Thinking about BJ and Peg exchanging dirty letters about what they'd do with Hawkeye if they had the chance, both so lonely and hungry for one another and finding another sense of connection in invoking this gorgeous man with a voice that's sexy as hell who is now known personally by both of them. They haven't talked about opening up their marriage. The fantasy just happens.
BJ brings up the idea of Hawkeye coming back with him to California to meet Peg and Erin and stay overnight before Hawk takes a flight to Maine the next day. Peg teases BJ about how Hawkeye would have a hell of a noise complaint the next morning, with what BJ and Peg would be up to in the room right next door to his. BJ jokes back about how Hawkeye is such a pervert, he'd probably be enjoying himself on the other side of the wall, so just to be neighborly, maybe they shouldn't try to be too quiet.
Then Peg begins to describe how she'd feel, knowing he could hear them, how she'd tilt her head just so in order to let Hawk hear her moans best. She'd beg for everything she wanted. She'd want to show off how well her husband takes care of her. BJ has to legitimately stop reading halfway through this letter because Hawkeye is sitting right there and now his heart is racing. He replies that if Peg is going to put on a show like that, a guy like Hawk might not be able to resist. He might come peep on them at the door as he got himself off. Peg suggests in return that perhaps they'd catch him. She asks what they'd do with him. BJ feels like he's hurtling himself off a cliff when he watches the jeep with that next mail bag drive away, containing his brief and anxious reply that Hawkeye might come in, that Peg should be careful how close she is to him because that lech (fond) wouldn't be able to stop himself from reaching to feel how soft her skin is.
From that point on, they begin touching themselves after writing and reading every letter, weaving this long-distance fantasy once a month or so that they revisit and develop until they reach the fantasy's climax and both of them have immersed themselves in it for so long that they feel as though they have lived it.
When the three of them are first together in person after the war, when BJ and Peg are gearing up to ask if he wants to come share their bed, it's difficult for them to remember that Hawkeye didn't live those moments too. That he isn't as familiar with their bodies as they are with his, so to speak. They try not to rush him, but it's almost impossible to resist touching him or stealing kisses from him back to back out of the blue. But he's so very worth the wait.
#thank you to erfz for seeing this already#i felt emotional and compelled to share with the class#punnihawk#headcanons#my writing

BJ saying "our Hawkeye" in letters to his wife, I immediately understand why there's so much polyshipping for these three.
#mash#hunnihawk#i know that's bj/hawkeye but idc it's a good polyship name#apparently their actual ship name is#punnihawk

So you're trying to tell me that his name is BJ and his wife's name is Peg, and they're not bisexual swingers?

To elaborate on why I decided to ship IBM beejawk: I was thinking about how different the characters would be with the change in setting and profession, especially hawkeye, and came to the conclusion that a hawkeye who works a 9-to-5 without dealing with life and death issues constantly would be more likely to keep his work and personal life separate, I think he wouldn't flirt so much in the workplace (but would still be the funny guy of the office) because he has his life outside of it. And since BJ doesn't work there but is in the gay picnic I just decided to ship them here. (I wish I shipped beejhawk bc I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of the fandom, but if someone has actual ideas on how to make them work in this verse I will read it!!)
Didn't include all this thought process in the original confession because it's funnier with no context
I'm a huge Hunnihawk/Beejhawk/Punnihawk fan so I'd read anything well written with them involved. Bring on the IBM fanfics :)

i'm really curious about "playing with matches"- what is it about??
Not sebinis unfortunately, but it would be quite fun to rework the idea I think! It’s for a show called MASH, and I actually did publish the first chapter a few years ago. I haven’t finished it for complicated reasons, but it’s still in my WIPs and I revisit it from time to time, so there’s hope for me, I suppose.
It’s a modern au. MASH fandom people, you will know who I’m talking about. Peg decides her roommate, Hawkeye, really needs to get out more, and so she makes an online dating profile for him…where she’s acting as him on the apps. That way, when the time comes, she can say she’s setting him up with a friend, fill him in on everything “he’s” already talked about, etc. It’s a horrible idea. “He” matches with BJ (naturally). There are only two tiny problems: Peg falls in love with BJ while acting as Hawkeye, and the real Hawkeye is in love with Peg. They all end up together, it’s fine.

My M*A*S*H 4x11 ( Dear Peggy ) fav moments:
This was really light and enjoyable. BJ writes a letter to Peg, in which he doesn’t fail to mention ( between-lines ) how DREAMY and WONDERFUL Hawkeye is, Mulcahy is being “examined” by “The Attila the Hun of Chaplains”, Klinger tries to get out… the usual shenanigans!
( he was talking about a dream. )
Now isn’t that what we all wanted to see at the end of the series??🥹
Did he really say that about me?🥺
He’s so fond of them😭
OUR Hawkeye
( I know he probably means “our” as in the 4077’s, but my punnihawk heart tells me BJ talks so much about him already that Peg considers him a friend as well )
THEN, Hawk read in LIFE magazine that someone beat the record of more people into a car ( 15 in a Volkswagen ), and of course:
Look how amused he is! He’s so proud!
And they’re all so happy 😭
Then Hollister ( the Attila of Chaplains ) asked what Mulcahy thought about it, and he was the first one in there, so there’s that.
They all went to church to support him 😇 and made sure to congratulate him after the service in front of his superior.
I think this episode really shows how much the 4077 cares about their own. Hawk trying his hardest to boost morale. Beej sharing Peg’s cake. Margaret joining in on the fun. Colonel Potter allowing everything because he knew they needed it. And all of them being there for Mulcahy despite the fact they’re not “regulars”.
Really sweet overall :)

I gotta know more about the 90s ski trip au please n thank you 💛💜
Of course!!!
So 90s ski trip AU is kind of what it sounds like on the tin: BJ and Peg are finally taking a vacation (busy working professionals in their thirties, it doesn't happen very often) over Christmas at a ski resort in Maine.
While they're there, they happen to bump into (well, get stuck on a ski lift with) Hawkeye Pierce, who's also there on vacation.
And well... they fall in love 😈
Obligatory snippet for ya, Max dear 💜💛
She’s not wearing a nametag, but her hands are folded on the table in front of her. “Hi,” she says, and Hawkeye can’t breathe. As if there could be any substitute, when I’ve got the real thing right here. “Hey. You here for the speed dating?” “You bet. Call me Peg.” “Alright… I’m Hawkeye.” Her eyes are twinkling. “I just want you to know that I like pina coladas, and long walks on the beach. Oh, and science-fiction and melted ice cream.” “Do you like Chinese food?” She grins. “Uh huh.” “Like to walk in the rain?” “Yep.” “Let’s run away together.” He says, delighting in her laughter. “Peg, what the hell are you doing here? Where’s BJ?” “Waiting by the bar. We were uh… taking a walk after dinner, walked past, and saw you in here. You wanna get out of here?” Hawkeye glances back towards Margaret, who is currently chatting with Steve, and then grins at Peg, who tucks a strand of hair behind her ears. “Sure.” “Not dragging you away from anyone?” “Well, let’s just say I won’t be booking a church anytime soon.”
#i know people can be kinda iffy on aus but i was having a lot of fun with this one#i'm sad it sort of fell off. i should finish it...#m*a*s*h#punnihawk#wip ask game

Ahh, I don't think I've ever prompted you for anything, which is a crime!! A long long time ago you wrote punnihawk, and idk if it's still your bag, so if it's not or if you're not taking prompts anymore, feel free to ignore this :) But if it is and you are, I'd love to see 'cuddles to trap the other' with them.
HELLO! yes! feels like a million years ago, my first mash fic :')
19. cuddles to trap the other
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re a sensational dancer?” Hawkeye said.
Peg was leaning on him a little, the side of her face pressed just below the collar of his crew neck. She was already dressed for going out, apart from her feet, which were without their customary heels. He’d adjusted his posture to account for the height disparity: shoulders hunched, knees slightly bent, palms at her shoulder and waist.
Dancing with Beej required different adjustments. Hawk had to be more cautious with his feet. BJ was prone to getting distracted and treading on them. It was easier to maintain eye contact, though, since they were nearly the same height. And when Beej was feeling confident, sometimes he led.
“I think you told me, the other day. Though maybe you said terrific, not sensational,” Peg said.
He’d begged her for a dance. Peg and Beej were going to one of the hospital’s frequent fundraising galas. It was an excuse to dress up, get a little tipsy, and talk to people—all things Hawkeye enjoyed, when he was in the right mood.
Unfortunately he’d just gotten off a double shift, after an extraordinarily hectic week, and was more or less dead on his feet. He was exhausted in that slap happy, clingy, sore to be missing out way. Peg took pity on him.
Hawkeye could smell her perfume: light, floral, her special occasion scent, in the little blue bottle on her dresser. He and Beej had picked it out together.
Visits to the perfume counter always gave Beej headaches. He’d persevere—eyes closed, bridge of his nose pinched, hint of a smile on his lips—while Hawk held up testers.
“You know, we’re all going to smell like this,” Hawkeye had said, fingers grazing the inside of BJ’s wrist.
Their shoulders brushed. It was raining outside. Inside, it smelled like damp hair, like Peg’s lavender shampoo, in the big bottle, to share.
BJ opened his eyes. “Then we ought to pick something that complements your aftershave,” he said.
“You move like a dream,” Hawkeye said, shifting his weight, leaning into her as much as she was leaning into him.
Peg was stronger than she looked. She’d held him upright a time or two.
She laughed. Hawkeye loved her laugh. When she really got going, she got the hiccups. The first time it had happened, Hawk had been bowled over with affection. They’d been out, all three of them, finishing their drinks outside a café. He and Beej had a spectacular comedy routine going. He couldn’t remember the jokes now. He’d been a little drunk, maybe, and in good company, which made everything funny.
When she laughed, some of her white wine came out her nose. Hawk passed her his handkerchief. Beej rubbed her back, at the space between her shoulder blades. He met Hawkeye’s eyes, across the cluttered table. He leaned back in his seat and crossed his long legs.
“Don’t get big heads,” Peg said, after drinking deeply from her water glass, and then Hawk’s (leaving lipstick on the rim).
The record they had on lapsed into staticky silence and Peg drew back.
“A good dream, I hope,” she said, smoothing the wrinkles from her dress.
BJ came into the room, holding up two ties. “I can’t decide,” he said. He frowned at Hawk. “You’re supposed to be in bed.”
“The purple one,” Hawkeye said, as Peg ushered him toward the mattress.
“Erin’s sleeping over at Angie’s. I gave her the number at the club just in case, so no need to listen for the phone. Just get some sleep,” Peg said.
She pulled back the covers and kissed his forehead.
“Don’t step on her feet, Beej,” Hawkeye said.
BJ was flipping up his collar and tying his purple tie. He looked nice in his well tailored suit, with the cufflinks Hawk had bought him for his birthday.
He raised his eyebrows. “I’ll try my absolute hardest,” he said.
Peg brushed some lint off his lapel.
“I know you will. We should call the cab. I hate showing up late to these things,” she said.
Hawkeye watched the two of them, lingering by the door. They’d wanted to skip the gala and stay in, with him, but he’d talked them into going. It seemed an awful shame to keep the Hunnicutts from a party.
“We’ll duck out early, Hawk,” BJ said.
Hawkeye opened his arms wide.
“Kiss me goodbye, at least,” he said.
They didn’t need to be asked twice. They lay down on either side of him and Hawk was briefly distracted by the mingling of their warmth and scents and limbs. BJ kissed him and then Peg kissed him (gentler, to avoid smudging her lipstick).
“On second thought, I can get dressed and come with you,” Hawkeye said, eyes half-lidded. “I’m not as tired as I seem. I promise.”
BJ pressed a kiss to his hair. “Nice try,” he said.
Hawkeye rolled onto his side and tucked his face to Beej’s chest, breathing deeply. He was right. Beej smelled like Peg’s perfume.
Her hands were at Hawk’s waist. She tucked her chin over his shoulder.
“Well, I’ve trapped you here now,” Hawkeye said.
“Or we’ve trapped you, darling,” Peg said, in that dreamy, soothing tone she used when she read Erin bedtime stories.
“We’ll be home before you know it,” BJ said.

BJ x Hawkeye x Peg for the Ship Bingo
Punnihawk is end game, ultimate OTP. I die on this hill. This happens post war and it's a hot mess and I love it.
Ok. So we know that canonically B.J. feels an overwhelming sense of guilt when he does cheat or feels tempted to cheat. That said, he also canonically talks about other people's infidelities in a much more forgiving light. In the episode Of Moose and Men, he talks about cheating as a mistake that can happen to anyone, and that Zale should be more forgiving towards his wife.
I think B.J. has very deep and complex feelings towards Hawkeye, but probably wouldn't act upon them unless Peg was ok with it. Hawkeye is special to him, in the same sort of way that Peg is.
Hawkeye and Peg definitely have written to each other, even before he got her to tape herself for the anniversary. They write things carefully to avoid the censors but Peg knows there's something going on. She's not jealous exactly, because Hawkeye intrigues her as well.
I read this fantastic fanfiction (sadly has gone unfinished) called Out of Sight by peaceloveandjocularity on AO3. It feels so real, just like how I imagine the dynamic might work.
They all love eachother, they all need eachother, and (most importantly) they all want the best for Erin.
It's not an easy dynamic. There is insecurity, shame, fear, and 1950s society breathing down everyone's neck so they can't exactly be open about it.
There's just something so perfect about it. Wholesome, loving, and still a bit unhinged.
