"Hitch-Hikes To Get Jail Term," Border Cities Star. August 26, 1933. Page 3. ---- Niagara Falls, Ont., Man Is Halted at Tunnel By U. S. Officials --- Thomas Ward, 34 years old, who hitch-hiked from Niagara Falls, Ontario, to Detroit so that he might appear for sentence, Friday was almost prevented from so doing by immigration officers at the Detroit entrance of the tunnel.
Ward, who formerly lived at 660 Brainard street, was fined $50 for violation of the prohibition laws July 22 by Federal Judge Ernest A. O'Brien. Unable to pay the fine, Ward was given until Friday to raise the money. Having been unable to do so, Ward came here from his Canadian home, only to be stopped by immigration officers.
They took him to Judge O'Brien for verification of his story. Judge O'Brien sentenced him to six months at the federal detention farm at Milan, and remanded him to immigration authorities upon release.

A Collection of HM Headcanons that have little to no effect on lore, but are entertaining for me to think about
DISCLAIMER: These are just my personal headcanons, so feel free to disagree and disregard. Also this mainly takes place in the AU where they're all actual ghosts living in Disneyland and not, like, New Orleans where they're canonically supposed to be.
Ghost Host likes to sometimes straighten and/or tighten the noose around his neck, the same way you would a necktie (gotta look professional in front of the other haunts and foolish mortals, you know?)
Hatty prefers to sleep with his head in the hatbox because he likes how the fabric lining feels. When Emily comes to visit, she holds onto the hatbox while they sleep.
Hatty's spirit is basically just his head possessing the remains of his body. His head can travel wherever/however far he wants to on its own. With that said, if Hatty's head gets too far away from his body, his body will collapse
I headcanon the Tokyo bride as being Emily (I know that's been disproven with Disney Story Beyond, but I'm ignoring it), which means that she and Hatty are maintaining their relationship whilst being long distance. Hatty sends Emily handwritten letters every day, meanwhile Emily replies with colorfully illustrated postcards.
Any time somebody asks Constance and Hatty if they were married once, they just look at each other like this
Tumblr media
They're just roomies guys (and also Constance killed him but since that actually effects the lore I'm keeping that story for another day)
Hatty likes to rotate the hatboxes he uses for his head trick every once and a while
Victor (aka the Organist) and Sally Slater are those friends who like gossiping together. I imagine they have regular meetups where they spill tea over light snacks and, well, tea
The hitchhiking ghosts like to keep souvenirs from mortals they follow home. They're stashed away in various places around the mansion
The hitchhikers also get really excited whenever they're invited to join the parades during the Halloween season. They always make sure to position themselves so that Gus has the best view from the float.

Awwww.
But yeah, the intro is not easy to remember because in the radio series / albums the theme was just a few bars of the banjo before the announcer gave the title, and then it went straight to the DUM DUM!, DUMMY DUMMY DUM part. They played more of it at the end, but again there was voiceover because credits.
Like, the first episode's credits ended with the line: "The programme was written by Douglas Adams, and produced by Simon Brett, with the assistance of Paddy Kingsland at the Radiophonic Workshop, and a small furry creature from the Crab Nebula." DUM DUM!, DUMMY DUMMY DUM etc
The final episode's credits (after the death of Douglas Adams, and not counting the 6th book) ended thus: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was an Above the Title production for BBC Radio Four, and is affectionately dedicated to its author. Now here is a public information message. The large yellow Vogon ships hanging overhead are an hallucination. Do not be alarmed. There is nothing to worry about. Just pour yourself several large drinks, and open a packet of peanuts. You are going to need them".
By the way:
The theme tune used for the radio, television, LP, and film versions is "Journey of the Sorcerer", an instrumental piece composed by Bernie Leadon and recorded by the Eagles on their 1975 album One of These Nights. Only the transmitted radio series used the original recording; a sound-alike cover by Tim Souster was used for the LP and TV series, another arrangement by Joby Talbot was used for the 2005 film, and still another arrangement, this time by Philip Pope, was recorded to be released with the CDs of the last three radio series. Apparently, Adams chose this song for its futuristic-sounding nature [that sounded "spacey" but not serious], but also for the fact that it had a banjo in it, which, as Geoffrey Perkins recalls, Adams said would give an "on the road, hitch-hiking feel" to it. [x]
Comedy writer Andy Riley arranged the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy theme for a music box

Why does this track always, always make me want to cry?
tHHGttG isn't a sad story. At no point in any of the books, TV series, or film have I ever felt sadness. Except for when its over, because... it's over.
I think I know why. I do know why. The same reason that (Farewell) Major Tom by Fr_ has the same effect.
I want OFF of this godforsaken ball of shit-encrusted muddy garbage. This prison is more than I can stand. I put so much time and effort into making life better, for myself and for others. I'm doing alright. I've got some great friends, a good relationship. Our dog and cat are terrific!
But some times I can't stop feeling like I'd give up absolutely everything to leave and never come back.
Sure, there's the fantasy of hanging out with interesting and cool aliens. Just fantasy, as far as I know. But what if there's nobody out there? Or they're a bunch of dick-wads just as shitty as humans? Or what if they're cool, but that's just why they don't want anything to do with us? Then if I somehow got out there, way, way out there, would that be cool too. I don't know. Maybe it's the pure experience of something unknown. Exploring mysteries that don't really end, they just open to more mystery, wonder.
