Don't ask me why, but this is the first thing I thought of when I saw this prompt. Disney's Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favorite movies, and when reading A Court of Thorns and Roses, I couldn't help but wonder how much inspiration SJM took from the animated classic.

Really, Lady Midnight, I can hear you say, you didn't think of the romantic ballroom scene, or the transformation scene at the end? You thought of this scene? This one, for the most romantic prompt on the list? Really??? And the answer is, yes. Yes, I did. 😅 But he isn't even in his beast form in this scene in the book--Sh sh shshshs.

i can't post my actual last written line because it would spoil the ending to my current fic, so instead i'm going to post the last thing i rewrote on the draft-i-swore-i-wasn't-going-to-touch-and-should-probably-not-be-sharing-due-to-reasons:

“This was inside of the creature,” I say. “I think it’s the same bird Catalina gutted, though I’m not sure how it could even get there.” Justicia looks away, crosses herself, then turns back to it. Like a curious child wanting to poke an animal corpse. “Christ.” “I don’t think it’s dead.” The statement hangs heavy between us. “And with any luck, I don’t think it’s attached to anyone anymore. I used to think it hibernated, maybe that’s what it does.” I fold up the remains and hide them away again. “Unless you can find a way to send it back. If there’s any point to it.”
