From Deadline.com: Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to new pop musical franchise Verona’s Romeo & Juliet, which will have a wide release on Valentine's Day, 2025.

Yep, franchise, so there's a chance we'll be seeing Rupert's Prince Escalus - and maybe even hearing him sing! - in more than one film!

Today, my tutee hit me with this banger while discussing Romeo and Juliet.

And now I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT

Like what would it look like? Martial Law? How would it affect his speech? Does he take both Montague and Capulet into custody? Does he have them killed? Does he return to the promise from his first speech that ‘your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace’

I actually think he would be terrifying. I think he would maintain his metrical solidity and it would be chilling. I think Benvolio would try to get him for clemency and be denied with absolute pentametric certainty and repeating images from that first speech. Fire, sickness, bloodied hands, men, beasts …

I feel like this is obvious but a lot of people don't mention how other than the Nurse the Montague and Capulets are symmetrical

There is obviously Lady Montague and Capulet and Lord Capulet and Montague but they also each have one child those being Romeo and Juliet respectfully as well as one Nephew whose parents aren't in the picture apparently, but you know Prince escalus the neutral party in the feud both of his nephews are divided with the family's respectfully. There is one small thing I forgot to mention, Rosaline. Where does she fall into this? Neither it's only ever mentioned that she is a Capulet but seemingly doesn't live with the Capulets as we never see her she is only mention 14 times so what's up with her? (Also no I am not watching that stupid movie on Hulu. I refuse)
