Trauma is having to learn to hide your panic attacks because you would get punished for them as a child, so now people don't believe you when you tell them you're having one of the worst anxiety attacks you've ever had, because you don't show any signs of it :(

Whumptober Day 20: Dehumanization, master and servant

eeehehehehee i've been waiting to write this one :D

"Whumpee, I'd like to tell you a story."

"Yes?"

"'Yes?'"

"Yes, master? Sorry."

"Don't apologize, correct your mistake and move on."

"Okay, master."

"Better.

Now, there once was a master and a servant, just like you and I. The servant was well trained, and did what their master told them. But something was wrong.

On the outside, the servant was perfect. However, they let their thoughts get in the way. One day, they were distracted and made a mistake. It was small, and pretty harmless, but the master knew something was off. Plus, one careless mistake now could lead to a much worse one down the road. So, they gave the servant a punishment.

The master thought it was over. The servant went about their duties, trying their best to do as they were told, but their thoughts got louder. They didn't make another mistake, but they couldn't keep their mouth shut.

One afternoon, the master noticed the servant was acting very differently than normal. They had a far away look in their eyes, and their movements were slow and methodical. The master asked them what was wrong, and they answered.

They said, 'I want to go home.'

Now, of course that's problematic because they had no home to go to. They belonged there, serving their master; their only purpose was to obey. Do you understand, Whumpee?"

"Yes, master."

"Good. Now, the master had to think of another punishment, one that would stop their incorrect thought process for good. So, the master cut off the servant's feet.

The servant could not go to their imaginary home, and were reduced to kneeling constantly and moving around on their knees, a constant reminder that they were always below their master.

To a master, a servant is dirt. With some effort, it can grow something amazing, but it could also just be a nuisance under a master's foot, a thing to be trampled on and forgotten.

That servant learned their lesson, and was a better servant because of it. I hope you will not have to go through what they did to understand the lesson. Right now, you are fertile soil. You could make me something I can be proud of, right, Whumpee?"

"Yes, master.

I have a question."

"Yes?"

"Was this a true story?"

"Yes, I'm afraid it was. It happened a few years ago, with a servant I once had, long before you arrived."

"What happened to-"

"Don't go there. It doesn't concern you, does it?"

"No, master, I guess not."

"That's right.

I know you won't let me down, Whumpee.

That's all I have for you right now, but ponder about it."

(That night (and most nights after that), Whumpee lying in bed, whispering to themself)

i accidentally napped and had a dream (nightmare?) where a new update for stardew valley released where everything was the same except on a random day in year 3 Evelyn would just straight up die. There was a whole cutscene that started in her house where she collapsed, and then transitioned over to the hospital where Harvey gave George and Alex the worst news of their lives. However, they got to speak to her where she said something along the lines of "Yoba will protect me, and I am sure he will let me watch over you."

Alex and George would not talk to the player for more than a few words for a full season after this event. George would spend most of his time in the bedroom, so if you had less than 2 hearts with him, you could barely ever speak to him.

And Alex... oh my god, poor Alex. If you were married to him during this event, he just stayed in bed all day. Otherwise, if single, he would just stand on the beach most of the time, staring off into the ocean. If you tried to interact with him, it would just say "Alex is grieving... Better leave him be."

There was also other NPC dialogue like mayor Lewis saying "I haven't seen the community in this state of mourning since your grandfather passed..."

there was also a glitch where you could make Evelyn live forever and there were entire guides for the "immortal Evelyn glitch" that got patched out in the next update. If you tried to perform the glitch after the patch, mr. Qi would tell you that "hey, it happens to all of us. We can't prevent it, and neither can you, no matter how hard you try."

I didn't realize your reasons and I didn't know your plans, until I became the same age you were back then and it horrifies me. I wish you had done more so I could prove the world I am right, and I wish you had done nothing to me at all. Isn't it weird how it works?

I’ll never forget when I was arguing with a person in favor of total prison abolition and I asked them “what about violent offenders?” And they said “Well, in a world where prisons have been abolished, we’ll have leveled the playing field and everyone will have their basic needs met, and crime won’t be as much of an issue.” And then I was like “okay. But…no. Because rich people also rape and murder, so it isn’t just a poor person thing. So what will we do about that?” And I don’t think they answered me after that. I’m ashamed to say I continued to think that the problem was that I simply didn’t understand prison abolitionists enough and that their point was right in front of me, and it would click once I finally let myself understand it. It took me a long time to realize that if something is going to make sense, it needs to make sense. If you want to turn theory into Praxis (I’m using that word right don’t correct me I’ll vomit) everyone needs to be on board, which mean it all needs to click and it needs to click fast and fucking clear. You need to turn a complex idea into something both digestible and flexible enough to be expanded upon. Every time I ask a prison abolitionist what they actually intend to do about violent crime, I get directed to a summer reading list and a BreadTuber. It’s like a sleight-of-hand trick. Where’s the answer to my question. There it is. No wait, there it is. It’s under this cup. No it isn’t. “There’s theory that can explain this better than I can.” As if most theory isn’t just a collection of essays meant to be absorbed and discussed by academics, not the average skeptic. “Read this book.” And the book won’t even answer the question. The book tells you to go ask someone else. “Oh, watch this so-and-so, she totally explains it better than me.” Why can’t you explain it at all? Why did you even bring it up if you were going to point me to someone else to give me the basics that you should probably already know? Maybe I’m just one of those crazy people who thinks that some people need to be kept away from the public for everyone’s good. Maybe that just makes me insane. Maybe not believing that pervasive systemic misogyny could be solved with a UBI and a prayer circle makes me a bad guy. But it’s not like women’s safety is a priority anyway. It’s not like there is an objective claim to be made that re-releasing violent offenders or simply not locking them up is deadly.

The body of a six-year-old Palestinian girl, missing for 12 days after an Israeli tank targeted their family car in Gaza, has been found along with the bodies of two medics dispatched to look for them.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the family of the girl, Hind Rajab, confirmed on Saturday that all seven people inside the car were killed, with the Palestinian relief organisation saying it lost crew members Yusuf Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun in the Israeli attack on civilians in Gaza City.

Family members found Hind’s body along with those of her uncle and aunt and their three children near a roundabout in the city’s Tal al-Hawa suburb, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

Another of Hind’s uncles, Sameeh Hamadeh, said the car was peppered with bullet holes.

“The occupation deliberately targeted the ambulance upon its arrival at the scene, where it was found just metres away from the vehicle containing the trapped child Hind,” said the PRCS statement.

“Despite prior coordination to allow the ambulance to reach the location to rescue the child, Hind, the occupation deliberately targeted the Palestine Red Crescent ambulance crew.”

Whumptober Day 23: Begging, "take me instead," forced to watch

Whumpee was forced to watch as Whumper dragged Caretaker by the collar of her shirt into the middle of the room.

"So, you think you can just waltz in here and take what's mine, do you?" Whumper was furious. They started kicking Caretaker in the side, stomping on her ribs and spitting at her face.

Whumpee didn't have many options. She couldn't bear to sit back and watch Caretaker get beaten after trying to set her free. Besides, Whumpee was used to pain, used to Whumper's insults and fury in a way Caretaker was not. It had to be her.

"Whumper, p-please," Whumpee begged. Whumper stopped, all attention on Whumpee. "Don't hurt her, she d-doesn't deserve it, it was me who wanted to run away, she was only trying to help."

"And what would you have me do?" Whumper sneered. "Not punish the person who broke in and tried to take you away? Sure, you tried to leave, you'll get your punishment, but she deserves one too, don't you think?"

Whumpee looked at Caretaker, curled up on the floor, fear in her eyes as she waited for Whumper's next move. "I-I'd rather it be me. I'll take her punishment too. Just please, please don't hurt her any more."

"Very well."

Whumper dragged Caretaker to the wall. They untied Whumpee and used the ropes to tie Caretaker up. They walked back to the center of the room, waiting for Whumpee to follow. She didn't need to be told what to do.

Caretaker was forced to watch as Whumpee followed Whumper to the middle of the room and knelt before them.

Whumpee's voice was small and quiet, a direct contrast to what it was before she had been brought here. She used to be so defiant, standing up to any authority who dare challenged her will. Now, she was reduced to this, and Caretaker didn't want to imagine what Whumper had done to her to make her this way.

"Master, I accept this punishment."

'Master?' When did she start calling them 'master?'

"Good. Since you'll be receiving a double punishment, let me get a tool that'll deal it well." They walked over to a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire and picked it up, carrying it over to Whumpee.

Even though Whumpee was trying to her best to defuse the situation, Caretaker could tell that Whumper was dying to release his anger on somebody. She could only hope that Whumpee's obedience would save her from the harshest blows, but this looked a lot worse than a few kicks.

Both Whumpee and Caretaker cried out as the bat came down.

Of all the theories as to how Carmilla and her daughters found eachother in Hell (adoption, reuniting after they died, one or all three being Hellborn, ect;), I think my personal favorite is the one where Carmilla was either pregnant when she died or later gave birth to a child she miscarried when she was alive.

But whether or not that’s true, one of my favorite crack theories/headcanons about Carmilla being pregnant in Hell is how absolutely weird the other Overlords would be about it- because let’s be real, they would absolutely be weird about it. Maybe supportive and weird, but weird.

Carmilla, still stubbornly walking around in her ridiculously sharp shoes: I’M FINE.

Rosie, crouched at her side with a glass of something red and questionable: I’m telling you, honey, just try this. It’ll cure that morning sickness in a jiffy.

Carmilla, curled up on her bathroom floor: …it disturbs me that I’m nauseous enough to actually be considering this.

Zestial comes to her rescue and shoos Rosie out to go make her some (GINGER) tea before Carmilla can do something she’ll regret.

Alastor, gazing suspiciously: Why on earth is your abdomen moving like that? Is something trying to break out?

Carmilla, too exhausted to deal with this: That movement is my baby kicking, Alastor.

Alastor: Pardon? You mean to tell me that one can see that on the outside? Eugh.

Carmilla, glaring at him: You are so lucky you’re not worth getting up for.

- Rosie insists on throwing her a baby shower. Vox and Alastor get kicked out for fighting and are forced to put together the IKEA furniture for the nursery as punishment.

- I seriously doubt this lot can build and work an ultrasound machine, so something like this is likely.

Carmilla, slowly coming to after giving birth: Mmmh…?

Rosie, happily bouncing one baby in her arms: Oh good, she’s up! Congratulations, sweetie. You have two beautiful daughters 🥰

Carmilla: ….

Zestial, who’s gently cradling the other: Carmilla…? Is something the matter?

Carmilla: …there’s really two of them. I thought I was hallucinating.

BONUS:

Fun fact- some scientists say cats have sensitive enough hearing that they can hear babies’ heartbeats within their mother’s bodies.
