama says that it’s going to be a romcom, I expect a proper romcom like “business proposal” ok 😭

Found this on Twitter(X) while scrolling and it couldn't be more perfect. This perfectly describes what they mean to each other and their love for each other. they are miracles of each other life, one can not live without the other.

Might get into Queen of Tears but I doubt it'll make me feel like kdramas are "soo back" - they aren't (no shade to QoT I'm speaking generally) Honestly previous korean dramas used to be a ride like hello??? we got penthouse, mouse, flower of evil, alchemy of souls and other masterpieces. Them dramas of today WILL NEVER sit at the same table i fear!

The way my emotions welled up when I heard Kim Soo Hyun's vocals during that BaekHong final scene!! It really is one of the best. The title being "Way Home" encapsulates their love and I'm in love with it.

Eight years already? They sure do bring back a lot of memories🥹😭😭.
You may forget the specific details of the plot, but you remember the emotions it stirred within you and how it made you feel. You remember the giddiness, those warm emotions piling up inside you, the feeling of being whisked away to their world, leaving all your daily worries of the real life behind- A sense of escape.
I even remember the season I used to watch DOTS in. It used to be my summer break. I'd watch it at the end of the day, (yearning to experience those moments myself someday).

nearest I’ve come to crying today is when I saw the Twinkling Watermelon soundtrack vinyl in the store and HELD IT IN MY HANDS… then turned it over and saw that it cost $58 😮‍💨
