I’ll never forget when I was arguing with a person in favor of total prison abolition and I asked them “what about violent offenders?” And they said “Well, in a world where prisons have been abolished, we’ll have leveled the playing field and everyone will have their basic needs met, and crime won’t be as much of an issue.” And then I was like “okay. But…no. Because rich people also rape and murder, so it isn’t just a poor person thing. So what will we do about that?” And I don’t think they answered me after that. I’m ashamed to say I continued to think that the problem was that I simply didn’t understand prison abolitionists enough and that their point was right in front of me, and it would click once I finally let myself understand it. It took me a long time to realize that if something is going to make sense, it needs to make sense. If you want to turn theory into Praxis (I’m using that word right don’t correct me I’ll vomit) everyone needs to be on board, which mean it all needs to click and it needs to click fast and fucking clear. You need to turn a complex idea into something both digestible and flexible enough to be expanded upon. Every time I ask a prison abolitionist what they actually intend to do about violent crime, I get directed to a summer reading list and a BreadTuber. It’s like a sleight-of-hand trick. Where’s the answer to my question. There it is. No wait, there it is. It’s under this cup. No it isn’t. “There’s theory that can explain this better than I can.” As if most theory isn’t just a collection of essays meant to be absorbed and discussed by academics, not the average skeptic. “Read this book.” And the book won’t even answer the question. The book tells you to go ask someone else. “Oh, watch this so-and-so, she totally explains it better than me.” Why can’t you explain it at all? Why did you even bring it up if you were going to point me to someone else to give me the basics that you should probably already know? Maybe I’m just one of those crazy people who thinks that some people need to be kept away from the public for everyone’s good. Maybe that just makes me insane. Maybe not believing that pervasive systemic misogyny could be solved with a UBI and a prayer circle makes me a bad guy. But it’s not like women’s safety is a priority anyway. It’s not like there is an objective claim to be made that re-releasing violent offenders or simply not locking them up is deadly.

#I’m sorry #there are just people out here who need punishment and to be contained and rehabilitation will not work #like I’m one of the more insane people who thinks that you can rehabilitate anyone if they want to change and learn from their behavior #ANYONE #but there are people out here who do not and will not ever want it #and those people shouldn’t get a pass because you read incomplete abolitionist theory once #and now you think that a UBI would solve everything #that’s the thing about most abolitionists that I’ve noticed #once you press them on the hard shit #they go #well there are some good books on the subject #there are some other creators #okay #and what have those other books and creators said?#Tee Noir once started off a video telling people not to ask her to defend her defense of prison abolition #they should just ‘Google it’ she said (or something like that)#now I don’t watch Tee Noir #gothra #feminism #social justice #prison abolition #criminal justice #prison reform #tw vomit

Seriously hating how much of Grian’s comment section is just “it’s been so long since the last HC episode” and “when is the next HC episode”.

I think because of how constantly popular his HC videos in particular are his viewers are less understanding about him not posting which sucks.

I get that it’s generally a joke and people aren’t serious about it, but saying that kind of thing is as bad as hate comments; repetitive, unnecessary, and discouraging.

It also just fills the comments with the same thing again and again, instead of saying something relevant and interesting to the conversation.

I don’t know if Grian actually cares, but I think this type of community should be more positive instead of down putting. He even explained that his sever tour he was planning to do ended up taking more time than he thought and that’s why this episode took a while.

There’s this phenomenon that isn’t quite queerbaiting, and therefore shouldn’t be called that in my opinion, but there isn’t a specific word for it as far as I know. Basically the phenomenon where a couple isn’t explicitly shown to be a couple on screen (usually due to corporate homophobia), but is definitely intended by the creators to be a couple.

Edit: The two phrases that have been brought up in the comments are queer-coding and Herero-baiting. I’m partial to the latter.

#the best example of this is #korrasami #from #the legend of korra #but I feel like there are lesser examples out there where the creators thought of the characters as being romantically interested #but they also had to write the storylines of giving each of them straight romances #I haven’t done much research into what ships were somewhat intentional in this way though #so I can’t give any examples other than one I assume falls into this category:#poolverine #deadclaws #from the new #deadpool & wolverine #there’s also some that are intentional from the actors of not the writers:#cherik #and #morgana pendragon #from’#bbc merlin #(I dont know which of her ships were intentional but Katie McGrath definitely played her as a lesbian

Friendly reminder to double-check if fanart has been reposted without credit/permission before reblogging it.

I know we all reblog stolen art without realising it from time to time. It's a mistake we can all make, and I'm positive I've made it before. We can't always be paying close attention to everything we reblog. But, if you can, please just... be careful.

My heart just broke a little because tumblr just recommended me a blog with a bio that essentially says "yes, I repost art, if you're not okay with that just block me and don't bother me with your stupidity". And to see that some of the stolen Stolitz fanarts, reposted on that blog without the original artists' knowledge or consent, have ~2k notes, is just... Oof.

That's love that the original artist isn't getting. The reposter, who put exactly 0 effort or love or ambition into that piece of art, is the one being rewarded with all the praise and love and attention instead.

I just. I don't like engaging in fandom drama, and actively try to avoid it. This post is definitely not intended as a callout, and I don't intend to point fingers or "cancel" anyone (I'm saying this because I know how the Internet can be sometimes 😓). This is just me saying, hey, be careful, and treat others how you'd like to be treated. And just... don't reward this kind of behaviour. Please. If you've ever had this happen to you, you know how heart-breaking it is, and if you haven't, I hope you can empathise anyway. When you put so much love and effort into something, it means so much see and know that other people like it and appreciate it. And finding out that your creation is getting all that love away from your sight, and someone else is receiving all of that love instead of you, is genuinely really fucking upsetting and demoralising.
